while i generally agree, when he introduced SG in Vegas as from SYW he paused for a sec waiting if there will be some reaction, and looked a tad disappointed when nothing happened.
That kind of amuses me, but it's sad when compared to the applause Tusk gets and his boyish appreciation of the clapping.
To be honest though, I didn't get the sense that Lindsey was that fond of the album himself, in retrospect. No matter what he felt 10 years ago.

It's only two years, Elle. :p

i remember thinking how he's not hyping up that SG is from SYW. and then he said it - it's from SYW. and then i thought - see he said it and even *i* didn't react.
i don't know. there were maybe couple of reviews this year that were questioning why is he is talking up Tusk so much and what does he still have to prove.
so in regards to SYW - a) would have been so much better album if it was original GOS1 instead, and b) maybe he just gave up that fight after all the sh*t he had to hear from some of his bandmates after it. the fact they were doing SG on this tour gives me some hope that he didn't give up on that album altogether. but i don't see next FM album being anything like it. same as he said he wouldn't produce [alone] an FM album anymore. life is short; seems he decided to pick his battles and make sure to also enjoy the ride.
that still doesn't make me any less unhappy that he's not hyping up those songs that ended up on SYW more. and it made me happy he was doing Come and BTLH last year. they were certainly among the highlights of that setlist.

Not to worry, the next album will be the best work they've ever done. And the best they've ever gotten along.
I suspect "Sad Angel" will be included on a future Mac album, albeit in revised form with the addition of Christine's keyboards and backing vocals. A re-recorded "Miss Fantasy" might be a possibility, but I don't imagine the other two EP tracks will be considered for inclusion.
I wonder if the poor mastering of the EP was a concession to Itunes/IPod listeners as opposed to audiophiles?

I loved the part in the Vegas show when Lindsey said musically he thinks they've played as good as they ever have this tour.

I remember when he said "TITN" -- which he doesn't usually do when he introduces Big Love. That got a warm reaction.

 for sure.
however, i do think that he genuinely felt proud of what they were doing while they were working on SYW. many of those songs were stellar. he may not be that happy with the final result though, idk. but he certainly lighted up when TrueFaith was praising SYW at his m&g.
for his new songs he recorded with Mick and John i believe he said they were as FM-y as can be and the best they've done in a long long time. ;)

pretty sure that was not the reason.

Yes, I think he felt proud of the album when they were working on it and even when they were touring on those songs. I think he believed in them. And adding Red Rover later and leaving it in the set, was a vote of confidence and faith to me. I mean it said, "I don't care what people think. I'm proud of it."
That said, I don't want to hear any SYW songs that I've already heard live again. There are some I want to hear, but not the ones that have already been performed. Although the title track was made because of Christine and probably would sound great with her.

Well, I don't consider BTLH a SYW song. It was on The Dance first. That leaves Come as the lone SYW rep in his solo career.
I'd love to hear Chris on the title track! SYW would be a great candidate for retooling on the next tour.:blob2:
I'd love to hear Red Rover live again. Until SWS came out I thought RR was the best song Lindsey's ever recorded. Loved it live during the SYW tour.

I agree that the Stevie/Christine combo has been over looked. I think it's because two women dueting together is not as mainstream as a woman and man. I love them singing together on the live 1979 cd and other live stuff of the 70s. You have love in store, beautiful child, honey hi, in the back of my mind, freedom, over my head, and, well that's all I got. They don't have to write a song together. Christine wrote all the songs Lindsey was sang with her on, except world turning.

I agree with everyone that Christine's return will be a game changer for Stevie.
I also think John's health scare last year will make a difference for everyone...they don't have that much time left! With the group's 50th anniversary fast approaching, I think they probably have the next three years mapped out!
And, yes, I would think most, if not all, of the EP songs would be included for those who don't download!

I have no enthusiasm for a FM album. If it sounds like the EP, it will be pablum and a sad way for FM to go out on. Because, believe it, this thing will likely sell even less than SYW and the band will never record again. At least if SYW is the band's last studio album, it will stand up as a collection of songs with some real flashes of brilliance, even though it is uneven as a set.
Lindsey seems to have talked himself into believing he has to write these really uninteresting pop songs for FM. He followed SWS, which was exciting and brilliant, and the This is 40 contributions, which were as shiny and well-crated as any pop songs Lindsey has ever done, with probably what I see as some of his worst output, the EP. I'd rather he gave up on the whole thing and went back into the studio to give us some more of his solo weirdness.
If FM must record as a band, then thrown out the rule book and start from scratch. Seat the band members in a circle and do some live recordings. Use real acoustic guitars. Forget the studio wizardry. Give us an organic sound. Go listen to bands like Lone Bellow and Mumford and Songs to get a sense of how to update the FM sound from the 70s-meets-the-80s-meets-the-90s inconsistency of SYW. I want something cohesive, smart and well-produced. Otherwise, as I said, Lindsey should go back to the studio and give us more weirdness, synthetic sounds and all.

Totally agree on the bold part, Rockaway. But I never see this happening. I'd like to see them at least get together in the studio and fight eachother artisticly. Bring in demo's and concoct an album TOGETHER. Even that seems an impossibility.

I'll take a new FM album over any solo (I'm not a big Stevie solo, so). I like Lindsey solo a lot(especially OOTC and SWS), but I'll do without a new LB album/tour for an FM album/tour.

I agree completely. Try to replicate the White Album. Go in and hammer out 10-12 good songs. Work TOGETHER, and enough with the studio tricks(a gift he seems to have lost, anyway)!

Agree about SWS. I do think the "White Album" recording approach could work considering just like 1975 they have 10-12 songs already to work.

I'm actually torn on this. I wouldn't say he's lost it altogether, but some of the stuff isn't working anymore. There's too much synthetic-sounding stuff, to my taste. It's like he can't entirely shed that 80s sheen. When it works, though, it works brilliantly.

As much as I love the Mac the idea of a new album doesn't really excite me that much. As I said before in another thread a new live album would be an essential purchase - but a new album? I'd rather they were out on the road doing their thing.
I think they were on the right track with Extended Play. Just every now and then release a couple of new tracks through iTunes.

Right. Problem for me has been that he's been using some of the same old tricks in the studio now for-evah (as we say in Boston). We got it Linds, we understand it, we appreciate it. Now keep evolving into something new, please.

Cher has just been complaining about Warner Bros. She says they don't care about her new CD and the decision makers have no interest in it. I suspect we'll be crying the same blues by the end of this year. She's sold 285,000 copies so far.

11 years ago was a different time. Music overall doesn't sell as well. Especially old bands. In the past decade the only classic rock bands with any success seem to be those that made a deal with Walmart (such as the Eagles, Journey, AC/DC). SYW sold nearly 1 million copies in the US. That seems like a lot to me now, but at the time I remember being slightly disappointed that it didn't get there.

The Beach Boys released an album a couple summers ago, it hit #3. it sold like hotcates. With TWO of the originals (Carl and Dennis) both dead.
It was a GREAT album, and their best since the late 60's-1970.
If FM can do top 10, or top 5 or even #3 that would be great.

I really do think that hitting the top 3 will be really easy for them. 'Say You Will' was really close to hitting #1 and it sold a whopping 218,000 copies in its first week. Also, Stevie's 'In Your Dreams' hit #6 in 2011, so I don't think it'll be difficult for them to better that....

Album sales are plummeting. This week's total was
17% less than 2013's sales of the comparable week.
And 2013's was horrible.
For the week ending Jan. 12, 2014 Disney's Frozen
Soundtrack sold approximately 86,000 copies to keep
it at number 1 on Billboard's chart.
Fast forward to January 2015 when the new Fleetwood
Mac album will be released. With the projected numbers
it will only take the Mac 71,380 copies of We're Back to
reach number 1.
Anyone believe they can make that number?

Add the fact that the fan base of FM are people that buy actual hard copies i think that would only help sales. Most younger bands the fans just buy off iTunes.
When the beach boys hit #3 couple years ago they had done a lot of publicity and played on morning shows and on (god forbid if FM ever does this....) QVC. (barf)
By the time the album was released it was #3 the first week, and then I think #11.
Fleetwood Mac's last albums were #1 and #3. And those were late 90's early 2000s pre-iTunes and even pre-Napster days.
If they play the cards right, the management and WB/Reprise doesnt CHOKE on the publicity, and they really play the "Reunion with CHRIS" angle, there should be NO problem hitting top 5, or even #1!!!

It really depends on how the album is promoted. I would say that if the band sticks with Warner Bros, then no, they won't hit that target. If they switch to a label that cuts them some sort of exclusive deal & actually promotes them, then it's certainly possible.

agree. i really don't know what WB can offer them these days. i don't see them doing some clever promotion for FM - if that's what they are after i suspect somebody else could do it better... and nowadays they don't do advances anymore like what swayed them to WBs from Interscope during SYW era, right?

People are deluding themselves by thinking just because Christine returned and may be on the next FM record that it's going to be a instant success & new classic. The desired music buying demographic that actually bother to buy music anymore are not going to be tripping all over themselves to buy the next FM record just because a 70 year old classic rock veteran came out of retirement to record a few more songs with the group.
Yes, Fleetwood Mac is still looked up upon & luckily are still celebrated, but a new release will be greeted no different than new Rolling Stone song's (that get ignored.) If they're lucky they will be shooting for Bruce Springsteen type accolades & critical acclaim. They need to stick to what they do best, making well crafted pop/rock songs that are mysteriously romantic & slightly dark. I've said it before, but if a new FM record is in the cards & gets released and does eventually sell 500K in the U.S., that would be a very big success in this current landscape for this very old band.

I don't think it matters anymore which label, or if they stay with WB. Afterall, there are currently only 3 big labels: Sony, Universal Music Group & Warner Music Group. What matters to the band is most likely going to be manufacturing, distribution & some promotion, which FM failed at majorly with their independently released EP last year.
On the heels of "Seven Wonders" selling 13K downloads last week after Stevies' appearance on AHS-Coven, debuting at #18 on Billboards rock digital songs chart 27 years after its original release, perhaps WB is going to be even more interested in making a little pocket change on a new FM record.

But that's the thing: why gravitate towards (or remain tied to) a big label. Why not try one of the smaller ones that might give more attention and push to FM. Big fish small pond.
As for money, I would imagine that FM is getting most of that from concert people like Live Nation and don't expect to make money off of the album. They may just not be willing to lose any money on it either, though.

See you hit it on the head here. If they promote the album with the tour and package it with a current type distribution method and deal.. The album can go viral. And by marketing the Original Rumours line up, I do believe it could get traction. People love that line up.

I agree with you, I think they should be more daring. But atlas, to coin Lindsey's tired old phase, this is the "big machine!"
Also, both Stevie & Lindsey by now are fully aware of the constraints of recording on a budget these days. Lindsey in his home studio, while Stevie did the bulk of recording at her home, and Reprise/WB gave her @2 weeks budget to finish recording drums & overdubs at a professional studio.
It would be interesting to know if Stevie made or lost money on In Your Dreams? Of course, if she lost money, she recouped on the road, just as Fleetwood Mac will.
The extravagant days of recording are over with this band! No more French chateau's, or renting out mansions in Bel Air, I'm seeing back to Studio City type recording, which probably bodes well creatively speaking & expediting the record to fruition.

If recording starts in March they don't have a lot of time anyway. They will have to rehearse over the summer if they tour in the Fall. Especially if they are going to promote the new album with new tunes.

Sold like hot cakes? Made it to number 3 but I see no indication that it sold a significant amount of copies overall. The examples I mentioned were based on sales, not chart position, as was the comment I was responding to. I'm not all that concerned with chart position because it's not by itself a good indicator of the album's success these days.

I think if they were starting cold, then yes it would take a lot to have an album done before the tour. But, everybody except Christine just got done touring a few months ago.
Lindsey still has five songs that are unreleased from before, Christine has sent Lindsey a few songs so that he could "Mac them up", and Stevie probably has a few finished demos. Assuming they've all been listening to each other's demos and practicing, recording shouldn't take too long. They could easily be done by June. That would give them July off, and then they could begin rehearsals in August, with the tour were starting sometime in September.

I agree their chops should be very tight. And Christine probably has been playing keys since August before the 02 show. Otherwise there are still a lot of assumptions. Christine mentioned she had 8 songs written. I hope there are some organic processes in the works. But March, April, May, June should be plenty of time to record. July mix/master. 6-8 weeks of rehearsal.
What else are these people going to do anyway? It's good to be busy!

next year is one year too late, as far as i'm concerned, but better than never.
plus, he actually made money on OMS tour. just not FM kind of millions. and him loosing or making money is not something i care about. he has enough. his legacy is something he should care about. sticking with FM is not adding anything to it, that's not already there, really.

I was goofing around with you:shrug:. I never said you cared about money, but I'm sure he and his family do. His legacy is already great and intact whether he goes solo or not and I'm sure he'll add to it in the near future. You can't really keep this guy from creating.
I completely disagree about FM not adding to his legacy. He has created some amazing FM moments and I hope if they do an album he continues to light it up. I do like Lindsey solo better too these days, but I'm overly curious to see what he and Christine create this one last time.

People are deluding themselves by thinking just because Christine returned and may be on the next FM record that it's going to be a instant success & new classic.
Who's saying that it's going to be an "instant success" and "new classic?" I don't think anybody is under the illusion that it's going to be a huge hit, nor is anybody expecting it to be like the line-ups first three records. Really, that's not the point at this stage.
The desired music buying demographic that actually bother to buy music anymore are not going to be tripping all over themselves to buy the next FM record just because a 70 year old classic rock veteran came out of retirement to record a few more songs with the group.
I think that's a bit of an overstatement that doesn't take into account how important she was to the band's success, not to mention her contributions to the band's sound. There IS something special to market with her return, but I don't think anybody is realistically expecting a big hit album.

The way Hit and Run is described makes me think of Sweet Girl; I danced across the stages of the world. If that is the case, I think I'll pass.

Not sure I dig that idea- that's fine if she wants to cowrite with him solo, but this is Fleetwood Mac. It would just seem bizarre & inappropriate for Stevie to be writing songs with Dave with the rest of the band just sitting by. I can only imagine the amount of tension that would cause, too. Stevie just needs to try a clean slate with Lindsey & even Chris now that she's back. Surely now that she's let her guard down for Dave, she can do so with her bandmates of nearly 40 years. I for one would LOVE to see Stevie & Chris cowrite.

This is one reason I find the Tom Petty "stolen song" story so unbelievable, as told by Stevie. It's difficult for me to believe that Mick, John, Lindsey and Christine would commit to tape an entire track they had no part in writing. Don't you think they'd cringe, just a little bit, at putting a Petty track on a Fleetwood Mac album?

Exactly! People like to nail Stevie to a cross for co-writing, but conveniently forget Christine was the first to begin bringing co-written tracks to FM starting wth "Hold Me" way back to "Mirage" and continued to do so on every studio record since (including her solo records.) I don't mind Stevie co-writing at all, especially if it yields results as it did on In Your Dreams. Dave seemed to bring out Stevie's A game and their collaborations got Stevie out of her Am/F/G chord rut. In the end what matters most is that the songs are great.

If you listen there are quite a few songs on IYD that have a bit of an FM thing to them (little bits here and there) so I don't see any reason why Stevie couldn't write with someone else as long as they wrote them with FM in mind...

there was no official confirmation... their publicist confirmed Christine is back and mentioned there will be a tour announcement later this year, but she did not mention any album recording. then again we usually get official info from the mac way after the fact - official confirmation of the tour a week after some tickets already went on sale comes to mind.

So what do you think Mick meant by his comment regarding Christine joining "most of the band" in the studio in March? Who won't be there? I just can't see any of them sitting out Christine's return. Even if John is dealing with his cancer treatment, I have to imagine he'll want to pop in some. I don't get the impression that much of anything stops John from doing what he sets his mind to doing. Obviously Mick will be there at all costs. I imagine Stevie wouldn't miss the opportunity, either. Lindsey has been the one anxious to record an album, and he's become the defacto head of the band since Mick's ouster as band manager decades ago. So you know he'll be there.

I don't see any situation in which Christine was denied recording with anyone. After the Behind the Mask tour, she effectively quit touring (and the band) by choice.
The Time-era band album featured a significant amount of Christine's contributions, though she kept herself arms length from the band, recorded with other musicians and had no interest performing with the band. The band went on tour as planned, sans Christine.

Behind The Mask & Time were the albums where Lindsey was gone... it's been made pretty clear by Stevie that Lindsey is the one drawing the line in the sand with Christine in regards to "coming and going."

I don't know.... You guys have definitely got me thinking... At first I was thinking for sure it was Christine but now I'm not so sure...
I think Stevie will be there. Just because Stevie seems to be falling into a pattern where she does solo for a few years, then mac for a few years. She never really seems to cut right into one and do another, for the most of it. I think that she did all that In Your Dreams for quite some time, just finished the doc, touring with lady antebellum and Grohl.. I think now she just wants to return to her Mac family.
As of John.. he seems like the type that would want to get back ingot the studio asap. I can imagine he didn't do anything drastic while he was in treatment so he probably wants to get back to work now. As of Lindsey..... not sure..? He kinda seems like he runs the show now, aside from Mick. ( I think we can admit that they all do in their own ways but you know what I'm getting at) Pretty sure Lindsey will be there at least for sure during the beginning of recording just to get everything into order.
Mick is Mick... unless theres something going on we don't know about he'll be there.
And then there's Chris... I think everyone is avoiding the obvious here but I keep coming back to Christine being the one that won't join them, for various reasons. Maybe she already did her recording and is on her way until tour? Maybe she did what she needed to while she was here and now they're working with what they have? Then again you would think after all these years away from music and recording she'd want to hang around and just chill and have fun with it. UUUGH i don't know
Btw.... does anyone know where Christine even is right now? Did she fly back home or is she still in states?

The Time-era band album featured a significant amount of Christine's contributions, though she kept herself arms length from the band, recorded with other musicians
Christine was on all of the Billy Burnette and Bekka Bramlett songs, and was on one of Dave Mason's songs (they redid "Blow By Blow", but I suspect she was on the original). She used her own guitarist on her songs, but that could have been done when they were all on the road. No, she didn't like Dave Mason, but she co-wrote a song with Billy Burnette on "In The Meantime".
and had no interest performing with the band.
Well, she HAD retired from the road by that point. I don't think it really mattered who was in the band at that point.
The band went on tour as planned, sans Christine.
No. They only toured before the album was released, not after. The plan to tour the album was scrapped after Lindsey recruited Mick, who in turn, broke the band up.

When I read this article about Lady Gaga, it really made me think of Fleetwood Mac:
http://nypost.com/2013/12/14/what-happened-to-lady-gaga/
Why? The parts where it mentions the typical star's rise & fall from fame. Bands don't just make it because of their talent- they make it because of their talent combined with the talent of their producers, engineers, managers, stylists, etc. The article states that the beginning of the end of musical artists is when they either lose or fire these vital behind the scenes people. Seems pretty apt in Fleetwood Mac's case- when they shoved the likes of Richard Dashut, Ken Caillat, Judy Wong, and John Courage out the door, they completely fell apart.
I bring this up in this particular thread because the Mac NEEDS Richard & Ken. Extended Play was simply awful- they need to stay far, far away from Mitchell Froom. Lindsey is a great producer, don't get me wrong, but the band can still benefit hugely from an outside producer who is a good fit for them.

That's just it- they started alienating themselves from their inner circle once they hit it big with Rumours. It was the addiction to fame, substances, and lust that fueled it for sure. Once they started eschewing the people who were their support team before their stratospheric fame hit- the people who knew them when they were nobodies & who weren't yes men zombies- their music suffered hugely. Tusk was their masterpiece because they were on the brink of being completely nuts, but hadn't fallen off the precipice just yet. That ended up happening during the Tusk tour, and it was all downhill from there.

Extended play was absolutely awful, but that doesn't mean they need Richard or ken. They just Need to try a little effin harder. There was absolutely nothing wrong with SYW. If they turn in SYW level quality songs plus Christine ill be very satisfied. I don't want to hear about how un cohesive the album was. As individuals songs the album was a winner, especially if each writer trimmed their 3 worst songs. And id even go as far as to say it actually feels very cohesive in parts. Murrow feels right at home next to Illume. Peacekeeper come and smile at you all flow perfectly into each other.
And any faults actually left with SYW will be fixed this time around with the fact that Christine is back and they are all going into record at the same time.

Do you really think they would work with other producers than they did on EP and the rest of the 5 LB songs? That is most reasonable the input from LB, they are working on CM's and SN's material right now, I think. Or they are rerecording Lindsey's songs too? No. If they want to do it in a short amount of time, they have to fit it in the batch that is recorded in 2012.

I agree: the game is completely different now that Christine is back. Say You Will could have been Tusk 2 if Christine were present. It was a big, epic album with lots of sonic experimentation & personal introspection. It had all the makings of a great album- the formula was just off because Christine wasn't there to bridge the manic Buckingham & Nicks. So if we end up with Lindsey producing, I'll be just fine with that. There will be an artistic edge from Lindsey's zaniness, but Christine will temper his experimentations with a solid foundation.
I still think if they find the proper producer, their music can be taken to another level, though. For instance, it seems Richard & Ken brought out a warmth of sound from the band that hasn't been present since their departure. As a comparison, Lindsey's production tends to be much sharper, and Froom's was just plain flat, in my opinion.

Interesting theory, however, I don’t agree with it. Fleetwood Mac’s downfall was when they started doing solo albums.
Judy Wong’s position was eliminated when Stevie’s new manager, Irving Azoff, shut down Seedy Management in 1980, long before their popularity declined. John Courage became Christine’s manager in 1984 and was with her until “The Dance” when she decided to retire. Richard Dashut stayed with Lindsey for “Out Of The Cradle” and came back into the Fleetwood Mac fold for “Time.” He even got a thanks on “Say You Will.” Ken Caillat was hired by Christine to produce “In The Meantime.” I don’t see it as them being shown the door so much as the band’s output dwindled to almost nothing, and out of sight, out of mind. Given the choice and opportunity, they’ve mostly stuck with their crew.
More than anything, Stevie’s changing voice (going from more throaty to more nasal), putting on more weight, and going on Klonopin, mixed with Lindsey Buckingham quitting the band, all around the same time, did more to hurt them than anything. I think “Rock A Little,” “Red Rocks,” the “Tango...” tour video, her contributions to “Tango,” and TOSOTM did more to hurt Fleetwood Mac than losing their support staff.
Said same staff, minus Courage, were NOT a part of “The Dance,” which was a huge hit for Fleetwood Mac, and there were some misses for the band (individually and as a whole) prior to that.
I bring this up in this particular thread because the Mac NEEDS Richard & Ken. Extended Play was simply awful- they need to stay far, far away from Mitchell Froom. Disagree. Froom's body of work shows that he wasn't necessarily the problem. "Daring Adventures" and "Rumor and Sigh" by Richard Thomspon, and even "Luka" by Susanne Vega suggest otherwise
ETA: However, if Ken and Richard want to record, and the band is happy with that, then go for those two. If not, then Froom would be my go to. It's hard to blame somebody when they weren't working in the same studio the band did during "Tusk."

Dave Stewart would bring the polished sound and warmth that many in Fleetwood Mac's audience -- both diehard and casual -- enjoy and appreciate in their work. He also has an ear for the "quirky," when it suits the music or artist.
Mitchell Froom, while a great producer for other artists, proved to be a miss-match and a dud, IMO.

I adore what Dave brought out of Stevie for In Your Dreams. It's arguably the best album she's made since Bella Donna. However, the possibility of Dave & Fleetwood Mac makes me extremely nervous. The warm sound he'd bring out of the band would no doubt be fantastic. I just fear he'd be a bit heavy handed & overly polish the music. I understand where you're coming from, but based on his work with other artists, he really does seem to have a knack for adapting his production aesthetic to suit the artist he's working with. So if Fleetwood Mac isn't looking for an overly-polished sound, I don't think that Dave would go there.
To my ears, there really isn't anything on 'In Your Dreams' that wouldn't sit beautifully on a Mac album. Dave did a great job of capturing the best aspects of Stevie's past work, while also bringing something current to the mix. So the album sounds "classic" yet avoids sounding like a re-tread.
I can see why he wouldn't appeal to anyone who's looking for a 'Tusk' redux, but I'm willing to bet that he'd be the most likely producer to highlight all of the band's best elements -- and not just one stylistic approach over another.

I'm a bit disappointed there wasn't much mentioned for a new album.
I have been reading however, and it seems they are going to be in the studio to record new music with Christine. That could mean so many things. Christine mentioned an album after the tour? Wow, so what then? Another tour for that album? Did Fleetwood Mac take a page from Rush's business plan. Rush toured 3 years in a row with much success, then did an album in year 2 and toured it. The album was fantastic as their chops were completely solid. This is when I say, "Thank God for Lindsey" I'm sure he is dying to make new music. I hope he gets his wish.
Maybe their lack of comment is due to a lack of contract and/or label. Let's get this done already. I feel for the people that spent tons of cash to see FMac only to see the same setlist (add Christine tunes). And some of those people may not even like her hits. Which would mean another nostalgia tour.
Anyone else have an opinion?

It's been 'after the tour' for a few tours now, and Lindsey offers up some excuse about needing to be on the road to establish a 'dynamic' and then they'll record an album 'from the ground up'.
You don't need a contract to say 'we're recording an album'. A contract isn't the vehicle for an album - an album is the vehicle to a contract. They've said Warner wants them. So record something!
They can't stand each other (look at Lindsey's face in those photos) and I've just come to accept the reality that Fleetwood Mac have nothing to offer, as a band, anymore, other than rehashing old material.

I thought you were a mad songwriter and had hundreds of songs? Christine is back like you wanted, stop being a DIVA and get into the studio.
I really hope a new album can get released sometime during the tour late this year. I'm sure if some songs are taken out of the set to make room for Chris's songs they can do 3 or 4 new songs also.

I still don't see an album emerging this year. My guess is they are going to capitalize on the 40 years of the Rumours line up next year. That will in turn give them continued momentum to keep touring behind a new album.
Like I mentioned in another thread, I bet the band is going to use this tour money to reimburse themselves for their studio expenses. Yes- they don't get paid until after the shows are completed, but no doubt, the band's accountants/managers/etc are pushing them to recover the costs of recording. The days of the band receiving large advance offers from record companies is undoubtedly over. Plus, they can assure perspective record companies that they are worthy of being signed by pointing to their advance tour sales figures.
If no new album this year (that I still hope could happen) They should re release expanded versions of Mirage and Tango in the Night

While I'm not surprised Stevie is taking her time, there IS time to be taken. They still have to do Christine's material, and probably need to add finishing touches to Lindsey's material. At this stage, Stevie probably wants to hear the others' material before she submits anything because she wants to give them something appropriate that will sound good in the context of the album.
As for the how, I think that also depends on how she feels Christine's songs turn out. If she's happy with the results, then maybe she'll go with Lindsey. If not, maybe she'll go with somebody else.
The one thing not in question is "if" Stevie will give anything to them, and that's a positive.

Touring last year, the 'success' of the songs with the fans and general public who attended seem to be neutral to high, a tour for Christine to get back into the swing of things and then a proper album after a full year of prepping, legwork and getting material together. 2015 is the best time to drop it, if any.

Do you mean the promo photo of all 5 of them? Lindsey's just pulling his "I'm a serious artist" face. It's the same one he used on the cover of Seeds We Sow.

I thought Lindsey had his own studio. Why do they need to spend so much money to record?

Seriously, these 5 people really need to live in the present.
The Album needs to drop during the tour in 2014. They can continue to tour into 2015 to promote it. Let's not forget we are talking about a group in their late 60s/early 70s. The money isn't the issue.

Even better would be an album *before* the tour, that could also be sold *at* the tour merchandise booth, like so many other artists do.

Exactly! That is what should and could happen. This way the CD will be sold to the folks that just go to the shows for the classics only and don't buy the new stuff.

I'm assuming this wasn't something anyone did in the 70s or 80s.
I think Fleetwood Mac could have seriously boosted sales figures of Say You Will if the album had been sold at the shows.
And that 'unleashed' tour or whatever it was, would have been a great time to sell those first three remasters that they claim sold poorly.

Since Lindsey's studio is of the garage basement variety, I'm guessing it would be too snug for the full band & it's ever present entourage of assistants, friends, family members, managers, etc. I'm thinking Lindsey's studio is set up for his solo albums- I doubt it has the necessary multiple isolation booths, seperate control room, etc required for a full band to record.

Most of the country concerts I attended years back the artists always sold their CD's along with their tee shirts.
I have not been to a country concert in years since I'm not into the current artists.I suppose they are selling CD's at their shows currently.
Atlease the new tour was promoted after the interview on channel 4 this morning.I was surprised to see that.

Linsdey: Ok, make sure you don't say too much about the album because we don't know when it's going to be done or released for that matter.

I'm sorry but you appear to be the only person bringing this up from what I can tell. Certainly, those apparently delusional BN fans haven't been flooding the threads with sentiments such as those. I would venture to say most are extremely pleased about Christine's return, actually. Any hesitance in getting excited on The Ledge - and most other places - appears to stem from concerns about whether they'll do an album and Stevie's apparent reticence to give songs, possible setlist disappointment and things such as that (and a few people here and there who would prefer SnL to do solo tours). Really, from all the comments I've read online I've maybe talked to four people (a VERY small segment and a reasonably quiet one) altogether TOPS who are even a little 'bummed out' about the not-Buckingham-Nicks aspect of this. So I'm not really sure where this is all coming from, to be frank. And I speak as a person who still has hope for said 'reunion' and isn't in throes of rapture over Christine's return. I certainly wouldn't go around this board whining and complaining, mostly because I'm well aware of the pointlessness as well as the selfishness of doing so in the light of the perfectly logical and lovely-to-see thrill people have at Chris' return.

"The next album will be a mix of things. We've done some strange things with one of Christine's songs already. It's going to sound like Fleetwood Mac but not overly retro. It's not that we're making any bold effort to sound like somebody else. Sounds like Stevie is NOT in the studio with them. TitN2.0 isn't the worst thing that could ever happen. Very intrigued. The phrase "the next album" made my heart skip a beat.
I think all of this is part of the game that has been Fleetwood Mac since the early eighties (after the release of Tusk) Yesterday was the " Official" news of the upcoming tour and the return of Christine McVie. Christine is in the states to record and rehearse. Stevie is active with her band mates. I'm sure in the next month or so more will be coming out about the details of the progress with the album. I don't think we're going to get a 'Tango In The Night 2,' with Stevie only having a minor level of involvement. Her time in the studio will come, even if they haven't finalized a date for that yet.
Christine commented elsewhere (the Rolling Stone Q&A and the People Online article) that Lindsey has been taking the "rough demos" she sent to him, and "bits that (she) thought were useless," and is "construct(ing) proper tracks" from them.
So if they're really only in the stage of working on Christine's demos and creating fully-formed songs from them -- there's no reason for Stevie to be in the studio. She'd be sitting there twiddling her thumbs. It would be like the old days when they'd tell her, "we don't need you right now," and then would send her off to another room.

This sounds like rationalizing, especially after all the repeated statements that Stevie doesn't want to record. She doesn't want to and that's her prerogative. I don't care if there's an FM album or not, but they should do it without her if the rest of the band wants it and she doesn't.

Like most every other fan, I'd rest a little more comfortably if I knew they were all currently in the studio. However, I have no reason to think the sky is falling.
If what Christine said is true (and there's no reason to think it's not), then some of the demos she gave to Lindsey aren't even wholly formed ideas (hence her amazement that he's even taking bits she thought were "useless" and is making them into something). So, really, it makes sense to me to focus in on Christine's demos right now, if they're in such an embryonic state, as opposed to bouncing back and forth between hers and Stevie's.
Granted, I'm sure we'd all be happier if Lindsey had said, "we're working on Christine's songs now and then Stevie will join us in April or May," but I'm willing to bet that a time-table is being worked out as we speak.

Despite my verbosity, I often don't get my point across properly. Which is certainly my fault. I'm not meaning to say that's why Stevie isn't in the studio (although I certainly don't imagine that it's pressing for her to be there yet.) Only that it's nothing to worry about that she isn't, and that I'm certain she will join them.

I think Stevie's not in the studio because she's not sold on the idea of Lindsey producing her stuff. And I think politically it's probably tension-producing (pardon the pun) if he produces everything BUT her work-- then she looks like not a team player. I believe she would prefer if the *band* decided to go with an outside producer overall and then everyone's working together, rather than everyone else over here with LB producing and Stevie over there with "her" producer. That makes her look like the problem child, and she doesn't see herself as the problem, she sees LB producing as the "problem" so to speak. She wasn't comfortable with how her work came out under his direction on SYW and she loved the experience of being listened to and respected with Dave S and doesn't think, no matter how things are onstage, that that will happen in the studio with Lindsey. And she's probably right. And unless/until they come up with something that is comfortable for everyone, I don't see an album like we want getting put together. Which sucks, because none of them is getting any younger.

I think you're absolutely right... there's some hardcore posturing going on right now. I do wonder what the conflict is this time around, though.
We now know Lindsey is producing Christine's songs- does Stevie not want Lindsey to produce hers, or is she disagreeing with Lindsey's choice of an outside producer (likely Mitchell Froom)? Or maybe Stevie wants to bring in Dave Stewart, but can't make their schedules match up. Perhaps she wants Dave to produce all their songs, but is getting resistance.
I've noticed the Today show interview & some of these new pictures were taken at Stevie's home- does Stevie not want to record at the Village, but her home instead?
Maybe she disagrees with Lindsey how many of her songs she needs to commit to the album.
Perhaps Stevie isn't liking her cut of the pie now that Christine has reentered the picture. I'm guessing her managers are absolutely pushing for Stevie to have more clout & cash than she did during Say You Will, for instance. The options are endless, really.

Nice rah rah speech there, but it ignores the information we've been given. We have no reason to believe Stevie is in the studio recording with the band.
Who said Stevie was not recording? Nobody!! It Sounded Like Lindsey Wanted to tell the world they are recording with Christine, That Doesn't Mean Stevie's Not There!

The Rolling Stone article said nothing until after the tour, which means 2015. That supports my theory that this album will be tied in with the 40th anniversary of FLEETWOOD MAC!

It is odd that her attitude towards recording with the band doesn't seem to have changed even with Christine back in the fold. She's still being difficult about it.
That's an odd statement. They clearly want Stevie around. Again, they have no other option than to work on Christine songs. Stevie isn't there and has not provided them with any songs.
Lindsey's sole comment was, "Stevie's been not sure how she wants to approach recording or when."
At face value, there's nothing in that statement to imply she's being obstinate about recording -- only that she hasn't yet committed to a time-frame (and probably whether she wants an outside producer for her songs. But that's just an assumption). There's also nothing to imply that she hasn't already sent Lindsey a few demos to listen to.
Finally, we don't even know that she hasn't been in the studio to visit. We're all just assuming she hasn't.
In fact, we (myself included) have all made a lot of assumptions, based on that one sentence from Lindsey.

Unnecessary. And Lindsey said it. I don't think I need to quote him again because as the post above me mentions, it's already been talked about plenty. You can go back and read it yourself.

Well....in fairness, Lindsey is a very calculated person when it comes to words. He speaks carefully and thinks about what he says. I feel like this quote from him was his way of saying "Stevie is noncommittal about recording" without actually saying it. I could be wrong, obviously, many think I and others who are skeptical of this album are in the wrong, and I hope we are.
It's all in the mincing of words.

It establishes that when Mick said most of the band would be recording in March, he meant it and we weren't reading too much into careless phrasing. Michele

It's just all bull****. Nicks offered 5 million to get her back and she's not there when the band records and plays with Chris' new demo's. She should be there to support Christine and add ideas and be part of the Chemistry that Christine talks about. It's chemistry without Nicks. it's about chemistry between Lindsey Mick and Christine. Not within the band. She should be ashamed of all the bull about what a great band it is. She's basicly not in it.
While I agree in principal, I'm not mad about it. My guess is that Buckingham and McVie get into their zone and Stevie does not feel included in the arranging and woodshedding of instruments. They aren't ready for the vocals until later. Stevie tends to talk a lot of gibberish anyway. My guess is she's writing for this album and will bring the demos in when they're done with Christine's stuff. Then just like SYW, they'll Mac up the other songs, with Stevie.

I've spent a lot of time in the studio. Unless you're producing, or being recorded you want to go work on your own stuff. That way when it's your turn, you know your s***. You can't be wasting time with 100 takes.

Of course, Stevie will be there. This is the final chapter of the Mac, be it two years, five years, etc. They all know this is the time to shine and honor their history together and, as Mick has said, end the band with dignity. They're all going to rock it out.

No one is saying she'll never be there. I don't think anyone expects that. But also it doesn't sound like a situation yet where they say "ok, Stevie, we're ready for you" and she strolls on into the studio. Just because she may not be needed right now doesn't mean that's the reason she's not there.

which may mean she's working around the schedule possibilities of whomever she wants producing her stuff. Let's just say she wants Dave S. Maybe he's booked for x,y,z projects of his own and his next block of time he could work with her is say, oh, July. Maybe she's trying to decide if she wants to wait for July with Dave, or find someone else who can start sooner, or if she wants to go with LB. I don't think she's "holding out" on the band.

I personally almost rather NOT have an album before this tour! There I said it. If there was no Christine then I'd be feeling the exact opposite. I'd want a tour behind a new album only if it were the 4 again.
I want at least one tour tho where they don't have to worry about playing new songs while Chris is involved so we can get a bigger variety of their backlougue done. We've gotten a scent amount of rarities from Stevie and Lindsey the past 11 years. I want to increase the odds of getting think about me, isn't it midnight or even why performed.
And honestly for me, the prospect of a song like you make loving fun in the next set feel like a giant surprise song in my mind even tho it isnt in any way. What I'm saying is Christine's third of the set is enough of refresher in the set for a lot of us.
If there are new songs I'll want to hear them the most obviously, but I can't miss songs i don't know exist:laugh: so im fine witha tour in 2014 and an album in 2015, especially if that said album is already being recorded and can be out soon in 2015.

With Fleetwood Mac going on tour later this year, there is ample time for a new release before touring.
Like many, I do not know what tracks are being recorded. I did notice four recent BMI repertoire entries for Stevie Nicks: "Melucine;" "I'm the Only One" co-written with David A. Stewart; "Dial the Number" co-written with Sandy Stewart; and "Goldfish and the Ladybug." Christine McVie also has two: "Rain in the Summertime" and "Wanna Be With You."

I wouldn't make much of that..."Melacine" "Ladybug & Goldfish" & "Dial The Number" are ancient songs...Could just be renewing the copyright...

It is odd that her attitude towards recording with the band doesn't seem to have changed even with Christine back in the fold. She's still being difficult about it.
And therein the rub. Some folks can rationalize and justify anything when it comes to Stevie, but the element she claimed she wanted to lure her back into the studio -- Christine -- is there now, and she still doesn't seem to want to be there.

LOL, "not obstinate?" Don't you think that Lindsey would be announcing only too gladly that she is back in the studio with the band if she were? He's been lobbying publicly so hard for it, and now we are supposed to believe that she's in there and he's decided to get all secretive about it?

That doesn't explain the new entries under Christine's name. There are also the 5-6 unreleased songs in Lindsey's name probably from the 2012 sessions he held with Mick and John when they also recorded Sad Angel and Miss Fantasy.
I'm the Only One is probably a working title that was scrapped for the (already released) Everybody Loves You - for anyone unfamiliar with it, Nicks and Stewart wrote that song together for In Your Dreams and it contains the lyric "No-one really knows you, I'm the only one...Everybody loves you, but you're so alone". On With the Show is registered in Lindsey's name, and although I want to believe it's a fresh song, I'd say it's also an alternative title, probably for Miss Fantasy whose lyrics feature that phrase.

That's true. I assumed that he meant she wasn't sure when her material would be ready for studio recording with them, but she was working on it. All these diva scenarios didn't occur to me until I came to the Ledge and read all the accusations and condemnations being thrown around.
I will say that it wouldn't surprise me if there were tensions about producing, though. In her mind, Lindsey's no longer the guy who always knows just what to do with her songs to make them great, and that has to hurt him.

If they want a record deal, they'll have to use her name.
The only way that I can see her management preventing him from speaking of her involvement is if she hasn't formally committed yet.
Also, we only have a few concert dates. Everyone may not yet be committed to the "world tour" that Christine thinks is ultimately in the offing. So, I can see them walking gingerly and not saying anything definite until all the contracts are signed and then maybe they'll start giving interviews talking about what was really happening right now and complaining about each other.

I would imagine they're gauging interest in the tour.
If ticket sales are what they hope, and John's health
holds up they'll roll out more dates. And hopefully
that "good" album that we're looking forward to.
One free bit of advice for them (I usually charge).

This is just my two cents: I think Stevie's hesitation to record, if she is, in fact, hesitant, comes down to who will produce her songs. As others have posted, my hunch is that she's trying to get Dave Stewart on board, in some form or fashion...and that may account for the question of when she starts recording. Dave is a busy guy. Another factor may be that she's still working on new, current songs for the project. Just my guess. I do hope and expect that Stevie will eventually get on board but I really hope she doesn't slow up the process too much.
This will not be a 33 city tour. Christine HAD to commit long term--Lindsey has said this repeatedly. They did not want another Dance tour where they have huge momentum and CM packs it in after 35 shows. They ALL (Stevie included) want to go full tilt and make the most of this opportunity. This will be the last tour for all 5.
I think they are waiting to see how sales go (they will be fine) to (possibly) add shows to current markets. Secondary markets will happen in 2015. They wanted the major markets first--guaranteed money first. There is no room to add markets to this initial run. There will be more later. I would guess those later shows would get announced later this summer.

I agree. I have friends chattering about it on FB and replying to the venue RSVP alerts in greater numbers that I imagined. I was just moaning in the vip ticket thread that tickets (non vip) are on stubhub now. I never have good luck with presales but may take what I can get just to get a ticket (for now).

First off - super excited to hear the all the good news!! Second, I quickly read through a bunch of the interviews as well as the many of your comments, and am pleased to hear some movement towards an album.
Anyway, I really picked up on how complimentary Christine was/is being, particularly towards Lindsey. I think it's all very sweet, and still do, yet after reading a bunch of your comments in regards to an album's hold-up possibly being an issue between Lindsey and Stevie, then it is actually interesting to see Christine publicly praising her and Lindsey's chemistry, as well praising his work on her songs (she said she loved what he does with her songs, and he said he made one of them a bit strange). I totally believe she's being genuine and is just super excited to be back at it. But if (and I emphasize if) some of what some of you are hinting at is true (that there is an issue between L/S with regards to producers/writing/etc.), then I wonder what role Christine will play in all of this? She seems to be on board with Lindsey (seemingly)...do you think that will have an effect on Stevie?
Regardless, still thrilled to hear the band is back together!!
