I think they want a big announcement, though. So, I doubt Stevie could confirm officially. I would think they'd play it close to the vest.

Michele

^^^ That's a good point. They may be waiting for a press conf.

I agree. I am guessing the band's managers are busy behind the scenes orchestrating this whole thing. First, they need to get any currently booked performances/appearances from the present incarnation of Fleetwood Mac out of the way. So that puts any sort of official announcement from the band into mid January at the very earliest (remember, they have a January 8 corporate gig). If the band decides to rebook it's Australia/New Zealand dates, this could get pushed back even further, though.

I'm not so sure Fleetwood Mac could go straight back into the markets they've just toured in, and get good ticket sales, though. Even with Christine's return, it's probably just too soon. So I'm guessing touring with Christine in 2014 is not a likely scenario. Hopefully Fleetwood Mac will spend 2014 working on an album... but I have my doubts. We'll see.

Well this news, if it comes to pass, is thrilling I must say! Though I have not posted here regularly for over 10 years…wow, maybe 13 years, I sure remember all the excitement before the Dance was released with the prospects of them getting all back together.

Back when the Ledge was just one board and we all sat listening to the live broadcast of what became the Dance DVD :)

That being said, I actually completely understand Mr. Buckingham’s position. I don’t think it was meant as a slight to Ms. McVie but just want they said it was, they didn't want it over shadowing all the work they have done. Simple as that.

But it is amazing how much vitriol can be sprayed for Mr. Buckingham stance. I truly believe he thinks he is doing what is best for the band as a whole
As a fan of all members of this band I really look forward to this if it happens, and if not I will continue to enjoy them in their own separate projects and anything they do in the future together.

It is rather nice to still see some familiar users posting on this board and I look forward to reconnecting with some old friends. :)

Hi Michele,
Oh we couldn't watch it, if memory serves it was a radio broadcast cast from the night the show was filmed but I could be mistaken on when it was broadcast.
But yes, it was very exciting, something I hope we all get to experience again. :)

If I remember correctly it was a tv simulcast. I remember posting during that time. I think I first discovered the ledge in 1995. So there was buildup to the events. In fact, people were going crazy!! :)

If tickets were refunded, I see no reason why they couldn't go on as a quintet.

I think it all depends on how the announcement is handled. I think if they did something like Saturday Night Live, Austin City Limits, and some of the late night shows, people could actually see she was back.

So I'm guessing touring with Christine in 2014 is not a likely scenario. Hopefully Fleetwood Mac will spend 2014 working on an album... but I have my doubts. We'll see.
The ideal would be for them to spend three months (more than enough time) in the studio recording Stevie and Christine's songs and adding the girls to the songs the boys did last year, hit the road in the summer, and have the album come out while they're on the road.

Fleetwood Mac performing on Austin City Limits is one of my biggest dreams! I do wonder if that would ever happen, though. None of Fleetwood Mac's peers have ever appeared on the show (Eagles, Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Tom Petty, etc). So it makes me wonder if they don't book those kind of big acts. The show seems to focus more on emerging and lesser known bands... or solo artists who are showcasing side projects apart from their famous bands.

The ideal would be for them to spend three months (more than enough time) in the studio recording Stevie and Christine's songs and adding the girls to the songs the boys did last year, hit the road in the summer, and have the album come out while they're on the road.

I am a harsh critic of the amount of time Fleetwood Mac takes to record an album, but there's another side to that coin. The EP was recorded quickly, and sounds like a thrown together mess. These 5 haven't recorded a studio album together in nearly 27 years. If they need to take their time to get their groove back and make it right, I'm all for that. I want the last Mac album to be a masterpiece, not something sloppily excreted like the EP.

We just need someone at the Stevie BN signing to ask her the question about Christine!!!!

I just heard (like 20 minutes ago), a live interview with Stevie on KLOS 95.5. She was promoting the IYD DVD signing tomorrow. The DJ asked her about Christine and Stevie said something along the lines of that she thought it was funny that supposedly Christine had to ask US to be back - it's HER BAND!! (LOL) She said, it'd be like, can I come in my own house? She did mention that her and Lindsey told her that if she wanted to come back to keep in mind although it is fun, it's still grueling. So to keep that in mind when/if she decides.

She also said that any future plans regarding Fleetwood Mac (including touring and/or new music) is kind of up in the air until January because of John's situation. She said they expect John to make a full recovery, but he does have to have surgery. She mentioned they are still doing the Vegas shows (1 public and 2 private).

(Just saw someone posted a link to the interview on the Stevie boards)

You don't think the market is saturated with Fleetwood Mac just touring last year?
Well, I was talking about them doing an Aussie/New Zealand tour as a quintet, however, I also think they could do another U.S. tour. A year is a long time, and lots of bands do summer tours every year. If it's properly promoted (and, with Irvin Azoff as their manager, it WILL be properly promoted...wag-the-dog), it could be one of the hottest tickets over the summer.

Fleetwood Mac performing on Austin City Limits is one of my biggest dreams! I do wonder if that would ever happen, though. None of Fleetwood Mac's peers have ever appeared on the show
Pearl Jam and Neil Young have done it, and they're at least on par with Fleetwood Mac. Also, Steve Winwood, Warren Zevon, and the Allman Bros. have done it. I think it would be a great way to show that the classic version of the band is back.

I am a harsh critic of the amount of time Fleetwood Mac takes to record an album, but there's another side to that coin. The EP was recorded quickly, and sounds like a thrown together mess. I think it would be possible if they keep Froom. They're more mature, sober, and have (except for Christine) developed tighter chops from the tour, and technology has advanced to the point where it would be possible.

BTW, I'm not going to ever claim that this would be "the last Mac album." With Christine back and with an outside producer, I think they have several more albums left in them.

I, as a huge long-time obsessive fan, feel I have also earned the right to be a harsh critic too. You share my feelings about the EP. A strange, half-ass anomaly in their history.

Fleetwood Mac is a strange animal, even among their peers. Even considering all their off-shoot solos albums, their body of released work is shockingly slim (discounting the compilations and live albums). Once was a time ago when bands had to produce at least one album a year, just to stay in the game.

I recall in 1982, when Mirage was released, the press hailed it as a reunion, since they hadn't recorded a new album since 1979...a long three years ago! Since then, that streak of productivity went out the window.

Compared to other bands of longevity and continued activity, their output is stingy. I guess we can ration it as quality over quantity (the concession being the solo work).

I'm afraid Louie that if Mitchell Froom is brought in to produce an entire album, you'll get an extension of the Extended Play EP. Froom has produced many fine albums for other artists in the past, but his approach is a bit prosaic for the Mac. If Lindsey doesn't produce the sessions, they need to engage the services of someone who properly understands the layered wall of sound that encapsulates the band at it's best (circa Tusk). I don't know if Dave Stewart is up to the task or not, but someone like Daniel Lanois might be a good fit. They can't afford to **** this one up.

I was around during the Dance era (lurking but not posting on the Ledge). This feels pretty similar... the small crumbs of information being dropped at a steady pace. Soon we'll have a full-on media onslaught of what's going down. But like Stevie said in her interview, it all hinges on John's health, and what Chris wants to do (record, tour, etc). I'm guessing the framework for everything has actually already been laid, the band just has to remain mum until they get their current contractual obligations out of the way (the 3 concerts).

Didn't that happen to Bob Welch?

I was unaware Bob asked to return to the band after he left?

He didn't (unless you count that time he offered to temporarily come back after Lindsey quit), but Bob DID have to ask if he could come in his own house at one point when he lived in L.A. way back when.

I like the simpler approach. The Brian Wilson/Phil Spector/wall-of-sound thing is great on one level, except I don't like all of the extra musicians that come with it in concert, and it's been done. I just want to hear and see the five. (Okay, Brett can come along as an auxiliary player, but THAT'S IT).

Froom's work with Richard Thompson (especially "Dangerous Adventures," "Rumor and Sigh," and "Mirror Blue") was great because it was minimalist, yet tasteful. Not over the top, but not lacking, and it highlighted Thompson's talents as a writer and guitarist. At THIS stage in their career, this is exactly what Fleetwood Mac needs, IMO. They're the elder statesmen, not the kids trying to make a name for themselves.

If Lindsey doesn't produce the sessions, they need to engage the services of someone who properly understands the layered wall of sound that encapsulates the band at it's best (circa Tusk).
Sadly, that person is Richard Dashut, and they burned that bridge a long time ago.

I don't know if Dave Stewart is up to the task or not, but someone like Daniel Lanois might be a good fit. They can't afford to **** this one up.

Dave might be a good choice. However, I'm not sure if he's up to the strong wills within the band.

At one point I probably would have disagreed with you... that's going backwards, not forwards. But having heard the albums Ken has produced for his daughter Colbie, the man still has the magic touch; probably more so than ever. Colbie's albums sound more like classic Fleetwood Mac than anything the band has recorded in decades. There's an equal amount of layering & space... a magical formula Fleetwood Mac hasn't been able to replicate since their heyday.

That being said, the band has most certainly burned their bridges with Richard, and I suspect they may have with Ken, too. I can't see Fleetwood Mac courting Ken and/or Richard, but stranger things have happened when it comes to this band, that's for sure.

According to Ken's book, they have both been frozen out of contact with the band for many years. Richard became disgusted with this some years ago, threw away all of his Fleetwood Mac memorabilia, and refuses to speak about his time with them anymore. It seems there was more involved than that; I need to reread Ken's book.

I know Richard was at two of Lindsey's solo concerts I saw in Vegas (Steve was with Richard). I wouldn't be surprised if he could be cajoled back to produce, but I don't think the band would be interested.

Thinking of Richard, I was just reading an article where Mick was talking about some condition (hypoglycemia?) he got which made him sick during a press conference and Christine rubbed his shoulders to try to give him release. Anyway, he said this illness gave him visions which came true. One of the visions he saw was a policeman with Richard and sure enough when he called Richard, Richard said that a policeman friend of his had visited the studio, while Mick was away.

i remember reading that statement from Ken too, besides the ones that current FM band members don't answer his phone calls, and thinking how statements about Richard seem weird, considering:

a) Richard lived with Lindsey at the time he was according to Ken not getting paid ;
b) Richard and Steve were at Lindsey's show in Vegas i believe on UTS tour and Lindsey said they were his partners in crime or something like that - that they are to blame he was up there on that stage;
and last but not least:
c) that in 2012 Richard said he was very open to working with Lindsey.

The one exception to this is Patrick Leonard, whose production on "Love Shines" and "Heart of Stone" is exceptional. Eons better than Greg Ladanyi's production of "Behind the Mask" and even more creative than Dashut's production of songs on "Time."

Bob wold not have worked well in that vein. At the time, the band wanted someone who could fill in the vacancy left by Lindsey, someone who could also sing his songs. Bob was so creative and original but not at all compatible with those expectations. I also think that after Lindsey left, the band's big concern was commercial viability. Bob had ceased to be commercially viable years earlier.

This isn't to say his rejoining couldn't have produced a fascinating mix and change to the sound. I would have loved to have heard his talk/sing alongside Nicks. The band could have really pushed the mystical. Instead, they went straight up generic.

On this station, "The Trash" they played clips of Stevie and were making fun of Stevie telling Christine it's a grueling 2 hour and 40 minute show and she can't just come and go by saying, yeah Fleetwood Mac is known for their stage diving and flying into the crowd and if Christine doesn't want to do that at 70 years old, she should just get out. And they said of the 26 songs that FM sings, Christine would have to do seven of them.

In other words, they didn't seem to think that the show FM puts on is that grueling. It was pretty funny, but kind of unfair, because I do think that the show FM puts on can take the energy out of you.

So, then they also commented on Stevie saying that if she had any ounce of psychic power in her body, she knew that John would be fine. They start playing Stevie about 1 minute into the clip.

Not to mention she sings backup on just about every song.

Stevie is also funny.. like Christine can't understand at this point in her career that once she commits she can't just up and leave again. I'm gonna guess Christine is aware how hard touring is by now.

Regarding the Access Hollywood interview, I think Stevie approaches Christine coming back into the group in a very realistic, sensible manner. Like Stevie says, "IT IS HER BAND...MCVIE...MAC..IT'S HERS" "We'll have see how the cards fall." Stevie wants to make sure Christine really knows what she's getting herself into. Spoken like a true friend. Stevie is even giving Lindsey a lot of credit in the interview.

So, Fleetwood Mac has changed, based on what Stevie said to Access. It's no longer like signing up to join the army. Instead, it's like signing on to do a movie. That's dangerously close to Lindsey's statement about painting and movie making, which I've been trying to escape.

Ok, I let Stevie slide when she said their stage show was 2 hours and 40 minutes long, but now she says it's almost 3 hours long.

I wouldn't say that FM rocks that hard. They don't do anything that they weren't doing when Christine was there anyway. First of all they like to put 3 flaming songs together -- but they did that with Chris. I'd actually like to see I Know I'm Not Wrong return. But Tusk, Stand Back and GYOW were all there with Christine. And so was Gold Dust Woman. GDW manages to sound a little different each go round and I look forward to hearing it with Christine back.

Rhiannon actually rocks LESS than it did when Christine was there. I hope it gets a little fire back.

Then, ISA does rock, but they've always done at least one song with a long guitar solo with Christine there as well. They never did Come while she was there, but heaven help Lindsey if he tries to put that thing back into an FM setlist.

I didn't mean it that way. I don't think Christine would have anything morally against Come. She's not really the type to raise such concerns. I just think Lindsey will definitely not be able to have Come and ISA in the same FM setlist again, with 3 of them.

Unfortunately, the fact that Lindsey does a song with Fleetwood Mac does not deter him from doing it solo and, the fact that he does it solo does not stop him from doing it with Fleetwood Mac. I wish that were not the case.

I have nothing against Come solo. Indeed, Come sounded excellent during the OMS, which is more than I can say for other songs.

i know, i'm talking about how it would affect me. it wouldn't much.

the fact that he's not doing In Our Own Time with the Mac when other band members are doing solo songs just so they can have something rocking in the set is what does affect me. because i want to hear IOOT with the band. and i know that will never ever happen. :distress:

if he would do Walk a Thin Line solo, i would not care much whether he does it with the Mac. the fact that Christine will be back and that Mick says WATL is one of his favorite songs ever makes me want to hear it with the Mac (plus the fact that every time i went to m&g i kept telling Mick they need to do WATL... well other than that one time when i questioned why are they not doing Oh Well :p).

This got me curious as to when the last time Christine toured the way FM has been touring recently...Going back through the tour schedules the last time she played 60+ shows was...Any guesses??? The Tusk tour...So to say she's been doing this for decades is an understatement...Stevie and Lindsey have both made it clear 60 to 80 2-1/2 hour shows is a lot of hard work... Well, I can't believe she would ever take it on if she wasn't going to follow through.

With The Dance, they weren't contracted for more than 30. It was only after the tickets flew out the window like doves that they had the opportunity to expand the tour and she declined. It's not like she changed her mind on them or anything. She did what she promised.

She did it pretty consistently from 1967 through 1990.

Not really. The shows are more of a formality in the grand scheme of touring. Getting up on stage is really the reward. If anything, the interviews and all of that crap is a lot harder than performing. Given the scale of their tours, even the hard parts of touring really do not effect them much. They're not traveling in vans and loading their gear in and out. So, yes, there is work, but it's not the hardest job in the world by far.

yeah. poor little millionaire rock stars.

actually i don't remember Lindsey ever saying touring is such hard work. he said it's hard because of the band politics, but not actual concerts. he usually says how hard he works in the studio compared to other band members. he and Mick do look like they work harder on the stage than other band members, but i don't remember them complaining about it being hard work.

Last week or so, when I was talking about Christine being in love, that was from 2001. I just found the interview. It was Stevie talking to a Massachusetts radio station in August 2001.

Valerie: You’re listening to Spotlight on Stevie Nicks, as we hear Fleetwood Mac, and Stevie’s female counterpart, Christine McVie. Stevie told me what Chistine’s up to these days, and joining another reunion of Fleetwood Mac is, apparently, not on her agenda.

Stevie: Well, she has a castle, you know, an incredible English castle , and she’s an incredible chef, and she’s an incredible gardener and she has lots of dogs and animals, and, she’s probably got horses by now and I think she’s going out with somebody. I think she’s in love. She’s not leaving.

I honestly think that she's just playing coy. It seems pretty much like the stage is set for Christine to return. John needs to wind down his treatments, and then Fleetwood Mac has to fulfill it's 3 (non Christine) show obligations. The band won't announce anything official until those are taken care of. After that, all their managers, etc will probably gather & hammer out the details. I just don't think any of them can say anything terribly official until some of these things have come to pass.

Well, if baseball players are any reference, most of them are bald, balding or have a definite "friar's patch" on the back of their head, depending on how long they've played the game.

Same is true for cowboys & country singers who wear hats constantly.

Main reason why I RARELY wear a hat. EVER. (I don't even use the hood of my hoodies, either)

I agree that it's mainly genetics. I just think the friction of having a cap rub against your scalp on an almost daily basis might accelerate the hair loss, if you are prone to suffer it in the first place.

Now, what about gray hair? I think I have seen both John and Lindsey's get suspiciously darker in the past, but I haven't caught Mick coloring his hair. Maybe I just didn't notice.

My dad always wear hats and he was thinning and never turn grey even at 79 when I lost him .

He always wear baseball cap to cover his thinning spot on back of his head and keep the sun out of his eyes. He was buried with his favorite cap which he always had on and it said US Army 101 Airborne veteran on it.

This realisation has been difficult for me to accept because previously, I idolised the woman. I still retain a profound regard for her body of work up until 1990 and various output since, but the sense of self-importance that has become so evident during interviews in recent years has left me cold. I'm not sure if this inflation of ego has been in response to what she considers the mistreatment and disrespect afforded to her in the past by band members, producers and critics, but whatever it might be, she is no longer a person I would care to know.

I couldn't have said it better myself. She was just plain sarcastic when she said Chris "doesn't have to be invited back because she is the Mac-y'know-MAC-vie".First of all she isn't the MAC-John is.Chris only got the MAC through marriage. Her personality totally changed-maybe she's hanging with Lindsey too much.Or,as far fetched as this sounds, maybe her mom kept her in check and told her to wise up when her attitude needed adjusting. But now that her mom is gone, maybe she needs someone to mentally kick her butt.Let me at her......;)

I don't think she was being hateful towards Christine one iota. I think Stevie was just expressing that (the Rumours incarnation of) Fleetwood Mac is like a family. Even if you spend time away from your family, you never have to ask permission to come back to the dinner table. It's just understood that you're always welcome.

The way he brushes his hair back and plasters it to the top of this head definitely does him no favors. I would never, ever consider him athletic looking, either. Well, speaking for myself, it's the "We love you Stevie" screams when Christine is doing an intro for "Oh Daddy," the chiffon at a Peter Green/Splinter Group at Wilbur's in Cleveland, and the chiffon at a Mick Fleetwood's Zoo show when Bekka Bramlett was in the band (though that makes MUCH more sense than at the Peter Green show).

Mostly, though, it's that notion that Stevie Nicks is the only reason Fleetwood Mac is a popular band, that anything prior to 1975 the band was just playing blues and was unsuccessful, and that how dare the band go on with a "hussy"/"Stevie wannabe" like Bekka Bramlett. They refuse to acknowledge that the band already had a legitimate greatest hits album in Europe prior to 1975, that in twelve albums the band had never been dropped, that Christine McVie had more hit singles with the band, and that Stevie (like everyone else in the band) is NOT as big on her own as she is as a member of Fleetwood Mac.

I know not all chiffon-heads are like that, but it adds up.

Also, I think Stevie has been hit-or-miss, with more misses, since 1983. She uses a lot of the same vocal runs throughout an album, EVERY album, anymore.

All of this is unfortunately true. It was Stevie who lured me in when I was 11 (1982). We had Rumours at home and I had heard every inch of that album by the time I was 10. But when "Gypsy" came out I was hooked. Thing is, the minute I bought Mirage and returned to Rumours, Stevie wasn't enough. I found myself really taken with Christine. For me, the turning point was when that same year I heard "Say You Love Me" and this sound made me shiver with excitement. I had NEVER heard a lead voice carry a song like this. By 1983, I had most of the pre-1975 albums and realized this was a band with MANY heroes.

I think Stevie's new solo work is excellent, and I like the way she has grown into her vocals and is making the most of a diminished range. But I get sooooooooooo annoyed, for instance, when I'm watching a YouTube clip of a Christine performance or some pre-BN song and there's all manner of Stevie madness in the comments. Yes, she is great, but when she isn't out front or present, try to enjoy what is in front of you, or don't say anything at all.

Yes, I don't think she was being sarcastic. I mean, she was saying that she thinks Christine is being a little disingenous suggesting she is waiting to be asked. So, her response to Christine saying that was a little arch. On the other hand, Christine was being a little precious when she said it, so touche. But Stevie was also saying that FM is Christine's home, no matter how long she's been gone. She's still part of the band and can return any time she wants.

The way he brushes his hair back and plasters it to the top of this head definitely does him no favors. I would never, ever consider him athletic looking, either.

No, I wouldn't say athletic when I see that soft tummy of his. Now, to me he is more shaving some of his hair behind the receding hairline and then after the shave point, he was fluffing the rest straight up in the air. He seems to be kind of making a straight edge or something. I don't know what you mean about plastering.

It's not the fans that refuse to acknowledge FM's success during the years Stevie / Lindsey weren't in the band it's the band and WB that tries to sweep the non SN/LB years under the carpet...I think it would be great if they didn't just focus on the Rumours thing...

As far as Stevie goes you can't have it both ways...You enjoy the success and visibility she brings FM but you don't like all the attention she gets...Christine may have had more hits but Stevie's FM songs have probably made more money...Yes FM is bigger than Stevie solo but Stevie solo is most likely bigger than LB,CM,MF and JM solo put together profit wise...As Stevie said a long time ago the other band members can have big solo careers if they want them all they need to do is go after it...

wait, wait... speaking for myself - no i do not. i'd rather LB tours solo, and has nothing to do with FM. he seems to enjoy the area adulation and visibility, not necessarily his fans.

you must see how strange this logic is. so are you saying all the great and talented bands that are not hugely successful just don't want it enough?? or by extension all the people who can't find good jobs in their respective fields just don't want them enough? people go after stuff, success is a strange combination of luck, serendipity, talent, hard work, etc, etc.

if it's SN that says stuff like what you stated, you are partly answering your own question of why people's annoyance with her fans translates to her - seems that many things her fans keep repeating originate from her statements which some people seem to take as gospel.

If you only knew how us Stevie fans wish she was the one hopping around on the Fleetwood Mac stage. We find it very frustrating that she tends to stand still most of the show. I think what Lindsey brings to the live setting is terrific. He always brings endless youthful energy and I really enjoy watching him. Sometimes his guitar solos feel endless but that is what he does. He plays guitar. He's entitled to have extended solos.

Yes. I think fans to have a tendency to take every off-the-cuff remark out of Stevie's mouth far more seriously than she would ever imagine. And they are often resistant to the notion that people can change their minds or rethink things very quickly. I know many fans are hungry for all they can get their hands on when it comes to Stevie, but it just gets silly. If people picked apart everything I said and held me to every off-the-cuff comment I've ever made, I have no idea what they'd think of me, but I've no doubt it would be pretty distorted.

If you only knew how us Stevie fans wish she was the one hopping around on the Fleetwood Mac stage. \

And she WOULD be hopping around the stage if she still could. She used to do that. Leaping and jumping and twirling and running, sometimes as part of a song and sometimes just as a result of natural exuberance. The only thing she chooses is her footwear. Different (less attractive) shoes might accommodate her physical limitations more and give her more endurance and I would welcome those, ugly reeboks or not. But in the end, arthritis or osteoporosis has impacted her a bit.

For one-off appearances she's more her old self, she moves and sings differently, when she knows she won't have to sustain that for dozens of shows. But when she knows it's a long tour, she's got to reserve her resources and not take risks.

She can't be a whirlwind physically. It's not like what she does is a choice and not as if what Lindsey is doing is different from what he's always done in FM. I can find 35 year old reviews talking about his crazy energy, just like they talk about it today. He can do what he used to do for 2-3 hours (and I guess goes comatose after) and Stevie can't do what she used to do. He didn't just decide to do it to steal her thunder. He's always been doing it. She used to do it.

I daresay that statement actually lends us to getting back on topic. If Christine wrote more "hits"... then doesn't that stand to reason that her songs are capable of being (if not flat out) responsible for more sales? Tango In The Night for example was the band's biggest seller (other than Rumours) and it had tons of "Chris hits." Now then, go look at the current line up and Say You Will... the album sales weren't a runaway, though the tour was a giant. I'd say without Christine, the band as a whole has suffered, and Stevie still being in the band hasn't kept the group elevated the enough to maintain the "success" you keep referring to. It's all of them equally. Not just Stevie.

THANK YOU, Steve. Exactly. It's like the Stevie fans think of the rest of FM as her backing band.

Back in the day, the front 3 were pretty much tied for popularity(in my mind). But just seeing how her fans pretty much disrespected the rest of the band, and only seeing sunshine coming from her ass, drove her to the bottom of my list.

There are many times I roll my eyes at the bone-headed utterances from some of Stevie's fans. Responses in the comments section of articles or YouTube videos, or things they say on The Ledge. I'm a die-hard Stevie fan, and I know there have been times when I've been accused of defending her every move (an unfair criticism, but, hey, it comes with the territory), but some folks truly do take it to nauseating levels. They make you embarrassed to admit that you have anything in common with them.

However, I've encountered plenty of Lindsey and (to a much lesser extent) Christine fans who are equally over-the-top. There may be less of them (that's not a dig), so that's why their behavior may seem less oppressive... but they're out there (and in here).

I can relate when people like David (HomerMcVie) say that Stevie's fans have soured them on her, because some of Lindsey's fans have definitely soured him for me at times. And he was always my second favorite Maccer... so that's saying a lot.

I try not to let other fans effect my enjoyment though... it tends to feel somewhat irrational. Lindsey is no more responsible for his fans than Stevie is for her fans. But I think it's only human to sometimes think of their fans when thinking of them.

I'm a Stevie fan because her lyrics speak to me most. But I believe that all FM members are equal when it comes to generating the money these days. Its seems like its been Lindsey, Mick and John (?) pushing for the tours - and these are the big money spinners. I get the feeling that a vast majority of those buying concert tickets are FM (rather than just Stevie) fans.

Anyway, I'm sure Mick, John, Chris, and Lindsey going out as Fleetwood Mac could be as viable as solo Stevie. It's never been done, and Stevie won't let that happen, but I think they would still be successful and unmistakably Fleetwood Mac.

^Mmm... still debatable though. I think it would be a financial blow to the band if Stevie left, but then someone might argue that since SYW, the band hasn't been money-bags successful (aside from touring) anyway. In Your Dreams didn't exactly light up the charts... and I don't think if the band did another round of the current "foursome" lineup in the studio that afterwards they'd have much success in sales. Clearly they need the magic of all 5 back. Stevie is a part of that, like they all are... Imagine if Lindsey left the band (God forbid) again and Chris came back. I can't imagine anyone would care so much about a Chris, Stevie, John, Mick lineup and you'd have a financial blow yet again.

But, what if Stevie left and Chris came back? I'm not sure how much of a financial blow that would really be.

It's academic, since Stevie's not going anywhere if Christine comes back.

That may be overestimating the effect that Christine's return would have on album sales. IYD did about as well as I could have expected, and better than many of the latest releases by Stevie's peers. I think a new studio album from Fleetwood Mac would fare similarly, even with all five members. The 70s and 80s are history. In order to "light up" the charts, they would have to sell to a lot of people young enough to be their grandchildren.

Well, that ^ ^ ^ may be the case, BUT you ALL have to remember that music is first and foremost a business and NOT necessarily a band of 5 getting together just because they LOVE to do what they love to do!!

The fact is, FM became a very wealthy act after Rumors, to a degree that none of them expected. Problem is, everyone had their hand in that "Tour till" and it ultimately (and subsequent tours as well) made lil or no money. Mick, with his "wildly spendy ways" wound up BK and sleeping on a couch in someone's basement in the 80s as a member of one of the largest acts in the world. So, are we equating success and who makes the $$ in the band with how well their tour did or what they actually KEPT after everyone was paid??? $$ Advantage: Stevie

Fast Forward to modern day and FM is still a business. Sure, a large percentage of ticket buyers go to see Stevie and she is surely "THE DRAW" on ALL nights, BUT FM in and of itself is still a largely successful touring tour de force. Would they come if Stevie weren't in the line-up? I 'd reckon that many would NOT, stating the same familiar refrain that its JUST NOT the same. Does Stevie care?? I am not sure that she does from a business standpoint since she has so many singer/songwriter royalties that the checks can't be cashed fast enough. This leaves the band in the unenviable position of "dealing" with the fact that the true star of the show is Stevie for BOTH personal and economic reasons. Lets face it, without her, LB, MF, JM and CM could never pull in collectively or individually what she does. So, like it or not, chiffonhead fan of her or NOT, La Stevie Nicks IS the band.

A post above asked what is it about chiffonheads that disagree with some?? Easy answer, the pure unadulterated adulation of Stevie and the fact that she can DO no wrong, say NO wrong and never be wrong. Maybe its those who dress like her at concerts (although Ive seen guys at LB concerts sporting jeans and leather jackets too)? Who knows and perhaps, its NOT definable, BUT there are those chiffonheads that truly get on ones nerves. Maybe some of us are JUST not as diehard as others or we realize that a singer is NOT what she is, IT is just what she does.

Then why can't she draw on her own what she draws with Fleetwood Mac?

It's never been tested what the others could do without her collectively. I'm sure they could EASILY draw what she does as a solo artist.

She doesnt??? The last time she came to Chicago at Allstate, she nearly sold OUT and IIRC, her #s were as strong as FM in attendance. BUT, put it conversely, I'd love to see (as you speculate) how FM would do at the same arena without Stevie??? Neither Lindsey (solo) nor Mick has ever drawn what Stevie did individually. Last time LB was at the St Charles Theatre Arcada (O Shows) , he didn't even sell out a 900 seat forum. Stevie sold OUT the Rosemont Theatre which is 20 times the size.

Fact is, all of their set-list is geared toward Stevie being at the mic and 90% of them are there to see her do GDW and Rhiannon etc etc. Not a single one would miss So Afraid.

I think it all depends on the type of marketing campaign. I don't see it lighting up the charts, but I think they could still do well.

Oh, I think it would do well too, but my definition of "well" for FM in 2014 is very different from FM in 1977 or Taylor Swift in 2012. I see a new album opening in the Top 10, probably staying there for a couple of weeks and then dropping off quickly. A big radio hit is a long-shot. SN and LB have written radio-worthy tunes in the last decade, but the band is just too old for that. Radio plays the new hits by young artists and the classic hits by the older ones.

The thing is, Fleetwood Mac is one of those iconic bands that everybody knows and a lot of people like or love because of a deep catalog of well-known songs. But I don't think the average concert-goer really knows who is in the band, besides maybe Stevie. The Eagles, arguably the only band bigger than FM in the 70s, are the same way. Most people wouldn't be able to tell you their convoluted personnel history; they just know that they will hear a bunch of big hits if they go to their show. That's why I don't think Christine's return can really transform the Mac much from what they are now. Sure we will all love to see her, but I just don't see that the attendance and ticket prices can go much higher.

She doesnt??? The last time she came to Chicago at Allstate, she nearly sold OUT and IIRC, her #s were as strong as FM in attendance.
You just made my point. Stevie NEARLY sold out an arena (Allstate) that seats 18,500, while Fleetwood Mac DID sell out an arena (United Center) that seats 23,500. In other words, Stevie on her own could NOT sell out 18,500, but DID sell out an arena that seats 5,000 more people with Fleetwood Mac. The band IS bigger than Stevie.

To put it another way, you'll never see the modern Fleetwood Mac open for Rod Stewart.

BUT, put it conversely, I'd love to see (as you speculate) how FM would do at the same arena without Stevie???
Assuming Christine was back, I think it would be easy. Everybody in the band would have been part of the classic line-up, including the writer with the most Fleetwood Mac hit singles. There's something to market.

Neither Lindsey (solo) nor Mick has ever drawn what Stevie did individually.
Lindsey and Mick aren't trying to play to mainstream crowds with their extracurricular activities.

Fact is, all of their set-list is geared toward Stevie being at the mic and 90% of them are there to see her do GDW and Rhiannon etc etc. Not a single one would miss So Afraid.
They'd change the set-list. Yes, those songs would be missed, but SYLM, YMLF, Songbird, Everywhere, etc. are missed, too. There are plenty of songs between Lindsey and Christine to make for a good Fleetwood Mac set.

That's why I don't think Christine's return can really transform the Mac much from what they are now. Sure we will all love to see her, but I just don't see that the attendance and ticket prices can go much higher.
I think it all depends on how they handle her return. If there's a media blitz, it could be huge. Look at one small interview did. Within a couple of days the story was one of the most trended on the web. There IS an interest.

everyone knows the name Fleetwood Mac. many know the name Stevie Nicks. nobody knows the name Lindsey Buckingham. many know the name Brian Wilson. everybody knows the name Beach Boys. Beach Boys (Brian Wilson-less) play the arenas at the same time Brian Wilson plays little theaters. it's in the name and the legendary band status recognition.

Fact is, all of their set-list is geared toward Stevie being at the mic and 90% of them are there to see her do GDW and Rhiannon etc etc. Not a single one would miss So Afraid.
there are a number of tracks the set is geared towards. read the reviews. every single one of them says how they open with the bang, with the couple of their huge tracks that everyone knows - Second Hand News and The Chain. the foursome can easily do those without Stevie and it would be hardly noticed. ;)

What a terrible comparison. Steve Perry was THE vocalist for Journey; Fleetwood Mac had THREE vocalists, all of whom had hit singles with the band. And, yes, a lot of people would go see Fleetwood Mac if it were only fronted by TWO of the THREE vocalists.

BTW, Phil Collins is thinking about a summer 2014 Tour. Would you go to see him solo without Genesis??
I don't see the point, here. Phil Collins has been THE vocalist for Genesis since Peter Gabriel quit (save for that short time in the '90s). And, since Genesis ditched their prog roots and became a fluff pop band, the difference between Phil's solo career and Genesis is minimal.

ETA: However, the Genesis example shows how the band was able to continue and go further commercially once Gabriel was out of the band. In other words, the band was still bigger than it's former vocalist/songwriter.

Regarding Christine fans... most of the behavior I was thinking of, was several years ago. It really isn't anything that I'm seeing now. But I have seen it, so I felt it worth mentioning. Of Fleetwood Mac's "Holy Trinity" (Chris, Stevie & Lindsey), Christine's fans tend to be the most level-headed in general.

As far as the actions of Lindsey fans... well, I've already pointed some of that out before. However, it usually gets excused or rationalized away -- so no sense in re-hashing it. Nevertheless, examples abound.

(* I'm sure it doesn't need to be pointed out, but I'm talking about a select group of fans. Not lumping them all together.)

That might be bigger for that reason, but Fleetwood Mac was always a lot bigger than Journey. Fleetwood Mac was like the Beatles of the late '70s/early '80s. Journey was Gerry & The Pacemakers at best.

So, Amazon just started in 1995, long after the Eagles hey day and the Eagles greatest hit album was #2 on the list of all time Amazon best sellers.

Rumours was #10.

I agree with the poster who said if you go to see the Eagles, mostly you go for the songs, not the individual performers. Obviously, they all have their own focused fans, but the vast majority of casual listeners just don't know them, one from the other. I expect Heartache Tonight, whether Glenn, Don or whatever other stray might be in the band.

yes, but i think that's the same with FM or Beach Boys or Lynyrd Skynyrd or other older bands' "fans" (really, crowds that go see them). they go see the band and the hits, songs that they know from hearing them 1000 times. Beach Boys probably play their hits, Brian Wilson doesn't. FM is missing a good number of hits now, with Christine not touring.

it was actually interesting in Glasgow. after the show, bunch of people would go to the bar at the hotel right next to the venue. that bar always plays the hits from whoever is playing Hydro that night. the first night we were there, Rod Stewart played Hydro, so they played his songs for hours (have to say - RS has really old fan demographic, even older that the mac!). the night FM played Hydro, the bar played FM songs... and more than half of the songs they played were Christine McVie songs.

Well, it was pretty passive/aggressive, no? And not even the "diva" part (which is hardly an insult). But the implication that the "weight she's pulling" in the band isn't in proportion to the weight others (*cough* Lindsey *cough*) are pulling, and the notion that, in spite of this apparent lack of weight-pulling, she would never accept being equal to anyone else in Fleetwood Mac, even Christine.

That's a pretty mild example, for sure, but -- since you were asking about examples -- there's one.

it wasn't meant to be passive-aggressive. it's been reported that split within a band is not equal and that SN gets the biggest cut. as i mentioned in that post - she has the leverage (she can go out with people like RS and make FM kind of money). that's how it works, no? you have the leverage, you can get what you want.

re weight pulling, i don't think that SN would say she's doing more for the overall show or album preparation than LB, or that she's doing more work on the stage than him (therefore Mick's intro of him never leaving the stage) so i wouldn't even try to hide that's what i meant.

re diva, chiffs constantly put out as a "fact" that Lindsey is a diva. and every time i see it it feels like it's put out there to either elicit reactions or just create a bad vibe about the guy - but maybe chiffs don't even notice that they are doing it.

And how do you feel about the young chickies that get planted in front of Lindsey, who make googly eyes at him all night, and chat with him & yell things to him while Stevie's introducing a song or singing?

I haven't heard you complain about it.

i started a whole thread about it. not because of Stevie, but because of fans who stand in GA line all day to be first in the venue at the stage, only to come in and find bunch of people already planted at the stage and they can't get to it. it's unfair towards those people. it happened numerous times, and examples i know were Dublin and Amsterdam, where that happened to my friends.

additionally, if people make a conversation with LB during Stevie's intros, at least they are in front of him, not her. i haven't seen or heard of people who stand in front of SN and ignore her while she talks, just to yell stuff to LB.

Well, it's a bit different coming from women in their '60s and '70s than from a 36 year old man in good health. The ladies can put their statements into context.

I doubt even at 36 Stevie would have been allowed in the military.

Still, saying something is "like being in the Army" is a very different statement from saying the job is as hard as being in the military.

I could see how somebody would consider tours of that size like being in the Army, with the air tight schedules, heavy orchestration, constant movement, very little sleep, not being able to call in sick, being away from home for extended periods, etc. There are a lot of logistics going on there. So saying there are similarities doesn't seem all that questionable.

But saying it's harder than being in the military is bull*****. If Kanye believes that, then he should get off of his spoiled pampered ass and give it a try.

Definitely saying something is like the army or boot camp or mortal combat is different from actually believing your job is harder than a service man's.

Who said I didn't like LB? I like him just fine, but I happen to be a huge Stevie fan. I thought you wanted an example of an avid LB fan annoying a Stevie fan, since there are apparently so many examples of the reverse.

if that's a kind of post that presses your buttons, you would be constantly annoyed with chiffs if you were LB fan

Well that's kind of my point....it works both ways. There are fans of both SN and LB who are so overzealous that they alienate, even disrespect, the other side, even though this is a fan forum for both. The only thing that really pushes my buttons is when people complain about certain behavior when they are equally guilty of it.

see, i think your example is great because you labeled as biased speculation meant to inflame the post where i really just stated things that were reported before, in a regular press or stated by the band - that money split between the band is not equal, or that LB does more work in the band. are these things are not true? i didn't say that there's something wrong with that, and frankly given their positions, i don't think it is.

i had to re-read my post a few times before i could believe that was really the post you are referring to, at first i thought you were just pulling my chain. and that is why i asked for examples - we all apparently say stuff that highly annoy other fans on this board, and we are not even aware of it.

i agree that it works both ways. but i'm trying to understand whether it's equally done from all sides.

The part that I thought was speculative and inflammatory was that Stevie is too big a diva to accept a 25/25/25 split if Christine comes back. We have no idea how the managers will hammer out the finances if that happens, and you don't know what Stevie is willing to accept to have Chris back. Stevie's off-the-cuff remark about paying Chris $5M, while probably not literal, would indicate she is willing to part with some dough to accommodate Chris's return. I think the current split is fair for the foursome, and the 25/25/25 split would be fair with Christine in the mix. It's not as crazy as you made it sound.

I'm not saying Stevie has never shown diva-like behavior, but who hasn't? Of course she is aware, just as we all are, that she's the biggest star outside the band. But within the context of the band, she has often referred to herself as the little sister, and Mick has publicly stated that she has a much easier time being a member of a group than Lindsey does.

It may not be equal from both sides because (and again this is not a dig at LB), Stevie has a larger fanbase and thus more "defenders." The point is, that sort of behavior just begets more of the same, so I can't see how anyone can engage in it for one "team" and then complain when they see it coming from the other.

Johnny Stew

i agree that it works both ways. but i'm trying to understand whether it's equally done from all sides.

Does it really matter if it's "equal?" I've seen extremely disrespectful actions from both "sides," and bogging ourselves down with a "who does it the most/does it worse" debate isn't going to move anything forward.

Look, I'm not excusing the boorish behavior of some Nicks fans. I see it and it bothers me too. Perhaps it even bothers me more, because I am a Nicks fan and I know for a fact that we don't all think Fleetwood Mac lives and dies by her involvement (even if we happen to prefer when she's a part of the lineup).

My original point was, and remains, that it seems short-sighted and unfair to hold the actions of their respective fan-bases against Stevie and Lindsey.

example that Johnny Stew and i were discussing points it out:

people stand in front of Lindsey, ignore him, and yell things to Stevie.
people stand in front of Lindsey, ignore Stevie, and talk to Lindsey.

Knowing human behavior, I have a hard time imagining that Lindsey fans never stand in front of Stevie, ignore her, and yell things to him. You may not have witnessed it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. (And if you're not standing in front of Stevie during shows, would you even notice it happening?)

nicely said, agree with most of your post, other than the inflammatory part. but yeah any future split is definitively speculative, and that was what we were discussing at the time. i don't see the 3 singers getting 25 % each and the other 25% being split between Mick and John as realistic, others have other opinions - and it's fair everyone states what they think, on the discussion board.

hey, so you are in Vegas? you wanna get together for a drink or something?

I don't fault David either. Which is why I pointed out that I've had times when my enjoyment of Lindsey's music has been diminished by the actions of some of his biggest die-hards. I try not to let that happen, because it isn't Lindsey's fault -- but it has.

Also, why did they let her website expire? The domain name is $2,295. If she can't afford that, no wonder she is returning to the band. We better hire her now before she starts milking cows for a living.

As a celebrity, I think she should want to own the "com" url for her name even if she had NOTHING to put up on it, just to keep other critters from getting it. And if they didn't want to update it, just throw some basic information up and leave it there, rather than just letting the domain name expire. ‘We let go of that a long time ago’: Fleetwood Mac welcomes unexpected talk of Christine McVie reunion

by Something Else!, December 14, 2013

When Christine McVie started ruminating about a reunion with Fleetwood Mac, after making a rare appearance with her former band in London, fans weren’t the only ones shocked. So was Mick Fleetwood.

Fleetwood, of course, co-founded Fleetwood Mac in in 1967. McVie, then going by her maiden name of Perfect, officially joined three years later — helping form the foundation of a lineup, along with ex-husband John McVie, that would reach superstar status with the release of 1977′s mega-selling Rumours.

By 1998, however, McVie had left. Fleetwood Mac has continued forward as a four piece, with Lindsey Buckingham, Fleetwood, McVie and Stevie Nicks.

That said, McVie has permission to resume her place at any time, Fleetwood says.

“The thought of some picture that may or may not happen is still a lovely thought,” Fleetwood tells RCN TV. “We miss her. She’s magic. … We let go of that a long time ago, when she decided to hang it up, so to speak. But if she ever decides not to hang it up, she’d always be welcome.”

McVie’s surprise stop in London evolved out of a personal visit to Fleetwood’s home. “Chris is like my sister,” Fleetwood says. “She came to Hawaii, where I live, and we had the greatest time. It seems very normal for her to come and say hello. Anything else is all rumors, I’m afraid.”

No pun intended, right?

“People are going to say what they are going to say, and there’s really nothing we can do about it,” he says. “But it’s certainly not an awful thing to imagine — that she would be with us at some point in the future.”

That big pricetag is a result of something called "cybersquatting," when an entrepreneur buys a domain name that they think will be of interest to someone, and then try to resell it to the someone at a huge markup. A normal domain registration costs in the range of ten dollars a year.

Christine's team ought to just forget about the dot-com website name and get her a website called christinemcvie.info or christinemcvie.net or whatever. There are plenty of domain name extensions and the dot-com name doesn't have any special meaning, other than being the most commonly used. The website we're currently on, for example, is fleetwoodmac.net (not dot-com).

Right and I think the official band would be expected to have www.fleetwoodmac.com. If that name were available, it would be taken for THIS site, but it's the official site, which is the norm. John McVie is not using johnmcvie.com, but I think his people own it.

That's why Christine should have www.christinemcvie.com, because most people will assume that it's the official site and if the wrong person buys the name, they will try to capitalize on the mistake. I think that celebrities and professionals should always try to buy the com name if they can get it.

News of Christine's return to Fleetwood Mac will make the domain cost go even higher.

Yes she would have no trouble getting another website domain if she wanted one. But it's important to keep others away from com. Twitter has really started going crazy about that too. In the beginning, it was easy to swoop in and get a famous name before people realized how big twitter was going to be and Twitter made a point of saying that it allowed parody and fan accounts, so if you made it clear that you were not the actual celebrity, they would let you keep the account.

Now, I see they have gone around finding reasons to take back as many celebrity name accounts as they can, from those who are not really those people. In fact, it's not only people that they are doing it to. Twitter took the "Barbie" parody account away from the person who had it and gave it to Mattel. There is getting to be as much value in the Twitter user handle as in www domain names.

Remember when Clayton Morris gave Stevie that twitter account? That was funny.

That Clayton Morris/Realstevienicks twitter needs to be shut down also the fake ChristineMcvie twitter as well...It would be interesting to find out how Stevie got the @stevienicks twitter somebody must have already taken the name did twitter just let her have it? Or did she have to buy it?

So, they had their second meeting at Mick's house in Topanga Canyon. I know Christine has always been the one that mentioned a meeting at Mick's house and this was clarification for me that it was the second meeting after the Mexican restaurant. The others don't tend to talk about the next meeting.

Loved hearing her talking about Los Angeles this year, how she and Stevie met 30 minutes earlier then Lindsey walked in and then Mick and John and she felt the old chemistry, the completeness of five.

Just put the Billboard 2013 figures in the "Pollstar" thread. It said FM sold out 13 out of 45 shows. I thought it was more than 13 shows that were sold out just based on the newspaper reports in different cities.

So, they made almost $62 million. Wonder how much of that the band netted when all was said and done. Of course, if they had been able to complete the tour, they would have been higher on the top 20 list.

Wasn't that list just for North American shows?
