They are really sick people.

I've said this before (and I know Dee has disagreed), but it amuses me how clumsy they look with each other, like in the Destiny Rules video when they are kissing or on the David Letterman show or on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame presentation. They're like, "well, I'm moving this way. Are you going to go left or right? Well, are you going to hold my hand or put your hand on my back? Oh, ouch you're twisting my thumb!"

The way they fumble, they practically need crash helmets around each other.
I can't imagine that sex went very smoothly.:distress:

Those are great gifs Wildhearted.

Michele

Ha. I don't necessarily disagree. Especially about the sick part.

I think they share something very real and deep and the term "friendship" would not encompass it, but the interplay in these videos is something different. I find it intriguing, very much so, but yes manufactured.

And just the conversations they must have when they decide this is what they're going to do would be interesting to sit in on. But I want to see how they really are with each other.

I mean just a little thing like in Destiny Rules when Lindsey says he is going to push a button and play a recording of all the high notes he has to hit and Stevie responds, "Lindsey!" Just those spontaneous little outbursts mean the world. What does he do to make her squeal and exclaim when they're not "on" ? They don't have to put on a show. I can't believe they are selling tickets to anyone but focused fans with that handholding.

You don't know they planned it. And sure they plan stuff - but you don't know they did. I can't even imagine how that conversation would sound: "Ooh when they ask us about BN you grab my hand!" "yeah that will look so loving! And like I really care for you!" Lol

I think the number of fans that would notice that is pretty small and certainly wouldn't "sell out" arenas on the tour even if some silly handholding by two people in their sixties did happen to pique a few to purchase tickets. And, at these prices it would have to be more titllating than that...

But, if we're gonna see the real deal, I hope for the humor. Because they are really funny.

I think they play it up for the public, but it stems from real feelings. It's like how they do the same things on tour night after night, that's not spontaneous, but a lot of those things start out that way and it's not totally insincere. They use their feelings (current or revived) as part of the theater.

^i never saw them live until 2009 so I can't comment on how they were live prior, besides all the YouTube videos I've seen. Funny that this "PDA" didn't start until The Dance- besides the one scene in The Mirage concert at the end of SOTM.. But, this is the first time I've seen them do anything like that in an interview. The Dance rehearsal thing only surfaced recently, I think those were edited. It's ironic that they hyped up their break up to market their band and now 40 years later they are supposedly marketing their....ongoing care and need to come full circle?? Why wouldn't it just be true - and a nice way to put BN in the press? They don't even have to do any of that. This world truly is a ugly cynical place when people can't even hold a hand without it being "staged for publicity". But if they were at each other's throats everyone would think that's 100% real and not possibly staged. Ha.

I don't know they planned it, but it looks like it was planned and, to me, that is the same difference.

Especially when you see they did the same thing throughout several different interviews ...

Especially since Mick seemed to be pre-announcing one of the hand holds, knowing it was coming...

Especially since Lindsey complained before that Mick and Stevie were trying to get him to go out on tour and share a mic and look into each other's eyes a few years ago. It seems like that's the set up now.

Lindsey said that Mick and Stevie were trying to get him to market it before. So, yes, I believe that's exactly what they're doing.

You've said that you think their spats are contrived, to drum up interest and I think that's very unlikely.

Do real things happen? Yes, certainly. We were just talking about that. The push ups on Pattie's video. Stevie found Lindsey not only amusing, but adorable. The way she touched him as he pretended he needed help getting off of the ground ...that was real.

This handholding is not. In one clip, she puts her hand on the armrest to nudge him to hold hers and when he doesn't she then puts her hand on his, because he missed his cue! So, he hurried and caught up with the script.

Totally agree on the planned....and repeated ad nauseum.

I mean, it's based on Lindsey's former interview comments like this that I think YES they do PLAN.

"Mick will usually be in cahoots with whatever is going on with Stevie," Buckingham says. "It's not about anything other than wanting to grease the machinery. They were saying next time we tour, we're going to move the mikes closer together and you're going to look in Stevie's eyes. I didn't say anything. Other than we did this play, I suppose we can do that play, too.

"A couple of months ago I went over there and she hands me a set list of what we're going to do a year and a half from now. So that's what going on now -- everyone wants to get out there at some point. The question is under what terms, or are there any terms. There seems to be a certain amount of political agendas to sort out. But, you know, whatever."

Doesn't mean I don't love Stevie and Lindsey together though. I do. I'm made that way.

You know I really hate that was ever published because it became the sole argument for concluding any and all PDA is staged.

You've said that you think their spats are contrived, to drum up interest and I think that's very unlikely.

Michele

No that's not what I said! I said that it makes just as much sense that they would be contriving - or exaggerating - their spats as it does to think any fondness or PDA is staged...

Michele

So the question is, why does he play along? Is it really just for the money?

There was that interview where she talks about how she and LB don't talk or spend time together at ALL for years in between FM gigs. They "just don't have that kind of relationship". And after all these years I don't believe it's because of the romance anymore, I think they are just two people who live in totally different universes and if it weren't for FMac they just wouldn't probably ever communicate at all. Stevie and Mick, on the other hand, are far more kindred spirits, "drama queens" as Mick likes to say and they really keep in touch. Mick seems to keep in touch with everyone, and to me it actually seems like *Mick* is the lynchpin to LB and SN getting together. I think there's a nostalgic love between the two but I'm still not sure even now how much they truly like each other. I know that's not a popular opinion, so I'll put on my helmet now. :D

Just like the joke about "good thing I had big hair." The way they delivered that line, we could tell that they'd shared the joke before.

I think he's doing that handholding to promote this tour. However, why does he want to tour with her in the first place? I don't think it's just for the money. I think he really does want to share things with her and the coming full circle goal is not mercenary. I think he values where they came from and the true moments they share that remind him of BN. I just think he gets frustrated that maybe there aren't enough true moments, due to the "machinery".

agree with that first bit.

still not sure the answer to the why question though. I do think money is definitely a part of it. There really is a limited window of time left for them to do the big tour thing and it would be a lost golden opportunity.

I guess if there's anyone in this band with "artistic integrity" it'd be LB for sure. I believe that's where his push for new material comes from-- he really does want them to have something new to contribute artistically before a tour (esp given that had nada for the LAST tour.. You can swear it's not another "greatest hits" tour, but two tours with nothing but your hits makes you a golden oldies act in my book. I think that notion bothers LB more than the others).

I'm thrilled they're going out but I agree with someone who posted previously about waiting for the *post-tour* interviews from Stevie where she talks about how awful it was and not what she wanted and etc etc.

Michele

Nah, wasn't directing that at you. I know and understand where you are coming from.

I don't even totally disagree with you about said clips. I just don't totally agree either. For instance, the Mick thing. He had not even gotten to that part when Lindsey had already looked down at Stevie's hand and seemingly wondered about holding it. Did they discuss that? I don't know. I just think it's bizarre. Maybe they feel bizarre about being filmed that way - and that's why it looks weird on camera. I don't know. It's just not something they would have to do in order to promote anything -even BN. They don't have to sit there and act like teenagers holding hands to publicize their old, dead romance... I'm sure if we thought about it we could even come up with examples.

Like you said earlier -- it's a bit warped.

To me, it's like Lindsey's ears perked up because he knew where Mick was going. "Oh yeah, this is the part about our incredible chemistry." So, I think he went for her hand then in anticipation of Mick and I think she knew he would be holding her hand.

Yet, flip the coin: those videos we only recently got from The Dance interviews what he is doing, kissing her head, is even more perverse and no I don't think that was planned. Stevie's reaction was not like she knew it was going to happen and there was a kind of underlying tension or feeling there that felt very real and suggested a lot. Michele

bombaysaffires

Nah, wasn't directing that at you.

Was it directed at me by chance?

I certainly don't think they hate each other. I've never used that word, ever.

I did say I don't think they like each other all that much, and went on to say they admit they don't keep in touch when the band isn't working... not like they do with other members of the band.

I just think they can still annoy each other even after all these years in ways that perhaps the other band members don't. And I believe they are still competitive with each other. Maybe not as virulently as they were in the late 70s and 80s.

It seems par for the course in bands. Take a look at *any* band that's been together forever. There are *always* tensions between the key players-- Paul McCartney and John Lennon, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend, hell even the Oasis brothers bashed each other up a lot. Look at Mick and John-- they can annoy the hell out of each other (watch John at the end of the DR documentary). I don't think it's any different with Stevie and Lindsey; they just have the distinction of having been lovers which adds another layer. As I said, I do think they have a nostalgic love for each other, but they really do live very different lives and outside the band (and history) they don't have a lot else in common anymore.

But again, that's what's so great about a free country. Everyone can think whatever they want.

I think Lindsey has a lot of creative ideas for the band that he wants to see come fruition, but has to play this game to make that happen. The harmonies he and Stevie produce are an awesome tool from a production standpoint. If there's any hope to make that happen, he has play along with the drama queens.

Bingo. I'm Pretty sure lindsey is in a creative flow, he brought out a big chunk of new work the last couple of years and besides touring intense, he recorded 8 potentially new Mactracks. He's been open for collaboration with Mitchell Froom, So he's in a state of being where anythings possible. The fact that he wrote and recorded those songs with FM, and Stevie in mind, is a break with the years of writing for solowork and bend it into FM. He's going to make a big load of money during this tour, and- as we all know by now, he's partially going to use that for the production of new music. Solo, or with the dramaqueens.

In my life there's been a few things worth singing 'bout you
Well, I never even dreamed that I'd know you
Strange are the ways of a very complicated world
And there you are

Come to me now and I'll never know another
You are song for me, melody ingrained in my soul
Sing, sing your song for my ears, they only hear you
If I never knew the likes of you where would I be - without you?
Without you, without you, without you

If I'd not heard your laughter maybe I wouldn't love you
If I'd not sung your music, I'd not come rolling after you
Cryin' out loud, the time had come and gone without you inside me
Love to be written about you
Strange are the ways of a very complicated world
And there you are

Come to me now and I'll never know another
You are song for me, melody ingrained in my soul
Sing, sing your song for my ears, they only hear you

See, I'm in virtually total disagreement. The hands aren't the only body language going on. They both tense a little when Mick starts talking. I think even today that Lindsey is very protective of Stevie and that kicks in, almost automatically. I think there is a lot under the surface regarding Mick Fleetwood and I always have, even before I knew about the affair. Think about it - who has profitted the most from their heartbreak?

In my deepest heart, I believe that SnL would still be together if they hadn't joined FM. There is a big secret there - a BIG secret. I think that Lindsey and Stevie were both manipulated early on - whatever lies they were told they believed. I believe that they were very reactionary towards each other and those reactions just escalated the situation because their emotions were involved.

I keep thinking back to that CAH book that I just read, according to her - he frequently used the word "safe" with her, almost as if it was an obsession. There is a reason for that, a man typically doesn't obsess over safety unless something has happened in the past, maybe even to someone else. Maybe Lindsey deep down blamed himself for the fact that Stevie got so involved in drugs. I don't know. But, I do know that there is a "there" there. And we may never learn the full truth.

That's right! They do. I also noticed in a couple of the youtube clips of the IYD documentary that at one point Mick asked Stevie a question and she just straight out ignored him. I'm a psychiatric nurse and I detox people off drugs all the time (among patients with other problems) I have to watch body language as a part of my job. There is a shift in FM that has been going on for awhile. I would almost bet that SnL's anger fell away with some bit of information that was shared between them.

I think Lindsey has a lot of creative ideas for the band that he wants to see come fruition, but has to play this game to make that happen. The harmonies he and Stevie produce are an awesome tool from a production standpoint. If there's any hope to make that happen, he has play along with the drama queens.
i think that's a huge part of it, yes.

also, he does love Stevie and all they've shared / how far they've travelled since their start in high school and whoever said the whole cycles remark (that Lindsey keeps repeating also), i think is very on the point. i think (besides the college fund for his kids :D and the thrill of performing for huge adoring crowds), wanting to some full circle and create with SN again is a big part of his wanting to still come back to FM from time to time.

Solo, or with the dramaqueens.
  and i hope that new music comes out sooner (this year!) rather than later.

actually Sound City Players appearance on Letterman yesterday got me thinking of something else - if FM releases some new music before they start a tour, they may get an appareance on Letterman or similar to promote both new music and the tour, which they wouldn't get if they only tour as an oldies / greatest hits band or from repackaging old music. they would not only be selling areans as similar dinasaur bands do, but actually look relevant in the process too.

claiming that general audience reactions are the same whether or not there's a chemistry between main players is ridicouluos and incorrect. i've read enough reviews about their shows mentioning a lack of "that famous chemistry" when there is none.

they know well that it's one of their selling points (as they keep mentioning), so of course they play it up.

let's hope chemistry and some good performances and peace in the house is there for the tour too.

You know that scene in Mean Girls where the girl who 'doesn't even go here' is telling everyone that she just wants them to be happy and like bake rainbows or something weird like that.
I'm going to be that girl right now.
I don't understand why we have to argue about this, if you don't like what goes on in a certain thread, just don't go there.

I'm done.

I guess I kind of straddle the line. Here's my essay on the matter and then I don't think I'll have much else to say about it haha.

Obviously there are things they do that are planned and staged. I don't find it offensive that they stage their stage shows... most artists do. You'll find Dolly Parton reads the same stories off a teleprompter between songs night after night after night. It's just how things are done nowadays, for the most part. We should really be happy they don't have back-up dancers and that Stevie isn't doing choreography  It'd be nice if everything were spontaneous and off the cuff, but the reality is that planning things ahead of times makes it so that they can ensure the shows aren't boring, so if they're having an off night they are still giving something to those watching. And yes, SnL stage interactions with each other specifically because they know the audience will enjoy that. I don't exactly love that this happens, but I accept it because I understand the reasoning. Wish it were different but I've come to terms with it I guess.

However, I don't think every breath these people take and every word out of their mouth is scripted and rehearsed. To me, that's just as ridiculous as assuming that everything they do is 100% in the moment. They aren't robots. Do they want money? Probably. Do they need money? Probably not. Will holding hands during interviews get them more money? A negligible amount, if anything, honestly... Is anyone really going to watch this and go "Oh man, Stevie touched Lindsey's arm. I've gotta get tickets now." They'd get more publicity if it were MICK and Lindsey holding hands. Does it drum up interest? Sure, but only among people like us who are already nuts over the band anyway.

Personally, I don't doubt that in the On The Red Carpet interview Lindsey grabbed Stevie's hand because he could tell Mick was about to talk to him. That makes sense to me to do in general, and I don't think that it necessarily means they had some kind of huddle before the interview where they strategically planned out the logistics of every answer and every interaction. The other moments seemed spontaneous to me. Of course it wouldn't appear natural to us, because it's not something we're used to seeing happen. So no, I personally don't entirely think that the hand holding itself was staged. The notion that they would focus on/play up their relationship - sure. And I think that probably is what opened the door for all of that stuff being done in the interviews.

Saying they are 'old friends' is grossly oversimplifying their relationship - but in regards to these press PDA's, I'll suggest that it seems to me that the death of Stevie's mother really has shifted their dynamic a little bit and perhaps one of the reasons they seem to both be in a very sappy state of mind regarding each other. Maybe they are finally at a place where they feel ABLE to show genuine affection for each other without any underlying tension or contempt or whatever else may have been there in the past (and might still be there, but is being overlooked for the time behind - who knows). I'd imagine that would be nice for them at this point in their lives.

Then again, I come from a touchy-feely family who holds hands and kisses all the time and stuff so I tend to have a different perspective on this kind of thing than a lot of others, I realize.

And anyawys, I do think they are creepy, in a weird but sweet kind of way. It's not normal to do that naturally, and it's still quite odd to do it even if it was planned . But they aren't very normal people so I don't know why we would expect them to be.

*phew* Just my opinion, obviously.

I think Mick and Stevie use a lot of the same language. And they tell a lot of the same stories and obviously have a lot of discussions with one another. I don't think Mick and Stevie are lovers, but I think they converse with one another an awful lot in between Mac ventures. More than Stevie and Lindsey do.

Lindsey and Stevie anticipate each other's movements and they always have. I think they do it because of the amount of time they spend together on the stage. That's what was always so fascinating about Angel is that Stevie was absolutely obsessed with whether Lindsey was coming to her mic or not. I don't know whether there were nights when he didn't, but he did when I saw them and on the clips we have, yet she can't stop looking at him to make sure he's coming.

On stage, she always knows where he is. Today and yesterday. In the video from the old tour when she is steaming her face and he is crossing the room, she is so nervous about him crossing. She treks his entire path over there and he seems to go out of his way to cross behind her, when he could have exited another way.

He does still make her nervous, even tongue-tied. On stage, she will stare him right to the ground and I don't mean during choreographed moments like Say Goodbye or when they turn their mics to each other in SYLM. I mean, she just spends lots of time looking at him in general and, at times, in those 1997 videos, for instance, he has still been infatuated with her. They share something real, but right now they are displaying something very fake.

They didn't really have to plan out every answer, because they were answering the same questions they've been getting for 30 years now. So, there was nothing to plan on that score. However, I think "passion" and "chemistry" is the theme of the next tour as there has been a concerted effort to distinguish it from the last tour, so it's something that Mick, Stevie and Lindsey are actively promoting.

I wouldn't necessarily say that they are doing it for money. Money is a big draw for doing the tour in the first place, but now that that's locked in, I think they want this to be a good tour experience, just for personal reasons. Unleashed was better than SYW emotionally, but it was kind of boring, to Stevie at least. I think they are trying to go in with a new dynamic this time and their vaunted chemistry is a part of the dynamic they're trying to play up.

I didn't find Unleashed boring --except for the fact that we had no new album and no new pictures. I mean, I didn't find the show itself boring as a concert experience.

As for chemistry, you can't contrive it, but you can try and I think you actually lose chemistry when you do that, which is why I thought the Tusk dance was stupid and actually hard to watch.

I guess. I didn't see any SYW shows. But this goes back to performances & building on something that once was a real / organic / genuine / spontaneous display that happened in a show once and it got audience reaction and they built on it. I'm sure they even look for those moments. After 40 years or thereabouts does it become old hat and look that way? Sure. It's inevitable. It doesn't mean it's not still there, under the surface of facade.

Stevie recently has done the same in her appearances with Grohl. Sundance was awesome, then she begins looking for ways to emulate that lightning in a bottle. You can't really do it.

The thing about chemistry is that it's also somewhat subjective.

Two people might feel chemistry between each other but it might not be visible to anyone else, or maybe only to some.

I can't tell you how many TV shows/movies I've watched where I've sat there completely bored and not believing it because the characters (or actors) had absolutely NO spark or chemistry to me, and yet there were other people who felt the exact opposite and raved on about the connection etc.

Well, they didn't build up to the Tusk dance, it was done the first show out. It was a whole choreographed bit, which was meant to end with them putting down their weapons and embracing. It was extremely stupid. It actually got better over time, because they dropped some of the staged elements.

But I just cited that as an example of why I think you can try to create or present chemistry for display and fail miserably.

YES! I completely agree. I still find the first set of videos..with mistakes and *almost* or actually missing cues..to be the best. She hasn't matched the intensity of SDMHA since Sundance. I truly wish she would just let it happen..whatever that "it factor" may be. She's almost there, but I think there is still a fear of messing up in the back of her mind.

Yes, it's not something that's cut and dry. And on tv, there's this tendency to think if you put people together who both have charisma that they will have chemistry as a couple. It doesn't happen that way.

There is something that some people have together, where they share an entire dialogue without speaking and the other person makes you vulnerable or causes you to react in a way that reveals something inside you involuntarily and that's what chemistry is to me. Some people get softer and less guarded around another ("something in you brought out something in me") and it's not exactly a comfortable thing, because sometimes maybe you WANT the guard, the shield. So, being around the other person makes them feel more submissive or exposed or emotional than they want to be. It's very moving.

d,

Indeed, they vie. I'm reminded of DR when they were arguing over what to play for the record executives. Stevie wanted to play her songs and LB was saying they should play the whole album. Stevie said the execs wouldn't sit for a whole album, etc. He said it's their job. It's always a battle.

When they are fumbling with each other physically, I think it's because there's a certain self-consciousness and Stevie gets flustered. It's like when he first came to AHI, I think Stevie was genuinely excited and she just didn't know what to do with herself. She didn't know whether to walk across the stage to meet him or let him come all the way over or what. It was cute to watch. I think her intro was going to be, "What can I say about Lindsey Buckingham." But she started off: "what can I say? Can I say it yet?" It was hysterical.

Maybe that's why they often rehearse interaction instead of letting things happen naturally, to avoid the fumbling -- which, to me, is more enchanting than the rote.

Maybe he won't give it an intro, like it didn't have one on the solo tour. You know, before Rhiannon, during NGBA Stevie used to get dressed for Rhiannon on the stage itself. She would sing her NGBA parts and then move off to the side and someone would be taking off her top and putting on her black sleeves.

Maybe she could do something like that for Stephanie, where she might be on stage at the beginning and be part of the intro and they could use that song for Lindsey's dedication to whomever (Landslide being hers) and then she could recede to the side, while it's playing.

Well, it was just Big Love, Landslide, NGBA.

They seem to like to do 3 in a row. When they had Big Love, Landslide, Say Goodbye, they didn't do those 3 back to back with NGBA.

When they had Big Love, Go Insane and Landslide, for The Dance they didn't even do NGBA at all. So, I don't know if they'd want to do 4 in a row.

 The big thing to watch if you suspect that someone is acting or trying to manipulate you is the involuntary physical responses that no person can control. That tells the truth and cannot be manipulated for any reason. Just as an example, a person's pupils dilate when they see something that pleases them or someone they love. By the same token, if a person sees something or someone they don't like, their pupils will constrict. Think about that show Lie To Me - it covered a wide range of these involuntary responses and is actually a very good learning tool if you are interested in body language analysis. It particularly focuses on micro-expressions in the face but other parts of body language are covered as well. And you are right, mirroring is a very significant part of analyzing a relationship between individuals. When people are "in sync" they mirror each other without even realizing that they are doing so - it can be very entertaining. ;) This is why some actors immerse themselves in their roles - they must find a way to think and feel like their character or these involuntary movements and expressions will give away the fact that they are acting.

Unleashed was a DRAGGGGGG....Incredibly boring. The arrangements were nearly identical to SYW or previous solo tours. Stevie was sick for nearly the whole thing. By the end of it she sounded horrible.

After five years of greatest hits touring behind that, I was nearly floored when she said she was doing an album. Unleashed was the last thing I associate with the "greatest hits hell" era.

Since 2011, Stevie has brought new excitement and pleasure into her solo shows. I hope this Mac tour doesn't slow that rush down and believe me, the potential is high. Unless they totally revamp (aka more than 5 deep cuts) I think there are going to be a lot of sad faces around here, mine included. Not to mention, the Mac tours go...all...year...long...

I'm praying for an interesting set and really great new songs!

Yeah, I was comparing it to what my friends had said the SYW tour was like. It seemed to be very different, no excitement. But, I do think GDW changed up. It's too bad it wasn't until the end of the tour.

I think it will be a great show, based on what Stevie is saying in interviews, but it seems she hasn't slowed down a whole lot and I hope she doesn't get too tired too soon. It will affect the entire tour and she will be dialing in her performances.

I read online that the song Thrown Down was written about what happened in 1997. That Lindsey had been flirting with Stevie during The Dance (see the 5-member interview on Youtube), and they quite possibly rekindled their relationship in an affair when Lindsey found out his girlfriend was pregnant. Does anyone know if this has any credence?

This is a theory that a lot of people believe or talk about. Stevie also has admitted Fall From Grace is about Linds, and was written during The Dance tour. Who knows what really happened, but it seems like if Stevie put out Thrown Down and Fall From Grace, and told us both were indeed about Linds, she seems to want us to believe something happened.

Very interesting, thanks for the response. I didn't know Fall From Grace was written then, too. Hmmmm....could anything along these lines be connected to why Christine really left the band?? Something like a betrayal of trust, being upset with his antics, I don't know.

To be fair, the documentary was filmed over 2 years ago, and was finalized quite a while ago as well.

And oddly enough, I really don't think Stevie is aware of how ridiculous its inclusion seems to the general public (or fandom, perhaps I should say). I think she genuinely feels that Lindsey was rudely telling her to change her style of writing. Of course he wasn't, but that's how she felt. I'm not sure that she really meant it to be a personal dig (she did say she brings it up with love) as she did an example of why he's hard to work with and why working with Dave was so much easier for her.

:D A little new to this blog but been lurking for some time. I suppose I am in the "shipper" kinda column. I saw this in the www.ndependent.co.uk , dtd 26 Jun 2011.

Stevie Nicks: 'Love is fleeting for me...in my life as a travelling woman'

A few paragraphs read: Another recurring theme on In Your Dreams is the idea of love as fleeting. "Certainly it is for me, in my life as a travelling woman who is never anywhere for long, and will be gone the morning after the big show. There's a line on In Your Dreams that goes 'I'm always in and out of your light', and to lovers, ex-lovers, people we used to love, people we don't even love any more, I'm saying 'You'll never be rid of me, I'm right down the middle of all your dreams'."

Without any prompting, Nicks brings up Buckingham, whom she met as 16-year-old at school in California and stayed with for 11 years.

"It's like Lindsey and me: no matter how many children or grandchildren you have, Lindsey, I'm always gonna be there. Lindsey has these three marvellous children, and that has given him unconditional love, which is what he always wanted. I couldn't give him that. But I know a lot of Lindsey's songs are about me, because a lot of my songs are about him. I call us 'our Miserable Muses'. In a band like Fleetwood Mac, you have arguments, and it makes for great art."

She's warming to her theme, the slightest smile playing about her lips. "So is he sorry that our relationship broke up in 1976? Yes. And if he had to do it all over, would he not move to LA, and maybe try to find our record deal in San Francisco? Yes. Because we both believe that we might still be together. Probably not, but it's possible .... When we're together, and people see the two of us walking towards them, we are a force of nature. Absolutely."

You folks have probably read this but it was new reading for me.

I like that in this interview, she says "we both believe that we might still be together" if they hadn't joined Fleetwood Mac. Many times she'll just say Lindsey believes it. However, I think - and this interview bears that out - that the reason she keeps bringing it up is because SHE believes it, too.

I was struck by an interview a few weeks ago that Lindsey gave to a radio station and when asked about the possibility that he and Stevie might get back together and announce it on stage during this tour, he laughed and said something to the effect, "I have three children (kids) now. So that's not gonna happen." He did not say I am married, I am happily married to my beautiful wife Kirsten, etc. Seemed odd. Maybe just a slip. Also seems strange that he is gone so much from his family. He is touting more tours next year with Stevie and FM. When a man stays away from his "wife" as much as Lindsey, and holds hands and hugs and gropes an ex flame, seems things are not right on "the home front." Sometimes absence makes the heart grow fonder, but Linds does not look all that happy when he is cuddling the Mrs. Even Stevie omitted to mention the Mrs. in this interview. But then I have always thought they are indeed soul mates and the ties or "chains" that bind them together cannot be broken. I am a hopeless romantic and if my husband acted this way with an ex-flame even for large amounts of money or for the show of it, I would be extremely concerned. So before I get into "trouble" with my opinions.....

I expressed these concerns previously too. Just seems weird to me for them to flaunt it around for the world to see, regardless of the reason, when he's got a wife and kids. You can be close friends or whatever without being all touchy feely.

i hear you but aren't rock stars mostly touchy-feely? Lindsey seems a pretty touchy feely guy from limited encounters i had. just look at all the fan photos with him, he's obviously not afraid of physical contact with people.

i know that sells (just look at this thread!), but personally i do hate it that he's being defined yet again, since this tour was announced and videos and interviews started trickling in, primarily by this one relationship, when in the last 2 years during solo tours he finally was starting to be recognized as a great guitarist first.

I think most people in the entertainment world are touchy-feely. Performers. I've seen cast mates on a show doing what I would call making out with each other and they were just saying, "goodbye. See you Monday." They don't have to be romantically involved.

With Stevie and Lindsey, as long as they have known each other, it would be odder to me if they didn't have their arms around each other, at the very least.

As far as Lindsey's solo identity, it's the same as post-SYW and post-Unleashed, after he puts out new music. When he's solo again the focus on his individual talents will be back again. They may ask him about when he's going to be with FM again, but other than that, he'll have new material to talk about and they won't be inquiring about his relationship with Stevie in the media anymore.

Even though I felt UTS (and Shut Us Down before it) was largely about Stevie, Kristen and The Dance, the media at large wasn't asking him about Stevie when they heard those songs. Instead, he got to talk about the decision to go with only light rhythm, why he didn't finish GOS, etc. It was very much about him.

Perhaps it's because I'm also a super touchy-feely person, but I agree. In fact, at shows when they have less physical contact I've often heard people wondering if they were fighting (rather than thinking it seemed normal ).

Everything I know about Stevie indicates to me that she's very handsy, and by all accounts Lindsey seems to share that quality. They don't only show physical affection toward each other (Stevie went over to John for a hug/kiss at Jazz Fest, for a recent example) but put two people like them who have known each other as long as they have front and center in a show that's largely focusing on their dynamic and history... it only makes sense that there would be the so-called "love fest."

That's not to say it's not slightly strange and out of many people's comfort zones, given the past and that Lindsey is married with kids and all. But clearly it's within their own comfort zone so I'm not gonna sit around worrying about it.

Yes, I think Stevie and Lindsey do play a lot of stuff up. That prolonged hand-holding during the pre-tour interviews got ridiculous in my book. Then, there are times when I think their interaction is unusually frisky (like those Dance interviews we had where Lindsey clearly seems to be flirting).

But then there's just the everyday stuff. I believe that holding hands when they take the stage (or back stage when they're waiting to go on) and embracing is completely natural. You know, Mick said that he used to cuddle in bed with Peter for warmth. Just the fact that you've known someone since your youth, traveled with them in cramped conditions, been in bed with them, celebrated with them, seen them physically ill, etc. . . . you're going to find it very normal to come into physical contact with them. At this point, it's got to be like a reflex reaction.

I agree, The thing about their contact that can be eyebrow raising has more to do with the intimacy that is suggested by it than just a simple hand holding or a hug. I have yet to see them touch anyone else in quite the same way - even other former "lovers". I've always thought it speaks volumes.

"It's like Lindsey and me: no matter how many children or grandchildren you have, Lindsey, I'm always gonna be there. Lindsey has these three marvellous children, and that has given him unconditional love, which is what he always wanted. I couldn't give him that. The unconditional love, or the kids?

Good question. I think she means that she couldn't do unconditional love... ironic since her song of that name claims such love is the only true kind of love (yes, I know it was written by Sandy Stewart).

I couldn't do that either. Unconditional love is reserved for kids and family. Any boyfriends, on the other hand, gotta meet some conditions before they get my love - and they gotta work to keep it! Maybe that's why I've never had a relationship last more than a year, lol.

ANYWAY it makes me think of "Smile At You." "What you did not need was a woman who was stronger. You needed someone to depend on you. I could not be her; I did not want to."

I hesitate to speculate about his family life. That makes me a bit uncomfortable.

I, too, don't like to speculate much on his family life (anymore).

Old habits die hard, and I sincerely believe that Stevie and Lindsey are simply so comfortable with one another at this point. It's easy to understand why one would seek comfort in the form of a hand squeeze or hug when performing for the masses. Or even get a bit lost in the moment. "Ten thousand voices cryin' 'on with the show.'"

But I sometimes find it a bit odd. That a couple that broke up in the 70s would continue to go back and forth to this day. I was a bit taken aback when Lindsey "admitted" that "It Takes Time" was inspired by Stevie. I don't think it truly ended in the 70s and there is a lot we don't know. As long as they continue to talk about their relationship, people will stay interested in it. There is a strange fascination there.

Also, I think Kristen is a very secure woman and I give her props for that. You'd have to be!

Haha. I agree.

Mick and Stevie seem to have a really deep and easy relationship. It's all of the love and none of the tension. If I thought they were still physically attracted to one another, I'd be sure they'd try to rekindle the spark. And when I saw them giggling and holding hands for a prolonged interview, it wasn't for the cameras. Actually, they both seemed a little tipsy. Or maybe they were just fatigued and losing brain cells quickly. But they seem very companionable.

Mick is something else, really. A big hunk of glue. Everyone's axis to each other.

I haven't read this yet, I Love it!!! Sorry to jump in here, I'm new (kinda) I think I was part of this group a loooong time ago

I subscribe to a website called Stevie Nicks Info. Into my mailbox I just received two interesting articles. One is about defending Stevie against her critics. Beautiful article. I agree w/her 100%. Loved it. The other is an article on Lindsey. Something seems so odd about his response. He is talking and if I did not know he is supposed to have a wife by name of Kristen, I would think he is talking about Stevie being his wife. He never mentions Kristen by name AGAIN. I have recentely gotten this computer and am a complete idiot about the "know how" of linking anything on Firefox. But I know how to copy and paste. Part of the article written by Julia St. Pierre/Los Angeles Magazine reads:

(Lindsey speaking)
I had a house up in Bel-Air for a long time. It was not a family house; it was a bachelor house. So we bulldozed it. My wife was quite happy because there was a lot of symbolism to having everything that went before bulldozed. We are in Brentwood now. We needed to come down off the hill.

I’ve thought about whether it would be advisable or possible to move out, but this is the thing about Los Angeles: People come here and they stay. It’s not just because there is an illusionary carrot, although that is part of it. You could probably find actors or musicians who are not much younger than myself who still haven’t caught their break. So that’s part of what drives Los Angeles. If you do happen to get lucky, as Stevie and I did, then there are reasons to stay. Unless you want to be Neil Young and live up in the mountains, there’s not a lot of motivation to move. Whatever there may be about the city that you could take to task, it’s a pretty great place.

I don’t think I would’ve wanted to raise my kids elsewhere, but it is a mixed bag. Growing up in Atherton, you could just get on your bike, go to school, and come home. You had a level of autonomy that doesn’t exist for kids today. Some of that has to do with L.A. and some of it has to do with the times. I grew up in one place. Stevie, on the other hand — her dad was a businessman who uprooted his family regularly, so she learned how to make a splash everywhere they went. It took its toll on her in other ways, and that’s not something I want for my kids. We’re dug in here, and we’re happy.

I was being objective when I read the article. It was written May 23, 2013 which is today. I keep thinking about what Mick Fleetwood said in another interview before the tour started that "the flame was about to be re-ignited again." Don't know with whom he was talking about. Anyone's guess. He is separated and could be him. Or with his long absences in between solo tours and FleetwoodMac tours and forgetting to mention the wife from time to time, could be Lindsey. Or maybe just selling tickets. Who knows. These people sure know how to keep the curiosity peaked. For me anyway. I love them.

I noticed after posting part of it from Stevie Nicks Info, it had alread been posted in entirety on another thread. The older I get, the slower I become. I wish I had FleetwoodMac's energy. there really are two long-lived couples on that stage... Stevie and Lindsey, of course, but also John and Mick. They've been together just as long as S&L and have just as complicated a history. (No sex, presumably, but certainly love). They've been through a LOT together, and they like each other and get along better on some days than others. We just never hear from John anymore, so it isn't as titillating.

And frankly, I find the LB/Mick relationship fascinating and complex....there's a book just in that dynamic alone.

Yes, for the SYW tour, Lindsey said that John and Mick still had some things to work out and you wouldn't think that would be true after all these years. That's the same line he's using for himself and Stevie today.

Do you notice in the Without You intro when Stevie talks about seeing the song on Youtube, sometimes she mentions how it accompanied a montage of some beautiful photos of her and Lindsey? I mean, clearly she was pleased with the photos. I can see her watching Youtube and thinking, "We look good!"

It makes me laugh that Stevie seems to truly appreciate the craftsmanship that was involved in making that shipper vid. And yes, she clearly loved the pictures. Although I don't think the hands-on-head-and-hip pose she strikes during the story actually reflects anything either of them were doing in the photos.

Speaking of that, when Stevie says that "no where in the description of lead guitarist does it say 'and his hippy girlfriend," the way she waggles her hips at that point makes me think of the word "hippy" as describing a body part, rather than the hippie 1960s' subculture in which she came of age.

I wonder what friends found the WY video and showed it to her. I'd feel a bit presumptuous doing that - like it might be rude to insinuate that she might not remember a song she had written (by virtue of being like "oh look at this forgotten song!"). If that wasn't their reason for showing it to her, then what was? "Oh, look at these pictures of you and Lindsey! Youth! Glory!"

But if it was just Karen (or Lori or Sharon) she could say, "oh Stevie I've never heard this song. How come you never told me about it before? When did you record it? It must have been before we met."

Inwardly, she could be thinking that Stevie didn't remember the song, but she wouldn't have to present it to Stevie like that.

Oh, Stevie is VERY conscious of her image and very carefully monitors and controls it. I'm not surprised at ALL that she knows about YT videos and everything else. I think her nonsense about computers and the internet is just a smokescreen. Not that I necessarily think SHE personally digs through the various social media sites (I recall a magazine interview where the reporter notes that she had to call Karen just to turn the disco ball in her living room on). I agree it's likely Karen and whoever else in her entourage that finds them and shows them to her. Doing it herself is beneath a ROCK STAH legend....... I love mama but she is who she is.....

It would be kind of cool to have so much of your life captured on video and photos. There are so many things I wish I had of family, friends, and I, captured by photos, let alone video. It would be really fun to see so much from the past. Stevie should really ask a friend to help her figure out youtube and even just image searching because she would probably enjoy seeing it all, like a huge scrapbook.

The woman in the picture looks a lot more like Stevie than the guy does Lindsey, to me. But then there are a lot of early Lindsey pictures where his looks kind of surprise me. And maybe Stevie's habit of wearing white at other people's weddings stretches just that far back ;)

That's what I was thinking. Stevie looks like old pics of her, but I questioned Lindsey. Although it is kind of a blurry picture. But so pretty.

Desiree
07-21-2013, 03:18 AM
Lol, I remember reading that.

I'm sure Stevie and Lindsey are at ease around each other after all this time, it's probably not all that weird for them. Certainly sometimes I'll hold hands with my mother or my sister while we're watching a movie or something and I don't feel awkward, because I'm just so used to them

At this point, regardless of all the history/drama, they're bound to be ~old friends~ enough to the point that they can enjoy and feel comfortable showing affection in that way.

It's just awkward for us because they're holding hands while talking about the fact that they practically were married a million years ago, Lindsey IS married, Stevie has a dog, and every night they relive their love affair onstage

Ok...is there ANY other past couple in ANY field that you know of who have what Stevie and Lindsey have had since they were 16. And, this thread is turning me into a shipper!!!!!! They seem so awkward because it's like Stevie said about the Angel segment on Tusk...being filmed with all of your feelings written all over your face (and body) tends to make one feel very vulnerable. Their newfound friendship and understanding of one another seems to have changed them from a bitter looking old married couple to a happy looking married couple.

Desiree

I think there is some exaggeration about just how much everything is choreographed. Yes, there are guidelines I'm sure, yes and no subjects, etc. but just the amount of interviews they do surrounding a tour makes for rote memorization. And, they are old school...they put a show together and pretty much stick. The same thing can only be said so many ways! I think the next leg of the tour just might see them getting a little more comfortable and 'organic' on stage. The trust Lindsey has spoken of regarding Stevie toward him seems to have finally been earned. I feel like the talks they speak of before this tour are the ones that they've needed to have for all these years. Whatever it is, it's lovely to see them this way!
