14 or 15 songs
I didn't before but I do think it will include songs from the EP
5/6 Lindsey songs
4 Christine songs
4 Stevie Songs
1 "Group song" ( could be written by one/two of them or all but a Chain/In the back of my Mind track)
There will be at least on track with a Lindsey/ Christine duo (like Don't Stop, World Turning, Hold Me)
A Lindsey Stevie duo (like I Don't Want To Know, Without You)

I don't think this will be a Rumours 2 but this will be the closest thing to their first two albums,

This will not be a 33 city tour. Christine HAD to commit long term--Lindsey has said this repeatedly. They did not want another Dance tour where they have huge momentum and CM packs it in after 35 shows. They ALL (Stevie included) want to go full tilt and make the most of this opportunity. This will be the last tour for all 5.

I think they are waiting to see how sales go (they will be fine) to (possibly) add shows to current markets. Secondary markets will happen in 2015. They wanted the major markets first--guaranteed money first. There is no room to add markets to this initial run. There will be more later. I would guess those later shows would get announced later this summer.
As previously mention, they have had discussions about group activities for the next few years. Not just this one tour. My guess is that'll include an album and another tour. But even if they put an album out after this tour it seems like they will have toured quite a bit between this tour and last year's tour. In any case, Christine is back full time, not just for this one tour, so whatever the band does she'll do. I doubt this is a farewell tour.

I would love to know what really happened during the recording of Say You Will because I honestly think that whatever it was is what is making Stevie noncommittal now.

LOL, "not obstinate?" Don't you think that Lindsey would be announcing only too gladly that she is back in the studio with the band if she were? He's been lobbying publicly so hard for it, and now we are supposed to believe that she's in there and he's decided to get all secretive about it?

Uhm, where in anything that I wrote, did I say that Stevie's already in the studio working with them and Lindsey's just keeping it mum?

I did say that, for all we know, it's possible she's visited them in the studio. But I never once suggested (nor do I believe) that she's working/recording with them yet.

If you're going to razz me for something, at least make sure it's something I actually said.

from your mouth... that would be great!!

the way things seem to be going, with no new album before / during the tour, i don't expect to see LB solo before the time when he can barely walk around with the cane. i expect revolving FM tour with the same songs over and over (let's face it it's been since 1977 they've been playing pretty much the same setlist :p) for the next 5 years or whenever one of them drops dead.

The question is how many "Fleetwood Mac cash grab tours" can the market stand in a short period of time??? They toured in 2013 will be doing shows in 2014 and it's expected they will continue touring in 2015...2017 will be a big year for FM with it being the bands 50th anniversary not to mention the 40th for "Rumours" and I'm quite sure WB will be issuing a "Rumours super special deluxe 40th box set" and WB will want an FM tour to promote it...

Noooooooooo. The Rumours reissues are done. It's either Mirage and Tango as far as re hashing past stuff for this tour with the new album.

I think it's time to start a letter and email-writing campaign to Warner Bros for 'Mirage' and 'Tango' expanded remasters. They're long overdue. Plus, "Everywhere" (in the UK) and "Seven Wonders" (in the US) each had renewed popularity last year and a return to the charts, thanks to the 3 #DancePonyDance commercial and American Horror Story: Coven, respectively. So there's certainly an interest in the band's music from that era.

Will WB invest the time & money on re mastering Mirage & Tango when it's possible that they will loose the rights to those albums in the near future?

I'm not talking about FM changing labels...I'm talking about artists (FM) being able to get the rights/ownership of their recordings back after WB owning them for 35 years...
http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/don-henley-record-companies-not-going-to-roll-over-on-copyright-issue-20110907

If there is as chance WB will forfeit ownership of FM's catalog starting with Tusk (albums before 1978 are excluded.. Can you imagine WB loosing Rumors) will WB spend the money re mastering albums if they have to give ownership back to FM after 35 years?

Thanks for the article. I remember reading something about that a while back, but had forgotten.

If there's any chance WB might lose 'Mirage' in three years and 'Tango' in eight, that seems like all the more reason they should try to make as much money on them while they can.

Come on, Warner Bros....

thanks for that link. Here's an interesting piece (it's a Q&A with Don Henley on the issue):

What are the options?

Artists have several things they can do. They can re-up with the label and use this as leverage to renegotiate a recording agreement. They can invoke termination rights and take back their master recordings and see what they can do themselves. If they get it back, they can shop it around and see if anybody else wants it – another label or an indie label or they might market it themselves on the Internet. Or artists can go back and re-record everything

I hardly think FM's organizational skills (or lack of) lend themselves to the band doing the internet self-marketing thing. But I can certainly imagine them leveraging ownership of the tapes to get a recording deal (i.e. allowing Warner's to keep ownership longer if they give the band a recording deal… but I don't trust Warner's to do it right that is, I could easily see WB negotiating to keep ownership of the masters, giving the band a deal, and then not really promoting the new music.) I'd rather see the band shop ownership around and get a new deal on a new label.

Carson Daly www.nbc.com/last-call-with-carson-daly
from last night's show Carson is reporting that the first song
for the new Fleetwood Mac album is completed.

Mentioned only, not played over end credits. You have
to go to the website to see the lyrics. I copied them before
they were taken down.

It's new to me. At least I've never heard her sing it before.

Walking In The Shadows

I know you're a lonely man and I love you
Someone else is waiting and she owns you
If she should ever wake up, be sure your story is straight love

If you talk in your sleep don't mention my name
If you walk in your sleep, forget where you came

Walking every night here in the shadows
So afraid that sometimes you may follow
There's always a chance she'll find us
So I don't need to remind you...

If you talk in your sleep don't mention my name
If you walk in your sleep, forget where you came

Love is so much sweeter when it's borrowed
I'll feel a little easier tomorrow
Don't give our secret away
Be careful of what you say

If you talk in your sleep don't mention my name
If you walk in your sleep, forget where you came

Forget where you came now
Don't mention my name

Forget where you came

That has to have been written during or after Say You Will

so.

There's certainly no beating around the bush in that song.
Direct and to the point. Very bold for Stevie, especially
considering the circumstances.

Weird coincidence. Very similar to the Presley classic.

You have to wonder if Jerry Scheff had been playing
that during the Buckingham Nicks sessions. Elvis I
believe recorded that song in late '73. So it's quite
possible that Stevie heard an early version of it and
it influenced this new song.

It's all making sense now. But still I'd like to know
exactly when Stevie's version was written?

Aren't you overreacting a bit?

If the title mentioned that Stevie or whomever had passed away
you might have a point. Can't you read the lyrics and just imagine
that it just might be Stevie's (Fleetwood Mac's) new song?

If you choose not to believe that's their new song, that's fine.
But don't ruin it for everyone that likes the story. What did
Jack Nicholson say...this forum* needs and enema.

Read on those who are interested in the Elvis/Buckingham Nicks
era. Interesting how that encounter came about. And now 40
years later a song possibly tied to them makes it way onto the
new album. It's not a lie if you believe it's true.

Los Angeles: Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac are collaborating on their first new material in 15 years. The band is hitting the road, including sold-out shows at the Forum in Inglewood, this year with McVie rejoining the storied group.

So Christine was never in Nashville with Dave and Stevie:shrug:That does kind of make sense though.Christine hasn't gone anywhere near a Stevie Nicks solo album in the 33 year history of making them .

She may have been. They've been there since Easter weekend... Plenty if time for her to have come back.

This picture makes me so happy for new FM material. And yes, they are super tan.

When was the picture taken? Just because it just showed up doesn't mean it wasn't taken aces months ago.
Lindsey never looks happy. Do you think he's a bitter person? Always my assumption but don't know. He also seems equal to stevie in the diva behavior.

I met him three times in one week. He's a dedicated man, but soft, humorous and extremely friendly and kind. No bitterness experienced back then. (2008)

Bitter? Never. His forehead isn't even furrowed. In fact he has the inklings of a smile in this picture, like he's getting ready to, or just did. This isn't his blue steel serious face.

Gee, and people wonder why Stevie seems leery of recording with Fleetwood Mac, but excited about another solo projected with Dave Stewart? What a mystery...one place her ideas are respected and listened too, the other even the "fans" assume the band think of her as a "dumb diva." She's 65 years old, a cultural icon who generations of younger artists look up to and still she gets no respect at home with Fleetwood Mac.

Well, both Christine and Mick believe in the spiritual. I don't know if John and Lindsey do. But they probably don't think a spirit catcher is that unusual a thing.

Christine said her mother slept with someone's glove and cured them of leukemia or something. Although I do think they try to gloss over Stevie's dramatic gibber, like when Mick told Stevie they'd spent 6 months trying NOT to be Fleetwood Mac. He seemed to be trying to tamp things down a bit.

I think it's pretty clear that she would be getting mad props and generating much excitement if she were there. Chris is back after 15 years... it's what 30 years since Tango (which stevie sat out pretty much). I mean it's been half a century since did the white album. And Stevie isn't there with them through all of this? It is very disappointing. It just is.

I think disappointing is the exact word I'm feeling. Even though I goof on her, I want her there and giving her input.

It's almost as if she feels, (pure speculation). Ok fine, Christine gets Lindsey and I get Dave. I'm ok with that as long as she contributes to the actual FM recordings. Which I truly believe she will.

In Stevie's defense she has a huge tour booked with them after just doing a tour. I'm giving it a wait and see before I start foaming. And I will if she blows this opportunity.

I think that Stevie has unresolved issues about being Lindsey's wife and feeling cut off from that time. Dave provides a sense of security that Lindsey has yet to express. He needs to allow himself to get back to feeing "that they were as good as married". As he starts to feel his age he and Stevie might start actually getting along without the war for domination and control. I'm not in anyway saying he doesn't love Kristen but he will feel he has more understanding with Stevie because of shared experince and age. the truce is drawn there will be a beautiful musical channeling of what love is really. We should all be thanking Dave for his help in getting her in a vulnerable place to let Lindsey give her security after all these years. And she will finally let him. Dave made for good practice he is gentle and could've been a therapist. These will be the best songs of honesty from mama nicks. I need u you know me I felt no uncertainty and healing love. Then they can die and the other will feel peace about being left behind.

Stevie really expects to live a long time, just because all of the women in her family did. I love her confidence. She thinks she's going to be burying them right and left.

Lindsey's brother was younger than his father when he passed away. But Jeff is older than Lindsey. So far, so good.

Mick's mom is still dancing.

Sorry to disappoint you. I'm not an old hippie. I didn't even live through the hippie generation. I just happen to believe in respect. People pass through my life every day with ideas and quirks that I neither like nor agree with, but I still try to respect them and their right to have them. Obviously Stevie is hippie dippie; that's her schtick, always has been. But she also lived in Arizona for much of her life. Have you ever spent much time in the southwest? Native American culture/art/traditions/beliefs/etc are far more ingrained as a part of the collective consciousness there than the rest of the US. Folks display things like spirit catchers & such with little or no irony. Plus, when it comes to things like that... it's subliminal. If you believe that a particular object will bring good luck/vibes/whatever, that'll be in the back of your & everyone else's minds every time you see it. The spirit catcher could have been Stevie's way of saying "be nice. I'm the only girl left now." Kind of like the way people wearing crosses reminds you of their faith, and the way you should interact with them.

And there's nothing wrong with that. On the other hand, if you don't say: 'be nice, I'm the only girl left now' literally, but expect (male) others to interpret it that way, the risk of not achieving what you try to communicate, is pretty big.

I see why people think that, but I think it's shameful for anyone to mock something that gives another person peace of mind or good vibes or whatever the hell. Live and let live. If someone wants to carry around a spirit catcher then that's all the better for them, who am I to judge? We've all got our quirks.

And I think "grounded, normal, realistic" is maybe a bit of an exaggeration, if we're talking about the rest of FM.

Her fear gone, Christine McVie's muse soars with Fleetwood Mac reunion

photo: Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac are collaborating once again. (Michael Robinson Chavez / Los Angeles Times)

Randy Lewis

May 2, 2014, 6:30 a.m.

Christine McVie eases comfortably into the corner of a leather sofa, about a foot between her and Lindsey Buckingham. He leans forward and side by side, they listen to the playback of "Too Far Gone," a danceable new Fleetwood Mac song they've written together over the last few weeks at a West Los Angeles recording studio.

"This was a great collaboration," Buckingham said. "I had a track without any singing on it, and she wrote the song over it."

"We've been doing that quite a bit lately, haven't we?" McVie said.

Helping McVie write songs, Buckingham said to her, "is something you always wanted me to do for you, which was not necessarily the case with Stevie. She's a little more complicated in her needs."

It's a scene that would have been pure rock 'n' roll fantasy barely two years ago.

At that point, McVie was securely ensconced in her 17th century mansion in rural northern England, having retired from touring and recording with a band she'd been part of for a quarter century. Crippled by a fear of flying that made the idea of a trip to Los Angeles — or anywhere else — unthinkable, the '70s rock goddess stopped touring in 1998 and spent much of her time cooking and gardening.

But last week, the woman who wrote and sang many of the group's cornerstone songs, including "Don't Stop," "You Make Loving Fun," and "Little Lies," traded banter cheerfully with Buckingham, who expressed sheer delight at resuming the creative relationship they'd once enjoyed, both saying they've not only picked up where they left off, but agreeing that "it's better than ever."

In fact, it's the same studio they built 35 years ago when the British-American band was starting work on one of the most ambitious projects of the group's storied career, the two-disc "Tusk" album, which followed blockbuster "Rumours," one of the 10 bestselling albums of all time.

After a smiling McVie flashes double thumbs-up to engineer Mark Needham, Mick Fleetwood squeezes his unmistakable 6-foot-5 inch frame through the control room door and starts munching a forkful of salad out of a green plastic container. He grabs a digital camera off a coffee table and points it at his bandmates. McVie obliges him by twisting her mouth into a goofy grimace as he snaps the shot.

"There was some worry about whether it was a good idea to come back here," said Fleetwood, 66. "Maybe it would be better to go someplace new, someplace we hadn't worked before. But since we started working here, it couldn't be more fantastic."

F. Scott Fitzgerald's observation that "there are no second acts in American lives" notwithstanding, it appears that the Grammy-winning quintet is positioning itself for precisely that.

Of the band's five members, only Stevie Nicks isn't on the premises, busy attending to other commitments, they say. While Christine McVie and Buckingham signed off on the latest tweaks to "Too Far Gone," John McVie and Fleetwood worked on other facets of the new material.

McVie's return to the fold for an upcoming full-band reunion tour, announced in January, was surprise enough to music fans who'd been assured for a decade and a half that McVie had checked out of Fleetwood Mac and wasn't coming back. But things began to change a couple of years ago, when she began to reassess her decision.

She continued to write in her self-imposed retirement, and put out an appealing solo album in 2004, "In the Meantime." It was that project that helped plant the seed for her eventual return.

"It had some good songs on it, but I went about it all wrong, " said McVie, 70, still looking the part of the quintessential rock 'n' roll singer and songwriter in her brown leather jacket, over a white tank top and tight black jeans. "I did it the wrong way, with the wrong people, I didn't want to fly, I didn't want to promote it. I just did it in my garage and nothing happened with it. That caused a certain amount of angst, and then I just stopped."

Then a couple of years ago, she sought out a therapist to help her with the fear of flying. "He asked me, 'If you were to go anywhere in the world, where would you want to go?' I thought about it for a little bit, and I said 'Hawaii.'

"He said, 'Buy your ticket.' Then he said, 'You don't have to use it. Just buy it'," she said. Buckingham laughs at her revelation, saying, "I didn't know that part."

After a period of being gradually desensitized to the idea of flying, she said Fleetwood drove to her home to meet her, and together they got on a plane to Maui. There she joined him and her ex-husband, John McVie, at a performance by their blues band.

"I did a couple of songs there, it felt good onstage, and then I thought, I'm really missing out on something—something that's mine, that I've just given up, and I'm not paying respect to my own gift," she said. "I saw that if I want to start to play again, there's only one band I want to play with, and that's Fleetwood Mac."

That led to her first appearance in 15 years with Buckingham, Nicks, McVie and Fleetwood when the 80% edition of the group performed at the O2 Arena in London last year, a one-night reunion that set the stage for her return to the band.

http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/music/la-et-cm-fleetwood-mac-20140502,0,3614909.story#ixzz30ZK2IWmC

and part 2 -

That would have been reason enough for Fleetwood Mac fans to celebrate, but as McVie put it, her return wasn't simply for the full-group reunion tour now scheduled to start in the fall.

"I committed to join the band hook, line and sinker — recording, everything," she said.

Having overcome her flying fears, a new sense of liberation is manifesting in McVie through an outpouring of songwriting, much of it with Buckingham. Over the last eight weeks, Buckingham said they've written and recorded eight new songs, which will help populate a new Fleetwood Mac album along with seven or eight more the band recorded about 18 months ago while gearing up for a 2013 tour.

Another McVie-Buckingham collaboration they previewed, "How I Feel," is a buoyant number with all the markings of a hit.

"There's a lot of pop in what we've been doing," Buckingham, 64, says with a giddy smile, his signature shock of kinky hair still shooting skyward even as it has morphed over the years from dark brown to salt-and-pepper shades.

Following this round of recording, the album will be shelved while they gear up for the new tour, which opens Sept. 30 in Minneapolis and includes three nights at the Forum in Inglewood.

"I think we both came in with a certain level of ... not anxiety, but acknowledging that there were certain unknowns as to how this was going to go, or where it was going to go, or whether it would only get so far and then hit the wall," Buckingham said. "It's almost like the whole being greater than the sum of the parts, which was always a way to describe Fleetwood Mac.

"When someone takes such a long hiatus, you don't know if that was a moment in time; if that [working relationship] is still there," he said. "You know the potential is still there, but are the tools for getting in touch with it still there? But actually, it's better than ever, wouldn't you say?"

"Absolutely," McVie said instantaneously. "You've heard what the tour is called?" she asks, as if to underscore the theme of rejuvenation for the new chapter in the continuing story that is Fleetwood Mac. "On With the Show," she said, answering her own question.

Working together again, Buckingham said, "has been a really profound couple of months. I can't think of anything better for the next act for this band."

Considering how much is already done (16 songs according to this article), I wonder why they're shelving it. There's plenty of time for rehearsals later.

Release it so they can do the promotion for it before and during the tour.

So many wonderful tid bits of information from that article but this is my favorite quote:"I did a couple of songs there, it felt good onstage, and then I thought, I'm really missing out on something—something that's mine, that I've just given up, and I'm not paying respect to my own gift," she said. "I saw that if I want to start to play again, there's only one band I want to play with, and that's Fleetwood Mac."
It is very nice to know there will be a bunch of Bucky-McVie co written songs. How lovely they gave us 2 titles to think about. Elle, you were correct in your prediction that Lindsey is using the remaining songs originally recorded for the EP. I wonder though, besides the songs he's written with Christine if he has written any new songs by himself since Chris' return that he might contribute to the FM record. I'm sure this makes a lot of you want this BuckVie album released immediately.

This sounds absurd, but it sounds like stevie is sitting this one out. I don't understand....

Stevie has got to be smarter than that....the entire band is intact making new music and you decide not to be part of it and make a solo album instead??

Unless she is in fact, rolling songs from the Nashville sessions into the new Mac record...you would think they would of mentioned something about stevie's contributions coming later, instead they say next to nothing!

Then maybe Stevie's solo record WILL be released this month or next, because if she shelves hers as well until after the tour, then the two releases would compete against each other, which would be dumb.

1. Stevie had already committed to working on a solo album before Chris's return
2. The reason they are shelving it is because they are waiting for Stevie to add her contributions

What a fantastic article! It sounds like Christine is really in a great place.

So, between the two songs referenced here, and the remaining songs the band recorded last year, the songs for the new album potentially include:

Too Far Gone (CM/LB)
How I Feel (CM/LB)
Hunger (LB)
In My World (LB)
Is It Right (LB)
Lay Down For Free (LB)
On With The Show (LB)
Up Your Speed (LB)

Stevie's off doing other things. They aren't going to release an album without Stevie whether we'd like to or not. They're really going at it. I wish Stevie were doing the same. I wonder if she can match their level of creativity for this.

It said she's off doing other commitments. It doesn't say when she committed to them. There's no indication it was before Christine returned (which has been in the works a lot longer than when they made the announcement) Or that it wasn't, but certainly that can't be deduced from this.

I think that's deliberate on their part. Like when Lindsey was writing songs and saying things in the media designed to get her to work on the EP.

I think the way they are deliberately presenting themselves to the media as having such a great time, and look how easy LB is to collaborate with, (not that I think that none of that is true, I just think they are really hyping it) is designed to make Stevie look obstinate or whatever for not joining in. "Hey, here we all are having a blast in the studio and where's Stevie? We'd love for her to be here but……she's off doing other things". I think for now they were careful not to go that far and were respectful in referencing what she was doing but the message was there underneath.

In the Destiny Rules doco, the scene where Stevie brought a spirit catcher into the studio was very funny, I thought. Lindsey's condescending reaction was priceless and Mick's disinterest was obvious. I can't remember if John was even in the room at the time.

I agree that referring to Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood, Christine McVie, John McVie and Stevie Nicks as a group of "grounded, normal, realistic people" is obviously an exaggeration. I don't think "grounded, normal, realistic people" would have regularly snorted cocaine for a decade lol.

Finally, the arguments I've read in this thread amuse me no end. Chiffonheads vs Guitar Heroes!!!

I presume that many comments made here have been intended as sarcastic or ironic.

michelej1

And I'm guessing that you also don't see why....ugh...."grounded, normal, realistic people", see things like her spirit catcher:lol::lol::lol:, as sheer lunacy. Something to be mocked. And I'm almost certain that Lindsey and Chris feel the same way.

That's the thing. I don't know about Lindsey. But Christine's mother was a PSYCHIC. She used to go away on ghost-hunting trips. I don't know if Chris believes in ghosts, but she did believe in her mother's healing and psychic power and she believes in her brother's too. I don't think she thinks spirit catchers are crazy.

From Mick's last column where he gave some psychic $5000 and walked away with his other last $5000 in his shoe, I don't believe HE thinks spirit catchers are crazy.

I don't know about John and Lindsey, but Mick did say one time he walked in and saw John praying to his "Gods" (plural) to help him on the album and that's when Mick knew things had gotten out of hand, because John wasn't that type of person.

So, I don't know if most of the group thinks spiritcatchers are crazy. But yes, I think they think Stevie is fairly crazy. I think all of them Mick, Lindsey and Stevie are crazy in different ways, though.

Sorry to disappoint you. I'm not an old hippie. I didn't even live through the hippie generation. I just happen to believe in respect. People pass through my life every day with ideas and quirks that I neither like nor agree with, but I still try to respect them and their right to have them. And I hope that respect is returned in kind...But to each their own, feel free to mock me.

I, like you, am not an old hippie. I'm 20. So someone called you a hippie? Doesn't that mean you're someone whose political views are left of centre? Some who is anti-establishment and smokes a lot of weed?

If the person who called you a hippie intended it as an insult, they could do better. It's a rather weak insult especially coming from some internet stranger.

I also believe in respect. When other people's views don't match our own though, I think you'd understand that it can feel a little jarring, yeah?

If Stevie Nicks dumped a "spirit catcher" in my recording studio I'd be thinking to myself "What the f--- is that thing? It looks like some sort of abstract art. Oh it's a spirit catcher, Stevie? And how does it catch spirits? And how is that going to help us make a good album?"

That's what I'd think. What I'd say would simply be something like "Oh okay that's great. It looks very...interesting...um...I don't know where you should put it. Maybe on the mantelpiece."

I guess my point is, yes it's great that we respect other people's views when they differ from our own. Even though we don't hold it against a person that she has different views to us, we might still think she's a bit kooky (even if we don't say that out loud).

Ah...I need to get some sleep. It's 3 am in Australia.

[B]"This was a great collaboration," Buckingham said. "I had a track without any singing on it, and she wrote the song over it."

So, I always thought this album would be like Tango and it sounds like it is -- without Eddy. That's how Christine described Tango, that she put music to one of Lindsey's songs and did the reverse and put words to one of his songs without music.

I also think it's funny that we were wishing he could do Gone Too Far with the Mac and they end up having a song called Too Far Gone.

Very happy with this.

The bottom line, is that Stevie & Lindsey have too much baggage to co-write together now. yeah it's pretty transparent from both sides. like in 2012/13 when they were discussing this same album and potentially releasing some of the songs before 2013 tour.

you think FM foursome sent the article to SN as a heads up? it would seem there may be some such clauses that they all at least need to inform each other what they are putting out in press under FM heading. and since they mention at least 15, maybe 16 songs done, i'm highly amused by that exact same number of songs in DS's tweet.

Dave and Stevie should let Christine and Lindsey slap vocals on 3 of the songs Dave produced for Stevie and put those on an FM album along with the songs Christine and Lindsey have forged together and then put out an album. They are not going to work together as a group of 5, so work together as a group of 4 and 1 and let's just get something done.

it's interesting that at the start of 2014 SN said she has no idea what she will do in the first part of 2014, before they start tour rehearsals, that her schedule is wide open.

at about the same time Mick was mentioning in some interview at the beginning of 2014 that 4 out of 5 members of FM will go into the studio in march.

Right. Their reaction to Stevie was perfectly polite. And anyway, they had known the woman for 30 years, I don't think .... I don't think you have any particular reaction to the crazy things someone you love and know well may or may not do after all of that time.

I can't remember what Mick did in the documentary. Did he take his shirt off when he exercised or do something zany? I can't recall now, but I remember thinking that, "When he does something strange like that, the others don't even raise an eyebrow anymore. They're so used to each other's eccentricities."

Stevie once was talking about the new crop of young singers (i.e. Britney) and how they capitalize on shock value not realizing that the shock eventually wears off. Stevie said when you see a naked person often enough, you just stop looking up when they pass. That's how I feel about FM. They have seen each other do so many wacky things, that they become inured to it, even if they thought it was strange in the beginning. Probably by 1980 it was "yawn, that again?"

Dave and Stevie should let Christine and Lindsey slap vocals on 3 of the songs Dave produced for Stevie and put those on an FM album along with the songs Christine and Lindsey have forged together and then put out an album. They are not going to work together as a group of 5, so work together as a group of 4 and 1 and let's just get something done.

it's interesting that at the start of 2014 SN said she has no idea what she will do in the first part of 2014, before they start tour rehearsals, that her schedule is wide open.

at about the same time Mick was mentioning in some interview at the beginning of 2014 that 4 out of 5 members of FM will go into the studio in march.

we were speculating at the time who will not be in the studio, and most thought it's John because of his treatments. this article clears up any of that confusion. John was there with them.

It's apparent now, that Stevie was being reticent on purpose (which many of us already believed). Stevie signed a 5 record contract with WBR in 1996, hence her commitment to begin this 5th solo release w/ Reprise. Fleetwood Mac does not have any contractual deal in place to release these new recordings. Stevie is not going to be promoting a record to the press/media that has not been agreed upon or signed on the dotted line.

or better yet, just add a few songs done by dave and stevie as they are, without any additions, to the rest of the songs done by the 4 macsters, and put the album out.

that way we'll have to read the complaints from shackinup and rockaway about uneven production, but that's still better than having to read how lindsey & christine's *horrible* vocals ruined stevie's sublime songs. ;)

To be fair, more people complained that Stevie's voice ruined Lindsey's GOS songs than ever complained that his voice ruined her songs. The main complaint was that his production ruined it. They didn't talk about his voice. I liked his voice on Thrown Down and EFO and I liked her voice on Miranda.

In concert though, I did see people saying that Lindsey was yelling on Dreams and made them jump every time he sang harmony, because his voice was so discordant. That made me laugh, but I don't even know that they were wrong. Lindsey is always yelling in concert. In fact, I was mesmerized during the UTS tour when Not Too Late started soft, but by the end of the tour he was screaming the lyrics on that one too. He's a character.

I agree with you about people talking about uneven production. Let's just try to have consistent production on 2/3 of the album and let Dave and Stevie have carte blanche on their 1/3.

Lindsey should keep his paws off of that. Don't even play guitar on it, because I don't want him to be accused of hogging or showboating instrumentally on her songs.

That reminds me of Rhiannon in concert, though. Hey, Christine is back, maybe we can get the old guitar riff back on that song.

They all seem to be pretty secure with themselves. In regards to Stevie showing up with the Spirit Catcher I doubt she thought "hum wonder what the guys will think of this? Karen do you think I should bring it or not..will they think I'm too weird?"

exactly! and people keep discussing their excitement, so why keep amping up the negativity?

that said....... if you think nobody should criticize your favorite member or have a little fun at their expense, maybe you need to just stay in the forum that's dedicated to that specific member. i took a look into SN forum and there's tons of spitting on LB's musical contributions as well as name-calling of his fans - but it's SN forum, a place where her fans can play together and enjoy their groupthink.

if you come to the Rumours forum, it makes sense to have discussions from all angles and expect equal praise and criticizing of all FM members; not everyone will think that your favorite farts rainbows while everyone else can make nothing but crap ;). so if you can't stand your favorite being criticized and the only thing you have to contribute to the discussion is expressing your outrage over that, maybe you shouldn't be coming to the band forum.

yes, there are many many LB fans who left TL and don't think it's worth to ever come back here anymore. but lately there has been some newcomers on all sides and they are throwing some interesting opinions or knowledge in the mix, so there's at least a bit of discussion now. and open discussion without walking on eggshells all the time shouldn't be a bad thing.

So, between the two songs referenced here, and the remaining songs the band recorded last year, the songs for the new album potentially include:

How I Feel (CM/LB)
Family Party (LB)
Hunger (LB)
I'm A Jazz Man (LB)
In My World (LB)
Is It Right (LB)
Lay Down For Free (LB)
On With The Show (LB)

This is great news!

8 songs!!

Plus the other existing 8.

Christine has really valued collaboration since her 1984 solo album. She's a team player. And there's no doubt she really wanted Lindsey to work WITH her on songs. But why, oh why, does he have to be such an a** sometimes? "That's something you always wanted me to do FOR you..." I'm sure he didn't mean it as an insult, but the guy really doesn't have a sense of tact.

The comment about Stevie's needs being more complicated is certainly a dig. A public criticism of her. Implied in it, too, is his sense that she needs him but won't admit it. She, in turn, is pretty much publicly showing the world she doesn't need HIM and can turn to her other soulmate. It's all so pathetic, really. These two and their ongoing conflicts.

What I wish the article gave us is a teaser of the actual two tunes mentioned! Just a teaser--30 seconds each!!

i agree with everything in this post (especially about the teaser! but if they released the teaser now it really wouldn't make sense to wait for another WHOLE YEAR to release all that new music), except the part that i bolded.

All the conjecture and speculation about the dynamics between Stevie and the rest of the band is really funny to me.

This is how they've always recorded albums together.
I don't see anything different happening this time around, other than a very active/productive Stevie Nicks.
The band does their thing and Stevie is present only when she needs to be.
She has never hung around while all the other parts are worked on.
No need for concern or fake drama -- this is how FM works.

I'm really happy/excited about all of this after reading the article in the LA Times this morning. The fact that Lindsey and Christine are working together without Stevie is great news. Good things always come out of Buckingham/McVie collaborations.

A. Of course they are gonna say the album will be released after the tour because they had just started recording and didn't know how long it would take. Why would they give a date that's sooner with all of the unknowns? Were they really going to say before starting...oh yeah, we are going to release this album we have barely started on within like five or six months.

B. Maybe it's going quicker than they thought. I'm an optimist and think it's possible they may have it ready by the fall. Or not....but it's possible, and the information we're getting is hopeful.

C. Would they prefer to release the album prior or during the first part of the tour? Of course, that's a no brainer!

It's not that the dynamics are new or shocking in themselves. You are absolutely right that this is the way they have always proceeded.

But what is so pathetic is that they are all well over 60, 35 years have passed since their breakups, and yet Lindsey and Stevie in particular cannot change their damn tune! They still take passive aggressive hits on each other through the press, a practice that started in 1978...

You'd think after all this time, they might enjoy each other's company and the gift their collective energy brings with it. Instead, it's business as usual.

If it wasn't cause for concern within the band, it wouldn't be cause for concern for me. But they clearly are having problems with each other.

Before SYW Stevie was telling everyone how she'd given Lindsey her demos. Everyone knew that the band was working without her and she would join her after the TISL work was finished, so fans had nothing to wonder about at all. But this time around the band seems doubtful and as a fan, since they don't know what the future holds, I worry about getting anything other than the tour dates this year that are already carved in stone.

It's a sea of uncertainty, not because Stevie isn't there, but because Stevie isn't there and the band seems worried. Believe me if he wasn't doubtful, Mick's booksigning comments would have been a lot more definite.

The baggage they proclaimed was gone in 1997, 2003, etc? LOL. He was saying this back in the SYW era as well - talking about working from the ground up with her. Amounts to pretty much the same thing.

And yet in 2011 she went on and on and on about how no one could possibly have helped on Soldier's Angel except for him, about how wonderful a job he did, blah blah blah. She's talked plenty about how he's helped her out and improved her songs. And I really see very few Stevie fans who think Lindsey has ruined EVERY song of her since Mirage. Slight exaggeration there. Yes, some people think he cocked up on certain songs on SYW in particular but while some may think he hasn't brought anything TO them, I doubt many think he's made ALL of them worse. Certain Stevie fans seem to have an automatic dislike of anyone 'proving' she's not able to do everything herself, tbh. She may want people to know how successful and great she is on her own, but she also has no hesitation in talking about that Buckingham Nicks entity as extremely important and something she's proud of. SHE'S the one who made that off the cuff comment about running off to Wales to make BNII together, for goodness' sake. :D

She just wants him to be happy. It's better for him and better for her. "Hopefully this record will give him back a sense of purpose and delight. He's in a way better space now and it's wonderful for me to see that. I care about him and his life and what he does and if he's happy. I so want him to be okay. This record is his baby and I really think he's gone and done that great thing he always wanted to do." (2003)

I also frequent L/S/FM Facebook groups, as well as tumblr and twitter - for both extreme L and extreme S fans as well as the in between. I think your perception is slightly off, shall we say, because of inherent biases and opinions that you're going in with...

And yes, it's usually the ones with the most vehement, stringent, resolute opinions who are the loudest. But they're generally a minority and an outlier - one just notices them more because of the 'loudness' and because that opinion sticks in our craw more because of its nature.

Stevie rolls into the SYW sessions with a spirit catcher. It's hilarious. The looks on the guys' faces are priceless. It's open to interpretation, but the feeling I got was... "ummmm ok... let's put it over here."

Oh, come on. They were MUCH more thoughtful. Lindsey was considerate enough to think about it and suggest that if she wanted it to 'flow' out over the whole area than the mantle would be more suitable than in the doorway! :D

Well, it varies by design. The one we're talking about here is a handheld sculpture that Stevie brought to the studio when she started recordings for the SYW album. But there are massive ones too.

"I did a couple of songs there, it felt good onstage, and then I thought, I'm really missing out on something—something that's mine, that I've just given up, and I'm not paying respect to my own gift," she said. "I saw that if I want to start to play again, there's only one band I want to play with, and that's Fleetwood Mac."

there have been some speculations why is Christine coming back. i really believe what she says here is it.

You know, i get the feeling Lindsey prob. doesn't take much stock in the spirit catcher either… but not by anything he said or did- just by what I know of his personality. However, he was verrrrrry careful to be very respectful about it, in my opinion. He definitely was not mocking, on the contrary- I always get the sincere feeling he does not want to piss Stevie off and tries very hard not to- which is to his credit.

I think you brought this up before. The Time album was lacking Stevie AND Lindsey. The tour lacked both of them AND Christine. To put the failure all on Stevie Nicks is ignoring reality. That was going to be a failure even with Stevie. The decline in Fleetwood Mac's popularity began with Lindsey's exit. There was residual interest in Behind the Mask, but without Lindsey it was only going to keep declining.

Christine wasn't planning on making a record on her own. She didn't have to come back. She was retired. To say she had no choice is blatantly false.

If Christine had promoted her album, "In the Meantime" I think it would have done quite well. She had a lot of airplay despite not doing anything with it.
Further, Buckingham Nicks, prior to FMAC was a commercial failure. Without Mick bringing the forces together, Dragoon would not be able to yell at us.

The return of Mark Needham concerns me. I did not care for his contribution to the Say You Will album and thought there was an unpleasant murkiness throughout many of the songs. I remember Stevie's hesitation regarding having Needham mix the album, but then didn't he also end up doing some mixing work on her "Crystal Visions" collection a few years later?

I understand that the band has traditionally recorded without Stevie until she was required, but I honestly thought all members were now at a stage in their lives where they would want to be together, especially on this occasion. It needn't be just about collaboration, but a demonstration of commitment and support. I guess I was hoping that Christine's return and John's illness would make everyone approach the situation in a more inclusive, mature way. I acknowledge the past difficulties between Lindsey and Stevie, but I do get the impression that Lindsey is genuine about wanting to move beyond their emotional baggage and create together in a meaningful way. He has spoken of his desire for them to co-write since the SYW days and properly collaborate on songs from scratch, seemingly so that Stevie would have complete input and not be dissatisfied with the final result. It should also be remembered that upon the completion of the IYD sessions in late 2010, Dave Stewart actually suggested to Stevie that she needed to find a way to co-write with Lindsey so he can't be the stumbling block between them.

When Lindsey speaks of Stevie's complicated needs, it clearly is a none-too-veiled comment on her unwillingness to properly cooperate. Whilst I understand Stevie's position and that she most probably thought these last couple of weeks were an opportune time to knock out some solo recordings, she could potentially piss everyone off by not being present for the Mac, especially if she hasn't already submitted some material of worth. She may not ordinarily care about the fall-out, but Christine is now back in the fold and I suspect she will not easily tolerate Stevie's absence. I wanted Christine to realise how far Stevie has come in terms of her capability and work ethic in the studio these days, but worry she'll just think these latest proceedings are reminiscent of the Tango sessions. If Stevie just decides to breeze in once the bulk of the work has been done, surely this won't sit well with the others, regardless of whether they demonstrate it or not. (I was secretly hoping Christine had attended some of the Nashville recording sessions, if only to gain some insight into what Stevie is currently doing and ensure all was well between them. Of course, this may have happened, but there doesn't seem to be any confirmation of such.)

I guess the best we can hope for at this stage is that Stevie does eventually contribute strong songs to the Mac album and works well with the band once she is present. Hopefully when they tour later this year, the experience will be a positive one and Stevie will feel enthused about contributing to a band album. She needs to be invested in such an undertaking if it's to truly work.

. She's talked plenty about how he's helped her out and improved her songs. And I really see very few Stevie fans who think Lindsey has ruined EVERY song of her since Mirage. Slight exaggeration there. Yes, some people think he cocked up on certain songs on SYW in particular but while some may think he hasn't brought anything TO them, I doubt many think he's made ALL of them worse. )

I loved what he did on a number of her SYW tunes. Yes, they were pretty much worked out before she brought them to the band (she has her own cadre of musicians to help with demos, etc.) but I do see the core trio of FM men putting their stamp on them, especially on "Destiny Rules," "Everybody Finds Out," and "Illume."

Some of her songs in SYW are duds, but then so are a few of Lindsey's as well. He can't be blamed for the quality (or lack thereof) of Stevie FM sings after 1982. It wasn't until SYW that she really brought top quality material back to the band.

You know it! And I wasn't ignoring responses to my spirit catcher observations. Yesterday was a travel day for me(and The Ledge isn't very android friendly - especially while driving, lol), and today was a two job day.

I'm sure that Stevie doesn't care that some people think she's a loon, for still embracing such "hippie" things in 2014. She's timeless...:p

I just don't see this level of ridiculing Lindsey or his fans over in the Stevie forum  (maybe I need to look into older threads). They don't seem to play at Lindsey piss taking

She should name her album Spirit Catcher.

yes, i've noticed that interesting tidbit of info thrown in too! like they are saying "ok, you don't want to be here, guess what, we'll do whatever we want then!" unfortunately that still stopped short of releasing the album. if Needham is there, that would mean all these songs are not just recorded but already mixed.
I got the impression that he's engineering the album at the minute, not necessarily mixing it (yet).

I'm really, really, really glad to hear this because I think it needs a dedicated person to work on best microphone placements, acoustics etc. I think Lindsey's engineering skills need supplemented because I think he's more interested in production that engineering and sometimes it slips. The (slightly) lo-fi approach works great for his solo work but FM needs pristine sound and high quality engineering.

(I haven't read all the posts yet so sorry if this has been addressed before me)

What an excellent post Phil. The best one I've read in these weird times in FM. I fully agree on what you write, and it means that, in the end, if there's material from Stevie in the batch included, I NEVER ever want to read about the fact that she wasn't happy how the album turned out. You have to be part of the process of the whole. Especially now. I'm really dissapointed in how this goes, although I'm excited about the high productivity in LA as well as Nashville. I think Ken did a great job with the sound. I think Lindsey would have made her do certain things with the arrangements and the mixing which would have given it the bite that would have made it, "over the top" good. So agree he was missed. That's a powerhouse for sure! Very exciting to see Christine and Lindsey working together again. Their Tango songs were some of the best in FM's history. The next FM album is going to be a gift from the Gods!

I wonder who is more jealous, Stevie of Christine for being able to write songs with Lindsey, or Lindsey of Dave for being able to work and create with Stevie? The dynamics of this band are extremely interesting, to say the least!!

I understand maybe some confusion. That's what I feel. But she's not on a s**tlist for me, at least not yet, until I know all the facts. She has said more than once recently that she wants her projects to be shorter, not longer (which I personally think is a good idea for both her and her fans). Maybe she feels like she can get a solo album done in the same amount of time it would take FM to do three of her songs for their album. I'm sure Lindsey can be quick in the studio when he wants to be, but he doesn't always want to be. The band could probably take up as much of her time as she would allow them to; maybe she sees this as a way to do two projects instead of one.

I think Stevie was honestly already committed to the idea of recording another solo album before all this Christine business.

If they still can't get Stevie to record, out of desperation they could always mention in an interview that Stevie refuses to work with with them and it's her fault there's no new Mac album then just let the media and the fans guilt trip her into recording.

Obviously the quality wouldn't be there, but it would still be a FM record featuring Stevie Nicks.

I wouldn't want that though. I wish Stevie could find some inspiration for Fleetwood Mac. Their late 70s/80s sound is VERY in right now in certain aspects of pop music. If Stevie could just find that passion for the band, they could do some brilliant stuff (and maybe land some Grammy nods).

I'm optimistic though. The band's phrasing still makes it seem like Stevie's still on board, they're just waiting for her to get done with prior engagements - - not that they're unsure if she'll even do anything at all with them.

Stevie's on my S list right now. She hasn't said a word about recording with FM. She actually doesn't even seem excited about Chris returning. Very subdued in my opinion. Believe me, if they had gotten any commitment from Stevie that she will eventually record, they would say it. Instead she's being all difficult about it,:sorry: when this should be an exciting last chapter of the band. She better clarify things fast or I'll really be pissed. Sorry this is the way I feel.

someone's clearly sulking in a corner
acting like a child
wasn't she all happy about Chris returning
and Bucky was the one who had reservations?

but what Mike said above ... maybe Stevie is using the time to churn out a new album whilst Lindsey can give Chris his undivided attention and vice versa so they can draw out their sessions together. Then Stevie will be finished her solo album and be ready to come back to Mac land where they can just concentrate solely on her stuff?
