more stage time for Stevie?? No annoying guitar player to compete for attention or storytelling time.

I keep remembering how she arranged (her team) to have a Rolling Stone cover story about HERSELF during the midst of a Mac tour last time.

Sister worries about herself and no one else.

She has always had narcissistic tendencies but now it is her primary trait.

I don’t think she had much say in the Rolling Stone thing... if she had that much influence over RS, she would have gotten a cover when she did IYD. I think they gave her the opportunity while promoting 24 KG and it would have been insane not to take it.

You could remove Stevie Nicks and add Pat Benatar and Fleetwood Mac would be more interesting.
Hell 2 Da Naw

Either Bonnie Raitt, whose blues playing and gravely but dynamic voice would have been a great fit for the band, or Susanna Hoffs, who I think sounds like a younger Stevie and would probably have a really good chemistry with Lindsey, would have been my choices.

Hello everybody, long time no see...
I've been absent for a very long time. In the middle we had a new EP, which I didn't liked so much, Lindsey playing with Dave Grohl and company in the Grammy's, which performance was cut in the middle of the song, and a wonderful work of Lindsey and Christine, which is simply that, fantastic.
Now I returned from a long travel, and the first thing I read is that Lindsey is no longer with Fleetwood Mac. He will release a new album, I don't know if it's true, but he's not with the band anymore. Why? I don't know. Suddenly, I feel that we're simply living what happened between Tango In The Night and Time, between 1987 and 1995. New members, new tour, Stevie Nicks and Christine still on the road, but we don't know for how much time. I don't like what is happening. It's ok with Cambell and Neil Finn, but I don't like it.
Oh, I remember that Stevie Nicks refused to release a new album with the band because of her solo career, and that's why Lindsey released with Christine a very special album...
I'm not angry with Fleetwood Mac. I'n angry with Mick Fleetwood.
RIP Fleetwood Mac, once again.

When a singer/ musician passes away, their fans listen to their music in memory of them. That's what I've been doing in recent days........and marvelling at just how much LB gave to the unique sound of Fleetwood Mac. Thankfully, he's still very much alive........but something wonderful has certainly died. RIP indeed.

you're right, it does have that feeling like a death..... in ways it didn't during any previous departures (Lindsey, Christine)

To lighten the mood, someone is suggesting that they should replace Lindsey with Bill Hader's LB impression from SNL

the fact that the band as I've loved it no longer exists, because of treachery behind the scenes, yes, feels like a sort of death.

You're welcome to feel differently.

I do feel differently. I know what death feels like. Having a child die, or a parent, or a spouse or good friend die, yes, that is beyond words.

Someone I don't know, have never met, and have never spoken to gets fired from a rock band. Yes, it definitely feels different than death. For me, anyway. Maybe I'm made of different stuff.

meanwhile, some people cannot fathom or process themselves that someone they considered an icon is just not.... well let;s say.... a very nice person. i know that's hard and disappointing. but it is what it is, and very sad.

i so wanna just sit back, have some caramel popcorn, and watch this chimeric version of FM implode.

Hey, if a millionaire you've never met gets fired from a rock band and that feels the same to you as a child dying, that is totally your right. I definitely won't tell you how to process your grief, especially for a man you've never met, who's got a beautiful, by all accounts healthy family, a successful career that's ongoing, with an album ready for release anytime, and plenty of money that he'll probably never have to work again. If despite all that, you think his firing from a band is equal to a child's death, that's your right.

Sigh. When did reading become optional?

For the last time, let me say this:

It is not that Lindsey Buckingham, multi millionaire, got fired.

It's that the band of five, who represented such a great part of my memories of many years of my life, is now no longer, and that it was torn apart in such an ugly, nasty way.

It's the loss of that last connection to many meaningful times enjoying their music, and the knowledge I'll never get to repeat that magic in person, in concert, again.

Again, if you don't care, that's fine. I'm not the one being b*tchy to you about how you respond to what's going on. To each their own.

Well, for those that don't like the word death and RIP used, think of it as a major loss to a lot of people that care a great deal for Lindsey and his music, and what it means to them. There's a lot of emotions and personal memories tied to it. And if you think about it, the stages of grieving start with denial; like "They can't be serious!" "This just can't be happening!" Some folks are still there. Then there's anger. A lot of people are way past denying this is happening. It's painfully real and raw. This is a message board and people are grieving.

see i understand liking the history and preferring other versions over BN one. what i don't get is how can you have high hopes for the version with SN in the mix. i kinda wonder whether she'll cause this version to implode already during rehearsals. the chemistry certainly appeared very negative in that interview.

Going by the last few studio albums with Stevie, I fully expect that I’ll skip most of her songs. The only reason I have any hope for the band is the caliber musicians they brought in. If they had gotten crappy musicians, I’d be out, too. But my enjoyment of Fleetwood Mac has almost been in spite of Stevie since at least 1991.

They may make money from the tour but a new album without the classic Rumours lineup would be DOA. I'm sure Mick realizes this and will cough up one last cashgrab album of "new" unreleased demos.

Might as well call it 24KT Mold: Songs from the Crypt. :(

I have never treated anyone who thinks Stevie (or Chris or Mick or John etc) is great disrespectfully.

*I* have always been a huge Stevie fan, and have always said so. I've always even said, for that matter, that I think Lindsey was likely abusive to Stevie back in the day. Which p*sses off many of the Lindsey people. My perspective has always been that every single member of this band is a flawed individual (just like everybody is) and that blindly worshipping any one of them is not my thing. But I love, love what they produce together.

But when one of them behaves badly, I have no issue calling it out. And I think Stevie and Mick have behaved badly.

If you have issues with other people on here, work it out with them.

More interesting to me would've been the Rumours Five going on, making new music and touring on that, and the history that IS FM! Way back to Peter Green and forward. Why not? It’s not like he couldn’t afford to do it. If Richard Thompson, who never had a huge hit, can tour the world, Lindsey certainly can.

FM should consider employing a "Fact Checker". Will make any press over the next 5 months easier for them. On second thought--if they did that, there is literally nothing they could say that wouldn't implicate themselves. Neil and Mike would be doing a lot of talking.
"Sorry Mick, you can't say that--you've already publicly said he's turned his last 3 solo albums into FM albums for the band"
"Sorry Stevie, you can't say that--you've already given him credit for all of the beautiful work on your music. And don't forget, you dragged him up to Tara a few years ago to fix the mess that you, Dave Stewart and Waddy made of Soldier Angel"
"Sorry Christine--you've said you've never had any issues with him as a producer and when you came back to the band in 2013, you sent a bunch a music over to him to work on for the next FM album."
"John--are you there?"

You know, after watching this...

Maybe they can come back from this. They came back from 1987, after all.

They just don't have as much TIME now.

I saw it posted elsewhere that Stevie is grieving and you know, that could very well have made her act rashly and she may come to regret anything she might have done at this point.

I just cannot get on board this "Stevie is Satan" train, no matter how upset I am by what has happened. Even if she has done this to Lindsey, it does not mean she is a bad person. A person with a good heart can still sometimes be selfish, can still sometimes hurt others, can still sometimes do things they come to regret. Perhaps Lindsey said some things he regrets, too.

I hope that eventually, they can mend their relationship before it's too late... and I don't mean too late for a Fleetwood Mac reunion. I mean before it's too late, PERIOD.

50+ years of history... it can't end in such a petty, stupid way.

I agree, Sevie is not a bad person, she rather made some poor choices and/or never got over seing herself in the role of the victim in the B/N relationship.
And that's why I don't think they need to mend anything, nor should they even try. What for? At best, Stevie can finally lay this at rest now, 40 years too late. I would rather have them not commenting on each other ever again, it's so useless.

I'm feeling quite bad for Neil Finn. Well I'm an Aussie and I've long been a fan, since 80s. (We tend to claim the New Zealand talent as our own - they've produced some amazing musical artists.) He's a very good musician, writer, and seems a nice guy as well.

Hope it works out for him with FM, though at first it seems an odd kind of choice. Stranger things have happened and worked out okay.

How he may fit in this band - like Stevie and Lindsey, I think that the Everly Brothers and The Beatles were enormous influences on him and his brother. I think he's a natural harmoniser and that may have been a factor for including him.

That's not all there is to him though. We might think of him as a folkie type, but it's occurred to me in last few weeks, Split Enz had a punk edge in quite a few of their songs. Studio processing might have removed some of it but in the stripped back live versions it's more obvious.

Even though I think he's a calmer guy than Lindsey - he has known his share of band drama in the past and can probably tap into how that's shown itself in FM's music.

And yeh I'd love to hear FM do 'I Got You' with Christine doing the synth part - would be perfect! (Pun not intended.) 'I Hope I Never' is also a great keyboard piece.

No, it won't be 'Fleetwood Mac' as most of us know them. But it may be something new and different for them after getting in a sort of rut with their show. I decided I was gonna be happy with seeing them in 2015 and it would be the last time I see them. Figured if I went again in another few years it would probably be much the same thing as last time but maybe not such a strong performance.

Hoping folks give the new guys a chance.

In my opinion, we're well past "poor choices" at this point. I don't consider these recent events "poor choices" not when they are backed by other band members (well, sort of) and teams of lawyers, agents, and whatever "yes men" they have surrounding them.

I'm sure it got nasty by all counts, Lindsey included. But all they needed to do was take a collective time out and figure it out. But instead, nobody was willing to hit pause on the cash register for 5 freakin minutes.

Yes you're right there. Tim wrote, sang and did the piano on it. It should be Tim. Though Neil has apparently also done it live. Neil seems like a more 'stable' character but Tim also very talented.

I was trying to think of what has produced this distinctive music culture in New Zealand. Neil has probably said it himself: "There’s a lot of eccentric people in New Zealand - sometimes you think they’re allowed to be because of our isolation from the hard-edged nature of most people in modern cities overseas.”

Split Enz were as weird and nutty as FM at times, for sure. But that's why we like FM.

After hearing last weeks interviews I think this is not mainly about their relationship as a couple. Considering her package deal comments this is about her dismissing the role of Lindsey in her success. Everyone including Tom Petty has said Lindsey is the one who made her songs what they are. She apparently resents that she wouldn’t be in FM without him or as successful as she has been, without him. And that’s why I have no doubt she’ll try to record new FM album with Mike. She must hate all the stories out there that she cannot write music anymore and wants to put them to bed.

except she can't. the songs are known by those arrangements, and if she totally did them differently (not just re-recording them, that would still be using his arrangements) people would compare them to the versions we know. so she's stuck with his fingerprints all over her work like it or not.

Remember, her truth-teller, Tom Petty, said in Lindsey's BTM that "they love each other but they REALLY hate each other"

The people who are pointing to Carol's book about LB's violent behavior need to read ALL of it and not just the parts that support their point of view., She also talks about Stevie pushing his buttons, and doing things knowingly to irritate him.

And if she really hated his work on her songs, she should have stopped collaborating with him on demos ad such a long, long time ago. She still relies on him and expects him to bail her out just because she asks him too. She's relied on the fact that he was still holding out for her to come back to him for so many years to get him to work with her, when she wanted to. It takes both people to make a relationship dysfunctional.

She's done similar with Mick...when she's mad at him she says things in the press, then when he's done what she's wanted she says they're "soul mates" and "best friends" and will be friends "forever" etc etc etc.

well that's the thing... she really has not wanted to work with him for at least a decade now. it seems like making SYW was the last effort she was going to make and after that she just did NOT want to record with him again ever (except she turned to him for help with Soldier's Angel and talked about what a "great" experience it was.... but I honestly believe that was just her throwing a bone to the shippers. It was part of her marketing of her album. She's a very good soldier when it comes to getting out and really selling the public on her latest album/tour/whatever). Tours they can just avoid each other all day until show time, and stay in different hotels (so she can get her Presidential Suite, because "I demand it"). And she sleeps in and does her stuff and he wanders around the tour cities or whatever and it's minimal contact. But out of sheer stubborness about "I won't be the one to break up the band" she wouldn't just pull the plug, instead dragging her feet and making them wait. And let's face it, she likes the bragging rights of being in such a historic band.

So when something bad happens to one of them, and she plays the I'm-so-sad-he-was-my-soulmate thing.....she'll be expecting no one will remember all the things she's said. This is a quote from Jimmy Iovine attributed to Howard Stern. I went back and listened to the Howard /Jimmy interview and while he said something similar, saying how talented Lindsey was, he didn't say this:
"When I first started working with Stevie Nicks on her first solo record I was shocked on how reliant she was to Lindsey Buckingham for her music. Up to that point it was Lindsey who told her if a song she wrote sounded good, or bad. It was Lindsey who molded her material into songs, told her if a verse should be left in, or out. He would even change many of her original tempos to a different time signature. Even during the production of her first record she would second guess what I was doing, wondering if Lindsey would’ve done the same thing. I knew from that point onward I would have to do my best to adapt to become what Lindsey had been to her music to make it all work, yet not lose my own identity on how I made records myself. " Jimmy Iovine

Its from the Howard Stern show and the entire show was posted here not long ago. Jimmy stated he was hesitant to be Stevie's producer because he was no Lindsey Buckingham. I don't think that was really the thing with Soldier's Angel/IYD album. She actually didn't even talk much about that song in press for it and it was never a single. What she did say about having Lindsey on the album was pretty brief and simple. I think that during that album, working with Dave Stewart, she was in her most perfect happy Stevie land. She probably could have brought her klonopin doctor in and they would've had a blast. I watched/listened to a bunch of interviews of Stevie during that time and she was probably the happiest she'd been in a looong time and hasn't been that happy since. Making that album was really a dream for her.
Which is why I REALLY want to know what the heck happened with Dave Stewart. Why does it seem like their working relationship is totally dead? Maybe if she worked with him again like that she would be happier.

Kinda the same with Sheryl. They were best buddies and then that faded out, even before the "join FM" debacle. There was a phase when she and Courtney Love and Billy Corgan were best buds, then that passed too.

Stevie Nicks: 'My new album is about Lindsey Buckingham'

STEVIE NICKS insists former lover and FLEETWOOD MAC bandmate LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM will love her new solo album because half the tracks are about him.

PUBLISHED: 14:42, Tue, Sep 30, 2014

The couple had one of the most famous romances in rock and Nicks admits many of the songs that make up 24 Karat Gold: Songs From the Vault were inspired by her feelings for the guitarist.

Nicks will release the record next month (Oct14), a week after she hits the road with Fleetwood Mac, and she is looking forward to hearing what Buckingham thinks about the old songs she has revamped with producer Dave Stewart.

She tells Rolling Stone magazine, "Lindsey will love it (album); half of the songs are about him.

"We have continually written about each other, and we'll probably keep writing about each other until we're dead. We have been through great successes, great misunderstandings, a great musical connection.

"He has more of an appreciation for that now. I think it's because he has two little daughters and a lovely wife, so he's really in Girl World now. He's more aware of a feminine point of view."

I seriously doubt she knows those stories are out there. She's very much protected by everyone. Lori Nicks once said:"We have to keep her happy in order for her to be productive" (this was in '86 or something and I can't remember the context of that conversation).
When FM did 2 sold out shows in Holland in '88 I got to talk to Christine. Stevie had gotten terrible reviews while Christine's were very favorable. When I told her that she said:"Oh, that's bad. Better not tell Stevie or she'll retire tomorrow". I had to promise her that I wouldn't tell Stevie about it. So I doubt she knows what the fans are saying about her or the press for that matter especially when it's something negative.

Kinda the same with Sheryl. They were best buddies and then that faded out, even before the "join FM" debacle. There was a phase when she and Courtney Love and Billy Corgan were best buds, then that passed too.

I think she didn't like very much that Sheryl told the advice Stevie once gave her: that she should never have kids because once that happens you lose your songwriter powers. Stevie's face was priceless. She absolutely hated it!:laugh:

We also have a very unique reggae/hip hop/dub-y sound that is hugely influenced by Maori and Pacific Island music and culture so we produce very individualist artists.....think Split Enz (Neil and Tim Finn), Lorde, Fat Freddys drop

So when something bad happens to one of them, and she plays the I'm-so-sad-he-was-my-soulmate thing.....she'll be expecting no one will remember all the things she's said. She's badmouthed him in the press far more than he has. And the need to compare herself to all the other women in his life "I was the one who was with him for all the RIGHT reasons... not for his money or his fame". Oy. It's like sometimes Gemini is code for split-personality.

I don't want that something bad happens to Lindsey just to see how fake she can be.
Yes, we all can see now how she was with him for the right reasons..... until she stabbed him in the back.

I truly do wonder if she's seen/be made aware of any of this, particularly the signs around LA. I have to think SOMEONE was like, "Hey, Heads up...so there's this...." I actually think their demeanor during that horrendous interview last week indicates someone is whispering in someone's ear. When you don't know what it is
But you can't get enough of it
If's not that funny is it?
Don't blame me!
Please, please, please!
I didn't wanna bleed so
I didn't wanna be this late
So don't make me wait!
It's not that funny is it
No one to turn you on
All your hope is gone
It's not that funny is it?
Don't blame me!
Please, please, please!
You're here cause I say so
Didn't wanna be this late
So don't make me
Don't make me wait!
Here comes the nightime looking for a little more
Waiting on the right time somebody outside the door.

As much as I currently despise siding with SN, I do think this quote of loving LB for the right reasons is fair enough. CAH was basically a groupie who lived off his fame, money and the rock roll lifestyle and I think KB was very attracted to his money and the lifestyle it could offer and possibly bear-trapped him with a pregnancy. She was a 'photographer' with no actual work credited to her name but now is flipping million dollar homes and building an equestrian farm. Although in saying that she has been the supportive wife currently and has very much got his back.

But she raised his children.... something Stevie clearly wasn't willing to do. Even though she knew how much he wanted a family.

And well, we all know now how much she loves Lindsey. Or loved.

I have some family roots in New Zealand and still some relatives there. There was rumour there was some Maori trace in our family and so we are musical... It was tall story, as were a few others!

I think it's great that they march to beat of their own drum because so much of music produced worldwide these days is lacking in originality. But interesting new talent continues to emerge from there.

Found the Finn brothers covering Bye Bye Love by Everly Brothers in 1980s. Stevie should enjoy singing with him.

Yes, I was talking about that in another thread. Last year on her solo tour, I think it was at the Columbus show, she dedicated Landslide to Lindsey and talked about that moment when she had to choose between coming back to Lindsey and their personal and professional career or coming back to school and a financial security.
There wasn't a time when she used the word 'love' while talking about coming back to Lindsey. But indeed it was convenient for her career.

Like I said, she's very well protected by everyone. If they know about the signs they'd make her sit in the back of the car and in the middle of the seat so she wouldn't be able to see the outside very well. They'd probably take a detour to avoid those signs.
I'd like to think they'd be bothered by it, but considering the fact that they threw their 40+ years fans under the bus I doubt it. They'll probably think:"It'll all blow over once they (the fans) hear the music".

As far as people making a protest or something like that during the concert, wouldn't security just remove them? I don't know if it's just certain venues or what, but in Nationwide in Ohio I've seen several people removed for being loud, or likely they were drunk, too, but being loud seemed to be the cause. I've never seen a protest during a concert, or heard of one that occurred, so I'm curious.

If you don't like the new lineup, don't go. Don't turn up with intent of ruining or sabotaging it for other audience members who want to go there and enjoy the experience. Talking about concert protests is stupid, with how security conscious they are nowadays - major concerts now being a target of terrorist attacks.

What is age level of people here? I would've thought more maturity with how long this group has been around. I consider myself neutral on the issue but am almost feeling ashamed of being FM fan with this sort of behaviour.

They tried to continue on the road, but they don't work together well in studio anymore. That's just how it is. Can't always get what you want. I guess you'll be happy though if they all walk off the stage and event spoiled for everyone else.

For years Lindsey has been acting as if he is leader of this band, and they were nothing before he came along. Could be the other long term members got sick of that and want to also cover the band's earlier history on these final tours. Not just the first few years of Stevie and Lindsey, ignoring all the others.

He's never cared about the roles of others in this band. Yes he is a great guitarist, probably the best I'll ever see live. But his attitude is a concern. He is no 'victim', I'm sure if he was more willing to compromise and negotiate something could've been worked out with him. Why should they put up with his self-important, controlling attitude for the rest of their years?

Maybe you're a newbie, and don't understand those of us that have followed this band since we were children.

Know what? Lindsey WAS the musical director of the band. HE was the one with the vision, and the skills to get there. Think Christine could've done that? Old Goat Breath? You severely underestimate his skills and vision, as the f*cking LEADER of FM.

I really don't understand this prevailing commonplace that if you like an artist's output then you must like their persona, you can appreciate a work of art while still not appreciating the maker, for most normal people it's possible and in some cases maybe even recommended to differentate between the two things.

Well in this situation, practically everyone's argument is roughly equivalent to:
"Lindsey's a big jerk! That's why he got kicked out! He deserved it!"
Well then let's just say Lindsey is a big ole jerk, mean and nasty 24/7, ego the size of Russia and lets that be known every minute of every day. Even then, his work and what he's done for the band over the years is remarkable, and it is undeniable that he HAS been the musical leader of the band and the whole rest of the band AND those very same 'fans' have clearly appreciated the work he's always done.
So even in that situation, regardless of what you think about him as a person, the fact that he was axed so suddenly, in the twilight of their careers, over some basic conflict, after everything he's done, after having JUST finished making and touring what was essentially a Fleetwood Mac album (an experience that everyone involved seemed to love), is wrong.

I don't think Lindsey did something wrong and therefore deserved to be kicked out. I think the band just felt they couldn't go any further, for whatever reason, whether it was a disagreement over when to tour or whether they wanted to tour while Lindsey was also doing his solo gig. I do think if it could have been worked out, it would have been, because all of them would have made big money. They couldn't come to an agreement, so they fired Lindsey. I certainly don't think he deserved it, and he's not a jerk anymore than any of them. I mean, I don't know any of them, they all could be jerks, but I don't think so.

I guess what I'm saying is, I don't think most people here think Lindsey is a jerk and deserved to be fired, because that suggests be did something wrong or bad, when more likely it was a disagreement that led to his firing.

I think his skill at producing hit records gave him a lot of sway -- back when they were still making/selling lots of records. Given that Stevie won't make records with them, that reduced his clout on that front. There were a lot of people who hated it when Christine and Lindsey along with the rest of the Mac put out an album that didn’t include Stevie. She didn’t want it and they did. This time around he didn’t want to tour and they did. I’d say Stevie pulled a checkmate move at the end of the day.

which is what various Stevie worshiping fans have been disputing in every. single. thread. on here. but they say it in SN groups.

but i agree, there's not much to unpack to that statement, and probably just a bit more than that in this whole situation.

Yeah, that's totally ridiculous. First of all, that doesn't make sense- they gave Stevie every opportunity to be on the album, and she refused to participate, so what's to get revenge for?

Second, of course a SN forum is going to have SN worshippers, just like a LB forum is going to have LB worshippers. The Ledge, I think, appeals to folks who love the band as a whole. I'm sure a LB group is going to have posts claiming Stevie and Mick have been scheming to get Lindsey out of FM for years.

Oh, don't worry, we're not going. More seats for you, I guess.

Hmm, I don't see how neutral your post can be if you have been bashing him all the time. Since when Lindsey has been acting of the leader of the band? May I remind you who was in the cover of Rolling Stones during the last tour?

Stevie never cared about pre-1975 FM songs. She used to walk off stage every time Lindsey played 'Oh,Well' during the 2009 tour.

He never cared about the roles of others? That's why he worked on Stevie and Christine's songs on every album?

Stevie wanted him out. She didn't want to tour with him anymore. He was willing to negotiate until the very last minute but the decision was already made. But hey, if you want to believe all the lies Mick and Stevie said on CBS, fine by me.

Self-important, controlling attitude? I think you're talking about Stevie.

Yeah, I don't doubt the whole BuckVie album and everything surrounding it played a big part in the current situation. It won't be said though, because the other 3 all participated too, and Stevie can't exactly throw *them* under the bus at this point.

I think BuckVie will be quietly swept under the rug (much like BTM), never to be heard from again. Which is a damn shame... :distress:

She didn’t throw the rest of the band under the bus because she knows it was Lindsey’s idea. Let’s face it: for the past 15 years every idea on FM has been Lindsey’s.

As ridiculous as it sounds, Buckingham McVie was the reason Stevie wanted Lindsey out of the band. For those who wants to believe it, great. For those who don’t, enjoy your tour.

A million threads, which one to pick.
So I'll just say it here.

I don't know how anyone that calls
themselves a Fleetwood Mac fan can
go and see them on this upcoming tour.

They're are not the Green, Buckingham
Nicks version of the band. Not even the
very much inferior band that put out BTM
and Time.

Just a bunch of rich old wrinkled up has-beens.
And with those ticket prices I figure they must
be charging by the wrinkle.

I mostly agree with you!
But there are a lot of people, including the person on the previous page, who are insinuating Lindsey was let go because he's such a jerk and the band suddenly got fed up of his jerkiness, which I think is a silly argument to make.

I stand by my post. Only I don’t think it was sudden...it was cumulative. Unless something worse happened at Musiccares we don’t know about. But let’s face it if he did not have a history of being a jerk or difficult, and he was known as the nicest guy in the world, and was still equally as talented, this probably would not have happened.

I don’t doubt that Stevie was number one ringleader in wanting him out, with Mick second with visions of dollar signs. Of course she would be. The others agreed and that’s it. On with the Show. :wavey:

I wasn't talking about you but I couldn't disagree more! If they were gonna kick people out for being assholes they would've kicked him out in the 70s/80s when he was at his peak asshole behavior. You know who actually DID delay Fleetwood Mac in recent years? None other than Miss Stevie Nicks! Read Mick's Playboy interview, he was not a happy camper. And yet she faced no consequence for it.
Also if it was all cumulative why did all of those people (minus Stevie) work on the Buckingham McVie album? Why'd they go and tour it? That tour finished just months ago! And they all had nothing but a positive experience! Do you think that they said to themselves, 'we're gonna take a little break from being mad at Lindsey for acting like a major jerk back in the day, to go out and make this album with him, then go out and tour it and have a blast, then just a few months after we come back, THEN we're gonna fire Lindsey even though he hasn't really done anything except ask for some scheduling tweaks about the tour!!!'

**Also the suggestion that Lindsey today is not 'equally as talented' is ridiculous. You must have never seen them in concert recently then. I don't deny his vocal range is basically gone, but he was 90% of that band's energy onstage. ANYONE will tell you that. Even the people that come solely to see Stevie. And, as the Buckingham McVie album proves, he's still actively making new music that is nice to listen to.

For ****’s sake, they’re all in their 70’s (or close to it) — at this point they should all do what the want.
I find it astounding that people think this band “owes” fans.
They’re all making choices for themselves, not fans.
And they deserve that right. This isn’t a company and we’re not investors.
It’s ****ing music. Enjoy it or don’t.
But please stop writing narratives for people you don’t know personally.

I’ve loved this band for better or worse, for the music.
I’ve never been interested in the relationships or the addiction stories or any other drama -
manufactured, or real.

I get upset when the sound sucks, or someone can’t sing well on a particular night, but that aside - I’m super impressed that they’re willing to tour this extensively at their ages.

I’m deeply disappointed that Lindsey isn’t on this tour.
But I’m also hugely excited to see Mike Campbell play some of my all time favorite songs.

Who knows why this band does what they do? They could/should have fired Lindsey in 1980 after the tantrum on stage in Australia. But they didn’t do it then. He’s lucky Mick and John didn’t fire him years ago when he was overbearing when he first joined.

And yes, they could have and probably should have fired Stevie after she didn’t record in what led up to BM. But they didn’t.

I just think his past attitude/reputation has to have come into play regarding what happened recently. Otherwise they could have worked it out. If it was only Stevie wanting revenge why would Christine and John go with it (even though Chris says she was unaware, which I don’t buy).

I'm not saying this was all about Stevie wanting revenge. I personally believe (based of ALL the information I've gathered about this and what the 'sources' say) that Stevie, in the aftermath of Tom's death, is in a headspace where she wants to live her life happily. And for her in that perspective, that doesn't mean going on tour with the ex-boyfriend she's always had a grudge against and most of all, who she gets into petty fights with. And yes I do think she had some bitterness towards him for the Buckingham McVie album and that did play SOME role in it. So when Lindsey started asking if he could do two tours, if he could play his shows in between FM, and they were saying no and presumably started arguing, she just snapped. And decided 'no, I'm done, I want to be happy happy happy with no problems'. And of course she suggests her good friend, the best friend of the late Tom Petty to take his place. Mick's #1 priority is making money so he's probably pissed at Lindsey to begin with for wanting to work his solo project at the same time as FM, and of course he has to appease his cash cow so he agrees. I also agree that the story that Christine didn't know until after the deal was done is a farce, but I do believe that Christine didn't have much power in the decision. But if you've been listening to the radio station, she talks a lot about Lindsey and says nothing but good things. In the CBS interview as well, she only said how great of a time she had with him on their album. I don't think John cares much either way and he goes with whatever Mick wants.

I don't think Stevie is a villain for this. I just think that she's basically stuck in her grief over Tom. She wants to be happy, she wants to have Tom's friend, her friend close to her and so she thinks this is the way to be happy.

I don't think she cared they did an album without her. Stevie seemed relieved to have Christine back in the group and lobbied for it. The Buckingham McVie album was quite forgettable. But kept Christine and Lindsey busy for awhile.

There is so much tension between Stevie and Lindsey nowadays, it led to an increased partnership between Christine and Lindsey onstage which found its way into the studio. Was probably convenient for Stevie.

Things between Stevie and Lindsey have obviously deteriorated very badly. Christine coming back to the group probably increased the distance between them rather than mended fences. But Stevie was probably just glad to have him off her hands.

As well as this trouble, I think that Mick has started having his own issues with Lindsey and is trying to reclaim back the broader legacy of this group, as the original founder and overseer. That's what got the vote kick against him.

John McVie has been through serious illness. Tom Petty's death and loss of a few others has reminded them of their mortality and at this point they don't need all the tension and drama with them anymore. It got to point where they couldn't find a happy, balanced compromise.

I think there are multiple reasons here and it's a shame it came to this. Lindsey is such an awesome talent but he can be difficult and focused on himself.

There's been manipulation all sides. If all the others are so terrible though and useless without Lindsey, just don't go see them? Get Lindsey's next solo album and go to his show. That's where he should take everything. He can do an entire album on this theme portraying himself as victim at all points. Cry me a river. He brought this on himself.

2 - He was the only band member in that video, wasn’t he. Talking to a group of fans. Is there video proof he relayed his wish to do both tours to the rest of the band? Or did he just decide this was what was going to happen without telling them? And HOW was this relayed to the rest of the band? Calmly? In a fight with Stevie? I don’t think you need to worry about him - he’s thrilled to be able to keep on doing what he loves the most in life - to play the guitar for other people.

It’s important for everyone to remember that this whole band on this tour peaked commercially decades ago. They just like to play. None of them need the cash.

Oh, I'm sure they gave him an explanation and he didn't like it. And that's why his family is so against the band, especially Stevie and Mick. You don't fire someone in any job capacity after 43 years without a valid reason. If they gave him a valid reason why is his family trashing the band. And I'm not talking about his wife and children. Glad to have him off her hands? The same hands that didn't let him go during speeches as Musicares? Yeah, right!:laugh:

Yeah, I'm sure Lindsey's regretting spending so much time with a bunch of traitors who used his talent for decades and now throw him away because they don't need him anymore. I don't think he will portray himself as a victim. No more than Stevie on CBS last Wednesday. That's her speciality. Bringing Tom's death on the table once again. Already betting on the number of times she will name him on this tour.

I'm talking about his San Jose's family. The one that have known Stevie since she was a teenager.

And this is not a regular job. We all know that.

His family is bashing the band because they do not like the fact Lindsey got fired. That doesn’t mean the reason was not valid.

I know it’s not a regular job, but obviously only the founder of a band is “safe” from being fired. Entertainers are not exempt. This incident proves it.

If there was a valid reason they would have said it on CBS last Wednesday. They didn't. And not exactly because they're all good buddies who didn't want to throw him under the bus. Stevie even referred to him as "certain person". They couldn't even said his name.

So, no , there was no valid reason other than an ultimatum.

...The Buckingham McVie album was quite forgettable. But kept Christine and Lindsey busy for awhile....

If “quite forgettable” means one excellent song after another arranged, produced, and performed with more ingenuity and heart than an FM release since Mirage, then yeah, it was quite forgettable.

I haven’t stopped listening to the album since its release last year.

For what it’s worth, I am also a fan of IYD. Both music projects offer fans new music (even if some came from old demos) that brings out the best in the respective artists. “Carnival Begin”, “Love is Here to Stay” and “Annabelle Lee” play on the strengths of each of these musicians.

1 - That is not surprising. I think more people are surprised than not when they get the pink slip.
This is what a lot of us mean when we say there are a lot of unanswered questions.

1. Again, not a regular job. Really?
2. It doesn't matter! The point is that he didn't want to delay anything, like Stevie and Mick so nicely told all those stupid fans who wanted to believe their lies on Wednesday. He wanted to WORK, to CREATE.
Anyway, if you need to know where this is all coming from, you should join some of Lindsey's FB groups, so you can read how some people who's WORKING DIRECTLY WITH LINDSEY is saying exactly the same thing.

I'm not gonna believe anything the band said about Lindsey on CBS because he was not there, so yeah, a lot of unanwered questions on that interview.

Still so disgusted with what they did to this band. They had a god damn few good years to go out TOGETHER and leave their legacy intact. They damn well didn't need anymore more money so freaking wait a few months for Lindsey. F*CK they didn't kick Stevie out when she didn't want to record. They are almost in their 80's, they will not be a viable band in a few more years.

Again, speculation. Another speculation, from me: The behind the scenes events leading up to the “ultimatum” could have been so ugly no one wanted to give the real reason so saying touring conflicts was the reason chosen. More speculation: maybe Lindsey is choosing to maintain his track record of silence, even in this unusual circumstance, because the real reason will make him look just as bad as the others, if not worse. And his family is siding with him because...they are his family.

You say “mindless Stevie fans” are in denial that she could have set this in motion, but I think Lindsey fans are just as in denial that he may have had a role to play in this and there was a reason his compromise was denied that had nothing to do with who fills the seats.

Well, if the only word you know is "speculation" then it's pretty difficult to talk to you.

Haha! Gimme a break! What could he have done to deserve being fired? Killed Karen? Killed her dog? You don't like his family? Well, then his band is supporting him. They would never do that and jeopardize their jobs if he had sone something wrong. And that's LOGIC, not speculation.

Yeah, I’m in the minority, too, when I say Buckingham Nicks has become one of the most overpraised collaborations in 70s rock. It’s a good little record, occasionally even very good (‘Frozen Love”, “Long Distance Winner”) but certainly not classic and not, in my opinion, superior to the best moments on those 70-74 FM records. What that record lacks is a sufficient bottom end. “Frozen Love” and “Don’t Let Me Down Again” could have been killer with the Fleetwood-McVie-McVie trio setting the musical bed.

Christine likes being in the background and now Lindsey will be a member they replaced. This is how she wants FM to end. She as the only member they cant replace. She is SO evil. :(

Stevie has been acting like a f*cking diva since 1975, and yet she was never fired. Because she's Stevie Nicks. Do I need to say more? Nah, what's the point? But Lindsey's a jerk who deserved to be fired.

There is truth in both statements...
Yes, she is a diva.
Yes, he can be a jerk.
And that’s what makes a big part of Fleetwood Mac.
Without either one of them it’s less of a band....
(...I have not said he deserved to sacked...)

So what is a long-time major Fleetwood Mac fan to do if he's also a HUGE Neil Finn fan, and a pretty big Mike Campbell fan? As much as I hate seeing Lindsay gone, they went and picked the ONE GUY (Finn) that I think I'd be most intrigued by.

But yes, stevie getting her way just makes all of that irrelevant. That makes perfect sense.

Ok, bear with me....swords down, everyone. Going by what the players have said in interviews, and what people like Rick Turner have said on the record (no a friend of a friend of a friend whispering on the internet).

The scenario it paints is one where LB tries in vain to coordinate the doing his solo shows between the Mac shows and the band fighting him on it, to the point where he finally says fine, then move the tour out several months so I can get some shows in this summer. And even how that progresses to, let's say, him giving them an ultimatum of "Fine, then I won't tour at all if you don't" thinking they won't want to mess up a lucrative farewell tour and will capitulate.

Stevie says she'll tour now, as planned, but she's got other things set for after the tour and she's not going to change those, so the band can tour with her in 2018 and not LB, or they can wait and tour with LB in 2019 but she won't be there. Mick checks with the promoters, as we've been told he did, and asks which tour they'd prefer, and the overwhelming answer is the tour with Stevie. Mick must at some point convey this to Lindsey......and then what? LB says, fine, go ahead... If all you care about is money etc etc and they have the same old argument again about art vs commerce, what I've given to this band, she blew us off for years, etc? At some point Stevie says I'm not dealing with this anymore, it's him or me?

I mean the plot seems plausible, but even this way the timing still seems off. Even when you try to make a scenario like above that doesn't start with 'this was all a Stevie plot from the beginning" the timing still is weird.

Whatever happened must have been brewing for some time before Musicares. And then the trigger must have gotten pulled super fast after that night, because in barely a week they had Mike onboard. Well....it was about a week (6 days) until MICK called Mike... I just cannot believe that Stevie wouldn't have tested him out about it beforehand, but

And when did all these conversations between Stevie and Mick happen, that they then, by their own words in the interviews (or by Mick's words really) had to go and persuade John to go along with?

It all points to the night of Musicares being the night Stevie and Mick started planning things, so the touring stuff had to have been going on for some time prior to that.
Coz people flew out of NYC the day after the show (Saturday) and on Thursday Mick called Mike. Mick and Stevie had to have been discussing (some would say plotting, take your pick)immediately after the Musicares show. If it took a couple days or so to contact John, and convince him, their decision had to have been made by Monday latest. That's freaking fast. So someone had to have been thinking about this for a long time already, and have thought through the options well before this.

What I'd love to know is, when did they tell Lindsey they had invited Mike to join? When did they tell him he was out?? All we know is Mike was in Feb 1 and Neil was contacted 2 weeks before first meeting in Hawaii on March 21, so he was called around Mar 7. Would they have said to Lindsey, we've brought in Mike so Stevie has a pal and you can still join? Seems highly unlikely and you know he would never say yes to that, and they would know that, so inviting Mike was the official kiss of death. And again, barely one week after whatever happened at Musicares. Yet, both Lindsey and Christine seem to indicate that they both left Musicares assuming they would be touring with Lindsey. Actually, Chris says exactly that on the RS recording. (It was Mick who tries to blur the lines and says, when she says yes, they planned to tour with LB, "well, we didn't know if we HAD a tour because he wouldn't commit".....contradicting her).

I have not heard anything about exactly when Christine was told, nor when they dropped the axe on Lindsey. But the decision had to have been made by the key players (yes, some say instigators) Mick and Stevie within a day or so after Musicares. And if so then did they just come up with the plan that fast, or had someone already thought it through and then when the moment presented itself, took the opportunity to execute the plan? To me it seems like the latter.

I’ve said a lot of this before, but …

I really don’t have enough information to have a credible opinion. What I do know is that Lindsey badmouthed a show promoters, including his manager, one of the most powerful men in the business, were trying to sell and was completely cold towards Stevie during those shows, to the point where people noticed. There was simply zero chemistry there. Throw in even the suggestion of a concurrent tour, or worse a slightly delayed tour (if that’s to be believed), and it’s easy to see how he was playing with fire.

That’s why I want to know if Azoff dropped Lindsey before or after the band fired him. He may have become a financial liability. While the rumored blowout between LB-SN might have been especially bad, it probably wouldn’t have led to a firing under different circumstances. So I wouldn’t be surprised if there were industry pressures that factored into the decision.

As for Christine, they either went behind her back because they knew what she’d say OR they were trying to protect her from having to make a vote. But it’s completely unreasonable to expect her to have more loyalty to Lindsey than Mick and John. She and Lindsey were and may again be creative partners, but Mick and John are like family to her. To put it a different way, she sent demos to Lindsey, but got on the plane with Mick. All that said, she is clearly not happy about how it happened, isn’t going to hide it, and isn’t going to throw Lindsey under the bus in the press.

In terms of timeline, getting Mike was an obvious choice. Just listen to Stevie’s speech that night. Tom has clearly been on her mind nonstop, so I could easily see “I can’t work with him anymore, let’s get Mike” being immediate and instinctive for Stevie. I doubt there was a lot of conspiring about getting him.

But, again, there’s just not enough information to go on.

I agree with you. I think people concentrate too much on the emotional side of things instead of thinking about all the rational economical connected causes.
Even if Mick and Stevie are evil incarnate we have to remember that Mick is the type that always prefers to use diplomacy, even when his actual ultimate goal is to ensure the profit he would try to find a way to pacify things between everyone before having to resort to drastic solutions.

Cold? Why? Did he have to be romantic so she could feel special?
I was there and have some pics to prove wrong. It's always hot and cold with them. Stevie wanted more attention than she really deserved. And because of BuckVie, Lindsey was more focused on Christine than on her. Big deal.

After.

Yeah, Stevie and Lindsey used to be family too. She said it numerous times.

No conspiracies here. Stevie couldn't stand working with Lindsey anymore, so he was out and Mike in.

Kind of like Double Trouble without Stevie Ray Vaughan.

I stand corrected- a miss-placed quotation mark can be very costly! James Taylor puts on a great concert, and while I didn't see the one you mentioned, I am sure it was great! But back to your original comment:

I don't know how anyone that calls
themselves a Fleetwood Mac fan can
go and see them on this upcoming tour.

I do believe a lot of people have "been had" (play on your words) as they don't know about the changes. In my area the tickets went on sale and people just don't know about Lindsey. In fact, they didn't realize the tickets that have been advertised on TV, radio, etc is for a show NEXT year by the time they reach my area. Friends asked me if I got tickets yet, as if it was an urgency, and were surprised to learn the local shows are not imminent. Most people don't know and maybe don't care about the intricacies of a lot of music groups as much as we do- it's just a night out for entertainment.

But I am a fan and I will be going to see the upcoming tour. I will also see Lindsey on tour and IF BuckinghamMcVie happens, I will see that again as well. I hope it happens. And I hope Lindsey puts something out SOON. Time is the enemy of all of them.

HOW? Because I like the music. And I am curious as to how this will all play out. I also loved Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (TPATH). I believe they will do well.

I'm also wondering if maybe Benmont Tench might be looking for keyboard work. He would be an amazing gain for the band.

Kill any snakes lately? Hibernation must be over.

So what is a long-time major Fleetwood Mac fan to do if he's also a HUGE Neil Finn fan, and a pretty big Mike Campbell fan? As much as I hate seeing Lindsay gone, they went and picked the ONE GUY (Finn) that I think I'd be most intrigued by.

go see Neil Finn when he comes around solo instead of shelling out $500 to see him from a far covering FM songs plus his biggest hit?

this is what someone shared with me as an example of some of the typical posts in SN groups - i thought i'd put it up for discussion here, since there's a lot to unpack:

There were a lot of people who hated it when Christine and Lindsey along with the rest of the Mac put out an album that didn’t include Stevie. She didn’t want it and they did. This time around he didn’t want to tour and they did. I’d say Stevie pulled a checkmate move at the end of the day.

just bringing this back around. this thread got completely derailed. this is what many of Stevie-only fans think really happened. but for whatever reason they still can't stop themselves from going around throwing sh*t at Lindsey. they couldn't wait to get rid of him, and yet now they seem to be easily distracted from their happiness and gloating.

Mick Fleetwood:

The Mac’s Still Fun Post-Lindsey Buckingham

5/2/2018 5:16 PM PDT
EXCLUSIVE

Mick Fleetwood says to expect some surprises when Fleetwood Mac hits the road again this year without guitarist Lindsey Buckingham — including some Tom Petty gems.

Buckingham was fired from the band last month and replaced by Mike Campbell, the lead guitarist for Petty’s Heartbreakers, and Neil Finn from Crowded House.

It was a pretty bad departure, but when we got Mick at LAX Wednesday he told us the band wouldn’t be cutting all of Lindsey’s songs out of the setlist … but they will be focusing on having fun. Remember, classics like “Go Your Own Way” and “Don’t Stop” are largely Lindsey jams.

We asked if there’s any chance for reconciliation, and Mick’s answer is pretty definitive — and sad for fans of the OG Mac.

That's the thing about this situation-- they may lie but they're terrible actors. Everything is so obvious. Like that CBS interview, how awkward it was; their body language, the weird way they skirted around the issue, Stevie's GODAWFUL "I have a solo career and I'm the boss *unnecessary dramatic pause* but I'm not the boss in this band" even though she's literally delayed tours that her other band members were ready to go on, refused to record albums that her other band members were ready to record etc, John's face when she said she wasn't going to complain anymore. The lies are just SO obvious to me I can't fathom how other people can't see it.

In that Rolling Stone interview, it's hysterical if you listen to the commentary from the interviewers at the end. They literally call all of them out on the bs and say several times how ridiculous/hard to believe the entire situation is.

There's probably a clause on no LB questions. They need to "SELL" this lineup. Hence Mick's "we are a new band" comment". However in the back of Moneybags Fleetwoods mind, I have to wonder if he's not thinking how to "right' this. They are not used to this backlash. "Didn't Lindsey Buckingham have a really big hand in basically creating the Fleetwood Mac sound? Didn't he produce basically all their songs? And he just finished touring with Christine McVie? And they're just like 'well bye'".

Right, but are you seriously going to defend the live arrangements from the last time this shakeup happened, to anything Lindsey has been behind?

They’re going to be playing some songs I’ve been wanting to hear for decades, thus giving me something I’ve been asking for as a fan. That it’s with two highly credible artists makes it intriguing.

Lets use Christine hits as an example. Everywhere on the Shake The Cage Tour vs The Dance, 2014, 2017.. Same for Little Lies. You can defend their right to continue on, and you're absolutely correct, it is still Fleetwood Mac. Chris, Mick, John. But it won't be the same, and it won't be as interesting.

I didn’t have an issue with Billy or Rick as players. They weren’t the types who added much personality to the music, I agree, but it didn’t sound bad. As for “Everywhere,” my only issue with the Cage/Mask tours was Stevie’s “I wannabe with you” add on. Lindsey’s new guitar part was a nice addition, but not something that affected my enjoyment of the song. “Little Lies” was almost indistinguishable, to the point where I thought Lindsey sounded like Billy. I liked Billy and Rick and though they kind of got raw deal, too.

Finn and Campbell are in a completely different league than Billy and Rick, though. Campbell is a Hall of Fame legend in his own right and is in a place where he can’t but help play some of his most inspired guitar playing and Finn is an OBE.

Perhaps the Green era stuff will work, I thought it did w Vito & Burnette. But anything Lindsey had a hand in producing/arranging will likely be watered down, and w/out his youthful energy and manic quirkiness, I really think they are going to look and sound like cheesy, adult contemporary garbage. Just like they did from 88-90.
Maybe. We’ll see. However, it could also take on a life of its own in a way that it could never with Billy and Rick. I mean, they initially had Billy Burnette wearing a similar shirt and jacket to what Lindsey Buckingham wore and had him play a white Les Paul Custom. Neil and Mike have their own public image and are especially not going to hide who they are.

And I love Mike Campbell, neutral about Finn, but this is just so stupid, and quite the step backward, artistically speaking.
Artistically speaking? In an era where they’ve been reduced to just being an oldies act putting on a scripted show, and where Stevie won’t make a record with Lindsey, what artistic statement do you expect from them at this point? Playing the old stuff and a few from the new guys, sadly, IS the artistic statement. In some ways, that alone solves some of the staleness many around here, myself included, have complained about for decades, really.

Again, not my first choice of how to freshen up the setlist, but I knew that was off the table last year.

LOL, true …

Jeremy Spencer once said that Peter told him he named the band Fleetwood Mac because he knew there would be a day when they weren’t going to be in the band anymore, but Mick and John would continue on. I don’t know how true that was, but if it was, the band was intentionally created to be bigger than any one member, which sounds like something Peter would do.

The biggest issue I have with what Fleetwood Mac did is handing over all of the power to money in general and Stevie specifically. Given Jeremy’s story, what they went through in 1974, the conditions they put on Christine, and the conditions they put on Lindsey, it’s almost completely out of character and history how they’ve let Stevie call the shots. But, it’s also completely in character for Mick to follow the money.
