Don't think my three days could get any worse. My Gerbil, Zelda, just died. Might seem laughable to most, but I loved that little girl. She's been on her own and lonely for months since my other Gerbil, Avalon, died.
I know exactly how you feel, Bee. I used to keep rats and was so upset when they died that I decided not to keep them anymore so I didn't have to go through the upset of losing them. Some people think it's crazy that you can get so attached but when you have cute furry little critters giving you endless hours of fun you sure do feel the loss.
Hope you feel better soon.

That's me with dogs. Mine died from cancer, 5 years ago(on Dec 17th), and I swore that I'd have no more. I just get too attached to them, and end up working my whole life around them...it's just too much...when you lose them.
I've got one cat left, and when she's gone, I'm done being a pet owner.

Thank you for your thoughts everyone. It made me feel silly to be upset about a Gerbil, but I'm glad it's just me being overly conscious of how I'm perceived. I got Zelda around four years ago to keep Avalon company. Av I'd taken from my old Art Teacher who had dumped her in the art room and was going to leave her over the summer. I wasn't going to have that, so naturally I brought her home. She was a vicious swine, and I thought she might be lonely, so a while later I went to the pet store and bought Zelda. Since then they were inseparable. Avalon treated her like her child, which was lovely. She must have been about 7 when she had a stroke and died which is great for a Gerbil. Zelda hasn't been the same since and turned pretty vicious, though she'd still let me pick her up to do her "mini M.O.T's". It looks like she's had a heart attack. It makes sense that she'd die of a broken heart. She was obviously very lonely. I considered buying another Gerbil when Avalon died to keep Zelda company, but I knew the same would happen when Zelda died and Godiva (That's what i would have called the new one) was left alone. It didn't seem fair. So I just kept Zelda as happy as I could with toys and such. I know death is a sadly unavoidable part of being a pet owner, but I could never not be one. I've always loved animals and it took me years to get my Dad to agree for me to have my Cat, Salem. When I'm in my own place I want to start looking after rescue Cats and giving them a good and loving home. After having worked as long as I have in a Cat sanctuary, I couldn't not do that. It breaks your heart working there.

I am sure you know about the rise in bullying and and teen suicide here in the States mostly in the Mid West. I am not sure if you guys know what I used to do for work or what I do now...
Ben Cohen is a Rugby player from the UK. He is tall strong and a record holding player for his sport.
I found him by accident when researching for a story about the US sh*t slinging politicians and their gay fetish...(so Michele Bachmann watched as she had us gay folks all into cages...) the rise in hate crimes and greed and gunholders bring weapons to a tea party in the town hall because a Dem like me will steal them away etc
My writing here is not perfect as most is done via phone...and I like a conversational style. We don't speak like an article in a paper...anyway...I came across a youtube video of this man sending a message to gay teens here in the US after several reported cases pf young people killing themselves because of the pain and fear. It was him and his webcam unshaven no frills no prepared speech...coking with tears at times he spoke about everyone has the righted to love. Gay bi straight...please seek an adult, your mom, a doctor...even if its a stranger...etc
So, my heart broke. Todays kids are a lot more cruel I think. There are rap songs about faggots being killed...murder. violence is so accessible to the impressionable minds of the youth. They are too wise too young. Often kids have minimal supervision and its not the parents fault...nobody can afford kids cars homes provisions food medical insurance taxes...etc....in what is as todays economy. There are greedy hoarding illegal criminals that we pay for their posh life. The poor and middle class are overworked poverty level people. Hard working people with families to support feed...and love. Very non frills...like No Disney trips. I saw it in action working for a major airline. They will give away the reserved seats of a family that worked since before the kids birth to save enough for a 5 day vacation to Disney connecting thru 3 stops before Orlando/Disney...and they are lied to saying the plane or the configuration of this aircraft and seating has changed...you are being put on a standby list and we will try to get you there...the kids eyes are so sad...but the excitement and eyes shiny with pride for this moment change in the parents...mostly the Dads. I am on a leave from there for my freelance and working as a guest on my best friends show. So, now there is a slew of it gets better videos for the bullied suicidal kids. It it pretty much started with a guy in the UK with 2 daughters and lovely wife. He is humble. He has a Huuuuuuge Gay fanbase and he totally lives it...he flirts with them and often does photos in his mighty whites that are sold to support causes like HIV AIDS funding for research and protection and nourishment and homes for people in this category...and others.
My friend and I did ours...and its there on video sights like youtube and

I know. After my Mom passed away(then I had no one to watch him - and I would never kennel him), I planned every vacation around pet friendly hotels, locations, etc... What a pain! But he was my child. I spent 15K on his cancer treatments, and while I don't regret a penny, I just don't want to go through that again.

So, I just hope we all do a little extra for someone that wants nothing but the same as you have...I am partnered with my guy for 8 or 9 years....gay bullying affected so many and I wasn't aware of homosexual tendencies in myself until my mid 20s.
Hey, its bad enough to go through puberty and the opening of Pandora Box of sexual attraction, persuasion, and just plain horny teens...but, if you find yourself getting totally crazy over another dude...you think you're short circuiting let alone the sudden danger, fear, abuse and humiliation for that part of you that you can't control. So, the story I worked on and my nemesis is Michele Bachmann...her cruelty and her and her husbands gay agenda...or gay fetish. I am not going to get up into pages of her lies and crimes. This quote made by Michele Bachmann should sum her up..."and Melissa Etheridge has cancer now. That's too bad. But, this is a time for her to reflect on her sinful lifestyle and sinful ways...and she should thank God for giving her this chance..."
The highest gay/bully suicide rate among teens is ironically in the district she represents. She has been called upon to help remedy this situation. Her response was well, what are we going to do...hold their hands? What about after graduation? Hold their hands? So, she like Scott Brown didn't participate in any causes for the civil rights of the Constitutionally protected equality...just as they, the elected officials are protected by. Shame on them. You know, it was only the 1940s that People were burned alive in world war 2. We never learn...us, the most evolved and blessed as human beings. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/CZRmKglxj4c" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Finally, the guy that I find so...ahem, attractive. Yeah, attractive (yeah, right...try lust) Mr Ben Cohen. The most loving hero of late.

My first gay relationship was in my mid 20s. I was an actor/cologne and the supposed "straight wear" store in all the malls...over priced, homoerotic advertisiments of shirtless and revealing wrinkled clothes...oh, well.
I was bartending in a short walk from where I had come to live in Berverly Hills...I'm saying this because the residents/neighbors etc..were so cruel...I should have lived in South Central LA...during the riots...the people would have been nicer to me there.

Preach what you practice you say? You want Christians to suspend
their beliefs and accept or believe that homosexuality is not sin. It's
like saying just lie to me and we can be friends.
Throwing a blanket over a whole movement like the Tea Party is a
bit hypocritical don't you think? In every group there are certainly
lunatics, and I imagine the Tea Party is no exception. But if someone
would have wrote what you did about Christ Our Lord and replaced
the words Tea Party with homosexuals, how would you feel?
Just because many Christians believe that homosexuality is a sin
doesn't mean they hate homosexuals. Neither should they condone
bullying. I certainly don't.
What did Christ say to the woman caught in the act of adultery?
Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more. He didn't
say it's okay to sin. He responded to her with love and kindness.
He protected her from the accusers and gave her correction in
the most loving way.

You hit on so many things I agree with. I've never understood the whole Pride Parade thing, those people dressed in next to nothing parading around all lewd does NOT represent the majority of gay people and how we live and conduct ourselves. And it gives other people a false image of gays, it's no wonder some still throw rocks at us. Gays need to represent all of us in the correct way and our private lifestyles are as varied as those of heterosexuals. Being gay is not all about sex like this parade portrays.

Blah. I'm of two minds about this "gay people are like everybody else" crap. On one hand, yes, we're just people; but on the other hand, as vanilla as I am, my experiences as a gay man have led me to view the world in a fundamentally different way than how straight people do. Anyone who knows me knows that I do not "go along to get along" and I don't advocate groveling at the feet of heteros for a few basic rights. I won't put on a monkey suit and pretend to be "respectable" so straights will feel comfortable. Homophobia is a heterosexual problem; they're the ones who should be forced to deal with their problem. Bigots don't hate you because you're flamboyant; they hate you because of who you are. They won't stop hating you because you pander to them and try to act "normal."
As boring as I am, I'd feel 1000% more comfortable at a gay pride parade with drag queens and guys in leather chaps than I would at a book club meeting (or whatever) full of straight people.

I normally try not to touch religion with a ten-foot pole, and to be honest, I really couldn't care less whether one chooses to worship some Birkenstock-wearing surfer dude in the sky, a golden calf or some bald ten-yearold wearing an orange robe. I really could not care less... as long as they keep it to themselves. That being said...
Can you please explain to me the Christian obsession with homosexuality? There is not a single mention of it in the New Testament. Jesus Christ never officially issued a press release on the matter. The only vague references to homosexuality are in the Old Testament, alongside such equally "abominable" acts such as adultery, eating shellfish, divorce, wearing different fabrics, having sex with menstruating females, etc. And one should keep in mind that these decidedly arbitrary/arcane "rules" from Leviticus were written at a time when the Jews were exiled, roaming the desert, and probably needed certain rituals in order to maintain health, hygiene, morale, and civil rule among the tribe. It seems improbable that these rules were meant to be adhered to in perpetuity. And clearly modern "Christianity" has essentially dispelled with all of these tenets except for the one about men lying with men. So why is that one passage still upheld as some kind of golden rule while the rest are considered irrelevant?
Just because many Christians believe that homosexuality is a sin
doesn't mean they hate homosexuals. Neither should they condone
bullying. I certainly don't.
That whole "love the sinner, hate the sin" line? Bulls**t. Again, Christians are free to believe whatever they want to believe, but they cross the line when they spread lies about GLBT and actively work towards denigrating and robbing them of their humanity in the halls of congress as well as abroad. It's no accident that Uganda has taken such a hardline stance about criminalizing/penalizing gays. If Christians want the world to more closely adhere to the scripture of Leviticus, they should also be out there picketing Red Lobster and working to illegalize the existence of divorce attorneys. When GLBT are singled out as "deviants," this is not "love." After all, wasn't it Jesus who said "He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone." Whatever happened to Jesus' teachings about tolerance and sympathy for the downtrodden? Oops... I guess most Christians were asleep during that sermon.
What did Christ say to the woman caught in the act of adultery?
Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more. He didn't
say it's okay to sin. He responded to her with love and kindness.
He protected her from the accusers and gave her correction in
the most loving way
Great. You just equated adultery with being gay. Nice going! I am sure you have won over many new admirers on the Ledge. I think your ability to reason and think critically speaks for itself. Have a nice day. :wavey:

Jesus was always questioning authorites in the New Testament who were sticking to the old ways. He was a rebel.

HejiraNYC,
I don't think it's obsessed over more than some other sins. Though
I suppose it's natural to think like that if it concerns you. In that, we
are all guilty.
It's in the New Testament too. If one cares to look, for example:
Romans 1 : 27, 28
Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman,
burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing
what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their
error which was due.
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God
gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not
fitting...
And on winning over admirers on the Ledge, at least those
who read this will know that I will tell the truth on these most
serious matters even if it hurts me here.
Markolas,
If you choose to not be friends with me I understand.
Though it saddens me.

Whilst I am in full support of people adhering to their own faiths and spiritual practices, I can't help but find it disgusting that an out of date scripture can be used as fully factual evidence in support of a negative judgement. Being homosexual is not a sin, for the same reason heterosexuality isn't either. If God is who you choose to support, then the faith ought to be placed in the fact that it is also understood that he is infallible. He made people in his own image. So what is saying that a perfectly natural thing such as homosexuality is a sin? Is it saying that God made a mistake? Because that's negating your own belief, by accusing God of not being as infallible as scripture dictates. The holy scriptures were created by man, thus they were open to the mistakes and the misjudgements that man is prone to making. Over thousands of years of reproduction, corruptions and false information is bound to have crept in according to those who are reproducing the document at the time. You can't tell me that it has remained word for word perfect in all this time. And that all who chose to add to it did so honestly. And besides, the times have moved on. Things have changed and the book is no longer as valid as it once was. The scriptures are no better than fables, in my opinion. Have faith in God if you wish, not this book of rules that pretty much contradicts everything it tells you to do and believe anyway. Believe in your own moral code. Which should tell you that all men and women are equal and should be created and judged as such. It's their negative actions; the taking of lives, the corruption of innocents, the disrespect of those they deem on a lesser plain than they themselves, that are reasons to judge. Not how they choose to love.

I do not come here to be beaten over the head with the Bible - and yes, what it says about gay people is incredibly bigoted and insulting. If you continue to quote this hateful bile at me, I do hope you are banned. As for my part, I will now put you on ignore so I don't have to read it anymore.
I'm really not sure what you expect from me after you quote scripture attacking my relationship as "shameful, unnatural, and debased." Reminds me of my sister-in-law, who sent me an e-mail informing that I am "what the Bible calls a sodomite" (her exact words). She and I are no longer on speaking terms, suffice it to say.
But oh, it's all said out of Christian "love," of course. Well, I'm not in need of that kind of "love," so I'm gonna give it right back to you and send you on your merry way.

Now in all honesty, I don't need anything from him and I think that's great he can spend his money as such (and also that he's flying to mom's house from Sweden to be with them). But an ever so small part of me can't help but be just a tiny bit curious as to why he said he wasn't sending me a gift for Christmas because he didn't have the money. My brother and I have a great bond, so when I heard that I just went

HejiraNYC,

 Are you kidding? Other than abortion, there is no bigger obsession amongst the religious reich. The 2004 reelection of GWB was pretty much a referendum on gay civil rights amongst the ignorant masses in the Bible Belt. Last time I checked, there have been no efforts to demonize/persecute people who lie, back talk to their parents or wear poly/cotton blends. Again, 100% pure bulls**t.
It's in the New Testament too. If one cares to look, for example:
Romans 1 : 27, 28
[I]Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman,
burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing
what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their
error which was due.
For one thing, this is 100% pure fiction in my opinion. Secondly, just humoring the utter inanity of this tome for a nanosecond, at face value, this could be interpreted a gazillion different ways. There are many kinds of "lust." It could be a bro-mance type of lust. Or the kind of lust associated with jealousy or envy. To me, men who are obsessed with Sunday football seem filled with a kind of "lust" for the football players (while abandoning their wives for the moment). Why is it automatically assumed that they're boning one another? And what is the biblical "natural use of the woman" anyway? Is the "natural use" of a woman purely about fornicating? What about the woman's maternal instinct? What about the feminine traits associated with an appreciation for art and culture? In the context of this chapter of the bible, it makes no sense for Paul to be going "blah blah blah blah gay sex bad blah blah blah." The chapter is about questioning faith in God and not following his word. Period. And if you read onto the rest of Chapter 1 of Romans...
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
...he holds all kinds of other stuff in equal death-worthy regard. Yet, I don't see Christians placing referendums against tabloids, Wall Street and Mark Zuckerberg on the ballot.
And on winning over admirers on the Ledge, at least those
who read this will know that I will tell the truth on these most
serious matters even if it hurts me here.
The "truth" here is that you really need to keep your inflammatory, hateful, sadly misinformed opinions to yourself.
Oh, BTW, Romans 2:1: "you who judge practice the same things."

In my humble opinion, unless you are Melania Trump, there is no reason someone should be spending $1000 on a pair of earrings. It's a sad misappropriation of money. Accordingly, I would truly believe him when he says he has no money to buy you a gift- he's probably that lacking in fiscal management skills. Don't get me wrong- nice gifts are great to give... if you can comfortably afford them. I suspect your mother could care less about the earrings; she's probably much more excited about him flying home for Christmas.

Sure my stomach got a little bigger and my face is a lil rounder...but its not that noticeable...and it really pissed me off...I didnt tell him tho because if I did I would have started crying...so I held it in and was quiet pretty much the whole time...We ended the conversation on a "good note" but then I started thinking about everything he said and it started eating at me inside so I called Ashley's mom(shes like my 2nd mom lol) and I vented to her and started bawling my eyes out..saying I try and loose weight but its not that easy and keeping track of what I eat isnt easy either but I try...and she said hes an asshole and I should distance myself from him a little bit and when he asks where Ive been just tell him that out last conversation made me angry and uncomfortable

If it's any comfort at all, they MEAN well. Really, and sometimes it can be a great motivator(which was what happened in my case). I had let myself go for years. While I'm 5"10", I'm actually pretty small boned().....really though....everyone thought for years, that I was a pretty big guy.....ANYWAY, 4+ years ago, I was up to 215, and my aunt(who pretty much says whatever is on her mind) just told me how fat I was getting, and that I really needed to do something about it.
Did it hurt my feelings? Absolutely.
But did I do something about it? Absolutely. Her telling me how fat I had gotten, WAS the motivation that I needed, to put my life back in order. SERIOUSLY. She WAS rude for saying it, but I've thanked her 100 times!!!
I lost 80 lbs, and have kept all but 10, off. But more than just the weight....really....the weight loss gave me a new lease on life!!! I had given up on life, and love....it was over for me...and now, I've seriously become the best ME that I've ever been(NO, not because of the weight, but what the weight represented to me.....just giving up, not caring what I looked like, etc....). iamnotafraid, you know I like you a lot. I can't sit here and read that crap though. I spent my entire secondary education at a Catholic School being taught that my sexuality and some of my feminist beliefs were wrong, sinful etc etc. For a child to be indoctrinated like that, I feel, is more sinful than anything written in the Bible.
The sole reason I won't tell my family (when I should be able to, just as my sister can say "ooh mum meet my new boyfriend, he's lovely!") is because of the things my grandma has been taught, from the Bible. If anyone turned out to be untrustworthy and told her, I'd never see her again. She'd disown me. My own Grandmother. I'm not putting myself through that. But it's not her that I blame because I know she's a loving, caring person who hates the thought of upsetting her grandchildren. I blame religion.
There should be another definition of love. "I love you but only because I want to "make you better"".

It's too bad that your dad is implying that only 'Tall, skinny, and pretty girls deserve jobs'! You've posted lots of pictures of your work. It's really good and that is what salons should be concerned with.
Parents should be the ones to build their child up, not tear them down. I've read many of your posts over the years. I can say that you are a very good, caring person and that your dad should be very happy to have a daughter like you!!

Me, too! Not for James Spader, tho. Chris Meloni? Hell yes!

I had to google Chris Meloni to see what he looked like. I can see why others would, but he has thing thing where his neck is the same width as his head. That I can't really get on with. It can be hidden with longer hair, but his style isn't very forgiving. You can keep him as long as I get to keep Rupert Everett, James Spader and Alan Rickman

James Spader for me over Chris Meloni. Although neither of them are much older than myself so hardly an "older man" thing going on there although in my younger days I did have quite a thing for William Devane.

I guess its about time I get myself back into shape....
I think family just feel comfortable saying to you in a loving, concerned way, something about your weight. And they most likely mean well always. I know if I saw a family member gradually putting on pounds I'd be concerned more than anything for them, asking them maybe to be checked out for underlying causes such as thyroid or something. I don't think anyone wants to pack on 50 lbs or more and then suddenly come to realize hey, I'm fat. I think we all would rather address the issue before it started happening sooner rather than later on.
I was sick for 2 days in the hospital and have been 155 pounds no matter how much or how little I eat, and have been this set weight naturally for the past 15 years but I had dropped to 139 and didn't even know it until I was weighed there. That was in August and I'm now back to 151 about where I always was. My doctor had checked for thyroid and other issues and all that was fine. I guess stress or an illness can cause us to lose weight.

As far as what others believe or religion, you can't argue with people or even attempt to reason with them or come to an understanding. I think we are all put here to be the people we are, not live lies. I think we have a very understanding, all loving God. Why some want you to fear him, I don't know. He's warmth and light and loving. And nothing to fear I don't believe. This fear is the very thing that keeps many out of a church and away from others preaching their dislike and hate and that is not what God was ever about.

Don't let him get you down. You deserve better than the treatment he is giving you!
Its not like the interviews Ive been on havent seen what I do...because after you meet the people you do a 2nd interview where you do a wash, cut and blow dry...and on one I did highlights and those are my specialty....So its not like that dont see what I do...=\

I recall my Dad and I having an argument once in 1999... my parents had been divorced for about a year and I was living with him and finishing school. All I remember is that we were arguing and I went to my room... he said "What exactly is your problem?" and I said "YOU'RE my problem!" and he literally turned around and walked out. I always felt bad about saying that to him, but I think after that it changed the way he dealt with me. And of course now that he's gone altogether I regret that moments like that even came between us. But yeah... the point is definitely don't let that one slide otherwise you might be hurt over it and your relationship with him may suffer.

I must start by saying everyone is entitled to their core belief...their heart or heart feelings...and to see something as a "sin" or as "evil" is fine...if you can live with that.
I also want to say that I was on my phone trying to write that...spell check and the difficulty to track back on what you are posting for reference...etc...sometimes you can't get back to where you were...
The point I was trying to make about religion, Catholic, The bible...etc..
People in the tea party as well as all the current GOP presidential runners...and the worst being Michele Bachmann AND Rick Perry. These people cling to the esoteric at best verses of The Old Testament...Leviticus, Sodom and Gomorrah... etc.. You give me those verses, translated from Aramaic (the language of the people and Jesus of that time period) and the translation and bias throughout the years...up until today...bibles or guide books for a custom made, and tailor fit to meet the needs of someones agenda.
I'm am a Christian...I go to a Catholic church...and a nun and a miracle year later...a priest...took away the deep seated guilt and pain that was taught by people such as Michele Bachmann, Mike Huckabee, modern day Evangelicals...etc...
My grandmother taught me as it really is. The true essence of what life and love and God was all about. I grew up with her due to family politics...and the simplest words and explanations took me 20 years to figure out. The whole notion of humans complicating simplicity and being the only ones that get in our way...is ourselves.
I wasn't writing or preaching religion...more so painting a picture of myself...and the irony of it all.
Civil Rights are civil rights. Sexuality has nothing to due with equality any more than liking the music of Stevie Nicks. Oh, I don't qualify as an equal because of what??? Some person running for president says, being gay is a sin and it is personal bondage? "And another makes a commercial equating me as a freak show out to ruin the people in a "real" marriage.
It makes me sad. Though, not for me...but, for them...they can't see past their own hate. Do they hurt me? Hardly. Sometimes I get a wince of pain...but, it's more so that I pity them.
Jesus only referred to the old testament regardign commandments twice.
Love God
Love One another.
Love your neighbors as yourselves.
He asked the woman accused of adultery, Where are your accusers? Has no one condemned you?, and the woman answered, No one, Lord. Jesus told her, Neither do I condemn you; from now on, sin no more.
In point of fact, adultery is a sin because it deeply injures a loved one, it breaks the bonds of trust so essential to the deepest of all human relations, and it leads to the breakdown of relationships. And you dont need the Bible to understand this simple fact. Adultery as a sin is an evolved characteristic of our species.
Jesus condemned not a single person. Not the rich, not the poor, not those with disease...and certainly not the ones that were outcast from society by political figures of the day. Those being The Pharasies...those being the ones that ultimately murdered Jesus. The greatest peacemaker ever known. In fact...it was he that reached out to those most ostracized and led an example of love, asking who among the people are so above God And without "sin"...cast the first stone. No one did.
This was the first recorded example...a story about a man so long ago...that started the largest movement of love...but, alas...it is his people that act as if above Jesus. Casting judgement, condemning many people often to death...and all wearing the label, Christian....
It's sad that these same people are often the subjects of their judgement of sin...and the completely disregard, CHRIST...in CHRISTian.
That is the point I am trying to get accross...it's not Catholic...it's not religous...it is what we as the most evolved of the species...the most gifted.
It is a story about love...and about how some people claim that I have the "wrong' kind of love...and they don't even know me.
I'm sorry for hurting anybody here...I like you guys...believe me it has nothing to do with me pushing my agenda on anyone...
as I said, these are my opinions...
And your opinons don't change my feelings of love and kindness for you...for not sharing the same ideas, ideals...
Thank you everybody for everything.

I get rather irritated at this notion that all movements/ideals/beliefs are morally equal. They are not. The Tea Party and the gay rights movement are not morally equivalent. I do not have to respect people who want to see me locked up in jail (and make no mistake, if Rick Santorum had his way, I would be in prison, along with every other gay person in this country) in order to gain the "privilege" to speak up for myself and my rights.
The Tea Party and the "protect marriage from the homos" movements are vile hatemongers; gay people fighting for our civil rights are not.

Let me also say that I don't have issues with religion per se. I'm a Buddhist (not a very good one lately, but that's beside the point). I've studied a variety of metaphysical and spiritual disciplines. I have major issues with certain fundamentalist strains of particular religions (namely, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism) and I think they cause most of the world's problems. Blind, immovable, reactionary adherence to scriptures written thousands of years ago is not spirituality or religion; it's bigotry - or probably more accurately, an excuse for bigotry.

I think to follow a faith wholeheartedly means you have to be immovable in some instances. The choice you make with your faith as a Christian means you can't believe in Christ's life and death, but not believe in his resurrection. (Well I don't know maybe you can believe that - but I don't think it would be a testimony of faith).
I also think your definition of bigotry is a tad skewed. It's perfectly okay to be blind and immovable in your faith... as long as you aren't violent, verbally hostile, or hurtful in any way to those who believe differently than yourself. That's bigotry. There's a sea of difference between your typical Christian and someone like Fred Phelps, who definitely uses his faith as such.

I think you missed my point entirely. I wasn't talking about faith. I was talking about books written by iron age cultures being taken as unchanging literal truth thousands of years later. People who do that tend to not play well with others (to put it mildly).

I've never been able to get along with juvenile comedy, even when I was a juvenile. The traditional "dick joke" sense of humour just makes me feel uncomfortable. Maybe because I have a pretty conservative father, and some of his traits have rubbed off on me too. I prefer subtle and intelligent humour. I love programs like Black Books, Porridge and Spaced for that. You have to work a bit for the amusement, which I prefer.

So I got into my car today to go to work

not used
my grandmother bought it BRAND new in 2008. She gave it to me last December when she moved in with my mom up here in leominster. She wouldnt be driving here since she probably wouldnt know her way around and probably would forget
So she lets me drive her car. I get oil changes when it needs it, I put gas in it all the time, I keep total upkeep on the car.
So I have NO IDEA why my car wont start. The lights work and the horn
but when I turn the key it makes the sound like its about it start but doesnt actually start. I called my uncle(who is my mechanic) and he said its either the battery or the key. So tomorrow I am going to try and jump start my car to see if its the battery. If not, Ill drive to my moms house to get my Grams spare key
and by Ill drive i mean my friend will drive me because Id have no other ride lol
My mom cant drive til like April
because of her siezure she cant drive for 6 months so she got rid of her car.
So that is my dilemma

It's the battery. Car batteries only last about 3 years (4 if you're *really* lucky). And when batteries go, they just go very suddenly. Cold weather really zaps them too, and is usually what pushes them over the edge. Once you've gotten your car jumped, go to an auto parts store (such as Autozone, Advance, Napa, etc). They'll run a test on on your battery while it's still in the car, and if the battery needs replacing, they'll do it for you at no additional cost. :)

Yes. Herniated disc L4 and L5.
I couldn't imagine strapping a

it's bad. That pain will humble

Oh, do I ever. Lumbar spinal fusion at age 10 due to Spondylosisthesis. Dove into a 4ft pool a year later and cracked some vertebrae in my upper back. Neck fusion in 1998.
Now I have two bulging discs (though they cause no problems), spinal stenosis, and advanced arthritis right above my lumbar fusion. I just had my first (and hopefully last) course of epidural steroid injections. I had suffered from back pain my entire life.
If you're suffering now, you have my sympathy.

Thanks...I tried my spare key...my uncle said maybe its the "key program" or something...I didnt have time to jump my car today since I was out doing errands. So tomorrow I'm going to...I have to call my uncle cuz hes my mechanic

L4-L5 here too :wavey: it is very humbling. at its worst, i was on my hands and knees crawling to the bathroom. to read Neale has been dealing with this since the beginning of the SWS tour, shows what a loyal and dedicated trouper he is for getting through what he could for the band. how is your back doing??

jannie, I had no idea. my bro broke his neck diving into a pool at 17. for me, the final straws on my back were falling in a las vegas bathtub, and then lifting what amounted to the weight of a bathtub (my neice's suitcase) high into an SUV. i was more worried about the tub bruise on my arm. but, by the third day, I was on the floor. i have had three epidural injections -- first one lasted three months, second one 1.5 years and this one last one is going on 2.5 years. this will probably catch up with me at some point, but I don't want to have surgery and working everything I can (injections, yoga, etc) to get through.

BTFLCHLD,
I've had those herniated discs for about 20 years now.
As you probably know sometimes it's worse than others.
And when it's bad I've did the crawling thing too.
Sorry to hear you have the condition too.
Though I don't travel, I imagine that would have been
very hard on Neale. Possibly worse than shouldering
those guitars. So I'm like you I completely understand
him not being able to tour. Anyone who's had that pain
would understand. Though I suppose we disagree if ever
so slightly on how Lindsey and management handled the
situation.
JannieC, sorry to hear about your back/neck problems.

I had a drunk do that the other day in the liquor store. I ran in for a bottle of wine & he was talking to himself, buying a bottle of butterscotch schnapps, standing in line like 6 inches away from me. Barf. I didn't want to argue with a drunk (I assumed that would NOT go well) so I just made sure he didn't actually make any physical contact with me & got the hell out of there.

For the past 2 weekends, the pub where I work has been having party nights, on which one member of waiting on staff has to stay on until 1am or so. Both Saturdays this has been me. Last week, I found myself eating a chinese that we'd had delivered to the pub while sitting on a table, in sweets and starters, at midnight with the landlord's wife having a really deep conversation.
This weekend, I did the dance to Making Your Mind Up in the kitchen.

reviews are important. thought about staying at a hotel until I came upon this gag-worthy review:
I came back to my room after a full day of meetings (was at the property for a conference), ready to relax for a few minutes before dinner. I decided to have a glass of wine and since there were no wine glasses (or wine opener) in the room, I was forced to go into the bathroom to use a small, (stained) water glass. I reached for the glass, and out of the corner of my eye I saw (in horror) that there was a long, black, wiry pubic hair hanging precariously from the side of my mouth guard (a device worn while sleeping to avoid teeth grinding, etc.).
I was paralyzed by what I'd seen. How the HELL could a pubic hair have found its way onto my mouth guard?? It certainly wasn't mine (not to get graphic, but not the right color or texture) and I was absolutely horrified. I turned to grab some toilet paper and it was at that moment I noticed my toilet seat was in the upright position, only I was traveling alone and would have never put the seat up. There were visible urine drops on the bottom of the seat, a sure indicator that a man had indeed used my toilet - likely minutes before I got back to the room!
I walked out of the bathroom and only then noticed the muddy footprints leading from the front door of my room into the bathroom. I immediately checked my shoes. Clean.
I phoned housecleaning and told them what had happened. I was clearly shaken up and was looking for some kind of an explanation. The woman on the phone (Irina) told me that she was sorry (unconvincingly) and would have someone come out to clean the room. I asked that she please send bleach. When housecleaning showed up with soap and Windex, I said that would not make me feel better about putting my mouth guard in my mouth. After a few more people showed up to offer me floor cleaner and hot water I was finally delivered Clorox wipes. Probably not meant to be used orally, but I was happier to have that in my mouth than what I was currently facing.
Once I snapped a few pics (always get a photo of the crime scene), and the clean-up was complete, I started to think about the facts. I had seen the cleaning woman mop my floor and I watched as she would walk backwards out of the room, mopping her footprints as she exited. Clearly, housecleaning was not the culprit here. The pieces started coming together. Housecleaning was not responsible for what I found in my room, but someone working for the hotel certainly was because they had a skeleton key.
It became obvious that while I was out of my room that day, a man working the grounds (muddy large shoe prints) had to urinate and instead of driving back to the employee break room (or facilities), this man let himself into my room, leaving muddy footprints as evidence, lifted my toilet seat to urinate (leaving drops of urine behind and the seat up) and then presumably washed his hands but in the process of leaning over my toiletries, inadvertently dropped his pubic hair on my mouth guard (the coup de grāce).

I want to go to New Zealand so bad. I have the urge to not go to university next summer and go travelling isntead but it will mean going to uni the year after and then having to pay £9,000 a year instead of £3,000.

New Zealand is beautiful. I went travelling after university. I worked for a year after graduation and saved every penny I could, and then went away for close to a year. Had such a brilliant time. NZ was definitely one of my favourite places!

The way this woman ranted about a stray hair (I'm not sure how she could have conclusively attributed it to the pubic region!), you would think she was talking about a flask of anthrax. It's just hair. Soak the goddang mouthguard in some hot water and be done with it. Let it go. Don't get me wrong- I would have definitely complained to the hotel about the intrusion and the mess. But I don't think it merited a 1000-word Nancy Drew novella.
It was clearly an isolated incident, and said perpetrator was probably let go. This could have happened just about anywhere.

That's what I was thinking too. And if so, forget wipes and drop those suckers in some liquid bleach! It's a shame you have to check your hotel room mattress and seams for bed bugs and the like today, but be careful with those chemical sprays and ingesting those too which can be harmful.

You should definitely go if you have the opportunity. It made more sense for me to go once I had graduated as I had more time to save up.
I went with a friend. We went to 10 countries - NZ, Aus, all over SE Asia, Fiji, India etc. We met so many people out there. Literally everywhere you go you meet someone new. If I were to do it again, I wouldn't be afraid to go solo - so many people do and they just link up with people who are travelling the same route. Sadly though, I don't think I'll be travelling again for awhile yet. Maybe once I've finished my teacher training. I have the travel bug now!

I read a news story today that really touched my heart. It was about people anonymously paying off the layaway purchases of complete strangers. I just think that is so awesome! I love the idea of "paying it forward" and was so happy to read this because I've seen more people being greedy instead of generous this holiday season.
Apparently this has happened in stores all of the US recently and it happened kind of close to where I live. Here's the story if anyone wants to check it out.

My American friend has some interesting thoughts on depression. She seems to think it's something people with the disorder can help and it's just sheer laziness that prevents them from fixing it. She thinks it's the sufferer's fault for "not maintaining a positive attitude", and that's the only contributing factor.
I think I'm going off of this woman.

Well, I can't say that I haven't consider your friend's position....I'm often AMAZED, at how many people I know, who are on depression meds. Several years ago, my close high school friends got together, for a reunion dinner of sorts. After a few drinks, someone brought up depression meds.....out of about 12 of us, 9 were on depression meds. Does 75% not seem a high percentage??? My best friend from high school, just looked at each other, like "what is wrong with these people?"
And now, it seems like MOST of my friends are on them, or have been on them. I guess I just don't understand what keeps people from being happy. I mean, things in my life suck, but do you know what? The good outweighs the suck! I'm in an extremely challenging relationship, and often feel neglected, so that part of my life sucks, but hey, everything else is cruising along nicely for me, so I just get over it, and take the good parts of the relationship, when they're available.
Anyway, growing up, when I'd tell my Mom that I was feeling depressed, she's just say, "David, get the hell over it. A lot of people have things a lot worse than you do." So I think I did just learn to get over it...to take the good things, and go with those.
Please don't attack me, for saying that "I can just get over it". I'm just saying that I think we are responsible for making our own happiness. Maybe everyone can't do that. But I can.:sorry:

Tech question.....so I've never had a webcam on a computer, but I just bought one(Krogers had them marked down on clearance, 66% off!). So I've installed the software, and can see myself.....
Okay, I'm feeling very tech challenged now....
WHO can see me, and how do I have a webcam conversation?
Is that like a Skype thing?
How do I turn it on and off, or is it always on, if I'm on Skype or something?

Skype is the best video conferencing application I've used. It's totally hands free talk, and the video is pretty decent streaming quality.
Regarding how the program works: You have to approve friends for them to be able to see you online, then you have to approve those people to be able to watch your cam when you're actually online. So it's not like someone can just watch your cam anytime without your knowledge. :)

Clinical depression and what you've just described have nothing in common. Asking a person with depression to get over it is like asking someone with heart disease to do the same.
I'm glad you have been able to stay positive in spite of negative things here and there. That's a great attitude to have.

I'm with you David - especially your last paragraph!
Too many people I think say they are depressed when they are simply feeling a bit down - that's when it's up to them to pull themselves out of it!
A few people know about the terrible year I've had but I haven't let it get the better of me and I've been determined not to lose my wacky sense of humour.
However, feeling low and diagnosed clinical depression are two entirely different things - these poor people are unable to just "pull themselves together" as they need proper care and medication.
But I'd like to bet too many people are on meds that really shouldn't be or don't actually need to be!

Some people know about my struggles with clinical depression and self harm over the years. I can't help but feel hurt by some of the comments being bandied around in this thread. I feel like I'm just faking it and that I'm expected to be able to help how low I can get. It's easy to say from a more or less positive feeling that "you can just pick yourself up and get on with it". But only when you're THAT low can you really understand how hard it is to even think about doing that. I understand that you've had a hard year. I really do. So have I. But you're a lot stronger than me. I know this. I wish I was like you. I really do. I've had to face counselling, the prospect of being put on medication (Which I flatly refused in favour of herbal remedies because I don't want to spend my life drugged up and fu**ed up) and my struggles with self harm alone because I just know that my friends and family just wouldn't understand. I'm not going to say anything else on the matter because this whole conversation is upsetting me and I'm very sorry I even brought it up.

Jannie, do you know the percentage of U.S. adults, who are on depression meds? I don't, but I get the feeling the number would be alarmingly high.
It is high. Too high. People are too quick to take a pill & hope it fixes them. Your first paragraph was very telling - you all went out for a few drinks. DRINKS. Alcohol is a depressant. That certainly isn't going to help a person, whether they are truly depressed or not. But most people who consider themselves depressed don't want to stop drinking, change their diet, take vitamins, exercise, try light therapy, try counseling, try meditation, try yoga, etc. Too much work. Why bother when I can pop a pill & hope for the best. Same for Type II diabetes caused by obesity - want to eat right & be more active, or just pop a pill & continue to eat garbage & sit around?
Too many people I think say they are depressed when they are simply feeling a bit down - that's when it's up to them to pull themselves out of it!
A few people know about the terrible year I've had but I haven't let it get the better of me and I've been determined not to lose my wacky sense of humour.
However, feeling low and diagnosed clinical depression are two entirely different things - these poor people are unable to just "pull themselves together" as they need proper care and medication.
But I'd like to bet too many people are on meds that really shouldn't be or don't actually need to be!
Well put.
I'm so pleased, I finally got the right kind of scrapbook for the project me and Charly are doing, and now I'm off back into town to get some really pretty things to go into it. I'm more excited to scrapbook than I am for Christmas.
I love scrapbooking. It's just too time consuming for me to do these days. :(
I wish I hadn't even opened my mouth now. Feeling about two inches tall, here.
Why? Nobody's saying your friend isn't an idiot. Just that there's a difference between clinical depression & having the blues. You're totally correct that someone who is truly depressed has a chemical imbalance that is actually preventing them from wanting to do...well, anything. Eat, bathe, work, LIVE. Meds may be absolutely necessary. But way too many people are on anti-depressants (in the U.S. anyway) who probably don't really need them.
BTW - is this your American friend who couldn't figure out why you didn't celebrate Thanksgiving? If so, why are you still talking to him/her?

But that's what I was trying to say Bee - clinical depression is a real diagnosed condition and I know full well how hard it can be for you.
You are a lot stronger than you give yourself credit for - your fantastic sense of humour and irony help you through a lot I think!! And your strong work ethic! And your compassion for others less fortunate than yourself!
I'm not stronger than you - it's just that I don't suffer from depression. So when something terrible happens I just happen to be one of the lucky ones who can pull myself up again.
Like I said, there's a huge difference between feeling "down" and struggling with real depression and anxiety - I would never be so insensitive to say to someone who is suffering "pull yourself together" and I do understand how hard it must be sometimes.
I truly hope nobody misunderstood what I said in my last post on here!

^^^ I agree completely!
I remember the last time this subject came up, about a year ago, the sh*t hit the fan. People are so sensitive about this subject. No offense was intended by anyone, but if we can't state our opinion, it's not really a forum, is it?
Again, NO OFFENSE. We should be able to discuss it, without people getting offended, shouldn't we?

Yes, people always want the easy way out. I hate pills, and hate taking pills. Always have. I'd make a terrible drug addict! Because I hate needles even more!
And in my opinion, food is the most addictive thing there is. I spent 20 years of my life, addicted to food. And CRAPPY food at that. I literally count getting off the crappy food addiction train, as the best thing I've ever done in my life. Better than money, big house, all of it. Getting healthy, and eating healthy. Feeling healthy = priceless!

But McDonalds is so tasty, and cheap, and easy! I'm sure you probably don't have Rally's(or Checkers = same thing) over there. But that was my real weakness. I'm a Rally's WHORE! So good and greasy!!!!!
And I've not had it since August, 2009.:(:(:( RIP, fat, grease eating Homie.
I really don't miss it, anymore. Well, I DO miss that TASTE, but not the side effects!

Thanks. I'm just a Nazi, with rules for myself. I just made my mind up, that I no longer eat crap. The best side effect was my high cholesterol (266) dropped 93 points. From nothing, other than the weight loss. Blood pressure dropped too! My doctor said, "everything I've been seeing you for, and threatening medications for, are fixed! Your numbers are great, now. I don't approve of the way you lost it, but you fixed the problems!"
But keep up the good work!

love skype!!

It's so weird, that a chain would go by two different names. It's Rally's here, but it's Checkers in Nashville. Wouldn't ONE brand name be more successful?

The two chains merged....still you'd think one name would cut costs....

I'm so excited.
Dinner at my wino(that's a compliment, coming from me) cousin's house tonight.
Later, party with my friends.
Tomorrow, dinner with my extended family, then
six days in my beautiful home away from home, Nashvegas!:blob1:
Then come back New Year's Eve, for an epic party at my friend's house(he throws the best parties...mine can't hold a candle to his....there's a big balloon drop, and the whole nine yards!).
The next 8 days better hold on for dear life, because I'm putting every camera in sight, to the Christine McVie test! (never photographed without a beverage in hand!):lol::lol:

Thanks, will do. I'm driving to Nashville tomorrow evening, after the day with my family. I was worried about having nothing to do tomorrow night, sitting all alone in my hotel, but just found out the bars are open, with bands playing(here in Indiana, it's a law, that they can't be open on Christmas)! I am so incredibly jealous... Barcelona is my dream vacation. Like others have mentioned, Gaudi's architecture is a big highlight of Barcelona. La Sagrada Familia is the crowning achievement of that. The Gothic Quarter is supposed to be incredible as well. Post some pics here when you return so the rest of us can live vicariously! :D
