How hard was it to get that Ewok off the moon of Endor? Did you have any Scout Troopers chasing you down on their speeders? And what color is your lightsaber blade?

I saw a tabloid during a quick pharmacy checkout today that had President Obama on the cover and had no time to open it- the bold caption under the bad photo of Obama stated that he is addicted to a 'cocaine like' prescription medication that he's using for extra energy that is aging him badly. He looks positively geriatric in the (altered?) photo.
I so hope it isn't the drug I think it may be- has anyone seen the article? I doubt that many a Ledgie reads the rags, but if anyone saw the story, please tell me the drug is not adderall.
I was just wondering today if it was making me age faster, now. This morning. I woke up today, and skipped taking my 2 doses yesterday and I thought 'I look way better than usual'. Mornings are scary!
The rag was 'The Examiner'- I don't buy tabloids-- since tmz.com, there's less reason than ever to pay $4 per rag for non-instant scandal! Is Obama on adderall? What's the cocaine-like prescription med, I wonder?

- which by the way, is not cocaine like at all, it's a tad meth-like, if anything.

The rags like that aren't my thing either and of course, this is the tabloids messing with people again and making up stuff. I'm thinking some sort of steroid could be cociane-like, but don't bet on me.

In the meantime, what's adderall for?

First off, which publication had that sensational Obama headline? If it is anything other than The National Enquirer, I would not think anything of it. Say what you will about the NE, but they have an astounding track record of breaking real stories. They still get flack about their flakey reputation from thirty years ago, but these days I consider them to be a valid source of information. That being said, a "cocaine-like" substance could be basically any kind of central nervous system stimulant from caffeine to amphetamines (diet pills) to ADD drugs. As for aging quickly, I think you can look back at the last few presidents to see how the top job in the world takes its toll- Clinton, Dubya and Obama all aged dramatically within their first two years of office. If Obama needs to pop a caffeine pill here and there, so be it. There will be plenty of time to sleep if/when the Tea Party takes control in 2012 .

I'm on Adderall, but only 10 mg a day. When I start working again (in 2 days, kill me now pls.) I'll probably have to up it - I'm naturally very low energy and it seems like everyone wants cocaine addicts for employees.

markolas

Of course, if my supervisor is a See-You-Next-Tuesday, the effects of the Adderall might be canceled out by the copious amounts of Xanax I'll be popping. lol

I hope that one day I'll be able to get a job where I won't have to be heavily medicated just to be able to function. I really don't understand how people do it. I worked for a couple of piranha women from hell and in less than two years, I'd had a nervous breakdown that left me completely incapable of dealing with authority figures and mindless bureaucracy.

I don't understand how people work jobs like this for years on end without either having the IQ of a tennis ball, or being in a constant, mind-numbing benzo haze.

Markolas, good luck with the new job. 10 mg a day is a very low dosage, I am on 40mg a day and have been for many years- the maximum 'respectable' dosage is 60 mg a day (two 30 mg pills)- I take 2 20 mg pills per day, the 2nd pill is taken about 5 hours after I take the first dosage.
I also find the 'time release' or 'Adderall XR' is not the way to go- you want it to be reliable and kick-in within 30 minutes. The Xanax you mentioned could definitely work against the adderall working- it's prescribed to me for sleep, and usually- sometimes- knocks me out fast.
10mg a day of adderall would be a tease for me, but if it's been enough for you, that's great.
I hope the job isn't a stressful one, and that no 'See You Next Tuesday' types surface instantly- though they always do eventually, somehow!
Well, congratulations on finding a new job in a tough job market, nicely done! You may even like it, a lot!

My weekend has been ruined...
My shiny new House Leader wants me to come to school on Saturday for a detention. Reason why? I could not make my way to a religious service in the city. I could not make it to this event as my parents were working, and I had no means of transport.
My parents aren't letting me go - this is actually my first detention.
According to the 'rules' I'll get SUSPENDED if I do not attend this stupid detention. Jeez, some teachers have to know when they are crossing the f*&^%(& bloody line.
Please help, my ledgies. :(

Well, the doctor wants me to take more - like 30-40 mg, but I'm kinda scared to. There was one day when I took 30 mg and was up for 24 hours - and wasn't tired at all. Of course, I was also drinking Diet Coke all day along with it. lol Anyway, it kinda freaked me out. Do you find that you have trouble sleeping with Adderall? That's something else I'm worried about. I've always been kind of an insomniac anyway.

The Xanax was prescribed (along w/ Zoloft) for panic disorder. I don't take it too terribly often, but it does help me sleep like a baby, and nothing else really does (it even works better than Ambien, which completely lost its effect on me after about 2 weeks).

This is a seasonal job I'm working - I also did it last year, and the supervisor I had was okay, but I dunno if I'll get the same one. It's only for about 3 months, but it pays well, and I'll be able to save some $$ to pay for school. I've basically been a house-husband for the last couple of years...having a man w/ a job has been a truly wonderful thing for me. :D

I'm still battling depression myself, and trying to not let it take complete control (Which is easier said than done). I've shared stuff on here just to be able to feel that I had some outlet to get the crap that was/is depressing me off my mind - and that someone would understand what the hell I am going through and have my back (For sympathy? No...For encouragement? Yes)

This message board has been THE only one home for me...I feel I have enough friends here who can give my guidance when I 'cannot see the trees for the forest' (Or is it the other way around)

Just hang in there and don't give into the feelings of hopelessness...Keep your mind occupied with positive thoughts and keep going forward and onward is all I can give to you as advice from one 'metalhead to another'.

You shouldn't be obligated to attend any religeous gathering and punishing you for not doing so is crossing a line, definitely. Would he have given the same punishment to a Buddhist or Sikh student, for example? Field trips here aren't considered obligatory and anything outside of the school timetable/syllabus isn't considered their jurisdiction.

...And thus the painted mask of self denial returns to please the audience. Tonight's program shall be a brief biopic of antithetic responces to ones own heart in honour of bringing honour and restoration to a doubtlessly shattered image. Sprinkle on the flowers my good Bee and watch the crowd scratch their heads in wonderment at this oracle of spectacle...

The funny thing Bee, is that the school rules state that anyone who has to go to school for a Saturday detention has done something EXTREMELY bad. Failure to attend, suspension from the college.

Why was the school forcing you to go to a religious thing anyway? I thought Church and Schools were totally separate? (Unless I've got the wrong end of the stick here)

Hopefully, the school will listen to your parents. A few years back, my old English teacher (and I used that word loosely; worst. Teacher. Ever.) tried to give my friend a detention when he put his head on the desk (he had flu and looked like death... you could tell he was ill by looking at him) his mum kicked off, and the teacher cancelled a detention and sent a letter praising my friend to the heavens and back

Same with most of the USA, really. I went to a Pentecostal/Southern Baptist high school myself. We had Bible class daily, 2 hours chapel services every Friday (where we were screamed at, threatened, and guilted by a new traveling preacher every week), and the word of God even found it's way into our algebra books. So I know exactly the shoes you're in!

Really? Wow, I can't picture that at all. I mean, at Primary School we went to Church three times a year; Winter, Easter and for Leavers, but;

A) It was during normal school time
B) If you objected, like religiously, you weren't forced to go.

But Secondary school onwards, it's been mostly religious free. Apart from my cousins, who went to a Catholic school, I've never heard of anything like that happen in England; whether it be in public or private schools. So it's totally alien for me

I went to a Catholic school and had to lie about my mum's religion to get in  I don't think getting out of Mass on religious grounds would have gone down very well at all!

I hated religious studies and the only way my year got such good grades in our exam was because the invigilator gave out the wrong paper so we saw the question. We were supposed to know 8 parables by heart. None of us knew any so when we found out, we only had to learn the one :D

At one time, I had gone to Hebrew school on the weekends (I went to regular public school in general) to learn about my religion. While different things about it bugged me, such as the fact that everyone was much more religious than me and made me feel bad, but the fact that, since I wasn't having a Bat Mitzvah and didn't need lessons for it, took me out so I could have the Hebrew alphabet crammed down my throat. It drove me crazy and I left after a year

a public high school...and I remember when the school's "Teens For Christ" celebrated the national day of prayer stuff around the flagpole (Out in front of the school) they thought it was for ONLY those of the CHRISTIAN faith, not any other religious faiths.

It turned into a big deal very fast once the media became involved - and most of the public (IMO) seemed to favor the "Teens for Christ" opinion. WTH? Made me wonder what happened to "freedom of religion?" Typical 'Bible Belt' malarky.

So hard for me to imagine--I spent 13 years at a secular private all-girls school that ran far in the other direction. We were actually an incredibly preppy student body, but they (rightly) pushed diversity hard. Kwanzaa was given at least as much attention as Christmas in lower school even though only one girl in the class had any African ancestry, and she considered herself Hispanic and didn't celebrate Kwanzaa. I'm sure we 300 little white girls in uniforms looked ridiculous singing Siyahamba at our holiday program, but I loved the African songs we sang. Honestly, people probably would have had to fight the administration to start a Young Christians group.

I thought schools and religion were supposed to be separate in U.S. public schools. Still, at my son's school, they say a 'blessing' before going to the lunchroom. I wasn't thrilled when I heard that. I asked my son how he felt about it. (He's 8 now, when I first learned of this, he was 6). He said he was okay with it. Still, I felt that as parents, we should have been informed that this was being said in the classroom. What if our child believed in something other than Christianity? For the record, my husband and I are Wiccan. We have always let our son choose what he wanted to practice. He goes to a Baptist church with his grandfather.

And the most ridiculous aspect of it is that my family was anything but religious . Plus I had never stepped foot in a church in my entire life. So why did they send me to this place (under protest)? Da blacks. They didn't want me to attend the local public middle school, which had 90% black students. So they would rather have me subject to brainwashing and abject bigotry rather than, heaven forbid, going to school with black kids.

The Baptist school was horrible and racism was tacitly accepted, e.g., my douchebag social studies teacher called me his "little Asian friend." And of course back in the stone age, racial objectification was quite the norm, especially in a private school shielded away from the prying eyes of political correctness. And being a tiny little sh*thole of a school, the home economics teacher also taught science. So how does a Baptist school teach the theory of evolution? Easy. Evolution is a myth, and things like dinosaur skeletons and fossils were placed on earth because God wanted to give Man a riddle to solve. I kid you not. Needless to say, it is no pure accident that I am militantly agnostic today.

This would be funny if it weren't so SAD. I threw my lower back out this morning (first time in years- may have had something to do with the nicksfix chat last night). That's bad enough. Today is my mother's first day of chemotherapy and I am now IN a recliner next to her- LOL. It's only us and another woman way down on the other end. The nurse felt so badly for me- she asked if I wanted a heated blanket!

Only me.

I think it's brave to post about yourself. Really brave. I noticed that people who are able to talk openly about themselves are also the ones who are the most appreciated here. So you should go on. Or not, if you can't (i personally can't, cause i'm not brave at all).
I like your posts a lot, and your shyness/humbleness too.

It's very difficult for me to express myself in almost any situation, so I usually don't and keep everything in. Lately things are just plain bad. I would never commit suicide for fear of hell (really dumb reason, I know). I would never subject my mother to that ordeal as well. Everyday I just go through the motions in life for others. I just need this pain to end. Wow, did that sound like a pity party or what? Sometimes I would like to slap some sense into myself. Hard.

And Krista, thank you for your words. You've always been one of my favorites. :xoxo:

:(. I think a lot of people are not aware of your situation, because you rarely talk about it. I'm not saying you should complain all the time, but i'm sure someone can help you. And it doesn't sound like a pity party. It's a natural thing people do when they feel down : they talk about it. (and we are "listening" to you, for sure :)).

That my school is rather annoying...they like never tell us when we have days off until the day and before...So today is Presidents Day and pretty much every school has no school so I figured I didnt have school(plus I had work at 3 and school doesnt get out til 3:30)...So I was asking my friends from school if we had school and I got different answers so I didnt go..Come to find out we DID have school!! Like WTF! Colleges and High School's have calendar's saying what holiday's you have off and my school doesnt "Private School" or not...Its not like we can email the owners anyway because they dont have emails(at least school ones)....

We have a comment and Suggestions box at school and I'll definatly be writing something!!! I had my mom write me a letter to excuse my absence.

I'm ashamed of myself for liking a Cee Lo Green song. But goddamnit, F**k You aka Forget You is catchy as all hell.

Just be thankful you guys don't have Domino's. I only had it once after it had been improved and even then, it was the nastiest pizza I ever had (then again, this coming out of the mouth of a purist who considers New York pizza to be the only real type of pizza, but I do enjoy stuffed crust from Pizza Hut and frozen stuff like DiGiorno). Hell, I heard from people that had eaten it before the improvement said it was a major improvement, and that before it was basically cardboard with ketchup

I exercised that first day but haven't gone back since. My back pain cleared up quickly- I have very strong medication on hand for emergencies. I just haven't been able to figure out how to make the gym fit into my schedule again. To go to the gym before work, I need to get up at 5am. I did just that for over a year, so I know it's possible. I need to find a way to force myself to do it for at least a month.

My mom has been such a trooper. Today the mouth sores popped up and she could hardly talk. Thank God I have a wonderful pharmacist who suggested a combination of mylanta and liquid benadryl mouth rinse. Worked like a charm!

My mother is amazing and will get through this, but man it is tough.

I hope your mom gets through it and my thoughts are with you. Besides, I can relate to having a loved one in the hospital, which happened to me recently.

On a lighter note, I just found out today that I shouldn't eat lunch on my lap anymore . I was in the Sci Fi Forum, was about to eat lunch, and put my drink on the floor. Somehow, the whole thing toppled over and now the carpet is wet and sticky from Dr Pepper (and I have learned that i should eat at a table for now on )

SHE'S SO DULL. It's not even funny. Everything from her looks to her personality is just straight convention with no hint of intrigue. I wish the rest of the world agreed with you, but I literally have had four people tell me that watching Anne last night made them realize how alike we look. It's funny that it's all really casual acquaintances, though, and (save for one who always claims to see it) no one who knows me outside of "girl in English class" or "girl who lives down the hall"

You need to transfer to UT ;). It was 85 degrees and glorious here yesterday... naturally that means I spent the day laying on a rock naked with an adult beverage in my hand at Austin's nude beach on the lake :p.

It's crazy, I guess it's the incredible climate and infinite outdoorsy activities... but I've never seen more model perfect bodies anywhere in my LIFE than I have in Austin. I'm trying hard to join that train, but my body isn't having anything to do with it .

Me too, on the inspiration. I hate winter, and I've been kind of down in the dumps, lately. After 16 months of eating only salad for dinner, about 5 nights a week, I'm pretty sick of it. I.want.more.to.eat. I've only put on about 5 lbs, but I can feel the difference, in my stomach.
So, it's either go back to salads, or start working out.

So the salads are how you lost all your weight? What all do you put in them, out of curiosity? Meaning what meats/veggies/dressing/etc? I've been trying for nearly a year to drop some weight to absolutely no avail. I'm like 210 (I'm 6'3"), and all I really want is to drop about 20 pounds.

Yeah, pretty much the salads. Although I only eat once a day, now, so obviously that's had a big effect, too.
So, spinach, red onion, 1/2 of a boiled egg, ONE slice of bacon. With a few sea salt bagel crisps. And REAL blue cheese dressing(not a fan of light dressings).
Although lately, I've been making this dressing that Mom used to make....mix mayo, vinegar, and some sugar....and it ROCKS(I love bitter, and the vinegar slaps you right upside the head!). I just put it in a squeeze ketchup bottle(like one of those that a restaurant refills), and shake the sh*t out of it.

And everyone is like, "how in the world do you go 24 hours, without eating?"
I'm just used to it, now. That, and I drink 2-3 liters of water, every afternoon.

Hmm, I don't think most people can't go 24 hours without eating. But I'm totally used to it. Some days, if I'm having to do a late soundcheck, it might be 28 hours or so, since my last meal. Hunger IS something you can get used to...it takes a while, but you can get used to it, where it doesn't bother you.
And don't get me wrong, I LOVE food. However, I like being thin, even more than food! Add 23yo booty into that equation, and I don't wanna ever be fat, again!:blob2::blob2::blob2:

Surprised so many people think so--I don't see it at all. I think she can be lovely, but she has one of the odder faces in Hollywood. Gigantic features on a small head.
And I'm not a fan of hers either. Yesterday I was reading Gawker, and one of the writers said of her, "There's nothing worse than an arrogant dork." Nailed the problem, I think.

I'll never understand the Academy, especially since in recent years the Best Picture winners have all been these dreadfully boring indie flicks. I remember in the philosophy class I took sophmore year, we got to watch different movies based on our subject at the time and one of them was No Country For Old Men. My professor told us how this won Best Picture a couple of years ago and it got me thinking: that's the same award given to Mary Poppins and, come to think of it, the big differeence between these 2 big winners is that, IMO, Mary Poppins is actually entertaining

To me, cricket is like a boring, endless version of baseball that involves a paddle and a lot of boredom. At least I can get excited at a baseball game, even if it was the Mets ;) (my dad had gotten free tickets for 'em twice at his old job and both times, they got absolutely creamed by, of all teams, the Milwaukee Brewers (yes Matt, there are in fact teams worse than the Brewers) and the Arizona Diamondbacks)

Just sharing, because I'm about to burst:

I just found out I got a summer internship at my favorite tabloid! I've been reading it since I was 10 years old, so this is kind of surreal. I'm confident I belong there--I know more about celebrity gossip than any human should. Reading blogs and watching interviews will be among my duties, so for once I won't have to consider the hours I already devote to these activities as time wasted. It also just seems like such a fun environment--their office was so much more vibrant than any other I interviewed in.
I've been so stressed with midterms and next year's housing, and now that's all melted away. I've already flipped out to my family and friends, and have now moved on to spreading it about the web, apparently.

This is so f*cking cool. Congratulations. I can't even imagine the competition you beat out for that.

My roommate's best friend is driving me insane. She's a friend of mine, too, but I can't stand her lately. We've gotten in a few heated debates lately (specifically regarding Playboy and 9/11) and each time, we have COMPLETELY contrasting opinions. I wouldn't mind if we were having an intelligent conversation about these things and were open to each other's opinions, but she has absolutely NO knowledge on either subject. I mean, none. And I'm no expert and I admit that, but I am a lot more educated than her on it and a lot more open minded. She's the type of person who knows next to nothing about what she's talking about but is also ADAMANT that she's right. It's starting to really get to me-- every little thing she does has been pissing me off lately.

Ugh.

I won't get into that in too much detail on here because I don't want to piss anyone off but basically, she was saying that Playboy is the worst thing to ever happen and it's the nastiest porn ever and that Bush was behind 9/11, we've actually captured bin Laden and didn't tell anyone and we're the worst country ever for trying to establish democratic values in Afghanistan.

I'm not black or white on either issue but the fact that she's so extreme about things she knows so little about pisses me off....

I was a total REM nerd between 1983 and 1987. What an incredible string of albums! I first saw them opening for the Police back when Murmur had just come out. To be honest, they didn't leave too much of an impression on me then. But I was interested enough to pick up the album (I heard "Radio Free Europe" constantly on the radio) and then I was pretty much on board until Document. I dunno... something changed once they got onto a major label and you could finally hear and understand Michael Stipe; I liked it better when he was just kind of mumbling in an echo chamber way down in the mix. And with their harder edge sound, they weren't ever again able to capture the quiet desperation of "So. Central Rain (I'm Sorry)" again. I found Green to be unlistenable. Ever since then I have paid no mind to REM. Pity.

I've had a couple of cuckoo roommates myself. One much more so than the other - I don't even know where to start w/ that one. I'll just say that I strongly suspect bipolar disorder and leave it at that.

The other one slept w/ his ex-bf's ex to get back at ex-bf (even tho he swore up & down that wasn't the reason...please). But that was nothing compared to the antics of the bipolar one. He was really crazy. Bat****.

I can see why their later work would put older fans off of their music, considering the stark change in directing. Even comparing a song like We Walk (Definitely Murmur's answer to Shiny Happy people) with Shiny Happy People itself and despite the bright overtones they're a world apart. They lost their edge, but in doing so helped attract the more mainstream fans, I suppose. They're an interesting band to follow as their shades vary so greatly, much like Fleetwood Mac, though their only major staffing upheaval was in '97 when Bill Berry hit the bricks. Reveal would be the album that springs to mind when I think of unlistenable. Individually the songs work. But put them together and they coagulate into this drippy, honey suckle bucket of "shut the f*ck up". Puts me in mind of loafing in a baking hot car with one CD on repeat until the point that it blurs entirely. But other than that I do adore most of their albums, though I do have a soft spot for Out Of Time as it has my favourite "Country Feedback" on it. The CD version is good, but the live Perfect Square performance in Germany, with Peter Buck's amazing riffs, gets me every time. His riffs are absolutely euphoric.

The Family Guy scene where Peter wishes for theme music was made for people like him. Though, I suppose it would be rather epic to have music playing during important moments in your life. Though knowing my luck, my "walking down the street whilst feeling empowered" song would probably be Tootsie :/

Hilarious. I'm sure it was crazy annoying at the time, but the story is golden.

Bat****.

There's really not much scarier than living with someone that unstable, right?
I spent last summer living with 4 high school friends, and one of them had developed serious mental problems since we graduated. I strongly suspect she was either a pathological liar or had a delusion disorder--she told so many bizarre lies that by the end of summer, we didn't trust even simple statements. Literally, if she announced, "it's raining outside," we would have to check for ourselves.

Ugh, it drives me insane when people are that convinced they're right--especially when they know nothing about a topic.

And the Playboy thing reminded me of an argument with another roommate. This one I still adore, but she can be very rigid and overly demanding of people. She recently told me that she could never date a guy who looks at porn. No Playboy, no internet porn, not even occasionally. Like, do these men exist? And aren't there worse things in the world? But she was adamant that she would dump a guy if she didn't like his browser history. We spent literally five hours arguing about this.

Unfortunately I have another year, and I'm also applying for a Masters Course in Chester that begins September 2012. I'll have to apply for part time because obviously I'll be in another city, so I'll need to find a job so I can live. The walls are beating as though in distress, the computer screen I'm staring at burning brightly with luminosity of ever changing colours. My skin is crawling, my eyes bulging with the threat of bleeding and the sound of my breathing in this otherwise silent room is threatening to shatter the fragile glass of my rained out window. I am omniscient. Omnipresent. Oblique. I need to sleep. There are too few hours in the day for so many hours I must fill in order to garner the least amount of success I am capable of. Hours. Days. Weeks. Months even. Awake in silent, lonely contemplation of my failings. What I lack and how what I strive to achieve is affected and adversely suffering because of it. I am a painter. But blind to life's colour. I am a friend. But most often happier in the company of I alone. I am a writer. But lazy to the point of destroying any evidence of my meagre endeavours. I am a trusting soul. But paranoid of everybody and in a constant state of fear of how they feel about me. I am a person. But annoying as ****. I am family. Yet I hate the one I came from. I need to sleep. I am lonely. Yet it is the fault of I alone. Bus stop beds. Park bench homes. A nightly ritual in hiding from that which makes me miserable. An act which only serves to send me to a newer level of purgatory. Rambling. It's what I do best. I speak. Because I can. I argue with myself. Because with me I don't agree. I rant and I rave. Our language has wisely sensed the two sides of being alone. It has created the word loneliness to express the pain of being alone. And it has created the word solitude to express the glory of being alone. Astonishment is the root of philosophy. Decision is a risk rooted in the courage of being free. In my case yes, either I work my bum off on a subject I hate for the sake of 20 UCAS points, or spend that time working towards grade 8 which I love doing, which will get me either 55, 65, or 75 points and actually be useful in the long term since I want to go to music uni. I let myself get upset over it and it took me months to realise how dull I've been :p

Would a picture of Jesus without the beard and mustache be a collectors item?

With something like that, I'd say it was the artist's name that would decide whether it was collectible or not, rather than the subject matter. For example, there's bound to be a higher value if an artist like David Hockney or George Romney painted/drew it, rather than Joe Bloggs whom nobody has heard of. Art is like Celebrity in the sense that you're trading on a name, no matter how good the work actually is.

Oh Buddha I'm a Wimp....Why am I reduced to a blubbering fool during every TV show/Movie/Song containing tragedy?

Haha, I was a blubbering fool last night cause I made the mistake of watching both Fox and the Hound and Click :distress:

I have, but I only felt profound happiness when old man Sandler died. Buddha knows I hate that man. The only character he knows how to play is himself.

No Bee nooo!! Old man Sandler dying wasn't the worst part though it was pretty bad... the worst was Sandler replaying the last time he saw his dad :distress:
