Why does power on the East Coast seem to go out at the drop of a hat? Is it just because they get snow/ice so regularly? I can't tell you the last time we had a power outage that lasted more than 15 seconds. Of course, in Texas it only rains twice a year and if we get 2 inches of show, the entire city shuts down.

I don't think it goes out that often. This was a really bad storm. I'm sure it goes out more often up here because of weather. but I haven't lost power for more than a minute or two in several years.

We had a storm like that back in October 2006 - a huge amount of ice & snow came too early in season & the leaves were still on the trees. More than half the trees in Buffalo cracked/fell/were damaged in some way. Many trees died & had to be cut down - it will take years to recover from that damage. We were without power for almost a week - I feel for you guys. It was a f*cking nightmare.

On another note I have been thinking about your recent posts about your life and your moments with the boyfriend and it makes me wonder if I am better off alone or not.

Well, it depends. My bf isn't terrible - he's just needy and I'm probably the most introverted person who ever lived. Plus, I think 75% of my moodiness/depression over the last month or so is because I'm stopping the Zoloft and it's fcking with my head.

Still...if you're single, a relationship is not the answer to all your problems. Relationships are hard - especially for someone like me, who does not like answering to other people or being involved in their problems.

Uck. I've been back a few hours from my Endoscopy procedure and I feel like crap. I asked for a Sedative because I was curious about the effects (I've had it done before without and was fine) and I seriously wish I hadn't. I feel like the walking dead. Mum had to help guide me through the hospital and to the taxi cab and she walked me into a bloody door! *shakes head in dismay*. Apparently I have a "hiatus hernia", where my diaphragm is actually perforated, and my stomach is sticking through into my chest. Sounds lovely . I need to go back for an ultrasound of my abdomen to check on other symptoms relating to my anaemia.

My dad has that, too. Basically has led to acid reflux. As long as he doesn't eat 3+ hrs before bedtime and takes his Prevacid pill once a day, he's fine.

I think it's called "Hiatal Hernia".

Here's the Mayo Clinic.com article:

Haha. Well thank you Viv! When I woke up a bit I did find it pretty funny myself. I hate feeling so helpless and believe me I'll never request a sedative again. They can do what they like to me as long as I retain my control.

Thank you for the article. At the moment I seem to have an asymptomatic hernia, and I only discovered there could be something there when I went to the Doctor's for an unrelated incident. At least it's nothing majorly wrong, because when I first heard "mass in stomach", I must admit that I panicked. I have to go for an ultrasound on my abdomen in a few weeks, because I initially went with severe anaemia and stomach cramps which they have yet to diagnose. Because of other related symptoms, which I don't really want to go into because of the embarassment factor, they've suggested there could be an issue with my reproductive system. Could be Fybroids or even Endometriosis. I'll know more after my next appointment. I don't want children anyway, so it's not really concerning me any. It's just the symptoms I'd rather not be dealing with.

Where I live we've been without power since Saturday night. No power, no hot water and no heat. Most everyone I know is in the same situation. I am using the computer of one of my work clients. Most of my clients have no pwer. Everyone is bored to tears. I have read and played cards more than ever before and we're supposed to be without power until the weekend. This is wayyyyyyy worse than the dmages caused by the tornado back in June.

Anti Depressants such a Zoloft, Prozac, Anafranil etc...need to be tapered so you wont feel such discomfort.

Depending on your diagnosis/diagnosis...different medications to take during the taper and well after the end of the taper can be used.

If one has a dual diagnosis, which means one has a substance abuse issue secondary to the persons need for psychiatric drugs. A rule of thumb is no drugs can be used that has a potential for abuse...being, opiate based drugs, benzodiazapines or CNS stimulants.

So, if you took Zoloft for a long time...you need a taper and have the drug continued after your last dose.
If you have an isolated mental health issue that required Zoloft... you should tell your MD or CNP exac. Exactly how you feel (ie: nervous, panic attacks, agoraphobia, tired but can't sleep or sleeping too much, losing interest in things you love...suicide, at worst. You could Valium, Librium, Ativan taper. These are the drugs that are controlled substances and they have potential for abuse and addiction.

If your being treated for drug and alcohol problems, again, secondary to you mental health diagnosis...there are really good, non habit forming drugs that will take off the edge. These are what I have seen to work better consistently as long as the patient is using them as directed...and hopefully seeing a therapist.

The last thing is a treatment that has the potential for abuse but is very effective if closely monitored by a professional. If there is heavy depression and disphoria a mix of a low dose long acting stimulant (concerts, Ritalin LA, Adderal ER) and anti anxiety mess non habit forming (inderal, conjentin, neurontin, saphris/sublingual) are the last option in my opinion.

So, my best suggestion is neurontin or inderal to take the edge off....and playing the Stevie songs that were written during her hardest times.

Please, do not take my ideas as professional or factual plans for treatment. Everybodies chemical make up and situations are different. My thoughts from experience could be potentially be fatal. Please see a Mental Health professional for hands on itests and your history. In any case...its usually 3 months. Hang in there I feel your pain.
PS...pardon the type os...my phone is such an ass

Actually, dual diagnosis just means someone who is suffering from both a substance abuse and a mental health issue at the same time. One is not secondary to the other.

I agree with the rest of what you said, but I fear the person it was intended for did not get much out of your post.

Thank you...I re read what I had written and some acronyms and med names were changed by spellcheck.

As far as secondary I mean what you said but I guess I wasn't clear. Secondary is which came first...and also did the patient need the rx due to a depressive disorder, dysphoria, ocd...etc....or were they diagnosed after alcohol or drug abuse was present...OR were they a known documented alcoholic/addict.

A patient is classified as dual diagnosis if they are addict/alcoholic and suffering from mental illness...and lately I've been seeing dualies that self medicated during bi polar cycling...or borders just think the treatment was, well you know...and mostly in Spring are the highest admission rates...the usual mania thing but lately rapid cycling mixed states. I don't pigeonhole each person just to classify...each addict or abuser of substances, and whether they were self medicating for their illness or not. Today its just dual diagnosis...and often with budgets in the toilet...too many people are in such pain...after a 3 day spindly...programs don't allow someone to be studied closely. Itsan awful communication break down when someone sees a therapist once a week and the prescriber once a month for 10 minutes.

I am making no sense, Jannie. So, you are right. And right again on the intension.

I would never wish anyone...even bullies that kill...the kind of suffering to find the trial and error while getting worse...and on to another let's try this...its is hell.

Zoloft is one of the worst...especially for men.

I'm feeling better at the moment. I've been on Zoloft for about 2 years - it was prescribed for panic disorder. Major anorgasmia was the only side effect for a long time, but eventually that was joined by night sweats and nightmares where I would wake up screaming - loudly. So, I wanted off of it.

I've also got Adderall and Xanax prescriptions, which do help with the Zoloft withdrawal, but I don't have insurance and the Adderall especially is very expensive even in generic form. I really should be on that all the time, but I have to ration because I just can't afford it.

I think he looks a little shorter because he was a bit pudgier back then. The weight to height ratio was a little less even. I don't think he's that tall in real life anyway, really. The fact that he's so lithe creates that illusion.

It's just rude. I don't do that to her. I get ready in the dark in an attempt not to wake her up when I have class... why can't I get the same respect.

Why would someone, anyone, ESPECIALLY someone I am friends with, not think, 'Hey, it's 4:00 AM... she's trying to sleep... I probably shouldn't turn the overhead light on and leave it on for 45 minutes..."

I just got a new 300cc Vespa, so I've been riding it a lot in my spare time. I'm always doing lots of outdoors stuff too (hiking, swimming, etc). Life has been pretty full lately, but I'm enjoying every minute of it!

Excellent! Glad you found something - you may have told me about it but, very rudely, iI can't remember! :sorry: What are you doing now? I'm lucky at my job that I can go online when not busy, which I grant you isn't often. Sounds like you're having a great time.

Good all on the vespa. I've been toying with the idea of a scooter for a while since I had to get rid of my car.

Good all on the vespa. I've been toying with the idea of a scooter for a while since I had to get rid of my car.

I've had a pair of Vespas for nearly 4 years now. We started out with 150cc models. Unfortunately, a neighbor got out of her car without putting it into park, and her car rolled down the hill and flattened mine & my partner's Vespas about 2 months ago. So I took the opportunity to upgrade and got a 300cc Vespa. It's sooo much fun to ride. Very powerful (it's every bit as quick as a real motorcycle) and very comfortable. I can't stay off the stupid thing! :D

The man on Come Dine With Me at the moment celebrated Christmas multiple times in the year. That's just creepy. It would drive me completely insane to have to suffer through Christmas more than once. Christmas has always been rather disappointing to me, anyway. Probably because my family have a habit of getting drunk and ruining things. My Aunt ended the festivities in a grand old fashion a couple of years ago by drinking too much, punching my brother and knocking him out. All that because he'd suggested that she might want to have a soft drink, considering she had her small son with her.

The only thing I liked about Love Actually was the relationship between Bill Nighy and Gregor Fisher's characters. I could never quite get past the whole "Rab C Nesbitt" thing, which made it entirely amusing. Even when he was in Wild Target, which aside from Rupert Everett (The nommiest thing every to walk down from the highest mountain of Nom-donia) made the film watchable. Wild Target, as anticipated (because of Rupert) as it was by myself, was staggeringly disappointing. I spent the entire time in the theatre wondering how on earth the script made it to the big screen. Terrible. Especially considering the devastatingly understated and pointless removal of the "bad guys" without one utterance of a major event. No. They had a car crash. One scene in the hospital and that's that for them. What? Appalling.

I shall get off of my Soapbox now, haha.

Oh I know, I cried at that bit. Aahaha cheese is best. I love Bill Nighy's character when he is on the show with Ant and Dec and one of them ask him what prize he has and he was like well Anr OR Dec.. I don't know why but that always makes me laugh. Oh my Aunt wouldn't dream of going sober. She goes through an entire bottle of red wine by herself every night, despite having two young sons to take care of.

It's why I refuse to drink. I don't turn violent, but I really can't handle the alcohol. I do really stupid things and lose all sense of self preservation. I do find everything funny when I'm drunk, too. The silliest things. I just don't like being that out of control, so I steer clear. I can get high enough on Coffee and energy drinks. I once had three coffees in a row before a drawing studies class at Uni, and spent the entire hour long class walking around in a circle because I had so much energy to burn. I really shouldn't have anything stimulating like that because I'm too susceptible.

For my cousin, it was actually her realizing that she was a lesbian, and giving up on men, that allowed her to realize why she was so unhappy, and always wanting to be as drunk as possible. And she can actually have a drink or two now, and she's fine with stopping after one or two.

Me, I like to drink. It's no secret. I like a good healthy buzz! Not getting into trouble. Not throwing up. Not making bad decisions. I know when I'm full, and turn down free shots, all the time. And I'm a VERY happy drinker.:woohoo:

The clincher for me was "Mick" reporting Stevie's Father's death. He died years ago. So unless he had a quick reincarnation before being hit by a bus, I very much doubt that information. I've been speaking to somebody on Facebook, and they tell me that they've had run ins with them before, and they found out that it was in fact a woman behind the accounts. I wont mention my "contact" name though, for the sake of their privacy lol. But it's ridiculous how many people have been suckered in. I meet Viv (McTrouble) today! I'm so nervous. I can just see myself walking up to a random stranger and greeting them whilst Viv is standing there, thinking "Dafuq you doing? I'm over here!!!". Eeps. Scared Bee :( if this is what I'm like meeting a fellow Ledgie, I dread to think how nervous I'll be meeting Lindsey himself.

Thanks. No, a GTP. I needed to continue earning while training, so the GTP was a better fit for me. Am at my 'A' placement school at the moment and move to my second school after Xmas. Lots of work, but enjoyable all the same.

I know I would be! I just couldn't stretch to the meet and greet prices. Who knows though, it's a small venue in Edinburgh and it's not unheard of to see the artists near the venue after the show... doubtful of course but I'm hoping!

We did! It was lovely meeting Bee and her Mum but unfortunately I only got to be with them for a couple of hours before I had to get my train back home!

Bee took me to her favourite vintage clothes shop and I bought a great top for one of our shows, but let me tell you - Bee bought the most beautiful dress and when she tried it on she looked STUNNING!!!!!!

And I'll tell you something else - I always thought Bee looked so pretty in the photos she has posted on here but I wasn't prepared for just how beautiful she is in real life!!!!

I've no chance getting Lindsey's attention now!!!! :distress::lol:

I'm not exactly a novice drinker myself . I just hadn't realised how much I'd had - very unusual for me - and felt perfectly sober until the walk home. Damn fresh air will do it every time! I then got in at 12.30am (so not late!), poured a large glass of water, sat down on the sofa to drink it.. and woke up several hours later with the glass untouched! Oops!

Hey guys!
I promise to be a better Ledgie without comitting Ledge Truancy.
Well... for those who have me on Facebook:
I snuck into first row at Myer Music Bowl! Ahh it was beautiful, dancing and laughing with fellow fans. And of course Mamma was amazing, better than I expected. The highlight of the night was my first ever edge walk. I'll never forget that moment, ever.

Anyway, today I saw my sub teacher (replacing my Art teacher for the rest of the year) wearing a certain crescent necklace (wink, wink!) and someone shouted at me how the Stevie concert was - we both turned around! We chatted through half of the class. She said she knew some of you guys and read the Ledge.

Anyway, my beautiful friends, much love... I have missed you all so dearly.

YOU DOG!!!

Congrats!!!

Thanks, I've been wanting one of those, for at least a couple of years!

Best of all? My tight ass didn't want to pay retail.....I was in Nashville last week. I did my regular search of Craigslist for one.........

After the epic floods of last year, this woman had participated in a benefit for this family, who had lost everything. They had a raffle, with this guitar being the grand prize. She won it, and it had been sitting in her house since. Untouched. Christmas is coming, so she decided to try and sell it...

Long story short, I got it for $375 less than I could have bought it elsewhere(even online). She kept trying to get me to go close to retail price, but $100 bills flapping in the air, speaks louder than her desire to wait! Go me!!!:blob2:

"Where are you from?"

It's an innocent enough question. But for some reason it bothers me. A lot. Last night at the gym, a younger guy just came up to me out of the blue and asked me where I'm from. At first I didn't know what to say. Really? I don't think I had been asked that question in, oh, 30 years. So in my most obnoxious accent ever, I replied snarkily- "hee-yah, Noo Yowak," knowing fully well he was really asking about my ethnicity. He obviously meant no harm. In fact, this was either the lamest pickup line ever or just a really, really dumb question. He seemed a little flustered by my response and then went on to say that he was an artist who draws different kinds of people and then some other idle chatter; apparently he was observing me for some time, which made me feel creeped-out. I could tell he was a few cards short of a full deck, so I just told him my ethnicity and politely ended the conversation as quickly as possible.

Way back in the Mesozoic age, when I was a wee lad, I often heard this question. All the time. Growing up in the suburbs back then, I guess it was unusual to see anyone who wasn't black or white. It was a more innocent time, I suppose. I don't know. But as America has become more diverse and somewhat more integrated over the intervening decades, race and ethnic identity seemed to become less and less of an issue. We are all individuals after all. And especially in a city like New York, arguably the most racially diverse city on the entire planet, people of different ethnicities and foreign nationalities make up the majority of the population. I guess all this time living in New York I have taken for granted the notion of being perfectly anonymous- just another ripple in the colorful stream of life. So after a lifetime of being a U.S. citizen living my life as any other American, the question, which I hadn't heard in, like, forever, jolted me like a drink thrown in my face: at the end of the day, people still see my race before they see anything else. And they make the automatic assumption that I'm an alien, i.e., not one of them. Really? It's not like he just saw me step off the boat at Ellis Island. I'm in a freaking gym in Manhattan, for crikey sake! I mean, he wouldn't ask a random white person this question. It's one thing to ask about my racial background (which is still kinda strange and totally irrelevant), but it's another thing to automatically assume that I'm not American.

I don't know... maybe it's just me...

When was the last time some random stranger asked you what neighborhood you were from? Again, I don't think the question came from a bad place... just a place of naivety. I mean, who cares where I'm from or about my ethnicity? Is it 1975 again? Are we in Vermont? Why is anyone, let alone a young person, asking this type of question to a total stranger? It's one thing if we were speaking and I had some bizarre accent... or I was wearing a T-shirt with the name of a place on it... but this came totally randomly out of the blue. Maybe I need to get a U.S. flag tattooed on my forehead.

I've been asked. I'm a white female in my mid 30's, so nothing unique about me. Maybe since you're in NYC he was asking if you're originally from NYC or another city/state/country. Just throwing it out there.

You seem 100% sure he was implying/wondering if you just got off a boat from China or something to that effect. I'm just saying that might not be the case. You say he seemed flustered or embarrassed after your reply - you probably scared the sh*t out of him.

I don't know... maybe it's just me...

My opinion: You're reading into this too much. The guy said he was an artist, he likes to draw - he thought you were interesting looking and probably in his own lame way was hoping you'd pose for him and that it would lead to some wild romantic sexual encounter and you'd fall madly in love with each other and he'd spend his life drawing you and you'd spend your life being his muse.

OK. Having written that out, it DOES seem a bit weird.

But really, in an earlier time it would not be uncommon at all.

I read too many Anne Rice books. Everyone in them is honest to a fault, overly romantic and too willing to reveal their deepest secrets to total strangers.

Then again, I also think Americans are simply too guarded and leery of others.

I agree with this, too. Especially Yankees. Really, as a card carrying Yankee, I'm constantly amazed by the differences in people's behavior, as you move South. They are far more outgoing, and talkative. Maybe he was a southern transplant!:p

My opinion is that he was interested in you, romantically.

Reminds me of two weeks ago I'd went out to a few clubs in Ybor City in Tampa that night and was about to leave the second one and as I was making my way past the crowd heading towards the front doors, some guy approached me and tells me in my ear "Me and my friends all think you're f'ng hot. Come back and talk". And all I said was "Thank you". And smiled and went on my way out the door. It wasn't until after I got home I thought to myself, that guy was pretty hot... Tall, dark short hair, cool sleek sideburns. And I let him go because when I am out, I am always so reserved and just out to be out and not looking for anyone or anything and have always been this way but sometimes I wish I'd sit down and get to know people and not regret it later on. But it's how I am and I could lighten up. If I see him again, I'll talk.

That sounds WAY better than the chat up line I received on Tuesday night. "I well fancy you. Wanna come back to my place? I have a police order saying I'm not allowed to be in the town after midnight" - he says GETTING OUT aforementioned police order - "And I want to proper smash open your back doors"...no thank you.

Does anyone have any experience with huge posters? I bought a 4' x 4' Tusk poster in September and I have no idea what to do with it. I don't want to hang it up with tacks because our youngest cat likes to rip posters.

We called a few framing stores and a frame would cost around $150-200+. For those with large photos/posters, did you just buy a frame? Could I make a frame (or something similar to protect it) or should I get over it and buy one?

I love the fact that Thatcher was trending on Twitter, and the first thing DianaInHeaven (A really vile, but hilarious parody account) posts is "She is not here."

My parents well love her though, mainly cause they were just starting in the police force when she became prime minister and they got huge pay rises

Thanks to my Facebook page, we have rehomed three more Cats! First, we had two brother Cats who were dumped in the street. One of them is very nervous and shy around people, and the other is confident and so sweet. A lady came and decided she wanted the shy one. She was boxing him up when his brother came charging over and meowed and kicked up such a fuss as if to say "Hey! What are you doing? Don't even dare take my brother without taking me!" that she ended up taking him too! I love it. I always knew he was very protective towards his brother, and this proved it. I have so much respect for that Cat right now lol. The other one is a black Cat named Nicks (Who likes to sing alot. Gee. I wonder where I got her name from ;)) who has been at the shelter longer than I have. So yaya! Still no home for my favourite Cat in the world (Aside from my own, of course), Stinky Socks, who has been there a long time though. He's the sweetest Cat with the most impressive character I've ever known and nobody wants him. I just don't get it. It breaks my heart because I want to bring him home so badly. Seriously. If my cat were a nicer, more tolerant Cat, I would have brought him home six months ago. I know I'll cry buckets when I have to say goodbye to him.... :(

So tomorrow is my last day in my current position at work. I recently received a promotion and am transferring to a different department on Monday. While I look forward to the challenge of the new position, working with new people, and of course the added money will be lovely- I have terribly mixed feelings nonetheless. I've never worked with a more positive, fun, supportive group of people in my entire life. Part of me feels horrible for abandoning the best work environment I've ever experienced, part of me knows it's time to move onwards and upwards.

Louie...wonderful. I am really proud of anyone that takes the challenge to expand your base of friends, knowledge, intelligence...I admire the fact that you are taking a leap of faith with such reflective wisdom regarding change.

There is a song I hope you dance. Its cheesy and country but the words are powerful.

I hope you still feel small when you stand before the ocean...whenever one door closes...one more opens. Living might be taking chances but they're worth taking...

You know, a long poem about life and love...and never looking back with regret and facing challenges that can be scary...

Good luck.

Okay, I've left my Art coursework really late, it's due in on the 7th and I haven't finished the actual book.
My teacher said to put in up to 45hrs work, but the problem is I don't have lots of little pieces to put in, I have three big ole biro pieces and two smaller sketches.
I also seem to have lost all ability to draw.
So if anyone has done an Art GCSE would they be able to give me a few pointers as to what I should include in my book, I would be forever in their debt?

I submitted 8 sheets for my GCSE and got an A*so first off, DON'T PANIC!!

If it were me, I'd construct 5 pages from the 5 pieces you have already by tearing them up (everyone screams. I always tear my art up) and making feature pages. Say eyes, noses and mouths (perhaps you could even stretch to ears, too) and make collages out of the separate pieces. I hope this is making sense. So gather all 6 biro eyes and arange them on one page then decorate. Do the same with the noses and mouths. Then with the other two, make those into pages, too. Just decorate with different paints/pens etc.

Oh no! I couldn't ever rip up my work
My sculpture is my final piece and that is nearly done so I don't have to worry too much about getting the physical part of it done as that is sorted.

Because I'm not one of those people who gets an idea and develops it this is very difficult for me, I just get ideas, draw them and TA DA! I don't develop anything, and it works out fine anyway, why oh why did I take Art?!

I have to keep telling myself this is GCSE level, because being a Uni student I know we would NEVER get away with anything like that, haha. I think the main point is to just keep drawing. Five minutes, a minute even per sketch. It's just a quick way of getting a lot of work. It doesn't matter if you end up producing crap. Because you're producing. You have pieces that can be jumping off points to other things.
