You, my child, need an Acer. Acer is my go-to for laptops, because they are moderately priced but hard-working, and they usually don't use proprietary components - so if one thing breaks, you can replace it easily and less-expensively than you would be able to do with, say, a Gateway or Dell.
Oh, and make sure it has an AMD processor in it, not an Intel. AMD chips are also moderately priced and hard-working. I personally won't buy a laptop that doesn't have an AMD chip in it, and when I build a desktop, I only use AMD chips.
I'm suddenly blanking on where you live, but I always buy my laptops, the parts to fix my laptops, and the parts for the desktops I build from either www.tigerdirect.com or www.newegg.com - if you are in the States, you'll be able to get a sweet deal, and they both have excellent customer service and tech support, but I am not sure how good-deal they are for folks not in the States.
ETA: After posting, I saw you're in Cananananada, oops. But check those sites anyway - even if you can't get a really good deal, you can use them for research, as they both have extensive inventories and customer reviews.
Hey! I haven't been responding, because I haven't been on here since I posted that, but I just read everyone's suggestions. Thanks! I might get an Acer, everyone I talk to actually says that they are really great, so I don't know where I would go wrong there. Reading these posts makes me actually consider a Mac now, I have to say they do look really sleek, and if I can find a real good one with the right price, I'll consider it!! I'm going to go to Futureshop this week and ask them about their Sony Vaio's first, they look like awesome computers, in performance & looks. I'm surprised no one has one.

Rupert Everett. He was in Dellamorte Dellamore, My Best Friend's Wedding, Unconditional Love, The Comfort Of Strangers, Wild Target etc to name but a few :p
He also did the Lord Byron documentary if you saw it! He's delicious and very VERY filthy haha.

*Aghast* Heathen child! Blasphemousl creature! :p Rupert Everett is one of the most delicious creations to ever walk the Earth. Even if he's more seasoned now than he was. Watch Wild Target and tell me I'm wrong. He's one of only few people who have ever made me weak in the knees.
Having said that, in the past I've had disgusting taste in men. Eg, Dustin Hoffman (Kramer Vs Kramer and Tootsie days), Alan Rickman (Who am I kidding? I still like him), Simon Cowell (Shameful), Orlando Bloom (I blame this on being an idiot teen at the time :p) and Kyan Douglas.
Why is it the people I like are either old, gay or arseholes? Never any chance for me lol.

I'm so sorry about your dog, John. God, the torment I went through, with mine(he had cancer, and died, 4 years ago. If you search the "Pet Thread" on here, his almost two year battle, is well documented). For me, I didn't make the decision to euthanize, until I knew he was in pain. We did radiation and chemo, for almost two years, and even an experimental vaccine(which came along too late).....but it wasn't until he cried all night, one night, that I KNEW I couldn't let him live in pain. He was my baby, and I loved him more than anything in the world, but I couldn't let him suffer.

I hate taking the Cat downstairs to his room at 1am after the Grandfather Clock's finished chiming and it's dark and quiet. It's chilling. I have such an overactive imagination that it's not even funny anymore. Everytime I open a door leading to the dark downstairs I see a Zombie or something coming at me. I actually physically see them.
Strange but true.

I'm 50/50 on it. On one hand, I'd sell/pay a great deal to see ABBA live... on the other hand, they are older now, so what if they aren't as good and they ruin their image? They were so brilliant, that a reunion would either be ball-breakingly disappointing, or the best thing ever.

It sounds like more than rumor to me...
http://www.raffem.com/images/Agnetha/P1020780.JPG
From the December 28, 2010 issue of "m Magasin" in Sweden:
"No and yes. - A one-time basis reunion, perhaps in connection with any charity, I think maybe we all could imagine", says Agnetha.
- We will hardly be reunited for a tour as the Rolling Stones and other old bands do now. But however, I can imagine that we could do something together in the future, she says.
- It's just a feeling I have that it would be fun to get together, talk a bit about the past and may be do something together. But then it has to be something special.
I am open to see the others and do something, she adds, but points out that she had not had contact with Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad."
I am afraid that, if something is gonna happen, I want to be there! Who cares if they're old? Agnetha still looks okay for an old broad.

One of the managers at work made a personal remark about my weight today. I was surprised, because he and I aren't normally that chatty but I guess he wanted to shoot the breeze while his meal was heating up in the microwave. I was getting my lunch out, and he said "I think you have gained weight."
It's totally true, I have gained weight. It just seemed odd that he said it, as casually as one might have said "I like your tie" or "Happy New Year." It's not like we usually exchange chit-chat. So I said (as blankly and matter-of-fact as possible) "Well, I suppose I have."
I dunno about you, but that sounds like an HR-worthy comment. I think it falls squarely under the "hostile work environment" category. Seriously inappropriate. If he had said something like that to a woman, and she reported him, he would have been sent packing, most definitely.

How much longer can an act turn down a reputed 1 billion (dollars? Euros?) for a reunion. That's huge money for such a short commitment. They could give it to Unicef or something, wasn't that their pet cause in the 70's?
I seriously doubt they were offered a billion dollars... rupees, maybe. There isn't a concert tour in history that has even come remotely close to grossing that much money. Still, Buddah knows an Abba reunion would be one for the record books. It would be like Woodstock in Europe.

My best friend and I have grown apart since we started college, but this week we sort of re-bonded over an evening of music and movies. I'm so excited to think we might get back some of the closeness we used to have, but because our communication is through email I don't know if she feels the same way. We're emailing more often (i.e. we're emailing at all) but I feel like I'm pushing her. Aaaarggh. Pray for patience.

Did I miss what happened to him??? I saw where you might have to put him to sleep, but never saw why.
After mine died of cancer, four years ago, I vowed to not have any more dogs. I get WAAAAAY too attached to them(honestly, for me, I might have well lost my child), and spent a LOT of money(15K) on his cancer.
He has a herniated disc. And I have vowed to never get another pet. I've had the worst of luck with them. They are such a big investment, financially, emotionally, and time consuming, and then they die. :(

Yeah...I know. Welcome to the club.
I seriously hate being stressed out. It's the only thing that makes me cry...like now.
And now I can't think straight. I was supposed to turn in my government paper by six on friday,
but because I put other people before what I needed to do (and completely forgot about the paper) I didn't do it.
Now I can't even begin to write my second paragraph. :(
P.S. this paper is not the reason why I am stressed. It's one of the many little things that have contributed to it, though.

John, you are in my world. I have one cat left(my Mom had four, and she passed away, and my family refused to take any of them..."sorry, they're YOURS").
I'm not really a cat guy(ABSOLUTELY a dog guy!). But after what I went through, with my dog's cancer, I don't WANT any more animals. I love them, but I don't want to go through that, again.
When this last cat goes...well.....that's IT. IF I ever get around to getting a will made, I hope to leave everything to some animal organization, should my immediate family not survive me. And I probably will outlive them...they all either smoke/or are overweight.

Exactly! I have my dog and a cat, both are about ten. My cat got hit by a car about 6 years ago, but luckily survived, even tho it took so much money and time for him to heal. Now he is blind in one eye, but other than that he is fine! My dog was attacked by a husky and his throat ripped from ear to ear in November, but he recovered from that and now he has a herniated disc. Before I had these two animals, I had so many animals that died, it was unreal. My favorite dogs are golden retrievers and one year I got one for Christmas. Four years later, someone poisoned him. I had this beautiful orange cat named Garfield who was killed by dogs. I had a pet duck that was also killed by dogs. I had two cats that got ran over and I was the one to find them in the street. Being that I am only 21, most of this stuff happened when I was younger than 15. Ever since then, I have vowed that after my cat and dog die, no more animals for me! It is just too heartbreaking :[

Yeah, I know. AND, I always had light anti-social tendencies(especially with a good dog in my life- nothing diagnosed, or anything like that,....I was just "happy", to come home to my dog...f*ck ppl;)). I certainly noticed, after my dog died, that I was becoming a much more social person. And I like being, that more social person. Solitude, can kiss my ass, now. I like having a life, now.

I feel bad for all those still doing exams. I stopped taking them years ago and thank Christ for that. I was never any good in test situations. For my last exam, which was History I was supposed to be talking about War. I got so bored during it, and knew I would fail it anyway, so I just basically wrote out Bill Hick's quote on war and "the illusion of life". I got a D...Impressive for bull**** logic :p Now I just have to cope with massive projects and huge essays :p I get my Studio Practice (Fine Art Painting) results on Thursday, Drawing Studies Friday and Theoretical Study and Personal Development Planning results on the 18th. I hope I do well because these grades go towards my final degree.

All these things are flying around in my head and when I try to sit down to one, another springs to mind. Sigh! :o

So let me thank you for time
And try to not waste any more of mine
Get out of here fast
I hate to break it to you babe
But I'm not drowning
There's no one here to save
You sound so innocent
All full of good intent
You swear you know best
But you expect me to
Jump up on board with you
Ride off into your dellusional sunset
I'm not the one who's lost
With no direction oh
But you won't ever see
You're so busy makin' maps
With my name on them in all caps
You got the talkin' down just not the listening

People suck. That's the be all and end all of it. They may present themselves to you in a pretty box in fourty bright ****ing colours with I love you's and words of endearmeant scrawled across all available space. They'll tell you what you want to hear and you'll believe them because Buddha forbid you see them for what they really are. Choose to see the kindly Witch rather than the embittered Queen. But once you peel back what's aestetichally pleasing, the stuff there to distract you while they steal your wallet, the inside of the box is rotten. Each day I grow more and more aware of this and more and more eager to convince myself that this is not the case. That there are people out there who can prove their worth and prove me wrong. I would adore them and bow down to the feet of the person who showed me that trust isn't merely a wasted platitude. But I've yet to meet them. They promise the world, but can't even deliver a small maisonette's worth of generosity when it comes to their compassion and time and willingness to be true. Yet we waste all that we have on promising them what we can and ensuring that we can deliver. I promise as much as I know I can deliver and I make sure that they come before me. But this tactic is flawed. Because it counts on the selflessness of the other party, and the fact that they have failed to realise how empty you are of your souls worth only proves that they are incapable of being selfless. They can't be the fantasy friend, parent, family or lover that you constructed in your mind. They can only be human. And for those of us who still dare to dream...that just isn't enough. So constantly we are dissappointed, left in the corner to lick our wounds while they dance in the glory of all you bestowed upon them.

I took my daily walk last night but limited it to two and a half hours instead of five. I had walked five earlier in the day. When I started out the temperature was 5 degrees and when I came home the temp was 2 degrees. It wasn't that bad at all. When the wind blows, forget it, it's just freezing. But I've noticed that at night there seems to be no wind so the cold is not as scary as it sounds. During the day it can be 27 degrees and if the wind is blowing it's as cold as f%&k.

http://ratevin.com/story.php?title=new-zodiac-signs-2011-astrological-signs-change-new-astrological-signs-meaning-ophiuchus-horoscope
The astrological signs have changed due to the changes in the Earth’s alignment, according to astronomer Parke Kunkle.
Astronomer Parke Kunkle told NBC that the position of the Earth in relation to the Sun has changed from 3,000 years ago, when astrological studies began and Zodiac signs were allocated. Star doctors now say that one's Zodiac sign must be reconfigured given the change in the Earth's location.
"Because of this change of tilt, the Earth is really over here in effect and Sun is in a different constellation than it was 3,000 years ago," Kunkle, who is also a board member of the Minnesota Planetarium Society, told NBC.
The changes mean people's signs may be off by about a month (check below for your -- possibly -- new sign).
Plus, there may be a thirteenth Zodiac sign: Ophiuchus.
"The tilt of the Earth's axis has gradually shifted since the ancient times when the Babylonians determined the dates of the Zodiac. The calendrical rejiggering also supposedly re-introduced a sign discarded by the Babylonians: Ophiuchus, alternatively called the much-cooler sounding Serpentarius," according to ABC News.
The Zodiac news has caused panic among believers and has dominated Google. Searches related to this topic currently fill six of the top 10 spots on "Hot Topics" and 13 of the top 20 spots on "Hot Searches" in the United States.
The news has also been controversial with one astrologer calling it "ridiculous."
"We've known about this for ages. The constellations don't suggest what's coming up, it's the planets! The constellations are a measuring device," popular astrologer Susan Miller told ABC News.
"In ancient days there were, like, 50 constellations. Then they finally got together and agreed on 18. Then they narrowed it down...I'm getting so many tweets. Trying to explain something technical in 140 characters is hard!"
Here is the possible new chart, taking the changes into consideration:
Capricorn: Jan. 20 - Feb. 16
Aquarius: Feb. 16 - March 11
Pisces: March 11- April 18
Aries: April 18- May 13
Taurus: May 13- June 21
Gemini: June 21- July 20

Virgo: Sept. 16- Oct. 30
Libra: Oct. 30- Nov. 23
Scorpio: Nov. 23- Nov. 29
Ophiuchus: Nov. 29- Dec. 17
Sagittarius: Dec. 17- Jan. 20

George Bronk Used Facebook to Hack into Women's Emails
George Bronk used Facebook to hack into women's emails – a charge to which he has pleaded guilty to. It is scary that this California man was able to use the information he got from the social network to hack into the accounts. Once he was in, Bronk sent nude pictures of the women to everyone in their address book. What a disaster!
Bronk, 23, victimized dozens of women in both the U.S. and England in this manner. He found the nude or seminude photos in the women’s “sent” folders, which is scary. When he found them, he forwarded the embarrassing photos out to all their contacts.
Then he basically blackmailed the women into sending more explicit photos by threatening them with sending out even more photos that he had stolen. What a terrible crime! The victims described it as being like “virtual rape.”
Bronk is facing a possible 6-year sentence for using Facebook to break into the women’s emails. He pleaded guilty to seven felonies, and the sentencing should be on March 10. He will also have to register as a sex offender. Does 6 years seem like enough time to serve for this type of crime?
The important thing to learn from this is to work hard to protect your privacy. Pick security questions that you wouldn’t post information about on Facebook. It is scary to think of all the terrible things people could do if they hacked into your email.

I am highly motivated because I'm tired of being fat. I want to be thin again and will not stop until I achieve that goal. Then I will simply maintain a certain weight.
In an earlier post I said I walk 5 miles a day, everyday. I should have written, 5 days a week. I was walking everyday for the first few months but decided it was a good idea not to over exercise.

I haven't been here in a while. I miss you guys.
But the reason I haven't been here in a while is because yay, I got a new contract. It doesn't pay a boatload (or even half a boatload), but every little bit counts - and I'm actually having fun with work for the first time in a VERY long time. Because I get to blog about video games every day! YAY!
Anyway, I made a post today that I thought y'all might smile at, even if you're not a gamer, 'cos I managed to sneak Stevie into it. I'm crafty like that. Scroll all the way down on this post (http://www.ownt.com/kratos-in-mortal-kombat-reboot/) to see what I mean.
And if any of you ARE gamers (or are just interested in my writing?), maybe you can poke around the site more and tell me what you think? I've spent such a long time writing things for other people, using their voice, that it's difficult getting back in the swing of writing in my own style. I've only been writing for this guy for about a month now, and it was sitting dormant for a while before I picked up where they left off, so it's not super busy there yet or anything, but still. I'm pleased.

What the eff is up with that? She's had over five years to record a new album... and she couldn't even scrape together a full set of songs during that time? Back in 2005 she had an excuse- the baby. Well, the kid is now well into grade school, so she has much of the day to spend on other pursuits. A greatest hits album would make sense... if she actually had any hits since her last greatest hits collection 25 years ago. And in that whole time she's only released three studio albums. That's really messed up. :distress:
Eh, but I'm still happy that something new is on the way. Let's just hope it's not like the theme song from "The Golden Compass;" that was terrible.

Each time I hear Go Your Own Way I fall in love again. I know it's a cliche song to love, but it's just breathtakingly exquisite. Why is it that Lindsey has such power to stop me in my tracks with his music, yet he's so underappreciated as an artist? Maybe he'll go the way of Van Gogh and only become truly appreciated after he dies? Please don't let that happen and don't let him die. I want to hang out with him and learn from him :(

Tonight was the second time I've personally witnessed Jennifer Warnes get "escorted" out of a bar after a long night.
If I'm around to see a third, that means I get to record a duet with her, right? I think that's how it works.

The voice control on my new iPod, whom I affectionately dubbed "My Little Demon", is hilarious. I tried conventional names to load my albums, and it worked only once or twice. I got frustrated and began to use curse words. "Poopy" and "Sh.it" both gained the result of Loneliness by Annie Lennox. Tosser recieved "now playing songs by Wham" (Don't judge. I had their Christmas song in my same named playlist). While this was playing, I attempted "Dip****" and got the responce of "his music is already playing". Juvenile of me, but I love my iPod's choices :p Looks like we're going to get on very well indeed XD

Whether this was expected and long overdue or came out of left field, it is still a stressful time in your life and I"m sorry you had it land in your lap today.
I was a young kid when my parents split, so I can't give you any feedback on what it's like as an adult when this happens. But my dad may be going this route with his 2nd marriage soon, so in a way I'm possibly going to relive this as an adult.
I won't lie, it's not going to be easy. Even if your parents are at the point where they are better off apart than together, there will be regret, anger, sadness, euphoria, relief and fighting over something stupid like who bought a pot holder, at any given time. By virtrue of being their child, an adult one at that, you'll probably bear witness to it all in some way, shape or form. Possibly from both sides at times, trying to get you to side with one over the other. Just know that they, along with you, are entering some unchartered territory and you'll all have to find your way through as best as you can. I encourage you to talk with someone, anyone, if and when you need to. Don't suppress anything you are feeling about it cause you are allowed to feel it too.
Having said that, bear in mind that this is really about them and not you and they have to live with the choices they make and you do because you are their child. The one other thing I can say is that I hope they try as much as they can to keep their business (financials and stuff) between them away from you and any siblings (can't remember if you have any). Until my brother graduated college, my parents used my brother and I as pawns to communicate and fight, mostly about money and who should pay for what. It really got ugly at times and made my brother and I feel awful. I know my dad regrets that now. But hindsight is 20/20, right? Hopefully since you are older, you won't find yourself in this situation as much outside of school tuition and other incidentals.
Ah...I'm probably not being very helpful to you at all. I'm sorry. Most of my advice is just reflecting back on the coulda woulda shoulda in my own experience. But if you at least took the time to read this, maybe something I said will resonate with you somewhere down the line.
Here's the last thing I'll say for now. At the end of the day they are still your parents. They will always love you and have a place for you in their lives and you should give them the room to do that. You need to accept them as individuals, faults and mistakes and all and work at keeping up a relationship with both of them. From the very very little I know about you from reading your posts on the Ledge, I know that you haven't had the most storybook upbringing. You probably know it somewhere deep inside, but all those experiences you endured growing up have just made you stronger and really able to cope with that much more, including this impending split. You have the chutzpah to get through it. It will be a long road to get to a more comfortable place, but you will get there.
Again, not sure my words are any wisdom, but I hope it helps...even if just for a moment.

Has anyone heard this slang before, is it new or have any particular meaning?
"Bit*h- a*s".
I was in Lord&Taylor, and a guy (black) maybe 30 said to me "Hey, Bit*h As*" and continued on. He was facing me- so I wonder, does this mean he thought I had a face like B*tch a*s, or seeing he had first walked from behind me, did he think my a*s looked like a woman's, and then faced me to tell me so, or does it have no particular meaning and is just a greeting someone says to strangers at L&T now and walks away?
At the time, as I walked to my car, it made me laugh- then just now, I thought 'what was that?!'

My parent's divorced when I was three, so I can't really relate to how it must feel to have them divorce when you are 18. That being said, I loved having divorced parents.

I used to have a friend with whom me and her referred to each other as "bitch ass" but it was just a term or endearment for us :) Being that this guy was a total stranger, it seems very derogatory, but has no meaning to you specifically. He wasn't being intellectual with his snide term. He was just spewing whatever words came out of his mouth. He could have said, "**** ass" "dick wipe" "Ass Hat" etc..

My Mother's like that too! But then again, she is completely addicted to her computer. Me, I'd rather go on mystery tours with myself and my iPod. But I do enjoy a few hours of internet a day, as long as I have the time for it of course. *shifty*. Alright....In the evening if I have got the time I will be hooked. After this last snowstorm I was asking the female clerk at the store if she had any trouble getting to work that morning. She said she didn't.
I asked her, "did you ride through the snow in an old fashioned carriage, drawn by a small golden horse?"
She looked at me as if I were on drugs and I just smiled and said, "song lyrics."

I made myself unpopular with one of my Teachers when I first met him. I heard that his name was Joseph, so instead of saying hello when I was walking in I said "Hey Joe. Where you going with that Gun in your hand?". He wasn't a Hendrix fan... In fact he was devoutly religeous in the Ned Flanders extremity.

I've had a pool, for 9 years now, and I've only had ONE snake experience, so far. One that was on my solar cover, that played DEAD, when it saw me, messing with it. With the "skimmer net", I threw it 30' from the pool. Several hours later, my neighbor's cat, was sneaking around the shrubs by my garage. SAME SNAKE! The cat had it wriggling in it's mouth!!!! I ran to the garage, grabbed a shovel, and chopped him into itty bitty pieces!

Probably not, but I have had reports that they have been found near or actually swimming in pools.

Was it a non-lethal species?
Because a tiger snake has a 60% mortality rate. Great to know its living underneath the rock outside of my room.
Oh, and in Australia killing a snake for fun or in defence is illegal. Laws these days.
For killing a Tiger Snake, you get a $7,500 fine and a 18 month jail sentence.

It struck me - when I was walking lazily in the dark with the neon lights and dim lights from the shop windows glowing - what I really ultimately want in life. Freedom. Freedom to walk where I like without having parents at home worrying. Freedom to dissappear for days and weeks on end and not have to answer to anybody. This. Is. Bliss.
