You know, for me, the main thing was.....I've always been a loner, of sorts. I mean, I always had friends....but I enjoyed my solitude, a little too much. Plus, a bad relationship, 10 years previous, left me completely heartbroken, and I'd really just given up on love. Not on life, but on love.

So, I woke up last Aug, on vacation, and it was like a cloud had been lifted. I was over being heartbroken, and I was over being alone. It was quite the epiphany!!! So it really all started with me wanting to get into shape. I lost 45 lbs, started dating, and just had a new outlook on life. Funny....before....I had no interest in Facebook, or texting, of much of anything social(my social life consisted of hanging out at a neighborhood redneck bar....there were a lot of good friends there, but it wasn't much of a life). Now, I'm a FB addict, and have friends out the ying yang, and party invitations constantly.
I did actually go on a vacation, by myself, 3 weeks ago, and I'm going again, next week, but I'm okay with that. Texting and FB on my phone, make it almost like being home with friends.;)

But, for the most part, I've murdered the loner in me.:blob2::blob2::blob2:

Ahh I can relate, I've only been in love once but that ended badly enough to put me off it for the foreseeable future! I've rekindled a few friendships though and have cut some horrible "friends" out of my life. Hard to avoid them at school and all but it's going well... I'll probably never completely stop being a recluse, but I'm a lot more confident now and I'm ready to start having some kind of social life again :blob2:

TGIF!!! I avoided a client today..WOOOO lol I am SOOOOO scared to get a client....but after the day went on I was kinda sad I didnt get a client....but its okay. I have another 5 months for clients LOL At the same time I hate school because I'm friends with people but of course they are closer to other people and hang out with them more and dont include me in everything and what not...like Sam and Jen and Sarah....they all do stuff on eachother and I'm the loner =( No one asks me to do stuff on them and it makes me sad...but whatever...I have like almost my whole Sophmore packet done and they dont...HHEHEHEHE

So yea....JTIS

That was me, for a decade. And really too, only ONE real love. A few pseudo copies, but very pale, in comparison.. Sad, I know. Born again, here, though :D(don't read religion into that, please)

And as I've become a social being again, I've also realized, that some friends, aren't real friends, but negative Nancy/Neds. And life is too short, to put up with that sh*t.

I'm NEVER walking through town at 3am again. Me and my friend were coming back from the Harry Potter midnight showing, when these drunken idiots started hollering at her.

"NO WAY IS HE BUCKING HER. LOOK HOW GORGEOUS SHE IS. OH MY GOD, THEY'RE WALKING HOME TOGETHER. HE IS BUCKING HER. COME HERE SWEETHEART, I WANNA BUCK YOU TONIGHT"

My friend was about ready to lose her temper, but I made her carry on walking because she's literally the size of a twig

But really, some people are so... crude. It's like... where did the manners go?

It's crap like that, that makes me worry for society.

That somebody is right. You get the feeling on the album that Bob's been taking too many of the blue pills. Which is a shame because he's such a great artist and lyricist. But he's allowed the cheese to win him over.

Nerd rant incoming!

So today "The Shattering" is happening on World of Warcraft. My life consists of two things: This game, and Fleetwood Mac. Basically, the entire game world is changing in an apocalyptic event. It's a very bittersweet moment since everything I've come to love is changing, but there will be a whole new world to explore. Last night, I spent about 5 hours just wondering around one last time, taking screenshots to remember it all later:

The first one is me paying respects to Cairne, a leader that dies today :(
<a href="http://s214.photobucket.com/albums/cc314/b-oston_a-beezy/?action=view&amp;current=WoWScrnShot_112310_021909-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc314/b-oston_a-beezy/WoWScrnShot_112310_021909-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

This is me spending time in my favorite zone, where I wondered around for days in my noob times because I had no idea what I was doing
<a href="http://s214.photobucket.com/albums/cc314/b-oston_a-beezy/?action=view&amp;current=WoWScrnShot_112310_020008-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc314/b-oston_a-beezy/WoWScrnShot_112310_020008-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Thanks. It's so much fun! Now, I LIKE country music, so that's a big part of it. But all of the venues aren't strictly country. But downtown, on Broadway and 2nd avenue, there are about 50 live music venues! No cover charge, at any of them(afaik). I spent 7 weeks there, last year! This year has been a little more financially challenging, so this will only be my 4th week, spent there. Although I'm off on New Year's Eve....the first New Year's Eve I've ever had off(I play in a band, and this is the first time we've not booked a gig on NYE). So I'm planning on going back again, probably the day after Christmas, and ENJOY my first NYE off! So that will make 5 weeks, this year.

But I have to go back to the mall and exchange a pair of sweatpants because I bought the wrong ones!! GRRR lol

I need some MAJOR music help.
I'm currently doing piano - and even though I've been doing it for a year and a half now, my teacher is still making me do the same old nursery rhymes on the piano. I ask him if he can give me some rock, but he says I need to practice more... how can I practice if he does not give me anything interesting to play.
I am not learning piano to play inside a hall, wearing a suit and playing a grand. I am trying to tell him that I am playing to rock out a 70's wooden panel Hammond.

Anyone have any tips?

IT'S EVERYWHERE. SO MUCH OF IT. Make it go away. I'm sick of nearly falling over whenever I go out, and getting wet feet.

Where abouts do you live in the UK?

Yesss make it go away :( The walk home that normally takes me ten minutes took me half an hour yesterday. My school closed like an hour early... without letting the bus companies know...

Meowi you either need to get a different teacher or let him know that you're sick of nursery rhymes, because of a horrible teacher who wouldn't let me do what I want I stopped playing guitar for six months about three years back. No matter what he says at the end of the day there's no point in playing if you don't enjoy it.

Had my 2nd Bravo housewives spotting today. A few weeks back I saw Danny (the thug who hung with Danielle from the NJ series) at the mall and today I was 2 feet away from Kelly from NY at Newark airport. She was with her two girls and spent the whole time on her blackberry. I stood behind them at a Starbucks and then we crossed paths again in baggage claim. I certainly wasn't going to say anything since she was with her kids. No one else seemed to notice her either, so hopefully these people really do get a few moments of living like the rest of us. As soon as I spotted my friend i was picking up, I bolted across the airport and was pointing her out like the crazy person she normally is. Oh well. Can't wait to see who I run into next!!

Before I moved to FL last January, me and my brother were at the store together buying groceries early last winter in Ohio and out in the parking lot he said "It has been grey skies and no sun for 2 MONTHS now..." and that is what I think about whenever I do get homesick for home. I absolutely hate winter. Yeah, it'd be nice on Christmas day but come December 26th you guys still have a few more months of windshield scraping and driveway shoveling and I don't miss THAT!

Viv on my morning walk this morning around 8, I was just walking along looking down and saw something dart from the palmetto scrub about 100 ft away, and it was a bobcat getting ready to dart across the road  and it saw me but paid no attention. It was trying to beat an oncoming car and did. It vanished into some bushes on the other side of the street. I didn't have my camera or phone or I would've snapped a pic. Speaking of raccoons, these are the critters we encounter everytime we picnic at the southern end of Lido Beach Park. And yes they're out in broad daylight and don't care. They come right up to you if you want them to.

Well they're just unpredictable once they move in. You would've been fine, they'll tell you days ahead whether it looks like your area's going to be hit with one or not and they follow their every move once a depression forms. I'm just glad I made it through my first year here without one. I live just a few minutes inland, I think I'd be more paranoid living right on the water, as beautiful and nice as that would be. I just feel safer being inland some and not having to take the brunt. That's what the barrier islands are for though naturally.

Thank you! The new apartment actually is great, and the landlord seems awesome so far - they even gave me a 3 bedroom for the price of a 2 bedroom. And the rent is still less expensive than the house was. I think the electric & gas bills will be a lot less spendy, too, because the apartment building is brand new, with energy efficient windows and suchlike. Once I get everything unpacked, I will take pictures.

Six months ago today, I randomly met someone who would, unbeknownst to me, be a big part of my day-to-day life months later.

It's funny how the tiny things in life all add up to produce an experience, and if one of those things had been slightly different, the experience never would have happened. It makes me believe in fate, and have hope and resilience when many other people would have given up. This can be a fault on my part, but I guess that's just my mentality.... destiny rules.

Lilac Wine was always my favourite of his. I love how each song is treated like a work of art, with the same amount of effort and love as the others. Some bands you can just get the vibe with some songs that they're just filler, and have been whipped up in ten minutes. Jeff must have worked painstakingly on each one of his masterpieces.

My understanding is there is no "time" in Heaven and everything is happening in God's "now" so loved ones who've passed know we'll be right along with them in a few "minutes" to them up there. Even though it could be another 80 years in earthly time. Makes sense really.

^^^Don't say " Very Important People," because , then you add the intimidation factor as well. Being nervous is normal. You said their is a podium, so hold on to that, and if you can't make eye contact, just pick a focal point at random, and speak to that. Deep breathes before you start, and just remember that they are the same as you "people".

I'm trying to remember tips from my Public Speaking classes in college. One tip I remember was keeping something in your pocket which you can fiddle with your hands... like those relaxation stone thingies. Apparently it helps direct nervous energy into a repetitive task, and you can keep your focus on what you're saying instead of freaking out. Best of luck!! :wavey:

I've been around assertive supervisors and HR personnel and in plenty of meetings the past few years, I don't see what's so scary as long as you know the subject you're addressing and keep focused. I've watched many people address a crowd and how they handle it and you are everyone you meet in life, they say, so I think it helps you when you're up there in front of everyone. Some people are just naturally shy though.

I'm dissappointed in myself, so there's no reason for others to do it for me. Even though I heard my parents break up (they don't know I was awake listening in), they have kept quiet about it and not mentioned it in front of me. I, like the fool that I am, allowed myself to drop my guard and just think that maybe, if I'm lucky, they'll make up again. Because they'd been speaking to each other in a civil manner since the spat. But last night I noticed my Mum slamming alot of doors, which is always a bad sign, and this morning she was barely speaking to my Dad at all. Being the Idiot that I am, I asked if they'd had an argument. This made my Mum cry and then she proceeded to tell me that he'd been on Facebook flirting again *facepalm*. I was happier not knowing that.... I just wish he'd stop being such a Douchebag and consider other people's feelings. He's never once wondered how I felt in all of this. Neither of them had. Even when he took me aside the night of the biggest fight (when it came out about his affair) and told me not to get into a relationship with somebody I didn't love, I didn't say anything to them about it. Mum doesn't need to know that he doesn't love us. It's hurting me too much to let it hurt her.

Don't put yourself into the adult role, even though it sounds like you are being forced to do so. If your father doesn't love your mother, it doesn't mean he doesn't love you. You are giving yourself way too much responsibility for their issues. Asking questions doesn't cause their problems. I'm sorry you're going through this- I wish all parents would have enough strength to stop the drama and protect their children from their own bull****.

On a lighter note, I am slightly embarrassed to say that the "talk" I am giving today is only a (long) introduction! I am introducing a client of mine who is reading a (beautiful) poem she wrote. She is reading it in front of about 100 women who form an organization in our community- this organization raises a LOOOOOT of money for our non-profit agency and the luncheon is being held at one of my coommunity's most posh country clubs. I am nervous because I want to give my client a seriously awesome introduction. Drats. What the ef is it? I don't think it's either of the above. Oh wait- was this the date back in 1981 that SN played her LA dates at the theater on Wilshire in LA? It was December. But that wouldn't disappoint you in this forum.
Make it easy, tell me off for everyone who disappointed you. Maybe they're sorry :)
I'm sorry you're disappointed.
If she is reading this or reads me at all, I hope that Danielleaarison hears that her grandmother is doing better. I think relationships that seem prematurely over often aren't over, so I hope she gets what she wants and think that she may. By next weekend. That's a long wait when things are young and grim. I get hunches about others yet have few for myself. That danged texting seems to cause more grief, but I do think a ringing phone is often even more cause for panic. People should only text with good news, and only call to tell you there's a ton of money you didn't know about.

It was sunny and warmed up and there were people out in shorts and lounging around in chairs or walking the beach for shells. I sat there in mine watching boats out on the water thinking about how everyone up north including most my family have it so different as they look outside. After searching for a full decade, I finally tracked down the younger half-brother I was rumored to have. I was told by my Mother's Sister 10 years ago that my biological Dad fathered a child with another woman after he and my Mom divorced. But I never knew the boy's name, his mother's name, or anything. Yesterday, 1 day after the 15th anniversary of my biological Father's death, I found my half brother's birth records online. I then found him on Myspace and sent him a message explaining the whole deal, and am waiting to see if I hear back from him. Even if I don't, this is a 10 year mystery that I am so glad to have solved. It's nice to have a name and to see a face of someone who shares my same blood. It's like the most giant weight has been lifted off my shoulders :).

Yep.

I was adopted at birth, and always told that my Mom knew no details of my birth parents. About 15 years ago, I was telling her that I'd like to know, if only for my medical history. I even told her that I had tried to investigate my birth records before, to no avail. She then asked me if I really wanted to know(WTF? I guess she had NO IDEA of the void that ~not knowing~ created in my life)?

Anyway, she came clean, and told me that I have a Mother, 2 brothers, and a sister, living 1000 miles away. I was on the phone with the mother, that night(after leaving Mom's, so it wouldn't hurt her). 3-4 weeks later, I was there, meeting them all. Surreal, to say the least. I still see the mother, 2-3 times a year, and occasionally see the siblings.

So yeah, I know how cathartic it is, to go through this.

Glad you sent it, and glad I was able to help :)

SHE is the one who is brave and bad-ass! I'm just her silly therapist. :)

I am sure you did just fine. :) I think it's easier to talk about someone else than oneself. Personal, sincere introductions are always the best.

Since we're on the topic of public speaking, thank the stars that this semester is (almost) over for me. I taught three sections of public speaking, with 25 students enrolled in each course. During the semester, one kid ran out in the middle of her speech in tears, another passed out in front of the class, and another was on the verge of a panic attack. NEVER again am I teaching 3 sections of this course in one semester!

*Blush* I did that during my last seminar, I was that panic stricken. Talking in front of people en masse is one of my biggest fears. I'm trying to get over it by not thinking so much about what I have to say before I actually start the seminar, but it's still horrible.

My client received a standing ovation. It was SO powerful and so healing for her.

The adoption stories above really remind me how glad I am that I am in an open adoption. My daughter will never grow up wondering.

:xoxo: Most people (around 80%) have some apprehension about public speaking. I try to really encourage good preparation and rehearsal; we try deep breathing, etc. I firmly believe that everyone can become a competent speaker. A great orator- perhaps not, but effective.

One thing that is particularly alarming to me is the number of communication majors who hate public speaking. WTF?

This is great to hear! :wavey: I have a younger half-brother but my dad isn't part of my life and so I've never met him. I didn't meet my dad until I was 7, then he stayed in my life for a few months before giving up and I haven't seen him since. He still talks to my mum on Facebook, asked her about my exam results this year but didn't ask if I wanted to meet my brother

A girl I went to high school with was in a major car crash last weekend. She was hit by three different cars. After the first car hit, she was only mildly injured but stuck in the middle of the freeway with both of her car doors collapsed. She was trying to get out when the other two hit her. Everyone else was virtually unharmed, yet Caroline suffered severe head trauma and has been in a coma for a week now with no signs of progress. She's had three different surgeries to reduce the swelling in her brain but it's not looking good. She is one of the top water polo players in Northern California and was getting recruited for colleges before the accident. At this point, no one knows what she'll be like if she makes it out of the coma....

It's just so incredibly sad. This is the first time I've ever known someone in a physically critical condition. My high school is overflowing with support-- twice daily prayer services, counselors working overtime to help students struggling with it. It feels so wrong for me to be away from St. Francis right now-- the school has such a strong and supportive community and I feel like I should be there during such a devastating time.

Keep Caroline Hansen in your prayers.

Also, remember the axe-murder (literally.... a murderer with an axe) that killed a man two blocks from my school a few weeks ago? Well, looks like he killed another guy only 24 HOURS before. With the same freakin' hatchet. Yaaaaaaay Capitol Hill....

I just finished producing my annual business Christmas cards for my clients. I take a piece of paper and have fun decorating it from scratch. I am so creative. You will know if you ever recieve a greeting card from me. For as long as I can remember I've been making art in a card.

My grandma was just diagnosed with lung cancer. She's having surgery tomorrow but there's only a 75% chance she'll make it out since she's almost 80 years old.

This week has sucked SO much.

I know sorry probably isn't what you want to hear right now. But I really am. If you ever want to talk, I'm only a PM away. I lost my Nanna four years ago through lung disease (COPD). I know it's only a wee bit similar, but grief is grief, no matter what the shade. I really hope that she makes it.
