I find it hard to believe that Lindsey wouldn't want Christine to rejoin the band, especially if it means recording a new album and touring.

It's so interesting that it's come to this. It's human nature to desire change no matter how long a person has a certain routine going,be it one year or 15. Sounds like she's just eager to start a new phase of life ,i'm sure her ''Sloane Ranger'' era ran it's course but it's still interesting to read that she now says she ''suffered from some delusion'' for even wanting that lifestyle.Must be those manipulative therapists telling her so;) ...it seemed to me she was perfectly happy in the first couple of years of 'retirement' ..it even shows on In The Meantime & the videos and interviews that were done.
Anyways i'm happy that she's expressing interest now ,it's just so ironic/utterly tragic that she finally decides this after SO LONG and BAM John McVie takes ill ...there are no words

I'm delighted too, but when she talks about rejoining/her return being considered as "a long way down that path" I did think that, given their advancing years, they really can't leave things for very long.

I find it hard to believe that Lindsey wouldn't want Christine to rejoin the band, especially if it means recording a new album and touring.
It didn't say he wouldn't want her back full-time, just that he was afraid that it could still the band's thunder, which even Christine thought was fair.
Even if he didn't, band politics might work against him.
With her saying "if you ask me, the answer is 'yes'", I bet they'll ask her.

I'm sure Stevie would do another album with Chris on board.
If John is well enough, maybe they'll tour for 2014 then head into the studio?
I wonder also if this would mean that Chris would move back to the US? She couldn't really be in the band without spending a lot of time there whilst they're recording.

I'm almost positive that John's illness is a part od why she wants to return. Since John's outlook is very good, I'm sure Mick is already planning a way to get her back. Stevie, too.
Lindsey is outvoted. :p.

This is freaking great! I hope there is no 2014 tour and just studio time for the band. John will still be recovering, so it'd make sense for him to ease into working again by hitting the studio for a few months than to be thrown straight into another tour. Plus, they've done a million greatest hits tours. Better get them in the studio while they are all happy and then have no choice but to tour instead of wait for a tour to end and they are at eachothers throats and say to hell with a new album.

Before everyone gets on board the Lindsey is a dick train (which already seems to be leaving the station), his reservations were about Christine joining the band for a guest appearance, not as a full-fledged member. We have no idea how he feels about that, so you might as well wait and see if he talks about it in an interview before the mud is thrown.
His concern seemed to be Christine getting the bulk of the reviews/headlines when she was just there for a couple shows when the rest of them had been there for the rehearsals and the rest of the shows, putting in the bulk of the work. Whether or not you agree with him, it's how he felt and Christine even said it was a valid concern. Now if she joined full time recording and touring, I think he'd probably have a much different point of view on that. In fact, it seems to me that he might enjoy her returning to the band as he seemed to be hurt when she left.
Bottom line is, he has not come out and said he's against Christine joining, so what's the point in insulting him now before his thoughts on Christine rejoining are known?

I was, of course, speaking tongue-in-cheekly. Do I think Lindsey would undermine her efforts to come back on a full-time basis? Probably not. He just seems the most likely of any of them  (again, making a joke here)

I would certainly love to hear what he says on the matter, eventually. Her return wouldn't really be all that different to his in 1997.

Lindsey said that he cut eight songs with Mick and John. Three of those were released on EP, which leaves five finished unreleased songs. We also know that Christine has been working some new material, supposedly for a new solo album. All that's needed is for Stevie to go through some of her older songs that have never been officially recorded. If they continue to use Mitchell Froom, the album could be done before they hit the road and be released while on the road.

Stevie would in a heartbeat. Remember, she almost unleashed Sheryl Crow on all of us because she wanted another woman in the band.
Lindsey would because it would probably lead to another Fleetwood Mac album.

Please Lindsey, compromise is a good thing. Let Christine rejoin, and let her use a tour bus whenever possible. I'd have the dates w/ Chris spread out over several months, than dates without her.
If they record an album, Chris can do her bit from England if she's good with technology.

I guess the clues were there- Christine looking just so happy and at ease in public recently; she can still nail it vocally; those cagey remarks about her new songs possibly being for a solo album; Mick talking about how her return "would be entertained" before they "knock it on the head".
She sounds as if she would tour as well as record- I can't believe that Lindsey would block her return after his (only) nine-year break. John's health willing, I believe this is really going to happen. That meteor that hit Russia last year- wasn't it really just a small asteroid, anyway?

I really doubt that Lindsey is against Christine rejoining the band. I mean, its impossible for him not to know how much the fans miss her, plus she was in the band before him, plus she wrote half of their hits, plus he left the band, and came back after 10 years. In case he really is, he gives the ahole a whole new meaning.

I'm in complete agreement. Christine's presence is sorely lacking in the band dynamic. I really hope this comes to fruition. And I really, really hope egos and "business things" don't get in the way.
Meanwhile, I'm also thrilled to hear her speaking so optimistically regarding John's health and prognosis.

Yes !!!! I hope they do a new CD first and then tour as they could really milk the new CD and then the tour. Tickets will hopefully not be as expensive as Eagles or Stones Ticket prices. I presume they would all welcome her back. I just hope they do it soon as they are all getting on in age.

Lindsey has said he would love her to come back. The article's mention of his discomfort with her return is out of context. That relates purely to the London shows, not to a full-time return.

Yes, I'm thrilled it was a good experience for her. I don't think The Dance was and it sounds like she was really happy those two nights. It felt like old times to me and from her side of the stage it did as well. It makes me feel really good.
Also, there's no point in her joining if they aren't going to do an album, so I think when she spoke she had that in mind and that ... even though she indicates that nothing is in the works yet, I think they HAVE all discussed this. Maybe not all 5 of them together, but I think they have discussed it in pairings among them. I don't think she was just expressing hopes. I suspect there are tentative plans. I feel confident about an album and I am "so excited."

Yes, her songs which Ken Bruce asked her about may in fact be tracks on a potential FM album. Maybe she was cagey about it when asked because she had spoken to Mick or Stevie and knew it was a possibility.

nice! and not in the least bit surprising for anybody who was following FM in 2013.
however - another several years of Big Machine?????  i can see the tour-album-tour pattern here... when will we get Lindsey solo back?? he's not getting any younger.
on the other hand, if we have to endure another cash-grabbing FM tour, Christine's presence and harmonies would make it a bit easier for this LB fan. much better than another BN same-ole same-ole tour.
"However, recent reports suggest guitarist Buckingham is worried her appearance could steal the limelight. McVie said this was "fair enough. From his point of view, it was a business thing. [Promoters] would be asking why I wasn't playing in Amsterdam or Berlin.""
so if the above is true Lindsey wanted Christine to come back full time and not just part time ("she can't just come and go" ;) ). seems like he's getting his wish. another several years of Big Machine. you got it Lindsey, you'll be getting your tours and your FM album, it seems. so as a solo fan, and as a person who does not like to go bankrupt , this is what i have to say to you Lindsey: :p:p:p:p:p

it's 2013! (soon to be 2014!) why would they need to be in the studio for a year?
men of mac needed less than a month to record 8 songs. stevie and lindsey needed 4 days to finish 2 of those songs and record another whole song.
they need to finish an album and a tour in 2014.

Former Fleetwood Mac band member Christine McVie working on new solo album marking a return to her 70's sound.
Former Fleetwood Mac band member Christine McVie chooses the Tracks of My Years
Monday 07 October 2013
BBC Radio 2 - Ken Bruce
This week, former Fleetwood Mac band member Christine McVie chooses the Tracks Of My Years and she opens with a classic Beach Boys song from their groundbreaking album Pet Sounds along with a Steely Dan track featured on their acclaimed long player Gaucho. Plus there's the Record and Album Of The Week and the Monday round of PopMaster. Christine McVie joined Fleetwood Mac in 1970 while married to founder member John McVie. She left the band in 1998 shortly after Fleetwood Mac was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Christine is currently working on new solo material which is planned for a forthcoming album which she describes as marking a return to her musical sound from the seventies.

I agree with you elle he's not getting any younger, but the way it's looking it maybe a long time before we get a new Buckingham solo cd again, if ever. First Mick said Lindsey said wanted to make himself available to complete their story. Then there's still 5 unreleased songs we know of and Lindsey's been pushing for a new Fleetwood Mac CD for the last few years. Also, he and Stevie seem to be closer than ever to finally putting Buckingham Nicks out on CD, and then do some touring to back it up. So as much as I would love some new solo material I just don't' see it happening anytime soon.
Also It seems like this interview may have been done in September when the band was in England because it says The Guardian talked to Chris and Stevie together and their interview will be published later this year.
I do find it kinda odd that Chris has said no one's talked to her about re-joining the band. I mean I know John's gotta get well first, but everyone keeps saying his cancer was caught early and that he should have a fairly quick recovery, so it seems like they could or should have discussed it hypothetically when they were all together.
But then maybe they have discussed it since this interview took place. Because it sounds like Chris did the interview with Stevie sitting next to her, and maybe she told the interviewer she wanted to rejoin Fleetwood Mac so Stevie would know she was ready to come back and the two of them could have discussed her rejoining the band (and maybe even discussed it with the rest of the band) after they were done with the interview.

I always thought that Christine wanted to record with them. I've thought that since SYW, but I never thought that she would want to tour again or sound excited the way she does in the Guardian comments. So, that's a surprise.

I don't think FM will ever do a farewell tour. They've said they plan on touring till one of them dies and since you never know when that might be, you can never plan a Farewell Tour.

I'm so happy at the prospect. What's not to love for LIndsey and Stevie? They are getting older and wouldn't have to sing lead on as many songs. Much easier for them this way.

Lindsey seems a little ambiguous about it in the interviews he's given. This interview (http://kearth101.cbslocal.com/2012/12/04/lindsey-buckingham-on-christine-mcvie-she-didnt-have-to-burn-as-many-bridges-as-she-did/) is probably the best example.
“Well, that’s a good question! It’s an odd thing for me, in many ways I’m having a better time in the band as a foursome, only because it opens up a range of things that I can do. Except for maybe ‘Don’t Stop,’ we don’t do a lot of her stuff. It opens up the amount of material we can play, it allows me to be more of a ‘guy,’ to be more of who I am up there,” he explains, saying that without a keyboardist in the band, his guitar takes center stage.” I would be shocked if she ever expressed any interest to do anything with us. Shocked and pleased.”
My HUNCH is having an enthusiastic Christine back would help his big wish for the band, which can be found in this interview (http://www.hitfix.com/news/fleetwood-macs-lindsey-buckingham-on-stevie-nicks-and-the-wait-for-a-new-album/2) come true.
"If it were up to me, what I would do is go into the studio with Fleetwood Mac and actually finish an album and put out a whole album. Maybe look at stringing not a whole year, but a big chunk of time behind that [to tour] and do something that we have not done in years and years, which is string a few experiences together without these long breaks. "

it's 2013! (soon to be 2014!) why would they need to be in the studio for a year?
men of mac needed less than a month to record 8 songs. stevie and lindsey needed 4 days to finish 2 of those songs and record another whole song.
they need to finish an album and a tour in 2014.
Hahaha, don't get me wrong, the sooner the better! I would love love love love them to release an album in 2014 AND begin a tour. However, this is Fleetwood Mac we are talking about! If the Rumours five are rejoining and making their first album together since 1987, they are going to require it to be PERFECT. Fleetwood Mac has not hurried to record an album since 1975 and I don't see them doing it now, but we can keep our fingers crossed! :]

They're very different people in very different times. With technology, sobriety, maturity, and an outside producer who can keep them focused, it could easily be done in a month or two.

What about DVD sales? They are sure to release a DVD commemorating Christine's return. If they can sell the broadcast to some cable channel, maybe they can make money off of that first. And then put out a dvd of the show. Then, tour, like they did with The Dance.
The whole "first time in 16 years angle" gives them a new way to promote it and maybe will give big boys like Live Nation more interest in throwing new money at them.

Well here it is folks.. Think of it this way.. If the promoters are pissed that Christine isn't doing Amsterdam and Berlin.. then that's because........
Having Christine in the mix.. makes a very different ticket price.. and a very different marketing product. And the truth of the matter is, the Rumours line up is not only a cash cow, but it has that magic creatively.
Face it.. FMac with just Buckingham/Nicks is tired..
I would rather just get solo from LB and SN.
(I know a lot of people like B/N and buy it over and over again.) But from an artistic view, it's tired in my opinion and doesn't sound good at all. If you don't believe me.. listen to, "Don't Stop" London without Christine... then listen to it 9/25/13 with her. It's unreal how having the 5 fireflies together, (even for a moment) brings the magic out...
Her keys were so bluesy and she even had a terse little solo in there. The the band came to life again for me. Plus, I haven't seen Stevie that happy in a long time with the band. Mick too actually..
Bottom line... It can only help them musically and financially to have all 5 of them up there again recording and performing. I'm with Elle on this one. No more B/N!! it's awful. give me solo instead, unless you come back as 5.

Ok. Let me look at my agenda. And this is not what I want, it's just what I think. Although, I don't want you to have OMS2 until 2016, that much is true.
Make up dates for the rest of this tour this year. But those take place from June through the end of the year. They don't start early 2014 year. The tour this year doesn't include Christine, although I think that Mick might want her to play Glastonbury. So, maybe. Then, they work on the album this year as well. Then they tour as five in 2015.

All I would say about John is that they have a party line and Christine knows the talking points and gave those talking points. The only new information we have about John is that he is undergoing treatment in Los Angeles, which I thought and hoped and am glad to have confirmed.
Based on their last concert appearances, I think they looked pretty happy, for the most part, so I believe them all that they expect him to be up and about soon -- even for Vegas.
But it's also clear that they have agreed upon what they are going to say to the press. Which is fine.
We heard them in that car that time, with Christine asking Mick what to say about Lindsey's epilepsy and Mick told her she couldn't say it was epilepsy and I think this is similar. They have discussed how to address the question and Christine said what John Mayall said.

I think so. And remember with that, Mick had already said that she'd probably do something and she just confirmed it. So, I take her comments about rejoining the band as more of a confirmation than a hope for a request that will "delight" her.
But yes, by putting it in the press, it's something that they will ask you about forever if it does not happen and something that will generate publicity if it does. So, no way was it an innocent, offhand comment. This was a great way to start the public relations ball rolling on that subject.
It's the same thing Mick and Lindsey have done earlier this year with their comments to the press. It's like a backdoor way to make things happen within FM.

I'd never claim that Stevie is ego-less -- that'd be ridiculous. But I don't think she has quite the ego you suspect she has, Elle. I believe it's unlikely that she'd make any kind of money demands that could potentially prevent Christine's involvement. I think Stevie has a massive ego, but I also think Elle answered her own question. Stevie can easily make up any money she loses via solo touring, so I don't see the FM split as a concern for Stevie at all.
Lindsey might not make as much as he does w/o Christine there, but If they tour after 2014 and make an album, that's something extra that he never would have gotten w/o Christine anyway.

I don't want to derail this thread, so this will have to be a conversation for another day... but I don't think Stevie has a "massive ego" in these regards. She certainly can exhibit quite an inflated sense of her own importance (but I think most people who've been famous for nearly 40 years, share that quality), but no one else in the band (except maybe Mick) ever seems as genuinely thrilled to share a stage with someone else, as Stevie does. Whether it's someone as hugely famous as Tom Petty or a semi-celeb like Vanessa Carlton.
Beyond that, I do agree with you that Stevie would and could make up for any "losses" via her solo work.

I agree that Stevie is eager to share the stage with Christine and certainly loved her Tom Petty cameos. She worships Petty. She can also be a very generous person, but I think she has a massive ego. I don't think one thing discounts the other.
So no I don"t agree with you that Elle miscalculated the size of Stevie's ego. I just think she is wrong about Stevie being concerned with a lesser split for adding Chris. Stevie has other ways to make money outside of FM.

Lindsey, Stevie, and Mick all have bigger egos than Chris or John. I'm not saying that they're not nice, loving, or generous, but they can think highly of themselves. I think that Stevie would be willing to take a pay cut to have Chris back.

Again, you are basing these numbers off the original post which is based purely on theory.
Why does Stevie have to take a 37.5% pay cut while Lindsey only takes a 17% cut and using those figures she suffers the most...
She doesn't. IMHO the band sets up a certain amount of dates to earn a certain amount of money to accomodate all 5 of their needs. Extra dates are added if they want to earn more money because expenses were higher than planned or they just add dates for the pure enjoyment of playing to a live audience.:p

I believe Stevie said in an interview not too long ago that at this point in her life she did not need the money and that for her going back to Fleetwood Mac fills an emotional need in her because they are all team. So I don't think Stevie will have any problems with Christine rejoining the group. As to her management team, Stevie's fired her manager before and she very well could do it again if this is something she really wants.
The argument that the band let Lindsey come back, so they should let Christine come back, doesn't seem like a viable argument to me either. It's like comparing apples to oranges. When Lindsey came back the band had completely broken up. There was NO Fleetwood Mac at that time and after Lindsey left in 87 the band pretty much fell apart. The band has been intact with just these 4 members since about 2002 and their popularity is continuing to increase. Whether it's because they are riding a wave of popularity from college kids or something else I don't know, but they have become very popular again in the last 3-4 years without Christine.
I don't want to start up any Lindsey bashing because he very well could welcome Christine back with open arms. However, I have always thought and still do that (as much as I love him) any problems with Christine rejoining the band will come from Lindsey.
Lindsey will take a hit financially if Christine rejoins. Though like Stevie he can make some of his losses up with his solo work even thought it's not as profitable for him as it is for her.
But money aside, Lindsey has never appeared to be money driven like some of the other band members, and I think he would be willing to take a decrease in the profits if necessary. What Lindsey has always cared about was making the best music possible. Many fans say that artistically adding Christine to the band only make since musically because her voice adds another layer to the bands sound and of the 3 her songs are the most successful commercially and I agree with that.
But it's hard to tell if Lindsey agrees with that or not. Maybe he was upset Christine left the band. Maybe he was mad when he said he enjoyed the dynamics of the band better with just the 4 members and maybe when he said Christine couldn't just come and go he was just trying to pin her down and not let her overshadow the band. Who knows
Also, (I believe) all of those quotes were made before the band knew John had cancer. I think John's cancer diagnosis has made the band members look at the fact that nothing last forever (like Lindsey said in his "Say Goodbye" dedication to Stevie) and that hopefully has made them kinder to each other. Hopefully, it has also made Stevie realize that she may not have a lot more time to create new music with the band and if they are going to make a new CD they need to get it going as soon as possible.

And how well did that work out for Mick???
Mick did the same thing back in 2009 when he started making plans for 2010but then Stevie told him the way it was going to be and took 3 yes THREE years off...
I'm not saying Stevie will do that again but if she's planning on making another record he may not be able to change her mind...
Stevie is well aware that she's nearing the end of the road and has said so...She specifically has mentioned the fact that she has to be careful what projects she chooses to spend her time on and doesn't know if she want's to spend 2 or 3 years on a full scale outing...
Perhaps she could compromise...If Lindsey already has songs "in the can" and Stevie decides to record a solo album is there any reason why she could not send Lindsey tracks for her songs for FM while she works on her thing...
If Stevie records in "the big house" again she wouldn't be far from Bucky's studio...

As for FM's recent surge in popularity look no further than Stevie Nicks...Stevie has been tirelessly promoting herself as well as FM since she started work on "IYD" and it paid off...
Stevie and Lindsey have both said it would be nice to go out the same way they came in and that is as Buckingham/Nicks...Stevie & Lindsey are going to have to make a decision here between Solo-Buckingham/Nicks or FM because I don't see all these things getting done...
It's possible Lindsey may not want Christine keeping him in check if you will...
Lindsey puts a lot of effort into his work so I don't think he wants anyone saying "Oh you had to bring Christine back in order to make a good record"

I don't understand why Stevie is even being discussed as the obstacle for Christines return to FM, when its so obvious she honestly misses her very much. Why would she have a problem sharing the stage with Chris if she was willing to share it with Shery Crow during the SYW tour. She and Mick are the only members who even mention Christine during her absence. I'm sure that decades of enormous amounts of power, money and adoration have left them all with huge egos, but Chris is her equal, and a key ingredient in making FM what it is today - a cult band. She is also the only one of them that has a huge career outside of the band, therefore the least dependent of the money they make touring. If there is anyone who would be less then thrilled to see Chris back to the band it's Lindsey. Musically he was happy to fill the gap in the bands sound without a keyboard player. Financially he depends on the money he makes with FM almost as much as Mick and John, since his solo career wouldn't get him a job as an opening act for artists that were opening acts for Stevie. Finally, didn't Christine herself said she doesn't have any kind of relationship with him, and doesn't consider him a friend? And we all know he is a control freak to a degree where he would choose what Stevie could wear on stage. So beside all this, and Christine pointing him out in a recent interview, the problem is still Stevie. Funny...
What I do believe is happening is that Christine is on board at least for an album, and they are waiting for John to get well. I was worried how serious John's condition really was, but after Christine's announcement she might be joining the band again, I believe they really caught his cancer in an early stage. There's no way in hell they would let such news go public if his life was threatened.

But unlike Stevie and Christine, he would surely like to financially secure the future of his three children.
Personally, I miss her playing way more. Her style really thickens the sound and makes it richer. I don't think they will ever have another monster hit in the future, no matter who writes the songs. It's more likely for an old song to be rediscovered by a new generation like Everywhere was after the pony commercial.

This I think is partially true. If I remember correctly Lindsey did say that originally he was trying to get his solo work out and that he was hoping FM would drum up more interest in him so he could get WB to release it.
But then WB came back and agreed to release the CD provided he keep Mick on the drums and wanted to bill it with Lindsey and Mick doing promotions together. Lindsey however scrapped that idea because he was already talking to FM about touring and that was moving forward so he left his solo work behind, which he did NOT have to do.

I though about this but I wasn't going to bring it up. Neither was going to bring up Micks comment that things were as they were suppose to be with Buckingham Nicks up front and Fleetwood Mac in the back.
But again, if Christine was willing to rejoin Mick would be the first one to welcome her back with open arms.

Honestly, I don't think Lindsey is trying to block her return. He just wants her to be a full partner in the process. While I don't think that's necessary I do see why he feels it is. In truth, I think he'd be elated to work with her again. A lot of what seems like resistance to her presence is related to her two-off performances in London...a very specific case.

although i don't really buy that he resisted her performing with them in London (or if he did, that would be for the 1st date - because of that idiotic reviews reason - not the other 2), since he said earlier in the year that he would 1) love it if she'd come on the stage and do a song with them, and 2) be shocked and pleased if she decides to come back to FM.

Not exactly. The original "Gift of Screws" is pretty much why Mick split up Fleetwood Mac in 1996. Mick and Lindsey reconnected towards the end of the recording of "Time" and Lindsey asked Mick to play on his album. All of that lead to "The Dance." After "The Dance," there was a changing of the guard at Warners, and Lindsey sat on the album for a few years, debating whether or not to release it as a solo album or as part of a Fleetwood Mac album (since Mick and the McVies were on it), and he decided it would be better received as part of a Fleetwood Mac project.

Lindsey, Stevie, and Mick all have bigger egos than Chris or John. I'm not saying that they're not nice, loving, or generous, but they can think highly of themselves. I think that Stevie would be willing to take a pay cut to have Chris back.
Yes, when Stevie said she would give Christine $5,000,000 I think she might have been exaggerating just a little, but she'd give up a lot of profit herself to make that work one last time.

I wonder if it would be less actual dollars or just less of a percentage. Having Christine back would command a higher ticket price (how much, I don't know), so it's possible that Stevie would make the same with Christine than without. Either way, I'm sure she's not as concerned about the money as she is getting Christine back in the band at this point. Also, I wonder if it would be "one last time" or if there would be more.

And we all know he is a control freak to a degree where he would choose what Stevie could wear on stage. So beside all this, and Christine pointing him out in a recent interview, the problem is still Stevie. Funny...
Christine didn't point Lindsey out in a recent interview. The interviewer asked her about him and she answered.
And while she said they weren't friends socially when he left in 1987, she also said she wanted to work with him again and said that she hoped they would. She didn't say that had no relationship, not since she left the group in 1998. I do recall that in about 2003 when asked if he'd been in touch with the band over the holidays Lindsey said something like he hadn't talked to Christine much since she left and had no real relationship with John outside of the band. And Christine also said she hadn't been in touch with Lindsey although she emailed and talked with the others at various times, John and Mick sometimes, Mick and Stevie at others. But there have also been years when she said she and Stevie hadn't been in touch and she and John hadn't been in touch.
As for Stevie's grandmother sweater, she says he asked her if she had to dress so flashy or something. She didn't say he told her to wear a granny sweater or otherwise selected her clothes and about 35 years ago she said that he didn't like the way she dressed because he didn't like all the men looking at her, but Stevie saying that Lindsey objected to an outfit is a far cry from proof that Lindsey is such a control freak that he wants to dictate what she wears on stage anymore than it is evidence that he has forbidden her from removing her mic from its stand. I say things to my friends and relatives all the time about their hair, clothes, what tv shows they should watch and movies they should see or shouldn't. I even told my mother she should have consulted with me about her cataract surgery just the other day. I am constantly telling them what they shouldn't do and what possessions of theirs I don't like, but they don't listen to me and I'm not dictating to them. I am stating an opinion to people I know will listen if they feel like or not, if they think I'm being an idiot.

I don't know. They might make less. I'm not sure that they could command a higher ticket price, because I don't think the average concert goer (not us) values her return that much. I don't know if the average concert knew she was gone. I don't think they would feel, "I wouldn't pay this extra $20 for a ticket, if it wasn't for Christine." Of course, WE say that, but we are the few, the proud, the Marines.
But if Christine doesn't return they won't be touring again until 2016 anyway. I'm not saying that there is any validity to Stevie's 3 year rule, but I do think Lindsey and Mick couldn't have gotten the band back together for another tour before that and Lindsey has wanted an album, but I don't know if he was making any headway in convincing Stevie. So, if he has less of a percentage with Christine, it's still MORE than he would have gotten without her return.

I have been a fan since the 1970s and had seen them on every tour since Tusk .I sat out 2009 and 2013 though. If however Christine returns I'll pay whatever high ticket price comes up.I also believe that if she really wants to return she can.Stevie by all indications wants her back badly and it is totally within her character to issue an ultimatum like Christine either is allowed to rejoin or I leave too.Which would leave the band playing tiny venues for pocket change.

no they didn't. and the men of mac were planning as recent as the beginning of october adding another leg in the spring of 2014 as well as glasto and possibly more european dates. as far as the market goes, i could see another leg - but with Christine - more of a possibility than a separate tour in 2015, depending on how John's doing. but i guess if they have a new album out they would bill it is supporting that album.
in fact, they should have Christine with them in Vegas on 30th. those tickets are twice the price that their regular 2013 shows were anyway.

interesting - wonder how they count their "12 months"? stones didn't tour the whole year so maybe their 2-3 months of touring are averaged over 12 months. something similar with the eagles.
i'm lazy to look but there are several threads on this board listing average prices, tickets sold, and overall income made during this year.
when i looked up tickets for these bands i was stunned with the prices, and thought "who is buying those??". maybe the spread between highest and lowest available tix was much larger for the eagles and BJ than the mac? idk. (not talking about stones, their tickets were off the charts, i don't know that there is currently any other band or performer that can charge those prices.)

Bon Jovi should not even be compared to those two bands. However, they are much bigger then the Eagles outside the US. They made a fantastic transition to younger audiences with their 2000 album Crush. Its My Life was an enormous hit all over Europe, and I remember they were easily able to fill 40000+ stadiums not so long ago. I dont know what their ticket prices are, but I doubt I would make an effort to see them live if I had a front row ticket for free.

that said, i agree with your point - they don't have much more space to go up, price-wise.

i know for sure Mick and Lindsey both wanted it. i was counting on Stevie to nix that. but now if Christine is in the picture, don't think Stevie would be an obstacle anymore, if John is up for it.
I'm sure if they tour again the promoters are going to want to know what the back up plan is incase John becomes ill again...I hope that's not the case but with cancer you never can be sure...

The Dance hit harder than focused fans could have dreamed it would. But I don't know if that was PR or just the state the world was in at the time. And there was the Clinton bump too.
Well, Viacom (MTV), ClearChannel, Warner Bros., Ticketmaster, et.al. all had a lot invested in making that album a hit.
The Clinton thing hurt their image more than helped, IMO, and "The Dance" helped restore their image.

Who in their right mind would pay $346 to see 4 ugly men in their 70s play? I'm sorry, I know that the Stones are gods(without them, my favorite bands probably wouldn't exist), but still that's too much dough to fork over.
I wonder how much a meet and greet would cost? $25,000?

I'd say an album because she has material already ready for a "solo" album(possibly ).
With regard to Stevie's perceived ego, I never considered it to be out of control in the past, but these days it seems to be off the Richter scale. This realisation has been difficult for me to accept because previously, I idolised the woman. I still retain a profound regard for her body of work up until 1990 and various output since, but the sense of self-importance that has become so evident during interviews in recent years has left me cold. I'm not sure if this inflation of ego has been in response to what she considers the mistreatment and disrespect afforded to her in the past by band members, producers and critics, but whatever it might be, she is no longer a person I would care to know.

Well, both Mick and Christine have said that she's been writing songs. I think she would like to record first. Also, although I think Christine now accepts travel as a necessity, I can't imagine she's just itching to get back on the road ASAP. I think re-bonding with the people creatively in a studio for a few months and then planning a tour after would be the natural assimilation process and in keeping with what they have done in the past.

I suspect it's the last one. That being said, if I were her, I'd want to do a short tour with them again first to get back into the groove of being in the band, which would make for a stronger album. On that note, I'd hope they'd go right into the studio following the tour.

That's always the risk with them. I suspect they'd all be on their best behavior. I could be wrong, but I thought she was part of the band's entourage in Europe. I wonder how that went.
Please don't misunderstand me, I am impressed with Stevie's prolific output of late and what appears to be a renewed vigour regarding creativity, but I don't care for her persona. I believe she would have forgone this year's Mac tour and commenced another solo album with Dave if she'd followed her heart, but she seemingly bowed to the pressures of the band. However, I simply don't like the person she has become, as evidenced in the press and particularly what was on display during the In Your Dreams documentary. Horses for courses I guess...

Can we PLEASE let this one thread, just this ONE thread, not be about Stevie Nicks? This is about Christine McVie returning to Fleetwood Mac after nearly 17 years of absence. This is HUGE. We never thought it would happen. And it looks like it just might now. Can we keep it to that? Christine's return deserves better respect than this thread is giving her.
We should be talking about where Chris goes from here. Where would the band record a new album? LA? England Hawaii? Does this mean Chris might return to the US in some capacity? Would the band record an album or tour with her first? Was there a watershed event that could have happened in Chris life to precipitate her wanting to rejoin the band? What do we think Chris would have to say about an outside producer for a new album? Would she write songs from scratch for a new album, or would she simply modify the ones she's been recording for her solo album we've heard about? There are so, so many questions I have... and none of them have anything to do with Stevie freaking Nicks. :sorry:

Hell, I want to talk about songs that could be added to the set-list, but I know that's way too early.
(BTW, I'd love for just Mick, John, and Christine to play the "O.K. Ken?" version of "Get Like You Used To Be (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8F061LCJ4Q)" after the Stevie-Lindsey acoustic set to celebrate their histories with the British blues scene.)

As I already said, I think Christine is already onboard for a project with FM, probably an album, without any other member of the band having issues with her rejoining. What I find ridiculous is how this thread turned into a debate over Stevie not wanting Christine back in the band based on speculations of who gets how much money from touring. Does anybody believe Stevie to be such a crazy hypocrite not to want Chris back in the band, but repeating to the public over and over for fifteen years she does? What I said in my previous post might have come out a bit wrong since I cant quote the things they say in interviews word to word, but its clear from various occasions that Lindsey and Chris are not that close as friends. And even if he didn't single handedly picked Stevies granny sweater for the SYW tour, he had a great influence on her toning it down. Stevie rarely badmouths anybody, even when the person deserves it, so there must be a good reason why she was so pissed off at him after the tour. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he against Christine performing more then one song during the London shows? All of us would be ecstatic if she was allowed just a couple more songs, and closed the two shows with Songbird? What should be more important to them, a lousy review in a paper focusing on Christines performance, or thrilling thousands of fans with a rare treat, who by the way pay for their extravagant lifestyles and give them so much love? Don't get me wrong. I ADORE Lindsey as a guitarist, love him as a producer and a singer (I realized he was that good when I saw them live, because the full color of his voice doesn't transfer to tape completely), and most of the time not as much as a songwriter. I would be an ungrateful idiot not to appreciate the unmeasurable amount of joy they all as a group have brought to my life since I was a teen through their art, and I repeat: I am sure they would all be glad to have Chris back, and its probably going to happen, but if there was an unspecified band member who didn't want her back for whatever reason, based on their attitude it would be Lindsey. Unlike him, there is not a single thing, no matter how small, that indicates it could be Stevie or Mick, and I don't think that John cares that much, as long as he gets to play. I consider myself to be realistic towards musicians I love. I would never praise a ****ty peace of music they have done as a masterpiece (and even the best of them have their moments), nor would I justify if they acted as jerks. What I find unnecessary is perpetuating fictional malicious stories about artists we all love, for whatever personal reason people have.

I think Chris would have to come to the US. If she's going to be a full time member of the band again fleetwood mac would most definitely tour the US again and if John had not been diagnosed with cancer I think there was a very good chance the band would have continued the tour in 2014 because Stevie and Lindsey were getting along so well. I also think they would record in L.A. like they normally do. I can't see Lindsey up rooting his kids and moving them to London for several months to record a CD nor do I see him leaving his kids back in L.A. so he can go to London to record a new CD. It seems that Chris has been thinking about rejoining for awhile so I would suspect that any new song she's written was done so with the band in mind and that it can be converted from a solo into a song for the band in case she does rejoin them

Until these last few months, Stevie had not been in touch with Christine either. They are not close friends. Since 1987 right after he left the band, Christine has never suggested that she has anything against Lindsey. And once the frustration over his leaving was over, she began talking about how much she missed him and wished they could work together again. She said she got goose bumps hearing his voice with hers and Stevie's again. They reunited in 1997 and since then she hasn't said anything negative or distancing about Lindsey. I get the feeling they argued in 2003 when SYW was being produced. That's why I think she made some cracks about guitar solos when she was promoting Meantime that were directed at him and she also said that Tusk was a weird album and I think that was kind of targeted at him but until Stevie and Christine recently got together, there was nothing to suggest that, from Christine's perspective, she was any closer to Stevie than Lindsey or any more estranged from Lindsey than Stevie.
Now, HIS comments might suggest otherwise, but Christine has never said anything of the sort, except right after he quit the band in 1987, not since then.
And even if he didn't single handedly picked Stevies granny sweater for the SYW tour, he had a great influence on her toning it down.
And you think this why? Because Stevie said it? Not everyone believes everything that Stevie says. Stevie wore her SYW clothes offstage (including the time she introduced Tom Petty) when neither FM or Lindsey was around. I have to assume she wore the granny sweater because SHE liked it. Maybe she did tone it down because Lindsey commented on it. But I don't assume she did because SHE says it and someone commenting on your attire does not make them a control freak who wants to dress you.
Stevie just said that she thought Prince wanted a romance with her. She has said it before, but she said it again recently and all of the news wires carried the story. But Stevie's opinion about Prince's feelings for her don't make them true.
Your comment that she never badmouths anyone unless they deserve it presumes that Lindsey deserved it all of the 1000s of times she badmouthed him and I just don't buy that. There are two sides to every story. You have every right to choose to believe Stevie's but not everyone has to.

Bravo!!! The whole FM section is starting to look like a bunch of teenage girls fighting over which member of their favorite boy band is the best. Our beautiful girl is back. I remember buying ITM as soon as it was realised, and playing it to death. The production was lame, but her ability to craft a perfect pop-rock song is unbeatable. It had the sound component that Fleetood Mac lacks since she left. I pee of happiness a little every time I remember what greatnes might come out when those five combine again. Fleetwood Mac are one of the rare bands in wich all band members compliment each other musicaly to such a high degree.

We don't know and we'll never know. For my part, I guess just based on unsubstantiated rumors, I have always thought that Christine survived a health risk and that is what made her need to get away and find a new life, with the family she felt she'd neglected while being a rock star. That plus the divorce from Eddy.
So, I don't know why it took her 15 years rather than 5 to change her mind, but maybe she had something going on in her life that isn't going on any more and that's when she got lonely.

It was very interesting that one of the biggest British newspapers only gave them 3/5 stars for the first night in London (most reviews on the tour up to this point were 4/5 at least that I remember), with something about "Where was Christine?" in the headlines. The reviewer echoed a feeling of many people at the show - yes this is pretty good, but where is the other band member that really makes this a 5 star group. So keeping Christine of the stage that night didn't really work. Although I think it was the Financial times that gave them 4 or 5 stars, saying the night belonged to Lindsey and his eloquent guitar. (sorry if I've got any details wrong, please feel free to correct me)

I just want to make it clear before I set of another load of angry comments, that I don't blame Lindsey for Chris not playing that first London show. It did sound like Chris was willing to play, but it was a group decision that she didn't. I just don't think that playing 1 song at 2 shows, was the best decision for the fans, or the reviews.

Listen, I really think louielouie2000 has a point that this thread is going in a totaly wrong direcion. Is there any point in turning every damn thread into a SN vs. LB deathmahch? Lady, I love Lindsey as I already said. I am a fan, undersand? If he was the subject of a bashing with no base in reality, I would most certanly defend him too. I am really sick of typing long poinltess posts about this subject. You seem to ignore the main point of my posts and act as if I was attacking Lindsey. I AM NOT! In case you missed it the first 3-4 times, I am going to type it once more in bold letters. I think Chris is joining the band for at least an album, and everibody is happy with that, and they are up for a project as soon as John gets better, and possibly after the four piece lineup do the Australian leg of the tour. But in case an unindentified band member has something against it hypoteticaly, the least possible people to do so are Stevie and Mick based on fifteen years of statements in the media about her leaving. Therefore, I dont undersand how come this whole discussion developed into Stevie being against it. Does presening her as a two faced egomaniac based on pure speculation make any other band member a better person or a better artist? And yeah, I do thik I am pretty realistic, at least to the point I dont believe my musical heroes fart rainbows, which even you must have noticed is not always the case with some people.
It will come as no surprise to anyone that I am not a major fan of Christine's and yet I am thrilled beyond belief that she may be returning to the fold. My hope is that all five of them get down to business as soon as possible and commence work on an album (as a unit). I am not fussed about whether they tour or not and would actually be mightily pissed off if they went out on the road as a quintet before the recording of an album was undertaken.
Christine's recent compositions, whether written with a solo project in mind or not, will no doubt be re-fashioned by Lindsey and will be all the better for it. I was never fond of the In The Meantime album and believe the reason for this was the lacklustre production. Only recently have I discovered that some of those songs were half decent, but perhaps could have been transformed into something wonderful with a more inventive approach, the right rhythm section and those oh so unique vocal harmonies... Of course, many would say that the Say You Will album suffered in part due to the exclusion of Christine's presence. I must say I didn't miss her at the time of it's release, but upon reflection, believe certain songs could have benefited from her contributions (Illume comes to mind - a promising track just crying out for Chris's piano hooks and backing vocals).
The former stumbling block regarding a new album, Miss Nicks, will have to carefully consider her next move. If she has been writing for a solo album, will she hand over some of these, write specifically or dredge up some ancient demos? This is the perfect opportunity for the likes of The Dealer, China Doll, Mistaken Love and She Loves Him Still, amongst many others, to make their debut on record. Pull your finger out Madam!
As for Lindsey, well he must be torn because he wants this elusive album to come to fruition and yet perhaps does not wish to relinquish creative control as he no doubt will if Christine is on board. I imagine part of him relishes the chance to collaborate with her again after all this time, but it will come at a cost. As unfortunate as it may be, John's illness may just be the catalyst for all egos and differences to be put aside, once and for all. Trotters crossed...
PS How about "Fireflies" as a working title? Stevie's original composition could also make it's studio debut - now that would be something!

And yeah, I do thik I am pretty realistic, at least to the point I dont believe my musical heroes fart rainbows, which even you must have noticed is not always the case with some people.
Actually, the whole discussion didn't develop or devolve into Stevie being against Christine rejoining the band. That's just the way you perceived it. The discussion was actually about whether the band member split changes for five members vs. four members was going to be workable. A comment about whether or not Stevie could deal with the split resulted in you claiming that Lindsey was a control freak who dresses Stevie on stage. Presenting Stevie as a two-faced egomaniac achieves no more and no less than presenting Lindsey as a demonic control freak does.
Michele
Another thing - Christine attended the UK premiere of the In Your Dreams documentary with Stevie and Dave Stewart a couple of months ago. I wonder if this was the first time Christine and Dave had met and also whether Stevie had an ulterior motive for having them both accompany her? Never underestimate Madam when it comes to getting what she wants... Devious little minx!

How about "Fireflies" as a working title? Stevie's original composition could also make it's studio debut - now that would be something!
I think that is a very inspired idea.

As for Lindsey, well he must be torn because he wants this elusive album to come to fruition and yet perhaps does not wish to relinquish creative control as he no doubt will if Christine is on board.
I don't think he'd have any less control of the new album with Christine on board than he did on Tango. He'd just have fewer songs of his own. I don't think anyone is going to allow him another double album or 18-song album. So, there would probably just be 12 tracks and he would have 4, which might feel stifling for him. I think the space is more limiting for him with Christine than the creative control is, at least not on his and Christine's songs.
That brings us back to the question of whether or not they would still need an outside producer if Christine was there.
I have no doubt that Christine and Lindsey could work on their songs together, without a third party, but what about Stevie? The problem she had with Lindsey's production of her songs, probably would not be cured with Christine's return.
Would it be possible for someone of Stevie's choosing (not Mitchell Froom, certainly) to work on her songs or at least some of them, for an FM album? That's what Lindsey has to accept, I think. Let her do 3 songs under Dave's production and maybe just do one song with Lindsey (their Soldier's Angel for this album). I think that it would be hard for him to turn over those reins, but it may be a necessity to make this thing work happily for everyone.
Gotta say that I thought so much of Calumny and Northern Star that I hope that if Dan has written another nugget as good as those 2 were that Christine might hand it over for an FM recording.
Michele
Yep I'm in agreement concerning those two ITM songs; both lovely and restrained.
I also agree that Lindsey would have to sacrifice the number of tracks he has on the next Mac album, but I believe Christine contributes majorly to arrangement and production ideas. Whilst Lindsey may be appreciative of these contributions on one level, it will also intrude upon his vision and overall creative control (even if he enjoys the process and outcome).
It's possible Stevie might relax her attitude toward Lindsey producing her songs with Christine being present during the recording proceedings. Remember her recent inane comment about 'girl power' and all that nonsense.

But except for SYW, it's not as if Lindsey has had any experience working without Christine in the studio within Fleetwood Mac and I don't even think SYW was a 100% exception. I have to believe that SYHA and BTLH were served to us yet again on SYW because of Christine's contributions and not just her voice on the chorus, because we can only hear her faintly there, but because those songs were kind of structured with her keyboard in mind, even for Lindsey's solo album and that's how they got on SYW, because of Christine. To me, because of Warner Bros. or whomever, he's always had to work with Christine, sometimes even when she wasn't there.
Now if he envisioned something closer to BN for the next go round, then yes I can see what you mean that his plans will have to change, because I don't think that will be happening with Christine's return. But who knows if it was ever going to happen anyway.
As for Christine's songs, when she says she's getting back to her seventies sound, I don't even know what that means. Does she mean that her new songs are somehow different than her Meantime songs were? Because aren't Friend and You Are trying for that same sound? In the audio clip it almost sounded as if she was saying she's returning to a form she had abandoned, but I don't know what distinction she was trying to make. Except for Time, since the seventies, when did her sound change to an extent that she thinks she has to revert?
Maybe that comment was code for: "My new songs have a place for harmonies, from voices other than my own. Good harmonies not whatever it was my nephew did to Bad Journey."

can you give a bit more details, i've never heard/read that and would love to? was that in 1993 or 1997? i would be surprised if he said in 1997, but i thought he was saying the opposite in 1993?

not about SN??? how do you mean?? don't you know you are on TL? ;)
Would she write songs from scratch for a new album, or would she simply modify the ones she's been recording for her solo album we've heard about?
those songs ARE the ones that were planned for an FM album, i don''t have much doubt about that.

I wonder if she sold her house in Kent?
I just want to make it clear before I set of another load of angry comments, that I don't blame Lindsey for Chris not playing that first London show. It did sound like Chris was willing to play, but it was a group decision that she didn't. I just don't think that playing 1 song at 2 shows, was the best decision for the fans, or the reviews.
she should have played 2 Dublin shows too. and maybe some of the other ones where she was in town with them, if she wanted to (she may have been with them the whole European leg?). but we have no way of knowing what she wanted, how many shows, songs, etc.
many people who didn't get to see the shows with Christine would always feel like they should have gotten the opportunity too. Mick and SN said it will be 2nd and 3rd London shows, and people flew in from the US specifically for those 2 shows. so it's not like it was a surprise, which shows. we were hoping for more, but it didn't happen. i'm secretly hoping she'll join them in Vegas on 30th, but that doesn't mean it will happen.
someone asked how did she like being in their entourage, this tour. well, judging by her saying she would like to rejoin, is there really much doubt?

I'd love it if they made a 5 piece FM- album and toured it. As long as she promises NEVER to play Little Lies, EVER, I'll be happy. I'm certain that it will increase te vocal blend live and in the studio. And I'm convinced that Lindsey really looks forward to record with her again, and hold back a little on stage. He already did this last tour.

thanks! wow, so Lindsey said in 1993 that he sees no reasons NOT to return to FM?? what does that mean? i mean he toured solo and FM did another album without him after or in that timeframe? does it mean he said he'd come back after Clinton thing and FM said no?
(sorry louie, to pursue this about LFB, but i've always heard exactly the opposite, so this is a revelation to me.)
I wonder if she sold her house in Kent?
nah... i wouldn't if i was her. but she can maybe rent or buy something in LA or HI if this all goes well...
Where would the band record a new album? LA? England Hawaii? Does this mean Chris might return to the US in some capacity?
i think for the parts they can't do long distance / phone /skype / whatever, they will probably record in Lindsey's studio in LA, same as what they did with the 9 songs they recorded so far, last year.
Would the band record an album or tour with her first?
i think they may do both. i think if John is doing fine, they probably already said yes to Glasto. so i think they'll have some tour dates towards the summer.
now re AUS/NZ, they seem to like going there when it's summer, so if they can't make it by March (and they probably won't be able to), they will not either do that leg in 2014, or they will again schedule it towards the end of the year.
What do we think Chris would have to say about an outside producer for a new album? Would she write songs from scratch for a new album, or would she simply modify the ones she's been recording for her solo album we've heard about?
i'm thinking she might be pretty easy-going towards outside producer or not. Lindsey has been adamant about outside producer, so to me it's a no-brainer there will be one for most songs. now if some of the songs are produced by Froom, while others are produced by someone else (like SN-LB produced WY), there will be non-cohesiveness in the album that everybody will complain about. so i'm curious to see how that will go.

it was a code for "these songs are fleetwood mac-y"
But I think Meantime songs were Fleetwood Mac-y. And I think she did too because she did interviews and the questioner said that to her and one time she laughed and said, that was because she wrote all the FM hits. And then she said that it was because she'd learned a lot from Lindsey.
I was thinking about it and Time did not sound as hooky from her and maybe Tusk too, except for Think About Me. But most of her other music since the seventies has been of a pattern from which I hadn't noticed her deviate. But if she sees a distinction in the phases of her music, I'd like to hear her talk about that at greater length.
I'm not a Paul McCartney fan, but I've heard him discuss Early Days and say it's about hearing things about the Beatles that aren't true and thinking that those people weren't there, but he was and you can never take that away from him and some of his comments made me think about FM and I hope that Christine returning will be the occasion for them to do great interviews for posterity.
They don't all 5 have to sit down together. In fact, it's best if they AREN'T together and are alone and can talk more freely. But I'd like some whole group interviews. I hope Playboy asks them for one where they ask them all the same questions individually. Because of their age, I think we need a big comprehensive interview -- that's not about Rumours.

I don't think Lindsey actually wanted an outside producer to free him up, so he wouldn't have to worry about all of that. I think he knew he would have to have one for Stevie and that's why he said that.

Michele
i think there are 2 parts of why imo he may be very open to outside producer:
1) he said he didn't want to put himself in the situation he was in with SYW again, when he dd tons of work only to be piled on for it afterwards.
and
2) pattern of his most recent work and collaborations, from Jon Brion, through Reznor, and Mitchell Froom to me says he's been actually enjoying working with people who have something to add to his approach, even when not with FM.
so i think he is very much open to an outside producer, and i don't see him taking producing of the whole album on himself again.
That's what I got out of it too!
and when you have a christine fan and a lindsey fan coming to the same conclusion, you know we must be right!
Hell, I want to talk about songs that could be added to the set-list, but I know that's way too early.
Haha, I've been waiting for the set list wishes to show up actually!! I'd love for Chris to think outside of the box with what she would bring to a hypothetical future FM set, but my guess is the likely return of Say You Love Me, You Make Loving Fun, Songbird, Everywhere...maybe Oh Daddy too. Personally, if Chris were to return, I'd like to see her resurrect a few pre-1975 songs into the mix.

And I really don't see him as collaborating with anyone that much, not as much as he did in the seventies and eighties. To me, he's more isolated than he's ever been, rather than reversing that pattern.
I actually think it would benefit him to have some outside production or at least a third ear, on his solo endeavors. If he was doing that more, I'd be inclined to agree with you that he'd be open to doing it with the Mac.
As far as them doing it piecemeal goes and having different producers on different tracks, I think we already have a problem with cohesion as things now stand. If they put the EP songs on the album with the songs Lindsey already recorded with Mick and John and don't have Froom working on the new Stevie and Christine songs too.
I hope that the EP songs won't be on the album as well. I want 12 new songs. They can use the songs that Lindsey had already if he really likes them, but don't use what's already been recorded. Record again.
Also, if the songs Lindsey already recorded were not edgy, I think he should do new ones and be a little quirky and let Christine bring the more traditional ones to the table.

That would be a nice surprise for sure. I always felt Chris should have included it in the 1987-88 Mac shows. The song has basically faded into obscurity by now but I sure wouldn't mind hearing the band play it.

i fully expect those songs are not edgy. they are, after all, fleetwood mac-y. ;)
i agree with you re EP, that's exactly what i was referring to. what they put out on EP was not cohesive because of different producers. so imo, Froom should produce the rest of the album, too.
i don't see SN being completely set on Dave Stewart and closed off to a vast world of opportunity out there, i'd give her more credit than that. i believe she'd be open to giving someone else a chance and see what happens. plus if Dave is brought in, he seems like a person who can easily work with others, and i don't think he'd have much problem with Froom having the reigns.
maybe i'm too idealistic?
i mean why wouldn't SN want to try Froom? do we know that she dislikes his style? or would it be because Lindsey brought him in? in that case, wouldn't that be extremely childish? i would like to think these people have grown up at least some and can be more professional than that.

I do wonder how many people in the audience would remember it once the chorus started. Something they hadn't thought about in almost 30 years.
I mentioned Calumny and Northern Star before and I just love them so much. I would like to know if Lindsey has heard Christine's album. I want him to hear those. If Stars Are Crazy and Shut Us Down inspired him and made him want to use them (or Blue Letter too, if you want to go old school), then I would hope Calumny and Northern Star might speak to him, especially given her amazing vocals on them, and make him wonder about the FM possibilities. What could the group bring to those gems that deserve wider exposure.

i agree they have been. periods i'd consider "edgy" though don't seem to be well liked FM periods among the majority of their fans (sweeping generalization, i know). i'm mostly talking about a lot of Tusk and some of Lindsey's SYW songs, btw, as "edgy".

I think they'll record together before touring. Just seems like there've been a lot of signs that they'd lean in that direction. I also think, considering John's health, recording an album would afford him more time to fully recuperate after chemo & all of its side-effects (which my brother is experiencing right now).
Probably the least time-consuming and economical choice, would be to "open up" the mixes on Lindsey's remaining five songs, so that Christine can add keyboards and she & Stevie can add backing vocals (much as they did with the original 'Gift of Screws' songs that were folded into 'Say You Will'), as opposed to starting completely from scratch.
From there, they can focus on recording Chris & Stevie's tracks -- which might not take too terribly long, depending on how fully realized the demos are.
If it all comes to fruition, there's certainly a lot to be excited about.

I apologize for a third message in a row, but in my excitement at all of these prospects, I have to add that I hope 'Mirage' and 'Tango' finally get the expanded & remastered treatment. That would certainly be something to whet our appetites, in the lead up to a new release.

agree with you. except, Lindsey's GOS tracks were meant to be solo, while his tracks recorded last year were meant to have SN's vocals on it from the start. so i don't think they have to "open up" anything, i think these were never "closed" or completed in the first place. Christine's contributions to these tracks should add richness they would never have without her.

Yes, I was wondering about his sessions with respect to Vegas. I guess he could do it and still be in treatment. I can't remember exactly what my mother's schedule was, but she had colon cancer in 2002 and after her surgery she, I think, had as much as a 2 week interval of time between chemo. It of course varies from person to person and cancer to cancer, but it wasn't at all the grueling experience where she was sick for 3 days straight and then when she started to feel better, it was time to go under again. She actually remained very active throughout, BUT she caught an infection and that derailed her.

agree with you. except, Lindsey's GOS tracks were meant to be solo, while his tracks recorded last year were meant to have SN's vocals on it from the start. so i don't think they have to "open up" anything, i think these were never "closed" or completed in the first place. Christine's contributions to these tracks should add richness they would never have without her.
Oh, you're definitely right about that. My comment about Chris & Stevie adding backing vocals was more secondary to the thought of Christine adding keyboards. Unless my ears are deceiving me, "Miss Fantasy" and "Sad Angel" don't have any keyboards. Yet they feel fully realized, instrumentally. So if the remaining five tracks sound similar, then some part of their current instrumentation would probably have to be stripped away for Christine to contribute.

My brother has his treatments every other week. His started in September and will run through the second week of February. It's usually not until Wednesday or Thursday of the week following treatment, that he starts to feel better. But, yeah, it's so hard to say in consideration to John, because we don't know what kind of cancer he has, what stage it was in when he was diagnosed, or the extent of his treatments.

Lol! Well, if song trilogies follow the fate of movie trilogies, then "You and I, Part III" should be pretty great. The first in a movie series is always stellar and gets things off to a great start. The middle movie is entertaining but leaves something to be desired. Then the third wraps it all up so wonderfully, that it makes you want to buy the Complete Trilogy boxed-set in every configuration possible. ;)

I apologize for a third message in a row, but in my excitement at all of these prospects, I have to add that I hope 'Mirage' and 'Tango' finally get the expanded & remastered treatment. That would certainly be something to whet our appetites, in the lead up to a new release.
I had just posted a short review of the 1969-1972 box set earlier, when I thought of Mirage and Tango and how maybe they could be put in a collection together. Well, to be fair BTM and Time could go in there as well.
although i'm pretty sure i'm older than you ;). and my little 10 yo loved finding the gramophone and all the old records in one of the boxes, when we were moving stuff around. now my kids are fighting in whose room that stuff will be, treating it like some hidden long lost treasure.
Right now I feel especially crazy because cbsnew.com has been doing four days of live streaming coverage of JFK news, as it actually happened in real time. I would love to have it on DVD, but it's just streaming online.
Now, with Fleetwood Mac, I save some of the Youtube clips using keepvid, but there's about 50 hours of JFK coverage and it would be hard to "download," to say the least.
I listen to two guys who love Mike Nesmith and they were saying that Nesmith just did a tour this year and he has put together a live recording with four different versions for sale. You can buy one with just the songs and not Nesmith's introductions and one with the introductions included (that reminded me of Lindsey's speeches:)) and I just thought, "How come everyone else's fans have everything and we have so little?"

I find it hard to believe that Lindsey wouldn't want Christine to rejoin the band, especially if it means recording a new album and touring.
With the complete lineup (hope John will get better) they would sell far more albums and tickets. Lindsey would want her.
Well for me personally, I'm all for Christine coming back in. I've never seen them all together live in person, so I think it's great. I'd even sit in the nosebleed section of the Wells Fargo Center in Philly if need be. I just want to set them ALL together again. And it would be even better still if they all would put out a new FM CD.
Lee :)

my feelings exactly!
i've been to tons of very different concerts this year, and met tons of fans following specific bands i saw at the time. and after seeing those concerts, learning of setlist changes from show to show, and how many of them are making available for download specific show you just saw, i kept thinking over and over: "we are following the WRONG band." :distress: if you are following the band on the road, like some of us did, you get so much more with so many of the other bands. FM really are a band you should see maybe just once, or twice the most, per tour.
one thing though that i can say for our guy (talking about LB, not FM), his m&gs were by far the cheapest and the warmest and he seems much more open to his fans, than most.

We can't help that we love these people so much. I've been frustrated my whole adult life by how little these people contribute to us fans.

Miss Fantasy has a rather prominent (but not that great) piano part during the bridge and the outro.

yup. didn't someone say that was Froom? isn't he also keyboardist, in addition to producing?

He has played keyboards in a couple of bands, so it could be him.
Steve Thoma played keyboards on Dave Mason's 'Time' songs and one of Bekka's, but would they do the same thing now and leave Mitchell Froom's parts intact if Christine returned (assuming, of course, that he added keyboards to any of the other five unheard tracks)?

or Mick, John, and Lindsey can just put them out for download on itunes / amazon, one by one.
I hope that they'll do a cd copy. Some of us don't download.(ie: me)
I was wondering what her choices would have been to be performed during the Tusk portion of the set. While I'd love to hear Brown Eyes, I was lucky enough to hear that live on the Mirage Tour. I'd love to hear Honey Hi with Stevie's beautiful harmonies or Never Forget or even Think About Me. But if she chose Never Make Me Cry then that would surely be my bathroom break song.
I love Brown Eyes...also Over and Over and Think About Me. I'm not real hot on the rest of Christine's Tusk output.

Can we fire all of the mini-Mac now?
Okay, keep Brett, because he can play guitar and keys (good for acoustic guitar and string sounds), but get rid of everybody else. Just the five. Show 'em why they're legends.

Me too. Remember when they were a real BAND, actually making all the sound themselves?
It's ridiculous what has become of most live bands now, either playing along to tracks, or having umpteen backing musicians.

One or 2 backing musicians are understandable if a band is a 3 piece(to get a fuller sound) or a band that uses more musical instruments than they have people. (Though those musicians would be called touring musicians)
As for FM, they're better without backing musicians than most bands are with.
They don't need any back up singers/guitarists/drummers.

I wonder how good Lindsey would be at the one man band thing. I love when it's just him and his guitar(s), but some of his songs require more than just a guitar.

how do you mean you wonder?
he uses a backing track, or just reworks them. i want him to rework tons more of them. therefore, want more of his one man band tour.
