Oh, if only. Well, there's no children here, adults only, it seems.
My sister once described it to me as 'taking the teeth out of the tiger'- an expression I'd never heard, but the way she said it made me think it's commonly known. She meant talking about something you just don't talk about, getting it off your chest, so it reduces the power of pain, terror or shame. I couldn't do it. Different than 'JTIS' really. Very.
I think it would almost need a moderator. Well, we have moderators. I guess I mean a daily monitor or moderator.
I have one idea, and I like so many of the writers here, but I could verbally get murdered.
So, a "Too Much Information, With No Judgement Of Something I Haven't Even Told My Shrink"- what, who me? Yes, I do have one! The collective gasps I imagine are deafening, baby. (only if it surprised a soul).
I imagine it that it can't be about anything violent, causing harm to others, illegal, or too disturbing as to create mayhem. Or is that both too vague and too specific?
Does anyone know of such a forum maybe outside of The Ledge?
Important but difficult or embarrassing true confessions, they have to be true, no making a thing up. Maybe helping yourself. Or maybe there's a good reason not to talk about it, if one just never has been able to.
That's it, it's embarrassment and shame. The Embarrassment and Shame Forum.
Ah, there must be one somewhere already.

I actually totally dig this idea. I think letting out the good, bad, and ugly is the most cathartic thing you can do as a person. The good thing about sharing TMI is that you have the ability to help others by proxy. So many subjects are taboo to the point where there's no healthy discussion of them, which causes mistakes to be repeated again and again. No subject is off limits for me personally... but I'm sure that won't be a unified sentiment around here. To me knowledge is knowledge is knowledge. And I love soaking up information about absolutely everything... so bring it on, I say!

I don't know if this is TMI, but it's probably more that you want to know about my dream.
Last night I dreamed I had The Dance CD, and eveyone was buck naked on the album cover. Christine was wearing a black feather boa.
Then I went to one of their Dance shows, but I believe they were clothed.

Okay... over a dozen posts later and there's barely anything I would consider TMI. If you're all for it, then when are we going to start reading anything truly TMI:
-Grooming habits... down there?
-Tampons or pads?
-Lights on or off?
-Top or bottom?
-Floaters or sinkers?

Recently, I hung out with this guy Jim I met in the Sci Fi Forum and it was all fine and dandy. I found out he was a sophmore and I figured he was 19, 20. I was dead wrong: he was 28 and in the army before going to school. Being 20, I found it kinda creepy, but look on the bright side: I had fun smoking pot with him

This is no longer the 70's, pass me a razor.
Tampons. Always. Unless it's bed time and I'm stone cold unconcious. Pads make me gag.

Fine, I'll reveal what goes down with me during that time of the month too. I start with pads and, as it gets lighter, I go to tampons (and I refuse to sleep with one)

It's definitely not pretty or pleasant, but it's something every living thing does. For that reason alone, it shouldn't warrant the stigma that is placed on it. Maybe if folks were more open about it, it wouldn't seem as oogie? Just think about the extent humans go to in order to hide this one particular body function. God knows, it'd be less stressful for us all if we didn't have to worry about all that as much.

Sure, yes. Manscaping, not baldness. Scissors above, a Bic disposable under. What, all your guys nuts can't take a scraping?
-Tampons or pads?
I thought they were the same thing! What's the difference between them?
-Lights on or off?
Hmm. Off, but with strobe lights, so it's like an event.
-Top or bottom?
Neither. It's more about having a specialty. Top- less than 10 times in my life. Bottom- Never have, never want to. Oh, I'll go you one more on the TMI- two more- which will totally explain why I am single! Females, please forgive me, I know this will sound horrible: I don't 'get' guys f**king guys, if ya wanna f**k, women are built for it!
That's fun. But, it would be unfair to her, as I think:
Oral however- should only be for either two men together or for two women together.
The last unfortunate M- a long time ago said to me: "Well, I always have. (Whining, I think). But I really like you. It's ok. I really, rilly like you, we should date, anyway, it can still be a lot of fun".- Like I said, I specialize. He was happy.
I liked him, thought about it, then...
Me: "What's the point, sooner or later you're just gonna cheat on me with some as*h*le!"
-Floaters or sinkers?
Oh, really, now.
I don't know, but have you ever been prescribed opiates? I suspect not, or you'd know either or both are welcome, but like someone else wrote, I don't inspect or critique it. 'Both' would be the answer. Oh, I did not like that question. But I answered it.

Dodfather! Everyone should enjoy what they enjoy with another consenting adult, obviously.
This was true confessions time. My failings. My hangups, my situation. For me, no way from a woman. I'd never be able to look her in the face again. To me, that's an act between two men, I'd hate it from a woman. I know, messed up.
I also see that as an act between two women, and can't do it. I also don't like an act most gay men like, at least one of the two guys, but don't dislike it with a female in the traditional or 'missionary' sense- it's been so long, I forgot the term!
So, you see, it's not a debate. It's dysfunction. I think. Definitely.
"I" don't get... lead to the part you quoted.
I expect everyone to disagree.
If I could enjoy what I don't enjoy, I would. But I don't, so I can't. Everyone else should!

Guys,
I think I can speak for most memebers of this forum and posters to this thread (please correct me and accept my spologies if this is not the case) when I say that the intention of this thread was not to make anyone feel less than anyone else. No-one is a "freak", has reason to be embarassed, or anything off that nature. Please do not "compare" your own lives and experiences to anything read here in a non-favourable way.
I for one feel that this thread in fact promotes the opposite response. It lets us see that everyone is different and has stories to tell without fear of ridicule.

I still have mine!! And I'm so damn glad. I've discussed going that far with boyfriends but now, I'm so glad I haven't, they wouldn't have been worth it. Let me say first of all that there is nothing wrong with being chaste in this day and age. However, what can sometimes tend to happen is that, in the interest of leaving things intact, the other two, um, entrances are utilized in a grossly disproportionately prolific manner, which kind of defeats the purpose of preserving ones, uh, wishbone to begin with.

Also, for a little more TMI, as most of you know, I'm a type one diabetic which provides for many embarrassing situations during frisky moments. Nothing like getting a girls leg wrapped up in your insulin pump tubing and ripping it out or being half naked and having to ask, "Uh, do you have any juice? My blood sugar is low." I'm giving details because I'm drunk and totally open about these things anyway.
Shave all the way. These days no one wants hair down there. And it's uncomfortable anyway.
Tampons. I don't think I've used a pad in my life.
Lights off, or mood lighting. There's something totally sexy about silhouettes and leaving a little mystery there still.
Bottom, but that doesn't mean I'm opposed to being on top. It's a mood thing.

Not usually. If you don't notice it is ripped out for hours, your blood sugar can go high, but that usually only happens when you are sleeping and the adhesive sticks to the sheets. You have to insert a new tube every three days, so it isn't anything too terrible, you just have to insert another one! But it can be painful, make you bleed everywhere, make the bed smell like insulin (which doesn't smell bad, it just smells very synthetic, kinda like band-aids, very strong band-aids), and cause the girl to freak out! But I guess that is what they should expect when ****ing a cyborg!

Just a suggestion... a shower before bedtime will go a long way towards assuaging your paranoia about catching the cooties. I'm sure you wouldn't mind being touched with his hands. But his hands have been in arguably far worse places than the tubesteak.

I think it's interesting and shocking at the number of people who don't look. It is supposed to be one of those primary indicators of health and wellbeing, ne c'est pas?
I was staying at this hotel in Munich many years ago and much to my horror, the toilet had this weird configuration in which the water pooled in the front rather than the back, which was like a raised platform. So, in essence, you had to, uh, make deposits directly onto this raised platform. And no, it was not a bidet! It was absolutely the creepiest thing I'd ever seen. Perhaps it's customary in Germany for people to inspect their remnants in 3D before washing it away?

No Preference at all - I am 33 now so its cool but when I get older I might want them off - ha ha!!
Always on top but thats only because my hubby prefers it that way ;)
I do look only because I seem to have digestive issues lately but thank goodness they are sinkers - ha! I used to get freaked out talking about that stuff but after years of being around my hubby and then hanging out with his brother, I dont care anymore. I think I talk more like a guy now - lol!

What happens when you pull 'em out? A "pop" sound accompanied by a squishy splash noise? Does the bathroom floor get messed up?
Since we're talking TMI, might as well let it all hang out. Because I seriously have no experience with this subject.
Ok, when you pull a tampon out, you grab the string that hanging out and pull it out. it comes out smoothly and it makes no noise, but you do it over a toilet. There isn't a mess, but the only plop is if you throw it into the toilet (I prefer to throw one in the garbage all wrapped up cause i'm afraid of clogging something).
If anyone has anything to add, write it.

That reminds me of when I saw a Cat get into next door's rubbish bins. I accidentally scared it off and it ran away...complete with a used pad stuck to its ear. Had it been anything else I would have helped the little thing...but yeah. Love Cats but I don't like 'em that much..
Everyone should check. Even a quick peek. Bloody stools can be the sign of a whole host of problems.
A quick peek will also ensure it doesn't look too big to flush and cause a septic system hazard. Though I'm not sure at that point what you could do even if it was, besides finding a spoon or spatula to scoop it out.
A spoon? I hope you don't forget its previous use and use it for your Coco Pops....

Not at all, I've always worn them overnight and change right away when I wake up. They are 'technically' made to be worn up to 8 hours (although I never do wear one near that amount of time) and considering I barely sleep 8 hours at once anyways it doesn't worry me. Going over that amount of time would be risky.

Love that term! I suppose familiarity does reduce your sensitivity to it, but I suppose that does depend on the person. I'd just leave the room and let them handle their own business transactions (j/k hehe).

It's my favorite Mexican dish! I only order combination plates, that include Chile Relleno! So, I finally got the courage to try doing it. It is a little time intensive, just preparing the poblano peppers. You first have to roast them, then cook them wrapped in a wet paper towel, which makes the skin peel off....then dip them in a thick batter, and fry them...THEN, they're ready to be stuffed and cooked. And the batter is a little time intensive, too. You separate egg whites from the yolks, and beat the whites. Then add back the yolks, and flour.
Then I stuff them with chorizo, cheese, onions and salsa, and bake them until the cheese is melting.
WHAT I'm missing, though, is the proper cheese....does anyone know what kind the restaurants use.....that just OOZES all over the plate? I thought about using nacho cheese, but that wouldn't be the right flavor.....anyone know?

No, I don't take shots, the insulin pump continuously gives me insulin and when I eat I have to input the amount of carbs and administer a dose of insulin via the pump. It can be thought of like an IV, but it doesn't go into your veins like an IV, rather it is injected into the fat. You use a needle to inject the tube and then you pull the needle out and the tube stays in. It also doesn't drip like an IV, it utilizes a piston to accurately inject the insulin. Here is what the infusion site looks like and you can see the pump hanging off to the side.

I come from a divorced household, I was too young remember the experience of living under the same roof with both parents.
I've never walked into them 'doing it', but almost every night I hear them doing it. It's really disturbing, like we'll be sitting at the table and my step dad will hint at having sex with my Mom that night, and I will just be, "Well, my head phones are going to be my best friend tonight.." It just sucks when your bedroom is right across the hall from theirs.

Way better than shots. With shots, you have to take fast acting insulin and slow acting insulin. This means you have to mix insulins and take shots at certain times every day. I took shots for my first three years, and for three years I had to follow this schedule:
7AM- take a shot and eat 75 grams of carbs
10AM- 30 grams of carbs
12 Noon- shot and 75 grams of carbs
4PM- shot 30 grams of carbs
7PM- shot and 75 gams of carbs
10 PM- shot and 30 grams of carbs
I had to follow that schedule everyday for three years! And since you are taking both slow and fast acting insulin, there was really not much flexibility with the times. Also, I was taking set amounts of insulin, so I had to eat those exact amounts of carbs. So if I was hungrier, I couldn't eat more. And if I was full, I still had to eat all those carbs! The pump only uses fast acting insulin, so you can fine tune your "background insulin" that offsets the normal rise in blood sugar due to your liver and you can administer more insulin for the carbs you eat, when you want to eat them. I can now sleep in. I can now eat as many or as few carbs as I want. Also, when I go places, my pump is with me. I don't have to load up my vials of insulin and some syringes along with my glucose meter. Another thing, the insulin pump continuously monitors my blood sugar, so I know if it is shooting up or if I'm headed for a low blood sugar. It really doesn't come down to the pain from shots, because they aren't that painful, it is that the pump makes management a whole lot easier. Only downfall tho is that the pump is expensive! Also, I do have to wear it most of the time, but there are times when I can take it off. It easily disconnects from the tube that is in your body, so you don't take the tube out when you need to disconnect, you just disconnect it from the infusion site. I usually only take it off to shower or swim or exercise.

So John, how much of diabetes is genetic?

Type 1 diabetes is tricky. Type 2 diabetes is very clearly caused by genetics, age, and/or lifestyle. They know that type one diabetes is not caused by your lifestyle or age, however, it is not clearly genetic either. I am the only person in my family with type one diabetes, but some families seem to have multiple type one diabetics. They don't know what causes diabetes, but it is clearly autoimmune. Something causes the immune system to attack the insulin producing cells. Some argue it is caused by a lack of vitamin d, some say it is because our environment has been made so clean the immune system no longer has to spend its time attacking so many foreign invaders that it decides to kill time by attacking the bodies own parts, others say it is strictly genetics. But at the end of the day, we still don't know.

I believe a pad is simply a pad that stays on the outside and absorbs the blood, whereas a tampon is shoved inside the vag.

I would think the pad feels wet and mushy when it's ready to be changed. Tampons probably are better.
I can't imagine having to deal with that, several days a month....;)

So how long have you been diabetic? Does the "illness" progressively get worse?

I believe a pad is simply a pad that stays on the outside and absorbs the blood, whereas a tampon is shoved inside the vag.
I so wish I could 'like' posts. Like, damn. Good description, John, couldn't have described it better myself. 'shoved'. And to whomever asked, pads don't really get mushy or wet when they're ready to come off, at least mine don't. Of course if they overflow they will, but technically they're alright.

I've been a diabetic for 7 years. The illness itself does not really get progressively worse. If you gain weight or become less active, your blood sugar can become harder to manage, but the disease does not become progressively worse on its own such as cancer or AIDS. People usually do not die from diabetes or high blood sugar itself (even tho it does happen), what people usually die from are the complications that arise from diabetes. When your blood sugar is high, it causes damage to every organ and blood vessel in the body. Over time, this can lead to poor circulation and nerve problems, which can make injuries turn into gangrene very quickly, cause blindness, loss of feeling, kidney failure, heart failure, heart attacks and strokes. The disease itself is a bitch, but the things that arise from the disease are even more of a bitch. Diabetes accounts for 44% of new cases of kidney failure, 60% of amputations, and is the leading cause of blindness.

Well, it does get worse in the sense that the pancreatic beta cells producing endogenous insulin die off over time as the underlying pathology (i.e., autoimmune process) continues unabated. This invariably means having to increase meds/insulin to compensate. But, yes, it's the complications of the disease that are the most worrisome rather than the disease itself. I am confident that a cure for Type 1 diabetes that addresses it from the immune side of things will be found in our lifetimes.

My mom's been diabetic for about 33 years, and has been legally blind for about 5 years now.
Thanks for all the info a while back, a perfectlie. Her doctor said she isn't a candidate for the insulin pump because of her age (70s) and that while the pump is great for many diabetics, not for her. We were disappointed. So, it's still testing 3 times a day, and Novaflex 3 times a day (insulin pen) and then Lantis before bed. She's been shooting up insulin 4 times a day for many years now.
It seems now that she's older, the 'highs' aren't nearly as dangerous as the low numbers, and her doctor has adjusted the insulin so she runs a little bit high to keep her readings from being under 100. It's been working.
But it was probably the highs during the decades that caused her vision to go.
The hard part now is keeping her appetite up, so she can take the Insulin.
I think it's time for new questions, Hejira so far was the one who came up with the qs that jumpstarted this idea. Next post--

I just remember as a kid back in the 1970s that my mother (who was totally about the pad; you're welcome.) had boxes of these ginormous pads in her closet. I mean, each one literally looked like one of those travel-size boxes of facial tissue. I used to imagine that, on those really heavy flow days, that the pad wearer would feel a glurb of fluid sloshing around the nether regions every time she sat down. It was probably not unlike wearing a wet diaper. And being the inquisitive imp that I was, I used to conduct experiments with them- how much fluid one of these things could hold without leaking. I only recall that it wasn't as much as I had assumed.
Okay, now for all you tampon wearers... once it's in, are you constantly reminded that something is jammed up there, or do you not notice it? If so, do you ever forget to take it out? Has the string ever accidentally broken off? Have you ever lost track of the calendar or forgotten to take pre-emptive measures? Do you cringe every time you hear U2's "Sunday, Bloody Sunday?"

I grew up reading "Are You There God, It's Me Margaret", so when the time came, I thought I was going to need a belt and all that stuff. Luckily, technology had greatly improved the system by then though and everything is so much easier these days! I don't envy the ladies who had to deal with this stuff starting with like, 25 years ago and can you imagine before plumbing, oh goodness.
You don't know something's up there unless you didn't really get it in right. It's really not "jammed", it pretty much slides right in and stops where it's supposed to stop. I pee enough in a day to never forget it's there (the string is a nice reminder, haha) and I've never had the string break off. I think the worst thing about wearing tampon is if you sometimes need to get one out and it hasn't really had much to absorb. Ouch.

I find it endlessly amusing to hear how men envision periods :-)
Tampons are a breeze. You can't feel them at all--if you're aware of it, it's not inserted correctly. The string is REALLY firmly attached--it has to be, because if it did break off and you couldn't get it out, you'd probably have to go to the hospital (risk for toxic shock if one is left in). I never keep track of the calender, and I'm not very regular anyway. I try to keep a pad or something in most of my bags just in case, but honestly, periods are normally very, very light on the first day. At least time to find another woman who will share one.

Hee--I read "Are you there God? It's me, Margaret" and was totally confused by the sections about the belt--very relieved when my mother assured me that no one had used a belt in twenty years. Kind of crazy to think how many tweens Judy Blume has guided through puberty, even if some of those sections are a little outdated.
And yes, I'm very, very thankful to live in an era of plumbing and tampons. I really can't imagine how women did it. But I'm guessing our granddaughters will say the same about us in 60 years.

Haha. Well, most women are pretty open about it with our friends. I mean, it happens to all of us one week a month--no point in being shy about it. No gestures needed (I wonder what such a gesture would look like?)

New questions:
1. Name 1 or 2 times that stand out in your memory as something good you did to help someone that showed a positive result quickly .
*
2. Did you ever accidentally 'walk in' on either parent when they were naked, and/or having sex? Were you traumatized? Were they?
My answers:
1. One time that first comes to mind has to do with one of the sons of my sister. He was maybe 8 years old and feeling badly because he was far behind his peers with being able to read well. His parents were having all kinds of tests done, taking him to specialists, had meetings at the school with his advisor, and he had a tutor. His mom was on the phone with the school and I was down the hall with him. His little face was all distraught because he knew he was being talked about, again.
I told him "Don't worry so much about it, they're making too big of a deal out of it. It just takes a while sometimes for your brain to catch up with you. It will. Relax and don't feel bad about it, and don't ever feel bad about yourself. You'll be reading soon and it will be like nothing. You won't even have to try. It will come very naturally to you, when you're ready. Until then, let 'em wait!" (meaning his parents and teachers, tutor and advisor at the school). He smiled, maybe a little chuckle at "Let 'em wait."
I saw him 2 weeks later and he was reading beautifully like it had never been a problem. His self-esteem generally seemed 'right there' and he wasn't an insecure child from that point on. Of course, the efforts of his parents and teachers helped him along greatly, I'm sure, but I think I 'gave' him something they hadn't.
*
2. I walked in the room once when my mom was undressed, I was maybe 11, and I turned and closed the door and walked away. As I was leaving she called out "I'm sorry" and that was that, no trauma. In fact, a couple minutes later, I went outside, where I knew she wouldn't hear me, because I knew I was going to laugh. I did.
Thankfully, no, never did walk in on my parents having sex. I heard them once, and thought 'ick', 'yuck', 'How dare they?- it's daytime'.
I was a little older, 13 or 14.

It really is funny, how we guys have no idea of what it's like, to have a period. Just like I don't like to talk about poop, I avoid asking about things like this.
I always figured you could FEEL that something was in there, all the time. I guess it makes sense, that pulling a dry(er) one out, would be a little more painful....

Your mom must have been very progressive. Or, maybe it was a practice of 'the old country'-- that's what my relatives called our birthplace, at least.
Your memory of her 'stash' of pads gels with my memory of my Mom, also in the 1970s. I remember that they were these HUGE boxes that said 'Modess' on the outside; which made me think of 'modest' and I thought, 'well, modest maybe, but definitely not discreet!'

Most of them are killed off by the time of diagnosis, and then there is a resurgence of them called the "honeymoon" period soon after diagnosis, but those are then killed off within weeks or months. However, for the rest of your life your body continues to make islet cells and destroy them at usually the same rate. That is why some days diabetes seems to be easier to manage, because your body has killed your cells at a slower rate, leaving a few insulin producing cells. However, aside from the honeymoon period, type one diabetics produce practically no insulin at all. Increases in insulin and meds have to do with de-sensitivity to insulin due to cellular changes in the body, such as weight gain, body growth, or lower metabolism, but not due to losing more insulin producing cells. Type 2 diabetes is however more progressive since it is caused by reduced insulin sensitivity and over increased pancreatic activity which can be followed by even more decreased sensitivity and lower pancreatic islet cell function.
My mom's been diabetic for about 33 years, and has been legally blind for about 5 years now.

Honestly, I'd see another doctor. I understand where her doctor is coming from. She is older and has had the disease for 33 years, why put her on an insulin pump when so much damage has already been done? Why change her regimen now when she is already 70? Why worry about long term complications when she is already suffering from them? But that being said, it is her life. And she is only 70. While that may seem old, it would not be surprising if she lived another 10-20 years. I think an insulin pump would make it easier for her to control her diabetes and make the last years of her life good ones. And the body is amazing at healing itself. Utilizing an insulin pump may actually reverse some of the damage hyperglycemia has done to her body. Then again, I don't know what her medical condition is, so maybe she truly does not need an insulin pump, but a second opinion would not hurt. Many years ago, doctors gave patients insulin and told them to take it to lower their blood sugar, but not to worry too much because there was going to be a cure in the next 5-10 years. People managed their diabetes with the belief that there was going to be a cure, so they didn't manage it well. And ten years later, the cure was still 5-10 years away and they were already developing complications. I just feel her doctor is saying eh, don't worry about the high blood sugars so much, since you are going to die soon anyway. I would hate for your mom to be 80 and suffering from kidney failure that could have been prevented if she had had lower blood sugars today.

That must have been a huge bathtub or you all must have been small! I don't think I could possibly fit two kids in the bath with me. Speaking of bathtubs, my sister once walked in on me taking a bath when I was 12 and she was 16, and then she proceeded to run and tell the entire family that I was masturbating while bathing even tho I wasn't!

Dutiful son: "I will never do it again."
I never did. It never has been discussed by my mom, my sister, or me. Until tonight on The Ledge! Ha!
My father never said a word about it to me, I would bet that my mother didn't tell him. I think she knew she had 'a problem' on her hands and had no idea what to do about it. It just wasn't accepted in the 1970s.

I do think a specialist would be best. I've learned that most doctors who don't specialize in diabetes, have a glazed over textbook approach to it and are actually rather ignorant on the subject. I was hospitalized last year due to acute kidney failure (caused by dehydration, not chronic kidney failure due to diabetes) and my kidney doctor at the hospital made me remove my insulin pump and go back on shots for the duration of my stay in the hospital. My blood sugar quickly shot up to the 300s and then I could not get the nurses to give me any more insulin because they could only give what the computer told them to give. *facepalm* I told them all to go **** themselves and reconnected my insulin pump, informing the doctor the next day that he was there to treat my kidneys and that I would take care of my diabetes. It also took me years to find a family doctor who somewhat knows a decent amount about diabetes and realizes that I see an endocrinologist also, so she doesn't meddle in my diabetes for the most part. However, I do agree with your mom on being burnt out on doctors. I hate going to the doctor. HATE! Especially when they think they know what they are talking about. They look at your and analyze you and lay their medical degree bull**** on you and expect you to just take what they say and go with it. Most doctors just blow. Especially when it comes to diabetes because the patient is the one who manages the disease, not the doctor. Which leads to very educated patients and very uneducated doctors. So I can't blame your mom for her angst towards them.

It's really disturbing, like we'll be sitting at the table and my step dad will hint at having sex with my Mom that night, and I will just be, "Well, my head phones are going to be my best friend tonight.." It just sucks when your bedroom is right across the hall from theirs.
I'm so glad my room is in the basement. If I ever heard my mom and step dad I would be forever mortified. I have heard my sister but that's not as mortifing. It's the whole parent thing. I just don't want to picture it.

Thanks for the many answers on the Tampons. They sound popular. Confusing, though.
I'd think it would make walking strange.
Is a woman able to tell when looking at another woman walk 'Oh yeah, she's got a tampon in?' I'd have no idea.
Does it ever fall out if you run to catch an elevator, a train, a bus, for any reason?
And, what if you're on a rollercoaster, and sometimes they go upside down? If it fell out, would it fly up to your neck after it fell down to your ankles?
You can get toxic schock if you forget to take it out? Dang. Do you pull the string to take it out? Why a string and not a small, thin handle? What if the string breaks? Can you attach another string from an unused one, but then what do you do with the one with no string?
I guess you can go into a swimming pool with them, I seem to remember television commercials that said you could swim, play tennis, go bowling, horseback riding. But wouldn't high tide at the ocean definitely knock it out? Later tv commercials mentioned some of them having "wings"-- Wings? Maybe that was just a phase. What would wings do? Make it easier to remove?
Every month for a week? I guess men should be nicer to women.
I'm sorry, I just find it mysterious.
Ok- last thing- it does seem like the dozen responses or so maybe have stopped- but there's a contraceptive sponge, right? Wouldn't a box of appropriately shaped sponges on a coated string be a better and more economical solution, and you'd be able to wash the sponges in warm soapy water, let air dry like pantyhose, maybe even in the pantyhose, and then reuse the sponges every month?
I think a woman should perfect these ideas invented by men a century ago and make a mint making the lives of women easier every month.

The thing is, she's a lovely girl and always chats when I see her and seems very shy/quiet but man, no way! They say it's the quiet ones aftyer all, hehe. I'm kinda glad I didn't see her as I left for work this morning. She no way knows how much she can be heard, lol.
Ugh, I heard my little Brother and his girlfriend going at it one night a couple of years back at my parents lake house. That place is so strange... the exterior walls are probably 12" thick solid logs, so you hear NOTHING outside. But the interior walls might as well be made of tissue paper. You can literally hear when someone rolls over quietly in the bedroom next to you. Hearing my Brother having sex was in it's own way more disturbing than hearing my parents constantly go at it growing up. Yuck.
I still have yet to hear a neighbor, actually. I feel so sorry for the people who were my various flat mates and/or neighbors over the years, though. Especially during college... sheesh :o

Are you a bit vocal then louie?! Hehe - do tell...
Oh and before anyone asks re. my last post... she's hot and I would. I'd have to see if I could live up to whatever the Hell her guy actually does though, but I like a challenge!
Oh - this reminds me of another story from way back in first year of my Undergraduate (2000). We alllived in halls and there was a group of us sitting drinking in a friends room. We suddenly heard the guy upstairs and his gf/a random/who knows?! get started (THIN walls, ceilings etc) and then, seriously, a minute later... we heard his very happy ending. We sat there and then one of my mates started laughing and we all gave the guy upstairs a loud round of applause!

It doesn't make anything strange. They're designed to move with you. It's not like shoving a stick up there. No one can ever tell that anyone else is wearing one and the way that whole area is built, there's really no way of it falling out either. Your body kind of contracts around it so that unless you give it a little pull, it isn't going anywhere. Strings are sturdy and flexible and don't get in the way too much or make themselves otherwise noticeable. I can't imagine having a handle! Pads have wings, not tampons, and the wings help to keep the pad from moving around too much. They're adhesive bits that stick to the underside of underwear in addition to the adhesive already on the length of the pad itself.
And that's enough talk about that from me this morning! :)

It does depend on the time of diagnosis and when the first signs are noted- hyper/hypoglycemia, HbA1C, etc. Direct measurement of c-peptide is a 1:1 surrogate for the body's ability to produce insulin; this will go down as the disease progresses. Indeed, once you get to the point of requiring insulin, the beta cells are mostly fried.

Another embarrassing story of when I was 12. My sister dressed me up in drag and then took pictures of me. My mom then had those pictures developed and thought they were the greatest thing ever and loved to pull them out and show people. I confiscated those pics tho and now have them stored away somewhere. It's funny to me now, but back then I hated ever posing for those pics!
You.must.share.drag.pictures. Now.
It was a standard issue bathtub. My sister was as old as 9 by the time this practice ended. I think. We weren't big kids. After all these years, what I don't understand is why she made us do this. To conserve water? Yes, family bathing is a tradition in the "old country," but the bathtubs there are enormous; they're often square-shaped and have seats in them. And I suppose the conservation of water in the olden days was imperative, especially if you lived out in the country. But here we're talking about living in a regular split ranch house in 1970s suburban America.
Oh, also, in the spirit of TMI, I was circumcised the summer I turned 9. I don't recall wearing pants that entire summer... Traumatized doesn't event begin to describe it... For literally the next 15 years, showering or bathing was an excruciating experience. You're welcome.

I never walked in on my parents that I recall. My mom, who is generally rather conservative, would share some random TMI things occasionally. Upon being told that I was conceived accidentally (while she was using the sponge or spermicide or something like that), she then proceeded to tell me that they had given up all birth control except withdrawal. Her exact words were, "Your dad is really good at pulling out." She also overshared about her having sex with a tampon in; she ultimately couldn't remove it and had to go to the emergency room.

This thread is gold. No, once it's in you don't notice it (that's why you hear about some people completely forgetting it's in ), I've never forgotten, string has yet to break off on me, I'm so irregular so there's no point in keeping track, and I cringe at U2 period 99% of the time unless it's one of the few songs I like. :D

HAHAHA, yes, once.
I play in a band, and most places, we get whatever drinks we want, for free. Well, that weekend, I was into drinking "Grasshoppers"(creme de menthe, with ice cream). Well, over the course of the entire weekend, I had probably 15-20 grasshoppers. Sunday, I got up and went to the bathroom.....after about 30 seconds of sheer panic, of why I could be dying.....I realized that 20 grasshoppers, will indeed, turn your poo green!

Well, old school of thought was, AFAIK, was the disease HID, under the foreskin. And probably 100 years ago, if people only bathed once a week, this was probably true. Or today, with the French! There was also evidence of lowered cancer risk, on the penis. Not that I've ever known anyone with penis cancer. And I seem to remember something about lower incidence of syphilis, among circumcised men.
Edit, and I also remember there was supposed to be less incidences of masturbation, since an UNcircumcised penis, sort of has it's own built in "pocket pussy".

I have never met anyone else who had it done later in life, so I would like to know more about your experience. That way, I'll know what to expect.
It was inexplicably horrible. For one thing, I really had no idea what I was going in for. I figured it would just be like going to the barber- just take a little bit off the top and the sides. I had no idea that I would end up in the maternity ward. My last memory before going under general anesthesia was looking over and seeing these knocked out women with their huge baby bumps around me. Weird!
I woke up with intense pain. Intense. And it was just a big bloodied pulp down there with nothing but a perfunctorily placed strip of gauze tied around the end, which had already blackened and hardened from all of the bleeding. But as bad as all of that was, I think the worst part of the whole experience was being 8/9 years old and constantly having these strange people at the hospital checking on my junk. So embarassing!
To this day I really have no idea why my parents had me go through with this. First of all, it was NOT medically necessary. I have fond memories of my intact boy parts. And it's not like I had health insurance back then (I nearly died from food poisoning but the parents were too cheap to take me to the emergency room... but that's another story for another time), so they were definitely paying for all of this out of pocket. One theory is that my father started reading this King James bible that had been lying around the house (I don't know how it got in the house to start with), which is all fine and dandy, whatever. But the problem is that English was not his first language. So I figure he must've read all of that spooky sh** in the Old Testament about boys having to be circumcised in order to enter the kingdom of heaven, blah blah blah. And being that my parents are not the brightest bulbs in the bunch, I think they interpreted this literally as, "OMG, if he doesn't get snipped, he's going straight to HELL!" The other theory is that we all went to this old Korean doctor that I despised with a passion. Even as a kid I knew he was utterly incompetent. And he struck me as the kind of doctor who would parrot anything he read, just because I didn't think he possessed the critical thinking skills to draw his own conclusions. So surely he must have read some poorly researched article about circumcision and then tried to act like he was saving my life by compelling my parents to force me into it. Either way, it sucks. It just plain sucks. More than any physical pain, I am just so pissed off that this kind of ignorant misinformation has led directly to my mutilation.
I am curious... why does your son's doctor feel that circumcision is warranted? I can assure you that it's not. The U.S. is like the only country that does this sort of thing routinely, and it's not like the U.S. has the longest life expectancy or the highest quality of life.

Well, as a kid I was not allowed to take showers, only baths (crazy, crazy parents). So dunking this newly exposed flesh (which is full of nerve endings, by the way) into even lukewarm water was enough to make me scream in agony. At first I assumed it would go away as everything healed up. But that raw soreness was there every time I showered... well into adulthood. Oh, and even more TMI... it was so bad that I really could not stand to, um, receive "oral gratitude" until I was well past 30 . The coarse texture of the tongue felt like sandpaper. And if a tooth accidentally got in the way... yowza! The only way I could endure it was if the "gratifier" was able to, um... swallow the sword. To this day it is still not something I particularly enjoy.

^ I am so sorry you had to endure that.
I had been circumcized as an infant, but had to have surgery on my junk when I was 4 years old. I remember it well. The opening or 'slit' to pee was not long enough, and I recall being in horrible pain when I had to pee. I also recall being unable to tell my parents about it. It (the pain) happened one night when we were at a relatives house, I was crying and in a lot of pain and wouldn't come out of the bathroom until my father yelled so loudly at me that I opened the door and left the bathroom. I had to urinate, but was unable. At the front door of her house, I couldn't keep myself from crying, and I was able to tell my aunt what was hurting, though my Mom and Dad were there, it was my aunt who I told. She crouched down to me, and I told her as softly as I could, while my parents were standing right there. This secret I couldn't tell my parents, Aunt Dorushka would help. She comforted me, said something to my parents, and I was brought to the hospital, it was night. The next day I was still in the hospital, and had surgery. The incision was made longer, and no pain after. While in the hospital, my mother brought me a talking Bugs Bunny puppet that I'd pull a chord and 'Bugs' would say a few different things. "Let's take it ee-zeee" is one phrase I recall in the Bugs voice when I pulled the string. I don't remember my Dad being there until he came to drive my mother and I home. A day or so later.
The stitches were a kind that didn't need to removed, and fell out maybe two weeks later. I'm still unsure if it was a botched circumcision that caused that defect of being unable to urinate. Does anyone know if that could cause it?
I do remember that I didn't want to tell my parents because I thought they would just argue about it and it was just pain I had to put up with, but I couldn't stand for them to just yell about it- at each other- and still be in the pain. But I felt that my Aunt would help me and she'd make sure my Mom and Dad got help for me. That's most unpleasant to recall, maybe even more than the physical pain. I thought "I just have to accept this, and I can't tell Mom and Dad." I was four years old.

It (the pain) happened one night when we were at a relatives house, I was crying and in a lot of pain. I had to urinate, but was unable. I was able to tell my aunt what was hurting, though my Mom and Dad were there, it was my aunt who I went to. The next day I was in the hospital having surgery. The incision was made longer, and no pain after. The stitches were a kind that didn't need to removed, and fell out maybe two weeks later. I'm still unsure if it was a botched circumcision that caused that defect in me being unable to urinate. Does anyone know if that could cause it?
I do remember that I didn't want to tell my parents because I thought they would just argue about it and it was just pain I had to put up with, but I couldn't stand for them to just yell about it and still be in the pain. But I felt that my Aunt would help me and she'd make sure my Mom and Dad got help for me. That's most unpleasant to recall, maybe even more than the physical pain. I thought "I just have to accept this, and I can't tell Mom and Dad." I was four years old.
I can't imagine any of that had to do with circumcision; it sounds like one of those freaky congenital things. But it really is telling that you could not bring yourself to tell your parents about it at the age of 4. Have you discussed this with your therapist?

Thanks; Hejira, for the reply. Actually, I hadn't thought about it in many, many years. It was buried. I don't think I've thought of it once in the past 20 years, or longer. I read your account of what happened at age 9, and it made me remember that night in my aunt's bathroom, though your experience sounds much worse than mine. I didn't have years of pain. It all sounds horrible for you.
How I wish now that I remembered, my aunt died a few years ago. She would have been perfect to talk about it with.
Maybe I will mention it to my shrink. I'm relieved that the problem I had was unrelated to the circumcision, for reasons too unknown (just speculative) to go into. Thanks for responding, Hejira :) I always like to hear from you.
Aperfectlie, are your studies you once mentioned to become a doctor? You seem to have the makings, based on the meticulous details of diabetes you have taught yourself- I know you have the disease, but still, you seem needed as a medical professional. Many people have diseases or issues and don't have the ability to know all the ins and outs like you do, myself included. No, not diabetic, yet.
You're at university, still, correct?

I don't really understand the whole thing about whether or not a guy should get circumcized. Can one of you elaborate for me?
There are several reasons why people chose to circumcise:
1) Cultural: People in the US typically chose to do it simply because it's common and they don't want their children to stick out.
2) Religious: Like HejiraNYC pointed out, the Old Testamant of the Bible insists on circumcision. Judaism is famous for this as well.
3) Cleanliness: Circumcised penises are easier to keep clean. Uncircumcised ones are known to develop and collect a cheesy substance called smegma. It's just as precious as the name sounds.
4) Health: Here's where we run into debate. The World Health Organization believes it reduces the risk of HIV contraction from straight females to straight males. Circumcision also is believed to reduce other health risks like Urinary Tract Infections.
I'd say more than any other reason these days, kids are circumcised for Cultural reasons. The are people who feel very strongly about this subject for sure. There is a growing movement in the US which feels it's a barbaric, outdated practice. Personally I like being circumcised, and prefer my partners to be as well. But to each their own. :wavey:

Hejira- I don't mean to get all mushy and sloppy on you, but:
I do disagree about your choice of the word 'mutilation', though.
I only can empathize with your anger, but I think it's kinder to yourself to not refer to yourself as having been mutilated.
I am sure there is plenty to appreciate in the aesthetic of your circumcised self and 'mutilation' is not a word that generally makes one feel good about himself.
What was there is gone, and you're still complete.
That's what I think, which means tons less than what you think, of course, about your own body.
I mean it in a supportive way. You're the complete package, foreskin or no, you know that :)

That's why I made a point to cite it was Old Testament :). Anyone who classifies themselves as Christian should already know that the New Testament is the new covenant... ie: it's supposed to essentially render the Old Testament null and void as far as "rules" go. However, that still doesn't stop fringe groups from citing the Old Testament as the basis and justification for their hatred of certain practices and/or groups of folk . But that's another discussion for another time. I have zero interest, let me state that again:
ZERO INTEREST
in discussing religious matters. :wavey: I'm simply outlaying why some folks cite religion in regards to circumcision... be it correct or incorrect to do so. To each their own in the way they interpret their beliefs. I've always viewed a person's relationship with their beliefs to be like a marriage. It's a private institution which outside commentary is not welcome. Please note again I will not, *WILL NOT* be drawn into a religious debate.

^Me either. I learned my lesson a year ago in a thread, believe me.
In fact, believe or don't believe whatever you believe or don't believe I think is the best motto, decide for yourself.
Now, I'm unclear- just how much interest do you have in the topic? Nah. It was clear.
Zero Interest. That font looked really cool all engorged like it was. So ya have a little interest in the topic, do ya? No wait, that was ZERO Interest.
It really is better that way.
It does seem that we were just a breath away from a 'which do you prefer?' excursion.
Circ or uncirc?
Louie stated his preference for circumcized, I agree and second it.
But I don't want to be in charge of tabulating all the votes, which wouldn't be admissable anywhere, anyway- like, it would never stand up in court. This reminds me of a joke I initially felt would be wrong to respond with, though I only mean it very much that way.
A female Ledgie expressed her curiosity in experiencing an uncirumcized man, as soon as she can: I'm concerned that it might turn her into a lesbian! A JOKE!
First, lesbians are generally incredibly cool, I know many and haven't disliked one, ever. Good people.
Second, there's nothing wrong with being uncut, it's all good!

Thank you for telling me about your experience. Of course, if my son ends up having to have a circumcision done, he will be informed about what is going to happen and why. I'm sorry that your parents didn't tell you what to expect.
His doctor feels circumcision may be medically indicated because he has phimosis. For definition, see this page http://www.medterms.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=4872
Of course, I intend to get second, third, and fourth opinions to make sure it is absolutely necessary. 2 years ago, his pediatrician wanted it done but the pediatric urologist he saw said he didn't want to chance it because my son would have to stop taking other medicines he is currently on for ten days before the procedure. My son was born with heart defects and takes medications for that reason.
So, I would like opinions here. If it is a good possiblity that my son will have to be circumcised, is it better to go ahead with it early on (if a doctor will do it)? I worry that it will be much more traumatic if he has to have it done once he starts puberty.

^ I wish the best for your little boy and for you, Holiday Road. You seem to be the kind of parent who will make sure the best decision for him is reached at exactly the right time. You were able to get him through a dangerous heart disease during his infancy, nurture him to become a strong child, and it sounds like he's thriving. This should be comparatively easier, for you. For him, I think I agree with you that it will be better for him to have this done before puberty, but then Hejira makes me think the opposite. I am sure you will look into every aspect of the surgery and possible alternative, and it sounds like you are a fantastic parent.

Our car was in the shop, so we had to call an ambulance to get to the hospital. Even the EMTs didn't believe I was in true labor. It wasn't until I got to the hospital that I was believed. The nurse took one look and announced that I was already dialated 10 cm. Then, because I was so far along, they wouldn't give me any painkiller!! It's a good thing I only wanted one child. From what I have been told, the first time giving birth is the worst, after that, it is a bit easier. Having a female doctor after the first delivery made a big difference for my sister. The first time she had a baby, the male doctor actually argued with my sister when she was in about her 12th hour of labor, telling her she was the most difficult woman he'd ever encountered in his life. Don't be petrified--think of it as an adventure! If you are curious about cut or uncut: give it a google and get the visual (I don't mean porn-plenty of images online). An American friend of mine dated/married a Briton and the first time they were intimate she thought something was wrong with him--she managed to play it off and not scream but she was confused until a friend set her straight. I spent most of my life in the UK / Europe and was used to uncut...until an Australian boyfriend (cut). I am now married to an American, also cut. Don't be scared--be excited!
As for the 'poop whilst pushing' question: it happens as the same muscles work both. If you have an epidural (done that) you won't know if it happens. Without an epidural (done that too) you might or might not be aware. It just happens--there is so much going on down there that it won't even enter your mind. I promise. When pregnant I was v nervous about this (with my first I wanted my hair done and lipstick on--look good for the photos!) but midwives, nurses, doctors have seen it all and it doesn't phase them one bit. You won't believe the amount of misc fluids that come out and you won't care because your heart will be swooning as you wait to see this little person. I was told that years ago a woman would be given a pre-delivery enema and I don't think I'd want that.
As for 'same down there' after childbirth: it varies. It takes a few weeks/months to heal and following that some women are looser, some tighter, and some about the same. I was told to think of the birth canal like an accordion: it stretches and shrinks back. For me, it was more-or-less the same: after a few months the swelling goes away and things tighten back up. I will say that sex became even better--no complaints before but the increased blood flow and/or hormones enhanced matters. And, do your kegel exercises (very important).

We need to have a detailed conversation about this. I'm literally petrified.
Would that be too much TMI for the TMI thread?
ladies, the guys "with" just end up with it looking like the guys "without" during,
No such as thing as too much TMI for this thread - that's the point of it after all! After all, maybe guys can chip into this thread and give you some tips as to what works! lol
Edgeof27 - I was waiting for someone to say this! I had guessed it would be the case but I'm not in the best position to call it! It retracts after alll... By the way, u/c here and I hadn't realised that it was the "norm" in the US for things to be different. I knew it was a choice made on either cultural/medical grounds but didn't realise it was quite so prevalent in the US.
TMI experience at my new job (a high school where I'm running the admin team while looking for academic work)... an empty box of condoms found under the desk of the depute head teacher who often works at school late into the evening. Perhaps the box got there after being tossed aside from the desk during crucial moments... haha!

TMI
I have serious inability to sleep properly more now than I have in a long time. I am not overmedicating.
On Saturday, I think, I slept for 25 hours, waking once to pee after about 14 hours, stayed awake five minutes, then slept another 11 hours. I planned ahead, because I knew I had a hibernation due, and pre-cooked meals for my invalid parents, who live a few houses away.
After the sleepathon, I was fortunate to also sleep on Monday and Tuesday, about 7 hours both nights, but at a much later hour than I wanted.
No sleep Wednesday night, it's Thursday morning 5 am now.
I took 2 Tylenol PM at 10pm, so that's 7 hours ago. Nothing, just dry mouth.
For the first time in a week, I skipped the Alprazalam, (Xanax) because I just am tired of how it knocks me out for too long, and makes me sluggish the next day. It's not the reaction one is supposed to have from this anti-anxiety drug, but I do. My doctor says it's good that it does give me sleep, because the sleeping medication most commonly prescribed didn't work for me. I forget the name of the drug now, it works for everyone else.
Maybe if I take half an alprazalam I can get 5 hours of sleep. I need a little, only, but I do need some or I'm not going to be able to do all I needed to do later today.
It's a total pain. Knowing I didn't want to take the Alp, I put it in the glove compartment of my car. And I don't want to go outside to get it.
You see why sometimes I write volumes at night. Dang, good dang- I think I feel the sleep tide coming in, exactly now.- Thank You, The Ledge. I hope so.

Random but my Dad's just been to the bathroom, and I swear to Buddha it's burning my eyes. Even my Cat's squinting in apparent pain. If I didn't know it was down to his medication I'd be concerned *is close to throwing up*.

I think the general rule of the TMI thread should be 'nothing is TMI'
I imagine it'd be somewhat simpler to be with an circumsised man to be honest. Foreskins freak me out. Lmao. Had a bad experience with my ex wherein something went wrong down there (!) and he ended up in so much pain every time I touched him that I'm now afraid to do it, even with the person I'm currently with :\ not that that seems to bother him much..!
Wouldn't want to put you off though, Dani. You never know, you might like it! (Judging by your previous statements about certain acts, you probably will ;))

TMI
because I knew I had a hibernation due
You know, it's funny, because I've had insomnia problems for years. I rarely get more than 6-6.5 hours, if that.
The exception? Now. When it's 10 degrees outside, I completely go into hibernation mode. I don't know if it's because I consciously know that it's too miserable to do anything outside, or what......but I've been sleeping about 11 hours a night(and I could even go longer, if my back didn't start getting stiff, from being in bed for so long). And I freaking LOVE it!!!
I must be part bear, or something....

Hmmmm.... I just had a Google images field day. I must say, I am still slightly frightened but if I don't have to do anything differently, then I'll be okay. The question is that I don't know if you have to treat them differently.

Does anybody here pick at their zits? I have the worst habit of trying to pop every single zit even ones that arent popable. One time I popped a cyst and it got infected and kept oozing out yellow stuff. I had a presentation at work the next day and put a bandaid over it because it was so nasty that there was no way I was going to let anybody see it. After 3 days it healed up just fine but you think I would have learned my lesson after that. Lol my old work buddies still talk about the bandaid incident -ha!

If they have ANY sort of white head to it, at all, I take a needle, and open it. I've done this my entire life. Somehow, I ended up telling my doctor about this procedure, a few months ago, and she warned me of serious infections, etc, and to never do it again.
I've done it since I was 13, and I would give my complexion a 9.5/10. NO pock marks, or anything. Good skin! And I said that to her!
So that works for me!
Although I should note, that I never had bad acne. About one zit a month, which I still get!:(

Well if it really is his "cycle", then that's just not fair lol considering what we have to put up with. I'd trade mine for a monthly spot any day.
