So can they remove the lymph node? With my Mom's pancreatic cancer, once it had spread to lymph nodes, there was nothing they could do(okay, there "could" have been REALLY long operation, called a Whipple Procedure[if memory serves], where they remove the pancreas, gall bladder, and a BUNCH of other stuff...but they first biopsy a lymph node, and if it's positive, they don't go through with the operation. They came out after about 30 minutes, and told us she'd be out of surgery, in a few minutes, so I[me, and my damned research] knew, that there was no hope. And sure enough, the doctor confirmed what I knew.

Maybe some lymph nodes can be removed, prior to it spreading to others?
Obviously, I hope so. I'm glad to hear she's so strong with this.

Edit - I just read the link. Awesome news!!!!

Good for you! I've got a DVD date, in about an hour. We're going nice and slow, this time(just a couple of dates a week), and it seems to be paying off.

Quietly, peacefully and respectfully, with communication
between both partners and meaningful negotions over
"trouble spots" in which concerns and boundaries are
mutually respected? And with a great variety of diverse
activities with an equal balance between those each partner
is interested in? And with a mutual "sharing" of equal power
which is also founded on respect???

Or is that just on tv . . . . ;)

Ugh... Right? Ok, i'm not crazy when i was like what the hell is all this when I woke up to another foot and a half of snow this morning. I'm DREADING going out to shovel my car out again.

At the rate we are going, we should mark February 26th down as the next big storm. The two big ones so far were exactly 1 month apart. Which means we've had snow on the ground for 1 month solid. I cannot remember a time ever where we've had this in the NYC metro area...maybe in the 70s, but i was a little tyke then.

In recent years, we might have 1-2 inches here, 2-3 inches there, some mixed precip one morning, but not 40+ inches in a month.

I took the Metro North train to work this morning, which is elevated once you go above 96th Street. It was eerie (but beautiful) to see the streets of Harlem completely deserted; usually 125th Street is abuzz. I can't stand the inconvenience, but I love those fleeting moments when the city is so white, pristine and quiet. I'm sure it will be all brown, slushy and manky by the time I get back home tonight.

People were walking down York Avenue, stopping to take cellphone pictures of the white fluffiness before it got all messed up. That's fine, except was trying to walk to work and the sidewalk is narrow as it is, outta my way people!

York Avenue? Isn't that somewhere up in Connecticut? :p Two days after the Christmas blizzard I had to dig my car out; it was parked on the street and literally buried to the point where I couldn't find it at first. Next thing I know, people were taking pictures of me as I was digging (for three hours!), as if to say "look at this unfortunate moron." At first, I was thinking of saying, "take a picture, it will last longer," until I realized that's what they were actually doing!

This winter is punishing, for PA, NJ, NY and CT. 19 inches of snow fell last night, on top of more than 2 feet still on the ground in my yard. Where the city snowplows push the snow at the end of my driveway, the mound is as tall as I am- 6 feet.
People not in the states affected don't realize how huge and unprecedented the storms are in this area- This was the 8th storm since Dec. 26 in CT, and it's unreal.
Driving, when one can, y'all can't see to take a left turn and cross traffic without being hit head on, the snowbanks are so high. Go the long way, or die ;)
We need a thaw! My gutters have been filled with ice for weeks. The hanging icicles are monstrosities.
Like H. wrote, it is "eerie (but beautiful)", but is also hazardous beyond belief. (Sort of like my own self, har!)*

They do--thank god! I spent three semesters at a college in Vermont, known for its Environmental Studies. It's a VERY eco school, and despite the mountains of snow they get, they don't even salt the walkways, because it's bad for the environment. I try really hard to be as environmentally friendly as I can, but that was totally ridiculous. It's a very hilly school, and kids broke limbs falling every year. I kept thinking that if they were walking alone at night, something really bad could happen.

I transferred to a school in NYC, where I grew up, and I really can't complain about the snow ever again!

yeah, eco-friendly good...eco-friendly in a place where it snows for months straight...not so good!! But see, you got the Vermont feel in NYC. What school by the way? I'm just across the Hud river from you in Edgewater.

I went to school in Indiana (IU-Bloomington) and I remember 2 distinct weather events. In my freshman year (winter 1994) the wind chills were like -40 or something and it was so cold cars and buses wouldn't start so they canceled classes. Then my junior year (winter 1996) the Blizzard of '96 occurred -- which affected pretty much anyone east of the Mississippi if memory serves. I remember flying over that storm and when I landed in Indy, the snow banks were just under the plane wings. It took me 2 days to dig my car out. Anyway, i just remember walking through campus a few days later and you could tell where someone in one of those Bobcats went through and cleared the paths. They were only wide enough to walk single file. I remember the snow was about 3 feet high and i felt like i was going to class in some sort of bobsled track. You couldn't see anything!

File it under "Global Warming". Doesn't just mean that the earth's temperature is rising, it means that weather patterns go postal to the extremes. It's just going to get worse. Especially, when more of the Arctic Ice Cap melts and the ocean levels rise...enjoy New Orleans, the Florida Keys, the Virginia coast, SoCal, etc, while you can, they'll eventually be underwater.

Seriously, though. We all know that us as a race are going to doom ourselves to extinction in one way or another. We were a bad idea. Be it from an evolution/creationist/whatever you believe in. We're a selfish species who ultimately cause destruction by striving for material needs and wealth. It's just a shame that our greed is going to drag the rest of the planet's lifeforms with us when the big GW really does get heavy.

My house is small and I seriously did not realize how much stuff I had until I went through it all. I threw a lot out. Mine and my sister's room are in the basement so all of my stuff is in the small space outside my room. There is a little path to my sisters room haha. I have my mattress on my floor now and I love it, but my bed is like half my storage in my room so I'm enjoying it while it lasts.

That's a good idea with the two mattresses. Big beds are nice, but when I sleep on them I sleep only on one side so there would be no use for me to get one.

Not going to lie when I put my bed on my floor today the first thing I thought of was spiders. Not necessarily that they were going to eat my brains but more about that I'm closer to them. Spiders have a weird attraction to my room and I'm the only one in the house that hates them.

I don't think I could ever put up with winter again. My brother in Ohio said he hasn't seen the sun pop out in 3 weeks. It's 72 today and supposed to be 74 tomorrow and I just got back from running some errands this morning and snapped some pics along the way.

What's CleverBot? Is that one of those machines that you can add on MSN? A few years back, everyone was buzzing over Smarterchild

I discovered during my argument that it believes all religions that aren't Christianity are just wrong, I'm ignorant for not believing in God and - oh yeah! It's a wee bit rascist. What a lovely bot lol!

I just got back from getting my hair cut. My friend and I were the last ones and then they were closing. A lady walked in and asked if they were open and they said no. She asked if anyone else was open. Heather the person who does my friends hair didn't know. Then the lady started crying and said her hair was falling out and she wanted to get it shaved. Of course Heather let her stay. I honestly wish I could have stayed with her because she was all by herself, but we had to leave since it was snowing once again and getting bad. As soon as I walked into my house I started bawling and now I'm crying again.

Middlebury. Wish I'd been closer to Burlington--it's a great city, but my friends and I ended up going a couple of times.

You being a Middlebury woman makes so.much.sense.

I wish I had a more developed palette. My friend is throwing a dinner party tonight and making spinach pie. I'm the four year old who doesn't want to eat her vegetables.

This is scary. I'm applying to the University of Chester to do a two year Master Of The Arts course once my Batchelors Degree is through. I'll be so far away from home that I won't even be able to visit on weekends. So scared but thrilling!

I hope you get accepted. I think it will be good for you to be on your own.

My friend said that if she does well in the course (Let's just say we're not holding our breath considering the effort she's put in), applies for Chester and thus gets accepted, we can have a house share. That would be great. But if not I'll definitely go it alone. I feel like if I don't get out of this house and dead end town while I have the opportunity I never will.

Not sure if this is the right place for this but I could use some advice. I'm thinking of contacting my dad on Facebook, I haven't seen him since I was 7, but he messages my mum now and then asking how I do with exams and stuff like that, so I figure he cares but it could be my mum getting in the way. She doesn't like him as far as I know and might go bananas if she finds out about me talking to him behind her back... and even then I don't really know how I'm supposed to approach messaging him like that. Does anyone have any advice?

I'd think about it long and hard, if I were you. Until you know for sure one way or another. Maybe even consider sitting down with your Mother and having a real conversation about him, telling her how much getting to know your Dad again means to you. And how important it is to you to just know him. And most importantly; that it doesn't mean you love her any less and that you're any less grateful for the hard work she's put into raising you over the years. Just bare in mind that if you do contact him you run the risk of being severely dissappointed. Although I suppose you'll at least know for sure. But just prepare yourself because it's a big step.

Just do what your heart says, like in Wuthering Heights - when Linton and Cathy are sending letters to each other. If you really want to contact him do it - but like Cathy you will have to face consequences.

It's impossible to talk to my mum about anything  I've met my dad before and I know he's not that great... it's just it couldn't hurt to try, maybe I'll be able to trust him and there's a big lack of people I can trust in my life. Plus I'd like to meet my step-brother, and I have an uncle on that side of the family around my age(!) that I'd really like to talk to again. So all I have to worry about is my mum. I'll try and talk to her and maybe she'll see where I'm coming from...

How old are you, Rick? I think you have every right so see your father, but I would strongly caution against going into this looking for trust. If your expectations are too high, you run the risk of getting hurt. I don't know what your relationship with your mom is like, but I am guessing if you approach the subject in the way you described, she will go even more into protection mode. Good luck- this is a tough situation.

Cher, absolutely. I sing Cher songs very well because I realize she's a female hybrid of Elvis and Mr. Ed the Talking Horse. So when she goes really low for "... don't you sometimes wish your heart was made of stah-ah-oh-oh-one," I get all horsey and chortley. It's so much fun!

ME TOO! Love Shines, to me, is the epitome of what a FM song should be, and it should have been a big hit for them. That chorus kicks in, and it's EVERYTHING a FM should be. Classic Christine FM!
One of my top five FM songs, ever.

I had a cool dream last night. I was walking into the record store(do such places still exist?) and noticed there was hardly any CD's on all the shelves. I asked the guy at the register if they were going out of business? He said they weren't. I then asked if I could place an order for the new Fleetwood Mac album. He wiped his forehead and said, "woa, the rush of pre orders for that album just blows me away." I asked if I could see a promo pic of the record. He showed me the paper. The album is titled THANK YOU and it has a bluish-gray background with white winged doves(hey, this is a dream. I have no control here) flying up from the ground with great, wide wings. There's some type of 3D hologram on it that when you hold it, makes it appear to be flapping in real time.

The album(it was an LP, not a CD) features all their best songs in demo and outtake form, written in or around 1976. It says on the front it features Rhiannon recorded in 1976(demo).

The only thing in the dream that dissapointed me was the fact that THANK YOU was being released the same day as IN YOUR DREAMS.

Also in my dream, when I went to sign on The Ledge to report this good news, there were already a bunch of fans griping about the 2 CD's having the same release date.

Hey, British youth on this board.... I really need your help.

I'm transferring from my college and I'm seriously considering going to school in England. If any of you have insight on British universities and/or the application process, I'd be forever grateful if you could message me so I can ask some questions. I've already bombarded Lucy but I need to hear from as many people as possible.

I can help you out there if you want, I did the whole application thing last year and I have friends who are doing it now. :)

Although, unless you're really well-off or can get an education loan in America that'll let you study in the UK, I'd personally advise against it, unless you transfer over this year, you'll have to pay at least £9000 a year for tuition alone, which is insane. :(

Drinking liberal amounts of Red Bull and watching Bill Hicks back to back isn't really a good idea in hindsight. Faith. Lost. In. Everything. But. Rock. Music. Praise the Lord and pass the Ammo! Am all shook up!

On another note. I just hate being so trapped by my work that I can't keep up with things here and thus err my thoughts. I have so much work to get done at the moment that I'm considering paying for a Clone on the installment plan. Preferably Stephen Fry's Clone so he can earn me an A for my Dissertation while I make pretty things :p

Ah, Silver Springs- you are learning quickly because you're so brill. Sometimes one's body just needs time to catch up with the energy needed for a thriving and striving mind. Your little body just needs some 'me' time- be it drinking Red Bull and watching Bill Who and enjoying rock music. It's just recharging your batteries, taking some time for yourself- so that the section I underlined that you wrote bec0mes one of those things you will love, again- though sometimes hate. For the rest of your life: Love.Slash.Hate- for all those thoughts and work that will take you where you want to be.
You wouldn't want to be "normal" in the bad way, would you? It's "normal" in a GOOD way to say 'today has been cancelled due to a lack of motivation' and just enjoy laying up in the bed, drinking the Red Bull, putting some music on loud on the headphones, and watching some tv. Part of being young. Take a page from Miss Scarlett's Guide To Living-- think about it tomorrow! Enjoy today doing nothing, take tomorrow if you need it too. By Wednesday the work will be welcomed. That's one of the best parts of being young.
Me, I'm shooting for March- for remnants of motivation :)
Enjoying one's 'down time' is essential to putting up with the bullsh*t that is life.
Slack off, sweetie :)
For a tad longer...

Yeah, you could always come here to the land of the Welsh where the tuition fees aren't rising, but the universities here are a bit crap apparently. I'm going to England for music uni for that reason despite the tuition fees :distress:

I think that, if you're Scottish, it's still free. And if you're English/Welsh and go to a Scottish uni, you only pay half... of the old fees. Which is ridiculous.

My current tuition is $32,000.... education is so much more expensive in the United States. That's JUST tuition, not room and board and other living expenses. Luckily I have a big scholarship but I'm still paying much more than you are.

I've only really looked into universities connected with the University of London but if you have any recommendations for a literature major, let me know!

That's not terribly short for a girl. I have a guy friend, though, who's 5'2". Now that is short, for a guy. He always jokes that he's "pocket size". He even made his middle name Pocket, on FB.

I'm 5'10". White male average. I'd rather be shorter than taller, though. If I had to pick.

Also, know what? I think Yankees are taller. Around here, I have SO many friends that are 6'2" PLUS. I have one that's 6'6"! So I feel like a midget, especially when I'm around more than one of them at a time. Moving on, I should've written this earlier, but while we were talking about height and my fun-sizeness, I just realized something else that has gotten me into some fun: the fact that I have a very young face. I'll be turning 21 in August and people tend to think I'm 15-16, and the folks that give out samples in Costco doubt I'm the minimum age to take a sample, which is 12. Yes, they think I'm 8 years younger than I actually am. Then again, I did hang out one day with this guy Jim, who turned out to be 8 years older than me and had been in the army before going back to school

I'm sick of my car getting pelted with the sand on the roads (and it just needs to stop snowing so I can wash it). At least it's been getting warmer around here

As for the hot days, I'm thankful for my house's central A/C (except it didn't really come in use a few years back, when our old one broke, which was over 20 years old, and had water coming through the ceiling. Throw in a heat wave during the week it broke and me working as a camp counselor that summer and it's a recipe for disaster ), but I don't have a pool (backyard isn't big enough cause we have a retaining wall) and all my friends dorm during the school year and live far away from me (OK, most live in the city an hour away from me, but I had a friend Ross who lived in Florida and a friend Nathalie who lives in Maryland) and I don't exactly like the people I went to high school with, but either way, you're too lucky getting to have a pool! :blob1:

I have to go watch my cousin act in a pantomime later. WHY?!?!?! I HATE panto. She didn't come to my art exhibition or anything like that yet I'm expected to sit through this pile of dross for 2 hours and miss Skins later. I'm tired, cranky, hungry and can't be arsed with anything. I want a night in with my computer, the fabulous new book I'm reading and my Ab Fab DVDs not a stupid panto. I'm not 8 anymore.

It's a very English theatrical tradition that I think most people outside of the UK just wouldn't get!

The thing I can't imagine the most, is fear of being mugged or raped. Although I was almost mugged two different times in Nashville, this year.

Yeah, I think it's easier being a man...

I was car jacked a few years back while I was kneeling down and putting air in my tire at a gas station. The guy cocked his pistol and stuck it against my temple and demand my keys. That's the only time in my entire life anyone has ever messed with me. It was probably my fault, though... being a dumb male, I didn't have a second thought about putting air in my tire in the middle of Charlotte's ghetto of ghettos. I guess I'm still just plain stupid... being robbed still isn't anything that ever crosses my mind.

Stop being me.
I know, it never occurs to me, that I could get robbed. So, I'm a tight ass. When I go on my frequent trips to Nashville, unless it's pouring down, I walk from my hotel to downtown, about a 20 minute walk. Well, if I cut through this -vacant at night- industrial district, it saves me about 6 blocks of walking. Well, I never will again! So, the first week of January, I'm walking downtown, about 9PM. These four...."guys"(I could add labels, but would probably be called names, for doing so), spread evenly across the street(I was walking down the center, because that's where the best light is), with me in the middle of them. Talk about scared ****less! When the were about 30' from me, I pulled out my phone, and dialed 911, and visibly had my thumb on "send". Now, I can't say for sure that they saw this, but that's the only reason I can figure, that they let me pass. Because there's no doubt in my mind, that they were going to fukc with me.
The other incident, was a week ago Sunday. It was 20 degrees, so I figured the crack dealers would be inside. This time, two of them approached me, on the same stretch of street. I pulled my knife from my pocket, and visibly slung the blade out, and held it out.....and walked between them, with them each about 2' on either side of me.

Yep, I'm NEVER walking through that area, again. Ever.

I can't choose...
Barnes and Noble has these leather bound books, but I only have enough money left on my gift card for one. There's too many. This would be so much easier if I didn't own all of Jane Austen's books because that would have been my number one choice.
Narnia- I already have all of them and read them, but they are old and falling apart.
Charles Dickens, Jules Verne, or The Vampire Chronicles- I don't own any of the books in each of these and I'll pretty much read anything, but I'm afraid that I might not like the books in them.
Hans Christian Andersen and Grimm's Fairy Tales- I think it would be cool to own the two Fairy tale books as 2 leather bound books, but of course I already have Grimm's.
Sherlock Holmes- I really want to read these two, but I'd rather get 4 or 5 books in one than 2.

Sorry for my little book rant. I love books and I love buying books so I have such a hard time choosing. I could spend and hours in a bookstore just looking around and deciding what to buy.

I think it's between Sherlock Holmes and Charles Dickens now. My first choice was Sherlock Holmes and then I saw the other ones. My friend loves Charles Dickens and we pretty much read the same books. I might just buy both because they aren't that much. I'll just have to cover whatever my gift card doesn't cover. This sounds weird, but I have "The Ghosts Are Gone" playing in my head. I am either channeling this new song out of the ether... or I've just spontaneously written a song based on a random song title! But it's definitely Stevie singing the song in my head. It's a bit of a frantic song with lots of acoustic guitars, swirling strings and a manic drum beat. It's not unlike Eurythmics "When Tomorrow Comes," but faster and in a minor key; she's literally screaming out THE GHOSTS. are. go-o-o-one... God, I wish I had an acoustic guitar and a tape recorder...
