I heard from a very good source that they will finish up this new album in May, then ultimately tour behind it. As far as a Stevie solo tour goes, there's a slight chance for one this Fall, but unlikely.
Jamie
Thanks for the update and hearing from you. That great news on the album. We can finally put this thread to bed when its done..
I do wish that she will do a couple of solo shows in the meantime.

Hahahahahaha... you don't want to hear her groan through her old catalog, with Dave Stewarts' 80's synths? And then run to the casino to see it?
Git outta mah head!
I want an album that sounds like classic FM(even though Chris is the only one whose voice is close to what it used to be).

I'd rather hear Lindsey squawk and yelp his back catalogue in skinny jeans acapella. And run to the bleachers at the local park to see it.

If there is a tour in the fall, the set would consist of primarily songs from 24 karot gold. I wold put a lot of money on there being less the half the songs being her back catalogue.

I wish they'd start getting some word of mouth out there about it, or hell, at least put out a press release to get some hype going.
Would love a press release sometime in April. I can see a Fall album release and who doesn't think the lead single will be sung by Christine? lol

I was thinking over the weekend how will this new album will get good radio exposure. The Mac got to compete against Bieber and his friends.SYW had great radio exposure when it came out.

Oh yes. It will be a song that will have all three voices very prominent. (Little Lies, Say You Love Me, Love in Store) for sure. It also could be a Buckingham/McVie duet with a lot of Stevie. It's definitely going to have all three of them on it.

Yes That would make sense to have a song feature all voices. But this IS Fleetwood Mac were talking about. They tend to do the exact opposite of what makes most sense.so the first single from the reunited fireflies may very well be the latest Lindsey solo piece in the style of red rover!

Why would there be a press release to announce the intention of or planned recording of a new album? I'm sure we won't get any press release until the album is finished and ready to go. Until then we might get bits of news from various sources or maybe an interview with a band member or two.

I agree.I dont see them having a press conference on releasing the new album. More likely the news will come out on social media in bits and pieces like Dave S has done with Stevie's albums.
They could book the late night shows to perform the new tunes which would be good start to get the word out.

Because then they'd have to commit to something.
Why would there be a press release to announce the intention of or planned recording of a new album?
Some press releases announce an artist has signed with a new label and don't give anything else regarding a release date.
In this case, a FM press release could mention new song titles and a tentative release date for the first single. April may be kind of early, but it all depends on if they plan on a late Summer or early Fall release......or even a 2016 release at all.

I don't think anybody is really expecting press releases at this point, but I DO think folks are expecting to hear a bit more from the band. Most notably, Stevie is STILL remaining totally silent publicly on the subject, which definitely makes all of us fans uneasy. After all, she's the one who will either allow this project to move forward or shut it down permanently.

You know, it never occurred to me until now that maybe she's just not ready to say goodbye (see what I did there?) to the band. Recording a new album + touring means the end would be in sight, and despite her age, she might not be prepared or willing to deal with that yet.

I agree with this 100%. As someone who has extensively studied emotional/mental states and psychology, what I've observed from Stevie is the intense aversion to change (clothes, setlists, albums, etc). Besides that, her attempts at escapism are telling. She sold her house in Phoenix (a city she's lived in for over 30 years!) after her mum passed away, thereby abolishing those memories, and choosing to retreat to her solitude by the sea. She released 24KG, a contemplative, retrospective album that was entirely based on the past... Of course there's so much more to these decisions than what I've mentioned, but I still believe they say something.
My very favourite historical figure, Marie Antoinette, I believed suffered from a very similar state of mind. As France was plunged into turmoil, she retreated to her gardens, creating a world of bizarre simplicity to remove herself entirely from reality, and continued on as if nothing was wrong. She became oblivious to her surroundings, refusing to give in to the demands made upon her, because she honestly couldn't handle it anymore. High expectations and horrific circumstances throughout her whole life led her to dissociate from reality, and I think Stevie has done this, in a slightly different way obviously.
I don't personally know her, but her actions over the last 20+ years are so indicative of her "state of mind".

But isn't this whole thread, "FM Will Record New Album, Says Stevie" based on her most recent public remarks? If she gave a lengthy new interview to someone without saying anything about Fleetwood Mac, that would be alarming, but the last thing she said to the press is completely in line with what Christine said just a few weeks ago.

I don't place any stock in that article, especially considering it was amended to say that Stevie was going to do "several" solo projects before she'd commit to a new FM album. So to me, that's still very far from a firm confirmation or commitment from Stevie. This whole thing will be real to me when Stevie makes some sort of grand, bold, official proclamation which is picked up by multiple trusted news outlets.
^ I respect that, but no other FM member has talked about the new album this year either. There hasn't been talk about a Stevie solo album/tour either so....

I don't remember a time in Fleetwood Mac history that they all stayed this quiet this long after all the news we've received the last couple of years; meaning new songs, Christine rejoining, world tour, new album, etc. (Not to mention the recent passing of so many legendary rock icons...)
So much movement (slow as it was/is), then nothing for months. I can't help but wonder if it is all leading up to the "grand finale/massive media blitz/album (hopefully double album) release/farewell tour/50 year band anniversary, 40 year 'Rumours' anniversary (both anniversaries happening in 2017)"
Someone somewhere must know something about what's coming. I just don't remember this kind of long term silence from the band. Something MUST be cooking somewhere! The speculation is maddening!

Yea .I agree. The muffled sound. Two channels playing at once and no rewind.
Its like having an Ipod with a crappy dollar store muffled sound headset with broken buttons except for the play button.
Reel to Reel tape would be great.Get a copy recorded at 7 1/2 or 15ips tape speed would sound great.

Mick Fleetwood was just on the morning show CH7 promoting his Blues band tour, unfortunately i missed the very start of the interview. They showed lots of photos and some new footage that i haven't seen before from back in their glory years. Talked about the same old stuff, their affairs etc but NO MENTION of a new album.. Did anyone here in OZ catch the start of this interview?

Waiting for the gig to start. Was interrupted a grand total of five times so I didn't get to ask my questions, but a good experience nevertheless. Just at a small theatre so we had the M&G in the foyer area, just sat on sofas and bar stools while he stood in the centre. Pretty noisy so I doubt any audio recording I made turned out.
The one and only piece of 'news' came out of a question about whether FM would tour again. Intending to tour beginning in October 2017, though they really 'need' to before that. Apparently Stevie needs convincing. He talks to Chris weekly. She calls wanting to know when they're going back out. It'll probably be the last tour and go for two years or so, off and on. "Massive."
I wanted to ask a follow-up, clarification of the album situation but I'm not assertive enough to talk over those butting in when I start talking, lol.

The timing makes sense to me. Band members have most of 2016 to do what they want before finishing up the album in 2017 and then beginning the farewell tour and album promotion.

Yeah, we’re planning to go out a little later than I would have liked. I think we’re going to have to work on young Stevie. But we’re going, we’re planning to be on the road in October of ’17. We need that to be a little sooner. Uh, I think it’s crazy touring in the winter… Well, we normally go all over the world, y’know, and I think that will - in our mind - be the last tour. It will be a massive commitment that will last about two years on and off like the Stones when they go out. And I think the girls will have had enough. Although, Christine, who re-joined Fleetwood Mac, and she’s an elder stateswoman - I won’t mention how old but she’s like a spring chicken. I still believe, despite that fact the tour will start later on, that the "big anniversary year" will be successful. They'll probably reissue "Rumours" for the millionth time early in the year (and give us the final scraps of session outtakes or video footage). They might even give us a new 50th Anniversary boxed set, although that is wishful thinking on my part.
And of course they'll release the new album a couple of months before they go on tour. My guess is that summer. 2017 will be a great year for the band! :)

Absolutely. I couldn't agree more. I infer from everything I've read that Mick considers Stevie to be an essential element of the band, but why? I realize she's the most popular individual member (which I could never understand), but even without her the band would still be hugely popular. They need to scale down financial expectations a little, ratchet up their artistic expectations, finish the album with Christine and Lindsey, and go on a shorter tour as a foursome.
Either that or Christine needs to record another solo album (which she could easily do in a month, no fuss) and just go out on her own tour.

I have one thing to say to Stevie Nicks.
Either defecate or get off the karzi. You got what you wanted - Christine came back. Now stop acting like a spoilt brat. What if John gets ill again and doesn't make it before you finally commit?
If you do leave, Fleetwood Mac will be better off without your endless moaning and bitterness - none of your swords and sorcery lyrics can disguise it and you've had all the sympathy you're going to get re Lindsey from this generation of fans.
Enough said there I think.

As far as the bitterness and endless moaning, that is what I hear from haters on here more than anything I ever heard from Stevie.

Well we haven't heard from Stevie much at all, but we can infer that she has been difficult behind the scenes regarding getting on board with the bands (the other 4 who are on the same page) plans.
What do you mean if anybody said this when Christine left? She wasn't holding the band back. She left when she no longer felt she could do it anymore. It's a lot more admirable than what Stevie has been doing. And the difference between then and now is that they're nearly 20 years older and don't really have the time to waste anymore. If it's going to happen, if they're going to put out one last album before it's all over, it has to be soon.

Stevie was pretty vocal about her complaints in that interview for the British press at the end of the American leg of ON WITH THE SHOW. She seemed pretty much over all-things Mac before they even hit Europe.

Trying to see if any of my audio worked out - not the easiest place to record, lol... Thankfully, he answered the question about the tour whilst standing a foot away from me and facing near my direction, so this clip is pretty clear. Exact transcript for you:
She phones me every week now and goes like, “We’re going back out, right?”
This is soooooooooo annoying! First Christine says April 2016 is when the band will likely get in the studio to finish the upcoming album. Then a ledgie in the know says May 2016 is when the band returns to the studio. Now we learn from Mick that the tour to support this album wouldn't start until October 2017?! Does this mean the next record won't come out until mid-2017? Good god. I was just beginning to feel hopeful that it would be released in time for THIS Christmas season. I am so tired of these people!!!! Come on already! Christine is keen. She expressed interest in doing a solo album BEFORE she rejoined the band. That would've been out by now. I'm so friggin' pissed.

Christine during the 1998-2013 period was not a member of the group. They were therefore able to go ahead and do Say You Will when they did with all then current members committed.
Stevie has not officially left the group. What I am saying is she should either do so or stop procrastinating and lay her tracks down (once Mick's back from Australia that is).

thanks for sharing, Nicole. sorry you didn't get to ask your question, and can't believe nobody asked about the album!! hopefully one of the remaining m&gs someone will, and we get to hear about what the response is.
from all this, i can see as the best case scenario (taking into account people we are dealing with and their [no] sense of time):
they may all go into studio apr-may 2016 to finish the album - with Stevie (yes? no? that's the question someone should ask - whether they are really going into studio to finish the album in the next few months, like Chris said, and if they are, is Stevie going to be there too, or they still don't have her commitment).
they'll put that album out fall of 2017 the earliest
they'll tour one last massive, 2-years long tour starting probably spring 2018 (because in these people math that will be close enough to 50 years of rumours and Stevie doesn't want to tour with FM before fall 2017 which takes them for a winter tour start and will probably not happen)

Not necessarily. TITN came out on April 13 and the tour didn't start until September 30, five and a half months later.

My heart sinks at the prospect of yet another massive world tour. These tours really just take them away from recording and creating for, like, years. A big tour means no new stuff from anybody, possibly ever. I hope they make one final album before that tour. But if they do, that is likely to be it.

Not when she LEFT altogether. She made it very clear that she was done, and gracefully gave the band her blessing to continue on without her. She didn't stifle the band.
However, I made a similar comment in 1995, when she had as many songs as Billy, Dave, and Mick COMBINED on the "Time" album, but wouldn't tour. You're either in the band or you're not.
Stevie has toured endlessly for like the last 8-10 years. Give the woman a break.
She chose to do that and got paid accordingly. However, age and illness make this likely the last chapter in Fleetwood Mac's history, and time is of the essence. It's just the reality.

Either that or Christine needs to record another solo album (which she could easily do in a month, no fuss) and just go out on her own tour.

Christine retired from touring in 1990, and made it clear with her lyrics on "Time" in 1995 that she was done. I looked at "The Dance" as an added bonus, like it was her way of going out on top. I doubt that anyone paying attention at the time was surprised that it was Christine who put a lid on that tour.

Can't blame Stevie for FM's lack of studio output...The blame rests squarely on Mick Fleetwood's shoulders ( and possibly the others if it's a group decision )
When you manage a company (yes FM is a company) and you have one employee (band member) disrupting or preventing the other team members from doing their jobs you try and fix the problem and if you can't fix the problem you REMOVE the problem (team member) so the others can be productive again.
If Stevie no longer want's to deal with LB in a studio setting that's her choice. It's also the bands choice to keep recording projects on the back burner year after year all the while hoping she will change her mind.
And why has Mick not fixed the problem? Because it seems he (and the others) would rather maximize the bands touring revenue instead of their creativity.
The band made a record without LB. They also made a record without LB & SN. And they also made a record without CM. So why not one with LB & CM without Stevie?
And is Stevie to blame for the fact that FM's studio output over the last 40 years barely compares to the first 7 years of FM before Stevie & Lindsey were hired.
Does Mick really think FM will be touring in 2020? He said the tour would start in the fall of 2017 and continue for 2 years (and if more dates are added possibly longer) It will be a miracle if FM reaches the end of the next tour (late 2019) without one of them having a health issue serious enough to impact the tour.
I think the others are right and at this stage of the game they need to be realistic with their expectations (times running short) and not try and plan what they will be doing at the end of 2019. By then Stevie will be 71 and Christine will be 76.

I adore Stevie but this is just bulls%t.
Put a wrap on FM and then do whatever the eff you want til in your solo work til you drop.
Enough already.
I would bet money that the managers and accountants and all that are pushing for touring over recording because "that's where the money is".
And is Stevie to blame for the fact that FM's studio output over the last 40 years barely compares to the first 7 years of FM before Stevie & Lindsey were hired.
you know, since there was no social media in the 70s and 80s, it's hard to know. maybe she is.
think of it in the light of all the new info we've been getting in the last few years (since 2009 really) on how Stevie is holding up their latest album for 7 years now already. and still, so many of the long time FM fans are saying it's just how FM is, they take a long time to record, LB is to blame for taking too long with the production etc - when it's so obviously Stevie holding it up. we cannot really discount she was to blame in the earlier years too (solo carrier coming first?), it just never floated on the surface since we didn't have the access to all the info we have now. the only info we had was their promotional interviews.
now about your point that Mick can put an end to it but he / managers want money that's in touring of the whole band over new creativity, that might be easily true. but also, we don't know their contracts. maybe Stevie has contractual power to prevent them from putting out an album without her and it would be a long protracted legal battle if they tried? who knows, hard to tell. there are so many possibilities and so much we don't know.

Money is in touring as I see it and the same for promoters and probably the band. There is no radio outlet for older bands. They cant compete with with Bieber and his young peers.FM always lacks in popping out albums and thats including it members solo works which that is another topic.Other artists and bands pop out albums bi yearly and have no 1 hits from each album.FM only has one number 1 hit to their credit.I cant finger point any of the members of FM of having a low output but I can blame the complete outfit for the low output.I figure by now us fans know this problem with this band and be used to of their slow doings of things.I love to see the band active for years to come and doubt if they pack it in after 2017,2018 or 2019.As we are worried .I do understand the point about their biological clock is ticking away and us fans like to see the last effort of their work. Also I doubt Mick will say anything to fans at his Q&As about the project.I cant blame him for not saying anything and he dont want it to come back and bite him in the a$$.

We fans have every right to be pissed. Two years ago, Lindsey and Christine advertised their new music as "profound" and got everyone looking forward to a new album that would come out after the tour. The tour went longer than expected, and now we're in this limbo, wondering how much longer we will have to wait to hear that "new" music. They sold it to us. We bought it. Without ever hearing it.
The fact is, if it's there and it's nearly done, then finish the damn record and put it out. We've all waited decades. Decades. Enough.

i'm guessing Lindsey must have been giving interviews that he doesn't want to work with FM and wants to go solo? he did release some solo stuff, but only 1 album in that period, in 1984.
meanwhile i'm guessing Stevie must have been giving interviews how she wants to go back to FM and does not want to keep supporting her explosive solo carrier at the time. weren't those her biggest solo years? i'm guessing since Lindsey doesn't want to record with FM she had to keep putting out solo albums in 1983 and 1985, all the while hoping she'd instead record with FM?

I'm dying to hear the new songs Lindsey, Christine, Mick and John recorded. I don't know why they don't release just one or two songs as a teaser. What's up with that? I really want to hear Carnival Begin. I'm trying to guess how the lyrics might go. There is a line in a Human Nature song "Let the carnival begin, every pleasure, every sin" which would fit the theme of Christine returning to the band and touring, but I don't think she would plagiarize another song.
Maybe it could go something like this:
Let the carnival begin
I don't want to miss a thing
I've been gone so long
And now I feel so strong
Let the carnival begin
I no longer live in fear
I'm back, I don't want to be anywhere but here!

Well, when you put it like that...
If there's nothing to tie her in then rather than sitting around waiting maybe Christine will look to do something else...take the lead vocals for AC/DC perhaps. Axl Rose has a similar voice to CM these days.
I'd like to see Christine make better use of her songwriting skills; if Fleetwood Mac aren't going to use them then I'd love to see her write go away and write for a musical.

ah interesting. sounds like yet another one of those "he says / she says" issues. unless Lindsey was claiming he was leaving the band (seems that's not the case, but exactly the opposite?) i'd probably tend to believe more some neutral opinions like that Christine interview where she said Stevie was nowhere around the band at the time.

Ok, it was the Australian 1984:
"Things are better now than they used to be," says Nicks. "In the old days we were angry with each other and didn't like each other. We had to go on stage and play. It was all about dirty looks and not having much fun. That's partly to do with why Lindsey left the band in '83."
"Eighty-seven," interjects Buckingham and, as if on cue, there follows a few minutes of intense discussion between them about just when the guitarist was in the band and when he wasn't.
"But honey, you really left in '83, you only came back to do [the album] Tango in the Night in 1987. You didn't tour."
"No, no, I was in the band until 1987," he insists, and suddenly it's as if only the two of them are in the room. "I was there for the whole thing. I produced the album and then I pulled out for the tour because it was just too crazy."
Nicks gives this a few seconds' thought.
"I thought you pretty much left. Oh, I can't even remember," she concedes.

according to your analysis Stevie was/is hiding from reality in some sort of rich celebrity cocoon, which probably makes some sense.
years between 1981 and 1987 were the most successful and busy re her solo carrier and craziest re her drug use.
Tango has nothing to do with the wait period, it came at the very end of it - they were waiting for Stevie to do Mirage, and sounds like they didn't see her much if at all after Mirage tour through 1984. in 1984 Lindsey was talking about working on another FM record. sounds familiar? wonder what happened??

In Mick's book he writes that he was trying to get the Tango album so they could tour and he could make money. He was broke. He said,
I have to say from the outset, Stevie's people were great. Mick's in a jam, they said. How can we help him? John McVie said he would be there. Christine said she was in. Lindsey Buckingham alone was fairly reticent about FM. He was enjoying his hard-won independence and deep into his own album with Richard Dashut. Eventually we worked to build enough momentum that we were able to convince Lindsey that it might go off without him. When Lindsey said he was in, things went forward. Since Mr. Buckingham was immersed in his own record, we felt it necessary to bring in an outside producer for the first time in years ...
The rest is history. They got the outside producer and pretty soon Lindsey took the helm again.

"Stevie's people"? wonder whether it's still the same, and while the rest of the band members talk to each other, they have to talk to "Stevie's people" instead of directly to her?
i'm guessing this must have been 1985-86? so could it be that after Stevie was away busy with multiple solo albums and tours and couldn't join the band to work on the FM album between 1982 and 1985 Lindsey went off to work on the solo album, at which point some time in 1986 "Stevie's people" finally agreed for her to work with FM? and she spent the whole 2 weeks with them.
btw, i can completely understand if SN/her people decided to put her solo carrier first at the time. it makes a lot of sense. just trying to figure out if that's what happened.
nowadays, it's less understandable if she's putting her solo stuff before the band, since solo she's not very commercial anymore and it doesn't seem to be much of a creative outlet for her. possible explanation may be that unlike for example Christine who loves working with the band and feeds off the others in FM, Stevie might be annoyed with the rest of the band and being around them creates negative vibes for her. otherwise, why wouldn't she take Chris or Linds on their offers to co-write some songs together? i'm still hoping that may happen this apr-may.

Nope. It's Stevie, maybe along with Lindsey, and then Mick, (although to hear lindsey on the last tour before Christine returned Stevie and Mick were in cahoots on stuff about that tour and were trying to force things on him).
It's based on who fills the seats, the biggest name draw, and the sharpest managers. That's Stevie's camp. Like it or not. And I'm not saying it's a good thing..but it comes down to name recognition/money

That may have been true 1998-2013, when the only other person fronting the band had all of three hit singles, Christine returning changes that equation (shown by the increased demand for tickets for the OWTS tour). While Stevie's had a great career and has the most name recognition, a Fleetwood Mac show without Stevie (with Christine and Lindsey fronting the band) would be a bigger draw than a Stevie solo show at this point.
Have to be real here. With the recent deaths of rock legends Glenn Frey and David Bowie, I would think they want to get in the studio and finish this (likely final) FM album. So tired of tours at this point.

well sure, a FM show without any one of them would always be a bigger draw than any one of them solo these days.
But solo, Stevie would draw a bigger crowd than Christine. Not saying that's fair, but it's true.
And being such a big draw solo for so many years has given Stevie leverage within the band. The 'band politics" Lindsey always refers to.
An album without Stevie will not sell the same as an album with Stevie. Again, rightly or wrongly.
She still gets the biggest cut. She still gets to make demands and hold the band hostage if she wants. Hence they are holding off on an album because of her, even with Christine back. If Lindsey and/or Christine or Mick and John were the "boss" as the OP said, the album would be happening and they'd be able to force Stevie's hand to do it now.
I think her priorities are backwards, but maybe others disagree. Tours are nice, and they sure line your pockets, but they evaporate. If you're concerned about your musical/artistic legacy, an album does more for that as a lasting artifact for decades to come than a tour which evaporates in thin air. (yes you can video it, but really, who needs more video of the Mac doing the same old songs?)

I have to disagree. She can only do what they let her do. They are choosing not to force her hand.
On the other hand, I agree with you about the tours. If they want to make the most of their time, they should focus on recording. New albums can be made in a few months, while a tour takes a year and a half. I wish they would finish the album this spring, promote it with a few high-profile TV spots, and maybe a one-off concert for pay TV, and then go off and do solo stuff for a while.

I agree 100 percent Michele.Touring is the cash cow.Why bother with albums that dont sell this day of age Only us handful of fans will buy 4 copies of it and probably wont hear a peep of radio airplay from it.To clear myself on anybody thinks that I dont want them to record.I say NO.I want a freaking bloody album too.

For whatever my two cents are worth... I think they are crafting like FM only knows how to do... Slowly. These are the people that have a rather short, given the years, however substantive album catelog. I really don't think they are going to hastly put something together. Regardless of SN amd LB's working relationship, she knows the magic he does to her songs - that FM thang. It just might be very important to them to put out "a cherry on the sundae" kinda album, regardless of album sales. Lindsey might agrue that point. It's about legency at this point. If it takes a little bit time, so be it. And stretching out the costs, is less painfull.
Besides, I wouldn't be surprised if we got a "making of" kinda doc also. The editing of that will take some time. The album "package" will take time. I just don't see them going out small. And big, takes time...

I'm not sure they do. I was just making the point about Stevie as a draw.
I hope they aren't focusing on album sales, coz by now they should know better.
Touring behind a new album of new music which adds to your legacy in a more lasting way is really the only way to tour again, IMHO. Who needs another golden oldies tour. But I suspect that's what we'll get.
Maybe Stevie thinks her artistic legacy will come from one more solo album. And FM is her financial legacy.

well, ok, fair enough.. they let her get away with it so she gets away with it.
But who knows how the contracts are written? Who knows who has to agree to what before things can be done? Knowing Stevie's team I'm sure there's all sorts of stuff in there.
What scares me is how she was always going on about the whole "we have to go away for 3 years and do other stuff and then come back again"....I hope the hell she's not trying to work that angle this time. Who knows who'll be around still in 3 years.

I don't think that's necessarily true. A solo Christine show would have the novelty element to attract a crowd. People would be interested because there have been no Chris solo shows in over 30 years.
Look at how many people went to see FM last year just because Chris had rejoined. I think she's a bigger draw than a lot of Stevie fans like to admit.

It's very hard for some people to swallow that Christine gave the band it's breath of fresh air and brought so many fans back. I think 2013 would have been the last tour if she had not come back. The numbers were good, but with Christine they went through the stratosphere.

you know, i'm starting to think that now too. for a long time, i thought it was just that they are unwilling to outright fire her, and also that they wanted to make sure they can still have these huge cash grab tours. and i'm sure there's a lot of that in their thinking.
but especially reading that "Stevie's people" quote, it got me thinking maybe there's something contractual that's stopping them from even considering releasing the album they almost have in the can as a FM if SN is not on there; that it's not all emotions, love and cash grabs.
last week's episode of Vinyl had a plot line about Elvis doing Vegas shows and basically not getting to make any career decisions on his own, being a bit like Colonel Parker's puppet. got me thinking about "Stevie's people" and how does decision making go in her camp. and Lindsey's recent lyrics about not getting through to the person behind her current facade ("It may be you don't remember me but I remember you"). and somebody here analyzing SN and saying how she doesn't live in reality. convoluted i know... and probably doesn't make much sense.

makes sense to me and I'm a huge Stevie fan.
There's the mythology and romanticized version of being in a band that performers like to perpetuate (and Stevie in particular) but it's a *business* a nitty-gritty, down and dirty dog-eat-dog *business* once you get big and famous. It's not the same thing as a bunch of people who like each other getting together anymore. A lot of FM fans though don't want to see beyond that facade-- and the band (most of them) don't *want* us to see that side. But it's there in force in this band. Lindsey is the only one who really alludes to it with his refs to "band politics" and such. But even he walks a thin line :sorry: because if Stevie's feathers get too ruffled it makes everyone's life hell. I will go don my suit of armor now for the onslaught.

You are so right. People think that what they do on stage is indicative of what they do in their personal lives and that couldn't be farther from the truth. It's all a business and it's art. And while they do have a musical chemistry between the five of them, they don't hang out or have relationships beyond touring and studio.
The politics has indeed been there since 1982 ish. And you better believe the words were said, "well if I don't get my way, I'm leaving!!" and that sentence was said over and over again. I often thought when Christine left it was in part because of the politics. You can only handle so much immature behavior. And Christine don't play.

Of course every artist hopes for their work to be received well and become commercially viable. But we're talking about a world-wide, esteemed fifty-something year-old band. I believe they are well aware of their place in today's market. They shouldn't expect the chart-busting sales from days past. However, given this significant circumstance (where this will likely the last new music from such a historic band), it's reasonable to assume the album will succeed in major markets throughout the worl. I hope the music on their farewell album is approached with less emphasis on trying to be being current/commercial, and more about being seamless/timeless. They really have nothing to lose now.

But solo, Stevie would draw a bigger crowd than Christine. Not saying that's fair, but it's true.
Well of course. Stevie was able to create a career independent/outside of Fleetwood Mac, thanks largely to hit duets with Kenny Loggins, Tom Petty, and Don Henley. Christine and Lindsey didn't do that. Christine's public persona is especially enmeshed with Fleetwood Mac, hence why, regardless of her relative lack of name recognition, ticket sales were so much higher with her than without her.
And being such a big draw solo for so many years has given Stevie leverage within the band. The 'band politics" Lindsey always refers to.
Except that her popularity as a solo artist has waned over the past decade. Yeah, she had more leverage between 1998-2013, when the only other person fronting the band only had three hit singles. That's not the case now.
An album without Stevie will not sell the same as an album with Stevie. Again, rightly or wrongly
The days of hit records are long behind them, Stevie or no.
She still gets the biggest cut.
Source?
She still gets to make demands and hold the band hostage if she wants.

Stevie lost a lot of leverage with Christine's return. The band can easily function without her. They'd rather not, because that five-piece is a rock legend, but Stevie and her people would be wise to humble themselves a little.

This arguement always seems to come up and I'm not sure why because as a five-piece band they are fantastic and we should just be grateful that they are still here and in fine shape.
BUT. The fact is, if Stevie Nicks left the band there is no way that the band would sell as many concert tickets or albums. And that is not opinion, that is fact. Now let's not bring this up again because it's pointless!

Why? Because, for a decade and a half, we've heard nothing but how Fleetwood Mac couldn't function, how it would be "Time 2.0" without Stevie.
Yet the most recent tour calls that into question.
Nobody is saying it would be as major without Stevie. However, it's now possible without her.
BTW, if Stevie went on ET and said something about recording a new album with Fleetwood Mac, there wouldn't be an issue.

The point is to have the new album, not how it affects the tour. I'd rather have a new album then hear a few extra old tunes, or any old tunes, in concert. The top priority for me is to get new music from this group before they call it quits.

The point is to have the new album, not how it affects the tour. I'd rather have a new album then hear a few extra old tunes, or any old tunes, in concert. The top priority for me is to get new music from this group before they call it quits.

Yes yes yes yes yes. I am so sick of this band rehashing its story, glorifying music that is decades old. Sure, I love that music, but they seriously need new stuff. I can't believe it is so damn difficult for them to get their collective act together. When I consider how much new material acts like Bonnie Raitt have out out since 1995 I get nauseous thinking about the years and years that have passed with little-to-no progress on new Mac music.

Let's hope not. , but maybe the loss of so many of their friends and colleagues they make a firm decision to carry on properly, or end it and enjoy life and do their own thing
well, if anyone was wondering whether FM was in the studio -
Mick was in Aus / NZ (possibly in the studio with Neil Finn some of that time) and Lindsey has also been in the studio for the last 2 or so weeks, but not with FM - with Empire of the Sun.

They are rotting on a shelf. Artistically speaking.
Why, don't they realise...given current climate...that anyone of them, could pop off any time.
They are all in the seventyish area..
Then they would not be recording as FM...it would be FM minus one.
Or not at all, if their recording company sees fit.

Before now, I never was one to beat the drum of "they only have so much time left"... but my favorite musician, Prince, died last week, and just a couple days before that happened, I was anticipating the next time I was going to see him in concert, thinking he would be in my town in a matter of months (or weeks!).
Releasing new music is not a priority for Fleetwood Mac. Either that, or they are in major denial about their ages, or both.
I hope that Christine will release another solo album, while she is still here and in good health. And that Lindsey will too, followed by a Christine & Lindsey tour of small theaters.

Why would Lindsey and Christine be more exciting than Lindsey, Christine, Mick and John? There's no better drummer and bassist they could work with and with them they are Fleetwood Mac. The new material I'm sure had a spark in large part due to the rhythm section.

I don't believe John was there. And I think Nicepace is referring to the articles where both LB and CM stated how magical it was to work together again. They weren't sure how it would come off due to the long break between CM and FM.

Don't we deserve more than hoping to "hear something"? These people drive me nuts! But then quit the damn band and everyone else move the eff on. New music. Nothing else is real at this point without that new music.

Christine was into co writing, so I don't see why Stevie can't collab with someone she can bounce ideas off of, like say Adele, and come up with something that ups their game.

I think you are right in the fact that Stevie would absolutely co-write any new Mac tunes before she brings them to the band. However, I can almost guarantee you that she would chose Dave Stewart since that is her comfort zone.

I'm inclined to agree. Even if Stevie were to be co-writing songs with Dave Stewart to prepare for the album, word would get out. More than 6 months have passed since the Mac tour wrapped, and that still hasn't happened. It's beginning to look like the new Mac album is indeed dead in the water.

No, I think they ran their mouths on social media as you put it to create a groundswell of expectation to put pressure on Stevie to get onboard with an album.
I love Mama but she's the one holding it all up, NOT the rest of the band.
I get that she might feel like needing a break after a massive world tour, a tour that she/they didn't initially expect to be doing and wouldn't have done if Chris hadn't asked to come back. But there's no clear sign there is any new material being created by her or culling thru the vault for material for hte album or whatever.
Mick and Lindsey used the media to pressure her previously, but it clearly has failed this time, and sadly, may even be causing her to dig in even harder.

Yep, exactly as you say.
I think the Mac and its members should of kept their mouths shut and kept quiet about any new album when Christine came back with them.I
why?
they shouldn't be talking about it to spare few fans some anxiety? it's not like we wouldn't be still complaining why are they not putting out any new music if they didn't talk about the possibility!
the only difference: we wouldn't know Stevie is the main roadblock.
most Mac members want that new album even more than we do. talking about it was their way to try to arm-twist band member who was reluctant. it worked before. it is possible it will work again, although on much slower timescale than anyone would want. maybe we will get that "new" album eventually.........

Yea I understand what you are saying .The reason why it would be a good idea if they were hush about it and it would keep the worry wart fans off their backs everytime they pop up at events. It must be a pain in the neck for them when fans keep asking them over and over again when the new album will be released.

I was so excited in April 2014 to read about four band members being in a studio in Los Angeles. I even remember reading that Lindsey and Christine had signed off on some songs.
Now it really annoys me how the band members are so blaze about the new album. It's all right for Christine to throw around release dates that never eventuate. She has heard all the new songs. Obviously she has heard her own songs but she has also been lucky enough to hear all of Lindsey's new tracks. I'm sure Stevie, the person preventing the new music from being released, has also heard or at least receive an offer to listen to the new songs.
This is getting ridiculous. They have spent so much money and so much time and effort has gone into crafting songs for a new record, but the current situation is that the songs will sit on the shelf never to be released. If we're lucky, two or three years down the track, Lindsey and Christine will each release solo albums at age 70 and age 76. I honestly think that's the best we can realistically hope for.
The mooted 2017-2018 world tour will be another Greatest Hits Show. If we are really lucky and I mean incredibly lucky, in the 2017-2018 shows they will play two new songs, like they did in 2013 (Sad Angel and Without You). If pigs fly, there will be three new songs, including one from Stevie.
I'm not holding my breath anymore. If you do that with this band, you suffocate and die.

Skin crawl moment of the night.
At least this so-called 'Mama' (who the f4ck started with THAT? [barf-icon]) is neglecting her own 'family'.

I just can't call her that.
Now, I'll call her other names.

Maybe Stevie has heard the new tracks FM's been working on and doesn't think they're good enough. I hope that's not the case.

More than likely it's the other way around, ie: Tango In The Night, Cheaper Then Free...

I don't think that's how it works anyway. And if it were I doubt she has a better ear for quality than both Lindsey and Christine combined.

"Mama" is a term that gets used at times to refer to Stevie, yes, by her fans. Not because we wish she gave birth to us, thankyouverymuch.
Per Urban Dictionary:
TOP DEFINITION
mama
a very attractive woman
OR:
mama
A mama is a strong matriarchal figure who rules with an iron fist all of her extended family and almost anyone from the neighborhood who somehow gets near any of it. The stereotypical mama is a large voluptuous black woman with a powerful voice and a dominant personality. Her mere presence can defuse a tense situation and bring a castrating truce to male-generated violence. The mama is not afraid of confrontation as she's seen a lot of **** in her life, and as she's seen almost everyone around her when they were still in diapers. A mama's words can neutralize several guns at once, and, when scolded by a mama, even a feared gang leader shrinks back to the status of a child and may be seen hanging his head in shame.
In other words, she's a don't-push-me-around-coz-I've-seen-it-all tough broad who's earned her place as a legend the hard way and she was the chick every guy wanted to be with in her heyday. In other words, she's a mama. Oy.
cool, thanks for those quotes, i learned something!

sounds more like Christine in Mac's heyday, no?
[wine in the face "do not ever do this to this band again!"]
too bad Christine doesn't seem to exert that kind of power over the band anymore. we'd have that album in our hand already if she did!

No.
Mamacita maybe but not Mama.
It ruins her allure.

Didn't Stevie refer to herself as mama?
So, did she say that because fans affectionately refer to her as mama or do fans refer to her as mama because she called herself that first?

No.

The two are used interchangeably. Except one is necessarily spanish.
Sometimes I don't understand the things people here make deals out of.

I've never heard anyone refer to her as "Mama," nor have I ever called her that myself. It doesn't make much sense to me to call her that.

I didn't think it was offensive or anything. Just a wee bit strange.
