I look at it this way: both Britney Spears and Lady Gaga have albums that will drop in 2011. They both have finished recording them and both have promised their lead single by either January or February. Yet, both albums do not have a release date set yet, and Britney's album doesn't have a title yet.

So my point is that it is nothing out of the ordinary that Stevie hasn't announced a title or release date yet. Dave on the other hand has announced his album title, artwork and a timeframe for release, but that's because he's releasing the album on his own label, WME. Now, it's possible that they are working out a deal to have Stevie also release her album on Dave's label, which is why he could be being so coy about the time for the release, which could also explain why he's saying "mid to late Spring".

I agree 100%.
So what if it's a couple of months late?

At least she's giving us something.

She doesn't have to record this album (Which I am looking forward too) at all.

I agree as well!
Example: I LOVE Grace Slick and she is RETIRED!
I love Christine McVie and she is RETIRED!

I am pleased as punch Stevie is doing a new album, and I fully believe the delay is the record label's fault, considering her producer announced the finished product was laying in wait.

I have never been on here to bicker, I just love the site, and what it stands for. This is only my opinion.

I too am just gratful that there is going to be a new (Stevie) album. If asked if I thought Stevie would make another album I would of said doubtful, new FM probable. So im just thrilled she took the time to do this.

As far as covers go, as a artist I think it pays homage to other artist to do there songs and a treat for the artist to do so. More then 1-2 is pushing it I think. If I was a artist I would no doubt cover a Stevie song!

Seriously, if this release gets pushed back any later then July there will be some pretty pissed off fans, rightly so too. This is par for Stevie's cource as we all know too well!

I asked Dave Stewart on twitter if it is true about Dave and Stevie touring together in the New Year - has responded by saying ' could be, its possible' -
:) I have now gone back and asked if there is any possibility they may come to the UK - see if he responds (for all UK fans!!!)

It is pretty simple Louie, if you can't subscribe to that train of thought, then that is okay, you're opinion is just invalid. Your disappointments and skepticism will be written off as unnecessary complaints and bitterness!

On a serious note, I know Stevie doesn't owe us anything and I sure as hell am glad she is making a new album! I am grateful for everything Stevie has given us. But I have given her plenty of my money and my time and she has publicly made statements about her plans, I feel I am entitled to be disappointed when her statements become falsehoods. I'm not turning my back on Stevie and condemning her for not meeting the release date, but am I disappointed? Hell yeah! And SHE should be grateful she has fans who are disappointed they have to wait longer, she could have nobody waiting to buy it at all.

Remember Stevie Lyrics: Disappointment was my middle name.

Well as a fan of Stevie's, Disappointment has been stamped on my ass.

My best guess is WB or a major label will release the new CD, and they will set the timetable, according to when they can best market the new material. For one, they will not settle for just releasing it for fans. The best thing about WB is they have multiple platforms at their access (TV show, films) to promote a song. One of the best things to be posted recently was that the "new media" VP was listening to the CD. That could very well mean it it going to be given a full-force marketing campaign, especially if the studio also feels it's a "career-making" CD.

She very well could be trailblazing a path that makes some of the older artists relevant again, in which a marketing dept. would require a good 3-4 months to build-up a campaign.

The usual Nicksian delay doesn't bother me too much by now..I would be kind of suspicious if she did release it on the intially scheduled date.:laugh:I agree with Joe as well that the anticipation leading up to it is half the excitement of the process. This could very well be the last time we ever have that.

Thank you for the voice of reason! I get so tired of Stevie getting blamed for delays that could very well have everything to do with the label...

The great news is we know the record is done, all 14 tracks! AND Stevie and various others appear to be beyond thrilled with the results. So one way or another the record will be released IMO anywhere between March thru June-to capitalize on a shed summer tour. I would be extremely shocked  (not to mention catatonic) if the released were pushed beyond that. By all accounts this is no SA or even RAL where Stevie and Co. were unhappy with the sessions & went back to the drawing board and scrapped material. I'm in the camp of I didn't think we would see another solo record, and hence I'm extremely grateful to be only months away from hearing very possibly one of the best things Stevie may have ever released. Or at least since the early 80's.;) Cause I do think she can easily top TISL.

And on top of all the excitement of a finished record awaiting release now Mick is hinting although FM will not be touring in 2011 that they may be "contemplating the beginnings of another Fleetwood Mac album. When it rains it pours. Hopefully.

Eh, if she wants to play the main/big sheds, she's going to need some help. Maybe something like Heart as a supporting act.

Even better. I would love if Stevie played smaller venues. But you're right - they probably are looking at all those possibilities with booking her tour. Is Dave Stewart on his own enough to sell additional tickets?? Will they nab a supporting act like Chris Issak again? Heart or heck what about Pat Benatar? That would be a great ticket. I'm sure they will dream up something.

I'm not holding my breath about the 14 tracks and the album being finished. If I remember correctly, didn't she play the "finished" version of TISL and hand out some copies prior to its release? But the version she played had 16 tracks, unlike the release which only had 13, and it had different mixes for some songs?

I hope not but wonder: does SN have cold feet about this solo cd?
Mick and now LB have played on tracks. Might it turn into a Fleetwood Mac cd with Dave producing? All they have to do is add John on bass.
Probably not. Maybe?

That's certainly possible... she's been quite insecure this past decade. However, she seems to be so terribly proud of her work with Dave. She's calling it the best of her career. Following the dirty things she's said about her last recordings with Fleetwood Mac, I can't imagine she'd want to roll the best work of her life into Fleetwood Mac. It could all be an elaborate ruse to fluster Lindsey Buckingham, but I'd hope Stevie isn't that childish in her 60s. To me it seems more likely that they're all just trying to properly set the stage for the next Fleetwood Mac project by being involved in each other's current solo works. I think they all badly want to right the course after Say You Will, and they know they have to establish personal trust to do that.

I definitely don't think it's cold feet. In fact, if it were up to Stevie, she'd probably release it tomorrow! What Warner Bros is probably planning for the marketing campaign is two-fold: not only is this Stevie's first solo album in 10 years, but it also marks the 30th anniversary of her debut solo album. These are two remarkable feats and I'm sure Warner is trying to put all of the pieces together for a successful marketing strategy.

Another possible scenario is that Stevie is currently in the process of having the album released under Dave's label, WME. It could explain why Dave is saying mid to late spring is the new projected timeframe for release, and it could also explain why he's being so coy at the moment.

It's hard to tell if she's been insecure or just plain unsatisfied with the sales of TISL & SYW. I suspect a bit of both. Industry people & management telling her why bother recording new material with all the pirating & her conscience wondering if she could artistically top TISL. But alas she is now in a place (according to one of her Aug. interviews) where she is on record saying she's not all that concerned if it sells a ton or not - which bodes well for creativity:). Hauling millions of tour $$$ from 03' through 09' certainly did not hurt either. Ultimately, I think Stevie needs this to be her time to shine as a solo artist and wrap a perfect bow around her solo career per say...in order for her to be happy recording with FM one more time.

Lots of planning goes into releasing a CD when it's done thru the major labels. Not only must they devise a marketing campaign, but chances are good they are still developing art work and the overall package. Plus, the artist could very well ask for time to rest, or lose weight or get ready for the onslaught that often comes with a new release and tour.

You just don't record an album one day and release it the next. Even Dave isn't doing that, and he's on his own label! Many, many people become part of the marketing+advertising team, and that's not to mention getting everyone and everything being scheduled strategically so the rollout is smooth and seamless. I doubt WB will pass up the opportunity to totally capitalize on this new work if it seems like a winner. Chances are very slim they'll ever get another solo CD from her (at least not in the pop/rock genre.)

See? That's a train of thought I just can't subscribe to. Stevie hasn't put out new material with regularity since the 1980s. We've had the prospect of new Stevie/Mac albums waived in our faces by her for years, yet we've been neglected by her for a full decade now. Despite that, Stevie still has the braggadocio to call herself prolific. In the meantime her live performances have become increasingly indifferent, and riddled with cover songs no Stevie fan is interested in. Then Stevie lashes out at her fans saying they no longer buy her music and rails against trading her unreleased music. But when she gets around to recording something which is half written by another artist, we're supposed to just lap it up and be grateful? I adore Stevie, I truly do, but being a fan of her for decades just really pushes my personal allegiance to her.

For what it's worth, I hope this album comes out on time, I hope it surpasses all our wildest dreams, it sells remarkably well, and she finally gets the industry recognition she deserves. I really do hope we all get our Stevie cake, and can eat it too.

Good. If he is smart, he'll try to capitalize on the anniversaries in 2012 (45th for Mac/35th Rumours/25th TITN/15th The Dance.) I'd say he should push it to 2017, but I'm being realistic here.

Eh, if she wants to play the main/big sheds, she's going to need some help. Maybe something like Heart as a supporting act.

Heart supporting? I don't think so. But it's not like Stevie should support Heart either. I think Stevie & Heart co-headlining would be a huge draw - they both have relatively large fan bases, plus many casual fans of both who might not pay to see 1 or the other, but would pay to see both on 1 bill.

A few years ago? Maybe. Critical acclaim and a Grammy are possible. But there is no way it will be a highly successful album. Ever since the Lady Gaga explosion, only artists similar can reach the top these days. The only way it would be possible is if she became associated with a top artist, similar to Sheryl Crow and TISL. I don't think Stevie is after fame anymore, I think she is doing this album for her own sake, and to continue her tattered legacy. Stevie hasn't been popular since the late 90s, I think it's too late now to do much of anything to regain that fame.

And now that she's more of an underdog is why I'm guessing David will be right about at least the critical acclaim/grammy nod. And you're right, Ant... she knows her big selling days are over. So perhaps she'll do everything with the highest artistic aims possible vs wanting to be commercially friendly. I'm not really buying that after hearing "Everybody Loves You," but one can still hope ;). If Stevie had any hopes for a decent seller, WB would need to be marketing the sh!t outta her right now, hard core prior and after her release date. Obviously that's not happening, tho. Long live the WB!

But they have a completed, mixed album in their hands. They could be advertising Stevie at least has something in the pipeline. Or do a press release announcing a title/release date. Why on earth are they just silently sitting on a completed album that's supposed to be dropped in 3 months?

But thats what im saying, advertizing WHERE? in what exactally, tv commercials? adds in Rolling stone? AARP? what? What are people expecting? I do agree that her useless official web page should have more news, but i gave up on THAT YEEEEARS ago. Davee Stewart keeps saying "wait till 2011", if after the first few weeks of 2011 has past and we have STILL heard nothing, then i will join you in rolling my eyes. But i do wonder, what kind of promotion would be good for her? what are people expecting? "myspace exclusives" it would attract attention yes, but really?

Well we now realise that the projected March 1 release date will not be forthcoming and this is understandable given that recording (with Lindsey) was still occurring as recently as this month. The constant interruptions to this project (due to Dave being overcommitted around the world) have ultimately created delays and made it impossible to meet the targeted timeframe. I'm guessing early May is the likely date now, but I would imagine Dave will push for earlier since he wants to get his own album out and for it to be in conjuction with Stevie's record.

Look, I wanted a release from Stevie this year, whether it was the album or even just a single, but I can be patient and actually prefer that she take the time to get things right. I don't mean tinkering away to the point of perfection, but just that she be totally satisfied with the work. I'm really enthused by a comment from someone who's heard the album, referring to it as not being over-produced, but detailed - that bodes well in my opinion. I'm also digging the idea of it sounding atmospheric, which has been the comment from various people involved in the album.

Louie, I'm sure you'll disagree with me, but I don't think it necessary to be promoting the album months before it's even due, particularly since there is no firm release date at this stage - it could even be in the latter part of 2011, although I sincerely hope that's not the case. Remember, Trouble In Shangri-La was completed as of September 30, 2000 but wasn't released until May 1, 2001 - a period of seven months was deemed necessary in order to bring the album to fruition (artwork; video; marketing etc.). I realise that the marketing campaign back then began in early 2001, but that was when albums were scheduled to have a long shelf life and build momentum after release with successive singles - that doesn't happen anymore in this digital age. Nowadays, an album has one to two weeks to make an impression upon the charts and that's basically it - sad, but true. It's probably more likely that promotion and advertising for Stevie's upcoming album will occur one to two months prior to it's release and we just need to accept that. I for one don't need to be kept informed of every minute detail leading up to the release - I simply trust it will occur as it needs to and also acknowledge that Stevie herself will most likely play a minor role in this matter.

So what I'm hearing is everyone really wants Stevie's new album to be a hit (and thinks it will), but it's okay that Warners hasn't even let it be known there is an album coming out in 3 months? What gives, guys... those two things seem diametrically opposed. Does everyone think my concern about the lack of info from Warner is an assault on Stevie or something? Because I assure you, it's not. I want Stevie's album to get a fair chance on the record charts as much as anybody else. :wavey:

At the very least, Warner Bros should have a release date posted if this thing is supposed to drop in March. Or update the Stevie section of their website. Neither would take much time or money.

But perhaps you're right, Phil... maybe I'm just basing my assumptions and critiques on the way the record biz USED to work. I just remember how much rumbling we had prior to TISL for several months. I supposed that's a long outmoded model now. But I just keep thinking about all the hype I heard across all forms of media prior to Heart's album that came out earlier this year. So maybe I'm not so off-base after all...

Honestly, I want the album to do well of course but in reality I could care less about the marketing, Grammy nominations, a Stevie Nicks "revival", etc. All I really care about at the end is the music. Ultimately, that's what it's all about. Hype or no hype, good or bad album sales, the question is am I going to like this new music?? I know it's fun to discuss but I honestly have a valid concern that I'm not going to be a huge fan of the music based upon what I've heard which isn't much mind you. I just have an icky feeling, can't explain it and I'm not being negative, it's just my gut feeling.

That being said, I'm sure there will be something I love but overall it's going to be too Dave-Stewart influenced just like TOSOTM was with Rupert Hine and that can really ruin an album if you're not that crazy about the person's overall style and I'm not with Dave Stewart's. Eurythmics, yes. His newer and solo stuff, heck no . Not saying he isn't talented but it's his style of late I'm not digging.
Then again I never liked Sheryl Crow but loved TISL so maybe I'm trippin'!!

You just expressed how I feel about this album even better than I could :xoxo:

I can take one or two Dave duets on the album, that's understandable. What I hope is that it doesn't become basically a Dave Stewart featuring Stevie Nicks album.

Well the album may be done but they are still working on the video side of it. And I disagree that this album has been full of constant interruptions and has taken a long time. They pretty much did it quickly. Remember, they had to write the songs. They didn't chose songs.

It's obvious she wants people to hear this music. If it doesn't come out in March, it's not her fault. She's proud of this thing and I think Dave is too. He is obviously a nice and will do her right.

I'm not concerned about Stevie's upcoming album having "hit potential", rather I'm just hopeful it contains brilliance. I'd certainly like it to do well for her sake and also to encourage future output, but I don't think it stands much of a chance given the myriad reasons previously discussed during this thread.

Louie, I certainly understand your concerns, but I'm just thinking it's a little too soon at this stage for any major press involvement, particularly since I suspect the advertising campaign is currently being formulated. If that's the case, we can't expect to hear/see anything for another month or two. I do, however, think that whilst Dave's around, he will ensure we get something here and there, but ultimately it comes down to whether Stevie sanctions these morsels or not.

I have had high hopes for this Stevie/Dave collaboration from the outset and am not assuming anything - positive or negative - based on the snippet of "Everybody Loves You" that we had heard. I have faith in Dave's skills as an arranger, producer, co-writer and mentor, but I have always thought this project will stand or fall due to Stevie's songwriting (particularly lyric-wise) and vocal ability.

I was worried about Dave's continual absences and the interruptions to proceedings, but then I thought it might be an opportunity for Stevie to obtain perspective during the process and refine her lyrics as needed, particularly since the co-writes with Dave were composed so quickly. I might be the only one feeling this way, but I am majorly concerned about Stevie presenting her poetry in all it's glory, unedited and "telling a story" ("The Solider's Angel" anyone?). I hope and I pray that she has been tinkering with her lyrics throughout the ten months or so that the project has been evolving. Trotters crossed.

I'm in the minority when I say I believe Stevie can still cut it vocally, but it all comes down to whether or not she can be bothered reaching for the notes and allowing an intensity to permeate her delivery. Too often she holds back because she's always considering whether she will be able to replicate the vocal onstage - an attitude that is particularly strange given that she rarely performs many songs from a new collection upon it's release. Don't misunderstand me, I don't want her straining for notes like she did on much of the "Say You Will" album - I'm more than satisfied with her lower register, but I want to know she's actually feeling it this time around. If she cares to entertain a falsetto vocal here and there (as we know she can within the security of a studio), that would be more than welcomed, but I don't want lazy vocals or the dreaded autotune. Dave is renowned for eliciting a great vocal from the artists he works with and tends to favour a nice reverby approach, which definitely suits our girl. Here's hoping. Have I cheered you up Louie? ;)

PS This is total speculation, but I keep wondering if Lindsey's contribution may have been to "Annabel Lee"? I know people think it must be a remake of something from the "Buckingham Nicks" album, most probably "Frozen Love", but I was thinking about this the other day and it occurred to me that Lindsey would have been privy to Stevie's compostion from all those years ago. Given that she wrote her part when she was 17yo, she would have most likely made him aware of it's existence so I can imagine her wanting him to be a part of this particular recording. I can definitely hear his vocal harmony and playing on this track. I wonder...

I was JUST thinking about this today, Louie, and you are right!
I was following blogs and tweets for months before the release of Red Velvet Car, however, I think many of those outlets were fan created and maintained, and the updates were on play, repeat mode, until the next official update.

It was exciting, however, to receive any info from the blogs and tweets during the process.

Maybe some of us fans should create Twitter accounts and blogs promoting the album.....I can even remember receiving a tweet when the title of Heart's album was decided upon, so, the fan based promotion was going strong in the infancy of the album.

Just a thought...

Jondalar, I don't think this album has taken that long in the scheme of things - I was simply pointing out that there have been delays througout the process and that if Dave had been available for a consecutive stretch of time, it may have been released much earlier, possibly even this year. I'm guessing that the total time Stevie and Dave have actually spent together during this project would be closer to 2 or 3 months, but it has been stretched out to the better part of a year due to Dave's absences and also Stevie's brief set of concert dates.

I also acknowledge that the visual side of things will play a part in the promotional campaign and the documentary that Dave has filmed will take time to properly produce and edit. It will all hopefully be worth the wait.

I have a quick question to anyone out there who has a SUPER memory. What month (or more specifically, month and day) did Warners say that TISL was going to be released on May 1st, 2001? Did they announce this back in 2000 or was it after the beginning of 2001?

^^ I don't know your answer on TISL... but for comparison on announcements of release vs actual release dates... Reprise announced the March 27, 2007 release date for Stevie's "Best of" thru a press release on Feb 3, 2007.

On the Live in Chicago DVD and the CD - the official announcement by Reprise again through press release, came at the beginning of March, 2009 saying the release date was March 31, 2009 - so a shorter window.

It's too expensive to start mounting a promotional campaign now, months away from release.. All that cash spent needs to be recouped from cd sales... Plus we don't even really know specifically when it's going to be released.. March was the earliest date talked about, but it could fall anywhere between March and May - who knows... There was a good amount of press in the fall setting up the release, everyone mentioned it.... Plus Stevie made her audiences aware at each show.. so the seeds been planted, and she made those aware that matter the most.... It'll come together.

They announced it in late 2000... because I remember it being I think 8 months from the official announce until the release date.

Up until the official press releases began surfacing in the 2nd week of February 2001 we had no confirmed actual release date. Only confirmation from Stevie that the record was done around the Arizona Heart Benefit Sept. 2000 and the title of course.

RS was the 1st to report the release date with a small article on Feb.10, 2001, followed by small mentions on Yahoo Music & other various music websites and then on Feb. 17th Billboard Magazine showcased a very detailed article about TISL's marketing and release titled Reprise's Stevie Nicks Returns With Crow In Tow .

The 1st single "Everyday" began streaming on a Reprise/Warner site in March, with POTU following about 2 weeks thereafter. It was also nice that we had "Touched By An Angel" to tie us over as it was released on the Sweet November soundtrack Feb. 6th 2001.

Another thing also, Dave said on his Twitter today that he and Stevie are currently in the process of filming the "Cheaper Than Free" music video, which appears on both of their albums, so I suspect an official announcement of the release dates of both of their albums is not too far off.

And remember, regarding the buzz around Stevie's album, Dave said come 2011, "BOOM", meaning, we will have much more info given to us in the next few weeks.

The record release party/dinner for TISL was in late January '01. I had everything (CD, artwork, etc.) in my hands before February 1. I'm not saying this as much to retroactively brag or whatever, but to try to rationalize the marketing plan.

My guess is coordinating the promotion for the obligatory summer shed tour, which we all know is coming in '11. Why release the thing on March 1 when you could release it late April/early May and roll the momentum into some healthy concert sales?

He said it's a bombshell in music collaboration and a bombshell to the music industry as it stands. The world already knows about his collaboration with Stevie, it's even been published in Rolling Stone. It makes me think he might have just signed on to produce the Mac the way he's talking. Especially considering he's now worked with Stevie, Lindsey, and Mick on Stevie's new album. Horrible for the kids. I will say, though, that if a marriage must end, I prefer to see a man trade in a "new model" for someone his own age. It so rarely happens in that direction!

Stevie's greatest consistency is doubtless in hook ups with her producers.

I think he is simply referring to his 2011 plans, but not anything Fleetwood Mac. He is releasing his solo album in which is has several collaborations which he has said are amazing, and Stevie's album on which he collaborated and produced and which none of us have heard, plus whatever whacky plans he has up his sleeve, but I'm not holding my breath for some announcement about Fleetwood Mac. I don't see how him producing an FM record would be a "bombshell" by any means. It sure isn't the first time FM has discussed making a new album and Dave producing it isn't that strange. Now you tell me Kanye West is producing the new FM album, and then perhaps we would have a different story. Perhaps a new Eurythmics album would be considered a bombshell, or perhaps if he got Christine to rejoin FM, but I don't believe either to be true. So alas, I think he believes these two albums will be bombshells when they are released, not some announcement he is going to make.

I don't know whether this is the appropriate thread for these or not, but I thought some of you may be interested in the sound of these recent Dave Stewart downloads. They are fairly loose and perhaps not quite finished, but the instrumentation and production may bear some resemblance to Stevie's upcoming album...maybe? Just follow this link:

http://ethrill.net/2010/12/31/dave-stewart-celebrates-the-new-year-with-a-new-free-saturday-song-and-video/

I'd recommend these tracks:

I Know Your Name – primarily an instrumental, but has a pleasant atmospheric arrangement
Love Will Reign - nice groove
Peace One Day (with Jimmy Cliff)
I Want You For Xmas - cool guitar
Xmas Is For Lovers - sweet orchestration

Don't focus on the rubbish lyrics or Dave's vocals, just lap up the sounds! I do suspect, however, that Stevie's album will feature a lot more upbeat rockers than this lot.

It's just more of his being annoyingly enigmatic and overreaching regarding his and Stevie's new projects .

But without him being "annoyingly enigmatic and overreaching" there would be nothing to speculate about... So it's a catch 22. I say be as annoyingly enigmatic as you like... It just adds to the fun and the lead up to whatever is to come.

I think he is simply referring to his 2011 plans, but not anything Fleetwood Mac.

from http://ethrill.net/2011/01/01/with-dave-stewart-stevie-nicks-billy-corgan-into-the-new-year-kristin-burns/:
"With Dave Stewart, Stevie Nicks & Billy Corgan into the new year – Kristin Burns
The amazing rock, fashion and lifestyle photographer Kristin Burns, well known to us already for photos of Smashing Pumpkins, Nightmare & The Cat (the band of Dave Stewart’s sons Django and Samuel Stewart) and the great live photos of Dave Stewart’s concert in Nashville earlier this month, has published a very special photo today, showing Stevie Nicks (ladies first), Dave Stewart and Billy Corgan (head of the Smashing Pumpkins) together having fun at a private New Year’s party last night.
Fleetwood Mac meets Eurythmics meets Smashing Pumpkins?! – Sounds like a supergroup already."

would that be bombastic news Dave was referring to? frankly i'm not that sure since at this point they are all legendary bands from the past, but who knows...

Well, the reason I still think Stevie and Dave make a cuter couple (marriage being what it is...) because they are age and musically compatible. I could picture them up in their log cabin retreat with Dave strumming an acoustic guitar on the porch while Stevie sings through the kitchen window. Stevie is a lovely gal, no matter what her age, and chemistry is chemistry. I think they are compatible on many different levels.

Yes, Dave's wife is lovely, but she definitely strikes me as being a bit of a trophy. In other words, if Dave Stewart wasn't half of the Eurythmics, would he have been able to hit that?

Dave and Stevie may be "compatible", but their compatibility as far as we know, is strictly professional.

You are advocating once again for no speculation or opinion to be shared, but instead for this board to solely include dissemination of proven fact. Am I the only one who isn't fooled into thinking we should all be so gratful to Dave Stewart. It really is one of the biggest illusions I've ever seen. Every f**king twitter update we get from him gives us NOTHING, but incredibly vague info. Every piece of useful information has come elsewhere. Stevie herself has shed the most light by her few interviews at the time of her mini tour. She gave us ACTUAL info on song titles, possible release date number of songs etc. MICK just informed us that Fleetwood Mac isnt touring in 2011. David Wild tells us there's blood on the tracks and again uses song titles.

These people rarely open their mouths but when they do it matters. Dave Stewart is on Twitter many times a day, and instead of actual bones, he has cryptic messages and taunts us with ****. Really we have like 30 tweets worth of updates from him with no useful information, again given by him. And the best thing he did that I am actaully greatful for is he provided an audio sample, BUT at the same time the sample sucked. Now it has actually been growing on me, but could he not have came up with some other 40 second clip that was more WOW inducing. Could there be a more plain clip. So the best thing he did actually has worried a majority of us as opposed to excited us.

I admit to almost fallen for this elaborte illusion that Dave Stewart has done so much for us Stevie fans, but think about it. He's given us so much "NOTHING" while Stevie has given so little but made it count.

I agree and disagree on some parts. Dave has given us the audio clip of everybody loves you and an audio update from him and Stevie. He was also the first to say anything about them working together and that they were making an album. He also is the first to mention the documentary and has shared several new photos with us. I think Dave has given us several substantial bits of info, but compared to the number of useless things he has said, he does give us more fluff than anything. As to the audio clip of Everybody Loves You. This was posted March 5, and seeing as they only started working together in late February, it isn't shocking to me that they didn't have another 40 second clip. I think ELY was the first song they really did and he liked it and wanted to give the fans something, so he did. Then as time progressed, they had more songs that really took off, but Stevie was probably terribly possessive of them and now Warner Bros. probably does not allow Dave to leak such clips. Also, it is a Stevie Nicks solo album, whatever information about the album that comes out should be from her and her label, not necessarily her producer. Dave does have some right to provide such info, but I think he is afraid to give away too much for fear it may piss Stevie off or may violate some terms of a contract.

Yes, I'm grateful that DS has brought Stevie out of the depths of hell and back into the artiste we all know she is but am I glad it's him? Not necessarily because I have a feeling (as I've mentioned many times before) I'm not going to like what he's done with her! His whole production and sound, it's not to my liking thus far. You have keep in mind that The Blackbird Diaries is directly inspired by the whole Nashville musician tribe. Stevie's record will have a different production esthetic. As Dave's album was recorded with a bunch of musicians that Martina Mcbride's husband who co-owns the Blackbird studio, put together for a week of recording. The musicians on Stevie's record that are confirmed are Waddy, Mike C, Steve Ferrone, Mick Fleetwood, Ricky Peterson, Lindsey B. along with Dave S. and probably violinist Anne Marie Calhoun. Stevie also enlisted Chris Lord-Alge to preside over the final mixing, not so subtly pushing aside Dave who mixed his own cd. Stevie is very much calling some shots and injecting her choice of musicians and trusted colleagues where she see's fit.

David Wild has written the songs are atmospheric. So If Dave understands Stevie as much as I think he does, he will set an ambience and mood that will enhance the Stevieness of the recordings. I'm quite intrigued with the possible outcomes that this collaboration represents as Dave Stewart is a very versatile and apt producer. I loved the work he did on the last great Sinead O' Connor record "Faith and Courage" or some of the songs on the last Eurythmics record such as "Beautiful Child" or I Saved The World Today". If some of these elements are on tap this will be a very magical record provided that Stevie also stepped up her game on the lyrical and singing aspects.

In a recent interview for Music & Musicians Magazine (http://davestewart.com/files/2010/11/Music-Musicians_Nov2010_002.jpg), Dave pointed out that as a producer, he liked to be influenced by the artist and not force his style on them:

"I'm often working with lots of different people at once - it could be Stevie or a soul singer or a young indie person - and I morph into their world. A lot of producers have a stamp. 'This is my world, you've come into it and you're going to sound like me with you on top." I'm the other way 'round. I'm like "I'm gonna sound like you but you might hear a bit of this."...So, you'll maybe hear 10 percent of me on another artist's album."

Christopher, Icouldn't agree more with everything you've said, particularly regarding Dave being a sympathetic producer. He wants this album to be "a Stevie record" and has stated as much during the last 12 months. Funnily enough, I have been thinking very much of his work on Sinead's "Faith & Courage" and also the production on "I've Saved The World Today" as potential reference points for some of Stevie's album. Imagine if he could elicit a vocal response out of Stevie like Annie's on "I've Tried Everything"? I don't necessarily mean a falsetto, but just the intensity alone would be fantastic. I've said this before and I'll say it again, whether this project succeeds or not rests squarely on Stevie's shoulders. Let's hope she puts her best hoof forward.

No, it's not. The Blackbird Diaries does have more of a country feel, but that's what Dave was going for on that project. All I can say is - until he started working with Stevie I never would have thought I would have been a Dave Stewart fan. But, I like his work.

Wonder what the photo shoot was for awhile back, on Santa Monica beach wasnt it?

Didnt we think that was for the CD cover? Maybe these are for the inside art work....or maybe them photos on the beach didn't come out good....or...

None the less, Goooooooo Stevie!!

Easy, the photo shoot could have been for promo material, for the CD booklet, etc. I thought it was silly people were speculating that photo shoot was the album cover months ago when the project wasn't even finished, and the album had no name. You've gotta know what you're promoting to before you can come up with a theme to market it.

Would that apply to her original greatest hits collection Timespace and
Street Angel? If so care to explain?

Stevie's logic is not ours.

Logically, it would seem this new CD might be a bigger project than most of her past solo efforts. Dave seems to be taking charge of the creative and pushing her into some new directions.

On another note, The Dallas Morning News had their annual "What's In/What's Out list this weekend, and making a resurgence they say, is the 1970s! So Stevie-mania might actually be right in step with the times.

Album cover, eeeeeh! :D Exciting stuff!

Has anyone heard Bryan Ferry's new album? Dave Stewart cowrote on it; I've been listening to it over the last few days and I love everything about it. Thoughts?

Stewart isn't on Ferry's new album Olympia..it was Ferry's 2002 album Frantic that Stewart cowrote on which is also very good..I particularly like one they cowrote on there "Goddess of Love" about Marilyn Monroe.

I'm especially curious by what you mean regarding the part I bolded. Can you elaborate your thought train?

On your related note... the '70s being back in surprises me. I thought they'd gone back out several years ago? I'm noticing in very hipster-infested Austin that all the cool kids are actually wearing lots of early 90s clothing these days instead. Especially early 90s sunglasses seem to be hugely in vogue... you know, those damned things with the neon colored sides and such?

http://s10.thisnext.com/media/400x400/Cool-Neon-Sunglasses_0BA3EF79-Retro-yellow.jpg

I've even noticed hipsters beginning to sport the early/mid 90s grunge button down plaid shirts now, too. Ugh... that whole 90s button down plaid shirt thing is a fad I really hoped would never, ever come back. :distress:

The fashion here in the UK at the moment seems to be edging toward 20s style tailoring with 70s style jeans and blouses. Not sure how I feel about all this but there are a lot of Stevie-esque sleeves (literally) floating around at the moment, which is nice..

I respect his musical abilities - not sure about his skills as a photographer. I really feel that Stevie should have placed the task of creating her first cover in 10 years in more capable hands, as in a photographer who only does photography. There are a lot of very talented photographers out there. I'm not sure Dave Stewart aka Jack of All Trades, is one of them. Sorry if this sounds harsh. I may be eating my words.

Stewart collaborated with Ferry during the Alphaville sessions, which yielded tracks on Frantic AND Olympia. "You Can Dance," "Alphaville," and "Tender Is the Night" are all Stewart collabs that appear on Olympia. However, it should be noted that for BOTH albums, Ferry worked with different producers and re-recorded the songs--Ferry referred to the process of dealing with the Alphaville tracks as similar to how he does covers of other artsists' songs, so radical were the changes--(though I think there are some Dave instrumental presence on some of the tracks, but don't have the cd booklet with me @ the moment). I contend Dave must help people get their juices flowing, but I still feel/fear he's not the man to bring them to fruition.

I know many, many people disagree with me (as if that's anything new), but I don't consider photography to be this rare artistic talent. Yes, there are good photographers and bad photographers. And yes, one can become technically skilled at it. Yes, photography can be aesthetically pleasing, even beautiful at times. But is it art? Not any more or less than any decor object like a piece of furniture or a pillow. If any idiot with a decent point-and-shoot digital camera can take really good pictures, it pretty much confirms that good photography is more about the quality of the hardware than the people using it. Really the only difference between the pro and the amateur is that the pro has learned a thing or two about lighting, the technical operation of a camera, the manual settings and some basic composition. Being as photographed as much as he has been photographed as half of the Eurythmics, I think it stands to reason that he has acquired the technical skills of the pros along the way. I think the only thing that approaches "art" is the post-production, art direction and packaging. The photography is the easy part.

I disagree. A photographer must be both an artist and a technician. Camera, stock, lens, aperture, subject, "art direction," composition, lighting, depth, development, "post-production" are all selections that lead to the communication of an idea, feeling, experience, insight, truth, beauty that not just anyone can achieve.

What you are talking about is the amateur achievement of communicating a fact--Stevie Nicks was here--and some sense of that fact being communicated in a way that's basically appealing (in focus, recognizable, not framed funny or up her nostril/s). So you are right. Art is not required of an album cover. It might be asking too much for it to be art.

Has me wondering could they be shooting a video for this song as part of the filming that he said would be taking place all week...or perhap's the theme of the photo shoot is inspired by Annabel Lee, or heck it's probably just playing in the background as they shoot some footage. It's anyones guess! Let the speculation continue to drive us crazy.

Horse****.

I kid, I kid. :xoxo:

But you have to admit that all of those "skills" are technical in nature. As for those other fuzzy terms like "insight" and "truth," I think you read way too much into photographs. With enough hardware, shots and luck, a monkey pressing a button will eventually get "the shot" that will convey all kinds of experience, insight and truth. Again, I don't deny there is a skill involved. I just would not place photography on the same level as a real artist like a painter or sculptor or even an architect- people who create things out of nothing with their own hands and imaginations.

I don't quite see how he could acquire any skills of a photographer while simply being photographed, unless he was paying really close attention...which is entirely possible, I suppose. Dave does seem like an inquisitive sort. I also think that the result of a good photo depends, at least in part, on the relationship between the subject (Stevie) and the photographer (Dave). We already know that Stevie feels very comfortable with Dave and their musical partnership (fingers crossed) has been a successful one. So let's hope she feels equally comfortable and energized behind his camera lens.

Anecdotally, a good number of models now fancy themselves as "photographers," Tyra Banks being the most egregious example of this. The fact that she can do it, and do it pretty well at that, kind of confirms in my mind once and for all that photography is something that anyone can pick up.

It's true. We have people here who, after doing it so many times and with trial and error, take better concert pictures than the newspaper photographers do.

Now, photographing for an album cover requires a different kind of skill. But I find that a lot of people in show business, be it music, acting, writing, etc. are also artists. Our John did a pretty nice album cover himself. So, I don't doubt that Dave could do it.

Too, Dave was airbrushing a photo in the link he shared with his other work. I would think that would take a least a little bit more skill than someone with a point and shoot.

YES...and it's for this reason, that I think "annabel lee" might not be a bad idea for the album title. It's unique, it's "Stevie" without being *too* "Stevie" ("In Your Dreams"...no thank you), and conjures up such imagery and character when you take the song lyrics into account.

I don't think Annabel Lee works as a title--too confusing. There would be concern people would assume Annabel Lee was the artist. Maybe she would use a lyric from it, though: "Kingdom by the Sea"?

Bella Donna...Annabel Lee - I can see it...

By the way Waylon Jennings recorded a song called Beautiful Annabel Lee on an album in 1966. It was written by the lengendary songwriter, Harlan Howard.

Maybe it's nothing, but Dave referred to the 'Stevie Movie' as 'Tales of Mystery and Imagination'. Wouldn't that be an amazing album title? Annabel Lee would make sense with the Poe inspired title, and it would add to the whole gothic thing we've got going with 'The Ghosts are Gone' and the Twilight song.

Stevie Nicks - Tales of Mystery and Imagination. Oh yeah. I can dig it.

An ooooold friend of mine from college had those words on his CD that he recorded. I bought a copy, to show my support. It arrived at my work. I never allowed it into my home. And I eventually threw it away.

I'm not up on my Chris Nicks gossip like I should be... what exactly is his involvement in the Nicks camp? I thought he was more involved in tour management? I've always heard he's a thoroughly second rate individual, and milks his connection with his sister for all it's worth. I've heard about him bedding Stevie fans with the promise of him introducing them to Stevie, but then reneging; of him skimming profits; anything else I'm not aware of? I've never felt like I had the full picture on Chris, and why he's so reviled by Stevie fans.

I especially remember the Millenium show I went to on 12-31-99 and how he totally f**ked up on ordering enough of the special commermative pink shirts they sold that night.

In Storms, CAH comments twice how alike Chris and Stevie look. I've always seen that as a little dig. Knowing chiffonheads were the only ones who would by the book, she had to talk endlessly about Stevie "sexual power," but her little revenge is harping on Stevie's likeness to her shifty little brother.

I don't know about David Wild. Perhaps he thinks it is her "best solo album", but I sometimes wonder if he has ever fully listened to any of her solo albums. He is a music critic, so I would believe he wouldn't say anything unless he really believed it since his reputation is somewhat on the line, but as far as being an expert on Stevie's music? I take his opinions with a bit of caution.
