Why would they do all the work that building a bridge requires when they can make millions by being a touring oldies jukebox:shrug:

the frustrating part is - they already did put all that work in and built most of the bridge. but it seems to be a bridge to nowhere.

The Nordic fab four appeared next to each other for a photo at the event in Stockholm for the first time since the early 1980s..They will NEVER reunite as a group. They are probably rolling their eyes at the septuagenarian and endlessly touring Fleetwood Mac even now.

Ok looks like this just happened .Singing a line from a song is not the same as reuniting though.I would love for them to make another album as much as I would Fleetwood Mac but I guess neither is likely.

What is the status of the new album? I haven't seen any news since the interviews with Stevie which confirmed that the album was underway, in December or so.

BTW: I'm not sure which forum to post this in. I've posted it here as it's the Rumours lineup. I assume that a moderator will move it to a better location if there is one.

I came back to the forum to see what the state of play is with the new album. After reading the last ten pages here, I'm none the wiser. I guess we'll all have to wait to see what, if anything, happens.

A tour in October 2017 does at least leave time for an album to be prepared for then.

Dolly Parton is out on her Pure and Simple tour to promote her 43rd studio album Pure and Simple cd which has a release date of sometime late summer so anything is possible considering they have lead us to believe Lindsay and Christine have already recorded songs and just need the 2 -3from stevie

You can scroll anywhere in the forum for as long as you like, you will not find anything recent or definitive about a new album.

Instead, the old albums are being re-released as deluxe box sets, and there is a persistent hum about a 2017 tour.

So the likely scenario is a deluxe box of another album or two (TISL, White album...) and then one more big oldies tour.

I check this daily. Nothing new or substantial. Nothing. I used to bristle when Mitzo said "There will be no new Mac album" but now I'm beginning to think that could be true.

I'm worried, too, that any new music we get will be about two or three songs added to the set list for the next tour and that's it.

I'm so deflated. We could all use definitive information instead of this interminable string along.

so this video was posted in the Macnuggets thread. https://www.facebook.com/realmickfleetwood/videos/1084035754952317/

It was posted by Mick 6 hours ago on FB. He's helping to sell a drum with a Rumours motif including the image of him and Stevie on the album cover inlaid in the drum.

But the more interesting part is he talks about making the drum part of his drum kit when FM gets back together to work... A YEAR FROM NOW. He doesn't say if that'll be recording or touring, though it sorta sounds to me like touring.

To quote:

"I have visions...uh, about...actually about a year from now we'll be back at work.. with Fleetwood Mac... and I fully expect this uh, this lovely creature [the drum] to be, uh, doing what it will, uh, do best, which is to be part of my drum kit"

Erm, it appears that my other thread has been merged with this one. I don't want this thread to die, I wanted the other one to disappear, which it effectively has now. Except now, the post that you've just quoted makes no sense any more.

Can we ignore that and go on talking about the new album.

So, no action on the album front likely for another year it seems.

A tour.

Yep. World Tour 2017, baby.

I can hear the logic now (from accountants, managers, etc):
"You have a much more limited window of time to tour before you're all too old. So tour while you can. Everyone knows the money's in touring anyway, so you should rake in the bucks while you can. You can always record until you're 90. And you're not gonna have #1s anymore anyway, so you'd just be recording for legacy reasons-- there'd be no real money in it. Makes more sense for you to tour and make money then you can retire from touring and record all you want til you croak".

I have no issues with them wanting to make money in a general sense, but at some point, you gotta say listen, if Stevie is just sooo tired from big long tours back to back which went longer coz Christine came back, and that makes her too tired to record and too burnt out and she needs a long vacation (all of which she's said in interviews).....why the eff would you blow off recording (where you can take as long as you like, still live at home and not hotels, see your pals, etc etc) but plan for yet another exhausting tour with people who annoy you?? Is money that critical to you still????

Someone recently recommended Paul Stanley of Kiss' autobiography as a decent read. I read through it on my e-reader on a recent flight. At one point he talks about the difference between him and Gene Simmons-- saying that he now considers not just the money but all the tradeoffs required to get the money when they are offered things. He weighs the tradeoff in time away from home (he has small kids) against the money and has ended up turning down touring etc because of it. Simmons however is always blown away that he will turn down chances to make money no matter what. Stanley's response to that is, Sometimes what I have to do to get that money isn't worth what I have to give up. There are things more important to me at this point in my life than money.

Clearly as much as Stevie gripes about the long touring, and the toll it takes on her, she still puts that second to the almighty buck. If there was more money to be made in recording and they were still able to get #1s, then I bet she'd be more willing to record.

totally agree.

She's very competitive. At least with touring they get bragging rights from being on "top ten grossing bands" lists and sell out shows and get lots of media coverage.

That's why I think if recording got them #1 albums or singles, aside from the money, there would be bragging rights and she'd be more interested.

Artistic legacy stuff isn't big and splashy and she's not as interested. As opposed to LB.

I have no doubt that their new album would debut at #1 but I just don't think they're too bothered about releasing it which is a real shame for the fans. I have recently started listening to Say You Will just to get my Mac fix and as fantastic as it is, it just isn't enough to last me another year. I'm scared that people will get bored and they'll lose the younger fans.

Amen! She truly was Green's replacement, as vital to the direction of the band's sound as he was before she was there. Try imagining the band's evolution without her: it's impossible to do so. When she was gone, the band put out one (very good) record, but it didn't feel right.

Anyway, no new music. If it were up to her and LB, there would be. When will she just do another solo album without them?

Considering it took sixteen years to record a studio
album between Tango and Say You Will, I'd say

If I had a worry about the new album, it wouldn't
be it's release date. It would be how good it could

The new songs on The Dance, Say You Will and

Stevie has her solo career too, and deals with FM in spite of having generally had the fewest number of songs on their albums and being marginalized creatively. She also puts up with Lindsey's domineering attitudes. Do not forget the fact that Tango and SYW were originally conceived as solo albums of his that he knew would not sell, so he got the FM team together and used them to make money. Most of his own FM music is totally solo-type stuff that would flop without the FM brand. No doubt Stevie figures she is fed up with being used as the commercial attraction behind the FM albums and tours, while having little real input into what they do.

Thank you for this. I love all of the members of FM (love for Lindsey is marginal I admit) but it is good to hear someone take Stevie's perspective in all of this. I think this is exactly how she feels. It is how I would feel if I were her.

Thats a bit harsh. Stevie has the fewest songs but (without actually adding it all up) probably the most air time on their albums. She needs to cut her songs down to sensible times then she can have more of them. She marginalizes herself creatively in that sense. I think Lindsey has proven he can write commercial songs if he wants to but generally likes being a bit left-field. This is the case with FM but more so on his own. The band was brought together for TITN more for Mick's benefit than anyone else's.

Thats cool that you can revise history and get people to say "right on!". It was not Lindsey's idea or desire to turn his solo albums into Fleetwood Mac albums. It was either the band or the record company who demanded it of him. For SayYou Will, I don't think it was so much that they didn't want a Lindsey album but they really wanted a Fleetwood Mac album (which resulted in The Dance and subsequently Say You Will) and the way to force that was to refuse to release Lindsey's album. Lindsey was never the one to initiate getting the band back together and he's plenty happy with his solo audience. Who needed who?

Will the Sir Rod combo tour did a number on her and ruined her IYD release.I think it was a big mistake going out on tour with him at that time.If she went out with him on a year which was she was not promoting any album .It would be fine if she did tour with him.I did enjoy seeing him live. He's an excellent entertainer. It was bad timing as always.

Considering it took sixteen years to record a studio
album between Tango and Say You Will, I'd say
they're right on schedule.

If I had a worry about the new album, it wouldn't
be it's release date. It would be how good it could
possibly be.

The new songs on The Dance, Say You Will and
then the extended play doesn't bode well for the
new album.

Couldn't disagree more. New music is something to respect and honor, no matter how well or poorly it measures up to a standard now forty years old.

And I loved the new Dance and SYW songs. The EP? Let's just say I was glad they did it.

I do not think we really know whose idea it was to turn Linds's doomed solo projects into FM releases. All we do know is that it happened.

And he was able to simultaneously use Stevie's audience-drawing persona and domineer her.

He was also able to leave the band for a decade and waltz right back in at will, brandishing more unreleasable solo work.

He is the problem.

What's most mysterious to me is Stevie and Lindsey's lack of activity this year. Even after huge Mac tours, they usually jump into either solo shows or solo albums. It's weird to me that BOTH of them haven't had an ounce of activity this year. The optimist in me thinks they are secretly recording together.

I have been wanting to say this for ages, but was too afraid to even breach the subject. Thank you for your bravery! :p

This is so true. Lindsey's condescension toward Stevie and her contributions to FM is well known, despite the fact that without her Fleetwood Mac would probably not exist as it is, and after Rumours, his successful contributions became almost non-existent. It is Stevie who is the one who has consistently returned to Fleetwood Mac despite her solo success, and puts the band before her solo work. After Stevie's treatment during the making of Say You Will (see Destiny Rules), I really don't blame her for not wanting to make an album with a guy who consistently criticizes her work, then releases flops.

lol exactly! makes so much sense, no?

and yes, poor Stevie must have wanted to contribute at least 3 new songs to the EP, same as Lindsey, but he wouldn't let her and relegated her to re-record a single, pre-FM song. ;)

actually, how many really good / musically creative songs has Stevie released that she didn't write some time pre-BN album?

Yes that's it!!!

While on the other hand Stevie has put out 3 (yes three) solo albums since she returned to FM...If the way to get them to record FM records is to refuse the solo projects why have they (WB or FM) not done that with Stevie? Stevie recorded "TISL" just prior to "SYW" (but WB declined LB solo) Stevie recorded "In Your Dreams" instead of going in the studio with FM (like Mick wanted) Stevie even recorded 24 Karat Gold while FM was hard at work recording the as yet and unfinished and unreleased project...Why did WB not tell Stevie "Finish the FM record BEFORE you record another solo album"???

i was thinking about this recently - you know what i love about this place lately? it is balanced! just read through the last few pages in this thread, there are opinions on all sides! there are fans of everyone, not just fans of a single songwriter with blinders on, dumping on everyone else.

i was reading some old threads on the LB board, and while there was lots of activity, there would be one Buck fan there, and 10 chiffs just dumping on both Lindsey and that fan. on a Lindsey board!

Because WB knows that Stevie's albums will be mildly successful.. #5 (TISL +IYD), #7 (24KG) while not #1's, will still sell better than anything Lindsey could sell solo-wise.

That, and 24KG was the last album Stevie had to release to fulfill her contract.. If anything, they told her to release the album quickly so FM could tour and record without that contract hanging over her head. They announced Christine's return at the beginning of 2014, with dates scheduled for later that year. That couldn't have been enough time to assemble, record, and promote a new FM album, so most likely Stevie knew she had to go on the road and wouldn't have time to fulfill her contract if she were to wait.

All that being said, this now frees up everyone from their respective contracts, making the case for a joint effort in the near future.

We know exactly how it happened. They haven't been tight lipped about what went on and they haven't given conflicting reports. He returned at the same time as Stevie and Christine who had both left as well. It wasn't "at will". It was an agreement of 5 people who had all gone separate ways to reunite. And he didn't do it because his solo career was floundering. His solo albums have gotten critical acclaim. Again, you're making up your own facts to try to make a point that has no merit. Well if I'm not mistaken they were no longer under contract with Warner brothers after the Dance. They shopped around Say You Will and released the EP independently. They are currently not under any contract.

The biggest problem with S&L is that they have too much bs history that they keep dragging around with them.

Was Lindsey a total a-hole who was nasty and condescending to Stevie? Yes. Not always, but certainly for some period after the split.

Was Stevie petulant and demanding diva? Yes. Not always, but certainly she's had her moments. "I demand the Presidential suite in every hotel because I deserve it".

etc etc etc.

The problem is, they are locked into their co-dependent dance forever it seems. Everyone else in the band has commented on it. Mick has said it repeatedly and recently --- they do some serious button pushing of each other. Christine said in an interview around the time she was coming back that Stevie and Lindsey realllllllly don't like each other. Mick, in fact, has commented something along the lines of watching Chris and John chatting on the side of the stage all friendly on this last tour and that would NEVER be the case with Stevie and Lindsey, regardless of the act the play onstage. John has even commented that the tension with S&L is very real. Hell, even that no-holds-barred truth-teller Tom Petty said, "They love each other but they also realllllly hate each other".

At this point it feels like they are in a cycle that they'll never really get out of.

We can blame all of them at one point or another for not releasing a complete album of new music in thirteen years.

But the way it stands now, Christine and Lindsey have a lot of songs. These are, supposedly, "profound."

I gave up on new Mac music a long time ago, but now am really really really really pissed because in 2014 we were promised an eventual album. It is two years later and no certain or concrete information has emerged since then. I am frustrated and pissed beyond all measure. Right now, I wish Christine never rejoined and worked on the solo album that she said she was interested in doing if she didn't come back to the Mac. I want new music from her. From her. I couldn't care less about the other two.

The thing is when Lindsey took that break to do his solo music (which is what I assume you're referring to), it's not like the band was going to otherwise record. Stevie was not going to go back in and record another album and then tour it. So Lindsey wasn't keeping an otherwise willing band from recording. In fact, if the band was willing to I think it's been said Lindsey wouldn't have taken that break, but he saw that the band was reluctant to record again so he took an official leave (including from touring which is all they've done since). I don't think it had any effect on their potential recorded output though as Stevie, to our knowledge, hasn't contributed a single new song to the band since Say You Will. I don't think Lindsey has ever been the problem keeping them from following up Say You Will. He's been the main one championing releasing new material.

That's exactly what I was just talking about. Reread my post with that in mind.

To summarize, Lindsey asking for 3 years off, while possibly kept the band from touring, likely did not hinder them from recording because they weren't going to anyway. Stevie was not up for it following Say You Will album and tour and she still isn't up for it.

Well Say You Will was an extension of The Dance. They had done their reunion tour now it was time to do a record, only Christine had left following the tour. It was not a separate reunion. The band has not broken up since The Dance, they've just alternated between doing band work and doing solo.

Lindsey didn't call the band and ask to have his music be used for a new album for Tango. That came from elsewhere.

Stevie has her solo career too, and deals with FM in spite of having generally had the fewest number of songs on their albums
Although she typically got an equal amount of album space, she refused to pair down her songs, hence "I Don't Want To Know" making it onto "Rumours."

Do not forget the fact that Tango and SYW were originally conceived as solo albums of his that he knew would not sell, so he got the FM team together and used them to make money.

Here is Lindsey's statement, issued through his manager. "In 1985, I was working on my third solo album when the band came to me and asked me to produce the next Fleetwood Mac project. At that point, I put aside my solo work, which was half-finished, and committed myself for the next 17 months to produce Tango in the Night. It was always our understanding that upon completion of the Tango album I would return to my solo work. Of course I wish them all the success in the world on the road."

Mick, who went bankrupt in 1984, was pushing hard for a Fleetwood Mac album, to the point where he threatened to get an outside producer. Obviously, that got Lindsey's attention.

As for SYW/Gift of Screws...Let me get this straight: That was Lindsey unloading his solo songs that he recorded with Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, and to a lesser extent Christine McVie onto Fleetwood Mac? Keeping in mind that Lindsey rekindled his personal and professional relationship with Mick, John, and Christine around the time Fleetwood Mac was finishing "Time" (hence Lindsey singing backing vocals on "Nothing Without You) and was basically in the process of splitting up. There was no Fleetwood Mac when the project started. If anything GoS brought Fleetwood Mac back from the grave. Ultimately, it was the label pressuring Lindsey to release it as Fleetwood Mac, since it could have legitimately gone either way. As it is, the songs on the leaked version of GoS have spanned out over several albums, Mac or solo. Implying Lindsey was unloading songs that he recorded with Fleetwood Mac onto Fleetwood Mac is one of the most intellectually lazy things I've ever seen in here.

If they hadn't promised new music and even bragged about it in Rolling Stone two years ago, I wouldn't be upset. I'd have seen them for what they really are: an oldies touring troup.

But they (save Stevie and John) did advertise new music and they did press the point that they were committed to a collaborative new venture. Articles in Rolling Stone (with pictures!) and discussions of the new record while touring....all this. If they'd only shut their mouths and raked in touring money, I wouldn't have cared.

But there's new music partially recorded and there's genuine excitement from two of the band's three songwriters....we came so close to the possibility of a record. And to see that possibility die the way it is dying is awful. At this point, if Lindsey and Christine don't release it as a duo, then they are just as much to blame as Stevie.

I'd have cared. I didn't only get excited for new music when they announced they were working on it. That's exactly what I want them to do. And, as I've said before, I really don't care that Christine is back if there's no new music. It doesn't tug at my nostalgia strings to see them all up there. I didn't even get into the band until The Dance and I was in junior high. Some new music is the only thing that will get me excited in what they're doing.

Funny, I would have thought he main reason Lindsey left FM in the late '80s was that he physically assaulted Stevie. There is ample evidence he is prone to violence and has an uncontrollable temper. All that, combined with his micromanagement of the recording process, and his tendency to fill FM albums with what are basically his solo songs, may make some people think twice about even bothering.

There are plenty of great songs on those albums. And on the solo albums in the mean time (no pun intended).

And why are the other albums ignored? Are you only considering albums that have Stevie and Lindsey both on them, but Christine take or leave?

The new songs on The Dance, to me weren't very
good at all.

Consider in the ten years that passed after Tango, the
best they could do between three songwriters was:

Temporary One
Bleed To Love Her
My Little Demon
Sweet Girl.

The best I could say is that Lindsey's songs were listenable.
And that's not really a compliment. I do like Christine and
Stevie but their songs were horrible. And again consider how
much time had passed - and that was the best they could do.

As far as the albums I ignored, there's a reason for that.
For me there are two Fleetwood Macs. There's Peter Green's
Fleetwood Mac. And Lindsey and Stevie's Fleetwood Mac.

Without Peter or Lindsey they are a rudderless ship. Behind
The Mask and Time proved as much.

I like the 5, but after Tusk there is little that I would wholeheartedly
recommend to anyone that wasn't a serious Fleetwood Mac fan.

Oh, it's hilarious. Lindsey was such a tyrant that Stevie told an audience at one of the last BTM shows that she hoped Lindsey could find it in his heart to work with her someday. Stevie had him produce "Twisted," had him play on two out of three of her last solo albums, and they've made cameos at each other's shows. Clearly she got over any of his past transgressions (and he her's, but I forgot we're not supposed to talk about that).

Lindsey was such a tyrant that Mick split up an admittedly dying Fleetwood Mac to go work for him. Lindsey was so hard to work with that Christine gave him her demos before she officially rejoined.

Lindsey's no saint, and clearly he's gone through a lot of therapy, but they're over it, and have been for a while. We don't know the guy, what he's gone through, or what they went through with him. What we do know is that, for whatever reason that's none of our business, they forgave him and decided that they could work with him. And, it should be noted that they got to a forgiving place before he got there.

I don't know. With the lack of any new information, solo or band outside of the one-off in July, I don't know that they're not working on something as we speak. The silence is deafening.

There could be a lot of reasons that we don't know about for the lack of an album. That having been said, specific situations that happened 30 years ago are probably not relevant to today's situation, since they have worked together in and out of Fleetwood Mac since. The only thing that is consistent is the personality conflict between Stevie and Lindsey that probably goes back to before they even joined the band.

Well, there is. Four-fifths want a new album, one doesn't appear to be convinced (assuming nothing's changed since the tour ended). Personally, I'd rather get a new album without the holdout. She's not on my alternative Tango track listing, and it sounds fine.

no general will aka Nicks cannot write anymore.

unlike Lindsey and Christine, it is pretty apparent Nicks actually wants to be an oldies act, and the best she can do is pretend she is still creative by re-recording 40 yo songs.

If only the band shelved their pestering egos and in house dramas we'd almost have that darn album by now..

Because of this BS there will be no album anytime soon ..

They would rather do another cash grab tour, much easier to put on their fake stage shows for 2 1/2hrs per night, than spend 6 months or more in the studio working in a pertentionally walking on egg shells environment.. They have taken the easy road, less friction & guaranteed more money to be made... At the end of their last tour, i was really hopeful that a new album would be made.. not anymore!!

Hoping they prove us all wrong tho :D

Another Idea of why they haven't said anything is because they are trying to lay low. They took the world by storm for 4 or 5 years in a row like they haven't since 1976. Two of those years because of Chris. This may be part of the make the audience want more silence...dare I say it...before the encore?

Stevie's contributions would include OSOTM and Street
Angel during that time period. Along with FM's Behind
The Mask. There isn't one song I can think of that's great
from any of those albums.

Christine's contributions to BTM and Time aren't exactly
magnificent. As catchy as Save Me is, it's that sugary sweet

Screw this band. Seriously. The least prolific band of all time that got insanely lucky with one very good album in the 70s. Petty squabbles well into their 60s. Because I like their music and still am a big fan of what they have done. I'm not here often, but every time I come back it's the same story. It's like a broken record. Endless cycle of "we're working on an album, this feels great to be back together again" followed by "one of us can't finish the album because our ego is too big" followed by "let's do a cash grabbing tour" followed by "let's give the fans the same 95% of setlist we have the last 30 years" followed by "it feels great to be back together again, let's work on an album". Repeat ad nauseum until one of them drops dead.

I'd be the first person around here to say that I'm not a fan of OSOTM nor Street Angel, but still there's some good to great songs here and there from Stevie in this era:
'Ooh My Love' (her best song since the RAL album and wouldn't be matched until 1997)
'Rooms on Fire'
'Paper Doll'

And though I don't like the original versions of 'Rose Garden' and 'Destiny' on Street Angel, the Enchanted box set remixes reveal them to be pretty damn good songs.

And as far as SYW goes, I'll always be an ardent defender of that album. I like every song on it, but the highlights are 'Thrown Down', which is frickin' incredible, 'What's The World Coming To', 'Steal Your Heart Away', 'Bleed to Love Her' and 'Say Goodbye' and I feel they ar worthy additions to FM's discography.

Christine does not strike me as needing money. This is a fable chiffons and jealous shippers come up with because it destroyed their spotlight!!

That Christine ruined everything!! They were just about to put out a B/N album!!!:lol::lol:

I didn't say that Christine needed money.I said that she is greedy. Mick has often needed money and is even greedier.

I don't think they are greedy. They are simply utilizing what the public will pay. Even Stevie can't resist jumping on that ship. With Christine coming back, the stakes became very very high. Much higher than the 2013 stakes. Look at what happened in London when RUMOURS broke of Christine playing there as a guest. The place went bonkers.

I know I wouldn't turn down millions of dollars to do my art. Would anyone?

Depends what else you have in your life and how much you value that over money.

Lindsey has always valued money (don't be fooled) but he's valued artistic integrity over profits (usually; he's compromised lately re: FM). He's got a family and I suspect if things take too much time away he'd turn down some profits. Christine had simply had enough of the touring and the flying and wanted some personal time and walked away from all the money of a more extended tour and future albums.

The only one not saying no to money would be Mick, and Stevie. I think he's got plenty to live on and with his boat and family taken care of John isn't as grubbing for cash either.

Money's great, and this is a business so it's tempting to get it while you still can, but not everyone does everything solely for money.

What is the status of the new album? I haven't seen any news since the interviews with Stevie which confirmed that the album was underway, in December or so. The guys all fired Stevie. They will regroup later this year at Night of 1,000 Stevies, where they will recruit a new singer with flowing locks and raspy voice.

I understand that but except for those shows where all 3 of them were not there the absence of Stevie has never been tested on a post 1974 Fleetwood Mac tour. As mercenary as this band has become as of late I'm betting it is a chance that they would not be willing to take.

I was concerned about John McVie at the end of last year, I hope he is still doing okay. It's difficult to know because he seems quite a private person.

There seems to be common belief that as artists get older they just lose some of their natural creativity. But I don't think that necessarily has to be the case. I was reminded of this when listening to 'This Is Where I Came In' by the Bee Gees recently. It was one of the last songs they did and they still sounded in great form. They went through a period of being perceived as very uncool in the 80s, but they got through it.

After Elton John went through rehab, I thought he recorded some of his best work in a very long time. Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison also managed some good creative revivals in the latter parts of their careers.

So it can be done. I would love to see FM cut a strong final album to close things out on. Something along the lines of 'Yes we have been through so much but managed to find our way back together.' They still have the musical chemistry when they are live. I enjoyed watching the interplay between Christine and Lindsey at the concert I went to.

But there are definitely still some big egos in the band (in a way, that's to be expected but it's unfortunate if that is going to affect their chances of making a good final album).

When Ken wrote his book I think the most interesting thing for me in it was how it seemed the 5 people in the group were able to fire ideas off each other in the studio and read each other as musicians so well. Even though they were going through so much at the time. It must have been amazing to see that creative process unfolding in the studio.

As for Christine's financial incentive... I thought she was really putting her heart into it last year but remember when she said Stevie had offered her 5 million dollars to join the group again and she replied “Is that all! I’m only worth $5 million?!” Lol.

nice analysis, and i think you are onto something.

consider though that there are 3 songwriters in FM. 2 of them seem to have never lost it - they are as creative as ever, or more. in fact, Lindsey has been cited as one of those rare musicians and songwriters who is getting better with age and worth watching every new release, when people talk about how most artists usually have a creative phase, and then just coast for the rest of their carrier.

the problem is, that creativity of the 3rd songwriter in FM seemed to have reached a peak long long time ago, and she's worried she will look bad in comparison to the other 2. or she in general has no interest in being creative anymore, and instead is just (very successfully!} working on shoring up her legacy.

Lindsey once told me he doesn't believe she cannot write good music anymore, that she was too good for that, and wishes she would see that.

so it comes back down to band politics, because 3 songwriters might be a blessing, but might create bunch of problems too..

Mick, who went bankrupt in 1984, was pushing hard for a Fleetwood Mac album, to the point where he threatened to get an outside producer. Obviously, that got Lindsey's attention.

Who knows? Maybe the MIRAGE reissue was pushed back to piggyback with the new album? Big releases put out on the spur of the moment are kind of the big thing right now....I could certainly see FM following in these footsteps, especially since it will (more than likely!) be with a new label!

The release date for Mirage has nothing to do with a possible new album. It just isn't that unusual for albums to be postponed a few weeks. If anything, they would stagger the two albums further apart from each other, not the opposite.

Maybe, just maybe they realize it won't sell...When Rihanna can only sell less than 1000 physical copies of an album, why waste the time/money to produce an album that won't sale? In this day and age I see PLENTY of albums online before the actual release date...but I think an old act like FM would have a harder time in the modern day of competing for a slice of the pie which is the market. The days of gold/platinum album sales are over for acts that are pegged as an "oldies act/nostalgic act".

Would I like to hear a new album? Would it stand up against what they have already recorded? Who knows with this band...I used to be a big flag waver for this band, but the lack of new studio material has killed those days.

"According to the New York Times, Nielsen said that Anti sold fewer than 1,000 copies in what was a very short first chart week, although a source with access to the sales data said its total sales were a minuscule 460. "

Did you expect them to say "well we were just in the studio and it kinda sucked, come see us on the tour!" Of course they are going to say it's good, especially when a big tour is coming up. Or they THOUGHT it was good and upon looking back they realized maybe not. BTW I liked the EP but many people on this board didn't. Before it's release they went on and on about how good it was.

I bet more than anything that this is about the vinyl pressing places. All the respectable vinyl presses are SO backed up because of the traffic. A lot of artists can't get the LP versions of their records out until a month or so after the release dates they put out months beforehand (and the problem is only becoming more compacted with each week that goes by). I'd say they just couldn't get the production done in time.

Plus - if they are planning a new record - a re-release would be some good early promo to get the band back on everyone's minds ;)

Well then they will have to have a large operation tasked with keeping it quiet. I just don't see them going through that much trouble. Such a release would also have to be digital only, at least initially, and I don't think that will happen either. That would be alienating their aging audience.

Indeed. When it comes to this band, as with most things in life, I tend to be a firm believer in Occum's razor: the simplest answer tends to be the correct one. So which is simpler: Fleetwood Mac is secretly recording a new album, keeping every single person who encounters them from spreading it on social media, while also avoiding the press, and even their own fans? Or that the album has simply been shelved, and the band members are enjoying some quiet time after 3 solid years of touring. The answer is pretty easy to me...

I'd be happy with this. It probably won't happen, but I'd be happy if it did. The only thing I'm counting on is that Christine gets annoyed and restless if she doesn't have an outlet for songs she believes should be heard. (I'm extrapolating this from an interview she did eons ago and from the fact that she, according to a recent interview is invested in the stalled project because so many of her songs are on it.) If FM doesn't release the music, there's a chance she and LB will release it separately. It's a distant possibility, but...

I was just reading how the Eagles 'Long Road Out Of Eden' took six years to produce. They clearly knew it was their last music together, and made it a double-album worthy of their previous legacy work. I believe our Fleetwood Mac is doing something similar if not the same. Stevie will make sure this final album is done properly; they all will. They did not come this far, welcome Christine back into the fold, make new music, and reach 50 years as a band next year just to tour a couple of times. There is a farewll tour with a new album coming from this band. We've had 'Rumours' in 1977, 'Tango' in 1987, 'The Dance' in 1997, and there will be a final album in 2017. I love, cherish, and admire this band. Tons of missed opportunites notwithstanding, the body of work from Fleetwood Mac is massive and has kept me in good stead all these years. I will wait for the swansong of my favorite band to materialize. It always has, and I believe it will one more time.

You have the mindset that this is all planned out and strategized. As if they're all on the same page. I just don't see that being the case. Whatever happens it's not part of some grand plan they've had for the past few years. When they can all agree to work on the album is when it will get done.

Right. Both Mick and Lindsey said several times during the last round of press (before Chris's return), when they were trying to pressure Stevie, that FM is most decidedly NOT the Eagles. The Eagles, they said, were always clear as a band what they were doing next and why they were doing it and were all on the same page at the same time. They noted that FM is not, nor has it ever been, that kind of band.

It's important to note also that Don and Glenn were the clearly identified leaders of the band and everyone else was a hired hand who could be fired if the leaders felt they weren't toeing the line. No such arrangements exist in FM. I'm betting Mick is regretting that now!!

Don Felder probably could've used that information.

Just back to check up on progress. Sad to see that there has been none. I sort-of believe the album will eventually appear.

I think Lindsey has always liked the idea of the band being on the same page and actually productive for an extended period of time I.e in Destiny rules doc when he mentions having a good 3 year run etc. But the pattern really has been one tour with 3+ years between projects/tours. From what we know about SYW, spending a year making that album and a year on the road made for some unhappy times. They don't appear to be able to work together very well for extended periods anymore. By they, I mean Lindsey and stevie. It's frustrating that this band never really has their act together and everything dissipates just as they get momentum.

Why are people saying things like "there won't be a new album," "it must not be good," or "we all know why it hasn't been released yet." I have no idea and vague comments like these only confuse me.

Why are folks so convinced there won't be a new album?

I hear you my freind. Anybody that has been following this band as long as I have knows that this album has not been shelved, Stevie will be on it and it will be released when it's time. I think part of it is when there is no credible updates the speculations go nuts.

I agree .Yes they are.To bad they cant shake the greed factor and play at places for cheap dirt fee or free like other oldies bands and artists do.They dont need the cash.Alot of great oldies 50's,60's,70's,80's artists and bands play for free or very cheap on the town greens in this state. Also at the casinos .Nevermind to mention when the local fair season starts. Most shows are free at the fairs.

Because it's about being ON TOP on their way out. High tix prices, and selling out big venues. Playing 2500 seat venues would be an embarrassment to them....unless they were actual "artists".

That ship has sailed.

And now here's a song about a Welsh witch....

I figure by not most of us know FM works at a snails pace.I think whats done is not shelved but put on the back burner on simmer until they get together to finish it which it could be done already.Dont forget the post production stuff like the CD cover/inside photography and litho and other stuff got to be done to get it released.I think now they are taking a will deserved time off after touring which we should respect them for doing so.

Their next (and probably final) album will happen when it happens. We just have to continue waiting.

Meanwhile, may I remind us that's it July now. We are just a few weeks away from the deluxe reissue of Mirage!!

This is not a reliable source. I know you claim to have an inside scoop but without band acknowledgement that the project is moving forward, believing in such reports is a recipe for disappointment and further frustration.

If or when the band finally acknowledges a timeline, then I'll start believing. We fans have been burned too many times in the past decade by false hopes.

Who me or my good pal Rusty ?

I don't think I've ever claimed to know the inner
workings of the Mac.

But I'll let you in on a little secret that neither of
my pals Rusty nor Alec would like to publicly talk
about. The biggest problem is that one of the FM
band members has too much power.

Wow, reading what happened to Joe perry is scary. Does this band think they have all the time in the world? This ain't 1979 anymore. Touring for 2 years? Really? You couldn't do a 6 month tour and then release a final album? You had to keep adding shows. The La forum had like 7 shows. Did we really need to hear Rhiannon again for the 5000th time?

I was just reading about it...he had to sit on the drum riser looking really, really unwell, then tried to walk offstage and reportedly collapsed... they're saying heart attack, but we'll see. He's 65.....younger than most members of FM.

This is the only thread I really follow because at least the talk is about new music even if there is no new music to talk about. I'm kind of talked out on all other Fleetwood Mac topics.

Not only is it 50 years since they were formed in July '67, it is 40 years (yes its unbelievable) since "Rumours", 1977.
I said yonks ago that 2017 made sense, but even so they should have given us a hint, by now.
I also agree with previous posts that this is all becoming a bit boring but addictive, too.

I'm not even hoping for that anymore. Anytime I get my hopes up, They get crushed by the awful reality.

And even if the band did do something for its 50 year anniversary, why wait until then to do it? That reeks of sentimentality and is pure gimmick. Ugh. This band pisses me off. No new album and I'm through. I'm simply not hoping anymore. Just hating. I sincerely do hope that I'm proven wrong, but I'm not counting on it.

And though those albums are deemed commercial failures, they at least represent a band doing what it should do: that is, make new music and attempt to forge ahead.

The current band isn't even accomplishing that.

I think the whole "we're making a new album" was a setup to make them seem more then an oldies act before the tour. I think the village recorder sessions were just Lindsey and Christine getting warmed up before rehearsals. I don't believe anything they say anymore. It all appears scripted to sell concert tickets. "lindsey and I love each other, hate each other, it's a new chapter...." UGH

Things are just too quiet.
Turn the dial to 180 from where they are....
It just might surprise you.
