Caitlin a.k.a. Enchanted Stevie had posted a thread on That Other Board called "Just Thought I'd Share" - - - It ended up being really popular. It also helps to save a lot of space and keep things from getting really disorganized with a million different threads. I asked her if it's okay with her if I borrow the idea and start one in here and she said to go for it.
The idea is you just post any ol' random thing - news, an update about what you're doing, thoughts you've just had, ideas, wishes, hopes, dreams, w/e it's ALL good!
So here we GO! Have fun! :p
Here's one to start:
Definitely wanna enjoy some sun this Labor Day, so I'm gonna go
out in the back yard and read now.

Nice choice of song, too - I've always loved that.

That was brilliant! I love Brown Eyes, definately one of the sexiest FM songs.
I ran into an ex-friend today. On a train. One of the worst places to run into someone you don't want to talk to is on any form of public transport, because then you have an awkward journey full of inane questions and one word answers. I wanted to be listening to the Weepies album I had just put on my Ipod.
It's 2am and I'm now watching old episodes of The View on youtube and getting het-up over topics that were pertinent a year ago.

We did meet through the Ledge. We essentially haven't stopped talking for the past few months, though, so I'm sure that impression isn't random :) I was supposed to visit her while college shopping back east but since I had to cancel due to school obligations, she's coming here for Halloween instead :)

My super, super sexy English teacher gave me 20 of his poems to read over the weekend, ranging in topics from existence to sex to his dark Irish roots to fatherhood to his dad's death. I spent two hours giving him feedback but more importantly, talking to him about some of the most monumental events of his life and seeing him get emotional about it.

So today my Intro to BioTechnology class was okay. She did an overview on Chapter 1 and then we went over the Lab Safety stuff. After class my friend dropped me off at work so I could get my mom's car to get my labcoat for my BioTech and BioChem classes. Its fancy! Well as fancy as one can get with a white lab coat..lol Its not like a boxy one. Its form fitting to make you have a sillouette. The brand is "Grey's Anatomy" and its rather soft for a lab coat too. I cant wait to wear it! Oh and I also went to Target and got some Special K bars to eat on Thursday's cause I have classes from 9:30-4!!

I have atleast one FML moment a day, so this is where I will share them with my Ledgie friends.
Today, my boyfriend told me we needed to talk. Those four words together in a ny way, shape, or form almost never means something good, so I started freaking out.
BF: What's going on with you and that new guy?! You hang around him more than you hang around me. If there's anything serious going on, I want you to tell me now.
Me:
BF: ...What?
Me:
BF: -angrysadface-
Me: That's my cousin remember!?!?!?
BF: ....Oh.
Me: I guess you weren't listening all those times I was telling you about him coming to our school... wait, weren't you listening when I introduced him to you!?!!?
BF: ....:o
I then proceeded to give him one of those hugs where you leap into the person who's going to catch you's arms. (Which is quite hard because he's 6 foot something and I'm on the low end of 5, yet taller than Stevie minus platform boots.)
I know a lot of you will be thinking that he's a bad boyfriend and stuff, but he's really not. When you ramble as much as I do, it's hard to find anyone to listen to you! (Besides, my dad does this to my mom all the time!)

He's been a mentor figure for the past two years and people are widely aware of that. He's done the same thing with my writing and I don't see a problem with him asking for feedback in return . The emotional aspect of it was unexpected-- and fine. I go to a relatively small private school where this type of stuff isn't normal, but isn't shunned, either. I have two teachers who I am very close with (the other is female)-- babysit their kids, get lunch on weekends, they've come to my house for dinner-- my parents are aware of it, my classmates are aware of it and the school is mildly aware of it. Even so, I am one Dani from California who goes to a private shool and has abnormally close student-teacher relationships. If someone wants to report it, have fun trying-- I think that is outrageously nosy and ridiculous, and I will be deleting some friends if anyone else considers this a legitimate concern. :D
I consider myself so, so lucky to be able to have these relationships. Sorry it weirds you out.

Maybe I just don't see it as such a big deal because I've always had these type of relationships with my teachers....

I was accepted into the college I've always wanted to attend the day I took my last AP test in May. I had been placed on the 'wait-list' in March and they finally called me and told me that I had been accepted!!.. But it was for Spring semester. I cried and cried that whole day because I felt like a loser for only getting accepted for Spring semester. Anyway I've been playing it off for months to family and friends that I'm so happy to have this semester off and I'm getting to save up money for college and I'm so happy, etc., but I still feel like a loser who will never leave home. I have a fear that it'll all be taken away from me any day now. Ah, crazy irrational thinking I'm sure.

Not at UGA. I could have taken a few classes at one of the local tech schools around Athens but they're are just too many issues (transportation, MONEY, deadlines for other schools, etc.) that get in the way of me going to school anywhere but Georgia.

alls i'm saying is that within the teacher-student dynamic there is always an inherent power structure that is skewed toward the teacher, and this kind of situation reeks of sexual impropriety, whether or not it is overt.

just because something is not "shockingly original" does not mean that it is appropriate. your argument is specious and suspect.
priests molesting altar boys is not exactly "shockingly original," but i would say that it is completely inappropriate. on the other hand, our good friend mary kay letourneau really put a twist on the old lolita bromide, but that is neither here nor there. maybe if you come up with more astute testimony, we can have a discussion along these lines.

Me honestly thinks you're analyzing the details of my post WAAAAY too much.
We're not being tested on this. My meaning was pretty simple and wasn't intended
to be complex - or graded. It was simply to express that this situation MAY be
more complex than it appears to be on the surface; and that senior year should be
a FUN year - for example all the dances that high schoolers go to - with each other.
It seems to me that you're automatically equating my general statement "have fun" with
the specific idea of "having fun" with the older teacher.
At any rate, in my honest opinion we've let this expand a little bit more than anybody ever intended.
Danni had a great, meaningful conversation with a teacher and after asking her about it, she's confirmed
to us that there's no problem and that everything's okay. As we all know she's a very smart and
mature person and I'm sure she has everything "under control." So let's
just feel happy that she had this meaningful conversation that she's chosen to
share with us; and I hope we can just leave it there and move on to sharing
other great stuff. :D
oh dude, that's just sad.
please allow me to provide you with a list of songwriters whose work, if you are trying to be cerebral
Who said anything about trying to be cerebral?
I was trying to be nice.
Oh by the way, like Pulitzer-Prize winner Samantha Power said, "Never use the big word when the small word will do."
"Specious" isn't exactly college-level . . . That's high school. Assuming and implying that a person is unintelligent and "trying to be
cerebral" just because you don't like every little detail of their argument or because you disagree with them
is Junior High School. And hurtful.
We now return to our "regulary scheduled programming."

I think it's cool that you have mentors. In today's world, teachers are generally not able to show any special interest in their students, and it's a shame. You are obviously a very bright and unusually talented girl and I imagine that most of your teachers find you to be a breath of fresh air. That being said, you called this teacher "sexy" and said you were "obsessed" with him. Whether you mean that in a girlish crush type way or not, I'm quite certain that he is aware, even if only slightly, of your feelings. In light of that, sharing with you such personal information is inappropriate.
ALL THAT being said, :) no one is going to call DSS.

I'm close to a couple of my teachers as well. My Pre-Calc teacher from High School(senior yr) I am still friends with her and we text eachother and stuff. Same thing with my HS English teacher. PLus, he lives a street over from me and I'm friends with his daughter. I am also friends with my college math teacher on facebook; we also IM and text.

I also have very close relationships with some of my teachers in high school. I remember going to a teachers class every day senior year when I thought I was having mental breakdown and she would just talk to me and listen and hug me. She's now a friend on fb, we text, I visit her often. I also had another teacher who I considered mom. This also happened senior year. She helped me with college stuff. Also a great mentor. So I understand Dani! I think it's great :)

^Yes, but your situation, it appears, is different - your mentors were female. Dani's is male. And she said he was sexy and she was obsessed with him. And she's mentioned several times on these boards that she is into older men.
When I was in junior high, the assistant principal tried to be buddy-buddy with me. I babysat for him a few times (during which his daughter told me she hated her dad). My mom despised the guy and kept major tabs on the situation. I'm glad she did. He was convicted of child molestation the following summer and sentenced to nine years in prison. Looking back now, I can see he was trying to set it up to go down that road with me.
Granted, I was 13 and Dani is 17. However, I don't care how mature you are, or think you are. You just are not equipped as a 17 year old to handle a relationship with a lates 20's or 30 something teacher. And shame on him for not finding someone other than a student to share these deep emotions with. Some lines should just not be crossed.
I don't know Dani and I'm not going to lose sleep over what she decides to do with her life. I'm just expressing my opinion, as one of the older members of this board (since it is now overrun with teenagers), and trying to provide some perspective from an old lady's point of view.

Dani, I don't want you to feel like we're all ganging up on you, but I have to agree with Carrie, Jannie and Cam. I have to admit I was pretty shocked by your post. The teacher is in the wrong here 100 per cent, I mean, I think it's great that many of you feel you are friends with your teachers, but your teacher should not be spending alone time with any of his students and pouring out his life story and feelings, no matter how special said student is. I would say he's pretty aware of the fact you like him, and that makes it all the more inappropriate.

I'd like to add that your age has little to do with my opinion (though it is in the back of my mind, making me uncomfortable). I think Carrie mentioned it, but it's the balance of power, boundaries, etc. that makes it disturbing. This is why it's inappropriate for any teacher, therapist, employer, etc to be emotionally involved with their student, client, employee, etc.

Beethoven pined for several of his female piano students, and sometimes dedicated compositions to them or even proposed marriage to them. These relationships usually floundered when Beethoven forced the young lady into a (figurative) corner, pressing his feelings, & compelling her to tell him bluntly that she wasn't interested in him in "that way."
The inappropriateness of Beethoven's behavior extended to his eccentricity in dress. Count von Keglevics, the nephew of Beethoven's pupil Barbara, wrote: "He had the whim -- one of many -- since he lived across from her, of coming to give her lessons clad in a dressing gown, slippers, & a peaked nightcap."

I started sixth form today. Incase anyone isn't aware of the British school system, sixth form is like college, except all I had to do is stay at my secondary school. I didn't see the need for upheaval to move to another school, and then get acquainted with everyone, with teachers I didn't know. At least this way I know I've got amazing teachers, and will achieve the grades I want.
Anyway, I found out I got onto my Pyschology course. I was ecstatic, because I didn't get a high enough Maths grade at GCSE to do it (I got a C, a B was the minimum requirement. English has always been my subject anyway) so I think some strings were pulled and they took into account my English grades. I've got two years of English Literature, History, Politics and Pyschology. Apparently I've took some of the hardest subjects you can take.

Dani I hate to say it but I think I agree with what this person and others are saying today. Trust me on one thing: It's easy for a smart person, when they're 17, to feel that they completely understand something or to feel that they "have something under control." And it's natural to feel that you have enough life experience at this point to understand what's going on. That's the trap, and it's easy to fall into it - almost everyone does, in one way or another. Part of being smart is being wise and yielding to the voice of experience; and listening to people who are older and wiser than you when they tell you that you may be wrong and that there may be more going on than meets your eye. You're saying you know how to solve this Freshman-level calculus problem, and a bunch of professional mathematicians are telling you that it's actually a graduate-level exercise in 12-dimensional math.
Maybe we've all made "too big a deal" - but so what? Nobody gets hurt if you listen to the voice of experience and carefully, logically consider what some fairly wise friends are saying to you, en masse.

Here's the thing. I agree with you that everyone who's posted has given really good advice, and generally has the attitude of the objective observer trying to give a little perspective. I mean, really, I don't think anyone here's calling Dani a harlot except me. And that's neither here nor there.
I'm going to keep up with Ghost Tracker's math analogy to give my thoughts on the situation. This might get a little more suspect than Stevie Nicks's grasp of grammar. I apologize in advance.
Like I said before, we're all standing outside the classroom (no pun intended) and trying to help her see that the homework problem she's working on isn't as easy as she's presented it to be. Advice, though, is only as valuable as the knowledge that goes into it. In our case, we know the graduate level mathematics that we think are required to solve this, but what we're hazy on are the actual details of the problem...because Dani hasn't shared them.
Is this man a current teacher or a former teacher? Does he have any actual power or authority over her? Just how old is he? What details/tears/emotions might Dani have already shared with him that pushed their relationship from teacher/student to friend/friend? How far is Dani from 18? Has he ever entered into a relationship like this with a student previously? Just how much sex was actually in the "sex poem"? How much of Dani's "obsession" is an actual crush, and how much a glamorization? And, of course, to what extent do we all tweak the true details of our lives when we present them to others?
I think the answers to these questions determine whether or not this man should be judged for his behavior (because I think most of the fervor sparked by Dani's post stems from the sex poem, a work whose contents we have no idea of), but whether or not we judge the teacher, the student should be implicitly blameless. If we're assuming Dani should have known better than to get herself into a bad situation, we're also assuming she's an adult capable of making those decisions, and if she's an adult, then why are we bothering with this relationship at all?
The moral of my story is really that Dani shouldn't share anymore, because she ruins everything. God.

I wish! There are too many menopausal women in my school for him to even consider coming! You've got to love my school's attempts though of getting us to socialise with people and their idea of "fun" is sadly different to mine. Mine would consist of a day in bed and not even considering rising from the lair until noon. ;)
Thank you! I'm glad you found it good, I'm really considering a career in pyschological profiling if I don't end up becoming a divorce lawyer. This has gotten ridiculous.
He has been happily married for 10 years. He is a family friend. I know his wife and his kids. He knows my parents. EVERY girl that has ever had him as a teacher thinks he's gorgeous, and thats fine. It has never once gotten in the way of our relationship. The other teacher I am close with (significantly closer, actually) knows all about this and she isn't weirded out at all-- and she's his COWORKER.
The sex poem was very, very ambiguous and vague. It was very tastefully done and nowhere close to explicit. I was excited because I've known and deeply respected him for a long time and anytime someone shares his or her work, it opens a new area of vulnerability that can really benefit a relationship. That's what this was-- I simply got to know him better through his writing and in the process, I was able to give him feedback. That's all he was looking for-- a professional opinion on the quality of his work.
Although I appreciate the concern here (trust me, I do), I think that a lot of people are jumping to a lot of conclusions. However, I should have censored my post more carefully and realized that it would come off as inappropriate. If I thought that it was at all innapproriate, I would never have posted it. The fact that I did shows that my mind wasn't working that way at all-- I like to think you guys know I'm smart enough to keep myself out of deep waters if I can see the possible bad reaction.

I hate that feeling of knowing that there isn't much you can do about the situation - being stuck in your seat on a plane isn't the first thing you want to do when you feel sick.
Glad you're feeling better though!
And yeah, I can guarantee everyone that flew today in the U.S. felt a little uneasy.

I have a bad bad fear of flying too! My first flight ever was to NYC. I had a panic attack that everyone found so funny ;) A few years later I flew to California.. It was really long but I survied. The ride back was awful though. There had been tornados that whole weekend in Atlanta and we flew back at the end of the weather. It literally took 20 mins more to land. Another panice/anxiety attack. A few months later I flew back to California with a best friend. It wasn't a bad flight at all. Again the flight back was awful but I had a friend with me so it was calming.. Anyway I so understand that feeling! Flying is so scary to me.

I do have an analytical mind, sometimes works to my advantage, sometimes makes me paranoid. I'm exactly the same, I prefer working to my own time limits. Plus, I'm godawful at allocating enough time to get things done. I know, "practise makes perfect" and that, but still. I can never be arsed to practise!
And this is why I love you.
I can drive myself crazy over-analyzing things people have said and/or their body language and somehow I always manage to come to the conclusion that what they were implying was something negative about me. I really need to learn how to switch it off and only use it for practical things.
I always intend to do some revision or practice exam technique, then I remember how messy my room is/suddenly have the urge to watch Murder She Wrote/need to go to Tesco for milk etc...

Since last night, its been a bit harder for me to figure out the whole Kanye situation. The signs are there that would suggest that he was trying to get attention/drum up publicity- his co-headlining (with Lady Gaga- what a pair, right?)) arena tour was announced today, with the first batch of dates on sale this weekend. Plus, it just seems too stereotypical and predictable, since he's done this exact same thing before (even performing in an SNL sketch about it).
But, maybe he's just a complete egomaniac asshole who's oblivious to everything and everyone.

Yike! SO sorry that happened! . . . . :(
Little "tip" for future reference - Never stop if you can swerve.
(It takes MUCH less time to yank the steering wheel to the left or right and go around, then to move your foot up, over and down on the brake - plus swerving takes advantage of momentum, whereas trying to stop means you're fighting against the momentum of the car.) Naturally you have to use your best judgment in each different case; and obviously sometimes you'd want to dump as much speed as possible if you're obviously gonna collide.
I don't mean to sound "preachy" or imply it was your fault or anything like that, it's just that that "little trick" saved my Dad's life once, or at least saved him from extremely severe injury. He was doing a good 60 mph on the highway and some a-hole who had just gotten into a road rage incident swerved out from the shoulder right in front of him without even bothering to look first - I guess he was still yelling at the other guy - instead of trying to stop - 'cause he knew he wouldn't be able to - my Dad just simply jerked the steering wheel to the left, and so instead of having a head-on collision kind of thing, he hit the other car with a "glancing blow" and so there was much less energy and force involved. Car was reparable and everything, too.
For whatever it's worth, that particular accident was immediately ruled the other guy's fault (he had admitted it was, too...) and so his insurance had to pay for it.
Anyway I hope it works out with getting your car fixed, etc. Glad you weren't hurt!
daniellaaarisen

I probably would have done that simply out of instinct if I had the time/space.... this was a 30MPH zone and he wasn't too far ahead of me. And he literally stopped DEAD in his tracks-- I wouldn't have made it out if I had tried.

Yike. Sorry that you're going through that.
If it helps any, I studied some neuroscience in school - the feeling seems to be that it's totally caused by a neurotransmitter imbalance - I THINK it's serotonin "but don't quote me" - so it's totally not "psychological," they think - just something in the brain that's a little out-of-tune and needs to be fixed. Look at it this way, though, at least they know how to get things back "on track" with this kind of thing, these days.

Not to be all Stevie Nicks in the 85 interview currently posted in her forum, but I swear to God, I woke up this year, and I was suddenly good at math. I just came back from my calc class, and after missing two days, I still seemed to understand the lesson more clearly than most of the other students did. Before a few months ago, that NEVER would have happened. I'm going to break down the reasoning behind this for you all, though I'm sure no one cares.
High school was fairly valueless for me. I rarely went when I was enrolled, and in the middle of senior year, I graduated early. I knew I had been or would be accepted to most of the colleges I had applied to, and working and earning money seemed a much better use of my time than sitting mindlessly in a classroom. I felt like I had played the game long enough. The only thing I really regretted was that I felt that I never understood math. I could memorize what formulas we were taught and memorize what problems to apply them to, but I never knew *why* I was applying them, and I didn't quite see the use in being graded on my memory.....so I just didn't try. At all. I didn't do my homework, I didn't study for the tests, and I only managed high grades because even barely attending, if you hear a formula again and again, it's eventually going to stick.
So. I got to Wellesley. I had a vague notion of what algebra III was, an even vaguer notion of what pre-calc was, and feeling ignorant while floating around with people who had taken math in the 10th grade that I've never even dreamed of started to really piss me off. I decided to take calculus just for the exposure, though I was sure I would flounder and fail. In the span of one week, I became more than comfortable with concepts of pre-calculus that I felt I had no hope of ever really grasping before because, for the first time, I was taught the why of it, not just the how. I can work with a "why." Learning a "why" makes sense to me. I might actually bother to do it. Now that we're on to actual calculus, I'm even more intrigued. There are graphs, there are theories behind the graphs, they physically make sense and offer explanations.
The moral of the story is that I'm currently having a love affair with mathematics, JTIS.
Oh, except downside now? I feel like I've garnered what I needed to from college, that it's the governing principles, the big ideas, the "why"s, behind any idea that are far more important than the actual idea itself. I'm kind of over college.

This is actually VERY interesting to me personally; for many reasons. Only one of them is that I'm really interested in the field of Education and I think it shows much - for one thing, to me it shows exactly how are colleges are succeeding (or at least leaning somewhere in that general direction) and our public schools are failing.
Oh, except downside now? I feel like I've garnered what I needed to from college, that it's the governing principles, the big ideas, the "why"s, behind any idea that are far more important than the actual idea itself. I'm kind of over college.
Well, don't forget, knowing about the gears which make the engine go, is an entirely different thing than understanding the gears themselves.
One other thing I'd like to point out - I think this is a general "rule of thumb" across ALL majors in college: After you graduate high school, you can take a vocabulary test of college-level vocabulary words, and do well on it. After your Sophomore year or so, you're starting to use them, even when hanging out with your friends. After you graduate college, you're talking like a college-educated person. And I think that's a good thing. Sorry, but "Like, I was watching Jay Leno last night and he like was so FUNNY!" doesn't exactly cut it at the water cooler. ;) Communicating effectively and being able to make a persuasive argument (in my opinion) really are important for success - regardless of what jobs or careers one ends up having over the course of a long life. Granted that can be learned in places other than college - but it really is true (i.m.o.) that the students learn just as much - or more - from each other than from classes.
It really is a "learning environment" - even if a somewhat LOUD one! lol!
Just some ideas. :)

I agree that students learn more from each other than they do in class, but I've actually found that I've learned much more about how to communicate in the business world from internships than from anything else. I spent the last summer interning full time at a law firm, and I fill my time at school working as the head coach for an SAT tutoring program for low income students. The mix between working one on one with professionals and instructing a classroom full of unprivileged students taught me nuances of communication that the classroom, or the student body of my college of pretentious elites, never could have.
I think your comment on the use of college vocabulary is interesting, but here we part ways. I've found the most effective communication is clear and concise, and it rarely, if ever, requires a lexicon above that of a moderately gifted high school sophomore.
Oh, and I'm dying for Luke to jump in, one, because I'd like to flatter myself and believe that I've finally said something he'd find interesting, and two because I believe he left college early after he had found a better way to meet his goals.

I'm studying this in Pyschology at the moment. There's a few different theories as to why people become anxious. You're right about serotonin, that's the chemical that makes us feel "happy". Obviously, reduced levels of serotonin will make someone feel depressed or anxious. Other factors come into it too though. The environment plays a factor too - what's going on in your life, work, things like that. We're always told to take a "multi-perspective" when looking at behaviourial abnormalities as they're called. It tends to be a number of different things that cause us to feel emotions, so some of it is pyschological.

i.t.a.
I think internships are very important, for many different reasons. I personally didn't do any - and now I wish I had.
They're starting to move towards "integrating" outside experience with classroom work - which I think is GREAT. For example, somebody might do an internship at a law office, and the work they do there would also be discussed in a pre-law class. Meanwhile there could be a club to join which focuses on the same issues that the law firm does; and meanwhile a history class could cover the history behind the legal issues being discussed. They're trying to present the big picture and how it all connects together, in other words - I think that's fantastic, personally. At the least it should make it much more interesting - and practical.
I think your comment on the use of college vocabulary is interesting, but here we part ways. I've found the most effective communication is clear and concise, and it rarely, if ever, requires a lexicon above that of a moderately gifted high school sophomore.
I can actually agree with that, at least to a point. I can tell you that there's a writer I admire very much - Samantha Power - the Obama advisor that got in trouble awhile back for calling Hillary a "monster" - I consider her a VERY good writer - she won the Pulitzer Prize so it's not like I'm the only one with that opinion. Anyway, they once asked her about it and one of the tips she gave was, "NEVER use the big word when the small word will do." What she really meant i.m.o. was "don't use the big word - use the right word."
At any rate though, I can tell you that when I was taking graduate classes in Education at S.U., I noticed that the students - no matter what their major - were talking (in general) at a high school or even junior high school level when they entered (although I have no doubt that most would do okay on a writing and vocabulary test) - but by the time they got to junior or senior year, they were talking like "educated adults." Of course, it's totally debatable, how much actual influence the college had on that; it could easily be argued that it's just "normal maturation" or whatever. But i.m.o., college at least let them feel encouraged, that it's "okay" and even expected to talk that way. Granted communication isn't everything - persistence, hard work, and all of that, of course - but considering what people are paying in tuition these days I figure they might as well get their money's worth. Syracuse University undergrad in my opinion is a PERFECT example - they're talking about something called "value per dollar" in Education these days - the VALUE of an S.U. undergraduate education is (i.m.o.) very, very high. But the COST is so ridiculously expensive that it may literally not be worth it, from any point-of-view. SUNY Buffalo for example may not (in some majors) provide as good an education as S.U. But the "value per dollar" at S.U. might be, for example, 0.9, whereas it might be 2 at SUNY Buffalo. That would obviously make Buffalo the better choice - whether S.U. likes it or not. And that means that S.U. has some thinking to do...
All "i.m.o.," of course.

Today is the one year anniversary of my great grandmother's death. Even though she was 87, her death was unexpected. As my grandpa said, we all expected her to live until 100. I was super close to her and had spoken to her just 2 days before she died. I was able to say goodbye to her before she died in the hospital but I refused to look at her in the casket. I went through major denial. I KNEW she had passed away, but in my head it didn't make sense that she could really be gone. I almost had a break down. BUT I was finally able to grieve and accept that she was gone through a lot of music and some therapy. I'm in such a better and healthy place today. She's with me where ever I go and I'm going to celebrate her life today.

It's been cold and dreary all week so far. Friday couldn't come soon enough.
I actually decided last minute to go home this weekend! We have "fall break" which basically means that we have Monday & Tuesday off so naturally I'm taking Friday off as well.
I'll be flying because it takes nine hours by car... and as much as I would love to listen to Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks for nine solid hours, by myself, singing at the top of my lungs... I'd rather just fly. It's quicker, although 28593x more expensive.

I hear ya. This week is death week.... especially since I have a five day weekend this coming weekend. Which means a two day week next week. The week after that is homecoming. The week after that is the one prior to Halloween and I'll only be at school for 4 days because Maris is coming on Thursday.
So basically, if I survive the next two days (doubtful), all hard things about October are over. Too bad I have four tests tomorrow, three tests Friday and a huge King Lear essay due Friday that I am ABSOLUTELY SCREWED for.
I hate this.

I'm in the Cape Cod area this weekend for my brother's wedding and today I went to Martha's Vineyard with some of my family.
We heard Carly Simon owned a store there, but who da thunk she'd actually be in there just hanging out when we walked in. I tried really hard not to gawk as did everyone else in the store at the time, but it was pretty surreal being there, literally 3 feet away. My aunt managed to make eye contact and said hello, but that was as much as we all had the nerve to say.
Then about 3 hours later we're all sitting on the street eating ice cream and Bill Murray walks by with his family, or at least we think it was his family.
I never have random celebrity experiences, so to have 2 within just a few hours was pretty insane.
Oh, also I heard Holiday Road in one of the stores I walked into. So of course I hung around till the song played out.

For instance, I had a philosophy midterm an hour ago.
We've been on "fall break" for the past five days and today was our first day back to classes. So yeah, not exactly great timing. I definitely didn't open my notes all weekend.
I'm pretty sure it totally just kicked my ass. Hopefully I was able to B.S. some stuff to make it sound good hahaha.

And yesterday I had a Physics test... but I "forgot" to study for that one. I got 105%. Which means I got all of the questions including the extra credit right. Studying normally does me no good. All it does is make me freak out that I'm going to fail. All of my friends make fun of me for this tatic, but they don't have 4.0s!

I took a friend home from work tonight. We live in the same neighborhood so of course I didn't mind. I warned her I'd be playing some FM. She didn't even know who they were, so she was worried. I had the very best of in my car. I played GYOW really loud to scare her haha. I actually played that first because I figured she'd have to know that one. Well she didn't. I was like wowwww. Anyway I played Sara second and she seemed to like it. I went to disc to and played the chain. She really liked it, and then I played don't stop and she actually said " wow, see this isn't that bad" and I was like I know right! They're such an amazing band.

Today, in study hall, (which I have in the room where tech ed. is taught in 2 rooms) I looked into the shop room and saw that someone had written Fleetwood Mac on the board in this form:
http://www.todayfm.com/Libraries/Gallery%20Two/Fleetwood%20Mac%20(1).sflb
It was not me. I pretty much ran with arms flailing screaming into the shop room where my study hall supervisor (haha) / shop teacher was sanding some wood and I was all like "WHO WROTE FLEETWOOD MAC ON THE BOARD!?" And he was like "Dunno."
I left a note on the board w/ an arrow pointing to the writing that said I think we need to meet. I just realized that they will not know who I am. Oh well!

Last week, I took a mile barefoot walk with my (other) favorite band, Hanson. They started doing the walks in 2007 as a way to encourage their fans to "walk in someone else's shoes", or in this case, what it's like to walk without shoes. In the beginning, it was largely in support of Toms Shoes (http://www.tomsshoes.com), who provide one pair of shoes for children who have none for each pair you purchase. Since then, the band has created their own charity, Take the Walk (http://www.takethewalk.net). For each fan who walks a mile before a concert , they donate $1 to that fan's chosen cause, ranging from building fresh water wells, to donating cell phone minutes for AIDS medication notifications, to donating shoes, to building schools. They also donate $1 per person who participates in a walk organized by a fan. Their goal prior to last fall's tour was to add up the miles walked by each individual and have them combine to match the number of miles it would take to walk around the world. Through band and fan hosted walks, they succeeded and are now well into the second lap. Aside from raising thousands of dollars to help children in AIDS ravaged South Africa, they have also helped to show their many fans how simple actions can combine to create large results. I've been lucky enough to be a part of seven walks and their work has definitely opened my eyes!
I'm so excited and proud to be a part of this action, so, like the thread title says, just thought I'd share!

I went home sick today. But I don't think I have Swin Flu or anything. (Or H1N1, whatever you want to call it.) I also stayed up until midnight last night to look over and correct over 20 Algebra II assignments and then got up at 5 to continue. I went to school a half an hour early so that I could get help on some of the problems I didn't understand, but my teacher got there fifteen minutes after the bell rang. He then decided to not collect assignments. I was severly pissed. And I have slept all of 5 hours, but I'm still not mentally tired. Ugh.

Let's see. I got a text from a previous teacher of mine last night saying, "there's a Fleetwood Mac biography on the Bio Channel right now! Go watch it." Today, she told me that she watched the entire hour long program and she wants me to burn her more of their music (she only has Rumours and The Dance). My crazy Stevie antics have gotten me far in life. As Sara so wisely said, friends don't let friends live without Fleetwood Mac.

This may sound foolish but of all the guys I've dated in my life, so far he's the best in so many different ways.
