Your comments about the kiss were spot on- it was done purely for shock value. I also think it was Madonna’s attempt to “stay relevant” and it succeeded, something Stevie has done too, though mostly in words, not actions. At the same time, even though I totally agree the kiss was for shock value, I have to admit, it may have helped open the door for showing gay people kissing on tv. I remember all too well when gay folks could only look longingly at each other or hug, or when the camera would cut away just as they were about to kiss. A double edged sword, I guess.

So what then of Stevie at 55 not being supportive of women kissing on stage but at age 72 singing “see my lips on her mouth.” Stevie went where the wind went which is where Sheryl Louis management told her where to go. Would she have said what she said about Lil Nas X kissing people on stage at age 55 too? Or was it only women she has a problem with kissing?
Madonna kissed women in the 80s and even performed oral sex with women in the book, Sex in her 30s. Vanilla Ice left her because of that. And if you watch Justin Timberlake’s face during the 2003 VMA kiss, he was disgusted or angry. Stevie at 55 was not progressive.
