Hey Mel,

Yes, it was really a beautiful service for sure. And yes... a Dad is something that you can't replace. My heart goes out to his family and fans..and especially those beautiful children..

Hugs,

Lindsey was singing on the "We Are The World" in 1985, but then a lot of celebrities were too. Whenever something like this happens or when there is something big going on in the music world, everyone seems to think that Stevie will be participating in it some how. What can you do about Rumours????

I always wondered why Stevie wasn't present at the 'We Are The World' session. She was pretty big then. Maybe she was asked, and we just don't know. Then again, maybe MJ was intimidated by her because she was friends with Prince. But that doesn't hold any water though, because Sheila E was at the recording and she was definately Team Prince.

I think the organizers were very worried that, with Lindsey already participating, a strange scenario would unfold in which Stevie would tell Lindsey that he was dragging down the entire project by putting himself first; followed by Lindsey screaming at Stevie, "Get this schizophrenic bitch out of my life," & so on & so forth.

Imagine the looks of shock & dismay on the faces of Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Ray Charles (well, not Ray Charles), Bette Midler, Kim Carnes, Bruce Springsteen & the others as they watched Stevie & Lindsey chase each other out the studio door & into the parking lot.

I've heard she was in fact asked but she would only do it if they could guarantee her a solo part instead of being in the background choir (like Lindsey) they could'nt guarantee that she would be singing solo so she decided not to do it.
I wish I could remember where I read that.

Her name is Orianthi. This is her myspace if anyone is interested in having a listen.
Having seen her live with Stevie Vai, I am certainly impressed with her skills.

That was a flashback to We Are the World. LB was not part of the memorial.

But it's a better theory than the "Lindsey was already invited" one.

I remember a DJ read a new in the radio, back in 1985, telling Prince didn't accept to join the USA for Africa team, then he learned most of singers did, so he was kind of embarrased and contact MJ offering him a guitar solo in any of the songs of the album side b. But Michael answered No thanks, we don't need your help anymore.

Though wikipedia mentions "Michael Jackson was to be paired with Prince, but Prince was a no-show for the recording, so Jackson was paired with Diana Ross instead.", I never could confirm this story completely through a reliable source.
