Me too! So I put my own honey and a bit of extra lemon in the lemon flavoured ones, with some sugar so it's tooth-rottingly sweet but I get the painkilling and decongestant effects too.

Sounds like a good improvement! :laugh:

Do you have Nyquil over there? I always have a bottle on hand, just in case I feel sickness coming on. We probably have something similar to the powdered stuff....I was just raised on Nyquil, and I'm a creature of habit.

Now on the lemon/honey/whiskey mixture....I think you know my position on a combo like that!
:]:]:]:]

And BTW, Viv, I laugh aloud, every time I see your sig pic!!!

That sounds like it could be similar to our Nightnurse and Daynurse remedies!

Oh yesiree - if you have a couple of those lemon/honey/whiskeys at bedtime, you might sweat all night but you'll be feeling no pain!!!!

Oh, I'm still sniggering away at my sig - I stole it from the Dress Up Doll thread and then Bee jigged it around for me to get it to fit. If I'm feeling low I just look at it and next second I'm in hysterics! :lol:

I ALWAYS hated whiskey, the taste, and even more, the smell. You can smell it on someone, a mile away. It wasn't until I started hanging out at this scary redneck place(I'm not a scary redneck, but my cousin is, and we started hanging out there once in a while, since it's close to home). Annnnyyywaaayyyy, that's all they drink there. A round of shots would be bought for all.....and guess what? It was always whiskey. I finally developed a taste for it, and oddly, it went from the bottom of my list, to the top. It's now my favorite liquor.
Whiskey/Sprite, please!:D

Do you mean blended whiskey or proper single malt whisky (scotch as known in the US of course!) As someone who grew up surrounded by distilleries in the part of Scotland where some of the best whisky is made, I'm a sucker for a good single malt such as Talisker or Balvenie. Those, you do NOT mix with Sprite! :distress::D

:lol: I am sure you will have similar over there!

It's a cold/flu remedy - it's a powdered concoction of paracetamol, aspirin, decongestant, and lemon flavouring that comes in sachets of a single dose. Empty in a mug and pour over hot water.

I think it's disgusting - would much prefer a mug of hot fresh lemon and lovely honey, will a liberal helping of whiskey! Does the job much better! :D

Sounds something like Thera-Flu over here. I think I've only had 1 cold in two years since moving to a warmer climate.

More of a blended whiskey, here. Spellcheck here calls it whiskEy, btw.:D
Do you not mix it, there? I much prefer Coke, but my insomnia issues keep me from ordering caffeine products, at least in the PM. And FEW bars carry caffeine free pop, so I've accepted Sprite, as my unfortunately significant other.....:(

But I'm always a team player. Sleep be damned. :laugh:

Whiskey if the Americanized/****ardized (delete as applicable :p) spelling.

Ok - with whisky I was distinguishing between single malt whisky, as made from one grain only, versus a blended whisky that is made from more than one grain. Single malt whisky (or single malt Scotch) tends to be more expensive and and one that you'd have a small measure (or "dram") of in a glass with or without water/ice (rocks). They are usually named after the distilleries where they are made. To mix a good single malt with anything other than a drop of water is just plain bad.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_malt_whisky

Blended whiskies are made by mixing different types of grains together. They are cheaper and these are the ones that are made with different types of grains. This is your Chivas and other brands etc. Any drink that calls for whiskey would always use a blend.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blended_whisky

Now look at this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_whiskey
This explanis Jack Daniels, which is most definitely mixed. I do love JD and Coke! :D

Blended whiskies are the ones that you mix with coke.

I just checked the tour schedule today and I'm disappointed that she's not coming to Denver this time. Right on! Best news I've heard in a long time.

Liberty and Justice for all.

It means for ALL.

I don't know what is so hard about that for supporters of Prop 8 and other biggoted legal initiatives to understand. Spiritual beliefs and religious beliefs are personal, and the American legal system is designed to prevent us from imposing our personal beliefs and prejudices upon others. We all have the right to worship or not, however we choose. None of us have the right to impose our religious beliefs upon anyone else. This protects all sides from persecution based on religion.

Some would say the legalization of gay marriage is effectively imposing someone else's personal beliefs upon them, but to that I say, marriage equality is a civil right, not a personal belief. Whether or not I marry another dude is not impacting anyone else's civil rights, and that is the issue at hand that will be decided if this goes further.

Speaking of which, supporters of Prop 8 will probably appeal and fight this all the way to the Supreme Court, but even though the court has a Conservative majority, I believe this will be a grave mistake for opponents of marriage equality which will result in the national legalization of gay marriage and the complete overturn of DOMA. Looking back through history, the Court has almost always upheld the rights of minorites when these kinds of issues are presented to them.

There is a lot of grumbling about the courts legislating (and there always has been and will be), but anyone with a rudimentary understanding of civics and American government will understand that that is the very purpose for which the U.S. Supreme Court -and indeed the entire American system of courts - exists in the first place - they are an equal branch of government, parallel to Congress and the President; a check and balance of power put in place by the founding fathers to ensure that the Congress and/or President (elected by the Majority) do not overstep their Constitutional authority and infringe upon the civil rights, liberties and justice of the Minority.

But enough, I'm rambling. :laugh:

I wish I could say that today's ruling was some kind of major milestone... but it was actually rather narrow in scope. All it really established was that the California ballot initiative (Prop 8) itself was unconstitutional, nothing more, nothing less. It doesn't make any kind of broad motion regarding equal protection under the California state constitution and its applicability towards the rights of GLBT. Really, all it may accomplish is potentially amending the California state constitution so that these kinds of intiatives, which really serve no purpose but to denigrate and dehumanize minorities, are never eligible for a ballot vote ever again. It may get appealed up to the U.S. Supreme Court, but the larger issue of GLBT marriage equality will not really be part of it.

I'm hearing from the legal pundits that this will force the state to grant gay marriages again, and that previously voided marriages must be recognized again.

Not saying it's fact, but it's all over the national media.

Looking at similar issues elsewhere, it seems that when the courts rule that the State can't deny something, that the State must then grant it.

Yes, marriage equality will most likely be reinstated in California. It's significant... kinda... sorta. Personally I think state-recognized marriage is purely symbolic and doesn't mean very much. Federal recognition is what it is really all about. So my point was that this particular ruling will probably not have much national impact.

Congratulations! :woohoo: The first time I saw Madonna counts as one of my favorite moments in life. It was the BEST concert I've ever been to - I screamed so loud and danced so hard - I cried and laughed - it was cathartic, even spiritual.

I just checked the tour schedule today and I'm disappointed that she's not coming to Denver this time. I'm considering Phoenix, but the truth is I have so much going on this year that the very thought of adding one more event, one more trip, is almost enough to put me over the edge. If my partner will agree to a road trip, that would make me happy.

I'll probably go anyway. After all, it's Madonna! :laugh:

I just looked at the ticket prices. Holy crapola! $375 to sit in practically another zip code from the stage in the middle of Yankee Stadium. I'm sorry, but what kind of idiot pays that kind of money to see a bunch of ants jumping around on a barely visible stage to a lip-synched backing track? Yes, she puts on a great show... but that's practically the cost of an iPad!

It amazes me, though it probably shouldn't, how little understanding people have about the way our government works. The founders of our country were absolutely petrified of "the people" having too much direct power. Originally, the only national office that was up for a direct vote was the U.S. House of Representative. State legislatures voted for U.S. Senators, as well as selecting the electors who voted for the president.

Yes, the judicial branch is most definitely invested with legislative power by the Constitution.

I haven't looked at prices yet for Phoenix or Seattle, where I'd likely see her, but when I saw her in Denver back in 2009 it was only $99. I heard tickets would be higher this tour, but wasn't expecting the cheap seats to be that much.

Considering the experience, I'd consider paying $375. But I'll have to think about it...then again, we only live this one time...that we remember...

Hell, I just paid that much for a vacuum cleaner, and it will hardly bring me as much joy as a Madonna concert. :laugh: The first line in my signature was even taken off the backdrop for Like A Prayer 2009.

I know, right? People(no offense, I'm cheap) have more money that sense. $375 is RIDICULOUS. I can't believe that people pay that! Hopefully they'll put out a concert DVD, and I'll pay $20 for it, and be able to watch it for the rest of my life.

The most I ever paid for a ticket, was $75, for The Dance. I'd pay $375 for a FM ticket WITH Christine, and also included is that I get to have dinner with her, where she chucks a glass of wine in my face, and tells me what a stupid f*cking shirt I'm wearing! Anything less than that, my $375 is staying in the bank!:lol:

I think everybody on here would fork out $375 for Fleetwood Mac with Christine on tour.Including me too.$195 was the most what I've payed for a Stevie concert .That is steep.Jones beach comes to mind on Stevie's last tour.I remember the outrage when the Eagles were charging the same $375 for their concerts years ago..I love the Eagles.But I would not fork out that kind of money.I forgot who was the artist was. But he refused to sing for overpriced tickets.I can't remember his name.It Stevie or FM start to pull these inflated ticket prices .I would be limited to go to more then a couple of concerts.The Madonna fans should revolt and start a protest and swalk on FB ,Twitter or outer outlets to complain about the inflated prices.

You'd have to see a Madonna show to understand the ticket prices - I think they're high, but not outlandish or unreasonable. Let's not forget that she doesn't set her prices - Live Nation does in conjuction with the venue. Her stage is very elaborate, with thousands of little LCD screens attached to a flexible netting type of device that can twist, turn and transform - from a video monitor to a cylinder of light surrounding her. The video monitors alone are 25-35 feet high (made up of those LCD screens) - and there are three of them usually. There is a stage cast (musicians & dancers) of aproximately 50 people. Transforming stages that move up and down - last tour a car was even driven onto the stage! It's expensive to transport, assemble, operate and disassemble all of this stuff for every show. It takes three or four days of work for each show - that ticket price covers all of that work, food for the workers, hotels for the entire stage crew.

There are very few artists I'd pay $375 to see - Fleetwood Mac is not one of them, no matter what. I know from prior experience that they could never provide an appropriate value for that kind of fee, neither could the Eagles. Maybe U2...maybe. Considering the high caliber of a Madonna show, I think the cost is appropriate. It's worth it, to me anyway.

I'm not saying everyone should pay that much to see her, and I'm sure there will be cheaper seats at every show. The thing with concerts is you're getting an experience for your money, nothing tangible - just a feeling, a memory that will last forever. Each of us has to put a value on that experience that we are wiling to pay. The last Madonna show I saw was $99 dollars - we were literally in the second-to-last row. Looking back, I'd easily have paid $299 for that experience. It was that good, but then I've loved her music most of my life and it was the first time I'd been able to see her live.

Edit: I guess what I'm trying to say is that when the Eagles are charging 375 for a show, you're paying for ego. When you pay 375 to see Madonna, it's because the show is high tech, lavish and expensive to put on. You get what you pay for.

Here's an example of those LCD-mesh-netting-monitor thingies. The tech at a Madonna show is incredible - no one else uses this kind of stuff.. (the vocal in this video is an overdub from the album version - not the live vocal)

I went into my old school today, and saw my old teacher, and once I've been CRB checked, I'm going to be going in twice a week so I can get all my teaching experience, so when I apply for a PGCE in September, I should have enough experience to get onto it. It's like, I can see the light at the end of this tunnel of essays, stress and constant reading. It's just put me into a total buzz.

I hate children and "youths" annoy the **** out of me for the most part. Don't get me wrong, there are some gems. KarmaContestant, I agree with you that Madonna is worth the money for her live shows. However don't kid yourself into believing the promoter decides the price of a ticket. The price of any concert ticket is determined after the artist presents the promoter with their fee and said fee is guaranteed to be paid by the promoter. I'm guessing Madonna's fee is approx. 3Mil per show. If it was under 1Mil those prices per ticket would be a lot lower.

This is partially true - but you shouldn't believe that ticket price is all Madonna either. Do the math - for instance, the Pepsi Center in Denver where Madonna performed in 2009 has a concert capacity of 17,600 for concerts with an end-stage which is what Madonna uses. She's not playing there this tour, but whatever. If her fee were 3M, then the average ticket price should only be 170 dollars assuming a sellout show, which is pretty much a guarantee for her.

So who's getting other 205 dollars? The venue and the promoter with more than a 100% markup on the cost of the ticket.

But let's be real - the actual number of seats at Pepsi Center for the last tour were 11,750 - or $255 per ticket at a 3M fee. However, my seats last tour were $99. Premium seats were much higher and there's NO WAY the minimum seat price will be 375 for this tour.

People just like to complain, and she's an easy target.

By the way - the cheap seats at Yankee Stadium are only $95 - less than I paid for Fleetwood Mac in 2003. Source: http://gothamist.com/2012/02/07/madonna_will_play_yankee_stadium_th.php

I saw that rear field seats were $375 at Yankee Stadium. That's pretty fracking far away from homeplate! And even still, $95 to sit up in the nosebleeds is pretty ridiculous... Fleetwood Mac was charging "only" $25 - $50 for those kinds of seats last time around. Plus there is the hassle of battling the crowds and battling for a space on packed subway cars and platforms. And heaven help you if you have to drive for some reason. As much as I would love to see this show, it pains me that I could buy a roundtrip airline ticket and go away to some place wonderful for the same amount of money.

I actually thought the ticket prices for Rod/Stevie were a relative bargain, especially if you consider that you're getting two headline-level acts and 3 hours of music. As it turns out, 375 is the maximum ticket price for the entire stadium, excluding VIP packages of course. You also have to consider the stage setup - those rear-field seats will obviously be some of the best seats for her particular setup.

So what is the breakdown of one's cashflow working in a salon? I've always wondered. For instance, when I was in college I waited tables and got a very low base salary (something like $2.50/hr) and pretty much had to survive on tips, which were highly variable. Some days I'd go home with $10 after working 16 hours, sometimes I'd make $300 in the 3 hour dinner shift. Is it the same working in salons, or are the tips just icing on the cake?

I am a bit appalled that, after four hours of work, you get only $13 in tips. That is just beyond ridiculous. I just can't believe people... they all want something for nothing. :mad: It isn't like a restaurant where a server is dealing with multiple customers simultaneously; each of your customers has your sole undivided attention for half an hour or more. And isn't a perm, like, at least $60 or more? You should have been tipped at least $15 from that alone. Geez... :distress: If someone gave me, like, a $5 tip after doing a long, expensive service, I would just tell them to keep it. Obviously they need the money more than me.

It depends on where you work. My husband makes 50% of all service and product sales, plus tips. So, he gets a respectable paycheck plus tips.

Home Sweet Home

It has been my pleasure to call the Gulf Coast home for most of my life. I was
born in Miami, and raised in Bradenton. And though I left after graduating from the University of South Florida in Tampa for three-year stays in Atlanta and New York City, my heart never really left the Gulf Coast.

So, when I had finally had my fill of the Big Apple, there was little question of where I would go next.

It was time to come home.

I’ve been back in Sarasota since sometime in the late 1980s. I can’t tell you exactly when, because my short-term memory got lost somewhere along the way.

And while I have never regretted my decision to come home, I also have neglected to take advantage of being back in what I consider to be one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Until recently.

A friend and co-worker and I decided we needed to see exactly what had changed on Gulf Coast beaches over the years. While both of us live within 15 minutes of the beach, neither of us had been out there in years.

And so we took a trek that began on Siesta Key beach and ended at the City Pier on Anna Maria Island. And, once again, I had the opportunity to fall in love with this place I call home.

There was the sheer beauty of Siesta Key beach, the many faces of Lido Beach—from its family-friendly southern end, to its busy center built around a beautiful pool and pavilion, and its more serene northern end, my personal favorite. But then we came to the beaches of my youth, north of the Manatee Public Beach and out on the City Pier, where my father and I spent so much time fishing and shelling. In fact, the last time I had been to the pier was with my father more than 15 years ago, before he passed away.

So now I am ready to go beyond those beautiful beaches to some of the other things that are so easy to love here on the Gulf Coast. It’s time to re-experience the Ringling Museum, Selby Gardens, Mote Marine, Myakka and Oscar Scherer, not to mention some of the cultural offerings, galleries and more.

In short, it’s time to re-experience other pieces from the puzzle of my youth, and in the process, fall in love all over again with this place I call home.

Hello everyone how are you?

So what is the breakdown of one's cashflow working in a salon? I've always wondered. For instance, when I was in college I waited tables and got a very low base salary (something like $2.50/hr) and pretty much had to survive on tips, which were highly variable. Some days I'd go home with $10 after working 16 hours, sometimes I'd make $300 in the 3 hour dinner shift. Is it the same working in salons, or are the tips just icing on the cake?

Well the salon I'm at is either $8/hr or commision...by the end of the week they calculate how many clients/sales you had and if its more then like $18/hr then you get more?!?!...or something like that i'm still trying to figure it out.....T hen I keep my tips....

Some salons are booth rental...and you have to pay the owner for the booth space and stuff....so you need like a ton of clients LOL

Ridiculous?? I was actually juggling the perm and a haircut at the same time because we were so busy....The perm was only $38.....which is cheap!!! People can tip me or any hairdresser ANYWAY they want...in hair school I'd be lucky if I even got a $3 tip in a client for a perm....The fact that SOMEONE gave them their undivided attention for those 30 min-a couple hours and making you feel beautiful is worth how ever much of a tip they wanna give....being a hairdresser is more difficult then it looks!! If you spent 2 hours on someones hair and they loved it and wanted to give you a $5 tip thats their way of saying how good you did...JUST like a waitress...if you get excellent service you give a bigger tip....

Enchanted_Stevi

Didn't she say her salon is located inside a Wal Mart? That would explain het lousy tips.

I'm not expecting to get $15-$20 tips....I feel amazing even getting ANY tip! Its not about the tips its about making the client feel amazing and good about themselves

Like I said, it IS what you're used to. You get used to being alone, then it's no big deal. But yeah, the past 6 weeks(6 weeks ago, yesterday) have been awful. But I'm slowly pulling out of it. Getting used to not holding someone in your heart, is a very hard thing to do. I was MADLY in love, and got flat out dumped, for someone else. :( I'm sort of entering the angry stage now, and to be honest, that's a helpful stage. One thing that has really annoyed me is the use of the word "toilet" in Europe, as in, "Where is the toilet located?" I dunno... that just seems so... coarse. Vulgar maybe? I much prefer "bathroom" or "restroom" or "powder room;" it places a little bit of distance between the person you are conversing with and the bodily function you are about to perform. :eek:

There is also:

aubergine = eggplant
courgette = zucchini
boot = car trunk
jumper = sweater
bloke = dude
chemist = pharmacy
underground = subway
lift = elevator
rubbish = garbage
car park = garage
cheeky = sassy
tits up = messed up

I also think the British women tend to call each other "cows" for some reason. Is that tantamount to the "b" word? :shrug:

An Irish person called me a "ride" the other day. I have no idea what that means.

You can really tell what a person is like when you get them stressed. Unfortunately, if my "stressing over dissertation" self is anything to go by, I'm apparently a sociopath -_-. Though in my own defense, that only really results in myself holing up in my room for days watching Star Trek and thinking of reasons why I'm not doing any tangible work.

I'm so paranoid about having my coat stolen. About 15 years ago, I had TWO stolen, in about a 6 month period. Ever since then, I guard them like they're made of gold!

I was at a big dinner party on Sunday, and all the coats were in a bedroom. Well, this guy that I didn't know, was leaving with a black pea coat just like mine. I wouldn't have even noticed, but his scarf was pretty much identical to mine. I went leaping up the stairs, to confirm that mine was still there, before I confronted him. It was his!:o Yeah, I know, everyone has a black pea coat. It was the nearly matching scarf that threw me!

I hate people. A couple of weeks ago I was grocery shopping in the Chinatown in Flushing, Queens and I left my sweater on a chair to save a spot in an eatery. A couple of minutes later it was gone. :mad: I mean, okay, fine, it was a nice sweater and you wanted it. But how can you do this to someone when it's 35°F outside and I'm only wearing a T-shirt under the sweater? That's just downright sociopathic.

To make matters worse, I lost my camera at the Bjork concert in Queens. My good camera. As soon as I realized it (when I got home), I posted on the Lost and Found area on Craigslist. No reply. The next day I called the museum in Queens (where the concert took place), and they said nobody had turned in a camera. Buggers, I thought. Two days later, long after I had written it off as a loss, the museum called me to tell me the camera had been turned in. :angel: Thus, my faith in humanity has been restored.

All I can say is that it takes all kinds in this world- both saints and sinners. And unfortunately, you have to spend 90% of your energy protecting yourself from the wrongdoings of the sinners.

All I can say is that it takes all kinds in this world- both saints and sinners. And unfortunately, you have to spend 90% of your energy protecting yourself from the wrongdoings of the sinners.

Yikes, sorry to hear about the sweater! It's good to hear that someone actually turned in the camera though; I would've figured it gone for good. :distress:

If it helps the perspective at all, the courthouse where robbery is apparently just fine is the Bronx Housing Court (*cough*GHETTO*cough* :sorry::shrug:).

Come to Queens more often! We're much nicer than Bronx people! :D

Well... Flushing is also a ghetto, but a different kind. I think I'll just leave it at that, lest I get accused of being a bigot. To be honest, when I realized my sweater was stolen, I was not in the least bit surprised and I chided myself for assuming, well, that "these people" were somehow more honorable than the rest of the populace at large. I can chuck that boneheaded theory right out the window. :lol:

I drive through the Bronx every day... but the nice part (Riverdale). But yeah, I know that the Bronx can get a bit dicey. One of my earliest memories of living in New York was going out on the town one Saturday night, falling asleep on the subway, and then waking up at the terminus of the 4 train way up in the Bronx. I was so scared! But I think it was more due to the fact that I had never been that far into the outer boroughs than anything else. I probably wouldn't feel that way today.

There are two Flushings: Asian Flushing and Jewish Flushing. I don't have much experience with Asian Flushing. But yeah, I don't think there's any kind of color barrier on rudeness and thievery.

I spend far too much of my time on the subway every day - the courthouse is on Grand Concourse (aka ghettotown), and the office (which I only have to go to at the end of the day) is near Fordham Road (I think 4 stops from the terminus of the 4 train)! Being on the Fordham Road bus after dark is a unique experience. :eek:

Seriously, I've never been to NYC. Could you locals give me an assessment of the Burroughs(is that the correct distinction?). How many are there(I mean, we all know Bronx, Queens, Long Island, Harlem, Manhattan, etc....)?
Maybe a breakdown, from the best(least likely to get mugged/nicer people), to where getting murdered/raped/robbed is pretty likely.:laugh:
I'm not trying to be funny, at all, I just found the above distinctions, to be intriguing....

Louie, I go back and forth, between feeling both. I have many friends still in that younger age bracket. And I usually fit in. I worked 14 hours today, and thought about trying to find an after hours party,......went to pee at work, looked in the mirror, and looked/felt tired. Apparently, I'm not Superman....at least not tonight! lol

I'm off tomorrow, though...I'm thinking "sleep in late", then regroup, and wear tomorrow OUT!:D

OK, I'll give it a shot, though I'm probably not the best person to ask. There are 5 boroughs - Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island. Long Island is next to Queens (and not a borough but two counties, Nassau and Suffolk) and Harlem is part of Manhattan. I believe the general consensus is that parts of Brooklyn, large parts of the Bronx, and Harlem are probably the worst places crime-wise. Most of Queens is deathly boring and fairly suburban compared to the other boroughs.

Oh, and nobody cares about Staten Island. :p

Yeah, Queens (and to a certain extent Brooklyn) are very much divided into neighborhoods. The Bronx and Manhattan (and Staten Island) have neighborhoods too, but if you're mailing something to an address in Manhattan/Bronx/SI/most of Brooklyn, you'd write, e.g., "Brooklyn, NY 11201." For Queens, you'd write the neighborhood instead - "Forest Hills, NY 11375." IIRC, this is because Queens was sort of pulled together in the 1800s from various towns (Flushing, Jamaica, some others). Brooklyn was as well, but they haven't pushed the address issue.

Here's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neighborhoods_in_New_York_City#Neighborhood_demographics) plenty of information (obviously not all perfect) on neighborhoods in NYC.

Here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queens#Neighborhoods) is a good description of the different view of neighborhoods in Queens.

Long Island isn't part of Queens. Long Island is broken into two counties; Nassau County is west and Suffolk County is east. As you go east on LI, the island forks North and South. I was born in Nassau County but raised out on the Eastern North Fork in a little town called Mattituck. The South Fork is The Hamptons.

Wow. When "Celebrities" are rude to you, they really do spit their dummies out of the pram when you refuse to stand for it. Apparently I'm condescending and profane because I told this so called Celebrity (through PM) that she had been rude for deleting a message I left within a discussion that she took a dislike to on facebook. I didn't mind the deleting, as I told her (The only reason she disliked was because it had the sh1t word in it, in reference to Justin Bieber. Fine. She doesn't enjoy bad language on her own wall. That's fair enough). What I did mind was the fact that she said nothing about it to me to say "Hey. I don't really like this on my wall. I'm going to remove it if that's okay. Thank you for understanding", rather leaving a rude comment on the wall after removing it. I told her straight that it was a rude thing to do and that there are ways and means of tackling the issue without being so hostile, but I'm now I'm on her naughty list and off of her friend's. Am I upset by this? Not particularly. I just find it funny how some so called "celebrities" use their status as a hall pass to be rude, ignorant to their own faults and downright unpleasant.

Yeah, geographically, Queens and Brooklyn are on Long Island, but government-wise (and in general usage) they're not "part" of LI. Although people in Queens are far more likely to go shopping on LI than, say, people in Manhattan.

Jones Beach is in Nassau County (hence the complaints when that's the only "NY area" show by any band).

I am the procrastination queen today. Back to work tomorrow after a week off. When I finished last Friday I was convinced that over half term I would be organised and get all my marking done. Has that happened? Of course not. I have had a lovely week off which has involved very little work. Today was supposed to be my marking day and it hasn't happened. Instead I have been:

eating
drinking copious amounts of tea
tumblr
browsing threads on here that I've read many times before
drooling over Lindsey in the photo thread
tumblr
eating some more
listening to FM/Stevie on repeat
cleaning (even though I hate cleaning)
more tea

Tomorrow I will regret this :nod:

Maybe once a month, I will delete things from my wall, that friends have left there. I'm a reasonably private person, and when they post things that are too personal, or controversial, I will delete them. Actually, I usually leave them for a few hours, in case they're checking for responses, but will delete it soon.
I have friends who are extremely liberal, as well as friends who are extremely conservative, and I just try to be inoffensive to all. It's just how I am. I've never heard, "Oh, you deleted my comment", so my timing must be spot on!:rolleyes:;):D

It's not the fact that deleted it. That I was okay with because then I found out why because they explained (albeit in a hostile manner). It's just the sheer rudeness with which they responded that got me. I can let a lot of things go. But needless rudeness and hostility isn't one of them.

My boss is a sadist. He gets some really sick thrill out of throwing me into things I have no idea AT ALL how to do. He also "jokes" with me. (Example of said joke: Telling me what a tough guy this landlord I'm supposed to meet in court tomorrow is, how he's in the Albanian mob or something, how he likes people who are tough, how I have to be aggressive and strong in court tomorrow or he won't respect me etc etc. And did I mention tomorrow is a TRIAL, which I have never done in my life and have no prep at all on how to do and I'm considering wetting myself in the courtroom? Oh yeah, the joke: He's not REALLY in the Albanian mob, silly! :distress:)

I probably wouldn't care as much if he threw me into things that weren't so important, but he doesn't. He forces me, without ANY HELP AT ALL, to do things that ****ing matter a ****ing lot to one of his ****ing clients. So that I can be utterly terrified of screwing up. He expects me to manufacture my own work out of thin air AND know what to do with it. And he has no idea at all what this does to me. He has TWICE in 4 weeks told me something positive: yesterday I was alone in Manhattan court and texted him what happened and he wrote back "good job," and today after he left me crying in the office over work I didn't know how to do which had to be done THEN because it needed to go out Thursday morning, he sent me a text saying "you are doing fine. stop worrying about things. :)" (He hasn't read the horror that was my attempt at work yet, and I already know I did something wrong. He'll just go back to screaming at me tomorrow.)

(Yes I know this isn't a lawyers' complaints board)

So my boss took the day off today (or something; he didn't come to court or the office). The other attorney he hired a week or so after me is planning to take the NJ bar exam this week. Obviously this isn't a last minute decision (you have to apply to take the bar in any state months before the actual test), but because it means he'll need two whole days off to go to NJ and take the test (which lasts all two whole days), my boss has apparently decided this is good cause to fire him, because, quote, he's useless and what does he need him for, unquote. He's already unhappy because the guy leaves early to get home for shabbat (yarmulke in plain sight) and his wife just had a boy so he needs to help with the baby (surely something he mentioned during his interview last month?). Now, I'm not crazy about the guy, but did I mention before that my boss is psychotic? And that one of the office guys walked out a few days ago and then had to beg for his job back? And that my boss frequently mentions firing various people in the office for minor screwups? And that he was technically taking the day off today?!?

Depending on the day, he'll either rip me to shreds over things I couldn't possibly have known how to do, or tell me I'm terrific, second in command, destined for greatness, etc. And now the paralegal, who's basically helped me through this whole job since my boss doesn't train anyone, said she might be giving notice on Monday! I don't think my boss has a clue how much people hate him or what a bad position he's putting himself in...

(Yes I know this isn't a lawyers' complaints board)
.

I don't mind your complaining. It just makes me thank God over and over to be so blessed to be my own boss. I had 2 mean bosses in my lifetime that I will never forget.

I don't feel like starting a new thread and I don't know if anyone can help me out - but I just got a tour book in the mail. The staples are a bit rusty and I want to replace them somehow. Good or bad idea?

Unless they're vegetarian, naturally.

Of course. But of course a vegetarian shouldn't be opposed to things like grits and turnip greens, too, without trying them.

I don't know if I'll ever be my own boss... at least not for a long time. I don't know how to do much, I don't have my own clients, I don't have money to advertise, etc etc etc. :(

I hear you on the mean bosses!

In my past careers I worked as a receptionist for 3 different lawyers. One of 'em was a real "winner" if you know what I mean? He was good to me but his clients; well that's another story. I enjoyed those law office jobs immensely.

JTIS...

That I'm starting to get more use to working at the salon...Its a lot of take in after not being behind a chair since July lol and not working on people you know and are friends with. I've been working SO much I feel like I barely have enough time to go on my laptop! Good thing I have my iphone! but I rarely talk to my friends because i've been working so much! But tomorrow is my last day at the Rectory!!! its been a good 6 years! Honestly I'm gonna miss it a lot!! It was a nice job to relax at and get away =) but now I'll have my nightts free mostly and not be so bored during the day.

Nothing interesting has been going on in my life...just work and realxing when I can

=O try using a purple shampoo and a hydrating conditoner.....purple shampoo helps take out the brassiness in "blonde" hair....also try putting on a color blonde you like over it(not bleach but box color) unless you go to the salon to have it fixed.

Coloring your hair at home always was a tricky thing. I much prefer having mine done professionally at a salon with better stuff than home kits. Salons keep watch on your hair too all over until you reach whatever desired shade you're shooting for and I've never ended up a brassy blonde with salon color. However, I have been told by stylists when comparing best shampoos to use before to NEVER use those purple violet shampoos on blonde hair because they're mainly meant for brightening up people with gray and silver shade hair and for blondes they will pull the yellow blond tones (you want) right out of your hair so basically you'll look like Bob Barker's if not careful.

waiting word back about a job at a casino (Been some type of hold due to the gaming commission and their 'audit')

Hopefully sooner than later I will be back here full-time and on a regular basis - I miss it!

I got my very first ever large screen tv and the very first video I watched was Rhiannon from the Midnight Special, 1976. Totally awesome. I'm seeing things I've never seen before on the small screen.

Good luck bro.

got the job, so now on to getting everything back in the order it was before I was ill with depression.

Started to reorganize me 'bootleg' cd collection - which took more than 2 days to finish, so once I get a new PC I will be back to collecting/sharing music as I did before.

I love birds too, many years ago i rescued a wild young magpie, he was very tame and followed me everywhere squawking for food and attention, he thought i was his mum:xoxo: he loved to roll over to get his tummy rubbed, i really loved my pet Maggie, i was SO upset when some random little brat walking past our house decided to kick my lovely bird to death:distress::distress: I think pigeons are pretty cool too:wavey:
At that same time i had a pet black crow, & a large turtle that i found walking along the gutter of our main road, he lived in my yard for years. I was always bringing home stray animals when i was a child, actually i still do:) oh yeah i remember bringing home an echidna, that I found near a railway line, i carried him home (spikes and all) then overnight he buried himself in our manicured back lawn:D, i then had to dig him out. My Dad was not impressed so I found him a much more appropriate home for him the next day:nod:

Seabirds here get pretty close to humans and I've seen a few people have the sandwich they're eating snagged right out of their hands by hungry birds flying above and it's the funniest thing. I do know not long after I first moved here I was on Englewood Beach one day and didn't see it, but everyone around said there was a group of young boys that had been passing a football and one of the boys decided to throw it towards a Laughing Gull purposely hitting it and breaking it's poor wing and it just laying there looking around for help in a pile of sand and it outraged everyone around and people were furious of such a thing. I asked if someone had called authorities or the FWC. I just hope that poor bird received help that day because it was so sad.

I've seen fishermen fishing some of the shallow bays in waist deep water and there will be about 15 pelicans swimming around him hoping for a fish and it's the cutest thing.

I know, I know, don't go clobbering me with anything because I feel like clobbering myself, but I've found myself listening to Taylor Swift's song "Ours" whenever it's on the radio and admit I kind of like it. I think it's the lyrics that sold me.
