about 3 weeks ago I attempted suicide for the first time, unsuccessfully at that. I had thoughts of attempting suicide for the second time on July 16th, so I ended up in the ER at the hospital in the town I live in, and have since been in a state mental hospital facility dealing with the issues that brought me to the point of possibly ending my life.

Been staying positive and hanging in there and trying to improve my outlook on life. I have met many people here who have also been through much worse than I and that has given me strength to make a recovery...

Cheers!!!

THE Brian j.

Hang in there, Brian. I'm sending lots of good thoughts your way.

Just watched the remake of Piranhas and literally cried with fear. I'm no good with horror movies. Though, come to think of it, most movies make me cry anyway. Be they melancholic or mirthful. It's lucky I can't swim anyway, because that's a skill I would have never used again after this movie.

I think I'm going on a mini-vacation to Canada with my ex in a few weeks....

I don't exactly know what to do about this. I'm super super excited because I really liked this guy and I'd love to be back together, plus he's moving from Seattle to the bay area which makes rekindling things possible especially if I don't go to England (who knows about that situation... ugh). We'll see...

Please don't take this the wrong way, hon', but I think you're playing with fire. He's burned you before. And there are a number of other factors involved that don't bode well for this dude. Plus it would be an utter tragedy if he somehow influenced your decision about where to go to school (which should be your first priority). Now is the time (perhaps the only time you will ever have) to go out and explore the world and yourself, rather than be tied down to someone who is in a much different phase of life. You may not realize it now, but in hindsight (when you are his age), you'll see what I mean.

It must have taken a lot of strength and bravery to get help when you felt you needed it. I hope things continue to improve for you.

it took alot to admit myself into the facility (Which I am writing from) because regardless of how suicidal I felt part of me still doesn't want to die when I know I have plenty of love in my heart to share.

A week ago I made an impulse purchase of a pair of Skechers Shape Ups sandals. I know, I know... they're beyond fugly. Perhaps the ugliest shoes ever made. But I was quite taken aback when I tried them on for the first time. They fit perfectly and they had this irresistable spongey/springy feeling about them with each step. But the best part? I was instantly two inches taller. Sold! I assumed any presumed fitness benefit was total bullshirt and a gimmick. Other than the fact that they were extremely comfortable and put a spring in my step, they seemed just like any other shoes to me.

I wore them a couple of times that following week to run errands- short jaunts. Everything was hunky dory. However, this past weekend, I went on a more extended excursion wearing these shoes and attended a garden party with no seating whatsoever; I stood the whole time (admittedly I would normally never wear such ugly shoes to a party, but it was outdoors in the blazing heat). On Sunday morning every joint in my body was singing out in pain- not an entirely unpleasant pain mind you, but the kind you get when you have worked out hard. My knees, my a$$, my back, my shoulders... I was initially wondering whether I was coming down with the flu, but I had no symptoms other than the overall body pain. Then I figured, oh well, this is what happens when you get old. But then it finally occurred to me that it could possibly be from those freakin' shoes, even though I never really felt that different wearing them. I googled around for an answer, but there is so much conflicting information out there. Some people developed joint pain, others experienced relieved pain.

Does anyone else have any Skechers Shape Ups anecdotes to share?

I've genuinely been thinking about getting something like this for when I walk the dog. We go on quite long walks so I want to know if they'll make my legs and butt look a little tighter. I'm no fitness freak but I'd like the top of my legs that little bit more toned. My posture would probably thank me, too.

The first time I wore them, it seriously hurt to walk down the stairs for the next two days. I was fine walking flat, but as soon as it came to walking down the stairs, it hurt like hell and my quads felt like jello!

I'd just like to share that a greater love hath NO man than he that layeth down
his life for the son of a woman who wouldn't even give him the time of day.

Except maybe an actor who rips out his own heart and shows it to the entire world
while it's still beating. . . . . ;)

Just a thought, Miss Dennis: There's 3.5 BILLION guys in the world.
Kindness occurs in greater abundance than you might think.
It should be a GIVEN that he's kind if he's dating you.
Don't sell yourself short, some guys would DIE to be with you;
and some of those live in England and cast some pretty fancy spells,
themselves.

You like Harry Potter, so just to make an analogy with my post above -
I'm not sure who's the bigger fool, Severus Snape or Lily Potter. Her husband
was an ASSHOLE, at least when he was young. I'm not saying the ex is - - -
but look at what she missed out on. And you KNOW that Rowling "knows of what she speaks" -
seriously, listen to Alan Rickman's performance, that was as REAL as it gets. Whoever she is, she's
KILLING herself that she didn't give him a chance - but now it's too late.
Trust me, it happens every day.
And Dannie, NO ONE cares that she's kicking herself or is concerned about "what might have been."
She's just some old chick on line at the supermarket or snoring away in front of her tv.
Seriously, think about what Rowling said - I've seen this happen so many times in real life -
both women and men missing opportunities 'cause they think they have the best deal they're gonna get.
He was willing to DIE for her and she wouldn't even give him the time of day.
That's true of Severus Snape in the story, too. . . . . ;)

JTIS that I almost spit out my diet Coke last night after watching one of my fave shows, The Big C on Showtime. As they were showing previews for next week's episode, I saw my ex-carpool mate Nick cast as the "stocky" bear walking by and making eye contact with Oliver Platt at the gay bar. Hysterical! I'm envious he got to meet Laura Linney, but totally excited for him. He's at 00:23:

I have a cut on my hand. And my body is sore from being so tense. We are both okay. And the car doesn't look bad at all, luckily.

What pisses me off is the fact that Cameron only just decided to cut his holiday short to "address the minor situation". He is the most useless man I have ever been aware of. He should have been home the moment an issue came to his knowledge. Not swanning around buying ice cream and playing on water sliced. Gah. He makes me so angry. I know for a fact riots are planned for my home town and it's just not a town able to defend itself. It's in the pits already.

That's actually pathetic. I'm actually dismayed by the yob culture mentality that's so prevalent in our country these days. I mean, I know our image abroad is the stuck up country, but, nowadays, it's anything but.

I think the riots originally started over that police shooting, but now it seems to have escalated into rioting... for the sake of it. It's sad.

It's sad.

And for the looting - so now all the yobs will be watching the media coverage, with great satisfaction, on the TV's they never paid for!

Strange isn't the word. There are people on Facebook bragging about it, posting where they're planning new riots. Of course, my home town is close to top of the list so I'm pretty scared.

Too easy these days to whip people up into a frenzy - if ever there was an enormous downside to Facebook, Twitter, et al! :distress:

I'm sure they had things before Facebook and Twitter to whip them up. Though I suppose it does exacerbate things dramatically. I don't know what to think of humanity sometimes. People wonder why I can be anti-social and so insular a lot of the time. Of course I will be when the **** a lot of them does affects me so deeply and makes me miserable. Alot don't give a **** about each other. Just what they stand to gain from them. Any excuse to attack and maim physically and mentally over any difference and they leap at it because they don't know how to tolerate.

I hate this time we're living in. I just want out.

These riots are absolutely insane. I've been streaming BBC all morning.

Last night the riots were literally just up the road from where I was. We had to rush back to the dorms in Greenwich before it spread to our area. Riots broke out in Lewisham yesterday, too, and I was just there the day before. It's all happening very close to me. . . I hope it ends soon. The fact that it's spreading around the country though doesn't make a quick end seem very likely. :(

There was an absolutely awful youtube video floating around showing a crowd of 200ish vs 8 riot police, just running at them and flinging ****. It's hit manchester now. People are tweeting that The Arndale Centre, the main mall in the city centre, has been broken into and looted and there are various shops on fire. I'm about 14 miles away in the countryside so I am safe but there are too many people that I know who live there.

The news has just said "hundreds of people are rioting down market street in Manchester".

Truly frightening, though here across the pond I have the luxury (at least for now) of being more angry than scared. As we all know, if this stuff can happen in the UK, it can happen anywhere.
It's being reported that hundreds have been arrested. Will many of them get more than a slap on the wrist?
I hope this violence dies down ASAP & the law-abiding citizens can go out in their neighborhoods in peace. The things we take for granted in life...

Doubt it. Problem is if the police what I think they should do and run in, guns blazing and blow the rioters' brains out people would whine about it, and when they're just trying to arrest everyone and throw them in prison like they are now, people whine. They can't win

Huge respect to the large mass of youths patrolling London to defend against the rioting crowds and make citizens arrests. Extremely brave of each and every one of them. Makes me somewhat ashamed of my plan to hide out in my bedroom if they make it to Bradford.

Because these copycat riots have spread so rapidly from city to city across England, I am just hoping that they are contained here and do not start to leap from country to country!

To put things into perspective, although this is terrifying and devastating for people living in and around our big cities, if the majority of us here in England didn't turn on our radios and TVs we would know nothing about this. It is only going on (so far) in a few pockets of the major cities.

JTIS, I was talking to a co-worker yesterday that I hadn't seen for a few weeks. Well, as it turned out, the weight loss was not intentional; it was a side effect of chemotherapy for Stage II cancer.

But now that she has been back for a few weeks, it looks like the baby bump is gone. What do you say in that type of situation? Do you merely ignore the 800 kg elephant in the room? She did give me her pin, I was like 13 when this happened. She's only doing this because her attorney bills are all getting sent to my dad so she's suing whoever she wants, apparently. But that was her main way of giving me money for years so she could probably trace me to a few thousand dollars of she wanted to. There is no way she could produce the paper trail that singles you out as the perpetrator of ATM withdrawals 6 years ago. She would literally have to obtain bank video surveillance and/or dust her ATM receipts for fingerprints. And the fact that you had the PIN says it all. You should countersue her for emotional distress stemming from this frivolous lawsuit.

From the tone of her email, I think she already has some evidence. I don't want to fight her anymore, I don't want my dad to pay for a lawyer. I want to try to talk it out, pay her whatever she's asking if that doesn't work, and then officially cut her out of my life, no turning back. Hey Dani,

Sorry to hear about this. I have been through many of my own issues with my mother, but never something of this magnitude, so I don't know what to tell you other than keep your chin up and hopefully the situation will work itself out.

I've done a lot of reflecting on my parents in recent years and I realize they are human and make mistakes, but I also know that there comes a point in time where they need to not use their children as their crutch to explain every bad choice they made and take some accountability and own up to their missteps. Hopefully your mom will catch a glimpse of reality and realize that she's not gaining anything but a guaranteed estrangement from one of the only two people she should have an unconditional loving relationship with. I know her dropping this won't give her that relationship, but still you probaby can see what I'm saying.

Now, having said that, given that your mother is accusing you of things in the past, weren't you a minor and under her guidance and so she's ultimately the one to hold responsible? Not sure that will hold up in court, but the minor angle has to work in some capacity there.

Anyone can sue anyone else for any reason they want as long as they pay the filing fee to file their suit. However, just because they can does not mean they have a legitimate claim. I don't see any way that your mom could win such a suit. The first thing that comes to mind is the statute of limitations. That was six years ago. Aside from that, you were her daughter, she gave you the pin code, she took you to the ATM (explicit consent), you were a minor.

I don't know what sort of evidence she claims to have but I don't buy it. She could end up having to pay your attorney fees if you go to court and she loses.

I definitely see shades of my mother in yours. My guess is she's an expert bluffer, just like mine. My mom LOVES to threaten, but when it comes to truly aggressive action (like your mother is threatening), my mom never went through with it. I doubt your mother has the energy to take her tirade to a courtroom, and I don't even know her. Even if she did, a judge would likely toss it (take this info from someone who now works in this line of business).

So here's a really personal question: is your mother an addict? Mine is a prescription drug addict these days, and I believe that's part of what fuels much of her craziness and lack of coherent memory. She was a coke (I so just typed another word...) addict through most of my childhood. So she just graduated from one addiction to another. My Dad and I have begged her to seek counseling for so many years because of her anger & addiction issues, but that just makes her even crazier when we suggest that. My only course of action the past couple of years has been to throw up a giant and very unforgiving barricade and keep her behind it. It's not what I'd prefer, but it keeps my life peaceful.

My mom is funny this way -- she does a lot of bluffing but every once in a while, she pulls something absolutely ridiculous. For example, when I was 17, I went to Walgreens in my car before emptying the dishwasher. She had asked me to do it 5 minutes before but I decided to run to grab my prescription first. I come home to two cops parked outside my house.... she told them that I had stolen the car.

My only course of action the past couple of years has been to throw up a giant and very unforgiving barricade and keep her behind it. It's not what I'd prefer, but it keeps my life peaceful.

She's not addicted to a substance, no. She drinks her fair share of wine but between my two parents, she is definitely NOT the alcoholic one. She is, however, addicted to money and beauty, and I think those obsessions ruined her.

Thanks so much for this post Amy. I completely agree with all of this, and although I'm at a healthy emotional place with my mom after years of struggling with it, this still came as a huge upset. I don't really know how to deal with it, but I just want to avoid court if at all possible.

I agree with everyone else -- she probably can't do all that much in court. I just really don't want that added stress on my sister and father. I'm going to call her tomorrow and figure it out...

You are very welcome. Like others, I'm here to listen anytime and I mean it. Let's definitely make sure we can sit and talk when you are out here in a few weeks. And not just about this. You make me miss being your age!!!

In the meantime, I hope that your mom comes to her senses and just lets you be. The age that you are at you should be having the time of your life, not dealing with the remnants of your parent's own emotional baggage. Your mom just isn't in a good place and her way to cope is to try to bring you down with her. Chances are her lashing out at you has more to do with her being insanely jealous at the success you are in life at your early adult age than with any actual hardship she's having.

Anyway, like I said before chin up and just try to be the bigger person, even though she's the parent. I'm glad to hear that you have been able to process and deal with a lot of this already and you will find the means, strength and support to get past this. You know where you draw your inspiration and courage to move forward, so make sure you tap into that too!!

Ooo. That sounds nice, apart from the Bread. I tend to prefer wraps as Bread tends to bloat me up and make me feel quite ill. I haven't had Peanut Butter in ages. Might have some for Breakfast with some Lemon Jam. Om nom nom :p

I've never heard of Lemon Jam.

They sell it over here. It's a bit like Lemon Curd, but the rind and Lemon pieces are present, rather than in the Lemon Curd, which is completely smooth. It goes surprisingly well with the salty Peanut.

First some background. About a year ago, my father and my step mom separated on extremely bad terms. Totally cutoff from her due to a number of reasons, but along with that, his entire life outside of his job got cutoff too. All his socializing was at the hand of her and so he is back to his bachelor days like when I was a kid and he divorced my mom.

I haven’t lived with him since I was 9. From age 9-15 or so I’d see him on weekends, but very awkward cause he had no clue what to do with a daughter and his son. Basically I learned everything I needed to know about baseball and football in those years cause that’s all we did. Needless to say, he was present in my life, but not on a day to day basis or on an emotional level. My basic needs were always taken care of, but I never felt comfortable being with him because I felt so distant emotionally. We were stuck in this basic/primary state and couldn’t develop a deeper relationship. Later on in my late teen/early college years, I saw him even less. More cause I had such a need to be with my friends than anything, cause that’s what you do when you reach the age where you can drive and work and start to cultivate your own life.

Well, when I was 20, my father remarried and since he was now living with my stepmom and stepsister just as she was entering her teenage years, over time he was able to relate to women better, and me especially since I think watching a girl grow into a teenager and young woman on a day to day basis was missing with him and me. And in the long run it benefited me because for most of my 20s and early 30s, he and I asked developed a decent adult daughter-father relationship. But with well-defined boundaries and a pretty solid expectation of when we would communicate/see each other. Meaning we’d speak 1-2x a week by phone, maybe had a dad-daughter dinner3-4 times a year and then I’d see him 6-8 times a year for birthdays, bbqs, etc. Bottom line, we had very scheduled visits, didn’t regularly talk on the phone outside of work hours and all his free time was consumed by my step mom. And guess what. After 15 years of life like that, it was the norm for me and I got very accustomed to that.

Ok, so now my back to present day and my father is living by himself, bored out of his mind. He’s not willing to get out there to try to meet anyone cause he’s trying to win my step mom back. And unlike the first time with this living by himself stuff, he doesn’t have his kids to occupy him on the weekends. We’re both grown, and in fact my brother lives 5 hours away so that makes me the accessible one.

Here’s the crux of my whole issue. My father is now calling me on weekends and expecting me to just be readily available to talks to him, call him back, come down to his place, etc. And it’s not sitting well with me. Remember, for most of my adult life, we scheduled each other in. And after living on my own for 14 years, I’m pretty used to my independence and when he calls me and leaves me messages like, call me back so I can find out if you can come down and when I don’t call right back he calls me back and says, “I’m so worried you didn’t call me back” or “I called you yesterday and why can’t you pick up your phone?” and other variations on that theme. Now I know it’s probably coming from a good heartfelt place, but to me, I can’t deal with this type of scrutiny on my time or lifestyle. Up until now, if he called me on the weekend, we were either firming up family plans or someone died. We did not shoot the breeze. Honestly, I don’t think he even thought of me much on the weekends cause he was always preoccupied with my stepmom. And again, I was fine with that. He had his life, I had mine and from time to time our paths crossed. It may not be your textbook definition, but after so long it worked beautifully for us.

So I got another one of these calls yesterday. This is like the 3rd or 4th time this summer. I was away all day yesterday since the wee hours of the morning and I missed his call and when I got home in the evening, I didn’t feel like talking to him last night. And today I wanted a me day. I didn’t want to talk to anyone. SO he calls me about an hour ago and I decided to pick up the phone cause I knew I was going to get the “lecture” about being incognito and just wanted to get it over with. Which is exactly what happened. And I say hello and he goes into this whole diatribe about how it’s been 24 hours and he didn’t hear from me and how he was so worried something happened to me and blah blah. Of course since I’m sick of this sort of in your face and honestly I feel intrusive communication, I said, “Dad, you can’t keep doing this. I didn’t call you right back. It’s ok. I was busy. And I’m 36 and I feel like this is checking up on me and I don’t want or need that. I was going to call you back. You didn’t say anything was urgent. I just wasn’t able to do it. It’s all ok.”

Well he wigged out on me, about hung up on me and makes me feel guilty for something I didn’t initiate. I mean, he can’t let me have a reaction to anything he says or does without throwing it in my face. So of course this makes me want to talk to him even less. And I think to myself, if I was married, would he treat me like this? Well I learned today he did the same thing to my brother, who is married, so I guess yes. Which leads me to think that this whole need to just get us at the exact moment he feels needy is really going to get out of hand.

He is just in a miserable place and as much as I should want to be sympathetic towards him, all I want to do is run in the other direction. I know I sound like a brat cause I’m sure there are many people who would give anything to just have one more conversation with their parent, but that’s not the situation I’m in now and I don’t want this to lead to a situation where I just really cut him off for my own sanity. I don’t really see myself doing that, but I need to get passed this obstacle with him. I’m stuck and don’t know how to get him to a point where he can even appreciate why I feel these calls are a bit ridiculous to me.

Bottom line, I feel like my whole relationship that I’ve built as an adult with my dad has completely unraveled these past 12 months. I feel that sure, I could step up and be more empathetic at times, but he’s not willing to take one iota of responsibility for things going awry. He’s in the situation cause he messed up. Yet, I’m the one sitting here pondering this.

Help!!

Oh and PS, yes, I do make time to see him. I've seen him pretty much 1-2 a month since January and it was a lot more before that since he separated. So it's not like I don't include him in my life.

The constant pestering reminds me how my Nanna got towards my Mother in the last few years of her life. Day and night she was calling, expecting Mum to drop everything so she could go see her or take her shopping. Just generally be her skivvy. And she wasn't grateful for a single thing she did. Never a thank you or an "I love you for helping me". And if my Mother was unable to do something for her, Nanna would turn and start badmouthing her to her Sisters and really run a guilt trip for it. It exhausted my poor Mum who's always gone out of her way to help. I sympathise with your situation. I really. All you can do is your best. I don't think, personally, that he has any right to behave as he is, because it sounds like it's bordering on harassment. He needs to learn how to be his own independent person again. By the sounds of it he's been quite damaged by the whole experience with your Stepmother and doesn't feel as though he has a place in anybody's life any longer. He needs to get out, make friends and fill up his social calendar again with new experiences. Do they have any hobby clubs or any sort of gathering in his area that would interest him enough to get involved in? He might be able to find himself a little less available than he is now.

So true! I know its for the best and I am so proud of my mom for doing this. Considering she was SO scared to go. but I think my mom has hit her bottom and needed this wicked bad! She was depressed and stuff and wouldnt go to work. It was bad...then like 2 weeks ago she told me her liver was in distress. Her Dr. wanted her to go to rehab asap.

I'll have my mental breakdowns away from my gram and stuff. I'll be strong and take care of my gram and cat and make sure my uncle's $$ gets mailed to him every tuesday(if she stays longer than 5 days). I'll go shopping for food and clean. It'll be wicked stressful, but I'll do it.

P.S. my mom and her bf of 14 years broke up and he moved out so obviously shes sad about that too

First some background How old is your father? Is it feasible to obtain another phone line into your home? If so, record this voice mail "Hello Dad, thanks for calling. All is well here, just super busy with work, and ____ and ____. I will give you call as soon as I can. Hope all is well for you, thanks for calling. Oh, and do leave me a message letting me know what you've been up to!" When he asks how the phone/voice mail knows it is him that is calling, explain it's a new technology. Switch it up occassionally with a different voice mail. This will also work using a cheap cellphone for this purpose only.

Or...ask him to stop calling so much, and give him the reasons why. Don't feel guilty.

So a few weeks ago, I mentioned my job situation. To refresh ya memory, I had a full-time 40 hr week job, but due to budget reasons, several of us had our hours cut to 30 hrs.

Since then the boss gave some hours back to 3 employees if they work them at another location due to them firing a few people there. For whatever reason, me and two others in the department were not given that option. Although me and the other's are upset about this, we didn't complain.

So Saturday, my close friend(though she is one of the three that got some hours back), told me that the boss is suprised that nobody has been upset or complaining about only having 30hrs. I have the feeling that he thinks we are content and happy just working 30 hrs a week.

Meanwhile I got a call from a job I put my application in with, and tomorrow I have an interview! :woohoo:

The green zebra tomatoes are my current favorite. A little tart, with very few seeds. Lemon cucumbers have been popular in the garden centers recently, but this is my first time growing and eating them. They are pretty much just like a regular cucumber, but small enough to eat by yourself.

I went to visit my mom today...even though its only been a day LOL I miss her terribly! Plus she needed a few things. I didnt mind driving the like hour and then 30 minutes of traffic to see her. I tried to keep myself together. But as visiting hours were coming to an end I broke down and stated bawling saying that I missed her and that I was stressed and i cant wait to have her home in a week! Obviously she started crying too lol but I was even more sad to leave and drive an hour back with my grammy. I brought gram home and made her a sandwich for dinner with some chips on the side and made sure she took her meds...oh and made sure my cat was fed....

Went to ashley's to watch some tv shows we watch on monday's...sleeping over ashley's tonight then sleeping at home tomorrow.

P.S.I'm still trying to air out my moms room of cigarette smoke lol

She was depressed and stuff and wouldnt go to work. It was bad...then like 2 weeks ago she told me her liver was in distress. Her Dr. wanted her to go to rehab asap.

I am happy for you that your mother is receiving help, but also horrified about the stress you must be under. You must be strong.

I am wondering though what kind of treatment she could be receiving for a week. Is it just detox? Recovery takes a lot longer than a week. I wish all of you the best of luck, but I do wonder whether she will have acquired the necessary tools to battle her addiction within a week. If nothing else, she will need a LOT of support from you and others who have gone through the same thing. Best of luck!

Thanks..Oh I am strong lol I have at least one breakdown a day lol i gotta let it out or else I get angry at people and thats not good.

I think its a detox place. The minimum you can stay is a week. Then I think they assess the person and see if they need to stay longer. Plus i think it depends on how severe the person's addiction is. I saw people who were way worse than my mom. They go to meetings everyday and group sessions and its a nice place.

Oh I know recovery takes more than a week. My moms been trying to quit drinking for YEARS on her own. I know she wants to do it on her own but she cant...she always falls back. Plus her now ex-bf moved out because my mom kicked him out since he drinks a million times more than she does lol

When my moms comes back shes gonna be going to AA meetings on a regular basis and make some new friends who dont drink

My uncle called me and we only talked for like 5 minutes and my phone was almost dead when my mom was like almost full battery.....
So i turned my phone off so when I got home and I could charge my phone and wait for my mom to call me...
Well on my way home from dropping Ash off her house I turned my phone on and noticed she called twice...but when I called I got an operators thing...So I figured after a certain time they turn the phone off so I was rather sad...
But then my mom called me =D So now I'm happy..

Just seen my life flash before my eyes. I accidentally knocked my iPod Touch off of my night stand into my glass of Lemon Cordial. Luckily it was connected to the ear plugs and they stayed on the table tangled in my decorative shawl, pulling the iPod out of the glass and dropping it again on the carpet so it didn't get an absolute soaking. Letting it dry out now and, knock on wood, it seems okay *knocks on all wooden objects in a blind panic*. Not even the first time that's happened :(

My heart was racing trying to dry it off. Completely petrified my Cat with my pacing and swearing lol. Stevie has a very good point. I'm not a fan of much technology at the best of times, so this really did freak me out. Last time it happened was when I was out walking with family in Windermere and my Apple Juice leaked in my bag, my iPod dying in a spectacularly sticky fashion because of it. Welcome to my life. I have a severe hypothyroid and my body rejects the hormones they give you to treat it, so I'm eating very little and working out 6 days a week and yet it takes weeks for me to lose a single pound.

Standard treatment for hypothyroid is synthetic thyroid, e.g., levothyroxine. Have you tried "natural" thyroid (derived from porcine thyroid glands?). I have heard of people who swear by Armour Thyroid, which is a legitimate drug preparation, although I don't think all pharmacies carry it.

As I've stated before, these are my golden rules for weight loss/maintenance:

-Do not drink your calories. Avoid drinks sweetened with sugar or laden with cream. Avoid juice.

-Do not starve yourself. Eat when you are hungry and stop as soon as you are sated.

-All carbs are not evil. Only avoid/minimize processed/refined/simple carbs.

-Unless you are chronically anemic, avoid meat. Cheese is not your friend either. Eat plenty of fiber.

-No eating within 3 hours of bed time. Eat a big breakfast, a generous lunch and a small dinner (or snack on nuts, veggies and fruit for dinner instead).

-Concentrate on strength training, including yoga and pilates, rather than cardio.

I do most of this. I only drink tea and water, I very rarely eat heavily processed foods (a few times a month max), I eat 1000-1500 calories a day and count them religiously, I spend at least 30 minutes doing strength training a day/6x a week (and run 3-4 miles as well). I rarely eat red meat and only eat chicken a few times a week, if that.

It's just so frustrating. I had no problem losing weight/maintaining a certain weight until last year when my thyroid decided to pretty much stop functioning -- and I feel like there's absolutely nothing I can do about it. I can live if I'm like this forever -- I'm very slowly learning to accept the parts of myself that I really hate. I just feel like I've lost all of my appeal because of this, and it's really started to consume my day-to-day life. On top of that, I'm petrified of restricting myself too much because I'm constantly battling my previous eating disorder and I know that if I don't watch myself, I'll easily slip back into that after years of staying away...

I'll look into that natural alternative -- thanks for the advice as always, Ed.

One of my best friends has Hashimotos, and she struggles with weight constantly. Before she was diagnosed, it didn't matter how little she ate or how much she exercised - the weight just kept adding up.

Thankfully, her diagnosis meant there was a treatment which seems to be working well.

It's all I can do somedays not to hurl my stapler at him and tell him to shut the F up. hmmmm. when the ice bit starts, have you thought about utilizing said stapler as a hand exerciser thereby creating a silvery mound of staples on your desk? if there are issues with utilizing office supplies (staples) needlessly, hole punching a ream of paper works just as well as likely there will be a need for hole-punched paper at some point (this could be considered proactive with supply needs)

when he rounds the corner to complain, look him square in the eye and tell him you find this to be the perfect time to conduct the task as it manages to drownout what sounds like every bad motel 6 icemachine - then give him a pondering look while asking "do you think it is the chiller for the air conditioning unit?"

goodluck.

Yeah, I know how she feels. I'm glad that she found a way to deal with it!

Well, things could be a lot worse for me considering obesity is in my blood (thanks, dad). I'm not seriously overweight or anything, this doesn't affect my health in any way. I definitely count my blessings when it comes to this... it's just so irritating to watch yourself transform over a period of a year and not be able to do anything about it.

1000-1500 seems draconian if you are indeed exercising that much.

No comment. :sorry:

Actually I took my drug test yesterday, hence me urinating into a specimen cup.

Exactly. I average 1200 a day.

Ok, let me rephrase... You may be eating too little for your body to lose weight.

I don't think so, but its possible. I never feel all that hungry -- I just choose what I eat very carefully. Also, I try to slightly vary my calorie intake each day so my body doesn't get too used to a certain system, which prevents your body from going into starvation mode and retaining as much of the fat you consume as possible.

Basically, I think my thyroid is just screwing me over. Again, could be wrong, but my research shows I'm generally doing the right thing.

I always thought that too. As an itchy nose is supposed to mean that you're going to have a fight. For me that usually means a Tarantino style Battle Royale with a Spider. God I hate those hairy B******s.

It's 5AM and I haven't been able to sleep for the last few hours. I am freaking out about my move to England.... I feel SO unprepared. I think part of me didn't think it would ever actually work out so I ignored a lot of important immigration factors. I haven't applied for my visa, etc. I really hope this doesn't affect my chances of attending. I don't think it will but I'm still scared to death...

Unfortunately, you're spot on Georgie. Admit it, one day there'll be one too many across the border and our small Island will sink like the Titanic, haha. Who can play Violin and Cello? I'm putting together an Orchestra for that dreaded day.

I don't know. I do occasionally get The Kinks in my head when I read your name. Though not so often that you've become synonymous with it lol.

When I get extremely frustrated or nervous the only thing that can help me is sex! I am very frustrated right. I went to the fabric store cause I need some zippers and it was closed! They're supposesto close at 5 on Saturdays! Now I need to get this frustration out and I have no man around. These r the tunes that I hate being single!
