I think Stevie was honestly already committed to the idea of recording another solo album before all this Christine business.
If they still can't get Stevie to record, out of desperation they could always mention in an interview that Stevie refuses to work with with them and it's her fault there's no new Mac album then just let the media and the fans guilt trip her into recording.
Obviously the quality wouldn't be there, but it would still be a FM record featuring Stevie Nicks.
I wouldn't want that though. I wish Stevie could find some inspiration for Fleetwood Mac. Their late 70s/80s sound is VERY in right now in certain aspects of pop music. If Stevie could just find that passion for the band, they could do some brilliant stuff (and maybe land some Grammy nods).
I'm optimistic though. The band's phrasing still makes it seem like Stevie's still on board, they're just waiting for her to get done with prior engagements - - not that they're unsure if she'll even do anything at all with them.
Exactly!!! I don't know why people are having such a hard time with the concept of Stevie having planned a solo record BEFORE it was known that Christine's return was true...Consider this..If Mick knew that Stevie was still against recording with FM don't you think Mick would have used that opportunity to take a shot at Stevie in the press when they were interviewed recently...Where's Stevie? Mick: "Stevie feels it's more important to be working on a solo record instead of the first Fleetwood Mac record in 27 years where all 5 are together again"...

i don't know if it happened there too, but there were several posts here deleted last night, mainly directed at Christine and her fans i think. my understanding is that was because of
The user was calling the so-called "anti-Stevie" people idiots and jackasses, talking about how stupid we are for paying for the tickets, while saying stuff like how we can't wait for drama queen/diva Stevie to die. Paraphrasing, of course. I responded to that user before his rants were deleted. People!

It's not a hard concept to grasp, there's just no evidence that that's the case. Although, Stevie certainly talked about working with Dave again, she never indicated anything was actually in the works. On the horizon, but not on the schedule. She's done quite a lot of interviews in the last months too.

A while back she said she still writing with Dave, sending him stuff
Obviously they had 15 songs completely worked out before they went into the studio.

Oh, come on. They were MUCH more thoughtful. Lindsey was considerate enough to think about it and suggest that if she wanted it to 'flow' out over the whole area than the mantle would be more suitable than in the doorway! :D
it always sounded to me like Lindsey said "you can put it in YOUR area" i.e., her room where she ended up putting up her art and hanging out when not needed (she did some of her interviews there in the doc… like when she was talking about everyone wanting all of Lindsey's dreams to come true) or on the mantel (maybe it was Mick who mentioned the mantel I forget)

Family Man is one of the worst songs Fleetwood Mac ever recorded, right there with WISYA. Its placement on the Very Best of Fleetwood Mac is inexplicable.

I think to be fair to Steve - it has been mentioned in some of Stevie's threads that she was still most likely in contract to record at least one more album, and that very well could be the case. And look how she IS handling it with all the FM buzz - she's getting it recorded so fast so she could probably do a quick mini tour (a-la Bella Donna) so she can rush back into FM this fall with the tour, and then getting the album finished in the meantime.
I think that's a perfectly logical excuse for why she isn't "involved" with the FM machine just yet. Would you want to be promoting FM up and down when you're about to release a solo album that you need to be promoting instead?
I am sure that she has also discussed this extensively with the band and they need to give her the time to fulfill her other duties that she had planned, and that she is rerouting HER schedule to finish up her projects - she probably had planned to spend this entire year doing her solo album and tour, and Christine coming back changed all those plans.
Also - it was well documented during the IYD interviews that she was SO happy with Dave Stewart and his producing that she had set in her mind that Dave was going to help produce songs for FM, and with all the songs she has written in the studio these past couple weeks, indicates that she will more than likely transfer the leftovers to FM where Lindsay can make his tweaks as necessary. Seems like a crappy way to go about recording with your band, but maybe she'll only bring a couple of those songs to the fold.
Either way, I think all the Stevie-bashing really needs to stop and let her do what she needs to do. This is not at all any different from how she worked in the 80's between FM and Solo. Everything will work out as it always has, she always sees her commitments through, solo and FM.

True and Stevie is 66. When is she supposed to make another solo album - when she is 70. All the stuff that Fleetwood Mac is going to do takes a lot of time.
Besides I think Stevie already gave Fleetwood Mac some songs. One of them is called Hit and Run.

As far as we know she has not committed to this album yet. She's just committed to the tour. Those of us who are skeptical of her motives are going by the evidence. There's no evidence that she's made any plans to record with FM or that she's only absent because she had prior commitments. Those are rationalizations not based on any evidence because you want to believe everything is fine. Now, could they be true, sure, but there's no evidence of it to this point. There is more evidence that points to her lack of cooperation. I think if things were fine and everything on schedule regarding Stevie we'd have heard it from SOMEONE and we haven't.

forgive me if this point has already been made, I think the timeframe in we the fans think all of these projects will occur is way way off in terms of what will actually happen in reality.
I don't see any label behind the new Stevie album being happy doing a quick release and a quick tour. Nor do I see Stevie being happy with that approach. I think she is going to finish it up and shelve it until AFTER the mac tour in the fall.
Late 2014 through Summer 2015 will be the big solo album push and tour and then january/february 2016 will be back in the studio to finish the mac album with a big release and tour to start that summer. Much like TISL. She toured all summer and went back into the mac in january.
Mick and Lindsey probably have not said much in the press regarding Stevie's absence because they know they still have a TON of time, especially if the actual release date is 2016 or early 2017. They are probably approaching this as a great advantage to get Christine back into the fold both playing live and getting comfortable in the studio without a mad dash / deadline to have to deal with.

I forgot to mention....I think Stevie feels strongly about having those three year gaps between Fleetwood Mac events/tours. Even with the new development of Chris being back in the band, I would be willing to bet she still put her foot down and said..."we were just out last year and we are going out this fall with Chris. By contract, I need to fill an album obligation, I'll take a year and half to tour and promote that. Let's push the album back to 2016/2017 even though all of you have a big head start on it"
That's just my two cents.

It's a useful word.
"Mick and I are friends in a way that Lindsey and I could never be friends. We’re just best friends. Our relationship didn’t last a long time, Mick’s and mine. It was a year. And Lindsey’s and mine’s relationship lasted from when we first met in 1968 and I joined his band up until now. Mick and I will be best friends when we’re 90. But Lindsey’s and mine’s relationship is different."

Poor Lindsey. He has basically begged her to make another album, and yet, people still post stuff like this. What is he supposed to do, cut off his ear and give it to her as a present. Posts like this make me want to say negative things about Stevie. I could go there but I won't.
I'm not going to go there because Stevie has worked hard to keep Fleetwood Mac in peoples mind. She got their work on Glee and back on the charts big time. She is great at interviews and every time she promotes herself, she is reminding people of Fleetwood Mac. She is extremely smart and all her networking is the reason why Fleetwood Mac can get to make another album.

I so agree with you Autumn Ocean.Bucky too often responds to questions with open ended answers that can be interpreted a thousand ways depending on the listener's mind set.I think he is all gung-ho about "doing" this for Chris because he knows that she is a little rusty and not as self confident as she once was in the studio, and IMO he is digging the s..t outta that because,in his pompous ass mind, this means CONTROL.Not to mention the fact that he made this comment as opposed to Chris saying "I have always wanted Lindsey to do this for me".And Chris said "absolutely" without hesitation which me sounded like she was Lindsey's apt pupil which gave me a little twist in my gut.As far as Stevie's needs being more complicated I took that as she will not tolerate his control tactics, she will demand respect and input, and definitely will not be his apt pupil.Kristen probably doesn't take any crap from him at home either.Stevie was probably under his thumb during their entire 7 year "marriage".Stevie said Wide Sargasso Sea from IYD was about a movie she saw but I think it was about S and L-"the only thing that they did together was to make love"-the only thing they agreed on.Thanks for listening-now I need to take a BIG yoga breath...

I think he was referring to their compatibility as collaborators.....something they've never done together. In fact, didn't Stevie say it's something she'd never done with anyone until IYD and Dave Stewart? So to me those "complicated needs" sounds like an issue with Stevie that is not specific to Lindsey.

I think the issue is with Stevie. She won't listen to Lindsey and he is only looking out for her best interest. The scenario reminds me a little Tango in the Night. I think Lindsey and Christine are making pure magic. Stevie better come up with some great stuff.

I'm not so sure he's only looking out for her best interest  I think the issue is more the group dynamic and strong fiery personalities. I would think both Lindsey and Stevie would want to tread very carefully with any recording. The last thing either of them need is numerous explosions before an album or a world tour. I'm sure they'll manage to get it together somehow, they have managed before

"And [...] was written real quickly and it was like, I thought 'Well, you can write in the same room as somebody else if neither of you have an ego and you both need it each other, it works'."
That's right!!! This was in frigging 1983 when she talked about her writing collaboration with Sandy Stewart. That guff about it being the first time with Dave was rubbish, tbh. And comparing it to Lennon McCartney?! The two processes couldn't have been more different, lol.
Here's the full quote. I find it amusing to pick out the similarities to how she described the process with Dave.
SN: And we actually wrote it in the living room together as opposed to writing it like a track. She didn't send me a track. We wrote it from scratch, me pacing and her playing her little synthesiser on the floor in the living room.
JL: Is that unusual for you?
SN: Yeah, it's the first time I've ever actually done that. And I was desperate to write this song.... Because she was very compassionate to me, especially at that time, just rode with me until I was just able to start singing something and she just started playing the right thing. And Nightbird was written real quickly and it was like, I thought 'Well, you can write in the same room as somebody else if neither of you have an ego and you both need it each other, it works'.

while i appreciate your honesty, i'm not sure why you seem to think so low of Christine's ability as a songwriter as well as her ability to not stand up or say exactly what she wants or thinks?
both Lindsey and Christine have been very clear over the years how much they respect each other's songwriting abilities, how they complement each other with bringing to the table different parts of the spectrum, different knowledge and talent. there are enough documented incidents signalling Christine won't take any sh*t from him. so i'm really surprised to see your characterization of their relationship.
that said i think his saying "for you" instead of "with you" definitely comes across as pompous - whether he meant it or not. i didn't like it, because it does come across as not respectful enough towards Christine, and from everything in their musical relationship over the years, he seems to have nothing but huge respect for her and her musical knowledge.

Oh, I enjoy honesty. It seems that when I Do that it is held against me. But whaevah. I can imagine that he irritates you. Me too, to be honest. He usually seem to talk in indirect language. And he is a pompous ass at times. thing is, when I met him he didn't come over like that at all. Put a mic under his nose or a camera in his face and he walks on eggs, and talks like a therapist.
In this case, you can't hear him talk, you don't know with what tone Christine answers! you just interpret it in the way you want to hear it.
Whatever you think about him, it's clear that he wants to make a Mac album, as much open to others as he is able to, (which is limited, I know) but the rest knows that and except his role. He was totally open for using an outside producer, but still Stevie wants to go one way, until now, outside of FM.
That's not very respectful behaviour towards the band. It may be intended otherwise, we'll see. But until now I don't have ANY other information than the facts we know. And that looks ugly.

He's kind of strange. I remember one time he was discussing a game he was playing with Richard. I don't even remember the game, but let me just make up an equivalent like he was saying you went through the letters of the alphabet and you had to write a line based on whatever letter it was. Anyway, what struck me was how he had to say it was a silly game and Richard came up with a lot of drivel, but in the end it was an instructive tool. And I wondered why couldn't he just say it was helpful to begin with? It was almost like he had to suggest that Richard was an idiot first to make his point.

And I wondered why couldn't he just say it was helpful to begin with? It was almost like he had to suggest that Richard was an idiot first to make his point.

You might have a point. It kind of goes along with his constant interviews on how he's always had to help SN and CM with their material, and how their solo shows were like lounge acts.
I'm hoping I'm right on this one and he was being silly sarcastic with her. They really seemed to be getting along well. 8 songs of collaboration seems like a lot.

I liked the part in Ken's book where Lindsey comes in and hears what Christine did on YMLF in his absence and was surprised and proud of her. I mean, on one hand, why was he so surprised that something got done without him? On the other, it's nice that he took pleasure in what she did.

And she wrote some killer material before 1975! Unfortunately, Stevie doesn't have the luxury of having a point in time prior to reference. maybe that is why she is saying she doesn't need him now. Where Christine was established before he came along. You never heard Bob say he had to work Christine's material.

while i appreciate your honesty, i'm not sure why you seem to think so low of Christine's ability as a songwriter as well as her ability to not stand up or say exactly what she wants or thinks?
both Lindsey and Christine have been very clear over the years how much they respect each other's songwriting abilities, how they complement each other with bringing to the table different parts of the spectrum, different knowledge and talent. there are enough documented incidents signalling Christine won't take any sh*t from him. so i'm really surprised to see your characterization of their relationship.
that said i think his saying "for you" instead of "with you" definitely comes across as pompous - whether he meant it or not. i didn't like it, because it does come across as not respectful enough towards Christine, and from everything in their musical relationship over the years, he seems to have nothing but huge respect for her and her musical knowledge.
I don' think low of Chris's songwriting abilities or her ability to defend and stand up for herself. It's just that when you're away from your occupation for a long time it takes time to rebuild your confidence and integrity. That goes for anybody,in any field. And I feel that Bucky played on that notion. And Chris is so "happy as a pig in poo" right now that nothing is going to bother her.Had Bucky said that publicly prior to Chris leaving,I believe she would have ripped him a new one and he would have gotten another drink in the face for good measure! That's all I meant...

He was totally open for using an outside producer, but still Stevie wants to go one way, until now, outside of FM
That's not very respectful behaviour towards the band. It may be intended otherwise, we'll see. But until now I don't have ANY other information than the facts we know. And that looks ugly.
Thanks for understanding, shackin' up.And you're right-all we can do is speculate about what's going on because,as usual with these 5 fireflies, there's alot more going on behind the scenes that we're not aware of.And Stevie of course loves to add a little drama and mystery to any situation.

My post makes you want to say negative things about Stevie? So, you know he is but what is she?
He could have said "our relationship", or something similar. After commenting positively on collaborating with CM, the implication is that SN is the difficult one. He is a man who chooses his words carefully.
Another example of his passive-aggressive behaviour is in DR, when he says "I own the masters", implying he might take his songs and go home if he doesn't get his way on the double album, without actually threatening to do it.

Some interesting news. I PM'd someone really close to Stevie's project and they were nice enough to answer me back. I won't say who it is as I don't want to give up the author of a PM. Anyway, I relayed to this person all the controversy about Stevie recording a solo album now (with Christine being back) and that many people were angry that she wasn't recording with FM. He/She said that "they don't understand" and "everything will be well" . I took this as there was a reason she was a recording a solo album now, and that everything with FM would turn out fine. Mostly kidding. That's good, but I'd like something a little more concrete before I let myself become optimistic. The reason people don't understand is because Stevie won't talk about it. She hasn't mentioned a FM album even once this year. And the band members don't exactly have anything very optimistic to say about it either. Regarding Stevie, that is.

I know, but I understand that action, because Mick was with him on the doublealbum idea from the start on. He was willing to fold his GOS in a mac album, as long as that 13- to 17 track batch would NOT be pulled down to a 6 or 7 poptrack-batch. And in the end Mick backed out on the idea. He was just confronting Mick with the fact that those tracks should see the light of day like they were meant to. You can call it passive - agressive, you can also see it as a reasonable argument to push the rest of the band to be careful with what he envisioned with these songs.
In the end, it was a compromise. Good for politics, not for art.

they all talked about the recording of a new FM album, except Stevie. if she mentioned new FM album once in all her interviews people would have much less reason to speculate.
if she's contractually obligated to release another solo album as many here are saying, and that contract dates back to 1996 (that seems way too long?), why didn't she have the same problems recording SYW (they were seriously considering Interscope at the time), or EP last year, or her Sound City and other recent releases that were not on WB?

I remember reading somewhere that Stevie's Enchanted box set finished up her prior contract with Atlantic, and that TISL was the first record she released on her most recent, 5-album deal with WB/Reprise.
Unless she is contractually obligated to release an album by a certain year, it's hard to see why her WB contract would prevent her from contributing work to a new FM album before she finishes up her WB contract.

In another thread (in the Rumours forum) there's an interview (audio) with Lindsey talking about what they've been doing at the Village Recorder. He says they've been there for 8 weeks altogether, him and Christine, and the goal has been to get Chris up to speed and back on track with writing and recording with him/FM and that's what they've done. So it makes sense-- at least to me-- that Stevie wasn't there. It was more like, you guys go to the Village Recorder and get Christine all spooled up and I'll be in Nashville with Dave getting myself and MY music spooled up and at some point when we all come back into the studio together as FLEETWOOD MAC we will all work together to create a FM album". It doesn't sound like the goal in LA was to create a FM album at all, but to help Chris blow the dust off and be ready when they DO go in to put together an album. At least that's my take. YMMV

Yes I agree with you bombaysaffires and just posted about this in another thread. I would be very surprised if Stevie hadn't planned the Nashville recording session many months ago - just organising a time when Dave Stewart would be available would be a nightmare in itself (he's constantly travelling around the world working with all manner of people).
Yes Johnny, it's interesting to me that Stevie has kept quiet about both the Mac album and her own project - it's usually the case that you can't shut her up, but when it comes to creating, she likes to be left to her own devices and not pressured by speculation - the very thing most of us are actually doing!

She has, but the others haven't. So there's no reason for her to not acknowledge that "her band" is recording and that she won't be with them right now, but will maybe next year after the tour. If you read the new Billboard interview with Lindsey and Christine, they seem to just be under the assumption that she will join them eventually. It doesn't sound like there's a mutual agreement in place about it. I'm sure they have good reason to assume that though. At the moment it doesn't sound like they really know when they're going to go back and finish the album and that the timing of it depends on how much interest they receive about it.

The new billboard interview sheds some more light on that that basically refutes much of this theory. They clearly have been in the studio to record an album. They've laid down the tracks for 8 songs (not including Lindsey's old songs), done overdubs and even have parts written for Stevie to sing on all of the songs "eventually". Lindsey also said that they're about 75% done with what they've been working on. They're not going to come back at a later date to start over. Recording of a new FM album is well underway, that we can be sure of.
Also nothing that's been said by Lindsey, Christine or Mick would lead us to believe that Stevie's absence is mutually agreed. As I mentioned in the above post, Christine's quote in the new interview makes it sound, as have previous interviews, that they're just under the assumption that Stevie will join them at some point and that they don't seem to really know when they're going to get back at it.

"Because of Stevie's absence, there's been a very strong link musically between Lindsey and I, where we've actually been able to concentrate and co-write," McVie said, before assuring HuffPost Entertainment that Nicks will eventually have a large part in the album. "Some of the results of those fresh ideas were sort of unusual for me and Lindsey to co-write, anyway. We’ve done it together in the studio this time and have got some fantastic, quite profound, quite surprising emotions out of it. It knocked my socks off completely." They hope to have the record out before summer 2015.
does this mean that when they collaborated and co-wrote songs for white album, or TITN, they didn't do it together, in the studio? and can this give us hope these new co-writes will be very different from the old ones (i really only love world turning, of all their co-writes)?

I don't know about the World Turning, but for Tango they said they just took each other's songs and worked on them separately. They weren't banging them out together. Michele

I would imagine World Turning was indeed written together because they only spent a few months in the Valley.
But it sounds like this new album is really a lot of collaboration with existing material. He might have had an A section written and she said let me take that and write the B section... and then he produced it..
or like in the article.. he has an instrumental.. and she put the melody and lyrics over it...

It will drop like the Extended Play did, like a lead balloon on iTunes.
A physical release and a digital download. Tentatively I'd suggest that should be released next year means it would be about October of this year.
Just a stupid hunch.
Next year is 365 dates from the date that comment was made. Should is conditional tense.
Allegedly, the album will be released within the next 365 days of 22/05/2014 is all that we know at this stage.
My presumption is that it will be earlier rather than later, towards the end of 2014 somewhere between October through til December.

On With The Show is a good album title, or maybe the live DVD/CD from the tour. (Wishful thinking)
A more accurate title : The Juggling Act.

If Chris is coming up with songs that merit colourful titles like Red Sun and Carnival Begin (either would make great album titles) then she must be writing better than ever. This really can't come soon enough for me - I kind of wish they'd just get on with finishing the album instead of doing this tour.

So skeptical. Just because every focus is full-steaming ahead with the tour doesn't mean the album won't come out/get finished next year. We originally thought we'd never get new material and then we got an EP, we never thought Christine would come back, now she is. Have a little faith.

just leaning from history. this album has had several aborted starts since 2012. it has 15+ recorded songs already.
next year, when FM tour finishes, SN will probably find something else to do instead of recording with the band, just as she did for the last 3 years. for example, she has to tour her album, no?
and band keeps waiting instead of putting out what they recorded.
so what do you think - when will this album come out?

End of next year, latest beginning of 2016.
Even if Miss Nicks wants to tour for 24 Karat, let's face it, it's at best a
b-side album that won't do as well as a new project like In Your Dreams.
The IYD tour was only what, 15 cities? So a couple months at best then a
few months rest and she'll have well over half a year where she won't have
any excuses about not coming in and recording tracks. She's been publicly
complaining for years about the Mac being a boys club and now Chris is back
and we all know sooner or later she's going to cave at the prospect of raking
in the dough of a full Rumours line-up album/tour.

Understand the frustration.
Stevie is working with the band
on the album. Good news!
But it is not out of character for their motivations
and intentions to clash, simmer and burn.
The have always been a dysfunctional group;
Strong personalities, different agendas.
This is their typical behavior/their process.
It's hard being their fans; we want more from them
than they are capable of giving.
I'm still learning to embrace their flaws.

Being grateful for what is is much better.

Their priorities are so out of whack. When Christine rejoined, they should have focused on making a new album, then go on tour. If that happened, it wouldn't have interfered/clashed so much with Stevie's solo plans.
But instead, the priority was profit over product won! Were they complicit in this choice, or were their managers and the corporation that finances their tours putting pressure on them?
The show, as expected, is just mostly rehash of the all the songs circa 1975-1979. I'm attending a show on this jukebox tour, and I'm sure I'll love it. But tours are fleeting. I'd rather have a new album.

Let's face it - every "challenge" presented by Stevie has been addressed. The one she likely felt would never happen - Christine's return - was met. We've all seen people in our workplaces who "can't possibly do this or that because of X/Y/Z." This latest delay, the 24k project, reads like another stalling tactic. I will hope for the best - that I'm wrong - and we get another album sooner than never.

I just hope the album is good. What they don't realize is Fleetwood Mac albums are always better when Stevie participates, as much as she hates being bored in the studio. Her contributions to Rumours (Dreams, Gold Dust Woman, I Don't Want to Know, Silver Springs, The Chain) and Tusk were essential. When they make an album and there's no central concept and the songs are not cohesive, that's when they have a mess. They need to all be on the same page for something special to result.
Stevie is working with the band

I thought that Lindsey said in an interview last year that there was new material and it was a matter of when, not if, it would be released. Maybe he said that prior to the release of the EP but I was reasonably sure it was said in relation to the unreleased portion of the eight songs recorded by Men of Mac.
Really I don't think Lindsey and Christine would bother recording new material at this stage of their lives and musical careers if it wasn't intended for an eventual release. After all, recording at Village Studios would have cost a fair bit, if they didn't think the material would be released, why not just do it at Lindsey's home studio at a much cheaper cost?
These are the song titles I remember:
Carnival Begin
How I Feel
Hunger

Lay Down for Free

Red Sun

The plodding is naturally inherent in this band. Individually, each of them might make personal comments based on their own expectations and perceptions
A planned strategy to "milk" their fans? Moo! Moo! That's udderly absurd! (laughing at my own cow joke). I see no motive for that. Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham On The Group’s New Album Plans
By Jim Fusilli
Extending their tour into 2015 won’t deter Fleetwood Mac from recording what might become their first album in almost three decades of new songs composed by Lindsey Buckingham, Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks.
During a telephone conversation last week, Buckingham said McVie had presented him with demos of her new compositions. “Piano and voice,” he said. He brought them back to his studio in Los Angeles. With McVie’s approval, he added, “I took massive liberties with them.”
Nicks was “otherwise engaged. A running commentary these days,” he said, perhaps referring to preparations for her exhibition of her self-portrait photography now ongoing at the Morrison Hotel galleries in Los Angeles and New York as well as the release last week of “24 Karat Gold: Songs from the Vault,” her album of new versions of old, mostly unfamiliar compositions. “Christine and I were able to concentrate on each other,” Buckingham said. “We were exploring some new turf. That became enlightening to me.”
With Christine McVie back in the band for the first time in 16 years, Fleetwood Mac will be on the road through next March. “We never envisioned finishing the album in the short term,” he said. “We set it aside. Stevie will come in and participate. I have material I had been working on. There’s no danger that it will slip between the tracks. It’s too profound to.”
Buckingham hinted the band might tour behind new material. The current “On With The Show” concert tour features only songs from Fleetwood Mac’s hit-making era from 1975 through 1987’s “Tango in the Night,” the last album to feature Buckingham, McVie and Nicks with drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie.
“Once we finish it,” Buckingham said, “we can think about going out and trying something new.”
As for the vibe now among the quintet with Christine McVie back on board, he said, “It’s a very interesting thing when someone who helped to define the interaction leaves for that amount of time. You don’t know how it’s going to play out. But this something that feels really good. It feels really circular.”

Oh, Lindsey, annoyed and verbose as usual. Gotta love him.
I see both sides of the coin, though. I fully understand why Lindsey is annoyed- Christine has come back after a nearly 2 decade absence, and they are working on their first studio album with the 5 in nearly 3 decades. Why wasn't Stevie there, after all, she's always saying she's the last one who would ever end Fleetwood Mac.
On the other hand, Lindsey put up a multi year fence a while back so he could concentrate on his solo career. Stevie is simply doing the same thing herself. Except she's taken a mere fraction of that time to get her solo album banged out. She's even foregone touring behind it.
In any event, I'm glad to hear Lindsey is proclaiming with great certainty that this album WILL happen, and this whole timeline has been planned out since the beginning, and the adding of dates isn't going to change any of it. We rarely get such firm & inclusive reassurances for this band.

I don't think the timeline has been planned out. He said they never intended to finish it earlier this year, but it also sounds like they'll get back to it eventually. Adding dates pushes that eventuality back even though it doesn't change whether or not it happens.

when summer 2015 rolls around and Stevie goes on solo tour, hopefully Lindsey will feel the need to compose Dancin' 2 and do another OMS tour, cause the time will open up, and he'll decide to fill it. hopefully he will do what he did in 2010 and 2012 when he wanted to do FM albums and some were not on board, as opposed to closing himself in the studio for years and decades like he did in the 80s and 90s.

Because they're so reliable when they give us dates.
Oh that date we got from Mick saying that some of them would be in the studio in March was pretty reliable. He said that in January and look at everything that has transpired since.
http://www.ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=53178&highlight=march
Now, that was when all the Stevie talked started, because we began wondering which band members would NOT be in the studio. At first I thought, "Oh, Stevie will be there. It's just that John won't be. And that's why Mick said that some of them, not all of them would be in the studio."
Others said, "Don't read too much into what Mick said. I'm sure all of them will be in the studio. Don't focus so much on semantics." As it turns out, Mick's wording raised a flag deservedly. His offhand comment in Hawaii was actually accurate, as was the speculation that Stevie would not take part.
We've had this discussion and it hasn't really changed. The only thing that has change is that when the topic had commenced, we expected to have confirmation that everyone was on board for the album by now.

Lindsey is trending at #5 on yahoo today.
In a new interview with the Wall Street Journal to promote Fleetwood Mac's extremely successful comeback tour, Lindsey Buckingham talks at length about the band's new recording sessions and how the potential comeback album is progressing.
"Christine and I were able to concentrate on each other," Buckingham said of the pair's time in the studio the past few months. He noted that when the elusive British keyboardist rejoined the band earlier this year after a 16-year absence, she also brought piano and voice demos with her. "We were exploring some new turf. That became enlightening to me," he added, noting that Stevie Nicks had been unable to sit in on the sessions due to prior selfie-related commitments.
Have no fear though: Buckingham promises that Fleetwood Mac's members will all get to work on music together in due time:
We never envisioned finishing the album in the short term. We set it aside. Stevie will come in and participate. I have material I had been working on. There’s no danger that it will slip between the tracks. It’s too profound to.
The band plans to continue on their tour until March. There's no word on when a potential comeback album — their first since 2003's Say You Will — might surface, but click your heels and spin around three times while wearing a shawl and hope for the best.

Time is the one thing they don't have on their side and this is compounded by the fact that they have to keep FIVE aging rock stars healthy at the same time...I think this plan of rake in the money now and worry about a new record later will backfire on the band and something be it either health or band politics will keep the record from being finished...If they had put the tour off by just 6 months they could have finished the record (even if it meant letting Stevie produce her own songs) and had a new record to promote and tour behind in 2015...If they had done this and it had been a positive experience for everyone ( hint "Stevie" hint ) then Stevie may have agreed to do another last FM record in 2018 but since profits are more important than product I seriously doubt any of this will happen.
How can they be making an album when they're touring again ?.....
Maybe they should have begun an album after Stevie had finished a short tour. She does have an album to promote after all.
Instead they are touring well into the New Year.

I dont see why not having a portable studio on hand on a bus.
They can park in the quiet woods somewhere and record on.

I really don't see why being on the road is such a detriment to making this next record. I'd say it's probably a good opportunity for the band to work on some songs to see what works and what doesn't. There's got to be some creative juices flowing on the road.

Mick Fleetwood: "We Hope So"
New article from Toronto, read the full article at fleetwoodmacnews.com
Lindsey Buckingham has called the new material "profound," an adjective that Fleetwood agreed with enthusiastically.
"It is profound. It's great," said the 67-year-old drummer Thursday in an interview in Toronto. "The four of us went in ... and had a lot of fun — for Chris, just reconnecting, playing music, with no particular thought in mind.
"I hope it becomes part of something that will make sense. But (bassist) John (McVie), Lindsey and me and Chris, we were all participating. So it's exciting."
The band's last album of new material was 2003's "Say You Will," but the last to feature the band's most successful five-piece lineup was 1987's "Tango in the Night."
Asked whether Nicks would eventually be involved in the recording, Fleetwood replied: "We hope so."
"Right now we've got this tour to do and it's very time-consuming so we'll see," he added. "It will come out one way or another."

I still cannot wrap my head around the fact that Chris comes back after 16 years...everyone else in the band goes into the studio and clearly Stevie is hesitant.
For a long while, I did think it was just a contractual gag order due to 24 K coming out. I figured, warner doesn't want her to talk about the new mac album if she has an album coming out. Makes sense.
Obviously, it's pretty clear Stevie has some sort of reason for not jumping on the bandwagon. I'm also guessing that any questions about the new album are on the "do not ask" list when it comes time for her to do interviews. I always thought that with Christine back, it would provide that buffer(that hasn't been there since Chris left) that would put Stevie at ease, much more so than before. Maybe Stevie feels that since Christine and Lindsey are so close, she will still feel outnumbered like she did before? I have no idea.

I thought that myself. When Lindsey and Christine get in a writing/instrumental mode, they get on their own planet. They have a special muse that's been there since the first album. They even played and sang on each other's albums when they went solo.

Stevie hasn't even addressed anything about a new album (see below). We're just going off of what has been said in interviews.

I don't know if it's Warners, her management, or a combination of both, but that would be very consistent with conversations I've personally had with the management and label of the band I work for. I think it's industry standard. Just because something is happening doesn't mean one is at liberty to talk about it, even in the abstract, and especially not while somebody is promoting two (actually three if you count the photo exhibition) other projects. But she's certainly not going to say she's agreeing to another Fleetwood Mac project while she, her management, and the label working her new solo album as well as the band's "reunion" tour.
The easiest way to keep her out of the "new Fleetwood Mac album" discussion is to not agree to do it, at least until they've finished working 24KG. The band can say "we still have to get Stevie on board," and Stevie's management/label can tell interviewers that any new Fleetwood Mac album questions are off limits. The band can legitimately say they're working on new material (i.e. we're not just an oldies band) and Stevie doesn't have to have her focus taken off of working 24KG.
Obviously, it's pretty clear Stevie has some sort of reason for not jumping on the bandwagon. I'm also guessing that any questions about the new album are on the "do not ask" list when it comes time for her to do interviews.
I think that's a very safe bet.

Christine has been to at least one IYD premier, the 24KG photo exhibition, and reportedly went to Nashville while Stevie was recording 24KG. Christine also said that they had a few "girls nights out" since she's rejoined. The point being is that I think Stevie also feels close to Christine.

What exactly is Stevie doing to promote 24K that you're so certain even the idea that Stevie might one day participate in a Fleetwood Mac album would take away from? Why is it ok for her to tour with fleetwood Mac but coming to an agreement with her band mates is crossing the line? So she has to keep her schedule for the next year or two wide open because she's promoting an album right now? The line of thinking defies logic because of how little attention it would really receive right now and how little she's actively promoting her new album. While you may be an industry expert her veteran band mates don't seem to be aware of the concept.

I'm happy to hear that Lindsey is feeling "circular." :lol:I liked hearing how he took "massive liberties" with Christine's songs. It sounds like they are enjoying a prosperous collaboration. I'm certain Stevie will get in the fray eventually; she has to much ego not be be involved.
I wonder what level of social interaction the band members have while they are on tour. You think that the comradery would strengthen Stevie's bond to them and provide a sense of motivation to work with Christine and the others.
Despite what the issues are, Stevie has always been loyal to the band. Lindsey had a strong hand in turning her songs into hits and classics. I don't think the high level of animosity assumed between them is that well founded. I feel Lindsey is sensitive enough to accommodate Stevie's wishes, and not take massive liberties with her songs. Dylan is her defense.

What exactly is Stevie doing to promote 24K that you're so certain even the idea that Stevie might one day participate in a Fleetwood Mac album would take away from?
That's not even the point. They're working 24KG, they're not working a hypothetical Fleetwood Mac album. They're promoting the project where actual money has been invested, not the one fans want verified will happen right now. So we have to wait...Welcome to being a Fleetwood Mac fan....
Why is it ok for her to tour with fleetwood Mac but coming to an agreement with her band mates is crossing the line?
We've all seen how well Mick Fleetwood keeps a secret, right. Stevie is already promoting Fleetwood Mac by being on the tour, is it too much to let her focus on 24KG and the photo exhibit?
So she has to keep her schedule for the next year or two wide open because she's promoting an album right now?
I'd love to say that was a complete stretch. IYD could prove otherwise, but having Christine back also prove to be something completely different.
The line of thinking defies logic because of how little attention it would really receive right now and how little she's actively promoting her new album.
So, only talking about that, doing the photo exhibit, and doing the various cameos on sh*tty talent shows have nothing whatsoever in terms of getting that album out? She talks about that, the art, her primetime plans every chance she gets, in addition to talking about McVie or Buckingham.
While you may be an industry expert her veteran band mates don't seem to be aware of the concept.
They totally get the concept of band politics. Hell, studying them is how I became aware, and I've seen how it's applied in other situations.

I think Stevie is not happy with the way FM is planning it's future and I'm quite sure Stevie would have been more inclined to be "On board" with a new FM record if they hadn't put off recording in favor of another tour...It's possible that a large part of the reason why she doesn't seem interested in recording (with FM) now is that if she commits to a new FM record she is also agreeing to another large scale FM tour (2016/ 2017 ?) and I really don't think she want's that at all...I do think all this touring could possibly effect the heath of the band but it seems that the surrounding infrastructure of managers, promoters and whoever else that gets a percentage of the profits are more concerned with maximizing cash flow.
It'd probably be easier if Stevie's solo career just totally tanked and she wouldn't have to think about juggling it with FM. She just scored a top 10 album and it's already garnered a fair amount of critical acclaim. With what appears to be FM revving up the engines to go full tilt into becoming a "working band" again, can she, or is she willing to be on board? Does she finally have to choose between FM and her solo career? She's not young anymore and she's not getting the cocaine high to propel her(thank God). Will be very interesting to see how this all pans out.
Recorded last Wednesday in NYC after 2 MSG shows and before the Today show, an hr long interview with Lindsey discussing working with Christine again, relationship with Stevie, FM vs solo career (how unlike Stevie, he did not have to choose between 2 big machines pulling him in different directions), why folding solo material into FM doesn't bother him, his relationship with new bands and why he doesn't put himself out there on the market as a producer (not the most social person in the world, self-esteem issues), new FM material, how it sounds, and how he thinks it just has to be put out there (profound and all) etc etc -

Wait, so there's no talk of an album because it's a secret, and Mick can't keep a secret so Stevie doesn't say anything??
Since when is making an album a secret? IT'S WHAT BANDS DO. Hey, let's form a band and maaayyyybbbeeee one day we'll make an album but we can't teeeellll youuuuuu……..
They're a BAND. They've made a bunch of albums ALREADY. They even made an album without Christine! Now Chris is back and….well……I dunno…. maayyyybbbeeee we'll make an album but….shhhh
Ridiculous on the face of it. They're a band. It is nothing "unique" for a band to make an album. That's the business they're in. (oh but it's FM, etc etc. That's not my point. My point is, they're in the RECORD BUSINESS. So for them or anyone to act like the mere idea that a band might put out an album is a big secret business strategy is kinda ludicrous).
Ok, establishing that a band (generally speaking)making an album isn't a secret (that's like, hey, we opened a restaurant, and maybe we'll serve food but we can't tell you……..) let's think about this "Mick can't keep a secret" piece. Um, an album is already out in the public domain --- Christine has talked about it, Lindsey has talked about it. They've said they were recording. What, Chris sent Lindsey demos and he worked on them and they went back and forth trans atlantically working on them, then she flew to LA and they camped out in a studio with Mick and John---- for the hell of it?? They had money they felt like burning??
There's no cat to let out of the bag by mentioning the word (dropping my voice to a whisper) "album"
IT'S BEEN MENTIONED ALREADY!
The ONLY mystery (and I use that word sarcastically) is whether Stevie will get off her arse and make the album. Here's the thing: YOU'RE IN A BAND. Bands make albums. If you don't want to make a FM album, don't be in the band.
Ultimately, it smacks of ego. Greed. "I want TWO careers, dammit and I want them now and I want them exactly how I want them!!" (stamp foot). Well, like Lindsey, she needs to remember being in a band is not a dictatorship, it requires compromise. That's really where the sticking point is…. coming to some workable compromise on producer (or whatever else it is that's stuck in her/their craw).
Saying FM can't talk about even the idea of doing an album is absurd. Stevie saying nothing about being onboard with some future album with Chris is absurd. From a business perspective it's not going to cannibalize her solo sales. There are plenty of Stevie fans who buy all her stuff; there are plenty of FM fans who don't and won't. (Same for LB).
You're all pushing 70. Some of you have passed it already. All this coy sh&t and preciousness is embarrassing. Yes, you're a "legend". And yes, you over there, you're a "visionary". Now go make that last album.

As for people saying Stevie can't talk about FM stuff coz she's promoting solo stuff, again, I'd recommend going back and looking at the last 30 years of her career. She's always talked about Mac stuff while doing solo stuff--- even if just to reassure people she was still in the Mac fold "Fleetwood Mac will be doing another album and I'll be heading off to do that when I'm wrapped up with this solo tour/album" or something along those lines. Every. Time. She's got a lot of the same management, the same label, not a whole lot has changed in that regard, so why saying she's "hoping" to work on the next FM project harmful? It isn't. It builds anticipation.

Thanks for posting. I really loved this interview. The interviewer did a great job. Lindsey always tip toes past his mindset during the Tango break and Big Love. He sort of implies he was out of control at that time but we never get the details. One thing that I agree with is how Lindsey says he never has seen Fleetwood Mac fans stand for the entire concert before. I agree. There was so much energy at the show, I never have seen that before at a Mac show.

The optimism that Lindsey has for new music is very encouraging. Sounds as if the studio time with Christine produced some excellent work.
And, most importantly, he has brushed off the idea of a "three year gap" - of course, this could change. It does seem that he is on board with getting right on with the new FM music a.s.a.p.

The whole argument is a fantasy, which would make sense if John Lennon didn't want to talk about a Beatles reunion while promoting a solo album, but makes no sense in the context of Stevie and FM, especially at this stage in Stevie and FM's career, when it's not 1981 any longer.

Michele, are you reading Mick's quotes the same way I am. He's building a pressure cooker.
Yes, I think Mick's motives are clear, but he needs to be even more blatant than this. It is unacceptable that we are in the same boat now that we were in in January, when he said the others would be going into the studio in March and we wondered why Stevie wasn't. By this time, there should be clarification. It really doesn't matter. If they've decided to finish the album at the end of the tour, that will be enough for me. But they have to decide, one way or another. June 2015, we finish this album, whether Stevie shows up or not.
If they make a resolved declaration like that, Stevie will turn up, leave her alone and she'll come home, wagging her tail behind her. But if you leave things up in the air and keep waiting and hoping, you'll be waiting and hoping until 2017.
The four of them need to find a backbone somewhere. I suggest people throw spleen onto the stage for them at upcoming shows. Michele

Realistic Fleetwood Mac fan: I don't have a good feeling about Behind the Mask. And it's not just because Lindsey Buckingham is gone, either. I mean, who is Billy Burnette? Who is Rick Vito? Why even bother with a new album without such an integral part of what made your band so successful?
Optimistic FM fan #1: Excuse me? I didn't realize you could see into the future and that you were such an expert on music.
Optimistic FM fan #2: Yeah, do I really need to hear this kind of stuff right before their album is released? FM's music has been the soundtrack to my life for nearly two-decades, and Mick Fleetwood wouldn't have added Burnette and Vito to the band if he didn't think they were capable of generating the same success as when Buckingham was involved.
Optimistic FM fan #1: Totally. We should give it time before we write off this album. There are 13 songs to go! I'm excited about Burnette and Vito, and I think they can take FM to a whole new level! I look for this new album to equal or surpass the success of Rumours!
Optimistic FM fan #2: Yeah baby, 20 million copies! That's what we do around here!

Among the interesting parts given the current threads on here:
(starts around 30:00)
Stevie, I think, always felt a little more torn once she'd had that kind of success with solo work…..
[…]
but if the band came calling I think my….my sense of... 'duty' perhaps, but also just my sense of 'community', to being a band member in good standing, always, uh, precluded me saying "No, I'm gonna do this now, you're gonna have to wait" because, you know, Fleetwood Mac was not something to be taken lightly and is not something to be taken lightly. It's an incredibly, um, complex and heavy duty... cocktail of these 5 people… all of whom are very strong individuals on their own and it adds up to something, you know, greater than the sum of the parts. So I…you know on those occasions when I had been working on solo material and it was given over, I always felt that it was... appropriate. I mean maybe there was a level of reluctance, but still you know you have to make choices that you think are the right things to do.
[…]and again, if you call yourself a band member you've gotta to act like a band member. And there are compromises that must be made….and I learned that from day one of being in the band, you know […] I immediately saw what I could bring and I saw what I'd have to give up. And that's just something that you come to terms with... you know..and you should be happy about.
Now he totally glosses over his adjustment period being in a band though he does indeed get in a bit about how he had to change the guitar he used to fit in the band (though shockingly no mention of having to use a….pick!)

..she had some new ideas for songs.. so when we were at the end of our tour last year in England, she had given me a bunch of material in very, very rough form-- just singing and ...piano and voice. And I took it home... and... did what I have always done for her, and Stevie-- I constructed it, and produced it and made demos of it. Sent it back to her… and… and this was very reaffirming for me, too, because this was a piece of what I'd always done, that had been missing, you know? Um, my dynamic with Stevie is a little different... so, you know, um…. Christine really wanted this from me at this particular time, and I was able to give it and so… after.. you know, prepping, she came over and we went into the studio for a couple of months… [……]
[…] it was better than ever. It was magical. We, we just jammed and…. we..we.. you know, cowrote. I brought in some of my material, some of which I'd had from before, and some newer things, and we ended up recording with John and Mick about 9 songs in the period of about two months and getting them about.. mmm... 75 percent to completion. Um, Stevie was at that time uh...otherwise engaged, and… you know she's planning on coming in at the end of this tour at which point we will finish this and put out some new product.
So rather than taking his masculinity away, it sounds like Christine actually gave some of it back to him..

Lindsey wants his "Songbird."
This was a very good interview. I wish the interviewer pushed Lindsey just a little bit more: what kind of adjustments did you have to make? Playing Peter Green's and Bob Welch's songs, for instance? If Tusk is your favorite album, why do we not have a presentation in the best formatting? Why don't you play most of your Tusk songs live? What will the band do to mark the anniversary of the album/will those songs ever be properly featured as to bring more exposure to them? He said Bleed to Love Her couldn't fit into the set, even though he loves that song and does it for sound checks. Why couldn't it fit? What goes into making a set and deciding what "fits" and what doesn't? My take on this was Lindsey doesn't always get what he wants and the band vetoes...though I always though Lindsey had the most pull with the setlist.

They probably decided to do only songs from their era of the band. Though I suppose you could consider BTLH part of that era as it featured on The Dance and the SYW version includes Christine in the vocal mix. Lindsey obviously puts a lot of weight on what the fans want over what he wants in regards to set list.

I loved this interview because it was intelligent; the interviewer was knowledgeable and asked some in-depth questions. It was more like a conversation, and seemed so intimate.
Despite his big ego, Lindsey comes off as fairly humble and very insightful. He appears to be very self aware if himself and the circumstances around him. I feel I have more of a connection and understanding of him now.
We can bitch all we want -- about questioning their decisions and wishing he/they should do this, play that -- but I am coming to realize they have a different perspective and relationship to their work (songs, albums, performances, choices) than we have.
He mentions at the end that they might pull one or two songs from the EP for the new album. He specifically mentions "It Takes Time" though he refers to it as "that one on the piano".
doesn't surprise me. that song always sounded unfinished, and we know his plans were to just make available for download Sad Angel and Miss Fantasy at the time. then Stevie came in with the idea of an EP instead, and they needed one more song in addition to a BN song she brought in, so he compromised and put the song he considered unfinished out there.

yes, i think interviewer was really good and it was so refreshing that he was actually knowledgeable fan of LB solo music. pressing him more on not playing his other Tusk songs would be something i'd really like to hear answer to, i think it might be an interesting and unexpected answer. same with BTLH and SYW songs.
solo fans have pressed him for years on not playing more OOTC songs, and he finally started adding some. although we all think we know why he didin't like playing them.
i would have liked to hear more talk about solo stuff; interviewer tried a few times but didn't really go into enough depth after LB's answers.

What a great interview. Love how he tries to shame Stevie into doing the album. lol
Edit: Actually Bleed to Love Her would be perfect for this tour, as it's as much a Dance song as a SYW song AND it's famous as a Dance song because of the visually illiterate readings of the illusory eye-line matches between Lindsey and Christine. My faith in cycles says it should be in the set.

the writeup by Andy Greenwald that goes with the podcast:

I still can’t believe this actually happened. Lindsey Buckingham has been one of my artistic heroes for years. Like everyone else on planet Earth, I’m a huge fan of his seminal songs with Fleetwood Mac and of the enduring rock-and-roll myth in which he played a central role: His relationship with Stevie Nicks, on and off the records, gave rise to the crazy-making belief that the best art can come only from the worst kind of emotional wreckage. More than any of that, though, I’m continually inspired by Lindsey as a solo artist. (Check out my Spotify playlist of his best solo work below. And then tell me it was made by a guy who just qualified for a senior discount at the movies.) Across five decades, with collaborators and without, he’s never stopped chasing his muse, even when it leads him straight over a cliff. Thanks to this drive, Fleetwood Mac stands apart from all other legacy acts touring the world today. The current “On With the Show” tour — the first to include Christine McVie since 1998 — is a sweaty, revelatory evening of old hits and new energy. From standards like “Go Your Own Way” to overlooked gems like “I Know I’m Not Wrong” (probably my favorite song of all time), the performance never once backslides into nostalgia. With Lindsey fingerpicking, stomping, singing, pleading, and barking like a rabid, heartsick dog, it exists only in the now.
So I was as flustered as I’ve ever been on the day last week that Lindsey agreed to meet me in a Manhattan studio. I shouldn’t have been. Fresh off two sold-out nights at Madison Square Garden, Lindsey was kind, modest, and charmingly geeked over the band’s return to its classic lineup. Over the course of our 50-minute conversation, he spoke freely about the music that inspired him, the perpetual strangeness of his relationship with Nicks, and the reasons he never settles. “Do you think I have self-esteem issues?” he asked at one point. He shouldn’t. With a new Fleetwood Mac album on the way, more solo songs in the offing, and an unmet desire to work with younger bands (Vampire Weekend? Jenny Lewis? Can someone please give this man a call?), Lindsey Buckingham is shining as bright as ever in his golden years.

I just hope the album works as a whole, conceptual wise. That there is some unifying theme or themes that makes it a cohesive and compelling statement.
Also, that the production isn't too adult contemporary. Sometimes, less is more. Emphasize rhythm, not a glossy sound...and maybe get another producer to work with Lindsey. I said this before, but Stevie may have a Voice connection: Pharrell. Wouldn't that be interesting...lol They'll get at least one top 10 hit single.

Mick Fleetwood: "We Hope So"
Nick Patch, The Canadian Press October 16, 2014
http://www.news1130.com/2014/10/16/mick-fleetwood-says-new-fleetwood-mac-music-profound-hopes-nicks-contributes/
Mick Fleetwood says new Fleetwood Mac music ‘profound,’ hopes Nicks contributes
TORONTO – Mick Fleetwood says he hopes Stevie Nicks will ultimately find time to contribute to the new music Fleetwood Mac is recording — which could ultimately form the band’s first album in nearly 30 years with its entire principal lineup intact.
The newly reformed rock titans — who welcomed keyboardist Christine McVie back into the fold for a tour that hits Toronto on Saturday and other Canadian cities in the coming months — went into the studio “many months ago now” to work on new material, Fleetwood said.
Lindsey Buckingham has called the new material “profound,” an adjective that Fleetwood agreed with enthusiastically.
“It is profound. It’s great,” said the 67-year-old drummer Thursday in an interview in Toronto. “The four of us went in … and had a lot of fun — for Chris, just reconnecting, playing music, with no particular thought in mind.
“I hope it becomes part of something that will make sense. But (bassist) John (McVie), Lindsey and me and Chris, we were all participating. So it’s exciting.”
The band’s last album of new material was 2003′s “Say You Will,” but the last to feature the band’s most successful five-piece lineup was 1987′s “Tango in the Night.”
Asked whether Nicks would eventually be involved in the recording, Fleetwood replied: “We hope so.”
“Right now we’ve got this tour to do and it’s very time-consuming so we’ll see,” he added. “It will come out one way or another.”
The time-consuming nature of the tour didn’t stop Fleetwood from stopping by an exhibit of his photography in Toronto on Thursday, with a more formal gathering expected to take place Friday.
The tall, lanky Englishman has dabbled in photography since the late 1960s, but took a more dedicated interest in recent years. The 26 photographs on display at the Liss Gallery are primarily concerned with nature — a fascination for Fleetwood after he moved with his elderly mother to Maui.
There he was inspired by bountiful yellow bushes, majestic trees and the sprawl of lonely country roads. Some photos hold more meaning to Fleetwood than might be immediately obvious; two images of swans, for instance, conjure memories of the children’s stories his father used to write.
“Swans, like dolphins, when they become partners they never part. They stay, unlike my marriages, in one piece,” quipped Fleetwood, thrice divorced.
The austere photos are decidedly not, he notes, typical rock-star material.
“There are no, like, thigh shots of women and stuff,” he pointed out. “(Those) seem to be expected from an old rock and roller like myself. It’s a calm feeling that seems to be welcomed.”
The works are for sale, most retailing for $2,800 or $7,250. He already found a buyer during Thursday’s muted media presentation, with Toronto resident Genevieve Peters scooping up one of the pieces as a gift for her fiance.
“This is a historic moment,” beamed Fleetwood as he signed the back.
For Fleetwood, photography has been a creative outlet quite separate from the band — for which he does not write songs.
Still, he’s clearly deriving a deep satisfaction from the band’s long-awaited reunion.
“It’s a great time for all of us in Fleetwood Mac,” he said. “Certainly me, (who) tended to be the gatekeeper — or my insecurity forced me to keep the band going, who knows really what it might have been.
“We owe it, I think, to get some things right. It’s more of a spirited, emotional thing. It’s a great time for all of us.”

Stevie Nicks just needs to take a deep breath, smoke a joint and get on with it.

Lindsey's "team-player" comments made me think of old interviews, when Mick said he sometimes had to remind Lindsey that he was in a band. I do think they've each proven at different times over the years, that they're "team players" -- they're just not always on the same page at the same time.
I find it intriguing that Lindsey has, in three different interviews now, spoken with certainty that Stevie will be recording with the band after the tour -- while Mick is hedging and saying, "we hope she will."
Is Mick simply being superstitious and not wanting to "jinx" things by saying something more absolute? I still can't imagine Lindsey saying Stevie is planning to join them in the studio and has assured them of such, if she really hasn't. He doesn't pull punches, even when they're getting along. That 2013 Rolling Stone Q&A demonstrates as much. For that matter, his comments in this interview regarding Stevie's solo career do as well.
I'm more inclined to believe and trust in Lindsey than I am with Mick.
Mr. Fleetwood LOVES to stir the pot and create drama where there is none.
Indeed. And we fans buy into it. The "realists," the optimists, and the pessimists alike.

I honestly want all new songs for this album but I would hurl myself down a flight of stairs for a Sad Angel cut with Christine on vocals and keys. That track just oozes the Mac sound and amazingly transitioned onto the stage.
If this album winds up being a Tango Part Deux I wouldn't necessarily complain as it's my second favorite Rumours-era album but I just hope when the day comes that Stevie brings her stuff to the table, it isn't in a somewhat limited capacity. She brought her A game for Say You Will, imho... (Thrown Down, Destiny Rules, Everybody Finds Out, Garden and even the title track are all great listens) ...hopefully she'll do so again.

I honestly want all new songs for this album but I would hurl myself down a flight of stairs for a Sad Angel cut with Christine on vocals and keys. That track just oozes the Mac sound and amazingly transitioned onto the stage.
...
^ This. I think Sad Angel is a pretty decent pop song that would be great with Christine's participation.

Are we even sure they will put christine's voice on the tracks, I mean he said there just going to pull them from the ep and put it on the album. Not re-record and put on the album

It needs better production than Lindsey gave it. I'm not a fan of how he produced the song, the sounds...they have no edge to them, the songs.
Totally impressed with this interviewer!! It was so refreshing to not hear "so what's it like to be in a band full of exes, must be real interesting, a ha ha ha ha." Lindsey seemed so impressed that somebody actually cared to do their homework and ask questions outside of the normal BS that they get in almost every single interview.

My vote for the new Mac album title: Otherwise Engaged
What a great interview. Love how he tries to shame Stevie into doing the album. lol
Edit: Actually Bleed to Love Her would be perfect for this tour, as it's as much a Dance song as a SYW song AND it's famous as a Dance song because of the visually illiterate readings of the illusory eye-line matches between Lindsey and Christine. My faith in cycles says it should be in the set.
I love your title...genuis!!!
I would love to hear BTLH on this tour...and how about Steal Your Heart Away? I love that song and with the three part harmony on stage I think it would be killer.
I think Lindsey is enormously talented but he is very guarded in interviews. I feel like he chooses every single word so carefully that it becomes annoying. I had to listen to this interview in two parts because it seems like he takes forever to make his point. Yes, he's a smart cookie but I feel like the walls are up when he's answering questions. He sounds to me like a politician participating in a debate.

It's Marketing 101...Stevie's participation in the new FM recording project will be announced after the 24K project/promotion gets played out. My prediction is within a month or so....duh...
I don't think we'll hear anything for a while and I don't think it has anything to do with Stevie's solo album. I also don't think we're going to get an "announcement". By the way, Lindsey is already saying that Stevie will be involved and Mick is hopeful. I guess they're screwing up her 24k promotion by even talking about her, huh?

Their loose lips have completely tanked that album. No one is supposed to know she's in Fleetwood Mac .

As funny as that is, there's so much truth to it. And I think that's what pisses Lindsey and Mick off.

Any questions to Stevie about a new FM album are definitely off the table. That's very telling in my opinion. Everyone else in the band responds to this question except her. Very telling. You're breaking my heart Stevie!
I'm just curious do we have an actual source for this or is this Ledgies taking speculation at face value again. Do we *know for a fact* that Nicks' "will not take questions about a new FM album" or do we just think it's very likely this is the case?

This is all so absurd. News of a new FM album could actually HELP 24 Karat...it would generate a little more buzz. The whole "while we wait for that, we've got this other similar project you would enjoy." It could be a tasty appetizer.
Why Stevie is not speaking of participating and why the band are being so ominous in their suggestions of "hope" and "one way or another" is beyond me. Maybe something deeper is happening behind the scenes? Or is it simply that Stevie cannot stomach the idea of working with Lindsey in this way again? I'm thinking it's the latter. She worked hard for her artistic I freedom and won't take well to her traditionally-recessed role while the band makes its first effing record in close to 30 years. Good lord. Just give them three songs-- anything. She must have notebooks full of things they can work on.

Hello all---
I find it very interesting that Christine jumped back into the band and immediately handed over several piano and voice demos to Lindsey, with which he then took "massive liberties." They've both commented about how excited they are about writing, arranging, and recording those new songs.
On the other hand, we have Stevie, who has made it clear that she resents Lindsey changing her songs.
But I suspect this dramatic difference has more than a little to do with how Lindsey himself treats each of these ladies as collaborators. Clearly he views Christine as an equal. Does he view Stevie in the same light?
Similarly, they also view him differently. Christine seems to realize that he is able to bring something new and unique forth from her songs. Maybe Christine is simply more confident in herself and can handle Lindsey's suggestions without taking them to heart, but Stevie can't help feeling that Lindsey is trying to change her creations.

in the recent interview linked to in the other thread, he does say of Christine that "she is a working musician" and so that gives them a common basis to work from. It doesn't take much to infer that he doesn't see Stevie in the same way-- and she is not, in fact, a working musician in any way. So I think you're right he approaches each of them differently musically. And of course he has none of the baggage with Chris that he has with Stevie. 45 year baggage. You'd think that sh*t would get too heavy to carry after all these years (for both of them) and yet…..

Stevie has spoken about the new music, though only to say she hasn't heard it yet. Still, it makes me doubt there's some sort of gag order on asking her about it.
Given the fact that she has so many other things to talk about right now, and interviewers have so many things to ask her about, maybe whether or not she'll participate just simply hasn't come up. And, as I've said previously, perhaps she doesn't think she needs to say she'll be participating. In her mind, it could be a foregone conclusion now that Christine is back.
Again, it's really only Mick who has said that he "hopes" Stevie will join them in the studio. Lindsey and Christine have talked in far more certain terms. ("Stevie has assured us she'll be ready to record after the tour." "Stevie is planning on joining us in the studio after the tour." "Stevie will come in after the tour, and we'll finish what we've been working on.")
I know some fans would feel more reassured if Stevie herself would say it, but I'm satisfied with the comments from Chris & Lindsey -- and I neither believe that they are blowing smoke nor do I believe they're trying to convince/coerce Stevie via comments to the press.

But before he left the band, Stevie wanted Lindsey to change her creations and pouted when he didn't.
For instance in 1997 she said,
"He could take my songs and do what I would do if I had musical talent. When he wasn't angry with me, that is. That's why there's seven or eight great songs, and there's 50 more where he wasn't happy with me and didn't help me."
He saw her the way she saw herself. I think at some point though, maybe around TISL, she began to see that with the right collaborator, she could shape and produce her music, even if she was not a musician. When she worked with Lindsey after that she wasn't as dependent on his vision any more and their creative dynamic fell apart.

I would have thought she realized that long before 97, especially after all the solo success. By 97 she'd had 5 solo albums without his help. maybe she just meant specifically her mac stuff… though they weren't recording together in 97. 98 if you count The Dance recording but that's not much new stuff for her (just one song). THeir next recording together was SYW and that was 2002 they were recording…. who the hell knows with them

Has Stevie ever explicitly said which FM songs she wasn't happy with? (Besides Say You Will) I'm very interested if anyone has more info on which of the songs she considers great and the other 50 she says he wasn't happy with her for. That's the thing, if you're a songwriter, why would you put something out if you're not absolutely happy with it?
Also, wouldn't Stevie have not been dependent on Lindsey from Bella Donna, with Edge of Seventeen and other songs?
