Stevie sounded like she had a LOT of her vocal problems from that tour that night. "Stand Back" especially sounded off.
However, I will say she got stronger by the time "Edge of Seventeen" hit.

Does anyone have a link to the 1981 concert (the HBO show) as broadcast originally on the radio? With the full "Outside The Rain", plus "Angel", "Leather and Lace", "How Still My Love" and "Bella Donna".
I have it on a bootleg vinyl album, but the sound is sped up a bit. My ancient cassette I made of it back in 1982 had the correct speed, especially noticeable on "Bella Donna" and "Angel".
Thanks, if anyone has a link!!!

The Maker of Birds aka Three Birds of Rhiannon is absolutely my new favorite demo! What a touching melody. Now why in the heck did it take me so long to fall in love with this song? I guess the song chooses you at the right time, you don't choose it (if that makes sense). Well it chose me today.
Any insight into this song? I know it's been discussed before but I didn't pay much attention at the time since I didn't think I liked it.

Lindsay, after Stevie's "Rhiannon" became a well-known song, Stevie then found out about the mythological Welsh goddess, mostly from the prose books by Evangeline Walton, based on the Four Books of The Mabinogion. It is after immersing herself in these stories that Stevie wrote her other Rhiannon-inspired songs, as well as changing the content to her own "Rhiannon" as well, mostly in meaning if not so many actual words.
"The Maker of Birds" is the title of the chapter in The Prince of Anwynn in which Stevie takes many of the images for her song. Stevie's "The Maker of Birds" was recorded and copyrighted in March 1978. The storyline in the song is from that book.
If you read the Evangeline Walton books, you will see how much they inspired Stevie.
***Remember, when Stevie wrote "Rhiannon" in November 1974, she knew nothing about the Welsh goddess, having only read the name as a name for a character in the book Triad, which was about two Welsh sisters, Rhiannon and Bronwen, but neither were goddesses or witches.

Thanks so much for the insight. I probably knew most of this but like I said I never paid much attention since I hadn't been a fan of the song in the past. I actually like it more than Lady From the Mountain, China Doll, If You Were My Love and the other piano demos from that time (those are from that time right?).
Do you love The Maker of Birds demo?

Oh, yes! "The Maker Of Birds" became one of my favourite songs when I first heard it in August 1988, when I bought the 3-LP set of Uncirculated Rumours at a record show in Houston. And it has remained near the very top of my favourites for the last 22 years.
The best parts for me are:
"When at first he saw her
It seemed she had no name...
She sat alone, and it seemed to him
That the light and the face were the same..."
And the first time Stevie sings:
"For you, Rhiannon,
I would fight, I would fight the world..."
Ooh, I have chills right now listening to it!!!! :)

none of these have great sound quality, but are listenable. prob not much of a sound upgrade.
"Thousand Days" - The fast outtake from Rock A Little.
http://www.mediafire.com/?e18m0wk4capj87i
"All The King's Horses" - A very different keyboard/drum machine demo with Stevie & The Girls. I like the rock band versions, too, but this one is really cool with different lyrics, but the sound is poor.
http://www.mediafire.com/?eg6cu9wivb1jgy7
"I Call You Missing" - Need I say more?
http://www.mediafire.com/?jtxwg4nvpb00n9j (i have this labeled as "She Calls You Missing")
"Rooms On Fire" - Talked about cassette-dubbed to death! The demo with the very different lyrics sounds like it was recorded under water, and I've never heard an upgrade.
http://www.mediafire.com/?ry9azdonjvmn3at
"Wild Heart" & "Nightbird" - The album versions with the full end lyrics, but cassette-dubbed into waaayyyyy sped up and tinny sound.
Wild Heart - http://www.mediafire.com/?w2z7yxjurftqa7g
Nightbird - http://www.mediafire.com/?gi9vxu8flf611ll
"Silver Springs" - Piano demo; Any upgrades? The two I have sound like someone is carrying the tape recorder and walking around the room away from and back to Stevie throughout.

"Mabel Normand"
"Blue Lamp"/"It's Not A Dream" - That combo keyboard/drum machine demo from the Rock A Little era.
"Destiny" - Outtake from The Wild Heart, the six-minute version, not the 4-minute edit.
"No Questions Asked" - FULL Ending version of Greatest Hits version (Not from the Masters, which are different mixes. This is the full ending, which keeps going, and Stevie sings, "She sees him whenever she can... Night after night, no questions asked... No questions asked...")

Which songs?
"The Maker Of Birds", "Forest Of The Black Roses" and "Forsaken Love" were copyrighted in March 1978. "Sorcerer" in 1972, "Planets Of The Universe" in 1976.
No idea about "Stay Away" ~ sounds about 1978 to me, but I've never seen a copyright date.

"Planets" and "Sorcerer" were not written for the Rhiannon project.
I said the same thing here a few months ago, and I was pointed in the direction of this 2001 interview:
http://rockalittle.com/interview_969fn_phoenix_may2001.htm
Stevie herself gives the answer herself after this question:
The opening guitar line in “Planets” is a nod to Lindsey’s guitar part from “Rhiannon.” Did you write it that way back in ’76?
“Well, it’s the same chords basically as ‘Rhiannon’; it’s not exactly the same, but there are parts of it that are the same. ‘Planets Of The Universe’ was one of the ‘Rhiannon’ songs—I have 11 songs over all of these years that if I ever wanted to [I could] do a movie or something built around the story of ‘Rhiannon.’ Those songs are all continuations of each other—‘Planets,’ ‘Rhiannon’ and ‘Sorcerer.’ I have recorded all 11 of them, just sat and played them all in a row to see what my line was through the whole thing, and for a long time I didn’t want to separate them.”
Are we familiar with any of those other tracks or are they songs that haven’t been released yet?
“There’s two or three on all the solo albums all the way back, but there’s probably seven left.”

From the 1994 Street Angel Tour:
"Docklands"
"Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind"
"How Still My Love"
"No Spoken Word"
"Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You?"
Also, since it's been several months, has anyone found the outtake of "Sisters Of The Moon" with multiple Stevie overdubs? Not the "Castanets Version" with all the "Ooh hoo, ooh hoo"s in it (like on the 2004 Tusk re-issue). The version I'm looking for (which originally circulated due to Maureen Loftus) has many Stevies overdubbed, singing the song. I used to have it on a CD I got from my friend, John G., but I lost the CD in 2006 before uploading it to my computer.
Again, it's not the version with the castanets and "ooh hoo"s, although those sounds may be in there as well. It's the several Stevies singing at the same time version that I'm still pining for.

To me, it doesn't seem to have a chorus. It's just verse after verse and I think some of them repeat like a pre-chorus but no real chorus. Am I wright or wrong? If I am wrong please tell me what lines you think the chorus are. Thanks.

Exactly! Glad you agree. Can you imagine how much more amazing the song could be with a good chorus? Maybe I'll compose one, ha!
On another note it could ruin the song if the chorus turns out to be weak i.e. Listen to the Rain and I know I'm going to get **** for this but I think the chorus of the song Wild Heart is much weaker than the verses. Still a great song, that's just my opinion.

Lindsay, I love all of "Wild Heart", but I do agree that the verses are stronger than the chorus.
"The Maker Of Birds", however, tells a story, so I don't need it to have choruses.

Does anybody know if there are Rock A Little/Mirror Mirror master reels out there in circulation? I have collected every d/l I can find but almost every song from this era sounds like it was dubbed from a warbly old cassette long ago. Is there anything the quality of all the Bella Donna demo stuff? Many of those BD-era reels are so crystal clear its almost unbelievable.
I'd looooove to hear a clean up sounding tracks like At the Fair, She Calls You Missing, Love is Like a River/Gretta/1000 days/Running thru the garden (the dancier/synthy RAL versions) or Prettiest Girl In The World, Tied Up in Promises, WHRAREDFY, Something Ecquisite etc etc etc....does anybody know anything?? ...or Maybe this is a dream right? ;)

"The Nightmare" - longer outtake
"Rock A Little" - song-writing demo session
"Whole Lotta Trouble" - 1986 version I posted on the WLT thread
"Are You Mine?"
"Joan Of Arc" - alternate demo
"I Sing For The Things" - piano demo
... and a few others. Not a lot. Several live songs from Red Rocks.
The songs you mention are not on the Masters, but many have been uncovered in much better, UPGRADED condition! Many are in this thread as well. JeffD has enhanced the sound of "What Has Rock And Roll Ever Done For You?", "Tied Up (In Promises)" and others, including a superior version of "She Still Loves Him" I uncovered earlier in the year.
Search through this thread, and look for comments after. Someone posted the BEST "Ooh Ooh Baby" on here that made me freak out! And two awesome versions of "Greta"!

Mike,
Thanks for the "Lady From The Mountain"... it sounds great! :blob2:
I decided to make an attempt to enhance the sound a bit... so I thought I'd share it here.
Editing Notes: I played with the right/left and center channels; some equalization; mild reverb to center channel; volume equalization; speed adjustment for intro and first quarter of song (on the mp3, the first section played slightly faster... I'm assuming it's due to a tape source issue)
Also, everyone please note that the original source is a lossy MP3 with a bitrate of 192... but since it has been edited and enhanced, I am uploading it as a WAV file:

Enjoy!

Fantastic, Jeff! Especially love the slowing down of the beginning, which bugged me to no end.
Now, the song sounds fantastic, with that wonderful, wild, emotional Rock A Little Stevie we all love!
I know the song was written circa 1979/1980, but it works so well with Stevie's 1984 life and voice.

I've just joined the forum after reading about it over on Seven Wonders and I just want to say thank you to everyone who has posted all this amazing stuff. I've found some absolute delights including: "Sanctuary" , "If You Ever Did Believe" (Demo), "Are You Mine" (Solo Demo) and "Planets of the Universe" (Extended). I'd also like to thank the poster who linked the http://bootlegtunzworld.blogspot.com/ site, I found some amazing stuff on there.
I don't suppose anyone has anymore "Shangri-La" demos, outtakes, remixes etc? What about "Rock a Little"? Feel bad requesting stuff since I've just joined :)

I'd looooove to hear a clean up sounding tracks like At the Fair, She Calls You Missing, Love is Like a River/Gretta/1000 days/Running thru the garden (the dancier/synthy RAL versions) or Prettiest Girl In The World, Tied Up in Promises, WHRAREDFY, Something Ecquisite etc etc etc....does anybody know anything?? ...or Maybe this is a dream right? ;)
Check the most recent Mirror Mirror thread in the Stevie forum. I posted some Mirror Mirror outtakes and Thousand Days demo that are probably the best quality I've heard. Not crystal clear, but far better than most.
I would love a master copy of the RAL versions of Lady From The Mountain, Running Through The Garden, the sax outtake of Thousand Days - and Love is Like A River - but I don't think we'll get them while Stevie is, um, alive.... :distress:
I suppose there's still hope for remastered/expanded version of her first four albums where tracks like this could be included - but even then I feel it's unlikely.

I'm having a Stevie day so random thoughts...
1. Can someone please remind me what year the Chanel Chanel demo is from? I know it's been discussed but I forget and am too lazy to go back and check.
2. I love the Nothing Ever Changes demo when she goes "I can turn all your muuuuuusic on". It's different than the way she sings it in the studio version. She doesn't hold the music note that long. And why did she change the word little girl to little boy? Sneaky little thing!
3. Why does Stevie have to get old? I mean she's not a real person or anything. Can't she just be timeless and never age? I say this because somebody on Facebook recently mentioned that she sounded like an old lady in the Dave Stewart shout out and it made me sad!
4. I finally got my poster of this and hung it on the wall (although it's smaller than an actual poster size like I thought it was gonna be). Isn't it like the grooviest shot ever? Like Stevie's tummy man. Who sees THAT??

5. Why can't I be obsessed with anyone other than (or in addition to) Stevie?
Please shed some light upon these topics. Thanks in advance.

4. Oh my goodness, her tummy! I've only seen it in one other picture before. Huh.. interesting.
5. Her ethereal beauty, the way she looks at 62. Her amazing music, lyrics & style. She is adorable at her age and always has been and you just want to squeeze her. You probably knew this but I just wanted to remind you. I'm also in love with Florence + the Machine. If you've never heard of her you should check her out!

Sad.. but I'm sure you're absolutely correct. I also keep hoping for expanded/remastered editions of her albums, but like you said, that's probably not very likely any time soon either... I had some hope a few years ago due to most artists/bands of that era getting remasters & re-releases. That was until I realized there were no plans to even continue remastering and releasing expanded editions of Mirage & Tango In The Night.

My thinking is that a lot of it has to do with how the CD format continues it's slide towards irrelevance. There is less incentive for record co. conglomerates to re-release older material now then ever before due to ever declining profits, unless it is a repackaged greatest hits disc. We may never see those records expanded and remastered now. SAD but true. You don't really even hear about that many artists box sets being released today like they were in the 90's and early 00's.
Stevie should release a bootlegs series exclusively through Itunes or something. I am sure it would get several thousands of downloads if we got upgraded material straight from the source:nod: Ahhh we can dream....

I think that's a great idea... Barry Gibb did this a few years ago by releasing his demo sessions for Barbra Streisand's Guilty album, Dionne Warwick's Heartbreaker album, Kenny Rogers' Eyes That See In The Dark album, and Diana Ross' Eaten Alive album through iTunes. They are no longer available though, which is too bad (especially since that was before iTunes Plus with improved bitrate quality was implemented)
In addition, they could release a very expensive, limited edition physical box set with all the same tracks for those fans and audiophiles that love getting our hands on a physical product with lossless quality audio tracks.

Hey everyone...
A recent post in another thread reminded me of the demo for a song called "Love & War" or "Mix Down"... I believe it was recorded somewhere around 1989-1991 (by what it sounds like).
I've only found MP3s of the recording at low bitrates (usually 128)... but since that's all I have, I decided to work on enhancing the quality (it always bugged me that most of the sound was panned to the left).
So here are the results (although it's originally a lossy file, I have uploaded it as a WAV to not further degrade the quality after editing):
http://www.mediafire.com/?7i1vgl88d8xn5j8
I think it's a definite improvement, particularly in the low-end... If anyone has a lossless copy of decent sound quality they could share, that would be wonderful. But until then, we all have this! :)
Editing Notes (for those interested):
I first raised the right channel to match the left. I then stripped the center and left/right channels apart for separate editing (which is what I usually do when I have tried to enhance files).
The center channel luckily contained most of the vocal track, so I re-equalized that... trying to bring some depth into it, while also brightening it up. I also added a little mild reverb to add some fullness.
The side channels I tried to even some of the volume levels (since the intro beat was much louder than the remainder of the track); did some re-equalization to reduce a little sharpness and boost low-end; used some mild noise reduction (most tape hiss was in right channel); tried to fix a couple glitchy audio artifacts (a few still remain)
I then re-mixed the channels together, used a little compression, and edited fade-in & fade-out.
Enjoy!

So I'm having a Dreams day. Can't get it out of my head, especially my favorite live version from 81' - "what you had sweet darlin', what you've lost". Sure we've all heard the song a thousand times and wish she didn't have it in her set anymore (I still do) but at the end of the day it's a spectacular song and a true classic compliments of Ms. Nicks! I just had to show Dreams some love.

Major request:
Any great soundboards of "Sara" from 1979/1980? I have many fantastic soundboards of "Sisters Of The Moon" from the Tusk tour, but none of "Sara". I do have one audience recording, and Stevie is amazing! I just figure there have to be some perfect quality recordings of "Sara" live as well.
As much as I love the version on Fleetwood Mac Live, I really don't like the ending, with no Stevie singing extra lyrics. No "crazy wind", no "Swallow all your pride", nothing. But on the St. Louis video, Stevie sings lots of extra lyrics at the end!
BTW, does anyone have that video version on audio as well? Even if it is chopped up and missing verses, it's beautiful to hear.

Well, this is very different than the(final) released version. I like the 2nd one better than this. This sounded an awful lot like the way she would sing it live back in the days of the RAL Tour, and I don't know if that's a good thing or not.

Request: Love is Never Lost demo. It's on youtube but I'd like the audio.
I have this labeled as 'Love You Enough'
I have a whole CD (from a master reel i assume) of Stevie and the girls in the studio practicing this song.
Stevies sounds like she is losing her voice, its kinda bad on some of it.
She says its the sequel to Beautiful Child.
If you want, i can post all of it. But for now..

My Love Never Gets Lost is the actual title on the master reel i think, but i was familiar with the demo as 'Love You Enough' long before i got a copy of the master reel. so i always refer to it as and label it as 'Love You Enough'

Pretty much. The song started out as My Love Is Never Lost, and the closer-to-final product was labeled as Love You Enough.

I always thought that song was a Fritz song. But, it's not a demo if it's the one with people shooting pool in the background. It would have to be a very early BN performance...which is really cool!
I need to get all the Fritz songs, I'm just prefer Stevie and Lindsey's writing.
Here's a list of all the Fritz songs I can find, I'm not sure how complete or accurate though:
**A Million Ways
*Amber
*Anybody Out There?
Born To Be Wild
Crying Place
Dream Away
Empty Shell
Eulogy
Flames Of Frustration
Georgia
*I Need You
If You Gotta Go, Go Now
In The Dawn
Ivory Walls
Louisa Joy
Next Time Around
Product Of The Times
Reconsider
*See The World Go By
*Stay Away
Take Advantage of Me
The Power
**Up to Fate
*When We Love Again
Wondering Why
Yellow
You There?
*Buckingham Nicks (?) - not Fritz per Javier Pacheco
**Fritz - first recordings

Stevie performed "Black Velvet" in 1991. I have it on cassette, need it digital!!!!!!
"Stay Away" is a Rhiannon song, so it is post-1976, after Stevie read the Mabinogion-centered books by Evangeline Walton. I'd put it around 1978. Just a guess.
"Amber"
"See The World Go By" (copyrighted as "Bubbles & Balloons" ~ Maureen was right!)
"Anybody Out There?"
"Rose Garden"
"I Need You"
All the above are Stevie-written and not ever performed or recorded by Fritz, per Javier Pacheco many times. Have any of those Stevie songs been upgraded? I just found a very nice "Anybody Out There?" (192kbps, Jeff!) and a 320kbps "See The World Go By". I just with that fantastic "Rose Garden" with the different lyrics was in better quality.

I honestly wasn't sure what it was but yes, it's the one with people shooting pool in the background so it must be a Fritz song. Does that mean Stevie didn't write it? And she didn't write any Fritz songs right, Javier did?

Stevie didn't write any Fritz songs. Javier said When Will We Love is not a Fritz song. He also said he thought the time frame on those songs was '72-'73, so def BN.

WHOA this just blew me away! I never understood why people liked this song so much until just now! Just shows how the quality can affect one's whole take on a song. The Heartbreakers with Stan Lynch had so much personality & style as a band. It's a shame to hear bands get old & personnel change. They lose something from their iconic years. But you can identify Stan & Michael here immediately, so unique is their sound.
If Stevie hadn't been in Fleetwood Mac, she'd have done the next best job in the Heartbreakers.

I'm curious as to what the intentions (if any) were for these songs? Does anyone know if they were considered for inclusion on Tusk or Bella Donna? The wiki page for Bella Donna says that "Stay Away" was a demo recorded for the album.

Johnny, some people claim that the alternate version of "Bombay Sapphires" on the 16-track CD of Trouble In Shangri-la (that many people received as gifts in September 2000 at Stevie's benefit in Phoenix) is produced by Dallas Austin. However, that CD has zero production credits included. No mention of DA, nothing.
That version of "Bombay Sapphires" has no hallmarks of Dallas' other work that I can hear. I dunno. But there is zero confirmation that that version is one of the "three or four songs" he and Stevie say that he produced in Atlanta in May 1999.
Markolas: Pretty much all of the songs Stevie intended for Tusk and Bella Donna have been deduced, thanks mostly due to the Masters.
"The Maker Of Birds", "Stay Away", "Forsaken Love", "Forest Of The Black Roses"... All were intended to be on Stevie's Rhiannon soundtrack, which was to be her first solo album. I don't know if she intended for any of them to be on Bella Donna once the film was put on hold (and eventually scrapped). None of those songs are in the Masters for Bella Donna (or Tusk), but some are in separate Masters from March 1978, just as piano versions.
That 1976 demo of "Planets Of The Universe" is included on the 2004 deluxe re-release of Rumours, so perhaps they considered fully recording it for that album at one point.
Interesting note: On the inner sleeve of the vinyl album of Streets Of Fire (1984), the lyrics to "Sorcerer" are printed and copyrighted as 1981. I always wondered if that meant that Stevie had renewed the copyright with new recordings of "Sorcerer" that she intended for Bella Donna. Of course, no Masters of "Sorcerer" exist in the fans' hands from this era, so I guess I was wrong.
Let me stress, we have nowhere near complete Masters for Bella Donna or any other era of Stevie's. Two different Reels from Bella Donna sessions were labelled as "Christian" - fast version, but no such versions of "Christian" were found anywhere in any of the Masters.

Bumping this because of some nice finds. Thank you, Lindsay!
I did have this CD in 1999, but never uploaded it before I lost the majority of my Stevie CDs in a move in 2006. This CD originates from Maureen Loftus, and she could get the most amazing stuff, although the quality varied.
Some of the coolest things on here:
"Angel" (Rehearsal Version) - Wonderful! Terrific sound!
"Lady From The Mountains" (Demo) - I knew I had this but could never find it! Very different demo for this song than the usuals. Nice overdubbing by Stevie as well. A great find!
"Fireflies" (Demo) - This is mislabeled and is actually the Alternate Version. Awesome, though!
"Fireflies" (Alternate Version) - Also mislabeled. This is the Single Edit of the Remix. Nice to have this again!
"Beautiful Child" (Demo/might be tour rehearsal) - This is Stevie's main album vocal, but without overdubs. I have so many mixes of this album version, and this is a different mix as well! It's kind of like this is where they started, with Stevie's main vocal (which they kept) and basic instruments, and then kept adding and deleting sounds and instruments. Very cool.
There are more cool things, to be sure! The wild thing about Maureen's CDs was that she got stuff that was never included in any Masters. Some was, but not nearly all. So, if you haven't downloaded these songs, I will say that I've gladly found some things I did not have/lost.
Thank you, Lindsay!!!
I hand these over to you all with much love and hope you hear something brand new to you! Enjoy everyone!

That's interesting. I've heard SN talk about a "Rhiannon" movie, but I didn't know that concrete plans had ever been made - she's talked about all kinds of stuff she wanted to do (blues album, children's book, cartoon, etc.), but I think they were more-or-less just her talking out her @$$, and I kind of figured this Rhiannon movie was another one. Interesting.
I have a ****load of demos but have had some trouble figuring out which songs were intended for Tusk, which for BD, WH, RAL, and TOSOTM. There seems to be some conflicting info. I'd love for somebody to just post a list of what songs were intended for what project.

When Stevie was first signed in 1978 as a solo artist, Rhiannon was to be the movie she would star in as well as provide the soundtrack. This was an actual "go" at the time. The first one of her seven contracted solo albums would be the Rhiannon soundtrack. As those plans started floundering (Stevie said she realized she hated being filmed), Stevie then started work on a rock and roll solo album. The earliest sessions in Early 1980 were with the Heartbreakers and included "The Dealer", "Starshine", "Outside The Rain", "Gypsy", "Sanctuary", "Castaway" and "Christian" (never heard a version with the Heartbreakers, though), but none of these recordings made the cut. In Early 1981, "The Dealer" and "Outside The Rain" were re-recorded with the Heartbreakers, with one version of "Outside The Rain" making the final album, now entitled Bella Donna.
I've figured out pretty well which songs I think go where, but everyone disagrees about one thing or another... as we should. We learn more about Stevie's music when we challenge each other.

Demos/outtakes I have listed as from or for Bella Donna:
24 Karat Gold
All the King's Horses
Baby Doll
Belle Fleur (I have a piano demo and a "studio" demo)
Blue Lamp
Castaway
Christian (Spinning Wheels)
The Dealer (must be 500 versions of this; some are labeled as from the Tusk sessions)
Gold and Braid
Gypsy (100 versions of this, and I'm never sure which are FM and which are BD)
If You Ever Did Believe
If You Were My Love (I have a piano demo and the "tropical" one from SA)
Julia (400 versions of this; I know SN tried it again for WH, but I've never heard a WH version)
Mystical Love (I have a couple versions of this)
Sanctuary
Sleeping Angel
Starshine
**also, there are like 1,000 versions of Lady from the Mountain; most of the ones I've heard have been from the RAL sessions, but did she try this one out for BD, too?

The version of "Julia" from The Wild Heart has been posted in this thread. Not great sound quality, unfortunately.
"The Dealer" was recorded for Tusk as well as Bella Donna.
"Lady From The Mountains" was recorded tons and tons it seems between 1978-1981, in addition to the sessions for Rock A Little in 1984.

Demos/outtakes I have listed as from or for Bella Donna:
All the King's HorsesI think it's premature to assume that anything Stevie recorded within a specific time frame was necessarily intended for an album at that point. Stevie & her friend Tom built a studio & recorded for long stretches, not always with a specific project in mind. I wouldn't link "All the King's Horses" (which appears to have been done several times--with Tom on bass--in & around spring/summer 1980) to "Bella Donna" solely because the time frame fits. Did Stevie ever mention it as a possibility for her first solo album?
The Dealer (must be 500 versions of this; some are labeled as from the Tusk sessions)Again, precarious to label these "Tusk sessions," which explicitly means that Fleetwood Mac tracked them at the Village Recorder. But I don't recall hearing any recording of this one performed by Fleetwood Mac. I do recall hearing some recordings of it with Stevie playing Christine's electronic piano (which Chris was using to track for "Tusk"--Stevie would not have had her own) & with Mick even playing drums, but that doesn't mean the band was tracking it or that it was ever on the running list for the band's album. Same goes for Mick & Stevie & undisclosed others on "Watchdevil."
Gypsy (100 versions of this, and I'm never sure which are FM and which are BD)
Post your questionable recordings of this, & I'll tell you whether Fleetwood Mac is doing it or not. As instrumentalists, they're easy to identify.

I think it's premature to assume that anything Stevie recorded within a specific time frame was necessarily intended for an album at that point.
Well, if something was recorded around 1980, even if they didn't do it with the specific intention of it being for BD, you'd think they would've considered putting in on there if they felt like they going somewhere with it. A lot of these demos are good, but on a lot of them, it's pretty obvious why they remained unreleased, as interesting as it might be for us to listen to them now.
Again, precarious to label these "Tusk sessions," which explicitly means that Fleetwood Mac tracked them at the Village Recorder. But I don't recall hearing any recording of this one performed by Fleetwood Mac. Same goes for Mick & Stevie & undisclosed others on "Watchdevil."
That, I can buy. Wasn't it decided that the demo of Smile at You that everyone had labeled as a "Tusk" outtake at one point, wasn't really being considered for "Tusk"? I remember reading something about that on here a few years ago. Same for the Beauty & the Beast "blues demo."

. A lot of these demos are good, but on a lot of them, it's pretty obvious why they remained unreleased, as interesting as it might be for us to listen to them now.
Quoted for truth. However what I find odd is how much the taste level dropped over the years. Songs like The Dealer and Sanctuary were deemed not good enough for an album release, while effluent such as Fire Burning & Welcome To the Room Sara, somehow, were good enough.
It's like living in backwards land!?

I think it was one of FM's producers, maybe Ken (?) who said that Fleetwood Mac never worked on Smile At You for either Tusk or Mirage. I seem to remember that being covered in one of The Penguin Q&As, but I might be off base.

Who the hell knows? I've heard people on here say that the reason "Julia" was left off of BD (& WH) was because Jimmy Iovine didn't like it. Maybe Stevie was left to her own devices with TOSOTM, as far as what songs ended up on it. Or maybe Rupert Hine really liked "Fire Burning."

That, I can buy. Wasn't it decided that the demo of Smile at You that everyone had labeled as a "Tusk" outtake at one point, wasn't really being considered for "Tusk"? I thought it was a free-for-all from 1976 until it showed up on one of the masters with the "Tusk" label. But I don't think that's necessarily settled. It might be--I always have to remind myself that some tracking took place in late 1978, after the summer tour. Ken Caillat is the one who told us that FM never tracked it for an album, & yet he seems to have known the song. We know he was wrong because the later run-through of it was definitely done in 1981, probably for "Mirage." It was on the track list for the album for the 1981 Circus magazine article, when Stevie said, "That's not really where we're at right now."
I remember reading something about that on here a few years ago. Same for the Beauty & the Beast "blues demo."That, too, shows up on a larger group of songs with a "Tusk" label. But I say it isn't studio tracking at all--it's live on a soundstage, & the only time the band is on a soundstage playing live is rehearsing for a tour. My guess: 1979 tour rehearsal.
I have three of them:

(Gypsy - rock outtake)

(Gypsy - demo)

Sorry! I must have tried a dozen different cool names from Stevie lyrics, but they were all taken! I finally just gave up and settled for the old standby my parents stuck me with! It's a fine name--not to worry. It also happens to be the name of the guy who started this very Web site.

Nah thats not the one.
It's where you hear Lindsey and Stevie sing ooh ooh ooh ooh oh in the chorus, It's a full song with all the parts in it.

Mark, what part of "Gypsy" do you call "the chorus"? What line is it after?
I have over 18 versions with the Heartbreakers, and only 4 with Fleetwood Mac, so I should be able to find it in those four. But I guess I don't have it.
There're also about 20 keyboard/drum machine demos, but you said LB sings on it, so it's not those...

You are very welcome. How'd you find out about us here? Also I wanted to say how impressed I am that you used an obscure song rather than a popular one.
