My favorite part of the show is actually the first part, not because of the horrible singers, but it's where it stars the judges, my favorite part of the show. And I usually just watch the singing ever week in the slim hopes they'll do a Fleetwood Mac song. And sometimes I get a favorite, believe it or not, by favorite last year was the winner, Fantasia. And the year before it was Ruben and Kimberly Locke and also Kimberly Caldwell.

Curiosity lead it to #1. However, it did not stay long, if at all. Success is having an album that has longevity. His, I'm afraid, did not. It's ashame, too because he seemed like a nice guy.

I saw Ryan Seacrest on Ellen today and he said they're going to try to make this season a little different. During the semifinals they will have the guys sing one night and the girls another night. My favorite part though is still hearing all the terrible auditions.

I actually bought Fantasia's album. I'm glad to have supported her but am disappointed that it sounds pretty much like the rest of the R&B that's on the radio these days. I loved the gospel-y/bluesy/funk she put into all of her performances on the show. Though she was often over-the-top, she was always original. Most of that is missing on the album. I suppose it is worth it to have Summertime in my CD collection, however. She does that song brilliantly.
I liked Rueben back in the day mainly because he wasn't Clay, but he really has turned out to be incredibly dull (and sweaty). That silly I'm Sorry (2004) was terrible. I admit that I didn't take the time to figure out what the lyrics were other than "I'm sorry for 2004." What the hell does that mean?
At any rate, I am definitely looking forward to another season. I hope Paula has sobered up a bit, though by the looks of her Golden Globes dress, she hasn't!

Simon was on Jay Leno last night. He said they don't show the people who go in to auditions and "try" to be bad. They pick the ones that think they are good and have no clue they suck. I don't know, though.

That guy was terrible! LOL
And the one guy who sounded just like a woman...wow
I was typing on the computer not looking at the screen...and I heard him introduce himself and I swear I thought it was a woman...and then I turned around and saw the screen.

No, they did tell one girl that she was a bit "pitchy" at times - of course, I thought she was great, lol!
I don't really hate the audition shows, I think they're pretty amusing. But enough is enough - 3 weeks of it was way too much, IMO.

I just want to know why it's OK for the men to be overweight on there with Simon, but forget it with the women. I don't think he ever told Reuben that he was overweight. It just ticks me off.
Some of their choices really made me wonder. Paula saying that guy was better than James Brown. Was she kidding? No way! Opera girl, I had to hold my ears, too. And OMG, her clothes! Image problem there, I don't know who was worst dressed, the one last night that dressed like a hooker or opera girl. And I really couldn't tell who was the better singer with the twin guys, but I thought they were both OK.
Yeah, I don't know why I watch it at the beginning. Well, nothing really else on I guess, but some of those people that really can't sing, how could they embarrass theirself on national TV like that?

The man that sounded just like a woman cracked me up. I did feel bad for him afterword, though, when he was out there bawling..... And when that one woman was dressed up as a cow, was pulling her udders.... I was rollin. She was only on there for a second, though.

They've resorted to hiring actors to do the bad auditions. I spotted a few of them last night. The one that really stands out is the guy with the glasses who did the rap for the judges. He used to have his own show on Comedy Central and does commercials for DiGiorno pizza. They must think we're ****ing idiots.

Finally! Some real competition tonight. Although I notice they're still using old Whitney songs. I wish they'd play the whole "Young Hearts Run Free" song from the '90s Romeo & Juliet movie. Now I can't stop singing it.
And I caught Paula & Ryan on Larry King just after AI aired, and the funniest thing happened:
Larry got Ryan talking about his metrosexual image, blah blah blah. And Paula somewhere chirped in asking Ryan about Botox, which he *of course* denied using. Then they move onto other subjects for a while, and the last phone call question went like this --
Larry: "Hello caller, what is your question?"
Male Caller: "Ryan, you just said that you don't get Botox injections. But what about BUTTOCK INJE?"
Larry cut the dude off very quickly.

I believe it is 6 & 6 this year, after that it's whoever the audience picks.
I think I remember hearing that with the initial 12 & 12, the audience will vote off 2 of each gender every week for a few weeks until it gets down to a total of 12. After that, it's the usual.
Also - NO audience OR judge wild card picks either this year. I don't think that's right.

So, there will be three weeks of semis? Guys on one night, girls on the other? I think this might be better because they will be singing more than once to stay in the game. However, not having the judge's picks is a bad idea. They usually pick the good ones.

I have that Asian girl's skirt, 2 versions. :D But I didn't feel sorry for her, unless she has some kind of learning disability or something. I mean, it's pretty basic to learn the lyrics. I must have missed it last night when they were explaining how they're going to cut the 20 who will leave tonight. Do they at least get to sing again before they're cut so they have another chance to impress the judges? Though I suppose the judges have seen enough to have already pretty much made up their minds.
I agree that last night was a good show, though Paula's fake crying when she was telling the groups they were through made me gag. After the first group it was pretty obvious which of the other groups were going to stay and which were going. There were a few people in the first group who could have gone through, I think. I like Anwar the best for the whole package, but Scott's voice is my favorite. I think the skinny white boy with glasses (the really blond guy) is going to win. That's my prediction from far out in left field. Anybody else have any guess on who has the best chance to win?

I think he's going to win too. I think he has a great voice plus he has the story of how he was supposed to lose his voice or something like that.
I thought the Jackie girl sang ok but I didn't think she was going to make it because she was just so emotional. Plus she's only 16 and she has many more years to try out again.
I like that there are 2 rocker guys in the finals but I don't think either will win. I like Constantine better.
Nobody likes Mario Vasquez?? He is HOT!
How about Carrie Underwood?? I think she's great. She reminds me of Kelly Clarkson.
I'm putting my bets on these two making it to at least the top five.
Also, where did all these guys come from?? They just decide to spring them on us last night? I've never even seen half of them before.

I was sad to see little Jackie Crum go.. I thought she had a nice voice but perhaps Simon felt she had too much baggage with her Mom and all. .
I was sad to see her go, too. I thought she was good...very young though. She should give it another try next year.

Top 12 if I were choosing (in no particular order):
Girls:
1. Nadia
2. Mikalah
3. Janay
4. Carrie
5. Vonzell
6. Celena
Guys:
1. Anwar
2. Anthony
3. Travis
4. Mario
5. Judd
6. Jared
I was not sad to see Jackie go--too much crying. She needs some time to mature. Her voice is great, so she should definitely come back in a couple of years.

Well, I think I'm going to have to retool my top 6 guys list after last night. Overall, I agree that this is the best group of guys they've ever had. Even the bad ones were not SO bad. No one was embarrassing, anyway.
Based on last night, I think Judd can go, Travis can go, David can go, and even Anthony can go. (That's 3 of the 6 I originally like best, though mostly because I thought Travis and Judd had nice smiles and Anthony reminds me of a cuter Clay.) Nikko can go too. Both he and Mario need to lose their hats if I'm ever going to vote for them. I didn't enjoy Mario's performance at all...I couldn't believe the judges loved it so much.
As for the best of last night, I liked Anwar (for choosing something not Stevie Wonder), Bo (for his voice), Constantine (for his song selection, even though he was a little "pitchy"), and Scott (because I love his voice even though he is hard to watch).
I can't wait to see tonight to find out how wrong I was about the girls.

Anyway, I really like Scott, despite the serial killer look. Anwar did well - but wtf was up with that jacket? It was quite distracting. I thought Mario & Bo's performances were the best. Ugh. Last night was such a boring watch for me. What were some of those guys thinking with their song choices? I was mostly bored to tears. And I usually LOVE male vocalists. I was impressed with Bo, though. The sound of his voice really stands out. It's completely unique compared to the others. Anthony has potential. I was pretty discouraged when Constantine was singing. He had some strange problem with tempo. There was one other who was great (but sang a crappy song), but I can't remember his name. The guy doing Elvis? He can screw off. I can't stand that phoney crap. JPL or whatever his name was from last season was the same way -- an absolute running gag that lasted way too long.

Janay choked so hard. My favorite by far is Carrie. Her voice is gorgeous.
Mickayla was so friggin annoying......that voice....she just took the act way too far with the "hey Randy" or whatever it was in the middle of the song. She is sixteen and trying to act 26.
I think that chick Lindsay has a pretty voice but her song choice last night sucked. At this point, there are a couple whom I would not mind losing.
Can someone tell me about new format? How many people will be cut tonight and for how many more weeks will they work it this way? I am not sure I like it....I think, perhaps, they changed it.. as the old system was flawed in the sense that if you had three top singers in the same group..only two could go through. At least this way...the judges can see who is pulling in the highest/lowest votes all at one time.
Still of fan of cute Constantine..although I think I like his "look" more than his voice. I feel like I should be rooting for Fedorav as he lives right up the road from Marissa and I but he was sort of boring the other night. I do think he has potential..sort of reminds me of a cuter Clay.

Mikalah - eh. At times I think she's cute & at other times she's intolerable. Jessica & Vonzell were decent.
The rest all blend together - Sarah, Melinda, Celena, Lindsey, Amanda. Blah. They can all go home, as far as I'm concerned. Janay was obviously nervous, she was shaking like a leaf. Hopefully she'll make it to prove she can do better, but who knows.

For the next 3 weeks: boys on one night, girls on the next. At the end of each show, the audience votes. The bottom two from each group get elimintated. So next week, it's 10 boys & 10 girls. The week after it's 8 & 8. When they get it down to 6 & 6, it's back to normal.
I actually like it this way - gives the audience more of a say in who makes it. Of course, if I don't like the results tonight, I'm sure I'll be singing a different tune tomorrow!

I like it this way too. It's easier to keep straight who is who. The people who don't get kicked off get more chances to sing, so we get to know them and really know who deserves to be in the top 12.

I think Carrie has a really good chance of winning the whole competition. She's a great singer, she's cute, and she seems to have a sweet personality. I also like Nadia and Aloha. They're different too. I hate when everyone just sings a power ballad type song.

Aloha & Carrie were amazing last night! When Carrie's first song started, I was like "no way, this can't be Tiffany!" And it was! Could've Been was one of my favorite songs at one time.
Girl, I pulled that song out when the show was over. I still love it! It's in my car now for the trips to campus. :)

"Jessica Sierra – Gawd, if I hear Jessica sing “Against All Odds” one more time, the last thing I’ll be looking at is the barrel of a gun. Actually, her song choice was a propos, because if Jessica wins, it WILL be against all odds. Kind of reminded me of a young Stevie Nicks or something – all she needs are some scarves on her mic stand."

Well I was relieved...none of my favorites went home. I think they were all good choices to go. I never realized how striking that Sara girl who left tonight was. Very exotic looking. She reminds me of someone but I can't put my finger on it. I'm suprised Janay didn't get voted off. I think she had the worst performance last night...but she really just seemed extrememly nervous. Hopefully she does better next week, I like her voice. The first girl that got voted off was a little...I don't know, kind of sore loser-ish? Saying she got voted off because she didn't get as much exposure as the others in the beginning. I don't know. Could be true I guess.

Yeah, Sara's gorgeous with those wide set blue eyes. I agree regarding Janay. Regarding the other "loser" the exposure thing may have played a part in her getting voted off but her song was blah. That was really what did it.

How can you watch all that ****?
Wouldn't you rather see the late, great Carmen Miranda perform that mad sprint of a number "Bambu Bambu" from the 1940 Down Argentine Way starring Betty Grable & Don Ameche? And what about her campiest, ditziest number in The Gang's All Here, "The Lady in the Tutti-Frutti Hat"? And I haven't even mentioned "Yi Yi Yi Yi" & "Chica Chica Boom Chic"!

Sarah was a sore loser, too. I wanted to just shake her or something. She just stood there like she was high and mighty and didn't deserve to go home. Well, if she would have made it tonight, she would have been gone next week. Sooner better than later, honey. Buh-bye. :wavey:

It was so strange. The contestants that leave are usually much more gracious.
What about that stunt they pulled on the guys? Having the front row all sit. Then bringing the back row up and 2 by 2 having them all sit. Then telling Judd he was out. That was quite the game. Who makes up that sh*t?

The funniest thing about the Dubya one is the "accessories" he is "wearing". In his shirt pocket are "Bad Guy Cards". His watch just says "Time to Cut Taxes". He's got a sign on his back "If found return me to the White House." In his left hand a book, "EZ Guide to Being Prez". In his right is "Super Hero Comics" And in his back pocket, "English as a Second Language"

Okay, yeah, back to business. :) While it's true that Melinda didn't get much exposure earlier in the show, neither did Aloha--I didn't know who either of them were before the other night. The difference was that Melinda's performance, song choice, and personality were forgettable, while Aloha stood out. I also didn't see much of Jessica, Lindsey, or Sarah early on, but maybe I just wasn't paying attention. I hope the people that get kicked off in the future are more gracious--I think this group was just pissed because they had to be the first off, the most unpopular. Being first off means they will be the first forgotten. They probably thought they could hang in there for a while and be maybe 5th most unpopular or something.
So, I think the audience did a good job this week. Some of the mediocre people are gone and all of the talent remains. I am already looking forward to next week. :D
