I'm pretty stressed out right now. Trying to make the LA Wiltern show work, trying to find a full time summer job, trying to withdraw from a terrible class, trying to get something substantial done with my novel, trying to snatch up as many student loans as possible so I can go to Durham next year... I'm feeling really unconfident lately, too, so I'm also trying to boost my self esteem while working on improving myself at the same time. Turns out, I have to be in a massive ball of self-loathing to get anything productive done.

It's a LOT of work to keep up with all of the posts. And you deal with constant negativity between members, some of which is directed at you & your judgment calls. Other folks think you should be some sort of robot who doesn't contribute, have opinions, or make mistakes either. Older guys can be just as shady. A couple of years back, my lifelong best friend told me it had surfaced that her Dad had been cheating on her Mother for a decade. It was the most shocking thing imaginable. This man was a Catholic Deacon who was constantly involved in the community. He was a successful and very family oriented businessman. He lived 2 doors down from me for most of my childhood. It turns out not only was he cheating on his drop dead gorgeous wife (who was also wholly dedicated to him, and very intelligent and hugely involved in the community herself), he was living a double life. He provided his mistress with her own apartment, he had separate bank accounts to pay for their life together, etc. Apparently his weekly overnight "business trips" were actually spent with his out of town mistress. This isn't just some dumb, horny, young guy either... he's in his mid 50s. Young men who are dogs turn into older men who are dogs.
My Stepfather's Dad did the same thing. He left his wife when they were in their 50s to shack up with some sleazy waitress for a few years. I have no idea why his wife took him back. Once a sleazeball always a sleazeball.

Yes, I know that older men can be just as sleazy, if not even sleazier... there are countless examples of that. I mean, the guy who completely ****ed me over a few months ago was 38. I'm just justifying ;)

When I was an Admin for another forum I was treated the exact same way. I was expected to be some kind of Oracle who did nought but agree with everybody and please everybody. Buddha forfend if I ever punish somebody for breaking the rules. I lost so many friends on the boards because I didn't take their sides in small and quite petty disputes and punish the people they were arguing with. I once had to permanently ban my supposed "best friend" on the board for a hate campaign she started against a member, the woman even going so far as to threaten to kill herself on the other woman's doorstep (Seriously, wtf?!!). Since then for a long while I had the hate campaign aimed at me personally. Luckily she lost interest, because it turned quite nasty.

Haha. Well I'll let you have all the enjoyment from that movie, and I'll keep in my ignorance about it. I don't know why but I do steer clear alot of the time from films that are culturally hyped to the point of being murdered by teenagers and young adults in classrooms and on the street. I like the smaller Indie films and older films that nobody's ever heard of. Like my music, I like my movies to feel like mine alone.

When I asked what I was missing, I had no idea what Heartboy and then CaliforniaDream were talking about in this thread. There is a private area for moderators to discuss things and perhaps I should have asked my wtf question in there, rather than directly to the folks who I was confused by.

The only reason I brought up the fact Admins can read deleted posts is because certain members abuse the delete feature, thinking they can say snarky things and then make them go away by deleting their post. All I was saying is either:
1) Stand behind what you post
or
2) Don't post it

What could BE more important than TPTB here treating contributors humanely and respectfully?
I do treat all members respectfully and humanely (?). My comment was on the importance of our (mods) personalities and this section (chit chat) of The Ledge as a whole.
I'm sorry if I offended anyone with my posts about how I like to read deleted threads. I'm only human.

It's good for people to feel that they can share without fear of unjust judgement and reprisals. One thing I like about The Ledge is people's ability to discuss, argue and yet still respect each other once grievances have been erred.

The only reason I brought up the fact Admins can read deleted posts is because certain members abuse the delete feature, thinking they can say snarky things and then make them go away by deleting their post. All I was saying is either:
1) Stand behind what you post
or
2) Don't post it
:wavey: maybe they do not stand behind what they posted and for that reason they deleted it? duh.
since mods have access to deleted threads, maybe they should consider bringing back the PERV thread which I accidently deleted and many wish returned. using an option for something useful...
why also allow the option of deleting posts if all that abuse youd prefer not happen is going on? oh wait, I guess a mod did decide to do just that-- I am unable to delete the thread M.I.A. after I posted I planned to. First the modstick removes the thread, then replaces the thread, then closes the thread. NICE OPTIONS!

And thanks, Louie, for letting us know what the mods can and cannot see. It didn't seem at all like gloating to me, and I appreciate the info for future reference.

Just from my point of view, I can see both sides of this. A lot of people, myself included, don't always completely think about what they say before they say it (abusive posts aside, like general info or whatever) and then look back on it and decide against what they posted and prefer to delete it. BUT, with the beauty of the internet and being able to type out your thoughts, unlike speaking you can read back on what you write before you say it so my opinion is COMPLETELY read over what you write before you hit 'submit reply'. That aside, posting constant smart-ass replies and then deleting them making yourself look innocent only to have the person you were insulting or whatever look weird for randomly saying something in reply is just bullsh*t.

any post or thread ive deleted was and is for puposes of periodic cleaning house else id likely have jammed said house with a bazillion posts -- im no hoarder...haha. if ive had previous thread with oh let's say three responses and it's stood out there for six months for no other purpose than to clutter and collect webs, I delete. posts/ threads of importance to me and perhaps others, stand.
with regard to the PERV thread vs TMI thread posting, the fact that I accidently deleted and it remains lost is the point -- those that did participate at the time occassionally make reference to it, how they STILL enjoyed looking back to it and can no longer. Maybe they enjoy the memories and liked the option of viewing archive. That's all.

All I can say here to participate in this discussion is "Phew". I'm sure nobody wants to have their personal correspondences leered at, after all, not that I was ever paranoid about Mods having this capability, mind you.
I feel as if I should jump in here. I know for certain that all our private messages--filled with insults of other fans, anarchic politics, weird religious & sexual practices, & plain old googooness--are closely read by the Mods.
Years ago, when I was a Mod, we used to set aside a few hours every Sunday for an Adobe Connect session to read the private messages of the prior week. It was a relaxing way to spend a few hours online.
I don't think there's anything wrong with it because it's like counterinsurgency tactics. We live in an age of terrorism, & we must do what we can to prevent future attacks on our trains, airplanes, places of worship, & employment centers.

Thanks. My purpose was not to gloat at all. I prefer to be a bit more open vs secretive when it comes to moderation, but that's just my personal style. I tend to think that if people know how & why things go down, it takes the mystery out of our management style. In turn, maybe people won't be as strung out on mysteries and conspiracy theories if we're just more open to begin with.
Regarding the (in)famous perv thread, it's long gone. But not because of anything moderation wise. It's simply been inactive for too long, and has been auto deleted by the system because of that. Not that people will believe a word of any of this... they'll always chose to take things the bad way, or hold onto their conspiracy theories even when you show them 10 different ways how it's untrue. :p

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the only reason I pointed out mods could read deleted posts was because that particular user has a history of abusing the delete feature. The other night I was running up the stairs trying to make it to the bathroom and back during the new Doctor Who - it was a commercial I wanted to make it back without missing anything. There was some kids in the same county as me who go caught having sex right in the middle of the dance floor before. Some kids even reported stepping on a condom at the dance. It happens...it's gross. I wonder how many children are conceived on prom night. Seriously, at my school there's gonna be a million pregnant girls when next [school] year starts. I remember my sophomore year, and everybody and their mama was pregnant that year.
P.S.
Graduation is coming soon (June 11), and the senior class has already gone down more than 10% .
List of reasons why people were expelled:
Smoking weed in the stairwell
Pulling a fire alarm and using gym teacher's keys to break into every gym locker and steal thousands worth of electronics...arrested later.
and other stupid things.
Prom was relatively good this year. There was no sex on the dance floor that I've heard of (oh and I would have heard of it), but there was some really slutty dancing. I was not one of them, but haha I did have some (a lot of) fun out there
I'm trying not to slack the rest of the year. Wish me luck.

Death's a fierce meadowlark: but to die having made
Something more equal to centuries
Than muscle and bone, is mostly to shed weakness.
The mountains are dead stone, the people
Admire or hate their stature, their insolent quietness,
The mountains are not softened or troubled
And a few dead men's thoughts have the same temper.

Oh, I am. I guess. Last night, I was told that 3 dates out of the past 4 nights, was feeling a little smothering, so we just need a little bit of space(fwiw, I like giving more space, but 2 of the evenings, we had "official dinners" to attend, now that we're,.... well,....
Smoking weed in the stairwellPulling a fire alarm and using gym teacher's keys to break into every gym locker and steal thousands worth of electronics...arrested later.
and other stupid things.

Last night, I was told that 3 dates out of the past 4 nights, was feeling a little smothering, so we just need a little bit of space(fwiw, I like giving more space, but 2 of the evenings, we had "official dinners" to attend, now that we're,.... well,.... To get suspended, you have to continually do something you've been contacted several times not to do. For instance, personally attacking another member/starting fights with another member.
To be banned, you have to be a repeat offender who has been suspended several times, and still shows no regard for the site rules. Regardless of what people think, we ban very few people.

I was weaned on Pat Benatar and have always loved her version of Wuthering Heights. I was probably 13 when I first heard Kate's original and was so freaked out by her voice, I honestly thought it was either a joke or there was something legitimately wrong with her:shocked:
I warmed to Kate a few years later after hearing This Woman's Work, but she's definitely not for everyone.
Except, apparently, in Britain. Even as a fan, I'm continually surprised she has such wide appeal there.
Kate Bush #1? I'm trying to imagine that happening in the US.

It's safe to say we've all had friends like that! One of my very best friends was that way, actually. Our friendship revolved around his needs, his convenience, and his having the type of good time he wanted to have. If other friends in our group decided we wanted to go to a restaurant or bar he didn't suggest, he'd ruin the entire outing by pouting like a spoiled child. He wasn't there for major moments in any of our lives, though we were always there for his. Everything you shared with him, he'd rope back into a conversation about him & his "mama." Yes, this was a 40 year old man who is obsessed with his Mother who runs his life. I finally had to just cut off our friendship recently, which I hated. That's what you've gotta do with people whom you can't have equal friendships with, unfortunately.

Ew. It's my best friend's birthday next week, and we're having one hell of a night out (ie; many drinks), which should be fun. However, she's invited some people who I haven't seen for over 2 years. Including two girls I used to "date" in Secondary school. Awkward times. I'm determined to look as great as I can, and this time, not make out with one of them whilst drunk to keep up appearances (I did that at halloween) because that was not fun.
Has anyone else ever been in a situation where they've been forced to hang out with a few people who really aren't all that friendly towards you? Any coping strategies?

I've often seen where two people hate each other two things are probable:1 is the two like each other but don't know how to deal with it.
2 is that they are likely way similar in personality and inevitably clash.

That my mom and grandmother are back from California...safe and sound!!! THANK GOD! They had such a horrible trip! My mom went to visit her friend that shes been friends with for 25 years and i guess she turned out to be a drugged out alcoholic. All she did was YELL and fight with my mom and grandmother. Not to mention in her drunken stooper she tried to punch my mom in the face but got her arm instead cuz my mom blocked it. So she ended up with a HUGE bruise on her arm. Her "friend" also stole my moms phone charger and my mom ended up having to beg people to charge her phone in their car with her car charger(every person she asked said yes!). So after a week my mom and gram left to stay at a hotel. While my mom used her friends house phone to call a cab her friend unplugged the phone line!!!
Needless to say...my mom and grammy spent a few days at a hotel and such and paid extra to play home early. My mom brought her Fleetwood Mac baseball hat that she got when we saw them in 2009 and accidentially left it behind at her friends house. So my mom was wicked upset about that! So now I am like on a wicked intense search for that hat online and buy it to replace it....but I cant find it anywhere =( EDIT: Found the hat on the Live Nation website!!

I'm glad that everyone made it through okay! What a shock that must have been to your mom and grandmother!! I hope her (ex?) friend finds the help she needs.

The seasonal job I've got has switched me to a weekday shift (from weekends) for the next couple of weeks, after which said job will end for the year. And let me just tell you, I am O-V-E-R it. Part of me wishes I hadn't agreed to move to weekdays and gone into furlough status instead, but a little extra $$$ is nice.
On the other hand, I'm sick of getting up at 4am and I'm sick of doing data entry for 8-10 hours a day. Bleh. I just keep telling myself, "It's only a couple of weeks."

JTIS....
That I went to a hair show yesterday and it was wicked cool! I bought a few things by Paul Brown because I wanted to see how it was and it seems wicked cool during their show. Turns out it works wicked good =P
ANYWAY so yesterday was the hair show that pretty much anyone could go to. Today was the $150 hands on class that only licensed cosmetologists could go to. So obviously students cant go....WELLL one of my teachers came up to me and a fellow classmate of mine and asked us if we wanted to go!!! Obviously we said yes, and we went with one other teacher. We just couldnt tell anyone that we were students and stuff like that. So I learned some new techniques and I got a certificate ffrom the class =D We learned an Assymetrical Haircut which came out wicked cute!
P.S. the show was put on by the Beauty Warehouse that my school owns. The owner of my school was at the show and the training...So I guess he suggested that we go to the hands on thing. Oh and it was free for us =P

GRADUATION DAY! :blob2::]
Congratulations!
And we wonder why we're not "socially acceptable", lol! Nobody ever says "we're losing a black haired person" or what have you. But with ginger we're in a class of our own hehe.
It's because you're genetic freaks. Like lefties. Or Candians. ;)
I just woke up to the sight of a full grown Cow grazing in the back garden. Think I might go back to bed and start again tomorrow if it's going to be one of those days....
Yeah, that never happens where I live.

Sorta gross JTIS.....
So, I've always had REALLY calloused heels on my feet. Like embarrassingly bad, if they rubbed your partner in bed. I've never had a pedicure, but my friend mentioned a Ped Egg. I'd never heard of one....
I went to Bed Bath and Beyond yesterday, and bought one. OMFG, the best thing ever! Completely painless, and chewed my heels down to smooth, callous free, sexy feet. I had tons of skin to empty out of the Ped Egg shell!:sorry: Best $10 I've ever spent in my life! I can probably get into two shoe sizes smaller now!

Good recommendation - as I wander around all day with bare feet, my heels need some TLC, I'll try a Ped Egg
But has anyone ever tried the treatment where all the little fishes nibble away the dead skin?
I think I'd be too ticklish for that!

Yeah, in the summer, if I'm home, I almost NEVER have shoes on. So my feet get tough as leather in the summer! Seriously, my rough, UGLY heels are GONE!:blob2::blob2::blob2:
Ped Egg is the BEST thing ever!!! And only $8, after the 20% off coupon, that BB&B mails out all the time! For anyone who wonders how it works, it's essentially a "kitchen grater" for your feet. Same thing, except it catches most of the skin that falls off.
I now don't have to make an effort that my heels don't make contact in bed!!!!
BTW, the clerk recommended doing it after bathing, when your skin is super soft, but the directions tell you to NOT do it then....

Haven't multiple bans from there taught you a lesson? Really. Just a correction for you, I was banned ONCE from there from something that happened here.

Teenagers are NUTS!
Last night around three in the morning I heard some noise outside but I ignored it because I was watching my 'Designing Woman' first season DVD! anyways, I heard more noise & looked out the window and down the street were a bunch of teenybobbers and some girl yelling at some dudes with hockey sticks!
Well, she got into her car & backed up really fast, (turns out the noise I must of heard was her car windows being shattered) and drove up into someones yard trying to run over the dudes! and they went for her headlights so when she was backing up, she got stuck but she was able to go forward and take off with her two front tires (at that point) being flat! I couldn't help but laugh but I also felt like going outside to tell these dudes off but hey, I value my house & life!
Let me guess, I bet this was either about drugs or some girl!

They are nuts. I pulled into the Kroger parking lot yesterday, and there were about 5 teenage boys standing there. They were taking turns smelling each other's armpits! I sh*t you not.
I don't know if it was a contest for who's smelled the worst, or what, but I realized at that moment, that I'm almost grown up.

Teenage boys have always been yukky little critters - I thought it at the time when I was a teenage girl dating them!
Actually, I'd probably like to change that to the younger end - pre-16! They used to make me feel slightly nauseous. But then they suddenly start to improve - a lot! :)

I just signed up for an unlimited texting plan. I did this because I recently got the HTC Thunderbolt & I'm really enjoying it. So now I'm even texting, too. I'm having so much fun texting people. I use the voice activation thing on the phone. It's really easy. You just speak into the mic & it prints your message!
Does anyone want to text with me?

I wouldn't limit it to teenage boys. My besty Jasia is a grubby swine who I swear had her genetics altered to that of a teenage boy, lol. It's quite obvious that she was raised by free spirit, Hippie parents because she has absolutely no inhibitions. I haven't had a single day where I didn't know what underwear and bra she had on..

Dude, you are SO phone obsessed. I just got my first smart phone, and while I like many of it's features(although I HATE not having a qwerty:mad:), I don't want to marry it.:sorry:
Dearest David, my phone is out by the pool....when I go back out, I will send you a text!

Oh my, I have a friend like that. She also liked to tell me whenever she was, um, intimately shaving herself, and one of her stories ended with "And then I woke up, and he was in me!"
JTIS, my other friend is a total sweetie, she's really ill; and she's not the type to mention anything unless she's really bad, but she's still coming out tonight, which is really awesome of her to do.

My hometown had a Tornado this afternoon. Just wanted all of you to know that I am fine. There is no power in my home. I'm on a friend's computer right now. My family is fine, though I still haven't been able to get a hold of my brother and sister in law or their kids but I'd bet everyone is fine.
There have been no reports on the news of any serious injuries to any human being, just various building damage throughout the regin.
