"Tuesday's Dead" - Cat Stevens
From Teaser And The Firecat. I've been huge on Cat Stevens since I saw Darren Cooper perform "Peace Train: The Cat Stevens Story" two weeks ago! That was my second favourite concert behind Unleashed - quite an accomplishment, considering it wasn't actually Yusuf! Anyway, I was already quite a big fan of the Cat, but after that concert I bought the Deluxe Editions of Tea For The Tillerman and Teaser And The Firecat, despite both being a crippling $32 each! (I've never bought albums above $20 unless they were a gift for someone else.) Even my stepdad David, who never seemed very interested in Cat Stevens, bought TVBOCS (CD + DVD) the day after the concert, even though I owned Remember Cat Stevens, which is very similar! :D

Kind of a tribute concert, right ?
I absolutely love Cat Stevens. Have you seen Harold and Maude ? Cause you should. Cat did the soundtrack. Such a passionate artist, and Tea for the Tillerman gotta be one of my favourite albums ever.

It was like a tribute concert - Darren Cooper talked about Cat's early life and a bit about why he gave up his music for so many years... and sung Cat's songs (beautifully), of course! :D I spent most of the first half of it quietly crying (happily, naturally)! :o I absolutely loved it!

Speaking of PG, is "Another Day" available as a proper studio recording? I have had it as a bootleg for eons and I have always loved, loved it. And the video is just gasp-worthy- two of the greatest English singers ever in the prime of their youth and musical chops.

There were lots of songs that got me weeping, but what really finished me off was "Father And Son" - all I held back then was my voice... actually, if only I held it back! At the end of the song lots of people were clapping and cheering Darren off stage, and a few called out... sadly, including me. I was so chocked up (let alone that I usually have a deep voice anyway) that my "WOOOOO!" sounded much more like a "BOOOOO!" :distress: I didn't dare cheer after he came back on for the second half!

I am obsessed with The Moody Blues at the moment! (Remember it's Justin Hayward, "the voice of 'Nights In White Satin'", singing this song.) They're threatening to replace Bryan Ferry & Roxy Music as my second favourite artist! I want to buy so many of their albums! The only problem is that I'd have to order most of them in from the UK to get the 2008 remasters... :( That could take so long if Kiln House and Penguin are anything to go by. Here's an awesome Agents of Oblivion song called "Endsmouth" - it was inspired by the Neil Gaiman story "Only the End of the World Again," wherein the main character (a claims adjustor and werewolf) happens to be in Innsmouth whilst some of the townsfolk are attempting to raise up an Elder God or two.

So basically, it's like a big nerdgasm for me, what with the Dax Riggs, and the Gaiman and the Lovecraft. Ia!

But even if you care not for Dax Riggs, Gaiman or Lovecraft (in which case, I think we're going to have to have a serious chat about our "relationship," but hey, whatever floats your boat), it's still a damn fine song:

Children of Bodom - "Everytime I Die"

I like listening to this with headphones on, waiting til 0:18 hits, and then shouting "YYYYYOW!" really loud along with it. It never fails to startle at least one person in my immediate area! Fun for the whole family!

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-XNwjIUzVn4&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-XNwjIUzVn4&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Bonus: Children of Bodom cover "Rebel Yell." It's the vocalist, Alexi Laiho, straining to provide unaccented clean vox that really make this for me, for some reason. It's so cute.

Finland is just chock full of epic win, y'all.

I just listened to SPLHCB in full, and am now listening to The Beatles (White Album). I can understand how many would consider SPLHCB to be their favourite album. Agreed. After all, it's a concept-album, so you have to listen to it in its entirety to appreciate it. That's what I love about it, and that's also what I "don't like" about it (I still enjoy this album, and it's one of my favourites). Not so long ago, I bought Abbey Road, and it became my favourite Beatles-album. It's beautiful, and George Harrison shines on it, with his two little songs, that turned out to be some of their best : Something and Here comes the Sun.

Christine McVie - i just got the album on vinyl a couple days ago and it's already made its way into my list of favorite albums ever. I've always liked the CD, but the whole, authentic sound on a turntable just made me fall in love. Each song is gorgeous, and there's no fillers!
"The Smile I Live For" makes me cry...i love it so much
and "One in a Million" is so funky - i love it! Other favorites are "The Challenge", "So Excited", and "Love Will Show Us How"

Out of curiosity, do the quality of SACDs significantly differ from good CD remasters? And how about compared to DVD audios?

Sorry I missed your question!

The quality of sound can be amazingly different if your sound system is good.
The problem with 5.1 SACDS or DVD Audio Disc is the mix. Most sound odd
because most don't know how to mix music for realistic 5.1 sound. Pink Floyd's
type music seems to be one exception. Dark Side of the Moon was great in 5.1 and
I only wish they'd release The Wall that way.

Now if it's 2 channel hi-resolution sound from SACD's or DVD Audio I actually
think most people would prefer this option (Rumours' DVD Audio has this option)
they sound great and natural.

One day I popped in a Bob Dylan CD, and I was listening from another room.
All of the sudden it struck me, wow that sounds pretty good. I went back in
the listening room and the disc player said SACD. I'd forgot that particular CD
was a SACD and I could tell the difference from another room. So yes, there
can be a big difference.

Fair enough then. Mind, I don't have a SACD player, and neither do I have a stereo setup - I listen to most of my music with earphones nowadays with my Sony CD Walkman (screw MP3, the lossy, proprietary format it is). I could use the earphones for DVD audio on my laptop (the speakers aren't exactly special), or just play it on the DVD player through the TV. Anyway, cheers for the info! :)
Btw, I'm listening to "Forever Autumn" by Justin Hayward... so beautiful... actually, it's a song I associate with a girl I loved (not that she knew that... I think) about two years ago... it's a happy memory, even if the song suggests otherwise. :)

Leon Russell's "first album" (the Blue one)....with "Delta Lady", "A Song For You", "Roll Away The Stone" etc. The one with Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, George Harrison, Ringo, Dave Mason, Delaney & Bonnie & Friends (most of whom became "Derek & The Dominos") and a few lesser known Rolling Stones backin' him up. You know...THIS one:

Personally, I think it's really too much of a good thing. I'll have to listen to it again when I get chance.

On the aforementioned Leon Russell CD, there's a bonus track with Leon, Eric Clapton, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts & Mick Jagger playing an early run through of a LEON RUSSELL composed song called "I Can't Seem To Get A Line On You"...which was released on Exile On Main Street as a JAGGER/RICHARDS tune called "Shine A Light". So, can anyone tell me how Leon got shut out of composer credits on the Stones album? (from what I've read, that's the exact reason Mick Taylor quit the band...he wrote a bunch of stuff and never got songwriter credits.)

Oliver - Good Morning Starshine (abbreviated)

"Hair" (the motion picture, based on the famous musical) was on HBO today, which got me to thinking... is there any other musical that spawned as many Top 40 chart hits as "Hair"? Its got to be an unprecedented record. I mean...

"Easy To Be Hard"
"Good Morning Starshine"
"Aquarius"
"Hair"

Definitely a touchstone of late 60's pop, regardless.

stuff such as "For All Tid" & "Stormblåst" which are also sung in their native Norwegian.

I recommend Darkthrone if ya like ol' Dimmu Borgir, ya gotta love when Black Metal & PUNK are combined for a unique sound...And Darkthrone does that to the hilt.
