Did you guys not see my post waaay back in this thread about Constantine's stalking and restraining order?? I have a hard time rooting for him - and his double chin is distracting.....I wonder why the smokinggun.com hasn't dug up his dirt yet....

Dreams is on the radio right now!
No, I totally didn't see that. But now I want to...

Well, I'm not gonna make you dig thru 51 pages of this thread.....

One of the file clerks in our office - her cousin dated Constantine. They had a bad breakup and he stalked her, which then led to her filing a restraining order against him. The boy can sing, I'll give him that. But...eeewww w/ the creepy history. There's also a vid clip of him floating around on the internet - he was on Elimidate (or something like it), acting like a total dork!

Got this from another board. It was posted in the "Queen News" section.

I just watched a young 29 year old American Idol contestant named
Constantine Maroulis perform Bohemian Rhapsody - and absolutely destroy the
place with it. In a competition geared towards 15-25 year olds, he got a
standing ovation and Simon Cowell used the word "astounding" to describe the
performance, which I'd wholeheartedly agree with.

He did the first verse, and then the "Rock" section up until the end of the
song. Completely incredible. It wasn't Kareoke at all, he wasn't cabaret",
although his mannerisms were very theatrical, you didn't get a sense that he
was necessarily trying to be a "mock Freddie". It was legitimately powerful
and it stood up on its own (as far as i'm concerned).

I obviously do not know the details but people do have bad breakups all the time. Those type of personal things, where both people probably have two different takes on what really happened should not really affect whether he wins based on his talent. Scott obviously has not been THAT affected and he wacked his lady over the head with a phone. Much worse. I am not saying I do not understand, stalking is serious but there are degrees and he is still talented. That said, I like Carrie. She is boring but her voice is incredible. Constantine is good and getting better but the camera mugging is so friggin annoying. However, if he really hurt someone, he might not be a good candidate to win. Its just we all have skeletons of some sort, some worse than others.

cliffdweller
04-15-2005, 09:18 AM
Forgive me for saying this, but if you put Carrie's voice and showmanship into a less attractive girl's body, she'd be gone.

I don't know if I agree with this. I thought that too until I heard her sing "Alone" and "Love is a Battlefield" where she all but came out of herself. Although she butchered certain parts of Battlefield, her delivery and vocal strength were outstanding on those songs so I know there's a rocker lurking in her somewhere.

Unfortunately though, her heart is in country and I fear that if she wins it will be all country all the time. Ugh. But she's got vocal talent for sure.

Nadia thought about doing GYOW!

MTV (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1500184/20050414/index.jhtml?headlines=true)

I was thinking about [Fleetwood Mac's] "Go Your Own Way" and then I was like, "You know what? I feel passionate about this 'When I Dream' song, it's something people haven't heard before. And I want to show them that." It probably would have been, in most opinions, the right song to do, but as soon as I start thinking about what the judges want to hear, what's gonna make them like me, that's when I steer away and say, "I'm gonna make them appreciate the art."

Maybe the SG has not picked up on Constantine because he was never arrested? Was he charged with stalking? If someone sought a restraining order based on their perceived fear, they might not be able to find records like that so easily? I know the SG digs and digs to see what they can find on all the reality tv people.....I know someone dug up that God awful elimidate footage. He looks so ridiculous.
I dunno, but the guy should be judged based on his talent...unless he is a complete psycho all the time. I have had some bad fights with an Ex and probably could have charged him with stalking after he phoned me fifty times a day and showed up at my work. Once he found a new girltoy, he forgot all about me.
Either way, Constantine has stepped it up in the last three weeks and has been sounding great. Plus the girls seem to like the camera mugging, which I hate.

So, there's one in ever bunch.

-Last year, it was that JPL.
-The year before, it was that Army guy, family man (can't remember his name).
-Now, it's Scott.

None of them could/can sing worth poop, but they outranked many of the talent. This is highly annoying. Anwar DID have a bad performance this week, but when has Scott ever had a good week?? In my opinion, never.

I love Anwar's voice. I don't know what happened this week, but he is usually on the ball. I'm royally pissed at this infamation.

Scott stinks. He sounds like some drugged-out moron with lousy vocals, and Anwar is what he is -- an intellegent musical teacher/icon who might have had a bad day this week, as we all do.

What kind of backing does Scott have? How did he get it?

One thing's for sure... This elimination process has done American talent a disservice.

When it gets down to the final three, Bo, Constantine and Carrie..I am not going to know who to vote for. I like Vonzell but Carrie's pipes are better and Bo and Con have that sex appeal factor so I think she will go fourth.
I know Carrie is sort of drab but they can fix that up...look at Kelly Clarkson..she was shy and quiet on AI, now she is Miss Confident. Her voice is the best on the show though. Bo and Con have that extra something personality wise. I still think Constantine is smoking hot!

The only person voted off thus far this season that I thought could have won was Nadia. As mentioned, Scott is WELL past his prime. I think Americans keep voting for this nut job because they're afraid he'll snap and eat Simon. And, I'm not too impressed with Anthony. He reminds me of one of those annoying cruise ship/Disneyworld singers. I'm not a violent man, but EVEN I want kick his @$$! ABC will air a news special examining what the network called "explosive" allegations about the hit TV talent contest "American Idol."

The hourlong "Primetime Live" report by anchor John Quinones is scheduled for 10 p.m. EDT Wednesday, May 4.

Describing "American Idol" as a cultural phenomenon, ABC said it will "explore explosive claims about behind-the-scenes activities" at the show.

Details about the planned report were unavailable, an ABC News spokesman in New York said. A call seeking comment from Fox was not immediately returned Monday.

"American Idol," in its fourth season and one of television's top-rated programs, gives singers a shot at a record contract.

Judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul winnow the field down in the early rounds, with viewers then deciding on the finalists and the winner.

Past idols are Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard and Fantasia Barrino.

The show is valuable not only to Fox but to 19 Entertainment, which oversees recording deals for "American Idol" stars as well as merchandising, touring, sponsorship and movies.

While ratings have remained strong, there's been consistent fan grumbling about overloaded phone systems that have made it tough for some viewers to cast votes.

"American Idol" also has been shadowed by contestants who were bounced after they failed to disclose personal information.

Corey Clark, dropped from the show in 2003 after producers learned about a past arrest, reportedly is trying to sell a tell-all book about his experiences with the program.

Honestly, I don't think anyone did very well tonight. Thank God Amazing Race is on...I need to purge American Idol out of my system.

I feel like we've seen that same performance from Carrie 50 times already. I agree that Bo was awesome. Hideous shirt, but great performance. I actually liked Constantine's song choice, but like Randy said, his vocal was awful. His brother was sure freaky looking, wasn't he?

Get up off Carrie, Curtie!! I know she is pretty boring but I think her vocals are the best out of all the contestants. I think with some work...she would sound great when recorded.

Well, top 40 pop music these days bites. I thougt "Say You Will" was pretty good. I still love 2001's "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" by Wilco. It would have made my day to hear somebody sing "Jesus, etc." U2's "All You Leave Behind" was pretty good. I would have blown away with a cover of "Beautiful Day." But then, I'm sure most of those albums were out of their reference points.

hayley

Music today doesn't bite. The music made for popular consumption bites. It's so rare that a *good* mainstream album shows up, which is why I personally get excited when something shows up like Kelly Clarkson's album, which perfectly commercial yet perfectly GOOD- and solid.

Despite the lack of great popular music, there are so many awesome records and artists out there. I get so tired of people complaining about music today. There are absolutely amazing artists in every genre, there's something for everyone, and the Internet and alternative media make it easier than ever to find it.

About AI- I stopped watching AI a month or so ago, and it seems like I haven't missed much at all. I am glad Nadia's gone, though. I know that's an unpopular opinion, but as someone who watched only from the Top 12 on, I found her really unlikable and arrogant. Every week I saw her, she seemed to get worse and more out there.

I think the top 12.

I can't believe Constantine is gone. Even though he wasn't a great singer, he was a good performer. And he actually sang a few songs really well. I think he would do well in theather because he's so dramatic and he sings those types of songs well. He wasn't my favorite so I'm not too upset. I still want Bo to win and Scott needs to go. Well, as has been noted, there seems to be at least one crap singer that holds on every season. There was Nikki in AI-1 and Josh in AI-2. I didn't watch AI-3, as the NHL wasn't on strike, and was busy watching Center Ice on the satellite instead. Sorry, but after suffering through that goofy spin-off, American Juniors, I pretty much swore off AI altogether. Anyway, with Scott, I think people feel sorry for him, as he keeps talking about how he's had a hard life and has a kid, without actually seeing him for what he is as a performer.

Bo and Connie really need to tone down their mic stand theatrics. It is just pathetic the way they twirl those microphone stands up in the air. If you need something to do with your hands learn how to play an instrument, don't become a laughing stock waving a 1/2 pound mic stand in the air like a baffoon. It is just plain tacky at this point. They need to be a little more subtle with their "rock star" theatrics. I am so glad Connie is gone now so I only have to deal with one faux rocker.

Josh the stinker from Season 2?, PLEASE SPARE ME. Hes had TWO top 10 country hits. His last hit was in the NUMBER ONE SPOT on the country charts last month. That is BILLBOARD. He wasnt my favorite, but who else besides the Ruben/Clay have had a #1 hit?

The stinker from Seaon 2 was that god awful blonde girl from Salt Lake City, not Kimberely Caldwell, the other blonde. Remember she was JUST HORRIBLE week after week, and was somehow able to hang out. Last year it was John Stevens the red head that SUCKED week after week, but managed to beat out other good people. This seasons stinker is Scott. God I cant stand him, his fake ghetto accent, he didnt get that from his parents.

Girl, I know where you live! A little soap and the boy would clean up just fine~ He certainly was way better than Scott and Anthony and should have outlasted them! Scott got a ton of sympathy votes after Simon's "pack your bag" comment. I am bummed....although now it makes room for a fab Bo /Carrie final. Personally, I thought Simon wanted Constantine in the finals, so it would happen either way. It is not like that voting cannot be manipulated. Ah, well, I am sure Simon will sign him anyway and now he won't be locked into that awful AI deal that the winners are.

I'd love to see just him, singing and accompanying himself on his guitar...maybe a little NGBA would be nice. :) I wonder if they'd let him play for himself if he asked. The week he did Time in a Bottle would have been the perfect opportunity.

The blonde was Carmen Rumassen or something. I agree -- she was an awful performer and hung on for weeks. Stevens was horrible as is Scott. There is simply nothing appealing about Scott. His personality sucks as much as his voice.

You do realize that a #1 on the country charts is meaningless compared to the Hot 100 or Top 40?

If we're just talking radio numbers, let's use an example. The current #1 on the most recent country charts is the Brooks & Dunn song. It got the most spins out of any other country song- approximately 4,500, to be exact. Whereas the #1 single on the Hot 100, Candy Shop, had THREE TIMES that amount of spins across the country. Have other AI contestants besides Ruben & Clay been as successful or more successful than Josh Gracin? Uh, YES. He's found a niche, and that's cool for him, and he's done better than I imagine most thought he would, but his success still isn't near a lot of the other former contestants. Although none of them has had the kind of success that would measure up to the scope of the sheer number of people watching American Idol, of course, including the winners, although Kelly Clarkson's success is fascinating.

My mom was so pissed about Constantine. She left me a five minute voice mail (I work on AI nights, and she calls me to let me know what happened on my cell phone voice mail). I never cared for him, but she loved him.

I actually don't want Bo to win because I think it will ruin him. I mean, really, he'll probably get crap songs to sing and I'm sure that he probably likes to write his own songs, which I'm sure won't happen if he's under contract with AI.

Someone really cheesy like Anthony should win so he can continue to sing the gawd awful songs he continues to choose to sing week after week. Or even someone like Vonzell or Carrie because I think they would fit that "pop" mold very well.

I thought Carrie and Bo had solid performances. Notice how they never have to say anything after being critiqued. I think I know who the final two will be. Frankly, I wish they could tie and work as a duet. I think their voices would probably work well together.

Vonzel was okay, but I really wasn't blown away. Her voice is solid, but I think her personality is what sells her songs. And, in pop music, personality trumps talent.

Scott was lame. Good lord, his ego is bigger than his gut. He's in a serious state of denial if he thinks he's going to win. I had a great laugh when they showed the recap of him singing "On Broadway." I hope he gets another week, just for the comic relief.

Anthony was just plain awful. It was painful listening to this kid. Anthony will have a very successful career singing on a Carnival boat.

Who should be voted off? Anthony.
Who will likely be voted off? Vonzel.

I kind of know what to expect from her at this point, and that takes some of the fun out of it. That's what I liked about Bo, Constantine and Nadia. I never knew what they were going to sing or how. He also had a couple of voicemails saved that basically said don't say anything to any reporters. The calls were very frequent and some were long, one was 111 minutes. I think that Corey is telling the truth but I don't think it was necessary to drag her through the dirt in this way. Although it seems she dropped him like a hot potato when the show did. I think he was deeply hurt by that, I don't know. He definitely has an agenda to sell his new album, for sure. But I think he's telling the truth.

So we need a new thread, who will be the next American Idol judge? I believe this will be Paula's last season.

I believe it's her last season as well. If the shows producers were intelligent (as I believe they are), they'd recruit someone else in order to save the show. I do agree Corey has an agenda with picking now to reveal the affair. He's no dummy.

Well, they can go from one washed up pop star who can't sing to another--Britney Spears. I wouldn't be surprised.

Look at how the Daily Show can get somebody who is a dead ringer for Laura Bush to make a lewd joke about the President jerking off two horses. So much of his evidence could have easily been manufactured. Consider this. What if Paula lost her cell phone and Cory found it? He could easily get her number. To find the names of the dogs, all he would need to do is overhear a conversation with Paula. I know I've had to be on the phone with somebody regarding my dogs before, and I know I was overheard. The thing I find suspicious is that the medicine bottle that was shown said "Paula Abdul." I don't know why, but I find it very difficult to believe that a celebrity of her stature would be using her real name in obtaining medicine. That was just a little too fishy.

As for the other contestants, let's be honest. None of them had a chance in hell of beating Ruben or Clay. Any one of those folks would have only lasted a week or two in the top twelve. While I feel bad for them, they need to get real.

Stature being coked-up-washed-up-pill-popping-idol-judge?

I don't think she ever thought he'd say anything at all. You can't deny the phone bills either. I think she screwed up royally and is going to end up having to pay for it by loosing her job. While I think the way he came out about the affair was rather ****ty, I don't doubt it happened.

I don't know if he is being completely honest but even if he is I seriously doubt that they will fire Paula... it would be the begining of the end for American Idol if they got rid of her. It is like getting rid of Suzzane Somers on Three's Company. Well maybe not that bad, but you get the idea.

If they need a replacement... hmm how about Stevie? LOL! Or Mick Fleetwood!

Cher's just played her final, final, and-I-really-mean-it-this-time, show of her 3-year farewell tour. She's available!

Yeah, my "first initial feeling" is that Cory's being honest. I thought his parents were quite convincing too. And look at it this way - assuming it IS true - Paula only did what male judges have been doing to beauty pageant contestants since the dawn of time...so she got a little somethin' somethin' from a 22-year old hottie, good for her, I say!

I think this Corey has quite a bit of hard proof that this happened. We have phone records, eyewitnesses, voicemail recordings, prescription bottles, receipts...etc etc. I assume that there is some part of Paula's contract that bars her from sleeping and fraternizing with the contestants. I would say AI will have no choice but to fire her. Personally, I do not think she should be fired...it is not like she helped him get further in the competition...he was thrown off! The audience voted him through the first few rounds....What did she really do to help him? Not much.

BTW..a few years ago, there was a prescription bottle of Stevie's on ebay...it had her name on it...Stephanie Nicks. If I remember correctly, it was for an asthma medication. The add said that a maid found it in a hotel room used by Stevie, in NY, I think? So, apparently, celebs do use their real name on prescriptions.

I fell asleep during Primetime last night, so I can't comment on all his evidence. I agree that his timing is very suspect, and I also think that Paula could have chosen a much more attractive boytoy. Just think, she had hundreds of thousands of contestants to choose from and she picked him? She really does have issues! *shudder*

Poor Scott is dumb as dirt. I'm glad he's gone, but I have to feel a little bad for him for so obviously falling for the couch thing.

Part of me feels this way too. I thought the interviewer was pushing things that he wouldn't have had Paula been a man but that's another thread entirely. I think he's being honest, I think Paula has some serious emotional issues and she sort of preyed on this young man, but I really don't think he should have gone public with it like this. Maybe I am wrong but what's private should remain private IMO. On the other hand, maybe this is the push Paula needs to get her act together. I still think she's out but we'll see.

I just cannot BELIEVE the amount of hype that surrounded that interview. I mean my God, I haven't heard that much hype since Monica Lewinsky was interviewed by Barbara Walters back in the day. Good gracious!

My dad and I watched the interview, and while Corey is obviously using this as a golden opportunity to sell a handful of CDs, I do believe he is telling the truth. The evidence speaks volumes. I highly doubt Paula will be back next season. If she really did tell Corey to choose that Journey song because she knew that it would make an impression on Randy; then she directly affected the outcome because that was the last song he sang before heading to the final 16, right?

PS, BO ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!

I watched about half of the program this morning, and saw him and his parents very briefly on GMA... I have no doubts whatsoever that Paula did what they're saying she did, but- I just don't care. At all.

I find him so distasteful, cheap, and opportunistic. His parents, specifically his father, pissed me off as well on GMA. Their attitude, and Corey's, seemed to just be so focused on taking advantage of the situation. Sure, what Paula did was wrong, but it's not like Clark was damaged or hurt or had his career impacted negatively by it. What does he have to complain and freak out about? All I could think while I was watching him talk was wondering how much ABC paid them.

I totally don't care about what Paula did. The show is such bull**** anyways. A good friend of mine is close with a contestant that made it into the top 12 in the first season (someone I went to college with), and the stories about what happened with that show even in the first season are insane.

I'm positive Paula will be back next season. I don't think the powers that be are even going to look into this silliness. They are smart enough to know that if Paula leaves they can kiss their ratings success goodbye. It just wouldn't be the same with different judges at this point and I think people would tune out. If the Fox Network is smart they won't pay any attention to this and just thank their lucky stars for the free publicity ABC is giving them.

I don't know about that. Paula is the least interesting judge, imo. I think if Simon went the ratings might go down. I actually wish they would replace Paula, she's boring and she never has anything very constructive to say.

I too am confident that Paula will be back. People can say all that want that it is Simon who makes the show, but in reality, it the dynamics of all 3 judges that make the show. Corey Clark is saying he won't help Fox in their investigation to help prove his allegations. Hmmm, we wonder why  Nigel is behind Paula so, there really isn't anything left to do. One would think that if Corey wanted to be taking seriously and look more credible, he would provide them with information.

Also, about the phone message that Paula allegedly left for Corey. Doesn't anyone else find it odd that, that is the only message they used to "prove" their case? That message didn't prove a thing. If you listen to it again, Paula's tone is that of someone who is offering advice. "Hi it's Paula. Listen, if the press is trying to talk to you, you just say nothing, that is all you do." It makes much more sense that Paula left that message for Corey two years ago after he got kicked off the show. She was consoling him in a way. That call was not recent, as ABC is trying make it seem. The call was also taken out of context. It's the only clip they are playing. If in fact it was proof of any wrong doings, then why not play that clip from start to finish? Also, remember what happened to Paris Hilton recently? Her cell phone info was hacked into. It wouldn't even surprise me if Paula left that message for someone else and it got leaked somehow. It's not that far fetched. But if it was a call to Corey, it most certainly had nothing to do with him speaking out now; it is an old message that proves nothing. Corey Clark is nothing short of pathetic.

I'm intrigued by what was up with her, too. Her first number was good, but her second on blew me away. She really stepped it up. Hopefully Anthony's luck has run out.....BUT I thought he was a lot better than Bo tonight. Both of Bo's songs were bland and boring. Even though I thought Bo was worst, Ant should go because he has been a bore since the top 12. As for Carrie, she was alright. Her second song blew major chunks.

I thought overall last night's show was the worst one this season. The song choices stunk! At this point in the competition, why not let them sing whatever the hell they want so they can really shine in their strong areas???

I didn't think Carrie's second song was as bad as the judges thought. Makes me wonder if they panned her song to keep the competition competitive and step up the suspense since it's so obvious that she's going to win this thing. I wouldn't doubt it. Carrie did no worse than Anthony and all three judges were praising him all night.

I thought Bo's second song was great. He needs to keep it at that level the next two weeks.
