how do you mean you wonder?
he uses a backing track, or just reworks them. i want him to rework tons more of them. therefore, want more of his one man band tour.
I mean the one man band thing where the person has all the instruments on their person and are playing them by themselves.

I wish he'd scrap the backing tracks, too. Rework everything to be just him and his guitar and nothing else (i.e. Richard Thompson). He did it with Big Love and Go Insane, so it's not like he CAN'T do it.
I just want the same raw power they had from 1975-82 on stage. Anything less is, well, less.

i saw Richard Thompson recently, and yeah he was great. he had one guitar only that he kept re-tuning, had a lot of self-deprecating funny stories and political satire to tell, and did half of the songs by request, even forgetting how some of them go in the middle and just telling what they are about. but he's a very different personality and performer from Lindsey. i don't see LB ever doing what Richard does, or vice versa. and i enjoy them both, as they are... well there's a lot i would change with LB's set (i.e. he should play whatever i want to hear :p ), but i wouldn't want to make Richard Thompson out of him.
oh and did i say i like Electric? and i wouldn't mind hearing some songs electrically also, one man.

OK! I cannot standby idly and just read this forum, I must contribute! I am over the moon, out of this world excited about this news. Like many of us, Fleetwood Mac's body of work has meant so uch to my life, and my own little world, but Christine's songs are what mean the most to me. I have been distraught before, to know that she would never tour, or would never write music anymore. So, to hear this is simply amazing, and not even as a fan, as another person and human being, I am happy that she is finding herself, and still proves to me why life can be s adventurous and different, it can really take you anywhere....
Meow for the fan stufffff!!!
I hope she play the following songs-
Solo
- Calumny
- Friend
-You are
- Northern Star
Fleetwood Mac Material:
- Spare me a little of your love
- Over, and Over******
-Honey Hi**********
-Say you love me
-You make loving fun*******
-Believe Me****
-Why****
-Heroes are Hard to Find***
-Warm ways****
-Never make me cry***
-Everywhere
-Little Lies ( but a better live version than that of the mirage tour)
-Come a little bit closer****
-Love in store
-Hold Me
-Think about me
for the encore-or closer
of course Songbird or.....
-Never forget
-Farmer's Daughter
NOW this is for michellej and anyone else who inquires about Chris' 70's sound-
Chris' piano playing is very distinct. I'm sure all of us who study Fleetwood Mac realize this, and of course only she can tell us what she means, but I think she is talking quite literally about sound. I believe Chris is the 70's sound for the band. Without her they are an awesome rock band, but it's her sound and distinct bluesy way she plays chords that make the "seventies sound, not even Tuggle can recreate. It's in her blood and the feeling comes out through her fingertips. When I listen to bands and music of that era, what really made that "seventies sound" were the keyboards and guitar. Lindsey plays around with his sounds a bit, especially with the intro of dreams, and his solos, but the clav sound mixed in with what I said above is where that sound comes from. Here is a clip of what I am talking about (or attempting to explain)
http://youtu.be/py3w5fttedA?t=3m39s
As for the songwriting, Chris knows how to do that, and we all know her love songs. Heartbreaking in good ways.
So, if anyone has read this far into this lengthy post, thank you for bearing with me.

I really hope this is all true. I loved Christine. I loved watching Stevie dance and play tambourine to her songs. In a heartbeat.
Lindsey has said he would love her to come back. The article's mention of his discomfort with her return is out of context. That relates purely to the London shows, not to a full-time return.
And I don't know of too many fans who would prefer her not to be there.

I guess I'm only a Buckingham Nicks fan. I got used to nine or ten Stevie songs and nine or ten Lindsey songs in a set. I can't think of a single "life is so wonderful, ... happy, happy, happy" Christine song I would rather hear in place of a song from Buckingham or Nicks. Now, Stevie's and Lindsey's songs in the live set will be even more set in stone with no additional goodies thrown in. It will be Rhiannon, Landslide, Dreams, Gold Dust Woman, Gypsy, Stand Back, and I'm So Afraid, Second Hand News, Never Going Back Again, Go Your Own Way, Tusk, and Big Love, and nothing else. Instead of anything else from them, there will be five or six of the "Polyanna", "I'm so in love and life is perfect and nothing is ever wrong and I'm basking in the afterglow" songs. Ugh. I saw Christine in 1982, 1987, 1990, and 1997, and multiple times on each of those tours, so I'm good.
I'm only talking about me here, I am not trying to open a can of worms. I happen to need angst in my music. But that's just me; we all listen for our own reasons. And we all have the band members and songwriters that we prefer.

Well then what it sounds like you are saying is you don't REALLY actually NEED to go see Fleetwood Mac anymore.
Some, or many, of us did not become fans until the Dance era. I was 17 in 1997 and not allowed to go see Fleetwood Mac all by myself. I have seen "Buckingham Nicks" since, sans Christine a couple times, and Stevie solo several times. I don't care for LB's solo stuff and most of his deeper cuts from FM annoy me anyhow.
If you want special gems from either Stevie or LB, see them solo! From a budget standpoint it just makes more sense. I for one would LOVE to see Fleetwood Mac with Christine and I am prepared to spend a lot for such a tour AND album. Christine wrote most the FM hits they ever had.

Just read the article and a friend pointed it out to me at work last night.
I'm thrilled at the possibility!! I honestly can't believe that Mick is not doing cartwheels in front of the restaurant!! If he hasn't already sealed the deal with her, then he needs to get off his arse and get it done NOW!!!!
There is no better time than this. From what I read on this forum, there seems to be plenty of musical material to warrant an album (with contributions from Christine, Stevie and Lindsey), there would be a huge buzz for a tour in support of it, God knows we fans would jump at an album and tour. The only problem I see, sadly, is John's health. Hopefully, (and honestly quite selfishly for us fans), everything works out for the best for John and he recovers well and quickly and wants to get back on the road.
We will all have to just wait patiently and see what happens.

Fair enough. I'm the opposite. I've seen FM three times - 2003, 2009 and 2013. In 2003 and 2009 I felt Christine's absence achingly, moreover so did the crowd; I could hear many of them (shouting) asking where she was, or why the band wasn't doing "insert name of Christine song here".
In 2013, I saw her with them at the O2, just for Don't Stop, and it was as though I'd been seeing a tribute act for the shows in 03 and 09. I welcome this development, and hope to goodness for John's sake and for ours that he gets well soon and wants to continue to work.

I'm a fan of all three but Stevie has always been number one with me. I was actually a bit glad when Christine originally quit the group thinking like you that now we would get more deep cuts from S&L. We're lucky to get one extra song from S&L that we haven't heard before. I also realized after seeing them live in 2003 that something was hugely missing from their live show and that was the sound of Christine's piano and her amazing voice.
Well then what it sounds like you are saying is you don't REALLY actually NEED to go see Fleetwood Mac anymore.

That's not what he's saying at all. He doesn't want to sacrifice hearing deeper cuts now that a third person will be added to the song list. But one thing I think we have learned is that these people always play it safe and basicly are going to stick to the hits no matter who is in the goup.
IMO he has more of a right to keep seeing FM live than you do. He's been a fan for much longer and that has nothing to do with you being born later.

Your right Lindsey could have easily hired a drummer, bass player rhythm guitar and keyboardist when he went out on tour. But I think he did a one man show with no backup to try and push himself out of his comfort zone. As you know Lindsey loves to push the boundaries and I believe this was just another one of his ways to do that.
He said it was something he had thought about doing for awhile and I guess he finally got up the nerve to do it.
Plus the bonus is he didn't have to split any of the profits with anyone else. :]

Count me as two...
And first I would just like to say that it's pretty unfair of a certain person to say that Stevie can't be mentioned in this discussion because it's about "Christine returning to the band" and that they are tired about people talking about her (Stevie) but they don't seem to have an issue with people talking about Lindsey or his solo career in this thread and because of this persons position at "The Ledge" they are supposed to be fair and impartial...
As seekerj said "We all have the band members and songwriters that we prefer"...My preference is 1) Stevie Nicks. 2) Buckingham/Nicks. 3) Lindsey Buckingham. 4) Christine McVie.
Christine's possible return to FM affects everyone in the band and it will have more of an impact on some members than others...If Stevie, Lindsey, Mick and John have had a band meeting and decided that they want CM back in the band then why don't they just say so...I have a hard time believing that if Chris was back in the band that Mick would be able to keep his big mouth shut about it...
As far as Stevie goes (and this is where I have a problem with CM returning) Chris' all of the sudden wanting back in the band will have a big impact on Stevie's career...Stevie has spent the last few years busting her butt to be where she is right now...She's more well known and popular now than she has been in quite a while and FM is benefitting from her success as well...Sorry but I don't think it's right that Stevie has spent years building up her career so she can end on a high note and then Christine comes along and decides she wants to cash in on Stevie's & FM's recent popularity :sorry:
Personally I'm looking forward to another solo album from Stevie and hopefully something from "Buckingham/Nicks" but now that it looks like Christine is selfishly going to throw a wrench in Stevie's works we might not get either...

Fleetwood Mac without Christine, has pretty much been dead to me. SYW was an average album at best(and that's being generous, IMO).
Chris provided the balance that MADE FM what they were. And wrote most of their hits.
I'm finally actually interested in hearing something new from them!

Your point is taken. When she said that she would like to join FM on stage in London if they asked, Mick was already telling people that she WOULD join them.
So, now when she says she would rejoin permanently if they asked, I am going on the assumption that she already has.
Some people would ask publicly, but Christine doesn't really have that type of personality. With her, I feel it's already done and that the guys knew she was going to say it.

I really like 'Say You Will.' I don't listen to it as often as I do the Mac albums with Christine, but I still think it's a great album. At the time it was released, I was excited to hear what Stevie and Lindsey could/would do together within the confines of Fleetwood Mac but with just the two of them as the leads. But once that curiosity was satisfied, I started missing Christine's contributions too much and no longer had the same enthusiasm for any potential new Mac music if she wasn't involved.
This news, however, has me all jazzed up. And it looks like we diehards aren't the only ones excited about having Christine back.

Yes, it will help her career.
Stevie has spent the last few years busting her butt to be where she is right now...
Promoting a documentary on the recording of an album that bombed (188,000 in the US; 500,000 worldwide) while on tour with Fleetwood Mac? Otherwise, touring with Rod Stewart?
I'm not saying it's etched in stone, but I betcha a new album with Fleetwood Mac (with our without Christine) could do better than that.

Huh? You're about thirty years off. Stevie has always been well known and, for the most part, popular. Her image took a beating between 1987-1997, and it took a Fleetwood Mac reunion to restore that image.

In all fairness, that's not what was said. It's about staying on topic, not completely cutting out other band members in the thread. When the focus becomes about Stevie, a thread gets derailed, and for members (or non members) coming in to read about Christine, that's frustrating to find post after post that's not about the topic at hand. Feel free to mention Stevie all you want... but the focus of the thread is about Christine's return. That being said...

I don't think Christine's return to Fleetwood Mac will affect Stevie's recent success whatsoever. I think that ball lies in Stevie's court anyway... if Stevie wants Chris back, then why is it (or does it) have to be a bad thing? You spoke of Stevie's recent success, and of her building her career back up... Chris's return cannot affect Stevie's career negatively. There are people who love Fleetwood Mac but don't like Stevie solo... Also, what success are you talking about? Album sales? Because In Your Dreams didn't exactly set the world on fire.
Fleetwood Mac is a separate entity, and as a whole (the five of them), they have much more power, buzz, and charisma. Look at Say You Will... if you base it purely on sales, it came nowhere near what The Dance did. I think that's for obvious reasons - take Chris out of the equation and the core of the band becomes skewed. I have always felt that since her absence they've been trying to become Fleetwood Mac again, and haven't quite reached the goal line.
Also, this doesn't feel like Chris cashing in either. She said in the article that she realized after 15 years of living alone that it wasn't what she wanted at all... she misses her bandmates. I don't think money even enters into it at this point, and when it does, I'd imagine it's the least of all her reasons.

I have no reason to believe that Stevie is at all ready to cash in her chips and retire... but, even if she were to do so within the next few years, I think she would feel that one last album and tour with Christine in Fleetwood Mac would be ending her career on a high note. Stevie has mad-love for Fleetwood Mac, and I think having "her band" completely back together would give her the utmost joy. (Most especially after the personal losses she's had the past few years.)
Promoting a documentary on the recording of an album that bombed (188,000 in the US; 500,000 worldwide) while on tour with Fleetwood Mac?
One minor nitpick... an album by a 65-year-old pop/rock artist, that does those numbers, isn't considered a "bomb" these days. Those sales might not live up to the glory days, but they're nothing to write off. Even Paul freakin' McCartney's latest album has "only" sold something like 75,000 copies so far in the US. In the past, that album would have sold 500,000 copies right out of the gate.
(Additionally, I thought we've all agreed in the past that "success" is measured by more than just how many copies an album sells. Otherwise, all of those indie bands we all love, are "failures.")

I think SYW was too long. I'd make it longer than a regular album, but less than 18 tracks. Maybe 14.
I liked it just fine. I like Lindsey and Stevie together.
If I had to choose, of the 3, it's "easier" for me to lose Christine, if one can call the pang I've had since The Dance tour ended "easy" in any sense of the word.
I've never wanted to choose and I like the whole band better than I like any of them as individuals and better than I like Stevie and Lindsey as a duo and I'd give all of their solo careers up to have Fleetwood Mac for the rest of their lives.
But I like the solo stuff too. Just if I have to prioritize that is how I'd do it.

I agree, 'Say You Will' is too long. In 2003, I wanted as much Mac music as possible -- but, in hindsight, the music would have been better served on a shorter album. (I still think two 12-track albums, released within 6 - 8 months of each other, would have been ideal.)
One of my hopes for a potential new Mac album, is something that's 14 or 15 tracks long.

For me, it would have to be Stevie. Christine defines the Fleetwood Mac sound both in terms of vocals and keyboards. Guitarists and singers come and go, but Christine is irreplaceable. Lindsey and Stevie make the Fleetwood Mac sound so much better, but they don't really define it to me.
I'd give all of their solo careers up to have Fleetwood Mac for the rest of their lives.

I might as well chime in and say that, as much as I've always loved Lindsey's music (though, admittedly, been loving his newer stuff less & less), he'd be the one I'd be most ok with losing from Fleetwood Mac. Perhaps that has something to do with the fact that he left not long after I became a fan (late '85)... so I quickly became just as fond of Billy & Rick.

I am a fairly jaded, suspicious, and sarcastic person... but I just don't think money is the prime motivator here. Christine has always seemed to live pretty simply for a rock star- from what we know she has 1 home... the one where she lives in the English countryside. From a quick look at real estate listings of her village, prices for that area are fairly moderate. She probably cashed in when she sold her California house in '98, too. She never really had the epic drug addiction that Stevie or Mick did, either. I don't think she collects cars or failing business ventures like Mick. So I'm guessing she has a very comfortable nest egg. I truly believe her when she says she's just bored living out in the countryside... and misses music.
Regarding me hating on Stevie... she's my favorite member, always has been. When Fleetwood Mac announced they were recording Say You Will without Christine, I was actually quite thrilled to see what Buckingham Nicks backed by Fleetwood Mac would sound like. Initially, it was incredibly exciting for me. But as time passed, I realized how vital Chris was to the sound of Fleetwood Mac. She balanced everything out, gave it that special sheen. There was just atmosphere lost with the departure of Christine- the magic was not present. I started to fall in love with her music shortly thereafter. I rate songs like Oh Daddy, Why, Brown Eyes, Over & Over, and others as my very favorite Mac tunes these days. Then In The Meantime came out, and the spell was complete- I realized how amazing Christine was, and how little I cared about Fleewood Mac without her. And I'm primarily a Fleetwood Mac fan. I love the solo albums of it's various members... I own them all. But they still will never hold a candle to my 5 fireflies. That's why I want to hear more about Christine in this thread. Not because I hate Stevie... quite the opposite. But because I LOVE Fleetwood Mac. I didn't ask for the Stevie conversation to be shut down from a Moderator perspective... I just want to hear more about Chris from a fan perspective. There's so much to speculate! Let the games begin!

Oh, on that I completely agree. I'm just saying that comparing a studio album of (mostly) new material to a live Greatest Hits album that was a television/radio event is a little unfair. I absolutely think it would have been more successful, but how much more is all I question.

Oh definitely. I'll admit I don't think SYW would've rivalled The Dance, at least not the CD sales. The tour would have just because they went all over the world. There was (as I recall) some slight negative blurbs with regards to the new album being "sans McVie", and I think that hurt the album, in addition to it being too long, and all the other little problems with it... That said, I still like SYW.

Can we PLEASE let this one thread, just this ONE thread, not be about Stevie Nicks? This is about Christine McVie returning to Fleetwood Mac...Can we keep it to that? Christine's return deserves better respect than this thread is giving her.
We should be talking about where Chris goes from here. Where would the band record a new album? LA? England Hawaii? Does this mean Chris might return to the US in some capacity? Would the band record an album or tour with her first? Was there a watershed event that could have happened in Chris life to precipitate her wanting to rejoin the band? What do we think Chris would have to say about an outside producer for a new album? There are so, so many questions I have... and none of them have anything to do with Stevie freaking Nicks. :sorry:

hey - understandable, i'd prefer a new Lindsey solo first too! i am thinking though that Chrsitine having already recorded some songs will push the Mac album in the works towards completion... but how long will it take to actually get it out with all the band politics, managers and lawyers... who knows? so Lindsey might as well record some solo songs and put another album out in the meantime, since he seems to be on the roll these past few years.
one nitpick though with your last post - if you are choosing to refer to critically acclaimed success of solo albums vs sales, you can't say LB's solo albums are unnoticed by the critics or not critically acclaimed, because they mostly are. of course, if you are talking about sales, that's a completely different story.

Speak for yourself. There hasn't been a studio album with the Rumours 5 since 1987. Since then Stevie has released 4 solo albums, Lindsey has released 4 solo albums, and Christine has released 1. All 3 Mac singer/songwriters have recorded solo albums in the 21st Century. It's time for a 21st Century Mac album with all 5 present.
Oh, and a Mac album with all 5 present would simply keep the spotlight on all Mac members, and would only bolster any future solo projects.

and, LB has made abundantly clear that he does not want to produce FM's next album, so not sure why is that being repeatedly brought up as an issue.
Until Lindsey doesn't produce the next album, I won't believe that he is not going to or doesn't want to and I want him at the controls of his and Christine's stuff. Stevie can do what she wants, because no one needs to hear the complaints.

Regarding me hating on Stevie... she's my favorite member, always has been.
I understand...I just had a problem with Stevie being singled out because just as many "Off topic" posts were about Lindsey...

That's exactly what was said...I understand you wanting to keep things "on topic" but how are numerous posts referring to Lindsey's solo work considered "on topic" while posts about "Stevie Freaking Nicks are "off topic"
Nowhere in that post did louie propose that you nix the Nicks talk "or else"... he suggested that it was time to get the train back on the tracks. Discuss Lindsey and Stevie all you want, that's encouraged, as along as it's relevant to the original thread topic itself. With a thread as special as this one, I think that's a fair thing to ask. To answer your question though, we mods tend to step in when a thread has already started to go a bit too much off topic. This isn't Minority Report in here - we can't anticipate what might be said - so we have to wait until it veers, then we make an effort to pull it back into the right lane. If you want to be argumentative furthermore about what a mod has asked/suggested, I would recommend not commenting at all or PM-ing that mod.

I feel the exact same way as you do except about the length of the SYW album. 18 songs isn't too much when I love a band. There are never too many songs for me. There could have been 30 songs and I would have been thrilled because you never know how long in between albums it's going to be. I'll gladly accept as many songs on a record as they can fit. And like you I'd gladly go without another solo album in favor of a FM album with all 5 for the rest of our lives.

I'll never understand why she has allowed her songs to go out when she didn't like the way they were produced. She has a history of complaints about badly produced songs, including in her solo career.

Personally I'm looking forward to another solo album from Stevie and hopefully something from "Buckingham/Nicks" but now that it looks like Christine is selfishly going to throw a wrench in Stevie's works we might not get either...
Oh, please. Christine is not throwing a wrench in Stevie's solo work. This is the woman who released just two albums in a ten-year span. She's the woman who released her song about Hurricane Katrina six years after it happened. Stevie is responsible for Stevie's lack of output.

We used to go to this deli in Michigan and get corned beef and my mother said she didn't like it because: "they give you too much meat." Of course, we all thoroughly laughed at her for that statement. If it's too much meat for one sandwich, just take some out and make yourself a second sandwich later!
I suppose I only say there should have been less than 18 songs because some of them stunk.

I agree with your mother. Too much meat on a sandwich is annoying. I'd rather taste the fresh bread.
Sure some of the songs stunk but that is another reason why 18 weren't too many. That way we could gather the ones we liked and ignore the rest and we still have a cool album to listen to. I haven't listened to that CD in over a year so I'm going to go from memory only and say the only song I really didn't like on it was Silver Hurl.I know there were a few more on my skip it list but that one topped them all as my throwaway track.

What I'm saying is it wont help her solo career...The time she spends with FM is time she could be working on a solo album which is what we want and the clock is ticking...
We? You mean YOU. I don't want or need another Stevie Nicks solo album at this point.
I could care less about sales..."IYD"
No, you can't talk about Stevie's popularity and talk about how the others are riding her coattails when her album tanked. As a solo artist, she plays mid-size venues or accompanies other artists. Fleetwood Mac practically sells out arenas. That's not ALL Stevie. If it were ALL Stevie, then Stevie would be able to do that on her own, and she cannot.
Yep a new FM record is the ONLY chance LB,CM,MF & JM have of being noticed In terms of new material...
Really? I seem to recall Mick being nominated for a Grammy a few years back for basically a live album of Peter Green songs with Rick Vito.
Apparently somebody noticed.
Again not talking about sales...IYD is one of the best things Stevie has ever done...Maybe I shouldn't use the word sucess
But low sales do not equate to success.
Sorry it just seems like she want's in while the getting is good...
Even if that were the case (it's not), she would have every right considering she helped the band move on from Peter Green and was a loyal team player during all of the hard times.
Personally I think Stevie would rather do something that would get her the respect as a solo artist that she hasn't received yet like a solo Grammy or be voted into the RRHOF as a solo artist...
The best thing that could happen to Stevie's solo career is for Christine McVie to come back. Stevie wasn't opening for Rod Stewart when Christine McVie was a member of Fleetwood Mac.
Exactly! Like I keep saying "I don't care about sales"
Yet you keep implying that everybody's riding Stevie's coattails because she is the most popular member of the band. I maintain that's rubbish. Sure, she's the most popular, I won't dispute that. But Stevie the solo artist opens for Rod Stewart and has weak album sales, whereas Stevie the member of Fleetwood Mac sells out arenas.
But rather successful from an artistic or "critically acclaimed" point of view...
If she's on an artistic high right now, wouldn't she want more people to notice? The easiest way for that to happen is with Fleetwood Mac. Christine possibly coming back has already generated a lot of buzz. A new album with Christine will generate a TON of publicity, especially if it's a great record. After that, people would be interested in another Stevie Nicks album.

Yes, it will help her career.
Yeah, that's it.

Regarding the stinky songs, I think that they're easier to digest when they're in the context of something bigger. While I don't agree with the oft-repeated grouse that SYW was just two songs slapped together, I do think that it kind of lacked a theme that bound everything together. So, that's one reason that I think fewer songs might have made the whole thing tighter sounding.
I contrast that to Tusk. Even though it was a double album containing songs I didn't like, I do feel that the songs went together somehow. I think Honey Hi was related to Tusk (the song), for example.
The Tusk ballads, even if I didn't like many of them, I think they were less weak hanging together than they would have been standing out like a sore thumb on another album.
Song selection, sequencing, whatever it was that the band couldn't do to make the SYW songs more cohesive, I think maybe it would have been easier for them to do if there were fewer songs.
And to me, it's not a problem of Stevie and Lindsey not intertwining, because if you DO break their songs down into two solo albums, I think the 9 songs on each of those solo albums go together EVEN LESS than they do as a blended family of 18 on SYW.
With Christine back we're going to have more harmony than SYW had.
I wonder if we will have a music VIDEO, like in the good old days, not just a performance video, but a conceptual video like in the eighties. I would love that. Also, if we had a retrospective video showing clips of the 5 in the seventies and eighties like Paper Doll did, I'd eat that up as well.

For me, the issue was there were a core group of songs that sound like Fleetwood Mac, but then there are other songs (i.e. "Illume," "Murrow" or "Red Rover") that would have been great on solo albums, but don't (IMO) work as Fleetwood Mac pieces. MY iPod version of SYW is:
What's The World Coming To

Bleed To Love Her

As for songs that don't sound like Fleetwood Mac, Come is one I would definitely make solo, but Illume is a nice spin on their usual sound and I would keep it and I think Everybody Finds Out is a welcome difference as well.
When Chris diverged, it's not that she didn't sound like FM, so much as she didn't sound as much like herself. With Behind the Mask and Heart of Stone, Lindsey wasn't there and I would love for her to do something a little darker like those two of hers, with him included in it. That would be fun.

i was just thinking of that... Rodeo is such a beautiful song and may have gotten exposure it deserves if it was on FM album. but then again, it's not like general audiences know SYW songs anyway, except BTLH which was on the dance, and Peackeeper and maybe SYW. so i don't know that it would have really gotten that much more exposure. plus Rodeo is gorgeous the way it's recorded, i would hate SN's vocal being added on it. so after going through this exercise, i'm happy LB pulled Rodeo from SYW and it ended up on UTS.

SteveMacD,
Sold her publishing in '98(?). So I'm guessing
you're in agreement with me. It is about the

Are there other reasons for her return? Sure!
But they all know time is not on their side. So

Just a few request on my part (and others):
1. A Good album by the 5.

4. A Blu ray/DVD Concert Documentary of the tour.

There is a lot to like about SAY YOU WILL, and that is precisely the problem. Because of the sheer volume of content, the intense tone of the songs, coupled with the moody, steely production techniques, the songs kind of get lost and are harder to appreciate. Lindsey left no room to breathe.
After much thought and editing to make the songs more approachable, this was my idea: (despite knowing this is useless speculation -- just mindful chatter to delay thinking about more important things...things I can control!)
Side one
1. Say You Will (single mix)
2. Miranda
3. Thrown Down
4. Peacekeeper
5. Running through the Garden
6. Come
Side two
1. Destiny Rules
2. What’s the World Coming To
3. Smile at You
4. Murrow Turning Over in his Grave
5. Everybody Finds Out
6. Steal Your Heart Away
The six songs retracted from the album, when, combined with the two studio outtakes and two live cuts featured on the bonus disc from the deluxe version, you have pretty much another album. This could have been a nice after-the-tour release to fill in the wide gap of time to follow. (Wish I could think of a creative title for the companion album, but I'm at a loss at the moment. But then again, this is all just a dream scenario).
1. Peacekeeper (live)
2. Illume
3. Bleed to Love Her
4. Silver Girl
5. Love Minus Zero/No Limits
6. Not Make Believe
7. Red Rover
8. Goodbye Baby
9. Say Goodbye
10. Say You Will (live)

somewhere in this thread we were discussing possible ticket prices with Christine, and how much more space they have or don't have to go up.
i mentioned Eagles ticket prices that i saw... i just checked since they are playing in my area in March: regular price range is $67-212. that's higher than they were for the Mac in the same venue (highest regular tickets for the Mac in this venue were $149 - vs $212 for Eagles).
but then look at this (and i'm sure they are not counting these "fan tickets" in average ticket prices, b/c pollstar was clear they were not counting platinums) - 11-20th row of the floor - $450!!
since they don't show 1-10th row of the floor as available, hard to tell how much those prices were, but no doubt higher than $450. so even though they advertise prices on the floor as $212, you can't get first 20 rows on the floor for that (and i got 19th row floor for the Mac for the regular price).

That's just ridiculous. I'm all for paying more for a premium seat, but come on.
I too am worried about the prices going up if Christine returns. I mean, I'd love to see her and all, but...
For me, given their age and therefore time being a factor of releasing new material, I'd rather them just stick to their solo careers at this point. They (at least S & L) seem happier that way anyway.

^Even if it is just another oldies tour, I'll actually go this time around (I skipped out on the Unleashed & 2013 tours). I had tickets for the Raleigh, NC The Dance concert back in '97... but the band ended up cancelling that show. Had I been older than 15 at the time, I would have just bought tickets for a show that was further away. But not being able to drive prevented that. So this time around, I will not be missing my 5 Fireflies, even if they do stick it to us in regards to ticket prices. :)

Even though they won't really change the setlist (which so many people say they want) if Christine returns, they'll revert back to a setlist we haven't heard in more than 15 years. I mean, we're going to have to have 6-8 new songs in the set, perforce, just because Christine is there.
So, it doesn't matter if people saw Unleashed or SYW or Live 2013, a tour with Christine will be different, no matter what. I mean, it might be the same as the Dance, but come on. That's like my Grandma telling me she doesn't want to watch I Love Lucy shows because she saw them when they first aired. FIFTY YEARS ago. You're opposed to repeats 50 years later???

Even when Lindsey said that Warner Bros. wanted a new record from them, I thought that was quite odd. I can't imagine WB wanting a new FM album unless Christine was on board and then they could work it like they did the Dance reunion. But why on earth anyone at Warner Bros. would be pushing for just the four of them to make an album was completely beyond my comprehension.
I suspect that there have been Christine-return strategy sessions going on all summer really, used as leverage in helping the group land some big contract.

It makes sense. And everything that the media is spewing about other members not wanting her return have been cut and paste jobs, or speculation.
I watched a piece yesterday where they made Mick look like they didn't want her back. So weird.
It's a crime that they've only released four studio albums in the past 30 years.
it's unbelievable really how huge of a name and career they have on such dismal output since 1975.
This continues to blow my mind every time I think about it. Compared to the sheer volume of output from their peers, it's amazing this band held on to any fans over the years!
Until Lindsey doesn't produce the next album, I won't believe that he is not going to or doesn't want to and I want him at the controls of his and Christine's stuff. Stevie can do what she wants, because no one needs to hear the complaints.
Michele
Agreed. While having Stevie use a different producer for her tunes might hurt the cohesion of the sound, Lindsey and Christine have always been a powerful combination.
In The Meantime was only further proof that Chris' songs are greatly benefitted by a little of Lindsey's experimental edge...

I'm very curious about what changed. It's like she had a fifteen year nervous breakdown and suddenly snapped out of it. Was it Ken's book; was it not being able to say no to Mick; did her dogs go to doggie heaven and she got too lonely in the mansion; new therapist; realizing she's in her 70s, in good health, and can still do it? All of the above?

I honesly think she was just tired at the time in 1998. Who wouldn't need a break! But feeling fed-up could be confused with throwing in the towel, and calling it retirement.
If she didn't hold out this whole time, and call this long break from music a retirement, Fleetwood Mac would have never given her the break she needed/deserved. These 15 years gave her a solitude that everybody in show business should be able to have.
I think you're right about the 70's age thing. It's remarkable and lucky she feels 20 in her 70's. and It's possible that she is now realizing that music doesn't have to be wrk, it's therapeutic, and that's what she possible needs now.
Maybe she hadn't realized the possibility that she could have the best of both worlds: A country life in Kent and a fun L.A. based music band travelling the world. Also, who doesn't want a little adventure, regardless of age.
In the words of Bilbo Baggins...'I'm going on an adventure!"
(This is Chris-and the signed document at the beginning is a letter of request from Fleetwood Mac to her)

Yes, she said that. She also did an interview saying all FM guitarists go crazy. But then I think she kind of half-heartedly said Lindsey was an exception. She also said Tusk was a weird album. I think these little things during Meantime's promotion were kind of directed at him.

I was looking at an old comment Stevie made about The Dance and it makes me wonder if they could go back to Japan and those other markets again, like they did in their hey day. Is there still that demand?
"We could have taken that tour around the world," she says with a sigh. "We could have made a hundred gazillion dollars, taken it to Australia and Japan and the Pacific Rim and South America. But Christine [McVie] didn't want to. She signed on for 30 dates, and that was it."

In other words, Christine's "I'm out, guys" finally took. I agree I wish we hadn't lost 15 years, but it's not like there was a lot going on band wise. One, ONE new album, an EP, and a few tours. Not really enough to develop a distinct identity. More like a band half-assing it since their songbird signed off.

I hope they get into the studio sooner than later and start recording an album.
Hopefully, with Christine tentatively back in the picture, Stevie will be more inspired about the prospects of collaborating and recording with the band.
And, maybe, if Christine didn't have to commit to a daunting 100-plus tour date schedule, she'd be more amenable to the idea of touring at all.
How can anyone expect Christine to snap back and adapt into to the rigors of traveling and performing so quickly? She's been out of the game for a very long time and she's no spring chicken. None of them are, but they are more conditioned than she is, because they never left the game. It's like taking a long retired athlete and putting her back in the game and expecting her perform on the same level, with the same strength she had almost twenty years later.
It's amazing that she's finally realized she's not the country girl she thought she was. It's truly stunning that she wants to rejoin...THE RISING OF CHRIS!I hope her presence inspires Lindsey and Stevie to make music on par with their most finest work. They seem to be getting along better than we've seen them in years.

I agree PenguinHead, I hope the big concert promoters and managers take it easy and not see this whole situation as a strictly money thing. It's more than that to Chris, and always has been. She's mentioned money is great, but I believe what attracted her to the band once more is the common love of the music that is happneing right now between all of them, and that's especially what she needs right now in her life. She has a very therapuetic mindset currently. This "Rumours Anniversary" tour really brought something back to Stevie and I believe Lindsey, and John and mick as well. Reminding them about the music. Chris wants to be a part of that.

It was a business decision. Yes, she was with them on that tour, but was not under contract to perform. There was nothing stopping her from going home, and it wouldn't have been fair to promoters or the band for fans to have an expectation that Christine would be performing just to have her possibly change her mind. She understood that.
If Christine had been in the same frame of mind back in January, she very well could have done the whole tour. It's a process. Christine has proven she can fly, play on stage, and now be on tour. I think the Vegas show will be the quartet's swansong, and only because Christine's not under contract to perform. I expect her to be back in the band in 2014.

So, I wonder what she thought of Say You Love Me for Unleashed.
To be honest, I liked it. Sure it wasn't the same as it was with Christine, but I was touched, especially when they did the choruses. The chorus went better than the verses.

It's been so long.. I'll re-watch SYLM. I just recently watched Don't Stop on 9/24/13. I had to stop it because of the contrast to 9/25/13.

10 Reasons Why Fleetwood Mac Needs Christine McVie
Few bands in the history of rock & roll have exemplified the division-of-labor work ethic as effectively as classic-era Fleetwood Mac (1975-1988): If Stevie Nicks was the star and Lindsey Buckingham the musical genius, Christine McVie, possibly the lead singer people think of least when they think of FM, was the heart and soul. And as Billy Joel (who, like McVie, needs to get his ass back where it belongs: in a recording studio making new pop music again) once sang, it's all about soul.
So the one bit of good news on a terrible weekend of devastating news was the old news (yes, I'm still behind) reported on November 24 by Rolling Stone.com from a Guardian interview that McVie, now 70, would rejoin Fleetwood Mac if they asked her to. Since I'm not getting my reunions of The Smiths or ABBA (which was sort of like a Swedish FM, whose various members -- spouses-turned-exes John and Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks +/- both Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood -- also loved and lost each other while making music together), Fleetwood Mac featuring Christine McVie again might actually be the next best thing.
I lost interest in Fleetwood Mac after the artist formerly known as Christine Perfect (what a fitting maiden name!) left the band in 1998 to retreat to country life in the middle of nowhere, England, and I haven't listened to one note of new music that the band has recorded together since then. I remember FM's Lindsay Buckingham-free years after 1987's Tango in the Night (during which FM released two studio albums: 1990's Behind the Mask and 1995's Time, the latter of which Nicks also sat out), and they weren't pretty.
I never got into Fleetwood Mac's original bluesy incarnation, in which McVie costarred from 1970 to 1975. The band needed Buckingham Nicks (that was actually the name of Stevie and Lindsey's duo project before they joined FM for 1975's eponymous U.S. breakthrough) as much as it needed McVie. Buckingham provided the quirk that pushed boundaries and the band past the level of classic soft rock into the realm of daring art pop; Nicks' ethereal witchy-woman persona gave FM sex appeal; and Christine McVie's earthy sensuality and her melodies of love were its humanity. Each was an equally essential ingredient of the Mac attack.
Nicks has had the most success as a solo artist, and she remains the band's biggest name. (Though aside from The Beatles, Genesis, New Edition and FM, I can't think of another group with three or more offshoots that enjoyed Top 10s on Billboard's Hot 100. Eagles would qualify had Joe Walsh's "Life's Been Good" gone just two notches higher in 1978.) But McVie actually wrote and sang lead on more Top 40 FM hits than both of her singing-songwriting bandmates combined: nine, compared to five for Nicks and three for Buckingham, making her Fleetwood Mac's commercial MVP -- and not just because she knew how to churn out a radio smash. Her creative touch was just as formidable. Here are 10 examples of just how much so: My Top 10 Fleetwood Mac moments featuring Christine McVie on lead vocals and as primary songwriter.
10. "Songbird" (from Rumours, 1977) The late Eva Cassidy helped make it a modern classic on her posthumous 1998 album Songbird, but McVie wrote it and sang it first. (It's perhaps FM's best known non-single after Nicks' "Landslide.")
9. "Don't Stop" (from Rumours, 1977) Also known as the soundtrack to Bill Clinton's 1992 U.S. Presidential campaign. (The video below is from McVie's September 2013 onstage reunion with her musical exes in London.)
8. "Never Forget" (from Tusk, 1979) With a slightly countrified swing, McVie closed my favorite FM album even more masterfully than she opened it (with "Over & Over").
7. "Hold Me" (from Mirage, 1982) The first time I was consciously aware that I was listening to and loving an FM hit.
6. "You Make Loving Fun" (from Rumours, 1977) Everybody wants a lover like that.
5. "Honey Hi" (from Tusk, 1979) Yet another stunning example of McVie's effortless seduction technique.
4. "Everywhere" (from Tango in the Night, 1987) McVie's "Little Lies" was the biggest hit from the album (No. 4), but I preferred her on the 1988 follow-up single (No. 14), which boasts one of the best intro/outro combos of the decade.
3. "Say You Love Me" (from Fleetwood Mac, 1975) The first Fleetwood Mac song I ever heard, though at the time I was too young to know -- or care -- who was singing it. At 6 years old, I just couldn't get enough of that "falling falling falling" at the end.
2. "Brown Eyes" (from Tusk, 1979) So haunting, so gorgeous.
1. "Think About Me" (from Tusk, 1979) Christine rocks! One of my favorite Fleetwood Mac singles, perhaps second only to "Tusk." If I listen to it once, I'm going to listen to it five more times.

^So, if our Tusk surprise song continues, I honestly think Honey Hi has a better chance of getting into the setlist than Think About Me. But if they did Think About Me it would I would be delirious.

The press is keeping Chris on the forefront of the minds of FM fans (she is such a positive for the band). Lindsey is now boxed in and everyone knows it's up to him to make a statement. Going public the way Chris did, is putting pressure on Lindsey. First internal resistance from Lindsey, now Chris is putting external pressure on him through the press.

Yes ''WE ALL'' knew about rehearsals ...I was told ,by Mick that she was not there. I DO believe that Lindsey did NOT want 1st show reviews to take spotlight away from them (a.k.a him) I do believe she had every intention of performing in Dublin. and seeing as she was LITERALLY standing right at the steps it's pretty pathetic that she didn't get to go up.

This is the dynamic of the band (EMOTIONS), I believe this is a complete fabrication to create the 2014 album. Making Chris sitting on the first row is a plan to continue the emotions and dynamics of Fleetwood Mac. No band in history has put the string of years together with this love and hate between each other. Unlike their early years, it's all for the love of their act on stage played out in their music. Now that they are older its planed and it's choreographed.....just look at their fan base pissing and moaning about how Chris is being treated by Lindsey.

But she wasn't under contract. Even she understands it was business and nothing personal. I doubt that she would have even agreed to a contract, not knowing how she'd feel about being on the road.

If Mick told you that she wasn't there, how did his body language let you know that Lindsey was keeping her off the stage. If anything his body language should've been telling you that he was lying about her not being there.
Since Dublin was the first stop on the second leg, it's not even clear that she was ready to perform in Dublin, since that was the first opportunity that they got to rehearse. At any rate, since Steve he already said they were rehearsing in Dublin your picture does not add or subtract any information from what we already have. We knew she was in Dublin for 2 months now.
Of course you can cobble together fragments of information that's been in the press to jump to any conclusions that you like. Michele

Yes of course there hasn't been anything in the press about him stopping her from touring or suggesting that she wanted to tour other than London. Traveling with the band is different than performing, especially given John's illness, maybe she just wanted to be near.

i'm enjoying reading these threads related to Christine. interesting dynamic that seems to be emerging - for whatever reason some SN fans seem to be the ones that are the most pi**ed about LB's supposed *intervention* - whereas people who are primarily CM fans defend him.
and yes, we knew since before the shows that Christine was with the band in Dublin, and Madness heard her rehearsing Don't Stop with them. we were all hoping she'll join the band in Dublin but for whatever reason she didn't. the reason being either that she didn't feel ready to do it - or of course there's that obviously factual one of Lindsey being an immature, petulant diva.

Sounds like you're judging Lindsey for what you feel he is doing, you're judging us for making conversation with you, and you're judging our owner for her post count. I see lots of judging coming from you.
Anyway-
Regarding your summation of Christine's involvement (or lack thereof) during this tour, I'm interpreting the situation much differently. Christine has been completely out of the public eye for a decade and a half. Her jamming with Mick in Maui, watching Fleetwood Mac from the audience in Dublin, following the band around Europe, going to Stevie's documentary screening with Mick & Stevie, and performing Don't Stop twice in London... all of this is Christine dipping her toes back gradually into public life. She has been a hermit for 15 years now. I wouldn't expect her to just pick up where she left off after her long self-imposed exile. She's starting small, in her own backyard, and going from there.
Even if that's not the case, all of these tour dates and tour contracts were finalized more than a year ago. I sense Christine's wanting to rejoin the band is much newer than that. Christine rejoining as a full member at the end of Fleetwood Mac's world tour would have thrown a major wrench into all of this from a contractual and managerial standpoint. Does Chris even have a manager anymore? Could these contracts for performances be rewritten at this late of a date? I kinda doubt both. When it comes to the egos & immaturity of Stevie and Lindsey, I don't put much past either of them... but this time, I genuinely believe their egos have nothing to do with this gradual return of Chris. I think this is her own way of easing back into public life- at her own pace.

There has been so much extra information added to this story it's unreal. I saw a video where they used a Mick quote that had nothing to do with the story they were telling. He was talking about Christine rejoining for one song. And they used those quotes for the perm. return of Christine. They were trying to make it look like Mick had a problem with her return.

What we need is for one of them to say something current, now, in the wake of Christine's Guardian statements. I wonder if it will happen around the Vegas shows or if we will have to wait another couple of months.
I'm almost scared for them to talk, because what they say might put a damper on our enthusiasm about her return practically being a done deal. I don't want to hear them say it's not.

I think it would be around Vegas at the earliest. I doubt it would be before the show since she's not contractually part of the line-up scheduled to play. However, it would be cool if she made a surprise cameo for "World Turning" and "Don't Stop" after which they make the announcement. The cherry on the cake would be if they ended the show with "Songbird."

I wouldn't expect it, but I wouldn't be shocked, either. What better way to announce Christine's return?
And I don't want him to say, "nothing's been decided yet." I mean, I know if he says that that won't mean it's not in the works. But it would still be kind of depressing for him to say that
If they can't avoid interviews, I'd rather they say "well, stranger things have happened" if asked about Christine coming back.
They've never done anything that would give their fans that much pleasure, if they could possibly help it.
Now worse with Azoff's crew running the show.

They might think Glastonbury is a better way to announce it. I don't agree with that, mind you. I would rather have her debut before a crowd that is just there for FM, not FM and a bunch of other acts.
But from a marketing point of view, the band and management might want her to burst back before a large crowd like that. It wouldn't just make the print news. It would make for a lot of VIDEO publicity as well. I mean, we drank up all of the youtube videos of her London performance, but Glastonbury footage would be on all the entertainment programs. Traditional tv, in addition to youtube.

I can't imagine any scenario where they'd say no to Christine.
Stranger things have happened. But I would be heart broken.

In my dreams he'd say, "Yes. All the rumours are true and she's back in the fold. We can't wait to record with her again."
But we know that's not going to happen. They've never done anything that would give their fans that much pleasure, if they could possibly help it.
Best post of the day. You made me laugh so hard.

If something happened, like Lindsey kept her out, and we knew this for fact, I would be DONE with the current lineup, for good.
And me too. Now that we believe she's coming back, if it doesn't happen, I too, will be heartbroken.

Same here. But I suppose I have been "done" for quite some time... I haven't attended Fleetwood Mac's past 2 tours because I just haven't cared. There's no new music, and it's only 4/5 of the Fireflies. I streamed the EP once- it was embarassingly bad, and I didn't buy it.
Christine's return would revert me back to starry eyed fanboy status, though. I'd go see the band without any new music. I'd have to assume her presence would restore balance to the band, and I'd enjoy a new album, too. But yeah, if Christine doesn't return, I'll simply continue being disinterested in the current incarnation of Fleetwood Mac.
In any event, I have high hopes Christine's return will happen in some form. Be it for a tour, for an album, or both. I have to think on some level the death of the Bobs, Judy Wong, Herbert Worthington, and John's cancer diagnosis have prompted Christine to spend time with her old camarades while there's still time. After all, Chris is twice divorced with no children... the band (and it's peripheral people) must be a form of family for her.

I think they want a big announcement, though. So, I doubt Stevie could confirm officially. I would think they'd play it close to the vest.
