Yesssssss.
The next question would be...when???
This was a really confusing article. At first I thought the writer had mixed Mick up with Sting. Then I thought maybe it was written by Sting. After reading it a couple of times I'm still none the wiser, though I assume Sting was at the premiere with Mick and Stevie. I'm surprised Sting and Mick never seem to have crossed paths before.
Does this suggest the EP songs will be part of the new album?
Screams 'double album'.

I'll be damned; Hell has frozen over! I *REALLY* didn't think Stevie would want anything to do with FM for a minimum of 3-4 years after this tour was over. I thought for sure sometime after the first of the year that Stevie would announce all of the reasons she would be doing something else. Yet 2 weeks after the tour has wrapped, she's saying the album is a go! What a wonderful Christmas present!

Bet it has more to do with Christine than anything. If anyone could get through to Stevie, it's her. Or perhaps, even though tiring, she really did have a blast being with the other 4 on tour.

I agree... this was my initial reaction as well. However, the website seems legit enough, and the picture of Stevie backstage with Sting seems to reinforce that the author was indeed backstage talking to her. Getty Images has multiple pictures of the two together from last night. I guess we will just have to see if other, more trusted news outlets pick up the new album story.

Stevie Nicks: Fleetwood Mac Will Record New Album, Group Has “Plenty” of
by Roger Friedman - December 7, 2015 1:19 am, Showbiz 411
So: Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood were at the Broadway premiere of “School of Rock” Sunday night. Why? In the movie, Stevie’s “Edge of Seventeen” is cited and sung. In the musical, too. Big discussion of Stevie and Fleetwood Mac in the show, which got a lot of laughs from people in the audience who knew they were in attendance.
Backstage, Stevie told me the first time she knew “Edge of Seventeen” was in the movie, she was at home by herself with Sulamith, her hairless Chinese Crested, and watching TV. “I couldn’t believe it,” she said, “and I had no one to share it with but her.”
Stevie told me that Fleetwood Mac’s long world tour is finally over. Now they will undertake a new album. Not just the four songs they released for download in 2014. “A whole album, we have plenty of songs,” she advised. This will be most welcome. Their last album came out in 2003, before I was born.
I also met the great Mick Fleetwood for the first time ever. He is very tall and extremely nice, with long gray hair tied into a pony tail and a matching beard. We talked about the pre-Lindsay Buckingham-Stevie Nicks pairing coming to the Mac in 1977 for the self titled album that launched a mega career for the group (and went on Rumours, Tusk, and everything since then). Do you go back as far as [original member] Peter Green, Mick asked? I do, I told him, and we talked about “Bare Trees,” “Heroes are Hard to Find,” and “Hypnotized.” Mick was surprised that I knew Peter Green wrote Santana’s hit “Black Magic Woman.”
Sting, who’d really never met Fleetwood, said he went back to the Mac 1968 hit “Man of the World.” Fleetwood was impressed. I think he was impressed we knew that Fleetwood Mac started out a blues band.
Also PS I did ask Stevie why the original “Buckingham Nicks” album has never been on CD. It remains one of the few oddities of the rock era still only on vinyl somewhere (like my record bin). Mick chimed in “It got them the gig.” That was FORTY years ago. Well? “The real answer is, I don’t know,” said Stevie.
So much for that.
Just to clear things up the columnist is being sarcastic and most definently making a joke at his own age and also the fact that its been so long since their last album
This article is certainly not a hoax
it's extremely sloppy article (if it can be even called that, reads like that person was talking, had his phone convert it into words, and never looked back to see whether what's written actually makes any sense ), but it never struck me as a hoax.
wish we had more of a direct quote than what's in there, but - FINALLY!!!!!!
this only took 5 years so far since the rest of the band first started actually recording it, for her to finally agree to another FM album. hopefully adding Stevie's contributions to the album will take much much less and we will see that album some time in 2016/17 time frame.
and hopefully the whole 2016 will now not be hogged by the rest of the band having to work on just the FM album.

I'm sure Stevie will have new songs, but there is nothing wrong recording a demo; they don't have an expiration date. Our familiarity with her demos has no particular consequence.
What if a song like Rhiannon never evolved beyond a demo? Would it be too "old" to record in the future? Wouldn't you like it if she promised you heaven?
I'm elated that she's on board. We only have a scant five studio albums by the five fireflies. A sixth final album is very welcome.

I always felt that SN would do another album with FM. I must admit, though, it was fun to watch the debate whether she would or not.
How could she not??? Her past actions, quotes, interviews were all about FM carrying on. She always called FM "her band"... She came into the SYW sessions with "songs that were for FM".... Always proud of the "big time band of Fleetwood Mac". She knows where her bread - and clout - is buttered.
Even though she has had more commercial success with her solo career than my beloved Lindsey, the big machine of FM has done the same for her-- given her the avenues to pursue her own creative endeavors.
On a side note - going out on this last world tour, right after a huge world tour, because Christine came back, and putting all her own plans on halt, speaks volumes on just how committed SN really is to FM. I mean, come on!, there was no 3 year gap in between tours! Ha! I see it as she has sucked it up, marched on, and will not let the "whole big rock'n'roll thang of Fleetwood friggin Mac" whimper out.
And I think they all knew it too. Just drama... Just drama.....

I don't think it's at all a bad sign that Stevie wants to do a few "solo projects" before an FM album. In fact, I figured that was a given and what she was likely holding out for all along.
She can do a small solo tour in the spring, April-May, while the band tinkers with songs she gives them, then hit the studio with them over the summer, putting the new album at a fall 2016/spring 2017 release.

no, i think that would be a perfect timeline. as long as they are not in a standstill anymore and they can plan their year, it should be all good.
the problem is that we are now very unsure whether we can trust ANYTHING written in that "article".

I actually think most of the sturm und drang comes from fans rather than the group itself.
It's not at all surprising that Nicks mentions doing a few solo projects prior to the new Mac album coming out. It's in line with Buckingham's comments that the new album may take awhile to finish, and with Nicks's previous comments about wanting to release an expanded version of 24 Karat Gold.
The major news is that Nicks is now saying there will be a new Mac album, something she wasn't saying before.

actually, most fans are just transmitting what Christine, Mick and Lindsey have been saying either in interviews, in Mick's meet and greets and in Lindsey's encounters with fans.
all three of them were very clear since the beginning of 2014 that everyone in FM except Stevie wants that new FM album, that they've been already working on bunch of new songs with at least 7 finished, that they are really hoping that Stevie will get on board, but that they will find other options to get their new material out if she's not on board, and that they are frustrated with not knowing what is next for FM and not being able to make any other plans because they keep waiting for Stevie to make up her mind one way or another.
so if this piece of news is true, and if Stevie has finally come to a decision to join the FM album, that must be a huge relief for the rest of the band, so they can finally make some plans.
and yes, probably since the early 80s this has been how FM operates, we just didn't know all this since there was no social media, and maybe Mick and Lindsey were not as open to talking to fans as they are these days. that doesn't mean these people don't get fed up with the same ole inefficient way of operating, as they are getting older and the time is running out.

What an absolutely crap piece of journalism this is. Regarding the update- I assume this is extra information the writer happens to 'remember' from the original meeting as opposed to 'new' information that subsequently came through to him. My next query is- Mick will be working on a 'Fleetwood Mac project of some kind' or has he got that wrong too? Will it in fact turn out to be a 'Mick Fleetwood project'?

 i know, i just wrote this exact same thing somewhere else.
i really hope you are right and this will be some Mick Fleetwood project, not that FM will be slaving away in the studio the whole year waiting for SN to join, kinda like they did according to Destiny Rules doc for SYW.
i want Lindsey to have the first part of the year for his solo projects. i want him to put some of that treasure trove of new music he has been recording since 2012 out as another solo album, and i want a solo tour in 2016. last time we saw him solo on tour was 2012 - way too long for my taste! i'm sure he conveniently forgot by now that he promised a "request" solo tour. :p

TOTALLY agree.....I don't think we'll see the FM album until late 2016 or early 2017.....remember, 2017 is the band's 50th anniversary, so it only makes sense that they would release the album and do another tour. That gives Stevie a good portion of 2016 to do her solo thing and get it out of her system! There WILL be another FM album with all 5 members....maybe not as soon as some would like, but it WILL happen!

I don't think the drama is contrived. They are all disparate personalities with different agendas. Stevie's and Lindsey's contentious relationship has ebbed and waned ever since they joined the band. No doubt they have exploited that aspect of the band. It went into hype-drive with Rumours.
But the tension is real, and exists to this day. It's why they only made five studio albums. Live albums, compilations, solo albums, with band members coming and going and coming back filled the large spaces in between.
The drama is inherent in their DNA, beginning when Peter Green dramatically left the band. With this massive world tour, they are back on the radar on a large scale. There is no need for deliberate tactics to garner the attention of the press.

well yeah, some of us (and some of the band members!) wanted a FM album in 2010, then 2012, and in 2014/15.... we could have had 2-3 FM albums instead of just a measly one, some with and some without missing or non-cooperative band members, with all the material they recorded so far. but it is what it is.
right now, things are good. at least we know we will get to hear some of the material they recorded 2012-2014. and 2017 sounds the most realistic for the new album to come out right now. which is better than nothing, and better than band members sitting around waiting.

For me, seeing an album in 2017 was always going to be a worst case scenario. I mean, its great there's some certainty from the horses mouth, but as has been said, there's been so much waiting, this recent Stevie announcement was a real source of excitement for a while. I feel a bit deflated now. Stevie can shove her solo project up her Vault as far as I'm concerned.

I know how you feel. We've waited for this never ending tour to conclude and yet the new album still seems so far off. As a Stevie fan, I'm hoping this solo thing next year is a very quick recording of Vault 2, nobody wants a repackaged version of Vault 1. I also hope she's not touring behind this.
I'd rather she get her ass in the studio with Fleetwood Mac to record that album ASAP.
I wouldn't mind a repackaging of Vault 1 as long as some tracks were re-recorded/remixed and of course, Vault 2 was included.

Stevie had a lacklustre response for 24KG, even though it hit #7, so surely she realises that whatever she follows it up with won't be greeted with huge success.
A new Mac album, the first since 2003 and the first with all five since 1987 WILL do incredibly well and I just can't bloody wait for that day to come.
Surely if it does come it will be one of the most anticipated albums of all time?

 why? old legendary bands are putting out new albums all the time, and some after a long abstinence from recording together. how anticipated and successful they are in most cases heavily depends on their pr campaign, which in this day and age includes highly and smartly developed social media strategy, peppered with the right tv appearances (like the Today Show where they announced Christine is rejoining), etc. if history can teach us anything, FM has not had a good marketing strategy in a long long time, and i don't really expect the things to change for this album either. but it would be really nice to be proven wrong!
i don't think Mick and Lindsey, at least, expect the new album to be any kind of commercial success.

I remember a new Eagles album being a big deal several years back, went on to be a big seller. As for Fleetwood Mac, I think if the right first single was chosen for AC and or Adult Top 40 stations, it could do well worldwide. Would be a good idea to release around the holidays. Sure, it won't sell Adele type numbers, but better than a Stevie solo album would sell. Out of all these fans around the world who paid to see these 5 in concert, I couldn't see the new album bombing.

My bet is it will be a Mick Fleetwood thing. Perhaps another Blues Band album or something (perhaps with Christine on board- that would be great). Otherwise I can imagine him working on yet another retrospective FM album... Fleetwood Mac: The Platinum Collection. Yawn.
Rumours 40th anniversary edition. :p

I wouldn't mind a repackaging of 24K with a new, proper remastering! There are weird things going on with the final mix of that album. She could pair it with a second disc of live recordings from the Fillmore or Wiltern Shows!

I doubt she's going to sink any more money into that losing venture. However, I could easily see her doing a second Songs From The Vault album, and a small theater tour this summer to promote the songs from both albums. Then returning to FM by Autumn.

I wouldn't mind a repackaging of Vault 1 as long as some tracks were re-recorded/remixed and of course, Vault 2 was included.

nooo.... way too soon for any sort of remix/remaster/rerelease of that album. no one who hasn't already bought it is going to buy it in a new format. And it would be a waste of the opportunity to get new music out.
It's bad enough we're not getting new Mac music any time soon, for her to delay a FM album for a retread would be an even greater sin.

I always felt that SN would do another album with FM. I must admit, though, it was fun to watch the debate whether she would or not.
How could she not???
Like waiting for Hillary Clinton to announce she was running for president!
The idea of a FM album/"project" without Stevie sounds incredibly ominous but I am glad to hear she has officially committed to another album!
I would welcome SFTV 2 and a small Stevie tour in the interim before the next FM album!!
I love that people are always asking about Buckingham Nicks. Maybe all this pestering will get them to actually release it!
Stevie and FM both should hire Dave Stewart to promote their album, IMHO. From what I hear, a lot of the successful 24KG promotion (i.e. Stevie's photo exhibit) were his ideas.
Slight tangent, but I wish the band/Stevie would stop using exclusively morning TV to try to get the word out. They say the same thing on every show and I of course speak for myself here, but I don't know anyone who watches morning shows. The only time I watch is if the show has posted a clip of someone I like on Youtube. I think they'd be better off with late night appearances or high-profile cameos in other mediums if they want new fans.
I'm in my twenties and I discovered the band a few years ago through Stevie's American Horror Story appearance. My dad was a fan and had some of their old albums but buying new music is the last thing on his mind. Stevie seems to be the only one willing to advertise to younger generations, but truly, people my age will buy good music. They just have to find out about it somehow and decide it's worth buying.

What an absolutely crap piece of journalism this is. Regarding the update- I assume this is extra information the writer happens to 'remember' from the original meeting as opposed to 'new' information that subsequently came through to him.
Good question. Did someone call and tell him to clarify his story or did he just decide to update it when he saw social media response to the news.

Based on his little "oh the drama" type comment at the end of the update, I'm willing to bet he was contacted by someone in Stevie / FM's management to clarify after they got wind that the story was making the rounds.

That's harsh.
People have to follow their own path in life. We each have our own route to happiness, and sometimes those paths cross, and sometimes they don't.
Think of the albums that might have been between 1987 and 1997, had Lindsey not walked out completely.
But again, we have to follow our own paths. No one else is going to put you first, but you.

Not to mention Christine leaving for 16 years.Sure I would have loved it if FM had made a new album right away instead of the long and lucrative oldies tour.If Stevie had not been in the mood to do it however her work on it would suffer and after her having dropped the ball so badly on Tango I for one would hate to see that.

The difference between Stevie now and Lindsey and Christine before is timing and age. They had time to leave and come back then. Christine couldn't take 16 years off now. She'd be, what, 89? Lindsey, too, would be quite old in 10 years. Late 70s. The band doesn't have all that time to waste anymore. Stevie also took a break from the band in the 90s too. Stevie can keep going as long as she wants to, she's in control of his solo career, after all. The band will not go on indefinitely and probably has only a short time remaining as there are 5 people that need to come together for it to work and they're all getting up there in age. So, as far as the band is concerned, Stevie just isn't afforded the opportunity to take an extended break anymore and expect everything to just pick back up later.

Completely. I was listening to Say You Will a couple days ago, and it's been a while I was caught of guard by how detached Stevie sounds on a couple tracks. There in her head but not her heart.

You make a great point. There is a sense of urgency about all of this because of their age, and Stevie should give that consideration.

That's what I've come to expect. 2017 album and tour (band's 50th, Rumours's 40th, Tango's 30th, Dance's 20th anniversaries). I just hope all of this pressure for new material from fans doesn't cause the band to release another Say You Will type double album that sounds very disjoint and includes way too many poor songs that should have been scrapped. I'd prefer an 11 track album that flows nicely to an 18-20 track bloated double album that's crammed with filler for the sole purpose of getting as much new material out as possible. Even with Stevie just contributing a few vault songs, there should be enough quality material from the 3 to create a relatively even single album without any weak fillers.

I agree.....as hot as Fleetwood Mac is right now, if they stay in the public eye for the next year and build up anticipation for the album, I think it could be a MAJOR hit! (Finding a great label to back them will also be vital!).

I'm with you. Say You Will is a good album. Taking consideration to the dearth of the band's output in contrast to their longevity, I'm appreciative of anything they put out. Sure, Say You Will could be a tighter album if it was pared down. Some could say that about Tusk too. But they are what they are, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I'm hoping they record more songs than required (10 to 12) for a traditional album. There seems to to be a trend now of longer albums and/or bonus tracks.

What's The World Coming To? is a terrific song. It was a good upbeat opener. When I first played it I thought 'hey this is pretty good, I'm quite relieved' (I was worried the album might have been a complete bummer). It's not the best song on the album but it certainly isn't the worst. I can't think how anyone would feel it to be 'filler'. Certainly the band didn't think so otherwise they wouldn't have opened with it. I'm not sure there are any songs that you could 100% describe as filler songs though you could probably strip out Red Rover, Come, Silver Girl and Goodbye Baby- that would have left a more concise, playable album. I'm sure there are plenty of people though, that will be in uproar that one or more of those songs are amongst their favourites.

If they have so much material and are likely to be recording more in the Spring I really hope they'd give us a 12 song album at the end of next year followed by a second one a short time later in 2017. That way they can shift some of the stuff thats been sitting on the shelf and still have 'new product' out in the big quinquagenary year.

while you and i agree on the opening song, apparently we are the only ones if you look at the comments above in this thread.
the rest on your list? i know you are not serious now :D. you are clear that you are talking about the songs you don't like, but mot necessarily about the filler songs. but you called them filler originally, and everyone likes and dislikes different songs on SYW so i feel a string need to defend this album, since some of my all time favorite songs are on it (and yeah sure solo LB GOS would have been much better but that ship has sailed).
here's the track list - with my opinion on what is a filler vs what i don't like -
1. "What's the World Coming To?" - filler, don't like, hurts my ears.
2. "Murrow Turning Over in His Grave" - stunning song (but it's rocking, and not for poppy or adult contemporary taste so if that's your musical taste - sure you will not like this song. not a filler)
3. "Illume (9–11)" - if i didn't read all the opinions here, i would consider this song a filler. it hurts my ears.
4. "Thrown Down" - definitely not a filler, it's going for a pop hit, old time rumours-era FM vibe (but eh to me)
5. "Miranda" - not a filler (but eh to me)
6. "Red Rover" - unbelievable, stunning, intricate song. not for everyone's taste, but definitely not a filler. some consider it one of Lindsey's best.
7. "Say You Will" - see Thrown Down
8. "Peacekeeper" - great lyrics, for music see Thrown Down, but less formulaic
9. "Come" - hard rocking song. not for the light of heart, pop / adult-contemporary-music-liking FM fans. definitely not a filler. trying to show Mac can rock. apparently many FM fans don't want them to.
10. "Smile at You" - eh, too bad this was not the original version, which did rock unlike this one. but not a filler.
11. "Running Through the Garden" - this one hurts my ears too, but it's definitely not a filler.
12. "Silver Girl" - eh, this one really does seem to be a filler, however you turn it or look at it. boring, droning.
13. "Steal Your Heart Away" - not a filler, no need to even discuss
14. "Bleed to Love Her" - one of Lindsey's prettiest songs. not a filler, no need to even discuss
15. "Everybody Finds Out" - rocking, although boring to me. but not a filler.
16. "Destiny Rules" - gorgeous guitar parts save this one from the droning voice. definitely not a filler.
17. "Say Goodbye" - Lindsey channeling some old crooners. although intricate guitar parts that should have been used in a better song. can't stand this song. but people don''t consider it a filler, and love it. FM members definitely don't consider it a filler.
18. "Goodbye Baby" - i think this song is pretty. could have been better, more melodic, etc, but still. pretty. not a filler.

Wow, we do agree.. except 18 is awful... 14 just plain don't like it.. but not filler.. I agree... I like 11, but yeah Stevie was not in great voice on most of this album.. drone is a good word for it...

Another opinion on Say You Will:
The only Stevie songs I like on it are Thrown Down, Goodbye Baby, and to a lesser extent Destiny Rules.
The only Lindsey songs I DON'T like on it are Peacekeeper, Miranda, and Come.

WTWCT is the weak link of Lindsey's songs to me, though there's a neat lyric or two. Musically, I find it fairly uninspiring. Silver Girl is definitely the weak link of the album, though. Other than those (and some production choices and vocals I would have re-done), I think it's a pretty solid album, especially considering its length.

I like (not love) all of Say You Will...except Red Rover and Come.
Red Rover has some complicated stuff going on, but it just annoys me to no end. About half-way through I say "No." and press the button to skip it. It's the chorus, I think, if I had to pinpoint my annoyances.
Come I don't like because of the slow-MANIC-slow-MANIC verse and chord structure.
The rest of the album is technically great but Stevie's *soul* is completely lacking from all of her songs.

I see SYW as Stevie's best solo effort, the 9 tunes of hers produced by Linds certainly consistently exceed any of her solo albums. Excellent production and Linds managed to tease some great vocals out of her when she was vocally not at the top of her game, and he is a genius in the studio. I especially love Illume, Running through the Garden, and Smile at You.
Linds doing his own stuff gives me a migraine on this one.... with the exception of Steal Your Heart Away. The man should stick to producing and stop pretending to be a songwriter. Or a singer. Ick.

I agree with the bolded text, but not the first part of your statement. All of the ingredients were there, but for me, they just didn't pull it off.
To me, Stevie's vocals come off as sterile. When she emotes, it's too careful and measured. She's trying too hard. Girl can't let her hair down. Honestly, it's probably to shut Lindsey up because I get the impression that he so very much enjoys nit picking at her over little details.
Then again, as the Producer, that's sort of his job.
I do believe neither one of them is capable of taking a technical approach to the other's songs without letting emotions get in the way. In the machine of Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey is granted too much influence over the end result of Stevie's songs; both the band and the album would benefit greatly from an outside producer taking the helm completely. Someone up-and-coming but known by none of them personally. If I were the band counselor, that would be my prescription for them.
Lindsey is a pro - I can't deny that - but the magic that he gave to Stevie tracks of yore just isn't there anymore to my ears, and I don't know that it even exists in him to do that anymore. There was an emotional investment going into those songs back then that can't exist now.
Or maybe it can. I don't know, but I don't hear it on any of the tracks recorded for Say You Will.

while i agree that Stevie's sound / droning voice / possible lack of emotion is evident on SYW, i'm not quite sure whether that's a result of too much or too little Lindsey's influence.
just on the bases of watching that Destiny Rules document - he seemed to have been more interested in mending the fences / repairing a relationship and letting her feel his support, unlike during their younger heyday. during Rumours / Tusk / Mirage / Tango years he was not afraid - and probably really enjoyed - telling her what exactly is wrong with her songs and how they should sound. during SYW and more recent times, as you said, he doesn't have all that love/hate emotional investment in her anymore, he's more interested in repairing the relationship, so he is more interested in letting her run with whatever she wants to do with the songs. which results in less of his influence and less of his vision for her songs.
remember in Tusk doc when they are working on Angel and he says "IF we even use your melody" or something like that? i can never imagine him saying something like that these days. and she would never let him, either. so SYW Stevie songs may be a result of too little Lindsey influence and his holding back to tell her exactly what he thinks of her songs.
all speculation, same as yours. but that's my impression from that Destiny Rules doc.
also quite possibly, she is not nearly as open to let her emotions and guards down anymore, like she was when she was young, drunk, and high - especially around someone like Lindsey whose shadow and influence on her success she seemed to have been trying to get out of most of her musical career.
which all leads me to agree with you - while Lindsey and the rest of the band should work with Stevie on her songs (if she has any) and make sure there is a cohesive sound to the album, there should be also another producer brought in, who will not have the same baggage Lindsey has with Stevie, and can say whatever he/she thinks.
I have been buying these records since the beginning. It's age. I was playing some early stuff this past weekend from the 70's. It's just the reality of her voice as as a 60 plus year old. Lindsey or anyone else could only so do much " magic" in the studio. I will still take what is delivered.

 Yes and yes - I too felt that Lindsey took a conciliatory tone with Stevie in the Destiny Rules doc, but Stevie - as much as I love her - did not seem particularly interested in being reconciled. She didn't impress me - and I only saw the documentary last year - but it forever changed the way I hear that album.
She stood in stark contrast to the Stevie presented in In Your Dreams. That Stevie was affable and gregarious.

It's Indiana. My pool is closed. I can fix lots of things, but not aging voices in my favorite band. I now think Stevie is stronger than Lindsey. On this last tour, the backup singers sang most of his chorus parts, while he just did the responses.
I need one more album, and one more tour. Then they need to go their own way. I mean, I'd go see them forever, but they should bow out gracefully, before they all look like Keef.

I thought Mick's comments about SYW in his recent autobiography were quite interesting, actually.
"His self-sufficiency proved to be a bigger problem for Stevie than he could have imagined. It made her feel apart and a bit of an outsider when it came to writing. As the only other songwriter in the band, Stevie had thought she and Lindsey were going to have a new and closer creative partnership. But instead, she felt separated from the proceedings, and that was not good. In retrospect, Lindsey has said that he brought in too much of a preconceived vision and if given the chance, he’d not do that again, because it alienated her."
He then went on to speak about what changed after that:
"Lindsey began writing differently than he had in the past; he would bring us and Stevie demos that were spare ideas, recorded simply, allowing plenty of space for all of us to contribute. It also left room for a new story to be created between the two of them, or an old one to be picked up again."
And:
"Lindsey’s vision for Fleetwood Mac without Christine became fully realised in the decade after Say You Will. He and Stevie had been able to resume where Buckingham Nicks left off, and in some ways revive what was subsumed by Fleetwood Mac. Without Chris in the band, their performance style changed, and their vocal harmonies grew closer to how they were in their early days together. I think the Extended Play EP and our 2013 tour showcased just how much the band has grown into that groove, which has been a wonderful connective bridge for Stevie and Lindsey to explore."

thanks, interesting comments speaking again of his searching for some kind of reconciliation with her in different ways - and none of them working as far as she is concerned.
she expected him to work close with her on (his?) songwriting during SYW (even though they all knew he was bringing basically already fully flashed out songs that were supposed to be on his solo album!?), yet she came to the studio months after he and the rest of them were working on the new album and after she gave them her songs to work on them in her absence. when that didn't work out as a songwriting approach, and since SYW, he tried several different ways, even with his own songs and not just hers ("he would bring us and Stevie demos that were spare ideas, recorded simply, allowing plenty of space for all of us to contribute", and she was still reluctant to even say yes to recording every one of those times (and finally, about a year after they started the process, spent 2 days adding her vocals to 2 of his songs and recording an old BN song for EP).
so there is definitely a disconnect there, which have not been mended since SYW, no matter what strategy Lindsey and the band tried, and even with Christine back. maybe now with Stevie finally agreeing to the new album some of that has been resolved?
Maybe they've worked it out by now. Say you Will Was 12 years ago (!!) and they've had a few tours to develop a better working relationship and Christine is back (!!).
i hope you are right.
there was definitely still a disconnect before the tour in 2014 and during US legs of the OWTS tour, even with Christine back. but maybe all was finally resolved some time during the last few shows in Australia or NZ and that's why we now finally have a statement from Stevie (interestingly not strongly publicized or amplified?) that there will be a new FM album.
if Stevie contributes some songs, i'm still hoping for an extra producer who can help mediate.
You like What's the World Coming To more than Come or Miranda?
I do, yes. For me, WTWCT is a great, fun song to sing along with -- a catchy, melodic, albeit rather lightweight way to start the album. I enjoy it much more than Miranda or Come.
I don't actually hate Miranda or Come; I just don't find that I return to them often. Come is a very ambitious song -- its complicated arrangement and intense emotion are impressive, but for me it doesn't fit with the rest of Say You Will AT ALL. It would have made more sense on one of Lindsey's solo albums. It's so clearly a song that Stevie would hate, and that lacks a place for her to take part in musically, that there's just nothing Fleetwood Mac-ish about it.
Miranda isn't awful; I like Lindsey's guitar in it, but the melody feels monotone and a bit boring.

It's ironic, you would think that having Christine out of the picture in 2003 it would some how give them room to be themselves again. They just don't see eye to eye musically or in life. And the EP was so telling of the disconnect. Especially without a Stevie track. I know they did Without You, but it really seemed thrown together and the vocal isn't pleasant to my ears.
Christine's return has really been, in my mind, the bridge between B/N and lighting a fire under them for new tour, new music and having the firefly magic happen. They seem to be alive, again!

From what I saw in the Destiny Rules doc, Lindsey's big mistake was suggesting Stevie edit her lyrics. He was kind of bossy from there on out, from the situation with the producer, to the record label, etc.
I love the songs on Say You Will but I don't like the poppy, too-slick 2000s sound of it.
I think Lindsey works the best on Stevie's songs, but only in his amazing guitar work and their chemistry as musical partners -- he has the ability to elevate her songs to a whole new level. I don't always feel the same about his producing skills, especially when he adds too much. I really appreciate the FM sound up to maybe Mirage, after which it begins to really sound stuck in a certain decade. :distress:

They pay Lindsey.
He does not produce their stuff for free.
He gets the producer's fee and he gets the producer's cut of the royalties.
He's not dumb, and even if he were, he has his own manager, lawyers, etc. who would not agree to him doing all that for free.
Stevie has been quoted in the past as saying because of his producer royalties he's gotten more money than the others.
Bands may start out as doing it for love but it's business and that stuff ends fast.

I don't think cost has much to do with it. Lindsey has produced so much of the band's work because they have been largely successful under his guardianship. An outside producer might, in theory, make Stevie feel more comfortable, but the reality is that the best FM projects are homegrown. This is partially because these five people together are idiosyncratic and difficult to tamp down.
For all its flaws, SYW turned out to be a really rewarding project, perhaps the band's most substantial offering since Tusk.
I doubt an outside producer will be brought in, as Christine and Lindsey have already worked on nine songs as a team. At most, someone buffer might be brought in to negotiate drama between Stevie and Lindsey, but this album--if it ever sees the friggin light of day--will most likely be a Lindsey/FM production...

I felt this way about SYW.
When Twisted was about to come out... I thought.. "Wow!! B/N together." I ran and bought the whole album so I could listen to the song. I remember being disappointed they listed it as Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham vs. B/N.
And of course I was wanting that amazing chemistry they had on B/N, White Album, and Rumours... And I remember being so disappointed.. There's a disconnect that I hear, just like there is on SYW and the EP.
There's a 2011 Wiltern version of Soldier's Angel that I can barely get through. Mostly because of the droning.
I wish they would sit down and write together in the studio like Christine and Lindsey do. Or even the three of them would write something together.
Make some magic and quit marketing yourselves on the past. It doesn't work musically. It does work dollar wise because their relationship sells.

I always likened the sound of a record / turntable to real-life voices and instruments. When I play a CD, it sounds to my ears like a perfect, cold, crisp recording. But when I play a well mastered record, if I close my eyes it almost sounds warm, like the band is playing live, there, with me.
Records just sound more real. It's difficult to explain any other way.

I forgot to add.If anybody needs a new turntable .The best thing to do is finding a 1950's to 1980's old vintage good working one with a good cartridge and needle .Technics ,Pioneer ,Garrard ,BSR is just a few great name brands. I would not trust any of these cheaply made new ones on good vinyl.
I'm using a cheapy from Best Buy. Sony, but only 99 bucks. I've had it for a few years and it works well, but I'm planning an upgrade in 2016.
The options range from $400 up to $10K, but I can't fathom spending more than a few hundred for a turntable. MusicDirect has one that is THIRTY EIGHT THOUSAND dollars!

You can find them at Fleamarkets,Tag sales ,Ebay,Craigslist ,Your relatives and friends and neighbors maybe for free.
About a year and a half ago, my friend was moving to a new apartment and was going to get rid of his stereo, and he said I could have it. It's an all-in-one stereo with a turntable, two cassette decks, a radio and a receiver. It must be from the 1980s, since it doesn't have a CD player (but I connected an AUX cable so that I can play digital files or CDs through it if I really want to). Since he gave it to me, I've been listening to records (and cassettes!) a lot, and it really is my favorite way to listen to music. Analog sound is more satisfying to my ears. There are a few used record stores in my area that let me trade in old stuff (CDs, DVDs, etc.) in exchange for store credit, so now I can spend hours browsing at the music store just like I used to do when I was a kid. It's pretty much my main hobby these days! I've been able to get many near-mint condition Mac-related albums and tapes (not to mention lots of other artists) for free or very cheaply, including Tusk (on vinyl and cassette), and Mick Fleetwood's The Visitor album, which I'd never even heard until now.

They can keep the one for $38 thousand dollars unless its gold plated with Stevie's or Mac's name on it and they once owned it.

Some of those all in one compact stereos from the 1970's and 80's work great .I have a 1970's Realistic from Radio shack which sounds great and it has a BSR turntable in it.I rather use one of those then a USB record player.Just hook the line out from the stereo to a RCA to a 1/8 inch stereo plug wire and plug that into you sound line input on your computer or laptop, dont plug it into the computer mike jack or take the audio out of the speaker output. It might burn something out or it will overload and sound distorted.
Easy to adjust sound level using your recording software prog.

I am glad to hear that Stevie is on board for the new album. I wonder if she will write new material or take some songs from the vault. Space Needle would be a good choice.
What I am waiting for now is a public announcement by the band or their management about when the album will be released and what it will be called. That's when I will start to get really excited.

I still think they might announce some more tour dates for 2016...maybe another leg of US/Canada shows.

I'm interested to see what Fleetwood Mac could come up with these days. I just would rather not ever see any of their new songs live. If I pay $400-$500 a ticket for floor seats, I want all 20+ songs on the set list to be songs that I love and can sing along to.

Complete opposite for me. I'd pay good money to see/hear new material. In fact, I'm not sure I'd pay again to go and see them without new songs (at least, not for high price tickets). Sadly they probably won't play more than 5 new songs.

Agreed, I wouldn't go to see them again without N-E-W music, unless it was a last tour...

yup - Sad Angel was a highlight of 2013 tour and made it so much less stale! and many reviews commented how surprisingly everyone upfront knew all the words and sang the whole completely new - and at first even unreleased - song with the band.
that said, when did the thread about the possibility of the new album become yet another discussion about who wants to hear what songs on tour??
if they are supporting new album, FM usually play about 6 new songs.
if you don't want to hear new songs just same ole hits, don't go - you had last 20-40 years of tours and countless DVDs with all those same songs instead.

Of course I would love to hear new material. But I rather hear the songs they rarely do live or never did live before on older albums. I know that wont happen. Most of us on this board are true fans that appreciate those songs. But sadly most people in the concert hall run to the bathroom during the best songs live. I would love to hear old Christine songs (pre-Stevie and Lindsey) live but I know that is not going to happen :(

Yes, I've skipped concerts from bands I enjoy for lack of change in the set list from previous tours. I like hearing new stuff, provided the new stuff is good, but I don't have concern that these guys will have enough good enough material to play live.

Unless the album comes out after the tour has started (which absurdly happened with Lindsey's tour), you'll have ample time to learn the new songs, love them and sing along to them.

I was thinking about all the songs that Lindsey and Christine have already recorded and whatever Stevie will be contributing I'm really expecting a 21 track release. I hope its sequenced like Tusk. I love the way it was done. You have a nice balance to start the album of all three singers. Then it's Heavy with Lindsey and Stevie tunes and then after nine tracks Christine returns and then the album closes with the same kind of balance it opened with.

It says on the band's website in the Events section "There is nothing to display yet, check back soon" which makes me think there is a looming announcement of more tour dates.
I hope to hear a lot more from the band about their plans for 2016. Sadly there hasn't been any notable Fleetwood Mac news since the interview with Stevie which was at least a fortnight ago.
I guess all five of them are relaxing and recuperating after their world tour. I wonder if Stevie has been writing new songs on her piano, maybe in that house she bought and spent just two days in last year.

I think the majority of the set list is taken up by songs which they consider "must plays". The portion of the set list that would change is likely very small. IMO, if those songs are simply other old songs I'd rather not go.

They don't do much with the set list at all. Adding Sisters of the Moon was probably "out there" for a Mac tour. And that is so interesting considering the release of the Tusk box set where they were experimental. You would think they would mix up the set list every once in a while. But when it comes to touring, it is mainly the hits and very fine tuned performances of them. Don't get me wrong. Loved the tour. But it is nice to mix things up a bit.

If we are going to have the hits then there needs to be a place for Everywhere. I was sceptical about it based on past performances but it turned out to be one of the highlights for me. An absloute must do. Swap that for Say You Love Me and Why for Love In Store.

Assuming that they release a new album before they tour again, I expect that the next tour set list will be the same as the OWTS set list, with only a few modifications:
I Know I'm Not Wrong/ Bleed to Love Her will be replaced by a new Lindsey song.
Over My Head/ Think About Me will be replaced by a new Christine song.
They'll do a new Stevie song in the spot where Seven Wonders was (for some reason, I think they'll keep Sara in the set).
What else would they change? The Rumours era songs aren't going anywhere. Tusk, I'm So Afraid, Rhiannon, Say You Love Me, acoustic Big Love, and Landslide aren't going anywhere. Maybe they'll replace Gypsy or Everywhere. I don't want them to get rid of Little Lies, which was my favorite part of the last tour.
My personal "wish list" songs would be: Hold Me, Isn't It Midnight, Angel, Blue Letter, Eyes of the World, That's Enough for Me, and any of Christine's Tusk songs.

The way the Stevie sang Silver Springs during the Dance show was incredible. I'll never need to hear it again.
For me, it captured everything I loved about B/N. And then with Christine's piano and harmony. It had so much passion and every lyric was kept in the moment by Stevie. Further, Lindsey and Christine worked so well off of Stevie with vocals and piano/guitar.
Every other performance that I've seen is always second.

That was a revelation. She nailed it and the band nailed it. Everything worked. I've rarely seen her embody passion and vocal control so well before or since.
I remember when I first saw the taped show. When that song was through, I leapt out of my chair and cheered. It was so spontaneous. I felt sheer joy that something great had been accomplished.
I also remember being wowed by You Make Loving Fun, and really digging the new arrangement of Say You Love Me. I also loved Temporary One and Bleed to Love Her. But it was Silver Springs that stole the show.

The band was rocking during the SYW tour. Fleetwood Mac often steams ahead with real purpose when they have a new album to promote. Even though they didn't do a hell of a lot of SYW songs on that tour, the new material seemed to give them an urgency almost entirely absent in the two subsequent tours--and even in this On with the Show celebration. This is precisely why I want to see a new album from them before I ever see them on the road again. The new music will undoubtedly light a fire under them. That's always exciting to see....

When talking to Mick at a meet and greet, he commented that the person who has weathered the best, talent wise, was Lindsey. He said that it always amazes him how Lindsey can be on stage 100% of the time during the concerts, never take a break for long, and keep on "screaming at the top of his lungs, and keep his voice intact." I think those were his exact words. Maybe this last tour was just too much for the guy though?

When talking to Mick at a meet and greet, he commented that the person who has weathered the best, talent wise, was Lindsey. He said that it always amazes him how Lindsey can be on stage 100% of the time during the concerts, never take a break for long, and keep on "screaming at the top of his lungs, and keep his voice intact." I think those were his exact words. Maybe this last tour was just too much for the guy though?
I have to agree. I brought a friend to one of the shows and the highlight of the show for him was watching LB. Amazing energy.

Lindsey's no spring chicken but I think this tour caught up with him. To be fair, a lot of his vocal work is 'shouty' so I can understand why he struggled. Christine started dodgy and then got better and better until the end of the Eurpean tour. Dont forget, they cancelled a couple of UK shows due to her voice problems and her singing at the Isle of Wight festival sounded quite poor. She was back on song for the London show I caught and it seems her voice for the Aus/NZ tour was great too.
Album:
I had to go back and look at the confirmed song titles; Carnival Begin, Red Sun and Too Far Gone.
If anyone is aware of any others I'd love to know.

This will either be the best thing we've been dreaming for for years, or the saddest money grab since the last time an ancient band ran out of fuel. I hope for a Say You Will with some Christine added.

Oh come on now. With the record industry today there is no money grab with a studio album. But I'm with you....I still have to pinch myself we are going to hear Christine McVie new songs! Say You Will is a pretty high standard. I just cant wait to hear Christine on every song or at least her influence on every song.

First of all, it's fantastic to see you posting again!
But yeah, I pretty much agree. However, I don't hold any hope of a new album being artistically palatable the way Say You Will was. Lindsey is steering the ship, and the songs he has released since Seeds We Sow have been middle of the road garbage. If you haven't heard Fleetwood Mac's Extended Play or his songs from the This is 40 soundtrack, do look them up. I think Lindsey is trying so hard to be mainstream in order to appeal to Stevie that he's totally lost his muse. With Christine being the poster child for inoffensive pop music, and Lindsey and Stevie racing to the middle of that road as well over the past decade, I just don't see how anything Fleetwood Mac might come up with could have any teeth. It'll all be one giant inoffensive compromise so they can pull off working together one last time.

Word.
I do wish it weren't going to be this way, though. It might sound redundant, but I want Tusk 2.0, but recorded with the foresight that *this is it*. I would hope that recording a final album would be cause for adventure, for unconventional material, for abandoning the formula.

My sentiments exactly. I loved Tusk so much for those exact reasons: it truly showcased just how divergent the 3 songwriters were. It showcased all of their strengths, and juxtaposed how different those were from each other. Yet because of the amount of material from each songwriter, it all somehow hung together. The musical waves would swell, break, recede, and repeat; it wasn't a consistently flowing stream of similar songs. Much more like a movie than a painting, even. :p
That's what I'd love to hear in a new album, too. Lindsey's sonic quirkiness contrasted with Christine's pop goodness, injected with Stevie's airy fairyness. I think Say You Will was born of that same motive, but because of Christine's absence, suddenly Lindsey and Stevie found themselves trying to fill the accessible-pop role. Lindsey recorded What's the World Coming To; and Stevie submitted Say You Will. They both need to vacate that patch of real estate for a new album, and hand those keys back to it's queen, Christine. :D

Hey I was the person in Maui asking about how to meet Mick! Well he had a meet and greet and I went and he's honestly such a nice guy. We talked for about 10 minutes and he told me that I should expect them to be on the road in about 18 months. He said that they were working on new music but as we know Stevie might not take part in it... Anyways not really a scoop but I wanted to share my experience!

Feeling a bit deflated. 18 months is a long time. Not that I am desperate for another tour but I can't see them releasing music without a tour on the horizon. It's looking like the album being released in the first part of 2017. 'Much to come in 2016' ...I can't really see what band-related stuff could happen this year apart from more 4-piece recording of an album that's already largely done.
Everytime there#s reason to be a bit excited about a snippet of information something else comes along and puts a damper on it.

i don''t know. 18 months seems almost too fast to me. yes, we expected they will tour in 2017 because of the Rumours anniversary. and it will probably be more fall/end of 2017 (just like LB said they will start OWTS tour in summer 2014, but they started it at the very end of September).
so before OWTS they had almost 9 months to work on the new album. everyone here kept saying that was not enough time for SN to join etc. so now they have double that time, and album mostly done. i wonder how long before everyone says that's not enough time for Stevie since she will want some solo projects etc etc.... and we -- again -- don't actually see that album?
so frankly, tour in 18 months if we actually get that album before that, and that tour is to support it, seems almost overly optimistic to me - considering Stevie's timelines with FM [non] commitments we've seen in the last few years.

18 months is too soon and it makes me feel a bit deflated like they are still more interested in the touring money than in making music. Because if they plan to tour in 18 months, I have to think that it's going to be a shortcut album. At this point, "EP" sounds like an expletive to me. I want a full album, fully fleshed out album.

In ten years SYW will stand out as a topheavy but basicly the only album that went for the artistic innovative stretch in their legacy since 75. Behind Tusk, that is.

I agree.Alot of cash for touring and a handful of cash from album sales.I think the scale is weighing in on the touring side. They could atlease try some new tunes to feel out the crowd to see if they like the new tunes.Thats what they should of done on this last tour.

yes.
because this last one, if it ever comes out, won't be it. we've heard Lindsey saying numerous times he was going for fleetwood mac-y, middle-of-the-road tunes and gave up on pushing the boundaries with the mac. his EP songs, however great or interesting, are along those lines too.
just to think that "fleetwood mac-y" album could have been out by 2013 the latest, and they could have had another one in the works and almost done with Christine now......... what a waste of time and talent, all that waiting around for one or the other member to come to the table.
plus, most FM fans don't like SYW, and only just recently warmed up to Tusk. they are doing their current album for the majority.
My guess is the album will drop in the summer and a fall tour will follow.

I'm not saying I don't like Say You Will at all.
I like much of Lindsey's work on there except
his vocals seem a little tired on some of the songs.
Stevie's the culprit here. Except for Goodbye Baby,

I rarely listen to the album anymore.

I listen to SYW more than any other Fleetwood Mac album, with Tusk a close second. While objectively I would never say it's their *best* album, it's easily in my top three favourites for listening to. I usually skip Silver Girl and occasionally skip What's The World Coming To? but I pretty much like it as a whole.

I was thinking about this as I was driving today, I really hope if there is a new album Stevie is happy and actually sings the songs. If she uses her voice properly - like on Moonlight, Twisted and (especially) 24 Karat Gold, it's still a stunning instrument. If she just shows up and doesn't really try, her voice just sounds awful and bored.

That leaves them room for contrived, high gloss material like Rumours.

They do have amazing chemistry. I love it when they get really creative and play around each other. I love how much they respect each other too. I once heard Lindsey say they play so well together because they come from opposite spheres. She is trained, he was not. She was heavy in the blues, he was more from folk and rock. But most important is how their voices blend together. Hold me, Don't Stop, Think About me.....they blend so well together that you sometimes forget there are 2 people singing.
I heard Stevie say once that she actually got jealous of Lindsey working with Christine when they sung World Turning on the White Album.

Perhaps the recent passing of some of their contemporaries (if you can call them that) such Lemmy (70) and David Bowie (69) will serve as a catalyst for them to put their foot down a bit more.
(a metaphorical foot down on the accelerator as opposed to putting a foot down with SN- though that could work too).

They have nothing to lose but time. I think they should make a fantastic album of risk with a few hits scattered in the mix that make sense. Yeah, Don Felder was just the first "rock" guitar player they added(trying to get away from the early 70's country rock sound they had). He is a great player, and took them there. They finally fired him all over him owning shares of the Eagles "brand", which Joe or Tim never owned. He kept asking questions about not receiving his 1/3 of the profits(since only Don, Glenn, and Don Felder owned the BRAND - Bernie and Randy had left the band, and gave up their shares - Joe and Tim came on after it was too big, and weren't offered "ownership"). Don and Glenn(RIP) were tired of him getting that share(completely understandable, IMO, even though I'm a BIG DF fan -yet Don and Glenn were the stars, not Felder), and yet he kept nosing around with attorneys, and they found a way to fire him.

I'm so glad she's back. It's so funny how we all differ. Even though FM has always been the soundtrack to my life, Glenn's death REALLY threw me for a turn today.
To be honest, I always thought he was kind of a jerk, but he was the mastermind of The Eagles. He WAS the Lindsey Buckingham of The Eagles.
I've spent the past hour listening to the Hell Freezes Over DVD. Not watching it, just staring in an opposite corner, at the wall.
Bowie's death didn't affect me much, nor any of the others, personally. I mean, I felt for them, and their family and fans, but it didn't hit home.
Glenn's passing today, made me realize what's coming. For all of them. And eventually, for all of us. I felt like a part of my childhood died today.
Sorry to sound so sad.
