I agree on TISL. Definitely a great album. Came out in the top five on it's release. Not too shabby.

Not too shabby at all. But it probably helped that she had VH-1 tooting her horn, which she isn't going to have this time.

Take all the marketing you can get, woman!

This is kinda scary when you think about it... since she clearly knows about YouTube, she probably knows about all of the crap that's out there... in particular, those creepy photo montages. But most importantly, YouTube has been quite the place to go find unreleased songs and demos of hers. She must be pretty pissed about that. It's no wonder that she assumes that everyone is downloading her music for free and that nobody will buy it.

GO STEVIE GO STEVIE!!!!!!!

Years of experience tells me that the ealier remark of Stevie regarding youtube will be the decisive factor...in other words I'd have to make an educated guess that the probablity of a new songs being performed in August is less than 10%.

Just curious - what's "creepy" about a photo montage? I mean unless the photos are those deer-caught-in-headlights / eyes-closed-on-flash / high-as-a-kite / drunk-off-her-a** shots then I don't see a problem. Some of those beat the heck out of the crazy '80 videos.

I understand Stevie's wishes, but short of strip searching her "fans," she's not going to be able to control people that record and/or video tape her shows. I guess that means we will not get anything new until the new cd is out. I'm not sure on how smart that is. Giving her work some exposure could be a good thing for her and generate talk and interest.

Oh wow. Everybody here seems so smart about it. Stevie isn't being smart, if this twit Tweet is true. If "she would love to" do some new songs, do them, babe. She's being ridiculous.
If she doesn't do new songs, it will be because she does not WANT to. Saying "I'd love to but don't want them on YouTube" is so odd. What SHOULD worry her would be if she sang the new songs and they did NOT wind up on YouTube! "People care about my new songs, OH NO!"
YouTube would help her far more than it would hurt her, as many of you have pointed out.
"Oh I'd just love to go on a diet but I'm afraid I'd lose some weight!"-- that makes about as much sense- She should be glad that people care enough - or would care enough- to give her new material exposure in a way that radio doesn't anymore. Get with YouTube, Stevie!

I don't want this to sound like a Stevie-bash. I really like her, always have, always will.

Christopher

Yeah in a rational reality that makes perfect sense Nikolaj, but this is Stevie's reality  ("this is not the world, not the world not the real world"), not sure what she is smoking these daze, but she is def. old school all the way, and surrounds herself with such.

I think it's ironic. The same people who troll youtube for every possible Stevie/FM related video are the same people who are going to be at the store or online buying any new material within the first 5 minutes it is commercially available. And probably buying more than 1 copy. But that is probably common knowledge amongst us the fans and not anyone in the music industry.

Agreed. New Stevie song on YouTube? I'm eating that **** up. Not only am I eating it up, I'm shoving it down everyone else's throat too! And come time for the album to be released, I will probably pre-order it and then buy it off of iTunes the day it comes out just so I don't have to wait for it to come in thru the mail. I kinda understand Stevie's view, she wants to give this to us all at once. She wants us to hear the version that is produced to perfection, not some live performance that may or may not turn out well. I say, sing a verse and a chorus, build up some excitement, perform a song she's never done live before, even if it is one we already have a demo of. Tease us with stuff you know will get on youtube, but make us buy the whole enchilada. Dave Stewart is very up to date with technology tho, so maybe he can help her with marketing.

Boo. So there's not actually an an article/sound bite/etc where STEVIE HERSELF actually says the words "I'd like to record Lady From The Mountain". We just have some girl named Kim, with an incomplete interview, who says that Stevie said that. Hmmmm...

Holy L Word, she does rock, old school style! I'm not sure if Dave Stewart produced any of the songs posted on her website, but they sure don't stand like standard Dave-produced fare! They are raw, sloppy, fiery... she is quite the talent. I think she could be the leather to Stevie's lace!

Dave said he would be at rehearsals and here is his tweet:

Watching s nicks rehearsal with waddy and full band , sounds great her voice is so powerful they are messing around with TP song now

So, do you guys think messing around means they are going to cover a TP song other than INTK? Remember, she didn't play it in 08. I'm hoping for something we haven't heard, not INTK. Not Free Fallin' either, but that is a possibility, imo.

I feel like they wouldn't be "messing around" with INTK. I feel this band knows that song by heart and could do it in their sleep. It's gotta be something else. she said the 2 covers would be songs she doesn't normally do, and she had to be high during the interview if she thinks INTK is a song she doesn't normally do.

"Learning to Fly" - she seemed to have a lot of fun w/ that while touring with Petty. And gives her another opportunity to show off her wings/dripping sleeves.

Or they could have just been goofing around during rehearsal and don't plan to do any Petty cover songs.

The call and response part with the audience for Learning to Fly was awesome. I'd hoped that somehow FM could incorporate that into one of their songs. If Stevie did the original at her own concert, I think the audience would have as much fun interacting and singing along as they do on Landslide.

I would love for Stevie to attempt "Learning To Fly" solo. It fit's her perfectly, and she really seemed into it on the Heartbreaker's 06' tour. It would be an awesome TP cover, instead of the tired and needs to be put to bed - INTK or even "Free Fallin".

You Wreck Me would be fun and novel. I think Stevie's attitude to (fear of?) Youtube makes more sense when you consider that she doesn't use it. We understand Youtube and the internet generally because we interact with it daily -- hourly! -- and are familiar with the atmosphere there and how it influences our opinions, tastes and record-buying behaviour. Stevie probably knows only the basics and assumes the worst.

Just my two cents!

All he's saying is that his piece on Stevie won't be a big article... just a snippet because it's simply an album preview. Can't write a whole lot about anything that doesn't have a working album title, track listing, or release date... so much is subject to change.

Dave initially indicated he was writing an "in the studio" piece. If so, they tend to be half page features, about 4-6 paragraphs with a picture (the one of Stevie with her head down... listening to playbacks comes to mind). But his tweet comes across as it may only be 1 0r 2 paragraphs (brief mention) of fleeting interest. Maybe he is trying lower our expectations so we all don't twit him to death when the "preview" is published.

This points to what I've been guessing for a long time... the release date of the album will likely get pushed back. Ugh. It takes several months to mix and finish post production on an album, get the album artwork, photography, and liner notes sorted out, WB will want time to formulate a marketing plan, etc. We haven't even heard an album title yet. I could easily see this album getting pushed back to late next year now.

Overreact much? Being in the studio does not automatically mean that they are still working out songs and trying out different arrangements. Yes, it could be that, but it could also be about merely tweaking things here and there or doing some overdubs. Rest assured, WB already has the studio roughs and is already pondering the promotional strategy as well as artwork and packaging/configuration. Considering the excitment behind this project and Dave's notorious work ethic, I think there is no reason (yet) to believe that this will be delayed. If anything, I am glad that they are taking their time to get things done correctly.

Stevie also mentioned in some of her August interviews that they were nearly done in the studio, so I'm not surprised at all that they are back in the studio, because Stevie said they would be.

I'm just pleased that Dave hasn't abandoned the project and that he continues to be by Stevie's side, guiding the album. If it were up to her to finish things on her own, that's when the doubt and second-guessing would come to the fore and the dreaded remixing tendency would rear it's ugly head again.
It was my impression that they were by no means finished at the time Stevie did those few shows in August and so at the very least, post-production needs to be undertaken. I'm also hopeful that Stevie is furiously revising lyrics here and there as they most probably require major editing - not just because some were taken directly from her poetry but because she also mentioned in one of the recent interviews that the songs were extremely long and needed to be edited. Just working out what stays and goes will be a task in itself but Dave has great instincts when it comes to a sense of measure. Dave also rarely over-produces - don't misundertand me, I know he can sometimes be over-the-top and bombastic but if that were the case, it would have been the intention all along. What I appreciate about his approach is that he favours spontaneity over burying a song. I also think Stevie respects his judgment and will listen to him.
I think we're on track for a March 1 release because Dave is due to release his album at that time and they do plan to tour together. I think it would be unlikely that either Dave or Stevie would allow this to be interrupted.

PS If Dave is indeed involved in the mixing of Stevie's album, he is notoriously swift with this process. Back in the heyday of Eurythmics, Dave proudly proclaimed that he would mix a song from start to finish each day and so he is more than capable of wrapping this baby up in no time - all the while, keeping things fresh and unencumbered.
Stevie obviously adores Dave and seems to have had a genuine blast during the making of this album so I think she's more than happy to trust his judgment, which all makes for a rapid completion of proceedings.

Thank you! Fantastic post from an upbeat, positive mind!

Five and 1/2 months until March 1st, and Dave being in the studio with Stevie must mean we'll be lucky for a Christmas 2011 release ~ LOL!

Both of your posts are very informed and wise, Phil. Let's all remember (or take note, if we weren't fans) that from 1981-1989, Dave produced a new Eurythmics album and released it every single year, except for 1988. Savage was released in Late 1987, and singles were released all throughout 1988. 1988 was planned to be a year off for Annie to have her first child, which was, sadly, stillborn. But my point is that Dave is superfast and efficient in the studio.

And, like you said, Dave is touring with Stevie, things are already in motion.

Note: "Stand Back" was written in January 1983, five months before The Wild Heart was released. What if Stevie's just written a new Classic like "Stand Back"? :]

I'd say Reese is definitely the one. We're talking about an Academy Award winning actress here, not some drugged-out wannabe (Lindsay Lohan). They could definitely fix her looks in the make-up department, but hey, if Stevie wants Reese to play her, I'm for it. Plus, they are obviously friends, and I believe that Stevie will allow her the role because she has shared/is sharing her stories with her as someone she truly loves and trusts.

Reese will not play Stevie Nicks. She is signed on to play the singer Peggy Lee in the Peggy Lee biopic. She's already played June Carter Cash and won an oscar. She will not play a third singer.

P.S. I think its odd that Reese in the studio in her film. It's like she just put her there for star report. "Look who is my friend!" I'm sure they are friends but Stevie said she didn't care if the record sold. Obviously, she does, but Reese will not help sales.

What would Reese's presence in the studio have to do with record sales? They are friends and are spending time together. It seems as if whomever Stevie is "hanging out" with, someone somewhere has a problem with it.

I seriously doubt that Stevie feels the need to flaunt her famous friends in front of the camera. If anything I suspect that Reese is a dyed-in-the-wool chiffonhead and I would not be surprised in the least if she lurks on the Ledge, especially given all of the "Reese playing Stevie" threads that have come and gone over the years; just Google "Stevie and Reese" and the Ledge pops up. So naturally she is doing what any other self-respecting chiffonhead would do- hang out in the studio with Mama!

I am 34 years old and have many close friends ranging from 19 to 70. Age has nothing to do with anything. Maybe Stevie and Reese like the same music, movies, food, whatever. I'm sure if they do indeed hang out, then they've got some things in common, besides celebrity.

It would be fun if different people (both actresses and singers) did a series of glamor shops where they were modeled after Stevie in some of her classic poses. It could be a Vanity Fair spread or something. I just saw some pictures of Katie Holmes "as" Jackie O and they were pretty impressive.

I have to admit that despite the corny lyrics, I kinda dig this song! Very catchy. And the production is very Dave- strings, acoustic guitars and even some church bell sounds (and a bazouki as well?). And I don't even mind Dave's vocal either; I like it when British singers sing with British accents. Yes, it's a very, very big, commercial/contemporary sound, but I am interested to see Stevie attempting this kind of song. No, I don't want 14 songs like this, but it would definitely be new and different for one or two songs.

Ah come on... give it a chance. I had the same reaction too at first. But I looked past the obvious (hot chick singer writhing around on a yacht) and listened to the production, the instrumentation and the melody. It's not the best piece of music ever recorded, but it is a very solid, very musical, very relevant sound which I think Stevie should try on for size.

I donno, it's just weird for me :] ...I know Hannibal is fictitious and C.S. is real but for me, watching Anthony Hopkins eat people in one movie and later on play C.S. Lewis....well, I can't explain it, it was just weird for me. C.S. Lewis is eating people? Okay, maybe that means he's just a good actor. Buhhh, I wouldn't go as far to say it is awful, even tho the video is pretty horrendous, but it just isn't something I'd want Stevie's album to sound like. But since everyone has been raving about it, either somebody is really lying to Stevie and Dave or her album does not sound like this. My biggest problem is that this song isn't memorable at all. Anna Vissi's not really a songwriter in the sense that Stevie Nicks or Dave Stewart are. I actually am a fan of her music (and no, I'm not Greek).. but it's in a much different vein than Stevie's (some of my lesser favorite material of Anna's is more European techno-pop; I much prefer her material that blends what's referred to as Greek Laïkó music with modern pop sensibilities).

I do agree this particular song (while not a bad song to me) is not memorable or unique.

This is just my humble speculation...Dave's got 2 weeks off, then he's going to do final touches on the record? Final touches probably include final mixing and mastering, which probably will only take about 2 or 3 weeks (if the rumors are true that they're fast workers). The album sounds like it will be completely finished by Halloween (again, just my humble speculating).

So in the 4 months between Halloween and the projected release date of 3/1/11, what is there to do? Do they give it to the big wigs at Warners, let them listen to it, figure out the three "radio friendly" singles and conjure up a marketing campaign? How long in between these decisions and the release date? Of course also factoring in how long it takes to press a million or so CD's and (hopefully) vinyl.

Very true, but it just seems like they were so into doing this fast and everything, but now they get together for a few days and then take weeks/months off. I just hope Stevie is utilizing her free time to write for a new Mac record or figure out her setlist for her next tour, or you know, work on her book...

They seem to take A LOT of breaks. And since he is the producer, by "final touches" does he mean the album will be fully completed by the end of the month?

They are also maybe talking a break from the "filming" cause arent they filming the making of this album?

My secondhand understanding is that, according to Jana Anderson's Facebook page, there is supposedly a private Fleetwood Mac gig in Australia in October. I don't want to spread any false rumours, but that is what I've heard. I have a difficult time believing this is going to actually happen, but it's kind of coming directly from the source. Don't shoot the messenger!

"They" filmed the entire 1976 UC Santa Barbara concert, but only a couple of songs were included in the Rosebud video.

HEY, PEOPLE, HOW ABOUT OFFICIALLY RELEASING THE ROSEBUD VIDEO ON DVD, WITH THE ENTIRE 1976 UCSB CONCERT AS "BONUS FOOTAGE"? (or are they just waiting until they finally call it quits to release all this stuff as "retirement income"??)

That's interesting. I remember a date showing up at some winery over there on New Years Eve. It was posted and then delted a couple of day later, even though it looked pretty legit. I thought that might turn out to be a private gig.

Guys... Take a read of this:

PROMOTER Michael Gudinski will announce the last-minute entertainment for "Grand Final Take Two'' today.
Gudinski has been frantically trying to lock down performers after the shock draw.

"It's pretty complicated because of the last-minute time frame," he said.

"I'm waiting on some answers from America because it's the weekend for them, but there could be a surprise. There's a possibility of it being an international act."

The rumour mill went into overdrive yesterday with a swag of possible acts, from AC/DC to Pink, both deemed to be wishful thinking.

Sources say Gudinski and the AFL put in frantic calls to promoters and bands to see who was available or in town this Saturday.

The country's biggest band, Powderfinger is playing in Townsville on Friday and Saturday.

The John Butler Trio is on a break before a European tour.

UK band Simply Red is in Australia but playing a winery in New South Wales.

Vanessa Amorosi, Shannon Noll and Kasey Chambers are other names thrown around.

Depending on their profile, bands can take home a six-figure pay cheque for a three-song performance.

Gudinski also defended INXS, who were slated on some radio stations for their greatest hits performance.

"You can't win. I thought INXS were great, they've got big hits and that's what you need for the Grand FInal. You can't put the latest bands on there because 90 per cent of people won't know them," he said.
Sunday's NRL Grand Final announced an exciting entertainment bill.

Rock band You Am I, with guest vocalists Dan Sultan and Grinspoon's Phil Jamieson will perform Rolling Stones songs, balancing out Jessica Mauboy plugging her latest single.

Music festival Parklife is making the most of out an unforeseen clash with the grand final replay.

The event, headlined by Groove Armada, starts at midday on Saturday at the Myer Music Bowl and will run to about 10pm.

Promoters have added a huge screen with audio for footy fans at the back of the Bowl. Other screens will be around the site.

Note:Lionel Richie has been announced as the performer. Do you think this would be good for Stevie/Mac?

This idea was discussed a few years ago  Sounds fantastic but I think we concluded that Stevie would never go for it. A private gig is one thing, but surely a private gig for an audience FULL of diehard fans who all want their moment with her would scare her off. Understandable, really!

Should we come up with a setlist for this fantasy Stevie gig? I suggest 20 tracks, which should include some album cuts, and how about we each get 1 veto.... would it get a bit messy?! Friendships could be tested...

It seems as though Stevie will be included in the concert line-up, along with Martina McBride. The report mentions that Dave will be performing some of his more famous songs and alludes to "Dont' Come Around Here No More" - I wonder if Stevie will consider singing this with him - not just backing vocals but actually share the lead with Dave?

Dave certainly gets things done - to think he'll have the live dvd available in time for the release of his album is astounding when you consider how long it normally takes to issue these things.

Yeah, I concede I may have been a little premature in my excitement but a previous report regarding the show mentioned there would be special guests and I guess I interpreted "this special, exclusive show where Dave will perform his brand new Nashville Blackbird Diaries record featuring Stevie Nicks and Martina McBride" as being confirmation. I guess it depends on how you read it - does it just reference the fact that his album features Stevie or something else? However, I think you're correct and I made a mistake - sorry about this.

I would be shocked if she didn't make an appearance. No doubt Dave would like her there to perform Cheaper Than Free and I think she would accommodate if she's available.

I think it is doubtful that Stevie will appear because:

-She's probably not getting paid (tickets are too cheap for that).

-The Belcourt is basically a large movie theater- not exactly MSG.

-If she was really going to be there, wouldn't you think Dave would milk it for all it's worth? Accordingly, wouldn't he have chosen a larger venue? And wouldn't he have billed it as "Dave Stewart and Friends?"

But if he's filming it for his dvd, could it be just that he wanted that venue because it gives him the intimate look he wants. Maybe he chose it for DVD atmosphere, rather than just as a concert stop. And maybe the reason he is not publicizing her appearance is just because the place IS so small and cannot accommodate everyone who would want to come if they knew Martina, Taylor or Stevie would show up.

I know for Lindsey's Soundstage, I thought that Stevie might be there, but there was no formal announcement.

I think you're right, but let's keep in mind what Stevie did with Tom Petty just a few years ago. She toured with him without being on the ticket, she never got paid, and was only announced in the middle of the show right before she walked out. Stevie does cool stuff like that for her friends. She played a small theatre/club a while back in LA with Vanessa Carlton. In my mind, it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility. I know with Tom Petty and likely Vanessa Carlton, she likely didn't want to upstage those who had invited her onstage, and in turn, Tom and Vanessa wanted Stevie to be a surprise to their audience.

There was a vid on YouTube several years back (can't seem to find it now) of the band, Venice, playing in some teeny tiny dive bar in Los Angeles. They covered Landslide, and lo and behold, Stevie came on stage to sing it with them. I thought that was really cool of her. What's funny is that on the video, you can hear people talking, beer bottles clanging, waitresses walking back and forth, etc...yet our girl was still up on that tiny stage singing her heart out.

May 15, 1985 ~ Stevie did a surprise performance with her then-boyfriend Les Dudek at a small L.A. club called Bodega Bay. Stevie sang a wild, bluesy version of "Talk To Me', which she had just recorded (Rock A Little wouldn't be released for six more months). Stevie sang on 3 other songs, all blues/rockabilly standards, I believe.

I've seen pics of Stevie's 1989/1990 surprise performances with Venice, including one where she wore a very curly black wig, a la Cher, circa 1989.

Also, just look at how many Stevie fans have frolicked all over Dave, especially on twitter since he announced he was working with Stevie. I think if he announced Stevie was there, the venue would be crowded with so many chiffonheads waiting for Stevie, it may ruin the whole vibe of his new album.

Precisely. This day and age, the Mac needs all the advertising and pre-exposure help they can get to fill their venues. I believe some of the arenas on the Unleashed tour were only 1/2 sold. Fleetwood Mac isn't just going to take off on tour next month without announcements, radio and print advertising, etc. Part of it is the recession, part of it is the fact they've been so erratically inactive for decades now... thus not growing or even keeping their fanbase focused.

Exactly. And the Frank Erwin Center is was too big for her. But there are some smaller places she could play that could still hold a decent crowd, such as the Austin Music Hall which seats 4400 I believe. It seems she likes hitting Dallas and Houston/Woodlands, but I am keeping my fingers crossed for Austin this time around.

I'm guessing that's because there are no corporate "sheds" (amphitheaters).

I am down too! I could definitely see her performing at the Long Center. Here's hoping!

This is why I knew we wouldn't be getting a holiday release. They are still recording. Dave's a busy man. Glad he's still committed to Stevie's project, but they are taking their time, making sure everything's right.

Final days? Good. That makes sense. The next few months will be spent on post production, photo shoots, marketing, and all that jazz! March, why are you so farrrrrrrrrr away???

Stevie doesn't need Dave for the photo shoots and marketing. I bet a lot of that has already been done. I think they are just perfecting and tweaking it, adding vocals and instruments a remixing a few songs.

How can you prepare a marketing campaign and theme for a product you don't have, and don't know what the end product will actually end up being? That makes no sense to me.

Is Dave implying that he may use "Cheaper Than Free" to be used as a promotional single & video for his release. Next year is going to be so exciting for Stevie Nicks fans! Woo Hoo! So looking forward to new music.... Its been far too long, even by Stevie standards.

There might possibly be a big FM type of promotion next year, all centered around the same 2 or 3 month span. We have Dave's album with a duet with Stevie, we have Stevie's album, we have the Rumours Country album produced by Stevie, we have Lindsey's album and Tour(s) too. Plus we still have the rumours flying about a possible FM album and tour next year as well.

John aka APerfectLie asked Dave recently if any of his duet partners from his upcoming album would be at his Nashville concert taping event, and he basically said there's a very strong possibility or something to that effect. He probably isn't announcing who will be there so he isn't flooded with 10,000 chiffonheads and nobody there to actually hear HIS music at HIS event. :D

I already got my grubby little fingers around my ticket...Didn't want to be kicking myself in the a** if some very special sweet darling chiffonhead goddness happened to show up  But I'm going no matter what. I literally live 2 blocks away from the Belcourt. It is one of Nashville's oldest and historic theatres. They mostly play Independent and Foreign films, but every once in awhile, they have a concert. General Admission at the venue means that no specific seat is reserved. You basically have to show up an hour or so early so that you can pick a good seat. Myself? I plan on being there about 2 hours before the doors open so that I can try for a front row seat.

Yea what was Lindsey's exact quote in Destiny Rules in a very dissatisfied tone: "Yeah Chris Lord Alge's thing is I come in at noon, I have it up and mixed by 4.. WHATS NEXT" So this should be mixed in a couple days because Stevie isn't battling with Lindsey, and she's not gonna lose a day to mix Monica this time. Although maybe I shouldn't jump the gun, as I speak we may be getting part 2 to the great mixing argument, with Dave Stewart taking Lindsye's spot in the sequel. Stevie is currently sitting a couch not budging to help look for ringing phone as Dave and Karen search.

I think Say You Will was half great and half "meh" in terms of production. EVERYTHING was a little overdone for my taste but I think songs like "Thrown Down" and "Red Rover" turned out interesting.

But this is awesome news. I effing LOVE the majority of Trouble in Shangri-La (minus a few of those middle tracks) and I think we can reasonably expect something similar for this album. Not to jump the gun, but I have a good feeling.

Oh for f*ck's sake...can't she work with some YOUNG TALENT??! She preaches about bringing up the next generation of singer/songwriters...what about the next generation of producers. CLA is so boring (in my absolutely correct opinion), plus he's practically a BRAND. Why, oh why is it impossible for these 50 and 60 year-olds to spread the wealth a bit. They had their chance. Get some fresh, young energy into the project, oh wait, too late...maybe on the album she makes when she's 73.

Really is the mixer gonna make THAT much of an impact on the album? And thats a question, not a statement. And on a somewhat unrelated note, why is mixing so difficult that it's the one thing Lindsey doesn't do himself. He has on past projects the past 30 years, played nearly all instruments at times, produced the album, engineered the album, spent a decade talking about an album, but he never learned how to mix an album. Is mixing such a specific skill, that only a select few out there are able to do it,l even someone with the vast multi level musical knowledge of Lindsey?

Good questions. The mixer might make a big difference or might not, but It certainly CAN make a difference. That's why there are people that make a living doing sound mixing. No Questions Asked is mixed horribly, for example, Love in Store is mixed wonderfully (again, in my completely perfect opinion). I guess what I object to is seeing the same names appearing over and over again. She's been using CLA for about 15-20 years now. Enough's enough. I'd love to see some hungry, 28 year old, talented, female mixer be given the job.

Why LB doesn't do the mixing could be for any number of reasons i suppose. Fatigue, may be one. Time, another. After listening to all of the teeny tiny parts being recorded, then engineering their sound to perfection, for 9- 12 months, he may just feel that he has no ability to mix them well without taking another 12 months. He may just want to hear finished mixes and give a quick yes or no.

Blast away.

I agree with you, which is surprising considering Lindsey's notorious need for control when his music is involved. I've wondered this too-- I think he must work very closely with his mixer or else he'd go crazy.

I always took that comment to be a typical dry John joke... him poking at Lindsey, who was a bit too strung out on the subject of who was going to be doing the mixing, etc.

'Dave Stewart:

Dave is quite adept at mixing himself, but it would seem on this occasion that he is content to share the responsibility with CLA. Dave is notoriously fast at mixing, so alongside the equally swift CLA, they should have this baby wrapped up within the fortnight. I imagine CLA will defer more to Dave than the other way around so don't be anxious about the results.

I'm actually pleased work is continuing on the album because it makes the March 1 release date all the more acceptable to me. If it had been completed back in August, I would have been annoyed that it wasn't issued by the end of this year, but if additional work was required, so be it. I want Stevie to be absolutely satisfied with the album from start to finish.

I agree. Considering their timeline, a March release does seem more logical..not just waiting to release it for the sake of waiting. I don't know about anyone else, but I breathed a big 'ol sigh of relief when I read they were actually mixing. This means everything that's going to be recorded has been. Not that last minute changes can't happen but the bulk of the work is done. It looks like Dave kept Stevie on track and focused for once, with no major staff overhauls or changes in direction to delay the final product from showing up on store shelves. Yippee!

Well to be fair, it's not the 1st time she has stayed on track and focused. Bella Donna, Wild Heart & TOSOTM all stayed on track and didn't get the multi-producer & staff overhaul drama that RAL, SA & TISL did. But more importantly it seems from the tibit's Dave and Stevie have expressed in interviews & tweets that Stevie's upcoming project came about more organically and less forced than any record that Stevie has ever done since Bella Donna. It's inspiring and quite possible that we may see the best Stevie Nicks solo effort in 30 years!

And even if they miss the anticipated release date of March 1st, I don't see it being delayed more that 2 months after March. As Stevie mentioned in one interview regarding the release of the record, "We've all got places to go"... which probably portends that Stevie will be getting back with FM by 2011 years end to plan for another record perhaps but definitely another tour with the group.

I don't think the release date will be delayed for any major reason other than strategic planning for marketing purposes and not go against any other major artist release that take away from Stevie's 1st week sales and chart position which can be touted in the ensuing media promotion if it is substantial by today's standards. That being said I fully expect the release anywhere between March 1st and May 1st 2011 with a spring/summer shed tour to follow with Dave Stewart...and then back to FM for a tour or record or both planned for 2012!

In no way shape or form do I expect a delay due to any other reason. Stevie has been very excited about this group of songs as reported in several interviews in august when the majority of the recording had already taken place. Post-production and any final additional recording resumed in Sept. and Oct., and now we know the project is in the final mixing phase...we are very close to it all being wrapped up.:)

Similar to SYW, which was completed by the Holidays in 2002 and held til the release date of April 15 2003.

Since everything is done digitally these days (except if your name is Lindsey Buckingham), adding/subtracting elements to/from a recording is a breeze. No more having to remix and remaster. Once these final flourishes are finished they could theoretically upload these tracks for downloading on iTunes tomorrow. Of course they're not going to do that, but it just goes to underscore the reality that this is actually happening. OMFG, a new Stevie Nicks solo album.
