Yes it is, though it's lumped in with 77 other new songs this week towards the end of the list.:distress:
I'm somewhat conflicted about whether it was a smart move or not on WBR's part to offer a free download with In Your Dreams pre-order on Jan.13th. Almost 4 weeks before the single was official available for purchase online. For instance 99.9% of those that pre-ordered to get the song were going to buy the album anyway. And having the song now precludes the majority of those who pre-ordered to not purchase the single, where otherwise they would have, racking up probably upwards of a thousand downloads on release day and generating the excitement now when it's needed.
The YouTube leak has almost 42K hits as of today, which is not exactly a viral sensation after nearly 4 weeks. I hope Stevie puts out a wildly fantastic video in a couple of weeks that stirs the pot much more. Overall realistically I don't expect this song to be a "hit", I just want it to get a moderate amount of attention. I would have liked to see the YouTube leak generate over 100-200K views by now, that would have been promising. So unless Stevie & Warners have a better and more catchy single up their sleeve closer to the release date, I think IYD will be ballpark selling @ 10-25K copies in it's 1st week. Unfortunately that is Stevies & the record industry's new reality:angel:(unless your the latest & hottest thang.)
I think she'll far exceed that number opening week.

A couple of weeks ago the number 1 album in the U.S only sold about 50,000. That's horrible. When Stevie hit #5 in 2001 she sold over 100,000. She will sell more than 25k. She has 3 months left and she's coming off a tour and don't disount the two videos she has coming out. However, I'm sure that is going to take a long time for this album to go gold in the U.S., if it does go gold. The state of the music industry is just too bad.

Just imagine hypothetically... if it wasn't for the Ledge or any other fan sites, would you have known that a new single even exists? Perhaps you may have heard some rumblings from Dave Stewart's Twitter, which is hardly what I consider "mainstream media." Surely you will have found out about the Rod-Stevie tour, but from the Ellen appearance, you wouldn't have found out about a new single, let alone a new album. For the more ardent music fan, the mentions of Stevie's new album and single in the newest Rolling Stone may be the first time anyone has heard anything about it. And a handful of AAA stations seem to be playing "Secret Love." But for the 99% of the world that doesn't read RS or listen to AAA radio or read the Ledge, the new Stevie single/album is still completely off the radar. Those 42K hits on YouTube are repeat listenings from mostly hardcore fans.
I think the Stevie promotional engine is already stuck in first gear and is quickly losing ground. She seriously needed to get her name out there starting last year. She should have started appearing on other people's albums, appear at awards shows, appear at fashion shows, and gotten her name dropped in the mainstream media; Liz Rosenberg has been worthless. Unless she is going on an all-out promotional blitzkrieg in the two weeks following the tour, I just don't know how she's going to manage to raise her own visibility to any significant degree before the album drops.

Actually it was more like 40K. The spread among the Top 10 was only 32K - 40K. I think it goes without saying that Stevie will debut at No. 1 if this trend continues. You simply cannot discount the fact that she performed for hundreds of thousands of American fans during the last FM tour, and even if just 10% of them buy the new album during the first week of release, she's already on top. It will be a bit of a hollow/tainted victory given the low sales numbers, but a number one album is a number one album- a feat that FM has not achieved in almost 30 years.

She'll probably show up at the grammys. The fashion show thing is a no, so is the appearing on other people's albums.
They are not in first gear at all. Dave is not even done with his movies. I'm sure some surprises are in store. She will probably be on talk show circuit. Hopefully a talk show will embrace her, just like Rosie o'Donnel did. Lucinda Williams first single dropped today on itunes. It's due in March. Kinda strange she is just coming out with it now and Stevie's album is album is two months later.

Well, she needs to show up for the Grammys, the Oscars, the AMAs, the Golden Globes, etc. And she needs to be at NY Fashion Week and be photographed sitting in the front row. She needs to start Tweeting her little beak off and get on Facebook. She needs to totally revamp her website and fight for the stevienicks.com web domain. Her image needs a drastic update.
All this stuff with Dave is fine and dandy, but he is a bit of a mad dreamer; he has lots of brilliant ideas, but nothing truly successful has come of them. Perhaps it's because he's spread too thin to really see things all the way through?

I don't buy albums because I see someone at the oscars or fashion shows. Stevie is not a media whore like Madonna or Cher. Thank god. Give people more credit than that. Madonna and Cher only sell albums because they pay for the best writers and producers. And they are NOT rock stars.
And Stevie needs a mad dreamer and a doer. Please don't ditch Dave. If this album is a success, it will be do to him. I have a sneaky suspician that this album is good, too.

I still can't figure out if her Facebook page is official or not? I know, I know... even if it is somehow connected to Stevie, mama would not be the one doing the arduous sporadic task of sending out a smattering of current relevant information regarding Stevie's new release - but probably a WBR lackey. But nonetheless today the profile picture was updated to Stevie's single "mirror" picture along with a post to "Download Stevie’s new single "Secret Love" available on iTunes now! Look for her new album In Your Dreams available 5/3" along with a link to the Warners website http://wbr.fm/gZP231!
I've also noticed since her appearance on Ellen the number of people that have "liked" Stevie in their profile has steadily gone from 125K to 138,103 as of today. I suspect it is not remotely official, 1st tip off being that they have her music genre listed as indie/rock. But still, right in front of their eyes they have the opportunity to market more aggressively & directly to 138,103 and counting fans! They can post teasers and juicy tidbits like GaGa has been doing about her new release - as well as post her new video and lots of other exciting goodies.

Hey, I'm ignorant about sound technology and all that. But I have heard people go on about bit rate and how important it is to have higher bit rates on downloads.
Well, the iTunes "Secret Love" is 256 kbps, but the free DL from WB is 320 kbps. They sound identical to me, but I was wondering if it makes any difference to anyone.
Oops! Have I killed some potential downloads now?????

I think the Ellen show sparked interest and then all the press about the joint tour which for the most part everyone that reported on the tour mentioned the new album... I'm sure all those AMEX members received some sort of notification about the tour, which I'm sure mentioned the album... the venue presales, those people that get first crack at tickets, season ticket holders etc. that literature likely mentioned the new album... The promoter took out huge full page newspaper ads in pretty much all the markets they are hitting announcing the tour. If those ads didn't mention the album coming out hopefully it made the curious dig a little deeper to find that info out.
That's why partly I believe she's doing this joint tour with another big act...
1. to get the word out.
2. to make some cash to fund the album and all the costs that go along with .
I think that without this joint tour and all the press that THAT received alone, it may have been much more dismal picture. Plus she's probably much more at ease performing in concert then say appearing at the Grammy's or something like that... I don't know.

Her name is Sarah... She's a Warner Community Manager, whatever that means...There's a bunch of them. I think basically she's sitting in a cubicle updating Warner Bros. acts websites with current info. One day she tweeted that she was sick of entering tour dates on some metal bands website... She's the one that was initially playing around with Stevie's facebook page and twitter account... She's real, not sure why they don't do more with it.

Just my two cents here, but personally I can't tell a difference as long as the bitrate exceeds 192 kbps, but 128kbps sounds muddy to my ears. It could also be that I listen through mid-range earbuds, though. :D

Hey Mike!
Unless you are listening to the tracks through a very high-end stereo system (like the kind I only dream I could afford.. ha!) and you have a very sensitive ear, it's doubtful you could notice a difference between the mp3 from WB & the one from iTunes, but iTunes also uses a variable bitrate, which gives you a better sonic quality at a higher compression (smaller space). Even then, the differences are probably so subtle, I can't imagine anyone could tell the difference. Like Fiver said, below a 192 bitrate it becomes easier and easier to hear that the audio file is compressed and there is noticeable loss of audio information.
I always go for lossless files if they are ever available just because I enjoy knowing I haven't lost any of the original audio information... even if I couldn't really hear what was lost anyways (in the very low end or very high end frequencies). Interestingly, I have read that even "audiophiles" who swear they can hear differences between HQ compressed files and lossless ones have often failed tests to determine if they really can. So there likely is a psychological component to the whole thing.
Hope that helps to clarify!

What are you clicking on in the iTunes software to find that chart? I just see one chart for music and it is the top 100. I have to admit, I have iTunes but have not really poked around in there too much. I find the navigation a bit too confusing, but then again, I am sort of old school.

The ones above her are all timeless classic songs by queen, journey, the police, Elton john, guns and roses, ect. Actually, it's not "really good". The Rock genre is not so popular. Besides, look at the Top 10 in the Rock genre on iTunes and you will see old, old songs in the Top 10.
The song has not even broken into the Top 200 Singles (all genres) on iTunes. That's not good. Train's "Hey Soul Sister" still sells more downloads than Secret Love. LOL.
Also, on the main pages of iTunes, they do not even show the single as New & Noteworthy for Feb 8 releases. You have to dig.

What can anyone expect for a track that was given away for free a month ago??? Even if you didn't get it with the album pre-order, you could have a radio-quality MP3 ripped from YouTube no problem. I mean, seriously, who except us lot are BUYING this at all?
The variables and caveats are mind-boggling. So difficult to work out -- much less agree on -- what constitutes 'success' with this or any other music product these days. For an artist like SN, who doesn't need to make money to finance her future, I honestly think 'success' has to be defined as good reviews, good concert audiences, and a Grammy nomination would be the cherry on top.

After reading the reviews on itunes, it's clear that Stevie Nicks has a lot of fanatics and that they are the only one buying the song. I don't feel any of the reviews are helpful to anyone because they are soo biased. And one of the reviews on Amazon.com is a sneaky review by a fanatic that basically is bitching about the song being cut short. Uggg.

Doesn't really matter. Most casual fans & new listeners will make their decision to buy on the 1:30 minute preview - which is ample enough (not to mention nearly 1/2 the song!) to determine if they like it or not.

Agreed. When I search a song, I rarely even go look at the page. I just see it listed and I will preview it and click buy. And then I don't EVER post a review for anything. Secret Love was the exception to this tho, since nobody had commented, I felt I had to be the first :)

Obviously I wish Stevie, the album, and this single all the success in the world but I simply don't love this song. The production is top-notch and the vocal superb but I can't say I really dig the melody of the song itself. I don't dislike it, but I'm far from loving it. That being said I feel positive I will love a lot of other songs on the album, it's just not this one.

I was on the fence with this song when I 1st heard it, like many of her songs that I may of not of liked at 1st has grown on me. The fact that we have a new album that I also was on the fence would ever happen, I'm am pleased as punch this song is listed in the top 10 of anything!!! :wavey:

See I wonder about this song. I like it but don't love it. When Rooms on Fire came out in 1989, I thought it sucked. But it grew on me and now I like it a lot. It was strange and different.
Also, I was so, so about Crystal Bowersox's new song Farmer's Daughter. But then I saw the video and now I can't stop listening to it.

And interestingly enough, the Very Best Of Fleetwood Mac is #1 on iTunes UK Rock chart... and Rumours is #6 on that same chart.
I hope Secret Love's iTunes standing will equal at least some radio play. I've gotta say, I didn't expect it to do this well on iTunes with absolutely zer0 promotion :).

If you go to Stevie's section in the iTunes store, the song comes up as either #1 in popularity or #3 in popularity depending on where you're looking at it from.

David Wilde of Rolling Stone is still saying that his favorite songs from her new album are Italian Summer, For What It's Worth, In Your Dreams and Annabelle Lee. Those are his big picks. Makes you wonder about Secret Love. He doesn't really talk about except to say it's about his sixth favorite song. She may have made a mistake by releasing this first. Some bad reviews are starting to show up on itunes from more casual Stevie fans.

Everyone has their own taste and opinions .You didn't like "Rooms on Fire" when you first heard it .I loved it right away and still think it is one of her best singles. The fact that people that have heard the album don't even mention it as a highlight is a positive IMO.Secret Love is a well produced solid song with one of her best vocals on record in decades. If it is just a so- so track on the album that doesn't even merit mention then we are likely in for something special and unexpected.Besides like you also mentioned, in this day and age she could probably release" Dreams " or "Hotel California" and it still would not be a hit.

True, Dave just tweeted someone and told them that his favorite songs on Stevie's new album are Italian Love and For What it is Worth.

Me too. This is what scares me the most. The demo has never blown me away, yet this recorded version is one of the best songs on her album?! WTF?!

I absolutely love the demo of Annabel Lee. That's why I'm terrified she's gonna destroy it on the album version.

I like the demo of Annabel Lee.I really think only Stevie or Kate Bush could pull this one off though. What it really needs is an atmospheric production ..if it is done right I could easily see it as being a highlight of an album.

It has been changed. According to Stevie, Dave added a middle to it that is fantastic and it got changed. She's excited by it and David Wilde loves it. I think the real winners are going to be Italian Summer and For What it's Worth. Those songs are getting mentioned everywhere. In Your Dreams and Annabelle Lee next. Secret Love, Cheaper than Free and Everybody Loves You next. And then we get to the interesting, atmoshperic stuff hopefully...

So cool! This whole Stevie "movie" thing has me fascinated. I'm not sure what to expect. So the trailer will hopefully help clear some of this up. I would normally expect it to be a documentary style along the lines of "Destiny Rules", but the way Dave keeps throwing around that it's a "movie" with dreamscapes has me hoping its something really special! I guessing the basic premise is its a documentary of the making of IYD along with several special music performances from the record. It's quite interesting that IYD may have the most music videos attached to a solo project of Stevie's ever!
Didn't Dave tweet last week that the video for "Secret Love" would be out around next week as well?? Stevie really needs to get the video for this song out there on the net. I think if its good it might help some people connect with the song a bit more.

I really can't wait to see what the trailer will be like...
Do we think the 'movie'/documentary will be released in like a cd/dvd package kinda thing with In Your Dreams?
Also this was the first time I ever seen the video of Stevie recording 'Goodbye Baby' (above) - (That wasn't on Destiny Rules was it????)
Are there any more of these with other Say You Will songs?

It'll probably be like Lindsey's movie included in the LABPH cd/dvd

NICE!!! It will be very hard for those who want to stay away from spoilers & clips before they have IYD in their hot little hands! It's almost next to impossible in this complete digital age of music. In addition, today many new releases are primed with advance streamings of the entire album weeks before the street dates!
