Well today was a good day....in school I learned a new haircut and Ashley visited me during my lunch break =) Then I went to work. After work I went to Ashley's and my night went bad =\ Idk what was wrong with her but it seemed like everything I did pissed her off or something...I'm sleeping at home for once(i've been there for like 2 weeks) and my mom wanted me to sleep at the house for once and Ashley got upset =\ So now I am sad...

Sorry to hear you about sad.
Just want to share this little bit of info with you...
From my experience, dating women is so very complicated. I have learned that I was a big ol pain in the ass to the mens, mostly because they did not get it and couldn't understand emotions and hormones. Now that I'm dating a lady, I realize how overly dramatic I was sometimes and this has helped me keep a little bit better grip on my emotions. I also realized how flat guys were. Yeah, I was dramatic but I didn't deserve to be called "crazy" just because I felt things and thought things and dreamed things and occasionally was overly emotional about something. The best part about Sarah is that she doesn't make me feel like I'm crazy because of those things. Women understand. Women are also more willing to talk and work things out.
I hope you and your lady worked everything out... I bet it's better already.

I just finished up my University application and I've mailed the final draft of my personal statement to my tutor.
I really don't want to go.
Hey, what prompt did you use for the statement?
Mine was basically pretending that I'm doing a writing project with a group of kids of different nationalities and religions and other jazz. The project has to be done in a week, and I have to explain how my background with diversity will help me to successfully collaborate with the others to do the project.
I'm headed to Michigan State University (hopefully).

I used this website for my basic outline and found it a really big help :D http://www.studential.com/guide/write_personal_statement.htm
I just nicely exaggerated how much I like Media Studies, what it means to me and where I want to take it etc.
My tutor has been through mine with me and pointed out what's good and what's wasting characters etc so I think I'm set

Really? I don't know of any dorms that allow you to paint. Many won't let you tack fabric and junk up, either, due to fire hazards. I never went to college, but of my friends that did, most of them had incredibly strict rules about the changes they could make to their rooms.

My guess is that- at most places- you can paint the walls... they'll just take the cost of re-painting them out of your security deposit, or something.

Hmm. Maybe. I'm a cheap bastard, so I wouldn't want to risk that, myself.
I'd suggest just reading the rules for your particular school, Bee. That way, you don't end up with any untoward financial surprises and/or school officials in jackboots jabbing at your kneecaps with blunt instruments.

Hehe. When you put it like that it just feels like a challenge to me. Last year I had to pay a £50 downpayment at the beginning of the year for materials despite the fact that we saw sweet eff all of this as we were made to buy our own materials. So I'm just gonna say that the paint can come out of the first downpayment and they can kiss my bum if they try and argue it. It's my Mum's fault. She is the world's best at arguing her cause and winning so I'd probably have no problem if I let her handle the situation lolz!

Haha, fair enough. Do what you do, madam! I'm usually squicky about my security deposits, because as I said above, I'm a cheap bastard - mostly because I'm also a poor bastard.
Of course, that didn't stop me from drilling approximately one metric f*ck-ton of holes in the walls of my old house so I could hang all my Stevie/Mac albums all around the house, but hey!
My new house here in Saint Louis, I'd originally planned on buying it, but after all of the insane crap the owner has been putting me through, I'm just going to lease it until I find somewhere better and can actually afford to move again. I have permission to paint and do whatever I want, which the place really needs, but I'm now adverse to spending any money making the house nicer when I'm not planning on living here very long. Meh. It is sad, because this house could be REALLY fun if I fixed it up a bit more.

In my Junior year, my roommate and I took to writing on the walls with a Sharpie, or something similar. We had all sorts of things like quotes, pictures, and we always started all sorts of lists. My favorite list was our people who suck list. It was awesome. I can't remember exactly how many people ended up on that list, but it was always such a kick to come home and add another name to the list.
A few days before the end of the year, we got a gallon of the ugly dorm white paint and it took about 10 coats to cover up the black marker. Probably the worst paint job I"ll ever do in my life time. But it was totally worth it to live with our room that way.

Writing on walls is always fun. I've always wanted to get some of that chalkboard paint and do a chalkboard wall somewhere in my house so I can scribble on it.
And that's awesome that you ended up with a roommate that had similar sensibilities. I've never been to college, but I watched a number of my friends get stuck with terrible roomies. Not all of them were actually bad people or anything, of course, but even so, it's hard to share such a small space with a polar opposite.
My friend Amy's last roomie took the biscuit, though. She was INCREDIBLY religious and patently not shy about sharing. Constantly. Amy's a really nice person & really tolerant, but she's a black metal fan & looks the part, so the roomie was forever trying to convert her. Amy got really fed up with it, but wasn't one for confrontation.
This was around the time Clerks 2 came out, so I decided that if Amy wouldn't tell her to shut up, the only way to handle it would be to re-enact this scene (sans the Transformers bit) in her dorm room - (definitely NSFW):
<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/oMVAc0pgnOw?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/oMVAc0pgnOw?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Amy would've been Randal, and I'd have been crouching outside the dorm window in order to play Jay's part, with the part of Silent Bob being our other friend Jamie. King Diamond for the win!
It would've been beautiful. Alas, Amy wouldn't let me do it and the roomie moved out before I had a chance to browbeat her into letting me. :distress:

Feel better, dear moderator. May I suggest getting someone to drive you to go get a second opinion? Shingles normally happen to the elderly, usually to those well beyond 70. My suggestion is to rush to a dermatologist. Crazy allergies this fall, which is unusual. Is it possible it is not shingles? Do you live in a very wooded area? Believe me, I mean not to make this worse for you by prying. I just think it can be a poison shumack (sp?) or something more likely for a person considerably younger than 40, which I take you as.
Even shingles when 50-ish is very uncommon.
Fibromyalgia, when it's most awful, can imitate shingles. Especially, if the pain is in all four quadrants of your body, do not discount fibromyalgia. There are 8 pressure points they give you a test at that quickly reveal if that's causing your suffering. My Mom's physical therapist, who is 43, has it. A rheumatoid arthritis doctor would be who to see for the fibromyalgia. The therapist I was speaking of had no idea she even had arthritis, let alone fibromyalgia.
If it is shingles, definitely, huge doses of Vitamin C may help relieve some of your discomfort, it helped my aunt.
Best wishes for comfort and pain-free days to you, soon!!! Get an outrageous amount of bedrest, guilt free. You need to. xo

Especially, if the pain is in all four quandrants of your body, do not discount fibromyalgia.
You need to. xo
I don't have any type of rash- nothing at all to be seen on the skin. The diagnosis was given tentatively, based on the ("textbook") symptoms I am experiencing.
Considerably younger than 40? Bless your heart- I'm 42. :) I am staying in bed again today. Praying for NO rash.

Oh dear, feel better soon, Jannie! My uncle got shingles (and probably every other nasty known to man, the poor guy) when he was on chemo and it was awful. Hopefully no rash will surface and you'll kick it in no time!
I am still battling the Annual Back to School Ebola, which has now settled into my chest. Hooray! Shortness of breath and no way to fix it! Just what I needed.

On a different note, my doggie appears to be suffering from dry skin - anyone got any good home remedies for an itchy dog?

Probably will sound barmy but when my Cat had an itchy rash (serves him right for pulling his fur out) I bathed it in milk and it soothed the itching.
Edit: The bald patch. Not the full Cat lol.

Witch hazel on a cotton pad and dab on the area(s) as needed. Works on my puppy Quincy's hot spots. Very cooling and soothing.

Witch hazel seems like that would be drying, no? I would think some sort of creammy skin softener for dogs is in order. whenever I give kiki a bath I put biosilk on her and, with her short hair, it gets right on the skin. yes, the same thing I use on my hair!

Surprisingly, it isn't drying at all. For doggie bath we use Sergeant's Fur So Fresh dog shampoo for dry, itchy, flaky skin. It is wonderful because it has green tea and tea tree oil. It leaves my pups lustrous with calm skin (between baths the witch hazel soothes spots on contact).
OMG Biosilk smells heavenly!

JTIS I can't sleep again. So I'm up, listening to music and trying to zone out.
My aunt had a birthday BBQ the other night, so I dragged Cute Guitar Boy along. As CGB was noodling around on my dad's guitar, he played the acoustic version of Testament's "The Legacy" so beautifully, I just might've seen stars:

"Flashes of the day, I knew that I was here to stay, but no one knows my name..."
Live at the Fillmore is a great album, because it also has the absolutely gorgeous acoustic versions of "Return to Serenity (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1tMSTWfNaA)" (probably my personal favorite) and "Trail of Tears (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78-fbo-YOJw)." Testament is one of my all-time fav bands, and it really doesn't get much better anywhere, ever than these songs. Excellent listening, highly recommended, even if you're not a metal fan.

I've been meaning to check out Testament in my prowl for cool metal bands (so far, I found Iced Earth and they're awesome), but what album should I start with?
And is Cute Guitar Boy the one with the the dark curly hair, blue eyes, and working on a beard? (I tend to get the guys in your many stories mixed up, but I still managed to remember Boy What Carries Things)
JTIS, there's a possiblity that my dad might be getting a job in Jersey, but it'll be 2 years before I move there, and at least it'll still be in the New York area (at one time, when he was out of work, he was looking at a job in rural Pennsylvania).

Haha, you actually have a pretty good memory - I only ended up going out with that guy once. He ended up not being what I would consider keeper material, despite the good hair. CGB, however, is definitely keeper material. Been seeing each other for about 2 months now.
But yay! Testament is amazing. So is Iced Earth - good choice there. For Testament albums to start with, my fav are Souls of Black and The Ritual, but CGB insists I tell you to also try Practice What You Preach first, so any of those would be good.
And here are some more awesome bands to check out if you are not already familiar:
Opeth - Blackwater Park is my favorite album of theirs. It is frackin' great. Try "Bleak (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dB1NuL-8Dhc)" and see what you think.
Strapping Young Lad - Anything Devin Townsend (and his Mighty Skullet) does is amazing. Try "Love? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeG-6bpeUkA)" and see what you think.
Acid Bath - These guys only did two albums before the bass player died, but they are phenomenal. The vocalist, Dax, has since had many other projects, though. Try "Graveflower (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeN7fxOlb0Q)."

Last night I had this interesting dream that I decided to try out for the local tryouts of American Idol. The cutoff age is 28 so I figured I'd go in there as a 28 year old with a fake name and fake Birthday and audition. I planned on singing one of my own songs a capella, but wasn't sure if I'd be allowed to. There were 7 people auditioning.
Because I was so nrevous I went outside when the others were doing their thing so when it was my turn I had no idea what the program was. Just before I got on the stage they tell me they will play a music track of some random song and I'm supposed to know the words and sing to it. No one knows what song they will use and if you don't know the words you are supposed to fake your way through it.
The music starts and I can't believe it is in the middle of the song Go Your Own Way. So I start singing and I can't believe my luck; a Fleetwood Mac song! Then after about 30 seconds the music switches to Second Hand News and as I'm singing it I'm thinking to myself, "I am so off key."
They were very kind in their dismissal of me but I knew I wasn't gonna win. It was a fun experience though.

at some company called National Credit Solutions who keep wanting to speak to Debbie, so I sat 'em straight on that situation and I now hope they won't be calling to annoy me anymore.
I did keep my sense of humor about it when posting online at a website about 'unwanted/unknown callers for 800 number', here's a bit of my replies on the website:
"It remains to be seen if they will abide by my wishes - if not, I will send them mapquest or bing maps directions to the cemetery where Debbie is laid to rest and the National Credit Solutions rep can speak DIRECTLY to her then...I doubt Debbie will give a reply and I am very sure she cannot make arrangements to pay whatever bill that National Credit Solutions is calling about."
...even before Debbie passed we never had bills jointly, so it's a mystery to me why they called. Besides, I don't think Debbie needs her credit repaired in the afterlife - I'm sure she is still making good $$$ as a nurse on the 'other side' as she did on this side of life...I know I keep getting offers for her to receive a new cellphone, but I trash those offers because I would hate to see the roaming rates on the bill from the 'other side'"

The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.
And if people actually believe there are "gun-free" zones out there, they need to get a checkup from the neck up. Because there's no such thing. Criminals don't care what kind of zone they just entered.

it's legal to carry a concealed weapon with a permit, but you cannot take the weapon onto a campus. Schools here are getting more violent, so why allow one to protect themselves?
When the whole concealed weapons on campus argument first was spoken about, an OU student was walking to Memorial Stadium (During a O-Who vs K St. game) with a homemade bomb that (luckily) blewup in his hands just feet from the entrance.
Ironically, had that concealed weapon law been in effect just one year earlier, Tim McVeigh never would have been arrested after the Murrah Building bombing - that was the ONLY reason he went to jail in Perry. Had the law passed back in late 1994/early 1995 he would have only had to pay for the traffic ticket at the Perry courthouse and walked off within 30 minutes after his arrest.
I'm not a gun owner, but I am for the concealed weapons permit.

Alas, self-preservation isn't always pleasant at first. It'll get better, though - in my experience, when you get rid of dead weight like that but still feel bad about it, it's just because you've been conditioned to feel that way by your previous relationship with that person, whoever/whatever it was. It'll pass, but you have to ride it out.

Yeah. I have done it a few times in my life, for different reasons. When it happens, I call it "cleaning house." The time it took me to get over it just depended on who it was I was cleaning out and why - abusive ex took a few months, annoying "friend" across the street I was hanging out with because I was bored took about 5 minutes. But I will say that after the first time I cut someone out, it became much easier to do after that.
I am no stranger to guilt, being raised extremely Catholic - that's like air for us folks, haha, even when you don't identify as Catholic anymore. So far, the only person that was incredibly damaging to me that I wasn't able to cut out entirely has been my mother. Instead, I ended up restructuring our relationship on my terms so I could deal with her. Of course, the restructuring was completely one-sided - she wasn't going to change anything, so I just completely changed the way I dealt with her and allowed her to interact with me, i.e., "Okay, I am going to call/answer the phone, but at the first hint of ANY crap, no matter how minor, I'm hanging up," etc. It worked pretty well, BUT I think that's mostly because we were living on opposite sides of the country. She's since passed away and I'm still having residual weirdness over that, but it's getting better.

It's funny, I've started doing this, in the past few months. I have(~had~ now, for the most part) a friend, who just constantly puts me down. Just insult after insult. I do not reciprocate. I fired him as a friend. He's begged forgiveness twice, telling me how he doesn't really have many friends in this town, and really considers me a good friend.
But, he falls off of the insult wagon, every time. I've told him that he just makes me feel like sh*t about myself, and I don't need that in my life. FWIW, I can take a joke. I've told him that 5 put downs in a night, is okay, but 50, is not. And he's failed, time and time again. So I'm done with him. I feel badly about it, but I don't need negative people in my life. Make me feel badly about myself....there's the door, you're fired.

I can relate to this. I used to hang out with two girls in high school who treated me very badly. But instead of loving myself enough to ditch them, I took it. Because I didn't exactly have a line of people wishing to be my friends, and rather than go lonely I retreated into my shell and allowed them to belittle me at every turn. We've since stopped speaking since I moved on to College and University, and I feel so much better about myself than I do back then. And I know it may seem unkind, but when I see them in the street and I see how badly their lives have turned out, or how they seem to mirror the untrue and hurtful jibes they used to plage me with; it does my heart good. I love myself too much now to stand for that kind of friendship, though I don't love myself so much that I couldn't forgive after all these years. That part of my life is over and I'm so happy for it.

Oh dear D: cutting people out is never fun, but, in the long run you'll end up the stronger person because of it. My rule is, once someone's cut out, that's it, they're out. Otherwise, it becomes one toxic friendship.

And I've become pretty darned social. Very social, actually. And I've fired about 4 or 5 people from my life. I'm very upbeat and energetic. I don't need, or want, negative, bitter, users, in my life.
And, to your point, I now have enough friends to choose from, that I realized that I'll keep the good, loyal, loving ones, and lose the rest!

I guess not all of us were meant to be such social butterflies when growing up, rather the awkward kid that nobody really knew what to do with. Oh well. In some ways that builds alot more character, because you grow up with less illusions. I'm glad things are looking up for you though! I'm still in transition phase really; I have a select few friends whom I love to death and acquaintences that still bring out the shy child in me. But I'm getting there. I don't drink, smoke or do drugs so it's hard to find something to bond over lol! Did you ever find that you were far closer with your teachers than "colleagues"? I tended to be like that. In fact I'd spend break and lunch in my homeroom tutor's classroom with him to avoid going out and interacting with the other kids who didn't really get me. Maybe I'm just an old soul. I've always maintained that I was born middle aged, and I'm just trying to catch up with myself before I can move forward lol. Possibly why I find older guys such dishes too. Give me Lindsey Buckingham, Alan Rickman or Rupert Everett over Zac Efron or *gag* the Jonas Brothers any day lol.

Good luck with the transition. You'll get there. And it really is true, that you have to love yourself, first. I mean, I always thought I loved myself....I guess what it REALLY boils down to, is loving and accepting yourself. It's really funny, because I'm SUCH a different person, than I was, only a year ago. Physically(in the best shape I've ever been, and I lost a bunch of weight) and socially. I can almost say, that I need people, for the first time in my life. A loner, no more, am I.
And we're actually opposites, in the friends we choose, for the most part. I do have a few older friends, but most of my friends are much younger than I. I'm 41, in a college town, and most of my friends are 22-30. Most people my age, act like they're old, and are sticks in the mud. I've got more energy than most of my young friends(they actually comment, all the time, "David, where do you get all that energy?"). I've always been a ball of fire, ready to go. Now giddyup! :wavey:
Although I do love a lot of old music...especially old country music. But no one will listen to it with me, so that's my "alone time" music!

No, you are not a b****.
It's good he finally texted you, and you know, something about that story...I am sure you may know him well enough to know the difference, but sometimes the bigger the excuse ("I was selflessly saving dying people!") the bigger the fabrication is. I knew someone brilliant who would come up with the most reasonable excuses for being thoughtless- which made me feel similar guilt or ashamed feelings as you expressed above. Most of the reasons turned out to be lies.
I'm not saying that's the case with the surgeon you know, currently in Jamaica. But I still think he could've taken a minute to reply to you or give you a heads-up and spared causing you the anxiety. He replied after you were angry, took the time then.
A Ledgie must stick up for another Ledgie and let her know she is not a b *word.
I think you had a right to be attended to as being as important as any catastrophe he encountered, and it wouldn't have taken all that much time away from his efforts to tell someone who cares for him and he for you that he was crazy busy.
But, right now, likely you're just thinking how dreamy and wonderful he is, and don't want to hear a word against him.
Just don't blame yourself. He could've let you know and kept you from feeling the way that you did- hurt. It's not wrong to expect a man you care about to consider your feelings; even while in the throes of a crisis involving strangers and his profession.

I was a lot like this when I was younger. I didn't fit well with my classmates. I let some people treat me badly when I should have kicked them to the curb. I also didn't 'party', so people thought I was even weirder. Almost all my friends were older. I was more comfortable around adults/teachers. One of my few friends in high school said 'You're the youngest 40 year old I've ever met!'
Now, I Am almost 40 and I feel like my age is sort of catching up to the mindset I've always had. Still, most of the people I'm around in daily life are far older than I am, so they tend to not take me seriously. That's hard to deal with. I feel since I have lived 36 years, I have a valid point of view on things.
Recently, I came to the conclusion that I have had enough of dealing with people who don't have my best interests in mind. So, I finally blocked my sister's phone number. That may sound bad, but it has been a long time in coming. She's the type who thinks everyone should give to her/do for her/ feel sorry for her and put up with her, no matter how badly she treats you. Well, my days of that are OVER!:woohoo:

I haven't seen them since Larry came back. Unless I've missed it, they haven't been in the area. Surprisingly enough, we don't seem to pull in many of the older country acts here, just the newer artists. They still tour some, but it seems like it's mostly casinos, and what not. They play the Grand Old Opry, frequently, but acts usually only get to do 2-3 songs, then the next artist comes on. I'd be too frustrated, paying $35 for 2-3 songs.
We had a great venue here, in Nashville, IN, called the Little Nashville Opry(that's where I saw Restless Heart, and Diamond Rio, many times). It had been there for about 35 years. The owner torched it, a couple of years ago(they have no proof, but it's common knowledge), and it has yet to be rebuilt. There were rumors that Toby Keith was going to invest in rebuilding, but I think that's died off now.....
Dwight? I LOVE Dwight!!! God, I'd love to see him. I've never had the opportunity. Dwight's an extreme rarity. The real deal, among all the stupid Rascal Flatt crap, that's out there!

I'm an only child, and I'm extremely close to two of my cousins. My one cousin, well, we might as well be brothers. We were closer than brothers. Well, he's a terrible alcoholic(now, I drink, but know my limits, don't get in trouble, etc....), and has a terrible temper. Funny thing is, he always took his temper out on everyone else in the family. Not me, even though we hung out a couple of days, every week. Well, last summer(a year ago), he started throwing his drunken tantrums at me, screaming and throwing stuff. Lemme tell ya something, you don't yell at Homie! The fourth weekend he did this, I was done. I love him, but I can't tolerate that behavior. So I fired him. He knows I love him, and I spread word, through the family, on WHY I wasn't going to do anything with him, anymore.
I miss him, but I can't, or won't, restart that cycle. I've considered asking him down one weekend, but we did that for so long, that it would almost certainly lead to us doing it again, on a regular basis. I've grown since then, and won't walk down that path. I feel badly about firing him, but know that it was a "survival move"(lol) for me.

Yeah, but I still overreacted. I could've just waited it out but instead I got kinda melodramatic and pulled the entire, "if you're not going to make this work then I don't want anything to do with you anymore" card. Ugh.

Finally some Ledgies that appreciate DWIGHT!
You've got to see him in concert. He's great as Tony would say.
I have pretty much all his music, except for the box set released

And he has put out something within the last 5 years. 2007's

And it's weird timing I saw this Dwight appreciation on the Ledge,

On that note, I've got a Fender Buck Owens telecaster. Long story, but my friend had an "in", with Buck's personal assistant. When I bought the guitar, new, I contacted her, about getting Buck to autograph it for me. I mailed the pickguard off to him. She wrote me back, that Buck was afraid that Sharpie would rub off, and "would I mind if Buck had it engraved, to me?" Would I freaking MIND??? So he had it engraved, "To David ***** The Twang's the thing July 30, 1999 (typed>) Buck Owens (then autograph engraved) "his signature". I'm not saying he personally held the engraving pen, but the signature matches his other autographs I've got of his, perfectly.
BTW, I offered to reimburse him for any engraving costs, and postage and what not, and she said Buck wouldn't hear of it. That he was glad to be able to do that, for a fan. What.a.class.act.

Well, IMO, there's a right way and a wrong way to go about ditching someone, and forgive me if I'm wrong but, your sms reads as if you'd like to do something other than ditch the surgeon. If you'd like to keep him, and I was in your shoes, I would have definetely approached that sms differently.

My sister is having those sort of issues, drinking and abusing presciption drugs. She keeps expecting everyone in the family to pay for her bills/food while she spends her money on whatever. I don't live in the town she does, but there were times that she would call me up to twenty times a day.She was always asking for money or telling me to call my mom to convince her to give my sister money. If I didn't do what she wanted, she'd hang up on me and spend the rest of the day and night calling and hanging up. After years of putting up with this, I finally said to her 'If you hang up on me again, I'm blocking your number or changing my phone number.' She hung up again, so I did it. Like you feel, I do love my sister, and if it was only me around, I may have put up with it. My husband and son have had this in their lives for far too long.
I was a lot like this when I was younger. I didn't fit well with my classmates. I let some people treat me badly when I should have kicked them to the curb. I also didn't 'party', so people thought I was even weirder. Almost all my friends were older. I was more comfortable around adults/teachers. One of my few friends in high school said 'You're the youngest 40 year old I've ever met!'
lol, I know how that feels!
At 15 years old, I put up with a lot of that crap - alot of the time being slyly and sneakily made fun of about my taste in music and Stevie.

Most of those "cool" kids will go nowhere in life, and they'll have all the personality of a wet sponge. The "cool" kids at my school all pretty much have crappy jobs now and whinge how awful their life is on Facebook.

I have now been dumped by my friend in such a business like fashion that it makes me believe that she didn't actually care one iota about said friendship. I can't decide whether I'm more hurt or pissed off at the moment. And when I do try and talk to my other friend about my feelings, when I have been helping her through alot over the last while, I'm told that I shouldn't be surprised and ought to just suck it up. In other words, I'm not allowed a shoulder, but I'm expected to hand them out freely. Yay for equality

I had a friend sorta like that. For the longest time, she was the most hated/bullied girl in the school, and I was the ONLY person who would speak to her for at least a year. Flashforward two years later, and we've both gone to different colleges, she pops up on MSN with this -
Her "You don't like me do you?"
Me "I haven't spoken to you since July"
Her "I'll take that as a no. Bye"
Basically, she was a friend who was all me-me-me. I've since realised that such people are very toxic and are not to be missed. You don't want a friend who only wants to talk about THEIR problems.
Anyhoo, I have a rant I JTIS. I've recently broken up with someone... again. I thought this time things would go well, but, when I realised I was going to have to act like his babysitter, and was constantly disappointed, I just broke it off. He was on about dropping out of Uni and going back to Ireland... when we haven't had a class yet. He wanted me to wait until February... I said no, I'm not gonna be tied down like that. I know that sounds selfish, and it probably is, but, I don't want a long distance relationship with the possibility of one weekend of sex until next September. When I could be out and meeting any sorts of people who I could have a real relationship with. Gah. I can't pick them at all.

Artemis - the Happles in your sig pic make me squee. They remind me of a toy I had when I was very little...it was a red plastic apple with a similar smiley face on it, and when you pushed it, it rocked and made a jingling sound. My mom called it the Happy Appy.
I had that thing for a really long time - well past the time I actually wanted to play with it - because it was so cute. Sadly, I lost it somewhere along the way, and when my son was born, I looked EVERYWHERE for a Happy Appy for him, but could not find one.
Instead, I ended up with a similar version, except it had a Banana in Pajamas perched on top of it and no face. I liked that one even though it wasn't a Happy Appy, because I also liked Bananas in Pajamas and had a stuffed B1 that would sing the theme song that I got in like 8th grade (shut up, I like goofy things). Unfortunately, my son did not agree - he refused to touch the Banana Apple, so I put it away.
I later learned that he was absolutely TERRIFIED of Bananas in Pajamas, which might explain why he refused to touch the apple when he was a baby. I was digging around in the closet for something and happened upon that stuffed singing B1. My son was about 3 then, and thinking he'd like a Banana in Pajamas that sang to him, I presented it to him with a flourish, only to be met with hysterical screaming and a slow collapse into the fetal position on the floor, "OH NO! NO 'NANA! NOOOOOO! BAD 'NANA! OHHHHHH NOOOOOOO 'NANA NOOOOOO!"
I promptly renamed it Captain Howdy and put it back in the closet. Oops.

I know last night I cried alot about it. Because she was like a Sister to me. When she was around she was one of the best friends to have. But she changed, just like flicking off a light. I heard nothing for months from her, so I told her how I felt. And apparently in her Facebook message (How cold is that?) this constituted harassment. Apparently I'm the B with an itch for making her feel guilty about it. She wrote the message as though she were cleaning out her closet and getting rid of an old pair of shoes that had served their purpose and were preventing her from "moving forward". But today....**** her. That's my feeling on the matter. She doesn't deserve me. I'm a great friend if people give me a chance. And the few who do, realise that. If she can't see that I'm not a heartless robot, then I feel that it's her loss. Guess it helped getting all of the boo hoos I had for her out last night lol. I feel better today. The sun is shining, I have time to paint and there was a good episode of House MD on last night to ruminate over. Life is looking up :)

Bee..... I had three best friends during high school. Two out of the three did that to me, and for completely different reasons. One of them made it NASTY and did everything he could to ruin my life (no joke-- let's just say there was police involvement). I sympathize with your situation SO much and I know that, even if her actions were totally uncalled for, it's gonna hurt for a while. I'm still completely bitter with both of these people who royally screwed my over BUT I've surrounded myself with people who do something positive for my life and because of that, all is much better now.

You can try gargling warm salt water. Ginger tea is also good.
Or if you are not adverse to alcohol, get a shot of whiskey, add a bit of honey and lemon, gargle that, and then swallow it.

Others will say 'Yuck' but I find this helpful with throat problems or if I ever get a bad cold- Peel at least two large onions, chop into varied sizes, some small, some large, fry them in extra-virgin olive oil, and added chopped garlic (the store bought jar of garlic is fine, use about a half a teaspoon, or more, if you can tolerate it- I'd say a full teaspoon, unless you have a sensitive stomach or hate garlic.)
After the onions are golden or light brown and the garlic is slightly browned, add a can of double-strength chicken broth, don't dilute it. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat and wait about 15 minutes to eat this gooey soup. (If it's a small can of broth, use 2 cans).
It's an old Russian remedy that really works- I personally love onions and garlic, but many may not, but it gets the toxins out of your system, and if you're really sick, it gives you good relief from the physical pain. Stay home, and let it work.
The thought of eating 2 (or even 3!) large onions at one time (eat it until it's gone, even if it means having it twice in the same day) doesn't seem to go over well with many people, but mixed with the garlic and double-strength chicken broth, I think you will feel much better much faster.
Placing a warm to hot wash cloth on your throat as a compress may help ease the swallowing pain. Soaking in a steamy bath may help, unless the shingles makes it too painful for your skin.
If your throat hurts a lot right now, and you don't have time or energy or onions, ice-chips (put ice cubes in a zip lop bag, zip it, then smash it against a counter, for the chips!) should help.
Nyquil could help your throat, and make you sleep.
Tea, as someone suggested, could help.
When I was going through my w/d this past summer, my throat closed up on me, and it felt like I had fur in my throat that I couldn't get rid of, and couldn't swallow- I had to put all of my throw pillows and throw blankets, anything chenille or dust-grabbing- outside- look around the room for anything that may be irritating your throat- I know that's a different thing than what you're going through, but really, look around your house and see if there's something that could be contributing to this horrible run of bad health you're suffering. Feel well, soon. The onion and garlic soup really works, just make sure there are a LOT of onions in it, will coat your throat and help get some poisons out of your system.
Damn, Jannie. I'm so sorry for you!
Edit: I believe that the onions give a coating to your throat that alleviates the pain.

So I was just making the morning rounds of all the sites I check daily, and I ran across a thread that started out as a critique on the actions of a writer for a prominent feminist publication and ended up with My Little Ponies and HORROR OMG THE HUMANITY WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN.
Behold. (http://sparklepony.blogspot.com/2008/03/more-pictures-of-wonderful-new-my.html)
I kid you not, as soon as I scrolled down and saw that first picture, I yelled out loud, all like, "aaaaaaAAAAAAAAAH!" It only got worse the further down I scrolled.
So, JTIS since those things are now going to haunt my dreams for the rest of my days, and if I'm going down like that, I'm draggin' y'all with me.

Sorry - something about that poster gets my hackles up. I don't know who that is and I've only ever seen him/her post twice now, but both times, they were bizarre comments to you about things you've said on this thread about your life, and I don't like that.
If it's someone you know who's actually okay, I'll refrain from jumping on it in future, but I somehow feel that's not the case. Please correct me if I'm wrong, though.

It's all Stevie Nicks' fault! She's oblivious that several of us have been ill, some very seriously, won't share any of her new 14 songs she bragged about completing so quickly in August until they get ruined by mass post-production, like TISL did, and now Ledgies are turning on each other!
Stevie's selfishness has caused shingles, influenza, throat problems, drug withdrawal, anoxeria, chemotherapy, attacking a poor young woman who has been feeling ill, and now, the Christmas Secret Santa girl who is always thoughtful and kind to everyone is getting into verbal snowball fights in October!
Zombie, I got your back! (not that you need my help!)

Hey, you're the one that brought up <font style="background-image: url(http://i25.tinypic.com/34r979l.gif);" size="3">TEH RULES</font>. I was just acknowledging that yes, I called you a name, and yes, that's against the rules, and yes, I am aware there are consequences when someone breaks the rules. Trust me - when I'm being melodramatic, you'll definitely know. It's much more entertaining than this has been.
Anyway, I think I got what's lit the wick on your tampon now, though! It's a jilted lover thing, right? Do I win the toaster? Yay me!
But to address your question - you clearly don't go here, because if you did, you'd know better than to ask me such a thing. I am pretty much physically incapable of not saying something when I see something I don't like. So yes - if I saw Dani doing something detrimental like you're saying, I would definitely say something. But I haven't seen her do that. And please note the difference - I'm not saying she hasn't, I'm saying I have not seen her do it.
I have seen her post about her relationships, many of which were probably not a good idea, for her OR the guy involved. I even seem to recall several Ledgies pointing that out to her, too. But I have not seen her use personally identifiable information. And to be honest - if those guys were doing something "secret" that could ruin their lives, then perhaps they shouldn't have been doing it in the first place.
That's not my issue, though. My issue here is with your behavior, not whatever she may or may not have done to you or anyone else. If you've got a problem with her, this is not the way to go about handling it. And if you proceed to post anything "creepier" or "more epic" about her in response to this, then all you're going to prove is that you are indeed a creeper of epic proportions.
But hey - whatever floats your boat.

That big red Y! is a big clue, I'd say.

All the bigred Y means, as well as other icons below location, such as the MSN IM icon, are various ways of contacting via IM (instant message) the person posting. As an example, I don't have any of those symbols as I do not have the contact info for IMing displayed in my profile.

Maybe, perhaps.
What I think may have been unsettling was that someone may have used another screen name to disguise who they really were just to chastise someone who never named names and was just 'working through' something by writing about it, many of us have done the same thing.
I think I know who the culprit is, and the red Yahoo IM logo that most Ledgies don't bother using in their posts kind of helped me figure it out in another forum, not Chit Chat, unless I'm wrong.
Maybe much was made of it; but see, Zombie and Daniellaariseen have both been popular fixtures here for a long time and I think it was mostly curious bemusement going back and forth, understandably.
Someone (everyone!) should check out the hilarious parody that ButterCookie posted, French and Saunders doing an awesome Fleetwood Mac sendup, complete with a spliced-in Mick Fleetwood. 'Christine' is soooo funny (Jennifer Saunders) and the song Dawn French sings as Stevie is good! It's in the 'youtube vids' thread here in ChitChat, about the third one down, from ButterCookie.

srsly, wouldnt that be up to a MOD to determine if there is a TOS violation not you playing sleuth? as to the fixtures, length of time or number of posts that any particular ledgie has or does not have should hold little weight; ive been witness to all-kinds from a first post to 30000 posts. frankly, this over an initial 'biting tongue' comment is ridic.

You're correct that it's up to moderators to determine if there's any TOS violation.
I never said that there was any violation; as for playing sleuth, I can, unsnottily, I mean, --play any dang thing I want to play, including sleuth, as long as I insult no Ledge member or intend to cause harm. I mean to do neither.
If there's a sleuth patrol; they'd be the ones to correct me, but I doubt it'd be worth anyone's effort. It was all a minor late night mystery that I made light of ("it's all SN's fault"--clearly a joke) and then the rest was just a little process of elimination I indulged in that may or may not be correct, without mentioning anyone at all specifically.

Hey guys. I've been gone for a while taking care of Nemo and doing school things. I've been super stressed out with all the crap happening now. Nemo isn't doing too well either. His bilirubin is 27.5 (10 is bad...this is horrible), and he doesn't have a chance of making it. Sorry to hear about your baby... I know the feeling when the end is close at hand. :distress: My cat (who was almost 19!) seemed to know it was time; for a few days he would do nothing but sleep or sit in a corner and stare at the wall- almost as if something was going on there. The only thing I am happy about is that I was there at the vet when his eyes shut for the last time.
In my grief, completely out of my mind, I went ahead and agreed to pay extra for the ashes. Don't do it. It may seem like something you need to have when you're in the moment, but years from now, when you are moving stuff around, you'll ask yourself why you did this. Call me unsentimental, but having his ashes in my closet does not exactly make me feel like I am closer to my departed cat! I wish I could have spent the money more productively, e.g., donated to a no-kill animal shelter.

Try crushed ice...when my Rudy (the Rottweiler) was failing & dehydrating, he wouldn't eat food, but he would crunch on crushed ice & drink liquids. Also, try electrolyte enchanced water. We didn't have it then (2002), but the Vet had us give him Gatorade &/or Pedialyte. Now the "Smart water" is better cuz it's sugar free.
Daisy, my beagle, is getting up in years(she's 13) and needs surgery to remove a growth on her cheek. I'm really apprehensive about her getting through the anesthesia...I've had a bit of a problem with her weight and since she snores like a crosscut saw, I'm worried that she has apnea. I almost didn't make it through a surgical procedure of my own a few years ago because of MY apnea; actually died on the table three times before they brought me back for good. Don't want to go through that with Daisy.
Best of luck with your SAT's!! With all else going on, try to stay focused on the tests!

If you revisit the pet thread, my drama was from Feb 2004 Dec 2005. I did have my dog cremated, and I still have a small memorial set up to him, in my living room. A few pictures, with his ashes, and the cards and stuff, that Ledgies sent me. It gives me comfort, having my baby's ashes with me.

I was told that I would have to pay $180 for the ashes and a hundred-something for the euthanasia depending on Nemo's condition (they've never seen him before so they'd have to examine him). My mother just agreed to pay the 180 at the emergency clinic that we've been going to, and then we will make a shrine. I'll scan the picture that I took of him that I'm planning on framing for him.
Nemo was 17 lbs. before, when he got sick and stopped eating he was 12 lbs., and yesterday at the clinic he weighed 9 lbs. He lost 8 lbs over 6 weeks.

I'm beyond disappointed with my best friend. We've been in Uni for about a week, and she's already decided that she hates the course and wants to drop out if she can't switch to Psychology, as she just "doesn't care"
I mean, fair enough, switching course if you hate the one you're on, but dropping out altogether would just be sad, and a huge waste of her intelligence =/ She just doesn't want to do all the reading we have to do.

This happened to me when I started my University course with my besty. She got it into her head that she'd rather just work at a dead end job at a care home for the immediate payoff. It took me so long to get her to commit to the course, but even now she needs to get her priorities right because her work suffers terribly due to her lazyness/lack of interest. I used to put so much help into helping her, but after two years of it I've kind if given up wasting my energy. Hopefully she'll see the error of her ways before she gets another caution and summer work, because her grade was so poor at the end of the first year that if she didn't do the summer work she wasn't welcome back despite having already paid her second year fee. I hope your friend sees the light and realises how important her education really is, and how much it'll benefit her in the future. It's a shame to waste such a golden opportunity to better yourself when it's all handed to you.

The thing is, my friend has a job at ASDA, where she works Saturday and Sunday and gets £400 a month. Her parents won't make her pay rent or anything, so she's basically gotten used to doing whatever she wants. She's used to the lazy life, and I think she's been scared off by how much work we're meant to do outside of class. I mean, it's not fun spending all weekend making notes on the Dreyfus affair - like I've been doing - but, it's neccessary =/
She's stubborn, once she decides to do something, she's doing it. I'm just hoping she'll be able to transfer to Psychology, otherwise, she'll probably just get more shifts at work and be stuck there forever.

Gah...She sounds like my Cousin, who's been working for a Louse's wage at Bodycare since she left school. Mind you, I have no qualms in saying she's as thick as lumpy Custard so that probably added to her decision. At least your friend is making the effort to at least attempt to find a course that suits her. I hope she gets her place. Nobody wants to work at ASDA forever. Even walking through it for shopping is a trial.

I know, right? I did my weekly shopping there this morning and it was awful. D= I was like "I NEED AN ADULT. I NEED AN ADULT" ... in my head, of course. Didn't wanna be carted off as a crazy person

Hahaha! Oh dear! Considering the fact that the last time I was in ASDA, I was actually inside the shopping cart (Last month if my memory serves me well lol), I don't think that's the craziest thing ever. I think supermarkets in general are terrifying to get through, what with the old ladies going psycho trying to spend every last penny (literally) of their pension and spread thin mothers with the kids they think are being looked after by everybody but herself. If it's not a Tesco Express I prefer to steer clear, just for sanity's sake lol.

I prefer to go during the day on the weekday, since it's quieter. But when I went on Wednesday, I totally didn't buy enough and needed to go again today. I'm on a budget (being a poor student and all) and spent half of it on Skittles and Vodka to make Skittles Vodka (for the record, it goes brown... but it's REALLY tasty)
And, why were you INSIDE the shopping cart? xD Totally hilarious mental image here.

Skittle....Vodka? Oh wow...It sounds so obvious now that you say it. Why have I never made this before? I love Skittles lol. Way to get your priorities right on the budget lol! Is it gonna be ASDAs own brand baked beans for Dinner for the next month then lol?
I was dared to get in it. And nobody dares me because they know I'll do it :p Just kind of got messy when my friends started piling their shopping ontop of me. Lucky for me they decided they needed plenty of Bananas, which not only gross me out but I have somewhat of a phobia of them lol. But it was fun, especially the stoic older folks watching me with their eyes of judgement XD

Apparently, you're meant to pick one colour at a time and use that. Then the vodka turns lovely shades of red, purple, green, etc. I put them all in at once and got brown. Whoops.
Also, I'm living on a bowl of cereal and a bowl of rice / pasta a day. So, it's fairly cheap to live on

Oh God xD I have a friend JUST like that.
