This will be interesting, cause it usually sets the tone for the album. Someone earlier mentioned "Twilight" and I like it, even if it's a cheap grab on the popular novel/movie series.

...and I would be absolutely mortified for her if by some strange chance she ended up with that title. Call it between Between Day and Dusk, if you have to, just dear god, don't look like you're trying to grab on to what- all-those-youn-kids-are-talking-about.

if I recall SYW had some AOL sessions videos of Say You Will and Peacekeeper. I think both were released as live versions on the expanded special ultimate super-dooper edition of SYW.
Also the internet was pretty much in its multimedia "infancy" back in 2003. Streaming video and audio was pretty craptastic and broadband was not common in the average household yet. Just about the ONLY thing done to promote TISL was it was avialable for streaming from VH1 if you preordered it.
Not to mention Destiny Rules and the precursor, All Access on Vh-1. The tidbits of drama were marketing genius!

Yep Luke and Christopher, I agree. I always thought that "Thrown Down" should have been the lead single for SYW and that a well produced promo video (Russell Mulchay anyone??) could have worked wonders. The live "promo" clips were atrocious - dimly lit and cheap looking with medicore vocal performances from both Stevie and Lindsey. Of course, they were never going to work. I don't believe the money would have been wasted because I honestly think that a great, personalised clip (perhaps focussing on the Stevie/Lindsey dynamics) would have been on high rotation and in turn, could have resonated with the public in the way that "The Dance" did at the time. We all know that "live" performance was one extended promo clip in a sense.
I also think "Peacekeeper" (with it's original tempo) could have actually been a strong single, providing it also had a video. I always thought the album should have been named after this song as well - "Say You Will" is such an innocuous title - dull and means absolutely nothing.
I just knew Dave would coax Stevie into some form of video medium for promotional purposes and a documentary, particularly given his closeness to her and obvious access to proceedings, will be enlightening for both fans and the uninitiated. There's bound to be some actual videos as well and with Dave involved, they should be surreal to say the least. This is fantastic news.
PS I wonder when that photo of Stevie listening to the rough mixes was taken? I'm curious to know if the vocals have already been laid down in Dave's presence or if they will be perhaps surpervised by Glenn Ballard? I remember Glenn commenting that when he produced Annie Lennox's last album, he wasn't sure about her vocal performances at the time they were recorded, but later realised she knew what she was doing and was glad he didn't intefere.
Even as a major Annie fan, I think she did misjudge some of her vocals and so I hope he (and/or Dave) don't make similar mistakes with Stevie. I believe she needs someone to encourage a bit of risk taking when it comes to vocal delivery in the studio and erase that belief of hers that the studio recording needs to be easily replicated in a live context. Let's face it, she rarely ever performs new songs anyway so it's hardly relevant, but also, as we know with the likes of "Sorcerer" and the missing falsetto from live performances, she doesn't have to repeat them verbatim. We know courtesy of "Sorcerer", "It's Only Love" and "Dreams" (with Deep Dish) that Stevie is still capable of nuanced, falsetto vocals in the studio so here's hoping for a little stretching and variety this time around.

Someone on the 7 Wonders board suggested this, and I think it was suggested here too, but "Majik" may be the name of the album. And with tweets like "Now driving over to Stevie Nick's place to make more majik", and "in studio right now with Stevie Nicks, Waddy Wachtel, Mike Rowe, Mike Bradford Steve Ferrone creating MAJIK !!!! last day in this studio", it's actually very possible that Dave's been dropping the album title all along!

Also what kind of time frame are we expecting for the release?.. This is where they are at-
After a hard day's night in the studio , Stevie Nick's still focused and listening intently to the rough mixes to take home , music all finished next step harmonies and some killer lead vocals..
And we had some burst of June release date a while back so anyone who "thinks" they know please be certain or at least realistic with your info

LOVE me some Annabel Lee. If you can look beyond the simplistic guitar/bass & drum-machine demo arrangement, Stevie actually pulls off arranging this classic Poe poem stanza's to a pleasing sing along melody. With the right producer & vocal performance I envision this could be a nifty song to add to her repertoire. Stevie probably didn't want to jump through the hoops and pay the copyright fee's if approved, otherwise I think she would definitely have recorded this great little ditty. Who better than Stevie could convey the mournful yearning of the beloved Annabel Lee in her kingdom by the sea?
forget Sara, Juliet, Rhiannon ... Stevie is totally Annabel Lee!!!
the moon. the sea.
it's funny, coz ever since i heard the demo, every time i read poetry i imagine how Stevie would put music to it

He's worked with MJ on Thriller and Bad.. Van Halen.. Jagged Little Pill, Dave Mathews, Anastasia.. He's Dave's partner I think someone posted earlier
One of the defining pop producers, and a five-time Grammy® winner, Glen Ballard has penned hits and produced bestselling albums for Paula Abdul (Forever Your Girl), Wilson Phillips (Wilson Phillips), Alanis Morissette (Jagged Little Pill) and No Doubt (Return of Saturn), as well as written, arranged and produced with Aerosmith, Michael Jackson, Chaka Khan, The Corrs, Barbra Streisand, Aretha Franklin, and The Dave Matthews Band among many others.
Interviews interesting.. Sounds like a good thing for Stevie

Back in 1995-1996, when I was the ONLY Stevie Fan on AOL who actually enjoyed Street Angel, Glen Ballard was HAILED as the ONLY producer who could "SAVE" Stevie's destroyed career. Alanis was white-hot then, with about 7 of the songs from her first album as HUGE HIT SINGLES.
I always though "That Made Me Stronger" had a 1995 Alanis/Ballard beat rhythm to it...

Now the random dates in august are starting to make sense- they are probably going to film the shows or at least some footage from backstage and rehearsals for the movie. Perhaps it will be like the Joan Rivers movie, which has been praised by the critics. Hopefully it will peel back a few more layers than "Destiny Rules," which did seem to have everyone in a guarded state.
As a Stevie and FM fan for 30 years, this project definitely ranks up there in terms of anticipation. I can only compare this to my anticipation for WH. The world may be going to hell in a handbasket, but a new Stevie album certainly gives us all something to look forward to!

Maybe it won't be such an f around of an album to get out with Dave Stewart.. He's become increasingly revealing about it.. He done was it 6 or 7 (new?) songs with her.. The rest- A bit like SYW a la Running Through The Garden, Smile At You etc and re do un released material?
In no way am I predicting or giving what I believe will happen.. But I hope they get this out soon.. Otherwise it'll begin to get ugly for Dave Stewart lol..

Barring any unavoidable delays (like health issues), and assuming the project doesn't get mysteriously shelved (like 'Mirror, Mirror') or they decide to re-produce tracks (like 'Street Angel'), I don't see why they would want to wait another year for the release. Stevie isn't getting any younger. Unless she wants to mark the TEN YEAR anniversary of TISL with a new solo album. In which case, she might be close to matching Kate Bush's record (12 years!) duration between solo albums of new recorded material.

It took longer than this MAJIK projection just to release the Soundstage Sessions, which could have been available about five minutes after filming. So, I'd say May-Jun is a conservative estimate of how long this could go on. Also, even after an album is "done," record companies try to fit everything into some algorithm they have for maximal public interest (e.g., the soundstage album probably dropped so late to coincide with Unleashed interest and promotion--speaking of, they really should have released an Unleashed dvd/cd). Another thing is that nowadays, albums don't get released until a single shows traction (e.g., The-Dream album was projected to be released last Dec in conjunction with the first single, but wasn't released until June-2010, three singles later). I had another point but forgot what it was, but yeah, at least a year for an album that's not even done yet.
(btw, I wonder if she's waiting until after the tour loosens up the vocal chords to lay down her lead vocals.)

Unless she wants to mark the TEN YEAR anniversary of TISL with a new solo album.
The ten year anniversary of Trouble in Shangri-La? How about the thirty year anniversary of Bella Donna? It would be very poetic and meaningful and blah, blah, blah to release what could possibly be her last solo album exactly thirty years from her first. And I could honestly see that as justification enough for Stevie to sit on the record until spring 2011.
Still, I don't want to wait that long. I want it now!

I've liked Dave Stewart through the years - obviously beginning with Tourists & Eurythmics... I had also always like Sinead O'Connor but when Dave produced her album 'Faith & Courage', I was quite blown away with it. I'm not sure everyone else was 'universally' blown away with it - but the production and songwriting (of which I believe they shared at times) was quite different (to my ears) than previous releases of hers. I know her star had all but gone out (to the general public) by this time - but looking at her objectively, Dave made 'Faith & Courage' more relaxed and a bit mainstream. Do I dare say, 'adult contemporary'??? Regardless, it wasn't the album that garnered her many new fans but the style and songwriting just sounded very different for her that time out. I thought it was one of her best overall records.
I know I'm babbling but with all these tidbits that we now know about Stevie 2010/2011 and her partnership with Dave - I am quite excited to see what becomes of it. I think the whole thing stands a good chance of presenting Stevie in a slightly different way than we might have seen before. Nothing radical - but I think his production will definitely be felt - by us here, anyway. If not a commercial success, I think it will be a critical success.
Possibly wishful thinking on my part, I know...

If not a commercial success, I think it will be a critical success.
I'd love it if it was a critical success, it's always nice to read good reviews about Stevie xD
I still reckon it could be a commercial success though, it could peak in the top ten or top five through name recognition alone. Although, I think it'll peak high just cause it's a Stevie Nicks album, and then fall pretty quickly. I'd like to be proven wrong though.

Producers: Dave Stewart, Glen Ballard
Also in 2007 she said she wanted to do Lady From The Mountain, so add that to alleged!

According to Dave's Twitter, he's just arrived in Nashville.

So I guess he's taking a break from her Stevie-ness.
Here's an oddity -- in the article I found (in the Chit Chat forum) about Ringo Starr's 70th birthday bash, it says Dave was one of the attendees. But that was Wednesday, and on Wednesday nite he twittered:
hmmm just felt an earthquake

To all Stevie fans you are in for a crazy ride !

I just posted these comments in another thread about whether Stevie will perform any of the upcoming album in the August shows, but I thought it might be worth mentioning here as well.
The latest album doesn't appear to be finished - depending on who you listen to, either half of it is done or else it's close to completion - so it seems probable that not even a tracklisting has been decided as yet. There is also the other question of whether Stevie has laid down her vocals or not - I'm wondering if that photo of her listening to the rough mixes was on the last night of recording or perhaps earlier during the sessions?
I'm also curious about David Wild's (Rolling Stone writer) comments about the songs being "deeply personal" and featuring "lots of ghosts (and) vampires" if the vocals haven't been laid down as yet. It's possible he's listened to the demos as well or perhaps read some lyric sheets, but he was commenting on the "work in progresss" so that would suggest that Stevie has perhaps recorded at least some of the vocals. Is anyone (Stewart or Wild) able to clarify the situation?

I know none of us have any idea and it would be total speculation and I also know it's been asking and answered a hundred and one times before but I'm bored so....realistically what old demo do you see possibly coming out of the vaults for this album, if any? I know what my dreams would be but that doesn't make them realistic. Is anything realistic?

I can honestly say I don't think I've listened to this demo before today (I'm not much of a demo fanboy). What's the story behind it? Kinda sounds like a Mirror, Mirror outtake to me. That 3 note progression in the background was lifted directly from Brown Eyes... I like this song already . With the right production, this song could be AWESOME.

Did you listen to the White Widow version or Stevie's demo? I've become obsessed with it since someone posted it here. Downloaded it on iTunes and have been checking out some of their other music. I'm so picky about Stevie covers - don't like most but this one is sensational. They really embrace the overall feeling of the song and make it hauntingly familiar yet still their own.

I listened to both.
Stevie's demo could definitely be epic if placed in the correct producer's and musicians hands. I think the wisdom her modern voice embodies would really be quite moving for this particular song.
The White Widow version is also really fantastic. I always love hearing other artists interpret Stevie/Mac songs. Their Lady From The Mountain is like a slow-burn version of the Stevie demo... I LOVE the way it slowly ramps up to a vocal crescendo. I see the band is partially based out of Austin... I'll definitely have to check out a show sometime! I'm digging the other music on their website!

Well, let me see if I can explain this. Kim Stolz with MTV did an interview with Stevie in 2007.
http://newsroom.mtv.com/2009/04/03/kim-stolz-fulfills-lifelong-dream-with-stevie-nicks-interview/
She ends it by saying she has more from the interview in coming days, however the rest of the interview never surfaced. Well I believe it was when Dave started mentioning Stevie on twitter, Kim @replied him and said something to the effect of the fact that she interviewed Stevie in 2007 and Stevie mentioned wanting to record a song called "Lady From the Mountain" and asked if they still planned to record it. I @replied Kim and asked where the rest of her interview was, but she never told me and Dave Stewart never told her if they were still doing LFTM. I wish I could find her actual tweet about it, but she now has her tweets private. Anyway, I have requested to follow her again and I tweeted her again about the rest of her interview, so if I ever learn anything else about it I shall let you guys know!

What about All The Beautiful Worlds? I'd be so happy if she polished that one off, it's such an excellent song!
Agreed, Lady From The Mountain and All The Beautiful Worlds would both be brilliant choices for the new album but I still tend to favour She Still Loves Him, particularly with Dave at the helm. I truly believe he could deliver a sensitive, sympathetic production on this song. Trotters crossed...

I think All The Beautiful Worlds would be a great companion to Lady From The Mountain. They both have such a sensual atmospheric quality to them. If this new album were to have that kind of vibe that these old demos embody, we'd be in for a treat indeed. Yes, these aren't rocking songs at all... but they're downright sexy and definitely mystical. I actually think Stevie's mature voice these days would sound even better on these songs than their original '80s recordings. And like I said before, with the proper producers, musicians, and studio atmosphere... they could be pulled off quite spectacularly. That being said, if they were to be anything short of amazing, I'd rather Stevie keep them in the vault.
All good points Louie - let's hope it happens. I'm assuming that the seven tracks already recorded are the six Stevie and Dave co-wrote plus possibly the New Orleans song (that Stevie wrote on her own). Stevie always likes a combination of new and old so it stands to reason that she may just flesh the remainder of the album out with some of these long forgotten demos. We could be in for a real treat.
I'm curious as to when the album sessions will resume and if Dave will be back on board or if Glenn Ballard will take over? Dave has stated that he is co-producing the album with Glenn but I wonder if that means them each doing half the album or if they have been working together already and plan to continue doing so?

Is it just me who hopes that there are as little "Stevie Nicks and Dave Stewart" writing credits as possible? Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking his writing, but I always think that the songs Stevie writes on her own are stronger than those she writes with collaborators (apart from Sandy Stewart)
I don't know. I'd just love to see Stevie credited as the sole author, rather than Nicks, Stewart on half the tracks.
That being said, if they were to be anything short of amazing, I'd rather Stevie keep them in the vault.
Agreed. All The Beautiful Worlds, in particular, is one of my most cherished Stevie demos, I'd be gutted if it came out awful.
Still, Stevie has shown she can make an old demo sound amazing with her modern voice, If You Ever Did Believe is a great example, in my opinion.

if we are going to talk about this, there are only 4 demos that are left that are worth anything. Three Birds of Rhiannon, Forest of Black, Is Anybody There, and Beautiful Worlds. Those deserve to make an album. Three Birds of Rhiannon in particular is a beautiful song.
Looks as though Dave is steamrollering along in the studio - it seems as though half of his album is already in the can. Knowing him, he'll probably have it finished in another week! He should be back with Stevie in next to no time.
http://ethrill.net/2010/07/12/dave-stewart-finished-already-6-songs-in-nashville-and-films-the-recording-sessions/
Jondalar, Three Birds Of Rhiannon and Forest Of The Black Roses (along with China Doll and Mistaken Love) are all great demos and deserving of release but I suspect Stevie won't issue any of these independent of the ever elusive "Rhiannon" album project.

I think you're right in the fact this will probably be her last big, proper studio album (that fits the definition we're accustomed to). However, I do see her shifting to a smaller scale as she continues to get older. Doing more boutique type projects, intended for a smaller audience, with with more limited appeal. I don't think some sort of Rhiannon project is out of the question at all. The scale of it just wouldn't be grandiose, and it would be more of an artsy side pastime than a big event. Stevie's definitely in a transition phase right now... she's downsizing her empire in every way from her home to the size venues she plays, etc. I think she will get to a point in the future (10-20 years down the line perhaps) where she feels she's too old to spend every year living out of hotel rooms. When that happens, we'll start to see her do these other little things she's always talked about it. The woman seems to be too hyper to go into Garbo style retirement.

I would die a very happy man if Stevie would record "Lady From The Mountain", "Watch Devil" and "Blue Water" on her new album or future releases. A PERFECT WORLD would include "Mistaken Love" and "If You Were My Love"...but I'd be happy with just the first three.
With Stevie, you just never know and for all these years, I've never thought the Rhiannon project would come to fruition, but we must remember that she did actually record an album (not the demos we've heard) featuring all the associated songs many years ago (ask MikeBise for the details - he's the expert - but I think it dates back to the late 1970's/early 1980's). We also know that Stevie and the girls have been working further on the project in recent years so that would suggest that certain songs are being retained for whatever it turns out to be.
I would love Stevie to release the recordings because they would feature her vocals in their prime but I realise this seems unlikely. Therefore, if she were to record any or all of these for the latest album or future projects, I would be more than pleased.
PS Considering that Dave is working at his usual break-neck pace in Nashville, he may well be available for the last few shows Stevie's doing in August. If that were the case, they might just attempt one or two new songs, maybe in an acoustic fashion.
Dave has already spoken of making a few acoustic appearances with Stevie to promote the album once it's released, but he might just get some practice in before then.

The real trick is...if she does record some of those old demos...can she make them BETTER than the demos themselves?
I love her demo of "Goodbye Baby" ("The Tower") but I think the finished version on SYW is lackluster compared. However, I did like "Smile At You" and "Running Thru The Garden". I thought they were stellar. Lindsey does an outstanding job (as usual) of interpreting her demos. If she is indeed going to finish some old songs for this new project, we can only pray that Dave and Glen do an outstanding job as well...just like Sheryl Crowe and John Shanks.
If Dave does do some appearances with Stevie later on next month, I bet he could cajole her into doing a new song or two...based on the fact that in his tweets, he seems really excited about them. Here's hoping!

Do you have anything in the works in terms of doing sessions or production work?
Yeah. I don’t do a lot of sessions, ‘cause I’m not real comfortable walking into a room with people that I don’t know. But I’ve done a few over the years. I have a couple of things. Mostly what I do in my off time is just write and record in my studio. Occasionally, I will step out. Like last week I had an opportunity to do something that was really fun. Dave Stewart called me up, and he’s working with Stevie Nicks. He’s doing a record with her. And over the years, I would give Stevie some music here and there. And Dave said, “She’s got a song of yours that she found and she wants to record.” And so we got together and changed a few things and made it better and went in and cut that. In the course of that, I had this other piece of music I gave her and she wrote a really great song to it. I’m really proud of it. So I did that last week. A couple of songs with them, and that was a lot of fun.

Somebody needs to call Tom Petty to help with an intervention here!
Ever since Dave mentioned that 7 songs had been recorded and that one of them was Stevie's own composition, I assumed that the other 6 were the ones they had co-written. Now that I've learned about Mike Campbell having written two of the songs with Stevie, I'm wondering if only 4 or 5 of the Dave/Stevie compostions have been recorded (depending on whether the Stevie composition may be one of the Campbell co-writes). There may have been quality control occurring from the very beginning and so they may only record what they believe to be absolutely worthwhile.

I have no problem at this point with la Nicks co-songwriting with Dave & Mike as long as the songs KILL! I would be much more disappointed to see her cover someone else's song ala "Everyday". It would be so cool for Stevie to have her signature on every single song, which would be the very 1st time in all her solo recordings.
And I really hope the song Mike C. refers to that Stevie "found" is not "My Heart", While it would have been a good addition to TISL but was cut in the final round, Most of us have a fully produced & mastered version that's been traded, unless as Mike said, they went in and made it better....but still, I'd rather have a new song. Exception being the song she re-discovered was "You Like Me" written by Mike & Stevie around the RAL era, and only recorded by the William Bros. in 1987 (who co-wrote "Some Become Strangers"). I would kill to see Stevie stick her fangs into this forgotten uptempo rockin' gem with venomous lyrics!!
Dave confirmations thus far via tweets, is that he co-wrote 6 songs with Stevie & that 7 tracks have been laid down. Now with Mike saying he was involved in co-writing 2 of those tracks, it's very possible 1 or 2 of the 7 have multiple writing credits with Stevie, Mike & Dave. While in the studio with Mike & Stevie, I could see Dave offering up suggestions and adding a couple of things & ending up with a co-writing credit.
And all the demo's mentioned in this thread thus far as being included are equal doses of fan speculation & wishful thinking at this point (even though it's fun to imagine each of our favorites dusted off and given a proper debut). So it is premature to get excited about "All The Beautiful Worlds", "If You Were My Love" "Annabel Lee" etc. that have been tossed around as possibilities as no song titles have been mentioned other than "Everybody Loves You", and we can infer by David Wild's comment about vampire's and ghosts, that Stevie may have recorded her "New Orleans song" (unknown title)........
I hope we hear more concrete information re. the status of the project and some song titles next month when Stevie is on her mini-tour and possibly does a couple of interviews, or Dave starts tweeting again about Stevie, once he wraps up his own CD, or even better, Stevie is so excited about her new material that she debuts one song at her gig's next month with Dave on stage as a special guest!!!
Till then we are all working ourselves into a lather.:]

Although I wouldn't go as far as stating that I strongly dislike the song, it definitely is on the lower rungs of the totem pole that make up TISL. They could have easily swapped out TMMS for "My Heart" and I feel TISL would have been a tad better for it.
The only thing TMMS had going for it, is that it provided a narrative for Stevie to talk in the press about her initial writer's block and trepidation around embarking on another solo recording. But other than that the song never really takes off for me, Stevie phoned in a melody line with her usual sprinkles of dreams and recollections - that just kind of sit there with a interesting groove. The only fascinating and empowering line is "once more I tell the shadows of my soul to stay back, Everything has changed now. And I don't want to go back, And nothing you can say can change my mind." Also Stevie says "WELL" wayyyy toooo many times in this song (may even hold the record!)...that's the only thing that rings in my head. LOL:rolleyes:

Ahhh yes....Juliet (the "Tango" demo), that is a piece of work.
I actually LOVE this demo, which she clearly recorded on the road whilst on the RAL tour de force. You can practically taste the whiskey on her breath and see the spit flying from her mouth & bouncing off the microphone when you take it all in. The RAL era, esp. tour, was when "well" started dominating Stevie's vocabulary & officially began her tourette's syndrome era (Common tics are throat-clearing and blinking. You may repeat words, spin, or, rarely, blurt out swear words.)

Here are the lyrics to the verse Stevie sang a cappella during Fleetwood Mac's New Orleans stop in 09', dubbed by fans as "The Vampire Song" or "New Orleans Song"
"I wanna get back to New Orleans.
I wanna sing out in the streets of the french quarter.
I wanna dress up, I wanna wear beads, I wanna wear feather's and lace.
I wanna brush by the Vampires.... and go down Bourbon Street."

I see a high possibility the documentary will get shelved, for sure. And we're certainly in for some hefty delays in the release of this project since Dave has exited the picture, and he was the driving force of urgency for this project. It seems like we've passed the point of no return for Stevie to release new material sometime in the next few years, though. In typical Stevie fashion, there's a high likelihood this project will morph, get pushed back, etc... but I still think something will come of it.

I don't know... Dave just tweeted he is back in the studio on Monday with Stevie and I think he is working still on the documentary. I think with Dave behind this project, sending out tweets and pics, it would be stupid for it to get shelved. We all need to have some faith this will happen. After all, we all thought Stevie would never be in the studio again making new music and now she is. I agree, sometimes delays are out of Stevie's control, but I am remaining optimistic about this.

Ahh, if Dave's back full time with Stevie, I have faith it will happen. He seems like a 'get stuff done' kind of guy. I'm still frankly quite surprised at the whole documentary thing, though. Stevie knows how limited of an audience she has for that this day and age. I guess she truly has had a huge shift in her views in the past year or two, when she was saying she'd never record again because it wouldn't sell. Go Stevie! :D

I was surprised by the documentary because it didn't seem like Stevie liked Destiny Rules that much. But that merely aspired to play up the band's drama. She obviously envisions something different for herself. She and Dave were probably spurred to want to do it all the more by Running Down a Dream.

I think it is Karen, because when Dave was asked if it is Stevie's twitter account, he was telling the truth when he replied no, because it is not Stevie, it's Karen.
See, Dave does his own twitter, his assistant doesn't do it for him, so to Dave, if Stevie isn't doing it herself, it is not "Stevie Nicks' Twitter account", it belongs to someone else then. At least, that's my logic.

So what do we make of possible release dates of Stevie's new album & Dave's documentary project, Now that Azoff has revealed to the L.A. Times this weekend that Fleetwood Mac is plotting an outing in 2011?? Of course this may not be concrete, but it's obviously on the table and it's announcement add's an intriguing twist to Stevie's project.
To me it's sounding more reasonable that Stevie could be planning on releasing this album in the fall/winter. I doubt that she will want to promote her new CD as she tours w/ Fleetwood Mac (as she did in a whirlwind week-off from the road for "Live in Chicago"), and I doubt that they would be very tolerant of her doing so.....esp. a work of all new material that is going to warrant her doing way more promotion than she did with Soundstage.

I agree. I think Fleetwood Mac should not tour again till at least 2012......and that may be a year toooo soon. The obvious elephant in the room is they would be even older & touring while they are still healthy and able to put on a decent show is probably not far from their minds. Also I really don't wish for FM to tour again unless they are promoting a new cd, but they obviously don't care what I think, and will go where the $$$ is. And if it's billed as the last farewell FM tour, then it's sure to draw a lot more attention and $$ than even "Unleashed" did.

They were lucky Unleashed did as well as it did, considering the economy. I'm not sure they would do nearly as well if they toured again so soon. The pent up demand wouldn't be there like it was during the 5 year stretch between SYW and Unleashed. Plus, I doubt the economy is going to improve that drastically in a year that everyone will be spending money to see shows again. I do agree that billing a tour as a Farewell tour would probably bring in big bucks. Can you imagine what would happen if pigs began to fly and Christine agreed to tour? It would be insane!

I agree... Unless there's something new to promote (or play), then FM should give it a rest for a couple more years... Let Stevie do her thing, hopefully it will inspire Lindsey to do something.. even if it were just some shows - that would be nice.
Or, if Fleetwood Mac limited their touring to the two months in the summer that Lindsey and Micks kids are out of School... That would Leave all of Spring and fall for Stevie if she wanted to do some stuff on her own... Hitting the same markets both as a solo and as FM might be a problem for ticket sales either way if that were to happen.
And yes... the economy isn't going to recover by next year.... I think it'll take a number of years.

So what do we make of possible release dates of Stevie's new album & Dave's documentary project, Now that Azoff has revealed to the L.A.
I think it'll be next year... spring.. tour to follow or around release date...

Nah, that's understandable but doesn't it ever feel weird to see or hear Stevie singing her songs? First time I saw Stevie sing Say You Love Me on YT I legit cried.
feeling like a loser
Ha ha yes it does and call me selfish for saying this and although I think it would be great if Chris toured with FM that means less time for Stevie songs and to be honest I'd much rather see Stevie than Chris. I know, it's shocking.

I'm really gonna be annoyed if another Fleetwood Mac tour replaces/interferes with Stevie doing a full on solo tour to promote her new album. They just toured last year. They need to give their novelty act a break.
Well look at someone like Bryan Ferry. He's releasing a solo album in Oct but he's touring with Roxy Music.
ETA: Hmmm... wouldn't it be ... interesting ... if Lindsey and Stevie did their own solo stuff so they wouldnt' ahve to deal with each other and then promoted their solo stuff by touring together? Maybe doing some of their new tracks in the setlist? i remember Mick saying he wanted to incorporate more of their solo needs into the set so there wouldn't be so much time between tours.

Wasn't everyone saying that Fleetwood Mac was supposed to be touring NOW with The Eagles not too long ago, instead we have Stevie recording an album. Thank You very much Stephanie!!! Now they're saying 2011 tour for Fleetwood Mac. I don't buy it.
But if it were true I would be forced to not go out of principle for the first time ever. That would just be wrong to go all through "09" giving the impression the Unleashed tour was just for the band to feel comfortable again until going into the studio, and Lindsey's comments about no new album YET, just to have them do another tour for nothing would piss me off. One Unleashed I can deal with. 2 Unleashed is just too much danmed furries being released into our atmoshpere.

This guy...Irving Azoff (?) throws Fleetwood Mac's name into an article saying they have an album or a tour or a new CD through walmart every six months. Take it with a grain of salt. Clearly Stevie has been inspired to do something different and is taking a different path. Lindsey would sit in the studio until the day he keels over if he had the option. Im sure he is taking his time creating new songs for a solo album as well.

This guy?? Um, this guy is Irving Azoff, probably the most powerful music executive there is and is part of the Fleetwood Mac management team. Yeah, there's a reason why he 'throws' their name out there...he's not involved for no reason...I'm sure it's just determining when the best time is to release those reasons...

I was going to mention something about the fact that I forget about Christine sometimes since my whole FM touring experience has been without her but I didn't want you to get your knickers in a twist ;).
It's funny, but even though I haven't seen Christine with those people in 13 years, it still feels weird to me that she's not there. I keep expecting her to be there and that her absence will be temporary. It's akin to the phantom pain you experience in an amputated limb.

I'm with you on this. Christine's music just doesn't grab me like Stevie and Lindsey's does, and if Christine's absence makes room for more of their material, I'm fine with that. (Though I would love to hear Everywhere live, and perhaps one or two others.)
Another point is that Christine wouldn't do a great big world tour, which means that she'd either only be present for a few shows, or it would only be a small tour in the first place, meaning we'd never see her in Dublin. Selfish, I know, but that's my take on it! :p
EDIT: PS, I loved SnL's version of Say You Love Me. I thought it sounded absolutely great. *ducks for cover*

I'm just about 19 and have saw Fleetwood Mac only 6 odd months ago and I too find it weird Christine not being there..
Stevie is my favorite but the element Christine brought to the band is irreplaceable, practically an original member and also not to mention Christine has majority of the chart singles that even further kept this band going through the 80's.
Watching Destiny Rules at the start when it gives a brief timeline then introduces every member of the band It's an unavoidable sinking feeling when Christine is not shown.
Mick says in DR also "She is just as much a part of Fleetwood Mac as much as himself therefore she has the right to do what she bloody well likes"... I think thats wah he says lol I just wished what she bloody well would like to do is get up on that stage and nail Isn't It Midnight and Songbird for me.. Yes I suspected that Stevie had muffled Dave from tweeting this week - he has been strangely silent. I know he was busy elsewhere on Thursday though:

I wonder if Dave is filming any rehearsals for the five dates coming- The first date is in TEN DAYS! I don't think anyone would perform without running through the set with the band, and the lineup of Stevie's solo bands tend to vary a bit each time out. Granted, she is only doing five concerts, but she's just not going to walk in on August 4 and do a show without any preparation, is she? Nah. I somehow expect Dave to be on stage with her at the shows.
So, my expectation is perhaps the recording is slowing down for a month, Dave is filming the 2 or 3 new songs she may surprise us with in her set, and he'll be at the shows with her.
Maybe. Maybe not. Or could be that Waddy is putting together the band and setlist with Stevie and then Stevie's just gonna show up at a soundcheck the day before and wing the five shows and not do any new material? Should all be very interesting, August 4 is practically here! I do think it's likely that this documentary he's speaking of will likely feature footage of some of the five shows, especially if she debuts her new Dave-ly produced material. I hope that's how it goes down. Thoughts? IS she in rehearsal for the 5 August shows right about now?

Stevie always rehearses, perhaps more than she should... hence her rather robotic, emotionless concerts of the past 15 years. She's definitely rehearsing, probably as I type. If she debuts any new music, I'd have to think it'd only be one song. But with such a small amount of shows, playing such small audiences, it really wouldn't behoove her to debut new material at this time. Especially since she hasn't recorded enough songs to know which ones will end up making the final cut, and I doubt any are totally in the can and fully ready to go. For the record, I hope she proves me wrong and debuts new material, and it blows everyone's socks off! I just don't see casino audiences as a very "Stevie" place to do that.

Good points, Louie. But I think she's recorded more vocals than Dave has let on. The Rolling Stone reporter has heard the music, and said 'there's blood in those tracks"-- he wouldn't say such a thing about music tracks laid down without lead vocals, reading from a lyric sheet.
It's more done than they're letting on. Just my opinion. I think they're nearly done. If they still had a ton of work to do on it, I don't think Dave would be planning this documentary or left for a week to work on his solo cd.
Of course, you can be totally right. But the RS writers raves weren't based upon rough mixes with scratch vocals- why would he go out on a limb about how good it all was if he knew he'd only heard demos that could be totally changed by the time of release? He'd look stupid, if the songs turn out to suck. He's heard final mixes, is my belief.
Also, since its only 5 dates, why NOT do more new songs than usual, what the hell difference would it make, she has no more bookings and it could create a small advance release buzz for the cd- and with youtube, maybe not small at all!
Don't get me wrong, I see all of your points, and wouldn't be surprised if you're totally correct!

And all of your points are perfectly valid, my friend. ...unless you think like Stevie Nicks! :p
Just think back to the Destiny Rules documentary, when Fleetwood Mac was shopping a record deal. The band (sans Stevie), had been recording for what, over a year at that point? and had half of an album done and in the can. What were the songs Stevie insisted the record execs (including the then-president of Warner Bros Music) hear FIRST? Her 5 unfinished rough demos, which were recorded OUTSIDE of Fleetwood Mac. And this was AFTER Mick explained to Stevie they'd spent the past 18 months trying NOT to sound like themselves, to break their own typecast mould. My point with this rambling is that Stevie doesn't have a problem sharing unfinished demos to the ears she deems worthy, even if the situation isn't entirely appropriate.
It's my humble opinion we won't see a new album before May of next year at the very earliest. That's if a major personnel change doesn't happen, if the album doesn't get scrapped for a mid-cycle reboot in regards to theme, or if Stevie doesn't shelve it altogether. All of this has happened in her past. I'm basing my formula for the release date on my experience with TISL in particular, since it's Stevie's only modern album. After we first started hearing rumblings about it in the press, and once she confirmed it, it was a full year before it dropped. Probably more, actually. I think my May release date is actually quite aggressive... it'll likely get pushed back further than that.

Also, another reason we probably haven't heard from Dave is because it's most likely Stevie's in rehearsals for her upcoming shows, and he doesn't have much to report on. Undoubtedly, Stevie's got him on Twitter lockdown too, like everyone is surmising.

Again, I see what you're saying. But 'casino audiences' are exactly who Stevie has chosen to perform to this coming month, because she's getting her price. Stevie must be aware that her fans will be right there along with the highrollers. I think if she loves the new music, she could really go out on a limb and do a few new songs, or more even, because it's not like she has a major concert promoter to say 'you can't'- plus, I don't think anybody is successful in telling Stevie 'you can't'.
I just really think the cd is almost completed. Really, why would a RS writer with his reputation at stake, say how good what he heard was, if he had only heard the music without the lead vocals on it? I believe he heard a good handful of songs, perhaps 7, that were complete. Stevie and Dave may have finished 2 more by now.
I'm not saying it will happen, but I think it makes sense to debut a bunch of new material in these size settings. The MGM Grand in CT seats 4,000. That's not tiny, tiny. In fact, it's about the perfect size venue for her to do whatever the hell she wants to do, which is what she does, usually. I think this time around, it could mean new songs. It could also mean she'll come through with what she said on that subscription (Serius?) radio show, about doing songs like 'Sable on Blonde' and 'Wild Heart' "the next time I go out solo".
I also am very aware that it could not be that way, at all. I have seen every tour she's done since 1982. I think the tinyness of this tour may help. The first solo tour was short, and she pulled out 'Blue Lamp' and a bunch of things that hadn't been heard before. Or since!

Ever since Dave tweeted he is filming a documentary, I feel ever optimistic that Stevie will perform a new song or two at least during one of the concert appearances. It seems to me that Stevie trusts Dave utterly, & Waddy has been involved in the sessions and knows the songs. She spent a week fine tuning the vocal's and harmonies while Dave was away in Nashville. So with the complete support of Dave & Waddy in tow, I suspect a new song will be played & filmed possibly to drum up even more attention towards the new record. Waddy has alway's tried to shake Stevie's set up, as he mentioned in a Q & A years ago suggesting instead of the tried and true Outside The Rain that they kick off the TISL concert with "Talk To Me" and ultimately compromised on SDMHA. Besides that, some people seem to forget that Stevie played 6 new songs off of TISL on that tour, And the Enchanted tour before that was another set list shake up. Stevie set began getting stale while performing in support of her greatest hits from 05'-08', and now that Crystal Visions is behind her and Soundstage has been filmed & released for posterity - I can really see how even Stevie may be a bit bored & shake up her set again by adding some old tour warhorses (Gold & Braid, No Spoken Word, Leather & Lace, Rooms on Fire) as well as her exciting new songs.
I'm also optimistic that the 7 songs that Dave mentioned on July 5th being complete tracks are keeper's and very good. And 2 or 3 of those tracks have got to be Killer!! Stevie has waited 10 years to record a new album & because the record business itself has become so scattered & without foundation which in itself allows for a certain freedom to not cater towards something that has to be viewed as commercial. I'm really hopeful that Stevie feels liberated to create something that she really love's and not stilted (by the powers that be) to create a top 20 hit or something overtly commercial. Then maybe, just maybe, she will write another accidental hit or have a semi-major comeback.
This of course is all very pragmatic deduction on my part, but completely plausible. And even after following Stevie for 30 years, I just don't think there will be a calculated need to delay the record's release, baring health issues, as there was with TISL (plotting a big comeback & angling for a hit single), while the RAL delay's were for completely different reason's - Stevie cocaine fueled ego collided with Jimmy & derailed the record whilst Stevie jumped from producers & recordings studio's all across globe - cut to SA - which was delayed by both narcotic's abuse & a horrible relationship with producer Glyn Johns culminating in another rehab stint then re-mixing & adding Waddy to the final recorded tracks. None of these obstacles or demons seem present or afoot. It appears that Stevie is in a stable & creative mode and is surrounded with musicians she respects and trusts. It's practically the perfect storm brewing, as it was with Bella Donna & The Wild Heart. Just my pound of flesh:p
BTW, Did anyone send David Wild a fan question on twitter @wildaboutmusic yesterday or today? I need to think of a profound and insightful question quick. Sounds like he's meeting w/ Stevie early next week again. Maybe we will see a article pop up on the Huffington Post or Rolling Stone soon.

Christopher, very detailed and well constructed post. :)
It is interesting that you brought up Bella Donna and The Wild Heart as I was beginning to wonder if this new album will be the book end to Bella Donna in terms of critical success as well as Stevie really flexing her creative muscle here (speculation on my part) and since Stevie paired down to only Sharon and Lori on backing vocals, seems possible. With what has been released so far from Dave Stewart in regards to this project, it seems like Stevie's musical muse and passion has returned in a huge way and I think Dave "gets" Stevie in a way other producers have not done in the past.
I am guessing that over the years, Stevie has done a lot of writing and finally wanted to say something to the world musically about everything going in (New Orleans song) and wasn't there a poem written about or to a soldier that I guess could get turned into a song if Stevie deems it worthy.
No matter when this gets released, hopefully I think we all will be blown away by it.
Here are the questions I submitted to David Wild.
Stevie, How did you select Dave Stewart as producer, any magical moments you would like to share during recording?
Stevie, what one word best describes this new album?
Stevie,is the documentary being released to coincide with the album and who came up with the documentary concept?
Stevie, will there be a full tour to support this album and has an album title been chosen yet? Possible release date?
Stevie, Can you tell us about the magic lucky photo on the mixing desk that you put there for the whole sessions?
Stevie,Dave Stewart said the album is being done in a very new way.Can you tell us a little about the process?
Stevie, the walk during Edge of 17 is a highlight of your solo shows, do you still enjoy that connection with the fans?
Stevie, what is your favorite song to sing live on stage?
Stevie, are you still donating iPods to the soldiers? How can fans donate to this worthwhile cause?
Stevie, in two words, describe the recording process/sessions for this album and are there any songs from the "vault"?
Stevie, are there any plans on a possible future Rhiannon movie project on the horizon?

Dave Stewart isn't tweeting about all the shiz he's got going with Stevie just for nothing he's clearly pre-marketing this whole thing.. Stevie would be foolish to completely shelve this album or delay it any further than necessary as would Dave who to my imagination has a degree of say in this album.. From all the positive compliments ranging from Rolling Stone editors to a collaboration of artists including the producers themselves, they are on a roll here.
Also, Stevie doesn't have the time necessarily to prolong this.. Fleetwood Mac's surely cookin something up to do with the next 3-4 years, she'd wanna do a tour with this album and she would also wanna put something out there while she & The Mac are selling records still (which they are)..
The time is now whether that be Dec or even late May.. With what I see It's impossible for me to be pessimistic about this album in anyway shape or form.
It's Stevie and it's something :blob2:

Stevie refers to the five demos as being what she wanted to play. That leads me to think they were the versions recorded before she arrived.

Thank you... I believe her exact words were: "Let's just play the five demos"

another accidental hit or have a semi-major comeback.
"Comeback?!? I hate that word. It's a RETUUUUUURN, a return to the millions of people who have never forgiven me for deserting the stage!"

!!! When did she say this?
Not that I believe a word of it, but I'd be curious to read/hear this interview.
"The next time that I go out, myself, I am going to do a special part of my set where I actually bring the girls down and bring everybody down and we're going to do kind of an interactive thing and I'm going to pull out those songs. I'm gonna pull out Kind Of Woman That'll Haunt You and Wild Heart and Blond on... Sable on Blond and some of those wild and crazy songs that have never been done, because I want to! The creative side of me says, 'This would be really fun for you to do these songs that you loved so much when you wrote them, but never had a chance to do.' Because people always want to hear the ones that are like, the most familiar, the most hit-like, even if they weren't singles, so now I'm going, 'So we've done that for what? 50 thousand years!' So now i am going to do that and I am going to start bringing those songs back, because they deserve to be played!"
-Stevie (Larry Flick Interview 2009)
So she has the idea that she needs to spice up her set, but will she? I guess we will have to hide and watch.

I wonder how many takes have been ruined so far by girl scouts and Jehovah's Witnesses stopping by to ring the doorbell?
Girl Scout - Wanna buy some cookies?
Stevie - Oh geez, I mean.. like... I want 10 boxes of thin mints!

amazing chandelier but I've got a thing for chandeliers! LOL. The fact that Stevie is not in that pic makes it all the more intriguing and mysterious. It just screams elegance!! And now, it's my new wallpaper!!

what a great idea! Yeah, last night, I got home from a date at 1:00 am and I needed a shower and to get to bed, but I just sat and stared at that picture for like 10 minutes!
ETA: Can anyone embed it. I can't view the link at work but it would surely lift my spirits. :(

I understand Stevie's wishes, but short of strip searching her "fans," she's not going to be able to control people that record and/or video tape her shows. I guess that means we will not get anything new until the new cd is out. I'm not sure on how smart that is. Giving her work some exposure could be a good thing for her and generate talk and interest.

Aaahhh she needs to realise what a good tool YT is!! Blondie have done 5 new songs off their 13 track album and wanting studio versions has made the fans rabid!

There is the definitive answer I'd say ..no new songs until the tour following the album..in fact the last time I recall Stevie ever singing a new song before the release of an album was SOTM in the summer of 1978 ..decades before youtube.

She needs to leave the fairy tale world she lives in and come join us in 2010.
YouTube might just help her sales. Ms. Shelby Lynne didn't mind singing her new
songs months before her new album came out.

Shelby is good.. although her kid sister is better. She was never however a superstar whose frame of reference is that long ago gilded age of mega platinium albums and enormous royalty checks.

I've tried to like Allison, just haven't found the right material yet.
You're right about Shelby not being a superstar, but if they were
starting today Shelby has a more promising future. Even if you could
give Stevie back 20 years. In other words, Stevie's not really a superstar
anymore. No more platinum albums for her. In today's market probably
not even Gold for new material. As much as I like her, especially her first
three albums; she hasn't put out a really good album in the last two decades.

I asked him to give us a hint on when, as I'm sure it will be when the album comes out.

Hopefully Stevie will come around to the importance of online marketing because she's not going to get much of it in other places. A lot of people don't even listen to the radio anymore. Maybe Dave can work his magic and knock a wee bit of sense into her head. He should drive home the point that it's free marketing, which is the best kind! How can she object to that?

I beg to differ! And I don't think I'm the only one. Trouble in Shangri-La was a strong album, and there are a number of people who place it up there with Bella Donna and Wild Heart.

I agree on TISL. Definitely a great album. Came out in the top five on it's release. Not too shabby.
