I've been a high school graduate for a year now. It freaks me out how fast time is flying by. I'm feeling so anxious and nervous about so much right now... I'm not falling asleep until 7 a.m in the morning. Ahhhh, I don't know what's wrong with me.

Well, if you want to start a thread about it in the Chit Chat forum, don't hesitate to do so. :)

I had a yard sale this morning, and I doubt I will ever do that again. I made $60. $60!!!

I threw my back out, so seriously that wouldn't even cover the chiro bill (if I went to one, which I don't).

SIGH

I was just listening to "Gift Of Screws", and a thought occurred - would Lindsey's singing and screaming make Robert Plant blush green with envy? (Of course, no-one can beat Yoko Ono on "Why"...) Listening to Houses Of The Holy for comparison, it seems quite possible... :D

Haha, my sister told me, one day, that Stevie Nicks was "fat and ugly", I swear that I haven't talked to her for days. (btw, i love the fact that you love Debbie Harry, reminds me two years ago, when I was a Blondie fan ). And, that's some good advice, I was thinking the same way until today...what upsets me the most, is that I listen to them everyday, even if I'm not always interested in everything, but at least i try, or I just pretend I am, but they can't make any effort for me.
Whatever. I'll listen to you, and fight for what I love !

Your friends are idiots. Being a huge Stevie Nicks fan makes you interesting and unique. I guarantee you that any time one of your friends hears a Fleetwood Mac song, they think of you. Do you have associations that strong for any of them? Probably not.

Edit:

Eventually they'll grow up and realize how much fun it is that you're as enthusiastic about Stevie as you are. My friends gave me a hard time in high school for liking Stevie the way I do. They would "bah" like goats, talk about her weight, talk about how strange it was that I liked her so much, ask me to stop talking about her as often as I do, etc.

I've gotten four calls between last night and today (from day to day friends, not Fleetwood Mac friends) to either wish me a Merry Nicksmas or play a song through the other end of the phone. Three facebook friends have made their statuses some sort of "It's Stevie Nicks bday" derivative. My favorite so far was a guy who I had a slight fling with saying "Merry Nicksmas, I know it's an important day to people of your faith." A girl I don't even like from one of my classes said that she heard it was Stevie Nicks's birthday, and it made her miss me.

Moral of the story, when your friends are ready to see how cool you are, they'll see that you're REALLY f-ing cool.

The fact is that I don't even talk about her that much, because I don't want to bother them (even if they absolutely know that i LOVE her, cause i write her name, well, everywhere :)). And when I do talk about her, it's "shut up", or, well "you're ridiculous and uninteresting". And maybe that's the problem, maybe I should impose it to them, like "take it or we're not friends anymore". Maybe that would force them to care about my interests. The worse thing is that, at home, it's the opposite, i kinda feel free, so i talk about Stevie a lot. I told my father what happened today, and he said "maybe you are ridiculous". God, I know it's no big deal, but I don't know what to do anymore. It seems like, nobody cares for me (I know it's excessive).

But there's hope in your post ! :). Maybe someday, they'll accept it, because it is a big part of my life. Oh, and your friends sound really really cool, I'm jealous :D

Thanks :xoxo: I was thinking the same exact thing. I'm good now though and I didn't even mention it to my mother (I don't plan to either...nuh uh lol)

Had a Stevie moment in apush today while watching Truman. There was a woman in the movie that played the chick in Twister that fed the tornado team (she was the same person who's house got knocked down...and there was something about a dog ) My friend Storm and I were talking about it, and I mentioned the music in it, and I told her that one of my favorite songs is in it...conversation:

Storm- "What's the name of the song?"
Me- "Twisted"
Storm- "Oooh it goes...who sings it?"
Me- (laugh)"You should already know"
Storm- "Oh my god if you say Stevie Nicks..."
Me- "Oh, ok then I won't say it....oooh and it's her birthday today!"

She knows that I love Stevie and she would never say anything bad about her

Stevie Nicks, the world-renowned Great Sage and Eminent Philosopher, once said, "You can only rock out so much. Then you have to go rest." I personally experienced this universal truth this past Monday evening when my long-awaited Fear Factory show finally arrived and then I spent much of Tuesday lying on the couch, complaining my neck was stiff.

That's the theory I'm going with, anyway. I'd much rather believe that I needed that rest on Tuesday because seeing Fear Factory and the mighty Prong rocked my socks so hard that I, y'know... ended up with some kind of 24 hour, metal-induced form of polio, and not that I'm maybe getting a little too old to bang my head as vigorously as I did in days of future passed (or past, if you're Uncanny like that). Why? Because, like baseball (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPqYnC-SW5w), there's no crying in metal. Ask Tom Araya - you just get a titanium plate installed in your neck (http://knac.com/article.asp?ArticleID=7555), and then you just walk it off, flower.

Anyway, I say all of that just so I can say all of this: the show was frakkin' epic. I love me some Fear Factory like Gene Hoglan, Dino Cazares, and Byron Stroud (http://www.revolvermag.com/images/fearfactory.jpg) love cake, and I'm so damn glad to see Dino back in the band, you have no idea - and having the legendary Gene "The Atomic Clock" Hoglan in there now is just gold, y'all.

My ass was front & center, clinging to the security rail like a demented monkey so no one could dislodge me. The set was great, and finally hearing "Self Bias Resistor (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pz5FIx13xBs)," one of my long-time theme songs, live was just epic.

I was double lucky, though. Not only did I get to see FF, but I also got to see the mighty Prong on the same night - another band I have loved forever, and you can bet your ass I bounced like an idiot during "Rude Awakening (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdJL7mKVYbM)," (like this, :blob1:, only way more metal) because that song is unbearably catchy. AND I got picks from both Tommy Victor and Tony Campos, to add to my Official Collection of Picks What I Have Collected from Various Artists that Use Picks. Score!

Speaking of which - Byron Stroud tried to toss a pick down my shirt, but alas, it bounced off and some doucherocket stole it away from me before I could catch it. So, like...a pox on that guy's house. A really BIG pox. Yea, even unto the seventh generation! That'll fix his little red wagon but good, yo.

Anyway, there were three other bands, too. The first one was some act called The Gorge, who were not exactly bad, I don't think, but I can't tell for sure, because I was completely distracted by the fact that the vocalist had a strange tiny moustache like Cochese from that one Beastie Boys video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4PN7Xbexq4).

Second band, Thy Will Be Done, were awesome. I talked to the vocalist for a few minutes later in the evening, and he was really sweet. He'd made a nice speech before dedicating a song to Peter Steele, Dio, and Paul Gray of Slipknot, who had died just that morning, so I told him I appreciated that, and he was all adorable about it. Gotta love a cuddly metal dude with epic facial hair (http://www.thedailyrock.com/wp-content/uploads/thy-will-be-done.jpg).

The other band was Silent Civilian. I had heard Silent Civilian was the new brainchild of Jonny Santos, ex member of Spineshank (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUhnMSactmw). I was a big fan of Spineshank back in the day, and they had some great albums. Even got nominated for a Grammy. So I figured, hey, these guys might be good, because Spineshank! Yay! But Santos has apparently decided the right thing to do with his life is to trade making awesome music like that of Spineshank's for...metalcore? Yeah, I don't get it, either.

At any rate, I have to go now. I'm going to blast a Slayer album and see about developing a vaccine for the metal-induced polio thing. After that, just in case, I'm going to see about devising a way to bang my head that involves less in the way of neck injury and more in the way of relaxing Swedish massage and/or soothing acupuncture session.

Perhaps a headbang/Tai Chi hybrid?

Can someone get me Coach from Survivor's number? His hair's kinda long and I know he likes him some Tai Chi. Let's make this happen, people! Vertebrae are at stake! Shake your asses!

Well, I can't sleep (never mind why), so I'm giving Say You Will a second chance. So far, I've found a few songs I quite like:
"Murrow Turning Over In His Grave" (which I rather liked the first time I heard Say You Will)
"Illume" (wasn't sure at first, but I'll say I like it, at least for now)
"Miranda"
"Come" (doesn't sound like loud, annoying noise this time around, fortunately)
"Smile At You"

I've also found some songs I'm confident I won't like anytime soon:
"What's The World Coming To"
"Thrown Down"
"Say You Will"
"Peacekeeper" (I think Lindsey used the same vocal noises on "Gift Of Screws" on this song, except for "GOS" he was screaming... in any case, "GOS" is an awesome song, unlike this one)
"Running Through The Garden"

And there are some songs I just don't know what to make of:
"Red Rover"

So that's just over half of the album. If I stay awake for the whole album (it is almost 4am here at the mo'!) I'll finish my synopsis. Stay tuned! :)

As for the rest of the album... well, I did finish listening to it, although I was gradually paying less and less attention to it after the first half, basically because I was tired. However, I can remember that I quite liked the instrumentation of "Silver Girl", but the lyrics... :distress: Well, they stopped me from liking the song, basically.
As a side, I also listened to Behind The Mask earlier that night. I adore "In The Back Of My Mind", and love a good few songs on the album. Some others seem slightly too poppy for me to love as much, such as "Skies The Limit", but overall the album is great, and definitely something any FM fan should own (lest you be strictly into pre-Rumours material). However, I still don't care much for the '88 songs "ALAYF", "NQA", and "Paper Doll" (although I do like the latter from time to time).

I'm obsessed with ordering pizza online. Blame my roommate. We obsess over tracking the order, seeing who's making it, getting way too oddly specific about the pizza in ways we'd be too embarrassed to over the phone.

Hahaha, this is the one reason why I order from Domino's sometimes - their pizza tracker is hilarious. I am totally addicted to it. If I have friends over, we'll make big announcements every time the status changes. "ATTENTION EVERYONE. Jorge has now put our pizza in the oven."

Okay, it's one of two reasons I order from Domino's. The chocolate molten lava cake is the other. Nom nom.

Oh I have two sewing machines. One belongs to my mum and decided that it was going to snap the thread everytime I tried to sew (turns out I had the tension wrong) and mine is from the 50's, goes only back and forward and tends to heat up until it starts to smell like burning. So I decided hand sewing was the best way.

I've still got another legwarmer and my full sized Edge cape to do aswell.

To add insult to injury, I couldn't find crushed velvet, so I chose smooth backed crepe with silver gauze to go on top. All night it's been slipping and sliding and arrrghhh  Why did I decide I was making a Bella Donna costume? WHY?!

Crepe is a total pain in the butt. I'm a knitter and I once made the stupid decision of lining a piece of knitting with crepe - sewing linings to knit fabric is awful no matter what, but crepe - ick. I wanted to stab. Good luck!

Ok, just got back from Motor City; went to the restaurant with my mother, her husband, my sister, my mom's friend, and my mom's friend's boyfriend (or something)....
Crab legs-- what can I say about them other than that they're gross? Just about everyone there had 20 crabs on top of their plates-- this is an all you can eat type thing btw. It was absolutely nuts :distress: After dinner, we-- sans the friend and bf-- drove around downtown showing Dominic, the stepfather, "the city"-- sans the boarded up houses, coney islands on every friggin corner, liquor stores galore, etc.

So now I'm back at my grandmother's house, finally. I guess today was a interesting day lol.

We've found that our pizzas are best when a man named Marcel makes them, so the moments leading up to that first update that gives you the name are tense. Oh, also, most terrifying moment of my life- I ordered a pizza alone one night (yes, I know that's akin to drinking alone, but I have needs :o ), and I was given the notification that my order was being delivered by Attila.

I haven't tried their molten lava cake. Hmmmmm...

I do have some Mac on vinyl, namely a copy of Rumours, but the way I got it was funny. Y'see, it was originally my dad's album and he had gotten in 1977, and when we had bought a record player, it was the first album he played. I fell in love with it (along with many of his other albums, like Born to Run) and he told me I could have it if I made him a CD copy of it. Lo and behold, I did exactly that, and that sucker is now mine.

JTIS I got all my junk out of storage and into the new house yesterday! Still have some work to do before I can get the place inspected and move in, but I am excited!

Also, now I feel like my back is going to fall off, but whatever. Furniture be moved, including the awesome solid wood china hutch I got off some dude on CraigsList for 25 dolla. Kitchen has ugly yellow walls, but awesome retro-y black and white tiling on the floor, backsplashes, and up to the chair rail on all the walls, so I'm gonna sand the hutch down, paint it teal with some black vines up the sides, replace the glass in the doors with mirrors, and use it as a pantry in the kitchen, because the kitchen closet is way too small to hold all my ramen.

Gonna paint the walls white to get rid of the yellow - I like yellow for a kitchen, but feel like it should be a sunny yellow, not this bizarre muddy yellow they chose - and eventually get a 50s-style diner table & chairs - you know, with the chrome and red vinyl? Except I will get rid of the red vinyl and reupholster with teal vinyl. I like teal.

:]

Speaking of painting things - anyone have any experience with indoor wall murals? I have the most badass idea for my bedroom ever, but I could use some input from someone that's done a wall mural before before I go flinging paint around and making a mess.

We should be moving in some time next week. House needs inspected so I can get the occupancy permit first. Many hoops to jump through to just live somewhere down here in Missouri. I do not pretend to understand.

We had to use 35 different verbs in all forms except present...so I wrote about what I did last summer  easy (in english at least lol)

I remember Spanish in high school...for 2 years in a row, I had the same teacher that was originally from Honduras, and while she did have an easy-to-understand accent, the most I recall was when she was on maternity leave. Hey, watching stupid movies is a helluva lot better than having to take the 3 hours of hell known as the Spanish Regents (they're a series of exams in various subjects high schoolers in New York State have to take if they wanna graduate). I still remember, instead of studying for it using one of the little red Barron's books everyone got for their Regents, I tried watching movies I knew and loved in Spanish (OK, all I watched was Aladdin, but it did work, considering I got a 96 on it).

While there's no doubt you can't help the way you feel about certain people, you'll find that some of them are best just to let go, like I did with Tessa last week. (Surprisingly, I don't find myself regretting my decision, which I'm finding a little strange, because there's a certain sense in which I still mildly regret never staying in contact with a girl I "liked" two years ago... probably because we were so friendly during the semester of uni, but didn't stay in contact during the holidays and beyond). As for being embarrassed, just remember that something's only embarrassing if the person trying to insult you is right. In this case, they're not right, so there's nothing to be embarrassed about. :)

So....an update on the guy i like? Today in class he was like, "You're gonna grow old, live in a trailer, with 100 cats blasting Fleetwood Mac". I was like, "Is that a bad thing?" and his response, again, was "You're gay." I just ignored him the whole class, but then as i was leaving the classroom, he shouted down the hallway, "Miranda, you're so kinky!"

sooooo embarassing....:(

WHAT A JERK ! I'm seriously pissed. Why can't people just respect what you like? Is he a friend (besides the fact that you like him)? Because, if he is, he should be more tolerant and try to care about your interests, and if he isn't, then it's none of his business. Nobody should judge you for what you like, or for what you are. (but this situation seems to be usual, for today's teenagers).

The never of him!

I swear, guys in high school are so strange. I tried to be friends with a guy once and he thought I was hitting on him.

Hate to break it to you, but guys OUT of high school are still pretty strange. Mind you, the odds of encountering less strange ones grow as you get away from high school, but strangeness still abounds.

(but they teach us when we're young that if they are a dick to you it just means that they like you...smh).

I always thought that was a strange idea. "Well, that just means he likes you," my mom would say whenever that stupid kid Kevin would sock me in the stomach on the playground in 1st grade. Even back then, I was like, "So, wait, he expresses affection by hitting me so hard I want to puke? Screw that."

Don't put up with this junk, you young'uns! If I guy is a jerk to you, then he's a jerk. Period. Not worth your time. Even if he's dreamy or has good hair or whatever.

I'd never heard the name Jeordy before either (I thought it was a nickname...nope).

Twiggy Ramirez's real name is Jeordie White, if that counts.

I know I say this pretty often, but you make me really, really, really happy. I second the "stay away if he's a jerk to you" thing, but I emphasize the "to you." I do this because I love arrogant douche bags. Just not the ones who are douche bags to me (though being arrogant around me is neutral to positive.) You know what, maybe I should just not give this advice.

So, have you guys missed my contributions to this thread? I doubt it  I'm going to share a few things to make up for lost time, though.

1. I am absolutely in love with my job this summer. I'm working in children's advocacy, and it's a really exciting (read: terrifying) time to be doing the work I am in California right now; the Governator thinks it'd be sweet to slash the child care budget to, oh, you know, 0. His proposal isn't going to pass, but it is keeping me busy. I'm more and more convinced by the day that I'm going to applying to Teach for America rather than law school in a year's time.

2. A friend and I went to see Wicked last night in San Francisco. Sixth row center tickets at the Orpheum. Bliss. I'm honestly not a musical person, but this one exceeded every expectation I had. If anyone hasn't seen it yet, you've got to. If I hadn't seen Jude Law's Hamlet last November, this would, hands down, have been my favorite theatre experience.

3. I've gotten two comparisons to Jackie Kennedy in the past 24 hours. Prior to this, I had....well, 0, again. California must be doing something right by me. Actually, I've also been referred to as "dark Irish" about three times in the past week. California must just not be as used to us Micks as Boston and Pittsburgh are.

Aww. :xoxo: I'm just that charming.

I love a good arrogant douchebag, but there's a difference between charmingly arrogant douchebaggery and just being an asshole. If someone is insulting you to the point where it's actually hurting your feelings, that's crossing the line.

Everyone's mileage varies on this one, though, of course - I mean, one of my oldest and closest friends & I have a relationship based largely on trading creative insults that would make other people cry. I would not let ANYONE else get away with saying some of the things he says to me, and I know it's the same way for him. It's just a thing we do. At the same time, though, I know he'd be right there for me if I needed something, as he has done in the past, and vice versa.

I love religious bumper stickers of any type. Two favorites, both of which I spied in Michigan:

"Evolutionists do it with increasing complexity."

"Go ahead! Have another abortion! - Satan"

That second one was spotted on a car absolutely covered in pro-life & Catholic stickers, and it was prominently displayed right in the middle. I about pissed myself giggling.

I gotta get back to learning to play guitar again soon, but last time my cousin came over, he was on a blues "kick" (it lasted only a week) and pretty much got my dad's old acoustic six-string all out of whack while tuning it, and I'm not exactly one that could tune a guitar.

I saw it twice - once in Melbourne with my mum, aunt and cousin (I honestly thought I'd never see it, and could hardly believe I was actually there when I saw it), and once in Sydney when my mum and I agreed to see it again while we were interstate with my stepdad David (he was at work, but wouldn't see it anyway, despite our praise). Why no hijack? Hijack fun! Hijack insightful!
You'd have to elaborate on what you mean by imagination vs. straight facts... perhaps we have different (incommensurable?) understandings of the terms? My understanding is that of Einstein's:
"I believe in intuition and inspiration. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. It is, strictly speaking, a real factor in scientific research."
Cosmic Religion : With Other Opinions and Aphorisms (1931) by Albert Einstein, p. 97; also in Transformation : Arts, Communication, Environment (1950) by Harry Holtzman, p. 138
It took me ages before I figured out what he was getting at... admittedly, that was when I'd only heard the paraphrased version, "Imagination is more important than knowledge", though - I only discovered the full version a moment ago.
(Have I been sufficiently disagreeable, or do you require more refutations?)

We actually have the same understanding, then. You can't figure out anything until you really open your mind to everything. The difference, though, is that once I know the "answer," I still like living in the world where everything's possible.

I can believe things that are true and I can believe things that aren't true and I can believe things where nobody knows if they're true or not. I can believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny and Marilyn Monroe and the Beatles and Elvis and Mister Ed. Listen–I believe that people are perfectible, that knowledge is infinite, that the world is run by secret banking cartels and is visited by aliens on a regular basis, nice ones who look like wrinkledy lemurs and bad ones who mutilate cattle and want our water and our women. I believe that the future sucks and I believe that the future rocks and I believe that one day White Buffalo Woman is going to come back and kick everyone's ass. I believe that all men are just overgrown boys with deep problems communicating and that the decline of good sex in America is coincident with the decline in drive-in movie theaters from state to state. I believe that all politicians are unprincipled crooks and I still believe that they are better than the alternative. I believe that California is going to sink into the sea when the big one comes, while Florida is going to dissolve into madness and alligators and toxic waste. I believe that antibacterial soap is destroying our resistance to dirt and disease so that one day we'll all be wiped out by the common cold like the Martians in War of The Worlds. I believe that the greatest poets of the last century were Edith Sitwell and Don Marquis, that jade is dried dragon sperm, and that thousands of years ago in a former life I was a one-armed Siberian shaman. I believe that mankind's destiny lies in the stars. I believe that candy really did taste better when I was a kid, that it's aerodynamically impossible for a bumblebee to fly, that light is a wave and a particle, that there's a cat in a box somewhere who's alive and dead at the same time (although if they don't ever open the box to feed it it'll eventually just be two different kinds of dead), and that there are stars in the universe billions of years older than the universe itself. I believe in a personal god who cares about me and worries and oversees everything I do. I believe in an impersonal god who set the universe in motion and went off to hang with her girlfriends and doesn't even know that I'm alive. I believe in an empty and godless universe of causal chaos, background noise, and sheer blind luck. I believe that anyone who says that sex is overrated just hasn't done it properly. I believe that anyone who claims to know what's going on will lie about the little things too. I believe in absolute honesty and sensible social lies too. I believe in a woman's right to choose, a baby's right to live, that while all human life is sacred there's nothing wrong with the death penalty if you can trust the legal system implicitly, and that no one but a moron would ever trust the legal system. I believe that life is a game, that life is a cruel joke, and that life is what happens when you're alive and that you might as well lie back and enjoy it.

Okay, three very separate JTIS's

1. I really enjoy the days I can pull off not having brushed my hair. For those of you who don't know how I look, I swear it's not like a hobo.

2. You know I like my girls a little bit older ;)

3. I'm going to dinner with daniellaaarisen tonight :)

Maybe in the name of science you could ask this guy to maybe grow a beard too. Just in the name of science, not that we know or have the hots for anyone with blue eyes and dark curly hair that used to have a beard at any time, nope, nope, nope!

Actually, he does have a goatee going, so we're good there. Oh yeah, AND he plays guitar. Score!

That's fine with me. Of course, that isn't as bad as this one forum, where a guy thought I was a guy in touch with my feminine side, not a girl. Seriously.

As for going to science, let's consult Zombie and see what she thinks.

Jaycee is a bit young for me, but if he's serious about doing science, perhaps you or one of the other young'uns can do the research? Everybody's happy!

I used to chat in Yahoo chat rooms regularly before they started to suck, and I was constantly being mistaken for a dude. Never got accused of being in touch with my feminine side, though. People would actually ARGUE with me when I would say I was a chick. Eventually, I found it so funny that I put a picture of me in one of my corsets on my profile just to freak them all out.

 Well thank you. I had typed out a response to you in the color thread about how our two perspectives are never going to meet, and I included a huge Neil Gaiman quote that is pretty much the definition of why I love imagination more than straight facts...but then I thought we shouldn't hijack. Again.

And you read Neil Gaiman, too? Why are we not BFFs yet? This is incredibly remiss of us. Remind me to tell you of my awesome assortment of Gaiman bits some time.

And speaking of red haired guys in shades in Miami, might I present Weebl as Justice Shades?

That is true, I did make the Nicksmas list, and I was all *SQUEE* over it, because no one else around here cared it was Nicksmas. Plebes.

I will PM you the stories, as they involve friends that don't need me bandying their names about in a public fashion just so I can bond on a forum over Mr. Gaiman. She did not date him, though, so we're safe there.

As long as she did not date him, we're still good. I'm a little crazy about him. Like, I might be saving up my pennies for the $40,000 he costs for a night. I MEAN LECTURE.

It was such a different piece for him. You could tell he was really focusing on creating a fantasy world, and his own little fairytale, and I honestly thought that he shone in doing so. My one problem with Neil is that he has this tendency to get bogged down in his own details, and he doesn't leave enough to the imagination-- that definitely wasn't a problem here. That said, the characters and plot were obviously not as developed as in, say, American Gods. But who cares?

Oh and she WOULD be a tree. Or, wood nymph turned tree, who was still pretty cute as a wood nymph. She just would.

"But will you find me if Neil makes me a tree?"

I love how much they reference each other in their work. I'm crazy about both of them, and they go together like peanut butter & jelly.

"Smoke & Mirrors" is my all time favorite Gaiman book, but I love Stardust, as well. It's like a perfect little fairy tale, not too overdone, not too underdone. Just right.

But yes, I do not know anyone that has dated him. And I kinda want to smack Amanda Palmer upside the head A LOT. Not because she's dating him, but because she's a horrible person. Every time she opens her mouth, I am just like, "Oh, Neil...what are you DOING?"

Someone please tell me kicking an addictive caffeine habit is worth it, because so far it doesn't seem like it. I've never been so irritable about certain things and just BLAH in all my life. :( The things that usually make me the happiest are now starting to get to me, and then there is this constant tired feeling even when I'm not even tired/sleepy. I can't believe it has this much of an effect.

It's ridiculous, I'm so close to just saying f*** it and go back to my coffee. At least I'm not like this on it.

That sounds seriously cool. Alas, I'm not one for tats at all, and if I was to get any music-based tat at all, it'd probably be something from Led Zeppelin, like the falling Apollo from the Swansong Records logo or the 4 symbols from IV, but if I got a Mac I'd probably get a penguin.

Hello, Evelyn Evelyn.

Yeah, that was GREAT (http://community.livejournal.com/sf_drama/2778366.html)! I mean, what's a little crip-drag amongst artists? Did you see how she went on Aussie TV to make fun of the disabled feminists for having the misguided, silly temerity to be offended by her behavior and point out that it was wrong? Yeah, that was fun, too (http://hoydenabouttown.com/20100302.7291/not-your-punchline-amanda-palmer/). And edgy.

I also love that one time she tried to put Lady Gaga down for the product placement in that one video with Beyonce by tweeting, "ironic product placement is only ok if you take no money & beyond that give all the income to something ironic. like the Klan." (http://www.journalfen.net/community/unfunnybusiness/238972.html) Y'know, 'cos the Klan is so ironical. And edgy.

Oh oh, and what about that time she found a Katy Perry lookalike to rape in effigy on stage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOVcgOwquDA) with Margaret Cho (WTF, MARGARET CHO?!). WARNING: That link is extremely NSFW, possibly triggering, really disturbing, and downright disgusting - particularly when you take into account the fact that Palmer has previously touted herself as a survivor. BUT HEY! It's OKAY! She was doing it in support of gay marriage! How ironical. And edgy.

Allow me to do my highly accurate Amanda Palmer impression, if you will:

OMG U GUISE! LOOKIT MEEEE (http://gofugyourself.celebuzz.com/go_fug_yourself/2010/01/golden_globes_amandapalmer.html)! OMG. I'M SO NONCONFORMIST, AND, LIKE, QUIRKY AND STUFF! IT'S ART! LIKE, I'M SORRY YOU'RE OFFENDED, BUT THAT'S YOUR FAULT (http://twitter.com/amandapalmer/status/9214135460)! GET OVER IT. WAIT. WHY'D YOU STOP LOOKING AT ME? LOOOOOOOKITMEEEEEEEE!"

Yeah, she's a real piece of work, that one. She's just all kinds of fail, and doesn't seem to get why the stuff she does is bad and she should feel bad. And while Neil is not responsible for her actions nor should he be made to be so, it is unfortunate that he gets a little too smoke-gets-in-your-eyes & tries to defend that kind of **** from time to time in public.

Inspection for my new house is tomorrow! Hopefully we pass so I can get my occupancy permit and move the hell in already. I miss all my stuff. And I have glorious plans for renovations.

Still stumped regarding decor for my bathroom, though. House appears to have been built in the 50s, and as such, the bathroom is covered in orange and yellow tile (floor AND walls) that remind me of what it must look like if a gelato shop drank too many peach daquiris one Friday night and vomited explosively before passing out in a heap of pastel ew.

But even though yellow/orange is really not my style, I'd hate to wreck original tiling, because it's in fantastic shape and that stuff was built to last. The bathroom still has all its original fixtures, from the white ceramic pedestal sink to the old school white & chrome toilet, which is pretty cool.

So I need to figure out a way to make it work. Sigh.

Also, have I mentioned lately that I love Dead Can Dance? Because I love Dead Can Dance:

Cool. Last show I saw was Jethro Tull here, at the outdoor ampitheater: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jones_Beach_State_Park

it was freezing that night, but they put on a good show. I swear, Ian Anderson was nuts with his standing on one foot while playing thye flute and dancing around like that and whatnot.

EDIT: I just found the actual venue I saw 'em at there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikon_at_Jones_Beach_Theater

1. I just agreed to go see Blondie in Boston in ButterCookie's honor.

2. I had the most amazing day at work today. Honestly, one of the best "normal" days I've ever had.

3. ...and a day like this has to end perfectly. So, after I do a few chores (promised myself I would), I'm putting on a loud, loud, LOUD Stevie Nicks/Tori Amos/ Bruce Springsteen/Hole/NIN/Joni Mitchell mix (yes, I know, it's strange, but it's my definition of musical heaven), taking a bubble bath, and curling up with some tea and a good book for the rest of the night. This is going to be so good.

Tonight, on the way home from the Cat Stevens / Yusuf concert (which was very good, but ironically not as enjoyable as Darren Coggan's "Peace Train: The Cat Stevens Story" of two months ago, where Darren very accurately covered Cat's songs and talked about Cat's life), I heard the song I haven't been able to identify for about two years - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcKZoFRpZCI. Now my life is complete... except for that bit about understanding the universe as much as humanly possible...

Well, my house inspection went really well, all things considered. Only a few small things to fix before the inspector comes back tomorrow, and then we can (hopefully) move in.

I look forward to this, because I am tired of hanging out of windows as I scrape 50 year old paint off of the sashes outside and reapply new paint with naught but my one foot hooked around the ledge to support me.

Actually, I don't mind that part so much.

The part I mind is where Boy What Carries Things bursts into the room of wherever I am doing this and shouts, "OMG ANNIE WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU ARE GOING TO FALL AND BREAK YOUR ASS IN HALF AND DIE AND WHAT WILL I TELL YOUR CHILDREN WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN OMG."

Look, if you're worried about me falling, don't pop 'round corners unexpectedly and scream.

I didn't know Cat was touring, how was it? What was the setlist like?

This is the 10/6/10 (Perth) setlist:
1. Lilywhite
2. The Wind
3. Midday (Avoid City After Dark)
4. Where Do The Children Play?
5. I Love My Dog
6. Here Comes My Baby
7. The First Cut Is The Deepest
8. Fill My Eyes
9. Boots and Sand
10. Shamsia
11. Miles From Nowhere
12. World O' Darkness
13. Maybe There's a World
14. Matthew And Son
15. But I Might Die Tonight
16. (Do You Remember the Days of the) Old School Yard
17. In the End
18. On The Road To Find Out
19. Tuesday's Dead
20. Roadsinger
21. Don't Be Shy
22. Waltzing Matilda
23. Bad Brakes
24. Be What You Must / Sitting
25. Morning Has Broken
26. Wild World (Zulu Version)
27. Wild World
28. Moonshadow
29. Father and Son
30. Peace Train
Encore:
31. All Kinds of Roses
32. Rubylove
33. I Think I See the Light

Offhand, the only difference I can see is that he sang "Peace Train" last in the Encore.
As I said, it wasn't as enjoyable as Darren's performance. The Cat had a habit of singing half of a song before drifting into another one, usually seamlessly... I guess that's fair enough if he feels bored singing songs in much the same way as always, but it did feel a bit disappointing - seeing as he hasn't toured in such a long time, it's not as if we've heard him doing the same routine lately! He may also have done that because he was telling the story of Stormy and Moonshadow for about half of the concert, which he later revealed was a musical he was working on... that kinda just made the concert feel like a bit of an advertisement for what he really wants us to see...
His performances were better later in the night ("Tuesday's Dead" was most enjoyable!), but by that time I was feeling pretty tired/headachey from the late night I'd had (damn World Cup and its watchability!), and starting to think about my upcoming exam, so I wasn't entirely with it.
Also, so far as audience interaction goes, I personally found him a bit mixed:
"Melbourne is just... plus so many things..."
  Anyone care to decipher that? This was better though, after someone cheered unnecessarily loudly from the back-right of the venue:
"Gee, you're not shy, are you? I'll dedicate this next song to you."
Care to guess which song he played?
So, all in all, enjoyable, but underwhelming.

Seems odd that that he'd perform a rather comprehensive setlist and leave that one out.

Hmm... that would've been nice to hear. The most notable absences for me were "Into White" and "Longer Boats". I guess, considering the amount of material from Roadsinger, there were always going to be quite a few songs left out that I would've liked to have heard.

I guess i always found him to be a bit weird (it has nothing to do with his religion and everything, but just the fact that his live performances can be very, very different from the original. It just almost changes the emotion, that's why i hate Sad Lisa live, and it is one of my favorite songs ). Anyway, i think the setlist is great, i would die to hear peace train, don't be shy and i think i see the light live ! Into white and If you want to sing out are missing indeed, but i guess we just can't be all happy. Last love song would have been great too. And is it me, or are there a lot of songs here?. 33 !! Now i really understand why you were tired .

Since I got out safely and before the major drama began, I can actually cross it off the list of insane things I never particularly wanted to be a part of yet happened anyway. Thank you! It's a pretty surreal experience...saying "goodbye" to people, and not just "see ya tomorrow". Seeing everyone come out for the graduation. Tons of people since I went to one of the biggest schools in the state. And then just sitting here now, thinking that in a few months I will be starting college, and going into that totally different world. It's crazy. Sad, exciting, and a little bit scary all at the same time. But the future is bright and I'm happy for what's to come.
