In fact, YMLF and “Sentimental Lady” were on the charts at the same time. YMLF peaked on Dec. 17, 1977 and SL peaked on Jan. 7, 1978.

Just a thought. Thriller had 7 singles. I don't know if it's because I'm a fan but I could release 7 singles from Rumours.

However there is another example what made Rumours such a great album. The Chain and Gold Dust Woman are 2 main plays on classic rock stations. Everyone knows them yet they were never singles. Many of The Rolling Stones biggest hits were never released as singles. They became hits the same way The Chain and GDW became hits. The album was so good radio dug in and played other songs. It sort of happened with the White album too. World Turning and Landslide got some serious radio play. However looking back I sort of see why the record company stopped. The Mac was already laying tracks for their next album and did not want to burn out the audience. Madonna's record company had that issue. Like A Virgin was already finished and ready for release but her prior album was still charting. They stopped and immediately released Like A Virgin and the audience embraced the saturation. However Madonna is not a good example because she broke all the norms.

And by October that year the Spirits Having Flown singles started to appear. And I don't forget all the songs where they were involved those years. Samantha Sang, Andy Gibb, Yvonne Elliman, etc. I love the Bee Gees but I was over saturated those years.

True or False The Bee Gees had a great career after disco died in 1980.

Their influence as songwriters continued for at least another five years or so. And, after VH-1 started focusing on classics in the mid ‘90s, their ‘60s stuff -especially “To Love Somebody”- started being revisited. Before they started dying off, they were a massive concert act. Their trajectory -factoring in Andy Gibb- wasn’t dissimilar to Fleetwood Mac’s. Some ‘60s success, absolutely dominant late ‘70s success, still relevant into the ‘80s (as successful songwriters for other artists, including their brother), and then an incredibly in-demand oldies act towards the end. They were never at risk of not getting work.

![]() They were never a disco band but became super stars in the disco era. Was it not Saturday Night Fever that knocked Rumours out of the top spot. They were huge and all disco acts suffered the same fate. I am not trying to prove you wrong because that is not needed. You provided songs post SNF that you claim still had them successful. Yet those songs were still in the disco era. Their career came to a screeching halt. You dont remember the interview with them in the early and mid 80s how frustrated they were? They ruled the charts. Now you are moving the goal post "never at risk of getting work." Oh I am sure they still got work and other artists used them behind the scenes but none of their music was charting and like most disco acts they sort of disappeared. Of course in the 1990s the 1970s came back and then they became a big touring act again like many 1970s acts. You failed the exam Steve. The answer to the question was false. They did not have a great career post disco. The Bee Gee's albums were the first in the bonfire in the disco sucks movement. Being relevant is not the same as having a great career or anywhere close to what they had in the 1970s. Not sure why this is disputed. But I hope you have a good Friday and great weekend ![]()

I loved Island In The Stream when I heard it. I didn't know the BG wrote it. They don't sing in the chorus, do they? I was surprised to learn later that it was their song.
For several years, I didn't hear anything from them, except for one or two singles, nothing relevant in Peru. The antibodies were still present on the radio. But when I saw the One Night Only concert video, it was extraordinary. I thought, oh that will always be a great band.
