Going with my theory that the song is about Stevie an not Kristen..magic one would be Stevie as Stevie has always been associated with magic, spirits, fairies etc... New born eyes would be his description of how Stevie sees Lindsey now that he's married has kids and has moved on with his life with his family...her eyes are now open to his new life. If the song is about Kristen why would he tell her to "''keep yourself out of sight" he's telling Stevie to stay away and let him be happy with his family and dance on his cast away dreams...but he doesn't want her to completely go away because he tells her to sleep and dream of him...if he was talking about weed he would not tell it to dream about him...because as you know that's not possible. ![]() I'm sorry. That's just funny to me. I've heard this interpretation before but I can't see it at all.

Everytime I have heard him talk about the argument he and Kristen had, he said that Kristen went back to L.A after the argument, and he stayed in the hotel room alone and ended up writing Cast Away Dreams. |

![]() Actually, I'm a little bummed. I thought I was the first to come up with that theory ![]()

I think when he says "keep yourself out of sight" he is talking about himself. Taking some time to himself to say goodbye to his castaway dreams. And maybe newborn is more like "new born" eye. Not a baby, but his new outlook once he has cast aside his dreams?
Regardless, I think the song is written for Kristen and not Stevie, since Lindsey has flat out said this. There may be Stevie in the song, but I think he's writing it to Kristen about their fight and what ever he agreed to give up (dreams of solo fame, Stevie, pot, maybe a combo of all three). But since he has come out and said he wrote the song after a fight with Kristen, I don't see how it could be written to Stevie. |

I have no idea re. the first part. I don't care enough to dig that deeply into it. It sounds right, but I honestly don't recall. However, I do recall him saying that she went back to L.A., while he stayed in his hotel. If she did, they can still talk. They have phones for that. I'm sure he could play her a song over the phone too.

Maybe I read your interpretation before? I think it's highly creative and entertaining though!

And I just watched his description again, just now, on Bass Hall. He describes it as "...holding on to a dream, an idea, a goal." His whole demeanor, as well as his words clearly sound like it's more career related. Maybe that dream was BN, or maybe it was a different kind of solo career...or both ![]()

![]() it would be boring if everybody had the same opinion, and it just shows how interesting lyrics are if everyone draws different conclusions from them. plus, we are discussing a meaning of LB's solo song in a Rumours forum thread discussing the album that had a lot of LB's solo material on it, but that song was not a part of that solo material predating SYW! i for one am happy about that!! about being offended by someone constructively contributing to a discussion, it goes both ways. in my experience (being thrown out of various BN boards and blocked by various shippers on twitter ), it seems that at least a good number of shippers are way too easily offended if someone states any opinion that doesn't agree with their theories and speculations. ![]() going back to Cast Away Dreams, who knows, people who think it's about ending Stevie/Lindsey affair may be right... but i think the problem with that interpretation is that it's based on the premise that they actually HAD an affair during SYW tour. if they didn't - well, it's a house of cards. my interpretation is built primarily on Bass Hall / Not Too Late doc. that whole doc is going in circles around his solo career options and choices. many songs on UTS are about that too - think Not Too Late as the most blatant example. so to me the interpretation i talked about was just a complete non-brainer, something that logically flowed from Bass Hall / Not Too Late doc. but that may not be the only interpretation and i don't think it is, otherwise LB wouldn't make a point n that interview you quoted about how his lyrics are not as literal as they used to be by citing example of that song. and, you never know, Lindsfan may be closer to the truth than we think with that weed interpretation .
