Informative, as always, aperfectlie. I am sorry that I missed the information you originally did provide, that the need to shower had partially caused the low reading, because of needing to refill the insulin pump and that the skin can't be wet when re-calibrating it all.
I usually need to read your writings twice, sometimes a third time, because there is so much information, so I go back, re-read, and find that you've usually already answered what I wondered about.
I don't know if you saw it, but in some thread, somewhere, last week, I told you that I really believe that the medical profession needs you.
Should your studies lead you to medicine; be it biomedical engineering, becoming a medical researcher, nurse or doctor, or anything that you can lend that microscopic attention to detail you write with to, I think you'd have a brilliant career.
Of course, there is a huge possibility that you have interests in endeavors that have absolutely nothing to do with health care, and have been forced to use your mind and energy on diabetes simply because you have the intelligence and strong survival instincts. Likely, that mind of yours would find it stultifying to only focus on health related issues.
So by all means, go for the bliss, whatever it may be! One thing that really sucks about diabetes is that one never gets a break from it, not once a day, even- it's a relentless presence that demands attention, at all times.
Most people have no idea of how the disease touches every aspect of the person's life who has it. You are an inspiring example of someone who just handles a hardship expertly and does so in a matter-of-fact way without complaining or self-pity. You're amazing in that facet of your character, no bitching and moaning, just strength and intelligence. That is a great deal to be proud about.

Thank you so much! I am glad you actually listen to what I have to say. Many people have a lot of misconceptions about diabetes and when I try to inform them of things, they just tune me out, so thank you so much! And I have actually considered working in the medical field. However, I have a dilemma. If I were to take on a job in the medical field, I would definitely want it to be in a diabetes related field. Even if I was just a certified diabetes educator, I think it would be amazing! The dilemma tho is the fact that I believe so much in a cure and hope for one so much, but if I became a diabetes educator or an endocrinologist, I would be torn because a cure would mean my career would essentially be over. Given the choice, I'd much rather have a cure than a career, but I just can't bring myself to the position where I go into a field for diabetes but wake up every day hoping we can eliminate diabetes. Unless I was of course trying to find a cure! But I wouldn't even know where to start.

No offense, but to hell with the career. Your health, is more important, than ANY amount of money, or status, in the world.

I'm a pretty successful guy, but I can guarantee you, that money doesn't buy happiness. You can't buy a good life. You find one.

I've had to leave work a couple times to go check on him as he didnt check in and low & behold he was out of it had couldnt get him out & would end upcalling 911. It was one thing when his wihe & kids were there, but now it tough! I feel for ya dude!!

There would be no difference in what I write even if I used invisible ink. There's nobody interested enough to read, nobody there to acknowledge the effort taken. In the end it's all just empty and hollow words from a person who doesn't exist outside of the letters. Just one cut off of communication and they'd cease to be to me. They'd cease to care that I was ever in their lives, and get on as though I had never impacted them. They care not for my tears, my hurt exaserbated by their ignorance and inability to be kind. I know not one person able or willing enough to see how I feel, wholly and truelly. My feelings are selfish, that's all they know. I'm forbidden to be hurt by any wrong doing they may commit against me, yet they pick and choose the most innocent of acts to throw at me and dramatise. This emptyness is suffocating me.

Well thank you for your concern but my post had nothing remotely to do with the board. I was merely using the platform to vent about an "outside" issue. I have an outside life and friends aplenty. Thank you for your concern....

I don't know if it has something to do with your issues, but i learned a long time ago that people care for you only when you're happy, because it's a lot easier. I tried to change that, in every way possible, but in the end, they don't really care, even if they hurt you. and i'm not being pessimistic. So...just try to cheer up. You're young, i guess, and it's the perfect time for you to be happy.

I agree. I write all the time and post some of my writings on a blog, not because I need anyone to read it, but just because I need to get it out there. Only two or three of my friends know about it, but they don't even seem to care. I've learned that people don't seem to care what I write. Even if a line or two is really "amazing" to them, they still don't "get" the whole thing or give any of it a second glance. And as for people not caring, most don't. Most people are in it for themselves and never take the time to understand you because they are too busy focusing on themselves and get pissed at you when you aren't focused on them for the slightest bit. It is pretty irksome. I once heard a quote that I felt is very true: 50% of people don't care about your problems and 50% are glad you have them. But sometimes you do stumble upon a person who does care.

Guys,
With people reading your writing - don't wait for anybody. Because, well chances are your not going to attract anyone.
I get all my friends and family involved, as well as teachers at my school. It's much easier and satisfying when you know someone is reading your work. Once people you know are reading your work - enter competitions.

How do I know?
I've had 2 pieces of my work be commended in a national writing award. I also have had 2 pieces of work published in an anthology.

The problem is, I am terribly possessive of my writing. Nobody really reads it because I don't really want anybody to read it. I never feel it is finished or as good as I want it, so I don't want people reading it because then I feel that is it. It is done. So yeah, I do post a blog, but it is simply for me to get some things out there and finished, but I am in no way looking for it to be discovered. Writing is therapeutic for me, I don't care to share it to people I know, because then I have to hear the critiques and slanted interpretations.

I disagree, John. YES, we all are busy, with our own lives, but that doesn't mean that we don't care. I often wish that I had more than a few minutes, to really write out a really well thought out response. But, often, I just don't have more than a few minutes. And lord knows, we live in a world of constant distraction, now. I dislike, very much so, the constant texts, and emails, and IM's, that make me feel,.....unfocused, on more important things in life.

I feel The Ledge is somewhat different. I feel people on here are more caring and interested than you would expect essential strangers to be. I was referring more to those people who I truly know and consider "friends".

So I've been having body/self esteem issues lately. I think anyone who was ever an insecure, chubby, dorky kid will always feel like they are one... and those old issues flare up from time to time. Anyway, I went to Chipotle for a late lunch today, and I totally made the younger gay boy behind the counter blush, stutter nervously, and shaky while he was preparing my food. It was like the perfect ego boost at the perfect time . Sometimes it's just nice to get a totally random affirmation that you've still got it! :p

I can relate to this completely. I have the same problems when it comes to confidence and self esteem. But I always feel a little better when I go into my local HMV. There's a (slightly) older guy who works behind the counter who everybody I know believes has a crush on me. He always smiles when I come to his register and he brings out things from the store room for me to have first look at when they're not even supposed to be on the shelf yet. He's just generally a really sweet man :p I've noticed he's a bit arsey with other customers so it makes me feel special.

Yes, same here, exactly. You know, until about 15 months ago, I was 40-50 lbs overweight, for about 10 years. No one hardly ever noticed me, or cared(about more than friendship). A year ago August, I decided it was time to do something about it. I went from 180(I'm 5'10") to 135 now. I wear 28 jeans now, and went from XL shirts, to wearing smalls! And it's the best thing I ever did. I get hit on constantly(not bragging here) by 21 year olds!(I turned 42, 3 weeks ago).

Funny story, last night, I went to see a band's reunion, that broke up 18 or so years ago. This big fat slob, pushed his way in front of me, as I was trying to talk to the guitar player, when they took a break. He said, "out of my way, I was here 20 years ago, when they played all the time". I said, "I WAS TOO!" He said, "there's no way you were here then, you're too young...what are you, 27?" I told him to "add 15 to that". Turns out, he was only a year older than I, although he looked 20 years older than me. God that felt good.

I vow to never let myself go again. I'm the best I've ever been. And getting regular booty texts, from 22yo's, is priceless!:D;)

Found out today that my dear mom has breast cancer. I don't know how advanced yet; we are meeting with the surgeon on Monday morning. Thankfully my older sister will be here (from NY) so we can figure it all out. Prayers and positive energy would be great. I am very close with my mother and heartbroken right now.

Today also marks the day my husband and I got married, 10 years ago.

Homer, honestly, I'm not trying to start any problems here but I was wondering what's up with your weight loss? In another post you said your top weight was 215lbs. and your current weight was 145 lbs. That was the post where you were talking about your family intervention on you, the one where they were concerned you were becoming too skinny.
Even though I'm not fond of you I was using your positive weight loss experience to help motivate myself. Using your experience at 215 lbs. because that is exactly where I am at now. My goal weight is to become 180lbs. and I know this is possible.

You see, starting on July 4th of this year I started on a quest of walking 5 miles per day, everyday. I have currently lost 24 lbs. in 5 months and am still walking despite the cold wintery days and nights.

So all in all I was curious what your top weight really was, 180 as you claim here or 215 as you previously stated?

One more thing, why would you refer to the man who pushed his way in front of you as a "big fat slob?" Once being overweight yourself I would have thought you'd be more sympathetic to others with your choice of words.

Back in 1986 I cruelly laughed at how fat Stevie had become, after having been as thin as she was. Well, karma came back at me and tuned me into a fat man. I long for the day(which will come again) when men start to notice me and text me for booty calls in the same way that young women do for you now.

3 or 4 years ago, I was up to 215. My aunt got on me, about how fat I was getting, and I got down to 180, and pretty much stayed there, for a couple of years(by basically just cutting out ALL late night eating=forbidden!). But last August, I decided it was time to get my sh*t together.....lose weight....stop being a loner.....find love.....

So, I cut out almost all red meat, and eat tons of veggies, and got all the way down to 133. So, I DO eat a little more now. I weigh, EVERYDAY, and my window is 135-140. AS LONG AS I COME IN, INSIDE THAT WINDOW, I don't starve myself. Today, was 138, so I'm good. I absolutely LOVE wearing 28" jeans, and small shirts. Like I've said before, no one wanted me, at 215, or even 180. And you want MOTIVATION? Once I got down to about 160, I started getting hit on, more and more, with each additional pound. I can't stress that, any more......each pound, made me more and more desirable.
AND, I'm so proud to say, that I did it ALL, without ONE IOTA of exercise! I'd rather starve, than work out!
Bonus side effects? My doctor had been threatening me with cholesterol meds, for a couple of years, and I was on high blood pressure meds. My cholesterol dropped 93!!! points, and my BP is down 20. No meds needed, now. The doctor even said, "I don't really approve of the way you lost it, but you've got all your numbers, right where they need to be, so keep it up".

I called the man a big fat slob, firstly, because he was off the charts RUDE, in literally pushing me out of his way. Secondly, to point out how letting yourself go, affects the way you perceive yourself, and others perceive you. He was only a year older than I, yet he thought I was 15 years younger than I am. For me, my weight loss has, almost literally, been a time machine for me.

Lordy, I can't wait until New Year's Eve! I'm canceling my trip to Nashville, for an invite to the hottest party in town. Yowza!!!!! Life...bring it on!!!!

Yeah yesterday was sunny and 73 on Christmas but the severe weather up north we sometimes feel the effects down here. The wind is bending the palms and theres an advisory for boaters to not be out on the water today because it is scary. And I was going to the beach today but that will have to wait maybe later in the week.

You're lucky to have hills, since the southern half of Florida is flat! The pretty bridges here we go over have to count as our hills. And we have canopy walks at some of the local parks overlooking everything for miles. No, I wanted to live inland some when I moved here because of the hurricanes and live about 10-15 minutes from the beaches depending on traffic. I got that snapshot from SeeSarasotaLive.com where they have a webcam out on Siesta Key. I wouldn't call it (cold) today, just very windy and blustery out from the weather up north. I have been out on the beach here though when the Gulf is crashing ashore and scary looking and the wind something terrible, and today was one of those days. It's supposed to warm back up later this week and I'll make it a beach day then.

Yeah, I wanted to live in the hills on the western side of Austin since that's where I grew up. The Carolina piedmont was pretty flat, and the trees were so tall and thick you never got to see the sky... no sunsets, only a few stars at night, no big vistas. Thankfully the hills are very big here, and the trees are very small... so I get to see sunsets, stars, and big views everywhere I go :).

And I don't blame you regarding the hurricanes. We had a hurricane flood us a couple of years ago, and lost our car (it was submerged in 6 feet of water), lost everything on the first floor of our townhouse (we had 4 feet of water inside), had to swim out of our condo, etc. So when I was searching for apartments here in Austin, I made sure to consult the floodplain maps. NEVER AGAIN!!

I am so thankful we did not have any hurricanes this year, my first year here. I know we had a few tropical storms pass over various parts of the state but we never saw much come of them around here, I did love the cool skies all summer. Some mornings the cloud mixtures you get down here when it's half sunny/half raining look heavenly and tropical like nothing I've ever seen up north. It's weather like this below I have yet to see that would both fascinate me and scare the heck out of me at the same time, but just a part of living here. The seabreezes colliding from both bodies of water on each side of the state make for awesome skies sometimes down here.

No gators in this neck of the woods... we're in the Southwest here in Austin. There are very few fish in Lake Travis even, because the water's too clear and devoid of nutrients and plant life.

Caddo lake near where Mom's side of the family lives in East TX on the LA border has many gators, tho:

The gators are in the swamps of the Gulf coast section of Texas, and in the Bayou Country of East Texas.

We have none here in Austin... we're in the arid Southwest here. Instead we have tarantulas, scorpions, and 9 inch long stinging centipedes:

The scorpions here I've seen are clearish, and really tiny and I've only had 1 find it's way into the house over the summer and I swept it up and threw it out. I've been good at keeping all critters outside by keeping the front doors shut all times. The pool lanai doors in back I still have to watch when opened, because things can still find their way inside the pool cage. How, I don't know. But lizards, and baby spiders and the occasional palmetto bug will be inside the pool area. It's Florida and you will have these things.

God, I'd love to have that enclosure around my pool! I can't imagine how much it would cost to build a 50x25 glass building like that. Although, our winters are so cold here, that I can't imagine how much it would cost to heat a pool, even if it were enclosed(especially since I like it hot tub temp! I keep mine around 95-98F in the summer). Beautiful pool pic!

Thanks. This house came with all that thankfully. From what I've heard on HGTV shows and people in Florida, a screened enclosure can cost 25 to 30 thousand dollars or more.... and they're nice to have, keeps the mosquitos and most critters out and a plus is you don't have leaves etc. blowing in your pool like most up north. Keeping them maintained is so much easier and down here it's considered outdoor living area most of the year.

Oh yeah, I stopped getting wasted all the time. The crowd? I stopped going to the popular bar. The generous people? I stopped letting random people buy me drinks. I stopped wasting money on getting wasted and wasting money to pay a babysitter to watch my kids so that I could go get wasted. Errrr... A little bitter? No, not me! What happened to the days when I got dressed up all pretty and went out with my friends and smiled and danced and thought I was the most beautiful popular lady around and this was completely validated by the crowds of people all around me and the generosity of other? Oh yeah, I stopped getting wasted all the time. The crowd? I stopped going to the popular bar. The generous people? I stopped letting random people buy me drinks. I stopped wasting money on getting wasted and wasting money to pay a babysitter to watch my kids so that I could go get wasted. Errrr... A little bitter? No, not me! In the big scheme of things, NYE doesn't really matter much. I must figure out something special to do on New Years Day! Other than watch the OWN network that will be launched that day!

All right guys- just thought I would share! Cheers!

I think it's a sign of maturity when you've moved on from getting plastered for the sake of getting plastered. I don't think it's necessarily a matter of getting old and getting boring. Rather, it's a sign of clarity and perspective; getting drunk is not worth the aftermath of getting drunk.

This year I think I'm going to spend a quiet evening out at my house (assuming I can manage to dig through the snowdrifts up the driveway and to the front door!), throw a log in the fireplace, drink a glass or two of some earthy Bourdeaux that I can't pronounce, and just reflect on a year that was arguably the most difficult I've ever experienced. I'm glad to see it end; however, I am grateful that I am entering the new year a changed person with a newfound sense of self-assurance. The new year is still a question mark, but I am hopeful.

Mom is having a double mastectomy on January 14- thanks for all of the support and well wishes!

While I'm very sorry that she has to go through this procedure, if they can get all the cancer, that's ALL that matters.

Wow, January 14th. I lost my Mom to cancer, 8 years ago, on January 14th.

My band is OFF, for the first New Year's Eve, since I've been an adult. I've got an invitation, to the hottest party in town. I plan on getting drunk, dancing, drinking some more, making out, drinking some more, getting laid, falling asleep, then eating breakfast!

Mom is having a double mastectomy on January 14- thanks for all of the support and well wishes!

A friend of mine who is 38 (or thereabouts), had a double mastectomy back in October. I saw her a few weeks ago and she is doing great! She said it was hard the first two or three weeks. Just doing stuff we take for granted, like opening doors or reaching for a plate in the cabinet. Because the muscles you use to do that have to mend from the surgery.

But since the masetectomy, she has had reconstructive surgery and seems to healing quite beautifully.

It's a long road, but I've seen my friend come out the other end and she is really doing well. I really wish the same outcome for your mom.

Stay strong!

Ha ha... I could use some meds myself today. One of my back teeth has been bothering me for a while, but it is now a constant, agonizing pain. Last night I finally looked to see what was going on, and the problem tooth has literally turned gray- like one burnt out bulb in a vanity lighting fixture. I hardly slept due to the pain. I'm no dentist, but I strongly suspect that a root canal is on my list of things to do today. :distress:

^ Good luck, Hejira. Ouch. I find if I have a sore tooth, repeated constant brushing and then showering with the water way too hot and letting it hit the tooth helps a lot, til I break down and see the dentist. Of course- your way- seeing a dentist at first indication- should work even better!
Dentistry in my 20s was the beginning of my 20 year descent into loving percocet- I was in agonizing pain, took one, and not only was the pain gone, I was euphoric. Decided the following day I'd tough out the pain with Tylenol, and save the percocet for when I wasn't in pain.
It was a glorious introduction that I never quite recaptured. Some 12 years (?) after the dental experience, my shrink determined that I needed the drug, twice daily, and the euphoria I told her of was the tip-off, after every anti-depressant we tried had failed. Me and happy just never entwined.
If I had great, healthy teeth, I'd never have tried the drug.

Thanks... trust me, I've been putting this off way too long. It's only now gotten to the point where the pain is unbearable. And I certainly have had my share of synthetic opiate fun! If the side effects weren't so bad, I think everyone should be taking them! We would have world peace. Depression would be eradicated. People would be too euphoric to deal with problems... Every day would be the best day ever! Alas, nobody has been able to figure out how to make it non-addictive.

Things will get better. My best friend, and constant partner in crime, fell madly in love, 5 months ago. Since then, I'm lucky if I get to talk to him 5 minutes a week, now. 6-7 nights a week, hanging out, to 5 minutes a week(and that's if I force it). I feel like I've lost a huge part of myself. :distress:

BUT, life is what it is. I just have to file this under "sh*t happens", and move forward. Because that's all I can do.

Ah, Percocet. My one true love. I was given it when I had knee surgery, and loved them immediately. I had always been very depressed and suddenly I felt really good. Like you, I've tried many different drugs to try and capture that euphoric feeling and it's not happened. Happy I and have never been friends since.

Well then I will try to refrain from rubbing it in your face, but SCORE! The dentist gave me a script for 30 Percs, which I just filled. But it's not for nothing... I think I was his first patient in history to march into the office and demand a root canal. He was skeptical at first and took x-rays, etc. But after some conductance testing and probing around, as I suspected, the problem tooth was straight up DOA and totally infected . I totally enjoyed getting a root canal... it was like manna from heaven compared to the hellish pain I've been in for the past couple of days. And to top it off, he only charged me $200 even though they crowbarred me into the schedule as an emergency. As Stevie says "there are angels here on earth..."

Interestingly, the wall of his examining room is lined with pictures of himself with various luminaries- Bill and Hillary Clinton, Mayor Bloomberg, Julian Moore, Rain Wilson (WTF??), etc. But right smack dab in the middle was this big picture of Carole King. I was jealous! And I wondered if she was one of his patients... but I never got around to making idle chatter since I was delirious with pain and sleep deprivation. Tonight it's going to be just me, a nice hummus salad, TV on demand and a pill or two or three. :p

Yeah, my best friend is only 22. I went from being the biggest constant in his life, to being completely erased.:(
And it doesn't help, that his new partner, is very selfish, and doesn't want him to have any friends(yes, I'm not the only one fired, we all have been).

He occasionally mentions my name, to a mutual friend of ours, so he's not completely forgotten me. But yes, it sucks, knowing that no matter how important they tell you, that you are to them, you can be kicked to the curb, at a moment's notice.

That sucks :(. I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe he'll come back, it's just the beginning of their relationship afterall. My situation is not that bad yet, cause i'm really almost fighting to keep a good relationship with my best friend, though her boyfriend litterally hates me. There was a time when she was telling me "if i have to choose between a guy and you, i'll choose you". But i just can't say anything, cause she's happy and all, and he might be the right guy for her... I'm just trying to see her, from time to time. But we still have other friends, right ?.

My house's biggest fault, is that my kitchen's a little small, too. When I pay off the house in 3 years, that's my first big project. Going to turn my smallest bedroom, into a bathroom, then knock out a wall, and let my kitchen take over the space of the current bathroom.

I'll only gain 5 extra feet of cabinet space, but it will give me room for an island, too.

I must ask: do any Ledgies find me intelligent?

Never ask for compliments. Wait for them to be given.

One of the mean Ledgies might sing to you:
Don't ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to
can't help about the shape I'm in
I can't sing, I ain't pretty
and my legs are thin

I wish we could bar hop together!!! I wasn't planning on coming this week, but found out Thursday night at work, that I wasn't needed until next Saturday.....so that's why I SAVE money, so when sh*t like this happens, I can afford to hit the road!

If anybody's not been to Nashville, downtown is just fantastic, if you like live music. I've never counted, but there are probably 30-40 clubs, in about a 5 block walk. All with bands playing, and no cover charges(except for the Wildhorse Saloon, and it's too touristy for me anyway). Flask of whiskey in my coat pocket, a PBR in my hand, and a killer band playing, and I'm.in.heaven.

Sounds like you had a great time last night. Sadly, I've never been nowhere near Nashville (I've only seen the South when my dad makes my family drive to Florida to visit my grandparents, a 25 hour drive where the money he saves on airfare ends up being double that in pain), but is there anything to do there for someone who doesn't like country music?

And as for your Chris impression, ten bucks says she'll chuck wine in your face if you did it in front of her (and I wanna be there to witness it!)

Yeah, we have stopped and spent a night in GA, but there were a few times we did, in fact, drive through the night. I still remember the weird traffic jam on I-95 at 3 in the morning in SC, where the cars were bumper-to-bumper and, on the side of the road, there were tons of empty cars, some of which still had their engine running. To this day, I still joke that there was probably an alien abduction

How long does it take for you to get to FL? The 25 hour thing was if I was going to my grandparents' condo in West Palm Beach, but 22 hours for Disney World (yes, Disney World, but I'm a big kid at heart and I can tell you that, from my last trip in August, Harry Potter Land isn't worth it)

Yeah, my friend and I went to Memphis once. And once was enough. It was okay, but I feel that Nashville just blows it off the map. Memphis felt ghetto-y. 2PM in the afternoon, and you had to play hopscotch, just to jump over the bums passed out on the sidewalks. I did enjoy Graceland, though, and Sun Studios. I'll probably make it back there, someday.....

Haha. I know what you mean! I wasn't even allowed to go walking on my own because it was a rough time of the year (around Thanksgiving) and so all the down and outs came out to play.

I preferred Studio B to Sun Studios. I was yelled at in Sun Studios because my flash on my camera accidentally went off. Oopsie. But I actually got to stand where Elvis stood, play the piano people like Johnny Cash and Skeeter Davis played at Studio B. It was magical. We even got to record an Elvis Song ourselves as a souvenir *wonders where her Dad put the CD*.

Haha, I was almost an hour late to that party, last night, because I couldn't find my phone, halfway there, and was terrified that I'd put it on the roof or something. It had squeezed itself out of my tight jeans pocket, and was lying in my yard. Took me forever to find it! I kept calling it, from my land line, but didn't hear it. I kept retracing my steps, over and over, and finally saw the LED flashing, out in the grass.

I was pretty much driving with the traffic, today, about 82-83mph, the whole way. The record breaking time, traffic was going 90, so I just got in line! People always FLY through Kentucky....probably to get the hell out, before they get buggered, or their teeth fall out!

Cinabon is this chain of places in malls that make giant cinammon buns (it's enough for 3 people). When hot and fresh (as in not premade and from a box on the side there), it's delicious. They have mini ones too, but they just aren't as good as the giant ones.

Great, now I'm hungry and have an urge for either than or an Auntie Ann's pretzel. Maybe I'll figure out a way to get the lot of over here to NY and then to Smith Haven Mall so I can get all of you this stuff

I have no idea, but that show is nuts. I think he's also had very spicy things too and it's probably even more fun watching him try and eat that than stuff his face with a ton of food.

Speaking of large portions, i found that out the hard way when I was 13 and visited Cali. In the CityWalk are by Universal Studios Hollywood, there's this steakhouse where, little did I know, that the portions are so big they were meant to be shared and was left wondering why i could get through barely half of my meal

Speaking of large portions,

I just had the biggest salad in the world(Elaine would be proud). I've gained about 6 lbs during the holidays, and they WILL leave. I shouldn't have finished the salad, but it was sooo good. TONS of green pepper, onion, and tomatos, with some chicken strips on top. But at least it was almost all veggies. I had a couple of beers before dinner, so it's now nap time! Gotta catch up, after last night, before I topple Nashville, tonight!

I've just done some sums and realised roughly how much my next costume project is going to cost, just for fabric, never mind contact lenses or wig. Ouch. :distress:

I'm glad I'm not making, for this very reason. My Agnetha costume has cost a pretty penny but thankfully it's been spread out because I'm using some things that I already have. I thought about making a Princess Leia costume but I just don't have the time what with the invitation coming so late and school :distress:

I'm doing Blind Mag (http://windofthestars.com/cosplays/mag2.jpg) from Repo!: The Genetic Opera. I've found the perfect fabric but for a full length coat with a wide hem it's working out pretty dear. It is perfect, though, and pure silk, so I'm sorely tempted.

Last year I made this (http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showpost.php?p=920762&postcount=1568), and swore I'd never do anything as mad or expensive again. For silk, though, it could be worth it ...

This isn't Agnetha from ABBA, by the way, is it? :)

I've bought this one (http://img.joke.co.uk/images/products/large/63049.jpg) which isn't as short but I know I will end up taking it up and in wether it's for the party or to wear it as a shirt afterwards.

Alien abduction?

Bloomington IN to Tampa, or Orlando, is 1000 miles, which takes 16 hours, driving like a race car driver(me). Nashville only takes me 4 hours(although I beat my record, last time, and set a new one, of 3:43- laws may have been broken! )

From where I lived just above Cincinnati, it is roughly a 16 hour drive to and from Florida each way. I haven't flown since I was a kid and prefer staying on the ground but if an emergency arose I wouldn't hesitate taking a plane out. It's not so much a fear of them, cause I'd love to fly in a small plane locally over Florida and the islands or even down to the Keys at some point, and even parasail sometime, it looks so much fun! But I think being on a commercial flight 4 or 5 hours going home to (Ohio) is what I'd dread. But if something happened and I had to be up there fast, I'd fly in a second. I love aerial views of the state of Florida though. So pretty!

I don't know what I should get for a new laptop once I have enough money saved up. I absolutely hate my mother's Toshiba, I'm not very fond of my Dell Desktop, & please don't say a Mac, because I can't see myself going down the route.

Any suggestions? :) I really don't know what would be the most reliable. My Step-Dad's HP seems to work really good... but it hardly has any programs on it.

You, my child, need an Acer. Acer is my go-to for laptops, because they are moderately priced but hard-working, and they usually don't use proprietary components - so if one thing breaks, you can replace it easily and less-expensively than you would be able to do with, say, a Gateway or Dell.

Oh, and make sure it has an AMD processor in it, not an Intel. AMD chips are also moderately priced and hard-working. I personally won't buy a laptop that doesn't have an AMD chip in it, and when I build a desktop, I only use AMD chips.

I'm suddenly blanking on where you live, but I always buy my laptops, the parts to fix my laptops, and the parts for the desktops I build from either www.tigerdirect.com or www.newegg.com - if you are in the States, you'll be able to get a sweet deal, and they both have excellent customer service and tech support, but I am not sure how good-deal they are for folks not in the States.

ETA: After posting, I saw you're in Cananananada, oops. But check those sites anyway - even if you can't get a really good deal, you can use them for research, as they both have extensive inventories and customer reviews.

Too bad, I am going to say it. Mac. You need a Mac. I was very hesitant to getting a Mac because of how different it was, but I was honestly just so effing tired of Windows, I just went for it. It took a few weeks to get used to, but now I will never ever go back to Windows. Forget about trends and what is or isn't considered "cool", at the end of the day, Mac's are extremely good products. My mom got a new comp with Windows Vista about a year ago and over the past year it has gotten infected with so many rogue programs and spyware, it is ridiculous. I haven't used Windows 7, but I personally find Vista a pain in the ass to operate. XP was much easier. I've had my Mac for three years and still have yet to get a virus or any spyware on it. It runs as fast as the day I bought it. So even tho you don't see yourself going that route, if you have the money, I say get a Mac. You won't be disappointed.

My best friend has a Mac, and it's like 3 years old, and he still swears it's the best thing ever.

He says that they're more stable. Much less prone to crashes, and much more virus resistant.

BUT, he also paid, I believe, like $2200 for it. My Toshiba, with 17"monitor, 3GB, and 250gig HD, was only $348. Walmart's back to school special, a year ago. They had the same deal, this past August.

Same here. I have had my aluminum Macbook Pro for 2 years now, and it still operates like the day I bought it. Unlike all the various Windows products I'd owned which ran like crap after 2-3 months... and were totally toast within 2-3 years. The Mac may be pricier initially, but it pays for itself over the long run. I'll never go back to PC again!

Jannie and others who asked about Mac:
Mac gets my vote, too. I have an iBook G4, so it's not the newest model, at all.
It is just very reliable and long lasting. There are nice features like Guitar Band, to make your own song demos- with built in 'studio' features, like a recording mic and reverb and auto tune and pitch corrections- various built-in features allow creating a musical track without being able to actually play any instruments at all - helpful in my case. The more time you spend programming it, the better the tracks sound- You can mix and edit, though it hurts my ADD bad! , I play around with it.
The Macs have many features I can't begin to describe (or take full adavantage of!) but generally, it's pretty easy to use.
This Mac I have has unused film-making capablilites, with a film editing program, neither of which I have checked out yet, and it's generally more 'arty' than 'techie' so I find it easier to use than other computers.
If they only had Mac cable tv companies, I'd be all set. I hate the impossibly difficult U-Verse from ATT (90,000 channels, but so hard to use, it's ruined tv for me- I watch it at my parents and refuse to have cable at my own house). I swear, my parents TV actually seems to crash, the cable box is so so freakin intricate, and it takes a good hour to get the cable back, when it 'goes'- about once every 10 days! The tv is a Sony 56" high def flat screen tv, and top of the line, but honestly, I think their old house needs to be rewired to accomodate the technology! Overhead lights dim, lightbulbs don't last, all since they got the big tv with a tuner, cable box, dvd, and so many wires and cables I could puke :) Forget about being able to use only one remote with it, either. I hate tv now. I just want to press power and change channels, not get a new degree. MIT grads only should bother with AT&T UVerse. Just my opinion- some people love it. I use AT&T for phone and wireless and it's good.
Back to Macs- They do cost more, but my laptop was $1600 and it now about five years old, so maybe they are now less expensive, I don't know. They are pretty much crash proof. I crashed it once, but it was my fault. Got it working again just by reinstalling the original disks.
To my knowledge, my Mac hasn't ever been hacked into, either. With previous computers, I had my credit card information stolen either twice or three times, once with eBay, once with PayPal-- it all worked out, but I think Macs may be more secure because the hackers are less familiar with them.
I may be wrong, but I think Macs are more 'secure' than pcs. Whatev.

Mac: no support for flash, expensive hardware, limited software and peripherals. Fail.

PC: universal compatibility, competitive prices, more power for the money, but prone to viruses. Win. But not by much.

I have a recent-ish HP laptop with Windows 7 that I absolutely adore. I do admire Apple as a company, and I love their i___ products. But I really, really detest their business model of restrictive price competition and retail outlets.

I've never tried to get Ledgies against you. You do that all on your own with your stunning way of abusing people, especially fans of Stevie Nicks. I know plenty about you Dave because you talk about yourself all the time. The four people you mentioned are members you are actually nice and respectful to on a regular basis. You have never been nice or respectful to me, EVER.

Maybe I missed the beginning of the show, but I don't understand where all your vitriole towards Homie comes from. I've never known Homie to be abusive to others. He's been around quite a bit longer than you and anyone who knows a little bit about him knows that he likes to rip on Stevie. I'm a huge Stevie fan but I can rip on her with the best of them. It's part of having a sense of humor.

The issue of cliques used to be such a huge deal around here. But most of those people, who made this place fun, are no longer around. Now there are new cliques - it's natural, you get a group of people together who talk regularly and friendships and alliances are bound to develop.

So, for whatever any of that was worth. I really don't want to get caught up in your drama. I just felt the need to point out that it seems you have been pretty confrontational on here on quite a few occasions.

Thank you, Cammie. I appreciate your comments, very much!:xoxo:
