If they have ANY sort of white head to it, at all, I take a needle, and open it. I've done this my entire life. Somehow, I ended up telling my doctor about this procedure, a few months ago, and she warned me of serious infections, etc, and to never do it again.
I've done it since I was 13, and I would give my complexion a 9.5/10. NO pock marks, or anything. Good skin! And I said that to her!

So that works for me!

Although I should note, that I never had bad acne. About one zit a month, which I still get!:(

Lol i dont feel so bad now. Zits just annoy me like crazy. It really gets me down when I breakout a lot. I had bad skin for years and when I got off birth control pills (I got a clot in my arm and am never allowed to take any hormonal birth control ever again) my face cleared up perfectly. It has been breaking out a little more lately which has led me to constantly pick at it. I am lucky though that I only have 2 scars from all that it has gone through but then again I have had some foto facials and chemical peels done to my face. I sometimes wish I would just stop carrying a mirror with me. There are way more important things in life!

Or, every 28 days maybe?

This thread is so absolutely gross! :woohoo:

We guys have hormonal cycles, too. And it's usually almost exactly a month apart. It was the same when I was 15. I've always been a once a month, single zit guy! I feel very lucky to have never been plagued with real acne! Good skin is a blessing.

Ugh, skin. Don't even get me started. My skin drives me CRAZY. Everyone tells me I have perfect skin but if you look up close, I really don't. I invest so much of my time and money into getting rid of tiny bumps and they just won't f*cking go away.

Me, I've generally have good skin, but my only issue is irritation from when I get my eyebrows waxed and for some reason beyond me, I get a huge pimple every time my period is about to start. Anyone here have any idea what causes that?

Interestingly enough, I still get one zit a month too, and I'm approaching 30. I thought I was supposed to be DONE with this crap by now! Unfortunately I did have acne as a teen. I never thought I'd be able to clear it up, or erase the scarring. Luckily my first boyfriend's Mother owned a microdermabrasion clinic. Her treatments single handedly cleared up my acne and completely erased any scarring I had.

Well I'm a few years older than you, and I still get em, too! My 65yo aunt says it never stops.
I hadn't even thought about this, though.... Always, always, always, in my younger years, they were either at the bottom corners of my nose, or at the corners of my mouth. Now, they're almost exclusively on the center of my chin. Thank god they're always tiny ones, that a quick needle prick solves.

Louie and Homer, you sound very fortunate. Even as a teenager, I had no acne, never, all of my life. Then, at age 42 I developed acne on the right side of my face, where I shave, and it has never completely healed, for four long years now. It's terrible, tiny hairs growing upside down, sideways, and I always look like I have frostbite from the redness.
I'm a little fortunate in that I can hide much of it with a light coating of zinc oxide and a cover stick, but that inch of my face is in horrible condition. Tweezing it helps some, but also irritates it. For the first time in my life, I understand why some celebrities prefer to be photographed from one angle only and hide the other side.

Louie, I made so many typos in the 2nd PM I accidentally mailed you a rough draft of 20 minutes before also sending the final version. Both have so many errors you will lose count, or laugh til you have tears from it, at my illiteracy. Believe it or not, I meant well, even if it seemed rough, but it's an unholy trainwreck. Do yourself a favor and delete both copies of the 2nd PM, actually it would be doing me a favor, not that you should.

Hey, I can agree to disagree. At the time, I felt I had something worth sharing with you that might matter, but anyone who typed, as I did, 'white wing' when I meant to type 'right wing'- clearly deserves to be mocked and/or ignored.
What a day. Have definitely had better.

I had mild acne as a teen, and it mostly cleared up in college. But when I hit about 29, it came back with a vengeance. Worse than when I was a teen for a few months. I got my birth control switched, and started using DDF (Doctor's Dermatologic Formula) skincare....now my skin looks better than it probably ever has. (I'm 30 now)

I wrinkle paper & other foldable material in a very weird way--it can't be described. I've been doing this since I was a child. I used to practically destroy school textbooks, wrinkling each page. Doing so seems to calm me or something.

Let me try to describe the movement. I take the edge of the sheet of paper in my right hand, thumb atop it & middle finger below the thumb but on the underside of the sheet, & then I press the two fingers toward each other, carefully guiding the resultant switchback, or sharp bend, from one end of the scarp (or fault) to the other, until I am left with a sheet of paper with what looks like a single long scar running situationally along the center.

I do this compulsively, practically whenever I have any such material in hand.

Haha. That reminds me of the last time I got really sick. I'd unfortunately drunk too much Ribena that morning even though I didn't feel well. Anyway, I ended up throwing up bright purple toxic waste over the wall outside of the job centre lol.

Sambuca is the first thing I ever did a shot of xD I've only been sick twice after drinking. So bad once I thought I was going to die, not fun. Will never go there again. ever.

This was my first shot because I'm too tight to pay for them myself. I've never been sick from alcohol before because I don't normally go stupid like this but last night I was sick four times, all separately. yuck

I've only been sick from alcohol once. Several years back my roommate made punch for Halloween and put Everclear in it. David used to be a bartender, so he knew how to make drinks where you really didn't taste the alcohol at all. So after downing several glasses of 190 Proof punch I went from sober immediately to slamming-into-brick-wall drunken sickness . I became closer with the bathtub that night, though I'm sure it wasn't charmed to make my acquaintance . I haven't had anything with Everclear in it since.

Oh gawd :laugh:I've only ever heard stories about Everclear. I managed to down the sambuca, two double rum and coke's (the rum was about 3 years old at that), half a bottle of San Miguel, half a pint of cider, a shot's worth of a mix of Absynthe, Sherry and more sambuca as well has having a sip from everyone elses beer/cider/guiness. The cold tiles in the bathroom were wonderful.

I never actually thew up from alcohol the few times I've drank it. I do very silly things instead. My first trip to London, for example. I had only had two double Vodka and Orange Juices, but it was fair to say that I was swinging. I got it into my head that I wanted to go for a walk late that night, so I took my shoes and sock off and went out for a walk in the seedy streets in my pajamas. Ultimately I got disasterously lost and had to ask the ropiest, rapiest individuals my way back to my hotel. Them not being any help at all, I had to phone my friends and ask them to come and pick me up. They got themselves lost before eventually finding me sat cosily in a Tree.

Now I'm having flashbacks to that night last year I had a huge glass of wine, danced around to Debbie Harry's version of Summertime Blues, then had a can of grape soda and puked purple for half an hour. Fun times. A friend of mine Sarah had to call me to make sure I didn't die because I stopped replying to her on MSN.

Sweet Jesus... I can NOT drink like that any more. Georgie, drinking like that is only possible under 25! I remember back when I was 17-18 I'd be lke that, stagger home at God knows when and be up for work at McDonalds at 7am with the most horrific hangover/still drunkenness and be able to open the restaurant kitchen and cook EGGS! The smell of them witha hangover.. no.

I'd be fine after having a snack on my break. God, no way could I do that now...

My worst drunk ever, was on gin and tonic, when I was about 19. I was DEATHLY ill. I think I hung onto the toilet edge, for at least 4 hours. I remember my friend Bryan, kept knocking on the door, asking if they could do anything for me. My response?

Just let me lay here to die!

And to this day, I can't STAND the smell of gin. It smells like porcelain pine trees!

Well Homer - even though I'm quite the fan of a nice G&T it would seem that Stevie maybe shares your thoughts From a Trouble In Shangri-La publicity interview:

Now about the song"Bombay Sapphires" - has the liquor company called to say " thank you' and sent over some product?

Stevie: " No, they haven't, and it's not 'Bombay Sapphire', It's 'Bombay SapphireS! ( laughs ) I knew people were going to hit me with that. I got the idea many, many, years ago when we were talking about jewelry and stones, about tile and rubies, Bombay sapphires. It's like a blue - gray kind of star sapphire thing, it's the color of the ocean, and that's what I wrote it about. And I purposely put the 'S' on it so that they wouldn't think I was writing about gin. Gin makes you meaaaannn! It's definitely not a liquor I would have written a song about.

I only ever drink beer because hard alcohol makes me so very sick. Ugh i hate the smell of that crap. Also I get that really annoying type of drunk where I cry my eyes out like a baby for hours. Its so ridiculous!
Lol I can drink a ton of beer though. My hubby and I can go out for hours and hours and drink at least 10 beers or more and most times I am not drunk. I think its because we always make sure to eat while drinking. I have to say I love the feeling of a good buzz. Its the best but then again I come from Pittsburgh which is a drinking town and everybody here drinks -ha!
I have cut back though and try to only go out 1 maybe 2 times a week now. I am surprised at 33 that I hardly ever get hangovers. Alcohol just makes me tired that is all.

I know people who are my age (15) that smoke pot and drink a lot. They are basically high all the time.

When they ask me have I ever gotten high or drunk, I just tell them that happens when I listen to the Doors. Seriously their work is hypnotic. - I actually 'tripped' once from listening to their 1967 album.

Well now I feel like a raging alcoholic..!

I woke up at 7am the other morning not knowing how I ended up back in my bed, with badly bruised knees and a hangover fresh from hell. I then went to work, selling food. During the day I got flashbacks of sitting on a street corner in the snow alone, laughing at myself. The last thing I remember is lying in bed on the phone to my boyfriend saying 'half past four, quarter to five.'
I still don't know how I got home that night.

I'm going out again tomorrow..

You're missing alot on the climbing Trees front. The one I climbed in London in the small Park was impressively tall and I got a great view of the City from it. I'm lucky I'm the kind of drunk who remembers what I did in some ways. In some ways I suppose I'm cursed too because I'll forever kick myself for asking a homeless guy where the hotel was. I was alone in the park and, under any other circumstance I would have walked away because I definitely wasn't safe. Oh well. I was neither stabbed, raped or murdered so I did okay.

I am afraid of heights, even when buzzed. In high school, we used to jump a fence, and climb a high, DANGEROUS fire tower, in a State Park. My friends loved it. I hated it, but did it anyway, because I don't let phobias stand in my way, of doing anything. But I certainly didn't enjoy it...my fear grew exponentially with each step(not that I let them see, though).

Ah. That's understandable then, and I'm sorry you're missing out. But it's great that you don't let your phobias run your life as people tend to. For years I was afraid to strike up conversations with people and actually be myself around them. But after a lot of self programming I pushed through the wall and forced myself to put myself in social situations. I may never be a social butterfly or go clubbing like my friends, but I can talk to people openly where I couldn't before. So I'm proud of that. Heights were never something that bothered me really. I always figured that if I ever fell, I'd go into shock before I hit the ground and thus wouldn't feel it (how high does the drop have to be before the impact causes liquidation?). It's funny what you think of to talk yourself out of your fears lol. I was always the person who would go further towards the cliff's edge than anybody else, just to see what it felt like. I've always been far too curious for my own good.

Really, heights and snakes, are my only fears.
I never let heights stop me from being "normal". I hung over the edge of the Eiffel Tower. Only if you saw my white knuckles, would you know what I hid, very well. Same with flying. I usually choose not to, but DO, when I need to. Again, the white knuckles are the giveaway!!!

Edit - oh yeah, the snakes. Terrified. My solution? I mow with a 9mm between my legs, and blow them into little bitty snake pieces(sorry snake lovers). I tackle my fears, or shoot them!

I adore Snakes! My friend used to have two cute Corn Snakes named Jeremy and Edward before she bought her Chinchillas and they were so sweet. Jeremy used to love suckling on my nose, of all things. But I can see where you would be afraid of them. Some species hardly endear themselves with their whole bitey, hissey, venom thing going on lol. Having said that, I've known people with more venom than your average Taipan. I missed out on a visit to the Eiffell Tower when I went to France years ago, but I'm sure it was spectacular even if you were white knuckle-ing it. I hope you enjoyed it. And I havn't flown often. My first flight was around three years ago when I went to Graceland with my Dad (we had four flights in all because there were two connected there from Manchester to Atlanta to Memphis, and backtracked back to Manchester after two weeks) and I thought I would be petrified as I had been having nightmares before hand about the whole "Nothing underneath you" business. But I absolutely laughed my ass off with adrenaline when we were taking off and landing. And during the connector to Memphis, while everybody else aboard was terrified as we were flying through a lightning storm that occasionally struck the plane itself, I was casually catching a few Zeds.

Edit: Whereas I'm not into the whole Snake death thing (very pro animal life and veggie), you saw a challenge and you came up with a solution so kudos :p

My Mom always said my snake phobia was her fault, because she had it, too. IDK why, just watching them move, scares the bejesus out of me. ~shudder~

I've been on Elvis' 3 planes at Graceland! I've only been to Memphis once. I much prefer Nashville to Memphis. I spent 7 weeks in Nashville in 2009, and 4 weeks, this year.

My Mum's got a severe fear of Dogs, and after years of having to walk her everywhere because she's too afraid to go anywhere alone, I've noticed that I tense up when walking past unattended Dogs too. I guess we pick up on these behaviours when we're exposed to them for so long.

I did too! Did you ever make it into Graceland Mansion? I went on the tour (Don't even get me started on the fact that they have mini vans taking you from the entrance to the mansion. Talk about lazy) and my Buddha it was gaudy. Carpeted walls, lime green colour scheme, excessive use of animal print. You can really tell he came from nothing because he spent his new money on all manner of strange things. And I always thought I was strange for preferring Nashville. There just seems to be so much more life there than in Memphis. I loved the bars, the nightlife. The people were so friendly. I remember being stopped on the street by this huge Bear of a man who I was convinced was about to mug me. He told me he liked my dress :o I've never hugged a stranger in the street before, but goddangit it was the sweetest thing. The funniest thing that happened there though was when we were walking from our hotel to the gas station at the top of the street for drinks. We were halfway up and kept having to take breaks because my Dad needed to rest his hands (he has Fibrous Dysplacia and uses Crutches to walk). A homeless man walked past us with one of those heavy load trolleys loaded high with his belongings, and he actually offered us a lift up on the thing. I had to ask my Dad if I'd heard correctly. Nashville has some of the best people lol.

I have a major fear of heights. I will only ride certain roller coasters that dont go too high off the ground and I dont like to fly. I hate being on airplanes and only go places that my hubby and I can drive to. Last time I was on a plane was a trip to Vegas and it was awful. There were soo many delays and then our plane had a problem with the wing and after that trip I swore I would never fly again. I wish I could get back on a plane again but I just cant book the trip. Everytime I think about it I have nightmares of dying in a plane crash. Blah!

Buy her a handgun! But yes, we are our parent's children. Always. Traits run deep.

On FB, I spoke about this, on ************'s FB rant about "lazy American't's", who are too terrified of walking an extra 50 FEET(god forbid us nation of FATASSES, should burn an extra calorie or 50;) )

I loved, and loathed, that ELVIS' appliances didn't match! Harvest Gold refrigerator, and Avocado Green stove(I quite possibly, have those colors backwards). You're the f*cking KING, and can't afford matching appliances????

Nashville freaking RAWKS! The BEST, most down to Earth, loving, caring, genuine people, I've ever met in my life. Even though I'm only a "very regular" visitor, I've made a few friendships, that will last a lifetime! One of my favorites, a bartender from a honkytonk on Broadway....she and her boyfriend....have opened a new BBQ restaurant, in Springfield, TN, and I now drive out of my way, to eat, and visit(for hours, sometimes), on my way home.

On Memphis, I didn't like playing hopscotch, at 2 in the afternoon, over 1 passed out BUM, every 3 feet.

I'm grateful I don't have any phobias to speak of. I've always credited my upbringing for that; whether or not that's a correct assumption, I don't know. My parents made it a point to expose me to absolutely everything in life- I was sheltered from nothing, and was made to try almost everything conceivable multiple times. Because of that, there are no foods I'm diametrically opposed to, no activities I'm averse to, no animals I'm afraid of, etc.

For example, my parents were always very open about nudity in daily life, and even regularly took me to a nude beach across the lake from our house growing up. Because of that, I have no body issues to speak of, and the human body and sex are guilt-free and beautiful to me. My parents always encouraged me to try alcohol and pot so that they wouldn't be something mysterious to me that I'd feel the need to sneak around and do because they were forbidden. Because of that, I've never had substance issues. I actually didn't even drink until the age of 22. My parents exposed me to all sorts of cultures and their foods and activities as well, so I'm not one of those people who is terrified/untrusting/derogatory of other cultures or unusual foods. I wasn't one of those kids who were allowed cop outs with foods I didn't care for, either. For instance, I never cared for asparagus growing up, so my Mom would try all sorts of different ways to cook it so I could give that veggie a fair shake and not say I disliked it after my initial encounter with it.

When I was a kid, I had a scary experience the first time my parents took me snow skiing, and had a strong averse reaction to the sport. So my parents took me back multiple times and made me ski so that I wouldn't have that as a fear. I was taken to camps that made me handle snakes and spiders. I was tossed in every sort of body of water as a kid so I wouldn't be afraid of swimming in rivers, lakes, or oceans. Growing up, I found all of this tiring and grating, but I'm so grateful as an adult. I'm blessedly well-adjusted overall, though I do have my quirks and faults, as all people do. And I'm fully aware of them, and am very honest with myself about that.

On a related note, something I've come to understand as an adult is that children of addicts are also very good at compartmentalizing negative stimulus, too. My Mother, Father, and Stepfather were all cocaine addicts and alcoholics. Because of that I'm very good at turning off emotion and fear and just use intellect to guide me when things get hairy. I guess the negative side effect of all that is I can pretty detached when it comes to dealing with people who bring negative stimulus to the table. Be they my friends, family, etc. My Mom has often accused me of being cold and heartless because I don't cry when I "should" and tackle what should be issues of the heart with surgical straightforwardness and little emotion.

How's all this crap for TMI?!

I do a lot of drinking, but since I've had a fake ID since I was 15, I've acquired relatively mature alcohol preferences. I really hate "college drinking" now-- you know, crappy beer, crappy shots chased with Sunkist. That's what the majority of people my age are doing and I'm just like, "uh, guys? Can we grab a bottle of vino and sit around and chat?" Or if I'm drinking hard alcohol, I prefer to be in bars where I can actually get quality drinks. Don't get me wrong-- I have my drunken moments (for example: this entire weekend). But instead of taking Captain Morgan shots in frat houses and the like, I'm usually taking expensive tequila shots with my favorite bartenders in San Francisco (usually between pitchers of sangria ).

Sangria!:

All of my friends drink, and yeah, it's one of my favorite pastimes. BUT, I don't get mean, I don't cry, I have a GOOD time.:woohoo:

I have a good time, too! It takes very little booze for me to get up and dance for 6/7 hours straight but when I'm up, I don't stop and everyone in the room knows how much I love them.

A lot of my friends have had fake ID that long but it's just something I personally don't condone. However, like Louie, my mum has exposed me to alcohol all my life so it's not a ~~~~bIg ThInG~~ like it is for a lot of my friends (and was especially when we were younger) and I've aquired quite mature tastes, too. Malibu and coke is my absolute favourite drink alcoholic or not, I just love coconut! I love Captain Morgan, too, but again that's because my auntie is a big rum drinker so the taste is familiar and soothing to me.

My rule of thumb? 1000 miles = 16 hours of driving. IF IF IF it's 1000 miles or less, I will just drive it. I'd rather give up 32 hours of my vacation, than have to deal with the stress of flying.
I hope to go back to Europe at some point, so flight is in my future(wonder how long it takes to take a boat?). My 1000 mile rule, is probably the reason I've never been west of Colorado, though.:o

Okay, call me a prude. Go ahead. But I find it a bit distressing to read about underage drinking, especially if it veers into the territory of binge drinking. And that's especially the case with young, talented, smart, beautiful girls who (potentially) have the world in the palm of their hands. I guess I've seen too many real-life examples of alcohol destroying people's lives or, their looks, or otherwise blunting ones potential in life. Chronic alcohol abuse never has a happy ending, even if one gets sober. Sure, it could be just a phase or just a temporary means of killing boredom. But what if it's more than that? Are the potential long-term health and/or emotional consequences worth the short-term gratification? Again, I'll totally admit that I'm sounding like a prude, but as someone who has passed the stage of life where drinking is a novelty, I can assure you that it's really not worth it.

I don't think you're a prude at all. I never quite understood the rush teenagers seem to have to do all of these things. It seems like the more situations they can put themselves in that might end badly, the better. I enjoy socially drinking now but it's really not something I started to do until I was of age and nothing I've ever done in a particular amount of excess. Do teenagers just think they're more grown up or cool because they're too young to drink but are doing it anyway?

Then again, I think that applies to a LOT of choices that young people make before they are of an age to fully understand them or their consequences. Watch a marathon of MTV's 16 and Pregnant and you'll know what I mean. There are WAY too many teenagers who are putting themselves in adult situations before they can handle it simply because it's available to them and they don't think far enough ahead to not do it.

And don't even get me started on smoking. If you're a teenager in this day and age and you start smoking, you're an idiot.

Even if I was scared enough to make them stop the plane and let me off, I could just never do that. I'd be too embarrassed. I can control, and overcome my phobia. I just force myself to do it.

Ya know, though, booze DOES help. I go to Nashville, all the time....and when the weather is nice, I walk from my hotel, to downtown, which involves me crossing a loooooong bridge, high above the Cumberland River. Okay, on the way to the bars, I absolutely HATE crossing the bridge....I'll count things, just to take my mind off of how f*cking high in the air I am. After I leave the bars, and walk back to my hotel, it hardly bothers me. It still does, a little, but it's about 15% as much, as when I hadn't had anything to drink.

Right. There are plenty of mature teenagers, there are plenty of immature teenagers and there are probably a good number of one who think they are the other. If someone is a college freshman and they're getting into a bar every Saturday night with a fake ID and drinking just to the point they can walk home without falling over, one could argue there's a maturity in that because they're not getting ****faced. But, the other side is that the person is three years under drinking age and breaking the law because they want to and they can get away with it. I've always had an issue with the sense of entitlement that people can have and teenagers who are bragging about drinking/having sex/smoking/doing whatever fall right into that category and that's probably why that kind of behavior bugs me as much as it does.

This is true. My other half will turn 40 this coming year, yet I drink way more moderately than he does. I work with a guy who's 54. He and his wife have been together for about 30 years. He says he spanks it about twice a week. I asked if his wife no longer wanted to have sex with him. He said she would, if he really tried to get her to, but it's just easier, and quicker, to take matter into his own hand.

When I was a hermit, I did it about six days a week, once a day.
Now that I'm a much more social person, with a sex life, like I said, I only do it, basically if I'm working late that night, so I wouldn't be able to answer a booty text. If I'm off that night, forget it! I want my batteries FULLY charged. I have a reputation to maintain!;)
So, to cut to the chase, about twice a week, now!

That's horrible, Homer. I can't understand why anyone would do something so uncalled for, popular as you are. Ah- maybe that was why.
People sure can let other people down, but then there's others who always seem to come through when you need them, and make up for some of the crap.

Hej, you ask these wild questions, well not all that wild- and I notice you never have provided your own answers for your questions that tons of people respond to. Genius!

I have a new Q- for the guys only. Adult males older than the age of 18, of course. Way older!
Women, don't feel left out- I don't think any of you would be able to answer this. But then, who knows!

Have you ever tried Viagra? Did it work? Was it what you expected, better, or worse?

My A:
I have never tried it. Want to.
I have doubts that Viagra would be "interactive" with 3 meds I take daily, so don't want to ask for it. Of course, V wouldn't be every day, though.
And yes, I could use it, it's not just curiosity.

^One of my past roommates used Viagra, and swore by it. He said it even did great things for those without erectile problems: mainly, it'll give you fuller erections, and increased sexual stamina. He actually gave me a pill because he thought everyone should experience how wonderful the drug was, but I never tried it and eventually lost it. Do some internet research, I bet you'll be able to find out if it will react negatively with whatever medications you may be on. I know my roommate was on at least one anti-depressant and I believe either cholesterol or blood thinning meds and still took Viagra. Everyone I've ever known says the drug really is as amazing as it's claimed to be. I'd look into it if I were you.

L- Thanks - I'm laughing. I don't need it all that much really, and wonder if anyone ever got addicted to Viagra. I was thinking of punny punchlines for a Viagra Rehab Clinic and for cross-reactions from taking it with various meds(''if you have anxiety relief that lasts for more than four hours, contact your doctor and say 'Thanks! I won't be needing you anymore''.)
Your blood thinner comment made me think of someone 85 years old- Was your roomie an escapee from assisted living? I'm sure he wasn't. That lead me next to a cruise ship ad for the elderly with a "complimentary incontinental breakfast".
This year, I handed a girl at the pharmacy a note that she laughed at, along with a prescription.
I wrote: "Improve the quality of your decline"
-which I had mindlessly written during my session with my doctor just before the pharmacy stop.
I think it could be a slogan we'll see on tv one day.

"Oh, there's my Valium!" said the myopic little old lady, who suddenly had Marge Simpson hair, upon finding L's lost Viagra tablet.

Okay, back on topic! I seem to have started to become lactose intolerant. And I can't be having this. Dairy products are the icing on the cake of life to me! But my God, the gas cramps and flatulence are freaking violent! It's so strange, because I've always lived for dairy products: cheeses, sour cream, whipped cream, alfredo/cream based sauces, et al. A meal without them always seemed unfilling. Sometime in the last year or so though, my body started protesting. And I'm writing a strongly worded letter about it!

You know what else sucks about "growing up?" Finding randomly placed crazily thick & dark hairs. I keep plucking these dammed things out of my eyebrows especially... I can't be turning into no Andy Rooney!!

Homer, viv's a good guy and I feel sure he didn't really mean to hurt you, he was trying to cheer up a child who had cried over something on The Ledge, and his pic was on The Ledge for less than five minutes. I never saw it, and I was here practically 24/7 last week!

Truer words were never spoken. In the grand scheme of things, minor disagreements on a fan forum are of little importance, and should be treated as such. I won't say kiss and make up, because you may wish to kiss with a fist. But for the season of good will, please just play nice. You're both great guys and you're better than squabbling.

"Your many friends???" Are you talking about all the ones that didn't name you in Ledgie appreciation, all those friends?

See, here we go. Most of my Ledge friends, no longer come here. The Ledge became a bit too much like Seven Wonders for them, and they left(or rarely visit). So, we're all friends on Facebook, where we're free to weed out the trolls of the internets. So I wasn't necessarily talking about "Ledge only" friends, but those in REAL life. The real life I have, when I'm not here.

Not that you care, but on Facebook last week, one of my friends posted "post a number on my wall, and I'll tell you what I think about you". It sounds like bragging, for me to tell you what he said, but I will anyway. He said, "David, you always see the best, in everyone. You're always uplifting, and you're the one, who really gives me hope, in mankind".

Would you please just put me on ignore? Please? Pretty please?

Angst rant- Of friendship, drunken marriage proposals, airline tickets, family fallout and a man in his own house:
Tis the season
-for my family, who will never see this.

Having stress about a good (female) friend since the 1980s visiting me for a few days. I bought her airline tickets to visit, and the day is very close. I thought maybe she'd cancel. She's visited 3 times since I moved back to the East coast in the '90s. I saw her last year.
I probably am going to have to suck it up, and go through with the plans, it's too close to her arriving to say 'don't come'. I do want to see her, and I don't, but I have to focus on the 'want to' and just have a good time, which we will, I think.
My family doesn't like it and has been badgering me about it. Something about me being 'naive' (at 46?) and it being "inappropriate for an unmarried woman to come live with me for a week"- four nights and leaving early on the fifth morning is a week, now? In a four bedroom house, in which she will have her own bedroom for the visit, which I had told them would be the sleeping arrangements?
Oh, and if she were a married woman, that would make it ok? Now it makes sense. No.
We've been friends since the 1980s. I'm so surprised, and hurt, at how much sh*t I've been taking about it.
It's all because just twice, in a one month time period this fall, she'd had her fill of wine during long phone calls, and asked me to marry her. The first time, I told her if she felt the same way in a year, we'd talk about it then, because I didn't want to be unkind, I do like her a lot and understood. Her sisters both married for the first time in their 40s, and she is 50 now. She knows what the deal would be, and that we'd be living separately. I can't leave CT and don't want to, which may be more accurate. She owns her own home and has a career she likes. She still thinks it's a good idea.
She just meant for mutual support. Plus, she really wants to be married, not to me in particular, just be married, I think.
I shared the info with my mom and my sister- I was flattered, and a bit amazed. It's not like I'm exactly getting marriage proposals now with the jaw-dropping frequency that I once did (har) and she is fun and successful.
I am fully aware that I won't marry her. My sister believed me, initially.
I had exactly one marriage and one divorce, at age 18 and 20. No kids.
It's like they think it would happen, "oh, there he goes again, getting married, every 28 years like clockwork." It's so wrong to still be friends with someone who when a bit loaded, confessed, touchingly, she wants to be married because she never has been, and we've been close all these years, and she chose me when the idea was on her mind?
So what? Who doesn't get lonely, sometimes? Should I disregard 21, 23 years of her being a wonderful friend, which is how she knows I think of her?
"No, of course not- but you don't buy her an airline ticket or tell her you'll entertain the idea in a year"-- my sister.
She has a point. I just figured that my friend would either be over the marriage craze by then, or find someone local and un loco!
Maybe I just want to see someone who isn't 100 years old, gross, and in need of my services, and have something of a life for four days, maybe have a good time? I don't mean sexually, at all. That hasn't ever happened with us, and it won't. We're comfortable with that. I mean, two old friends, comfortable, kicking back.
The whole big stank over it ruined my Christmas. Well, the 20 grand eased the pain, some.
Yay, I can pay my bills. And change beds and beg, in kind tones, of my handicapped father to please not be content to leave his pants not pulled up to hear my mother say I'm "picking on him".
"I don't say it to be mean. It's uncivilized. I say it because I don't want you to settle or accept to have to live with a slob. For him to sit there smiling and scratching watching tv, like it's normal to have half his ass sticking out of a Depends with sweatpants pulled just to his thigh and his gut exposed"- He can pull the pants up, and shirt down, it just takes effort. Make the effort. That's mean?
Don't pour a bottle of urine down the kitchen sink? That's mean? When I do their cooking?! Roll on the damned scooter down to the bathroom. I know he can't walk or stand. He still could shave. He still could brush his teeth. Good God.
He says "I'm in my own house, Kolya" (my nickname)-
-yes, that you are, in your own house, husband of my mother, somehow my father. But I'm here, I don't want to see your ass.
I'm why you're able to still live in your own house.
If you have to lay on the bed to be able to pick the pants up all the way- well, old man, go lay on the fcking bed to do it, I think, but don't say. My sister- who will visit 3 times a year- asked to have you shave. And change your socks. That is mean? He takes his handicapped status as an excuse to do nothing.
Oh, but how he has mastered the telephone.
Do call me when it's time for meals, and I can't imagine what I am smelling between the stove and the counter, til I realize, well of course, a perfectly cooth man pours his piss down the kitchen sink just before I come over to cook dinner. Of course.
So, I have a dear friend coming for 4 days and have been given nothing but hell about it. F them all. I am not canceling on her. I have a great house I rent, that is clean, and won't bring her over to The House of Scents, a few doors away down the street. I clean it and clean it and clean and clean and still it stinks.
That's what I get for sharing something personal with them, you know, something happy, even, about me. Someone likes me. Oh no.
Though I don't want to be married, would it be so horrible, for any of my family, if I ever decided to? I feel like it's 'keep anyone away from him who wants to get too close'- it has always been like that. I refer to childhood friends always being kept at a distance, a generally oppressive air that lead me to run 3000 miles across the country away from them as soon as I could, to marry at 18 and have no-one in my family present or know beforehand, and then divorce quickly, though at the time, it felt like an eternity, there was a year long wait. Centuries ago.
I just want to say to the lot of them: "I think you're crazy, and I ought to know!"

Am I the only girl who reads whatever is to hand while on the toilet? Only when I poop, that is. I'd have to be a carthorse to read while I pee'd.

I think it was J.K Rowling who said she keeps a magazine rack by the toilet because she gets bored reading shampoo bottles when she's at someone elses house. I will be doing this when I have my own place.

Not really while pooping, but am I the only one, who has a phone charger in the bathroom? I get virtually no daytime texts, but when I'm getting ready to go out at night, my phone is blowing up, so I find it easiest, to fully charge, while I'm getting ready to go out.....if I had to keep running back and forth, to read texts, I might have to kill someone!

Is this shameful? Maybe it's because I have a small child, but I find it totally acceptable to be on my laptop while in the quiet peacefulness of the bathroom. Whether or not I am taking a giant dump is irrelevant!

Though I don't have a small child, I share a 1 bedroom apartment with my boyfriend and our small dog. The bathroom is the only privacy I get, too. Stevie really was on to something when she's said her bathroom is her place of recharge and respite (I still can't imagine myself writing SONGS in my bathroom, but God bless Stevie... I'd have her no other way!)

We had this discussion after Christmas dinner, yesterday, of whether or not it's acceptable to use your laptop while pooping. My cousin does it, and said "I always wash my hands, so it's okay". I said, "what about your keyboard....do you wash THAT? Remind me not to borrow your laptop!"

Do any of you use the phone whilst conducting your bathroom business? My friend has both texted and called me whilst performing both routines. Texting, I didn't mind so much. But phoning....Yeah. I'd rather she save what she has to tell me for later on lol.

I have, usually when I'm on the phone with my sister. She talks and talks and talks and doesn't care what I'm doing on the other end as long as I'm listening to her!

I hadn't really thought of that. I'm pretty much the only one who uses my laptop, though. But I'll be sure to remind my step-son of the hygienic issues next time he wants to borrow it!

Not while on the toilets, no, but in the spirit of TMI... I had an ex who would think it was very funny to, if it rang while we were having "alone time"... she'd answer my phone! At one point when she couldn't talk on the phone (shewas busy!) but I could (but shouldn't!) and she passed it up to me...

Saga du jour:
Well, she just called me drunk off her ass, again. She is to arrive on Thursday, and listed the various alcoholic beverages she thinks will be enjoyable, I'll have them stocked. I don't enjoy drinking, and I really prefer her sober, our talks when she's at the office are much more satisfying, for me. Drunk all the time now, at home, when she calls. That won't be fun, here. Maybe I will not have the house stocked, at all!
"Which bedroom will be best for you to serve me breakfast in bed in?"
-"I don't think any of them"
"You're so funny!"
Blizzard here in CT for 10 hours so far, and into tomorrow. Will be clear by Thursday.
Dang.
"I'm afraid to ask you" read the title of her e-mail 5 days ago. Clicked, to read: "Did I call you last night?"
She had.

And I'm writing a strongly worded letter about it!:

wow this sounds just like me right now!! it sucks soo bad!! have you ever tried those pills that you can take before you eat dairy? i was wondering if they work.

How about the most taboo TMI subject of all times... something that everybody wants to know but would never dare ask. But since I'm as shameless as they come, I'll pose the questions:

How much money do y'all make?

How much do you have in savings? Checking?

How much do you owe?

Convert to USD please. :p

I make $10.80 an hour. However, I only work "occasionally". Which means, I work atleast one weekend a month and holidays when I am out of school (Thanksgiving, Xmas break, Spring Break, Summer) because I live and go to school in Austin, but my job is in Midland. So overall, I bring home a whopping $10,000 a year or so.

Savings: $136
Checking: $202

I owe TONS! Including my car and student loans, over $30,000. :(

I make $20 an hour as a tutor. I work 6-8 hours a week. I suck and have barely saved any of it, which needs to change ASAP because of the Stevie shows this summer....fail. I'm planning on saving everything over the next 2 quarters.

For whatever reason, money is the sole thing I'm weird about sharing. I guess because I'm really not that material of a person? Some people define themselves by their careers and how much money they pull in... I've always defined myself by what I do outside of work.

My last job was working at the Federal Reserve doing research accounting, and my salary was roughly equivalent of a teacher's or police officer's. Benefits were where I really made up for the lack of decent salary: all health/dental/life/optical/etc insurances were free, I had a month paid vacation a year (my paid sick/disability time was even more generous), etc. Unfortunately due to realignment, my department at the Fed closed last year and all 100 employees in our branch were laid off. I haven't been able to find work since... this economy is pretty unforgiving.

I'm weird about the money too. Because I don't really care about money, and hide, even from my friends, how much I make, and what I own.

Okay, I've got 8 rental units(4 duplexes), own a small sound company(even though freelancing as an engineer, is what keeps me the busiest), and play about 3 gigs a month, in a band. ANYWAY, the rental income makes it seem like I'm rich, but I'm not. All of my properties are on 10 year mortgages, with only 36 months left to pay. Soooo, I gross 88K-ish(48K in rents, 40K in music), BUT I'm paying 54K in mortgage payments! In three years, though, things will turn around for me, when I pay off the mortgages. I'll have about 3K/month in rental profits, then, to keep. But I've had hard times, like everyone else. I just owe soooo much a month(bills are usually around 6K), that it's turned me into a cheap bastard! My poor friends live higher on the hog than I....they drink top shelf hootch, while I drink draught beer! Things will change, though in 36 months. I will have won the game.
Checking - about $250
Savings - about 12K(which I never touch for anything, except when I can't make the mortgage payments).

I work for an engineering firm, in the finance group. I make $24.87 per hour - and this is without a college degree. I work full time, 2080 hours per year, 40 per week. I get 23 paid days off per year, which can be used for holidays, sick time, etc....

I do not own a home - I rent. I have two roommates, one is my partner and the other is a friend that we've taken in. We collectively pay $1500 per month for the house, which is a 1890 Queen Anne victorian in Denver.

I have no savings.

I have a checking account - it's where my money sits before I spend it. And I do spend it. All of it.

I have about $1900 in debt, which I will pay off in the next few months.

I live very well, and totally above my means, I buy what I want, I eat and drink well and I wear nice clothes. I have a shoe habit.

I'm 37 years old, and I know that my lifestyle is not sustainable at the curent rate - but I fear facing reality and I don't know what to do about it. I feel incapable of saving money, because there are just too many cool things to buy, and frankly I never learned the importance of saving. I think money is relatively meaningless, aside from the value that others assign to it. Money is more valuble than the things that money buys, and that's a problem that human beings need to work out. I'm probably part of the problem.

Well, I don't think being interested in money necessarily equals being materialistic. And I think it would be intellectually dishonest for anyone living in the western world, on the grid, to claim to be totally unaffected by the behavior of money; whether we want to admit it or not, it affects every aspect of our lives. That old saying about the two definites in life- death and taxes- is not for nothing. And in many cases it is about life and death, especially in the States where access to critical medical care sometimes depends on ones ability to pay out of pocket.

For me, ones relationship with money is almost as fascinating as ones relationships with people (and I stress interesting vs. important). It tells a lot about a persons values (both literally and figuratively!) as well as their attitudes about life in general. Some people have very healthy relationships with money; for others it can be downright destructive, e.g., compulsive gambling, compulsive shopping, compulsive hoarding, etc. Too much (old) money can make children unmotivated and entitled, while too little money can make people do irrational things to save a buck (like driving 20 miles to save a nickel/gallon on gas).

By U.S. standards, I am very well off, but by NYC standards I am kind of in the lower-middle somewhere. My parents taught me to be frugal, but I have managed to beat them at their own game. In fact, they are sometimes appalled by my standard of living. Until recently I had a 20-year-old TV, a 13-year-old $17 coffeemaker from WalMart, a 16-year-old microwave oven, a 7-year-old computer, etc. I guess that says a lot about me! For one thing, I am practical to a fault. If something is working, no matter how old, I will keep using it and using it. I am also usually a late adopter of new technology and I will search high and low for a good deal; it is like a game of strategy for me. I will expend a lot of effort to save a few bucks on (designer) clothing and food, but I will not hesitate for a second about spending money on travel, entertainment and health. Also, I would rather spend money on a few expensive, well-made things than a bunch of inexpensive "value" things.

Ultimately money buys me something that money can't buy (??)- peace of mind. I know that if I am ever unemployed (again), I can float for a long, long time (at least a year) before I start worrying about things. And even then I have a fallback option or two. As such, I cannot even imagine carrying credit card debt or having negative balances. I don't like the thought of having to scrounge up money to buy stuff. For me it's more a matter of working through the equation of wants vs. needs... generally I am not a "want-y" kind of person.

Overall I am house-poor, ever since I made the dubious decision to design and build my "weekend house," which after five years is an ongoing money pit (like, almost $1 million so far and counting). Fortunately my mortgage is not that large. But it is definitely something that hangs around my neck like an albatross- it's not enough to keep me awake at night, but it is just enough to be a nuisance. I hope to have it paid off completely within the next ten years, that is, assuming Fleetwood Mac doesn't go on too many more world tours!

I don't technically make any money. I'm comfortably living off of my student loan while I make my way through college. At the moment, my loans and grants amount to the princely sum of £9000, or $13, 946 a year.

In savings, considering I blew alot on Christmas for other people, I have just about £1000 I can look forward to in the bank, ie. $1549 and 60 Cence.

As of this moment in time, I owe almost around £20, 000, or $30, 994.

Yep. I'm pretty screwed at this moment in time. But money isn't everything to me, so I don't let myself worry about it. I don't have to start repaying the Government until I'm earning at least £15,000 or $23, 245 so that's a comfort.

When I think of the future, I just can't see myself in an ordinary, day in day out job. I don't want to be slogging in a job I hate for ten years after I die. I'd rather be doing something I love and experiencing life. Which is why when I finish University I would love to just go travelling. Not a month, not even for a year. Just however long I can maintain it. I've always been flighty and the freedom is romantically appealling to me to see the world, selling my art to get by.

For me, I grew up upper middle class, until age 9, when my father left us. We went from riches to rags, in one fell swoop. My Mom was a hard worker, but had no education, so she was pretty much relegated to minimum wage jobs. And I was embarrassed by our poverty(this is leading somewhere). I started working at age 13, and have worked ever since. I put myself through college, and started by "sound" business, when I graduated(actually, timing was everything, I really went into it, at the perfect window of opportunity). I worked my ass off, for 10 years, bought the rental properties, then finally, my house. I made my way back, to the lifestyle I had as a child.
Sooo, all that said, I have had rough spells financially, like when my dog had cancer. And the rough spells have retrained me, to be a saver. Cushion, is everything. As long as my rentals are occupied, I too, could float for at least a year. And that cushion does indeed, buy peace of mind.
But like you also, even though I consider myself to be cheap, I dropped 2K today, on a cosmetic procedure.

My attitude towards money, careers, and success stems directly from my upbringing. My Father was a corporate climber who made it to the top, made quite a princely salary, but never had any time to enjoy the fruits of his labors. We're talking the man was in his office by 7am and didn't get home until 7pm... where he promptly had dinner, then went into his study to work until he went to bed at 11 or 12. He worked in his study and sometimes at his office throughout the weekends, too. My Dad lost decades of his life to that, and I've just never been interested in focusing my life on career climbing, trying to see how much money I can make, or how many baubles I can collect.

Of course we all have to have money to sustain ourselves, and we all have things we like to spend money on. But for me personally, I've always been much happier keeping my existence simpler that the average American consumer. I see so many people being slaves to fashion and labels, always partaking in the current "in" products and services, collecting massive amounts of crap which demands ever larger homes through their lives to store all that junk in, and I'm just like... no thanks. I'd rather work a less stressful and involving job, live in a humbler home, and keep my possessions pared so they're not an albatross around my neck.

For instance, one of my friends recently built himself a McMansion on 10 acres. He was my travel/daytrip/adventure buddy before that happened. Now he spends every freaking weekend cutting his 10 acres of grass, shopping to fill 4,000 square feet of house to the roof with crap he doesn't need and will never use, fixing shoddy work his builder bungled, etc. Not just that, he has to pay around $1,200 a month in utilities, too. He also has a giant BMW SUV for hauling all the crap he buys to his house, thus his car gets horrific gas mileage, and he no longer ventures very far from home. Meanwhile, I live in a 700 square foot apartment and could get in my economy car and drive to Montana right now and not have any repercussions or worries. I've never taken a job that demands anything from me after I left the building. I've always lived in apartments and/or condos so maintenance isn't something which dominates my time. To me, life is best enjoyed when you're away from work and demands so you can spend time with friends and family seeing and experiencing the world. That's just my personal way of doing things, and to each their own. Variety keeps life kooky and fun! :D

Well, you automatically draw the conclusion that in order to have financial success, one must be a complete slave to ones work. Yes, it is often the case, but not always. And "success" is a relative barometer- some people think making a six-figure income is success. Some people making six figures think they are failures unless they make seven figures. I do think there is a happy medium between being relatively successful at work and being relatively successful outside of work. At the extreme other end of the scale, it would completely suck if you were working long hours and had very little to show for it.

Do I have a happy medium? Sorta kinda... I wish the day had more hours. But overall I'm okay with it. My work is mentally exhausting at times, so I do tend to overcompensate by being lazy at home. I would like to think that I will eventually get to the point in my life where work becomes more of a routine and I have more mental bandwidth to spare on extracurricular pursuits. I don't have an exciting life by any stretch, but I can sleep at night thankful for my independence and my health.

I used to have a townhouse condo just outside of Atlantic City. I originally bought it as a favor for a friend whose mother was having marriage problems... long story... But once she moved out, it was an ongoing series of drama. Repairs. Turnover. Fines from the condo board for broken rules. Late/non-existent rent payments, etc. Ugh. That sh*t's for the birds. And being 115 miles away didn't help matters either. Fortunately I sold it at the peak of the housing bubble! It was a pretty good investment that gave back 100%+ returns after less than six years, but I did something incredibly stupid to buy the place- I took out massive cash advances on my credit cards for the down payment and closing costs! Never will I do that again!

Okay, spill the beans... You're getting a nose job, right?

I've had good luck with my rentals. I only had one unit vacate, this year(which was a low record), and I've not had to evict anyone, for about 4-5 years now.
I can't imagine being able to take care of them, if I didn't live nearby. I USED to live in one of them(they're all next door to each other), and my tenants drove me CRAZY. Not with complaints, just bothering me. I'm a nice guy, and I couldn't walk out my door, without "Hey David, come here" So I moved 8 miles away, where they can't bother me!

No, no nose job. I like my funny little, turned up nose. I'll just say it involves laser dermatology.

Multiple procedures costing a couple grand spread over half a year or more? Sounds like laser treatments to me! Possibly laser hair removal :D.

A friend of mine had that done on his sack and taint... for the life of me, I can't imagine how the pain was worth it!

This is my worst nightmare. I still own a very cursed condo back in Charlotte which I'm currently renting out. We bought the stupid place at the height of the bubble because it was next to a massive mixed-use redevelopment (housing projects which were being torn down in a rapidly gentrifying area to be replaced by Whole Foods, condo towers, etc), and we thought we'd double our money in 5 years. Naturally when the economy went south, the redevelopment stalled, the developer went bankrupt, and now we have blight adjacent to our complex. On top of that, the complex we bought in was older and the units were being gutted and rebuilt from the inside out. So when the economy tumbled, multiple buildings were left completely gutted and open... more blight. We couldn't sell our condo now even if we took a substantial hit. Thankfully, so far, the tenant we have has caused us no problems. But with that condo's track record (floods, fires, thefts, insurance boondoggles, etc), I expect it any day now.

Back to money vs being a slave to it; my other half and I have quite an interesting potpourri of friends. We have best friends who make $15,000 a year, and we have good friends who make $15M a year... and everything in between. We seem to especially have a lot of attorney friends (everything from corporate lawyers to prosecutors). The one thing I can say about all of our friends who make six figures or more is that they work their @sses off. They truly earn every penny they make. But just like me, so many of them lost their jobs and their most of their portfolios in the recession. It just kinda says to me that no matter how hard you work, that you're just as susceptible to downfall as anyone else. And honestly, our friends who make more money just seem to have bigger bills: expensive home and vacation home mortgages, pricey car payments, spending for lavish vacations, food, furnishings, and clothing, etc. In my eyes, life is pretty complex and hectic (but beautiful and fun!), and I just prefer to keep things simple. :wavey:

I actually think it would be kind of refreshing to hear a doctor be real with a patient- instead of using all that high-falutin' medical mumbo-jumbo. Yes, we know you went to school to learn all them pricey words- you've got one 'em doctorin' degrees, don't ye? You're not treating a medical cadaver, so why not use terms that people can relate to?

I don't know. I think it would freak me out to be treated by somebody who doesn't have the whole "package". There's something about the big words and the "posh" accent that is comforting. You go in for a procedure and they say "Don't worry sir/madam. We'll look after to you to our utmost ability" and you can't help but breathe a sigh of relief and think "Phew. The posh Tw.at will". It's less comforting when you hear a complete Chav (English rednecks :p) attempt to explain a procedure to you. Something about that would set me on edge.

As long as you're cash flow positive on the place, it's probably a good idea to keep it. I assume you're also devaluing the property for tax purposes? That is certainly a handy upside to owning rental property...

I am not trying to brag (believe me, I'm not...), but I think I make more than most of the people I've known. And as far as I know, I work the least hard! I suppose about ten years ago I was more of a Type-A go-getter. But age has really mellowed my ambition in that regard. I keep hoping I will once again magically get struck with the inspiration to climb higher, but I'm beginning to think there will be no second coming for me. The eye of the tiger has cataracts. I guess this is another one of those things where a happy medium suits me best. I've chosen everyone from my primary care physician to the crazy girl who cuts my hair for multiple reasons. I demand someone who is extremely intelligent and knows what the hell they're doing, but who doesn't take themselves too seriously either, and has a self-depreciating and disarming sense of humor.

For instance, my Dr is an extremely accomplished BRIGHT woman, but can make me laugh my @ss off while I'm sick with bronchitis by saying inappropriate things. Same with the woman who has cut my hair for a decade... she works in a high end salon and is simply the best at her price point, but she and I disruptively cackle and shriek the entire time she's cutting my hair.

Speaking of, it's so funny... people just seem to recognize instantly when they meet me that I'm fun and they don't have to censor themselves. I must just emanate it or something, because everyone from my doctor to servers have instantly been disarmed around me. I'll never forget going out to brunch one time, and the server just looked at my friends and I and said: "I can tell there's no offending y'all. So I have a question to ask you. Do you know the difference between jelly and jam?" My friends and I just kinda shrugged, and the server responded: "Umm, duhh... you can't jelly your c*ck up my @ss!" We all completely rolled on the floor laughing. I just adore unexpected inappropriateness, especially from random unknown people at breakfast! Some people would be appalled by gossiping doctors and risque servers, to me, it's the whipped cream of life!

He worked in his study and sometimes at his office throughout the weekends, too. My Dad lost decades of his life to that, and I've just never been interested in focusing my life on career climbing, trying to see how much money I can make, or how many baubles I can collect.

Louie, I know it's none of my business, so ignore if you want to: I suspect you might be talking about a stepfather? Many people consider their steps their actual fathers, especially if they were parented by them from a young age.
I ask this, because you once wrote your dad was murdered when you were about 8 years old and that he was a cocaine addict killed over a drug deal. I can only imagine how such a thing would impact a small child, and I am so sorry for your pain and congratulate you for being the fun-loving, happy man that you seem to be.
The man you described above sounds like a focused, career-driven man who provided brilliantly for his family, and he doesn't seem the type, at all, to lose it all to cocaine. Yet, it happens.
I'm hoping for you that the workaholic you described above was the main father figure for your childhood, and not the other man.

Yes, that was my Stepfather who I was talking about :). My coke-addled biological Father was totally out of the picture after the age of 4, so I consider my Stepfather to be my Father... he's raised me since I was 3. And my Stepfather is a very, very good man. He provided for our family extremely well, and is a very kind man who raised me as his own. He definitely regrets now being such a workaholic, and simply stopped being that way several years back when he realized the means weren't worth the ends.

I've noticed as I'm getting older that my legs are losing their hair! Especially the calves. I used to have pretty hair legs, and somehow it fell out, and I never shaved it. A few years back I was hiking with a friend in Utah, and he was behind me and asked me when I started shaving my legs. I was surprised he asked that, but he hadn't seen me in a few years and probably remembered my legs from when we were college roommates. I'm not terribly overweight, but I do carry an extra 20-30 lbs from time to time, so I wonder if maybe I my legs have bad circulation and the little capillaries that feed the hair follicles dried up.
My legs were never hairy. But I've had chest hair since I was about 16. I hate it. But yeah, I've been asked several times, if I shave my legs. Nope. I just noticed this evening(probably because we've been discussing it), that my leg skin is REALLY dry, this winter.

But I'd be happy with hair on my head, pits, and pubes, and that's it. god I'd love to never have to shave, ever again.

My pubic hair grows crazy long. If I let it go, I can have strands almost three inches long, with no curl. So it looks like a Wookie. I clip it short with the buzzer.
Same thing with armpit hair, it's pin-straight and very long if I let it keep going. But my chest hair is sparse, and I can't grow a full beard. I have my mother's Norwegian genes for hair, I'm sure. Because my father (Sicilian ancestry) has thick, curly, wirey hair.

Where does penis length come from? From our father's genes only? I mean, our mother's had fathers too. Can I assume what I'm packing is the same as my father?

My pubes rarely grow long...every once in awhile, I'll notice ONE hair, that has gotten longer than the rest. But, I tend to trim them, every six weeks or so, so that doesn't really happen anymore.
My pits are like my legs. There's only a small amount. It's not long, or coarse.
Penis length? I have no idea! It's never even occurred to me, to think about where it came from! I'm adopted, so I can't really figure that out, anyway. Like every guy, I'd take more, if I could magically get it, but I'm happy with what I've got. I'd say, slightly above average. I've never had any complaints!

Anecdotally, I have to admit that I noticed at a very young age that I did not inherit my father's junk gene. I also have to admit that I was rather traumatized the first (and only) time I saw it. It was tiny and it was surrounded by all this gnarly, nasty black hair; it was like a little finch egg in a big nest. A little nubbin. You know, I envy people like you and your mom who are free enough to talk about just about anything. Me, I couldn't stand to talk about anything having to do with sex with either parent. In fact, I think if I were in a checkout stand, and heard you and your mother talking that way, I'd probably grab for a Xanax before I ran out the door to go faint in the privacy of my own car!
Which is to say, of course, YOU are the mentally healthy one in this equasion!
-that is, you and your trash-talkin' mama :)
I swear a joke, I don't diss no-one's mama. Plus a 'trash talkin' mama sounds better than a 'mama with a board up her butt' like I have, sometimes! Though I love her dearly.

^A footnote to my note to Louie:
My LA days friend, of 'how dare you not know how inappropriate it is for an unmarried woman to come live with you for a week?'- (my mother, who else)-
- I pick her up at the airport tomorrow! I just couldn't cancel on her. I like her a lot, drinking habit and all, plus she's a contact I can't afford to lose. I may one day decide it's time to put all these "typing" skills to use, again.
I told my mother she had cancelled. Now, when she finds out, I'll have to lie again, and say 'she would have lost the money if she didn't use the tickets'- which may make the pragmatist that she is shut the ef up.
Mom would be so pithedoff if she knew I bought the tickets, myself!
I lie hardly ever, and don't like to. But ef it, I couldn't take the daily badgering after I told her in early December, and had to have peace.
It's four days she'll be here for a visit, not a week.
I'm hoping to keep it under wraps til New Years Day, when I'll introduce them, bringing my mother over here.
I'm nervous!
I bet your mama would be fine with it all.
Jealous :)

Yeah, my parents have their flaws (they were pretty outta control until I was about 10), but thankfully they're extremely open minded people. No conversations were ever off topic, and nothing was ever condemned by them per se. I think their openness and exposing me to absolutely everything is probably why I turned out fairly (well, mostly) sane

A little acorn.  I remember thinking to myself as a little kid that I was already bigger.

Haha. This reminds me of one of the only memories I have of my biological father, who passed away when I was 7. He wasn't around much, so I have few memories of him to begin with, but out of the few I have, this one is definitely the most vivid:

I was about 5 or 6, and he had just gotten a vasectomy. I got out of bed to go to the bathroom that night, and blearily opened the door to behold my father with his pants around his ankles, blood all over his thighs and aforementioned pants, and my mother on her knees in front of him with a towel, trying to clean him up and yelling at him. They both froze and looked at me and I remember just standing there, gawping for a few beats before I slowly backed out and closed the door again.

At the time, I was only vaguely aware of what he'd had done, and looking back, I think he must've popped some stitches or something? Whatever it was, that's not really something ANYONE should be confronted with for the terrible offense of opening a bathroom door, let alone a little kid who hadn't ever seen a naked guy before. It was gory.

It's a long(no pun intended) strange, adoption story here, that I posted a few years back. But my birth Dad, was actually a family friend, that I grew up knowing, after my parents divorced. I didn't know he was my birth father though, until many years later. He used to take me hunting and fishing. But fortunately, never showed me his junk! I'm pretty close to my birth mother, though, I guess I could ask her!:lol::lol: Good lord, she'd sh*t, if I asked her, if she remembered how big his penis was!

My grandmother went through a similar ordeal. She was adopted by her aunt and grew up thinking that she was her mom, but really the woman she'd grown up to know as her aunt was her biological mother (and, not to mention, BAT**** CRAZY).

My grandmother went through a similar ordeal. She was adopted by her aunt and grew up thinking that she was her mom, but really the woman she'd grown up to know as her aunt was her biological mother (and, not to mention, BAT**** CRAZY).

I always KNEW I was adopted, at birth. BUT, I was told that my parents knew nothing, of my birth parents. LIE. And I wasn't told the truth, until I was in my early 20's(when I revealed that I'd tried to find out the truth, on my own) that my birth mother had worked with my Mom(who's ovaries never developed properly, and couldn't have kids). "Nancy" already had two kids, and was divorced, and struggling to pay for the two kids she already had. Nancy got knocked up with me, and Mom talked her into letting them adopt me.

So, what really make the story Oprah-worthy, is that when my parents divorced, when I was nine, is that Mom's childhood friend, and distant cousin, started taking my hunting and fishing, for a couple of years. He then, sort of drifted away from us.

The REASON? Mom wouldn't let him tell me, that he was my real father.

By the time I knew the truth, he was terminally ill with cancer. I went and saw him, a couple of times, and he cried like a baby, telling me that he thought I always knew that he was my father. I told him that I'd JUST discovered the truth.

So, he was an artist, and multimillionaire entrepreneur. I didn't really pursue much of a relationship, beyond the two visits, because everyone said "he's just going to think you're after his money, since he's sick". And not that I would have done that, for the money(although I was poor as could be, at that point in my life), but I now wish I'd tried to forge more of a relationship.

So, did I get anything? Nada. Not even a fu*king painting(which is really all I wanted). My Mom and I attended his funeral, where it was announced, that "he never had any children"(while I'm sitting there,.... talk about biting your fu*king tongue!!). He left everything to his nephew.
Bitter? Yeah, a tad. I mean, even though I was adopted, he did sire me, and knew that Mom and I were struggling. He could have helped me with college money, or something.

Oh well, it's all good, now. Sh*t happens.....

Damn. What an ordeal. I don't think I would have been able to hold it in.

It was very difficult. And looking back now, I don't know if I should have said something, or not.

I guess I feel kind of bitter about it. I feel cheated, about not being acknowledged. And I think the fact that he was rich, and left me nothing(again, NO other kids, only me), pisses me off. It's not about the money, it's about acknowledging my existence, as his only child. And it hurts even more, because it's like the couple of years that he took me hunting and fishing, meant nothing.

Today I went to watch the Sunday rugby at the local rugby club. Lots of people bring their dogs for a walk in the field where it's played, and afterwards everyone has a drink in the clubhouse bar. Two of the dogs came in with their owners after the game, one average-sized mutt and one tiny chihuahua called Harvey, who apparently has the mentality of a much larger animal..
Harvey spent the whole 3 hours we were there persistently trying to mount the other dog, despite the fact that his head barely reached the other's arse. We unwittingly watched gay dog courting for 3 hours.
What a way to spend Sunday afternoon..

Male Dogs mounting other Male Dogs isn't necassarily a sign of Homosexuality. Male Dogs have been known to mount their own gender in order to show off their prowess and virility, especially when a female Dog is present. Is the Dog equivelant of a Crotch grab in another Male's face lol.

Update on the uncircumcised penis predicament:

I kinda set that as a New Year's resolution, to be quite honest. I needed to know the mystery of uncut men, damnit! Well, lo and behold, at 3AM on New Years Day (3 hours into the new year), I MET ONE (yes, I "met" it)! And it wasn't scary, and I feel a thousand times better.... we did not get particularly well acquainted because I really didn't like this guy but the second I saw he was uncut my curiosity got the best of me. I immediately texted Louie the next morning, explaining the results of my research.

So, good lord, we made out for about 3 hours, then I went home. 3 HOURS of making out(I'm the world's biggest kisser!!!)!!!!
