I guess I'm just not a true fan then.
Would it have killed her to bring one or two of the hundreds of demos she has in the vaults and feature them on Crystal Visions? If she simply has nothing to write about anymore (and I have little doubt that she does), then why not grab a producer that she's comfortable with, one that she's worked with before (say, oh John Shanks), get into the studio and lay down some vocals. Would it have been just too much work for the mad songwriter? It would have made the package that much nicer for the fans and would have kept her relevant and fresh. She could have brought those two songs on tour with her and still do all the songs that are within her comfort zone. It would have been a new artistic expression, it would have differentiated the tour from the GD tour, and would have been a reason to actually hit the road in the first place. But no, she couldn't even do that. Whatever happened to the song she wrote about Hurricane Katrina? It took her one year to write and record "Illume (9/11)", so why after 4 years, can she not put her thoughts regarding Katrina into a new track? It's not as if "Illume" was some kind of masterpiece or anything that took her years of tweaking to get just right. In 2002, she was able to put together 10 tracks for SYW, but yet has not been able to put out a single track for 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, or 2009. There's no excuse for that, in my opinion. It's fine if she doesn't want to record anymore, but then she shouldn't tour either. But if she really wants to tour without promoting new material, then at least mix it up, play some rare stuff, change the arrangement a bit, do something different. Four live covers in 5 years is just not going to cut it.
I really believe this Unleashed Tour is Fleetwood Mac's version of Stevie's Crystal Visions Tour. It has that same "been there, done that" feel to it. I'm sure it was her idea, just as I'm sure Lindsey would have much preferred to tour off a new album. But he probably felt that his hands were tied and I think he probably really does believe that this tour can hopefully lead to them making a new studio album together. I have little doubt that she is the one who is holding the band back from putting out new material, since it is clear that Lindsey can pump out the new stuff as quickly as he wants to as long as he has a forum to do so.
