i'm VERY pleased with it, it's easily her best first single since Rooms On Fire. i really don't care if it sells, or what's the cover gonna look like, i care for nothing, i'm just overjoyed to listen to a new stevie original. in the past few years i honestly didn't believe there will ever be another stevie studio album, so to me, beyond loving it, there's a true i-can't-believe-this-is-really-happening factor.
since the weekend already kicked in here and i don't work tomorrow, i think i'm gonna spend most of the night listening to it again and again. happy days.

I'm really not trying to be a douche here- but I thought posting commercially available stuff here was illegal- unless that link is for a demo, I don't think it should be here.

Ok, now that i've finally figured out what I was missing earlier, mine now says pre-order as well. I'm taking that as a good sign that WB caught the mistake and we'll get the download soon. Cause the album still says In Process.

Actually, someone who did receive the download right away, what does your receipt say?

I love her delivery on the word "salvation", I don't really know why but it's awesome!

Me too, that little bit is my favorite line out of the whole song, where her voice 'drops' at that one point a little bit.

Really? The charge for me is still 12.99.

....and the thumbnail must be the single cover. It pops up on the order page.

I was charged $13.99 and still have not received a link for the download. If I go to the preorder page now, it shows a charge of $12.99 and a not that the free download is being added to your cart.

I emailed WB to see what they are going to do about it.

i agree.
people here are most likely going to go and buy MULTIPLE copies of this new album.
Some people order preordered and couldnt get workable links
i think if it's just shared amongst REAL fans. fine.
if someone goes and posts this ***** on tumblr or another public site
that is something else

I'm sure everyone here will buy the album, but the more people who have access to it, the more likely it is that along the line someone who has no intention of buying it will have access to it. Truth is, the guidelines for the board don't say it's OK to post commercial stuff as long as you are planning on buying the album.

Freaking Amazing!!!!!!! And I haven't been impressed with one single thing thats been leaked so far, especially Everybody Loves You. But this is everything we were promissed. David Wild hit the nail on the the head with "atmosphere" This songs got it.

When Stevie and the girls get together at about 38 seconds for Teeaaars, it sounds like I'm listening to Tom Petty's "In the heat of the sun" from into the great wide open. And the vocal, I can't see how some could call her delivery bad. These are amazing vocals. He voice actually goes up and down.

One thing I was worried about with this album was that Dave would be featured heavily vocally instead of Lori and Sharon, especially after ELY which was very heavy on Daves voice, so that was exciting to not hear Dave at all on Secret Love. No offense to him, from this song I think he's a great producer, I just didn't want his voice all over the album.

Lastly and most importantly, There is NO similarities between this and Everyday. Even when I just heard the short clip and was less impressed it sill didn't make me think Everyday. Everyday was so bland and generic and had a monatonal delivery. This has layers and again atmosphere and is way more upbeat. AND she wrote breaking the streak of every lead single being not written by Stevie since 1985 (not counting ROF)

I'm in the "not impressed" club.

Some of the things I like, some I don't.
Stevie & the girls sound awesome, but IMO some of the production choices..

For example I don't understand why it was chosen to mantain the bass in the same note through all the song, even at the chorus where the hamony changes (that chorus could have been made more beautiful IMO). That makes the song a bit plain to my ears.

I also think I hear an auto-tune/melodyne effect at 1:31.. I don't understand why, no need to do that to Stevie's voice.

In fact I like the intention, the concept of the production (classic stevie sound a bit more modern/interesting), sounds very good (Chris Lord Alge is the best), but some of the choices dont take the song into a classic to me as I always expect from Stevie.

I'm very interested in listening to the whole album though. I have faith that I will like most of the songs and it will be a good follow-up to TISL...

Re. Secret Love eing on youtue.

S**t. Ok, I stand corrected. I was replying to those who questioned us sharing it here on The Ledge. I am/was sure that nobody here would do this. I thought that sharing it between fans on here would keep it just between us. However, since there are of course non-Ledgies who will have pre-ordered and got the single... out it goes.

The only for this not to happen would have been for WB not to do the pre-order. Oh well. It sucks but, sadly, was inevitable.

I don't care. Patience? I only pre-ordered the album to get the single instantly, not to play the waiting game. Since when do large corporation or companies have patience with the little guy? They screwed up royally. I ordered quickly because it was there to order. I don't think it's my fault because I ordered too quickly.

omigod...everyone wants to bitch that this isnt a good single, bad choice for a lead single...whatever. Its an awesome Stevie Nicks song...and i love it! Last thing i wanna hear is Stevie trying to write/sing a song that isnt from the heart...trying to make top 40. am i the only one who wants Stevie to do what Stevie wants to do. I dont want Stevie to be a mega super star...if anything, i want Stevie to do what she wants to do and give her core fans some genuine music. i dont care if shes selling out arenas...id rather see her playing small venues for the people who truly love her.

BS. Stevie has always had a very rock edge. From Gold Dust Woman to Sisters Of The Moon to Straight Back, Edge of 17, I Can't Wait, The Nightmare, No Spoken Word, Freedom, Love Is Like A River, Fall From Grace, Running Through The Garden... these are all very much rock songs. There is an undercurrent of rock in most all her songs. I just don't get record companies trying to project her as a soft rock/adult contemporary artist via her singles... because that's not what she really is. :wavey:

Go Louie ;) She will always be the "reigning queen of rock!" Oh and Everybody Finds Out which is my new fave as of this week has that edge to it. On the other hand i am glad that she isn't type cast and that she is so talented that she can be heavy rock/pop/ac/country/folk/blues/r&b. Understand that some people may not be happy w/ that b/c we all have our own taste preferences but as an artist that is an amazing chameleon quality to have!

It's running around my head non-stop all evening, and I've only listened to it about four times. So catchy!

Yeah, it's definitely more pop/rock than that snippet suggests. Love what they did with the demo, which had potential but was so-so, IMO. A lot of the songs on TISL sound kinda "muddy" compared to this.

Just giving the YouTube version a listen....sounds great! Kind of an odd choice for a lead single, but it's also possible that the market is just being tested, and that an alternate choice might come forth.

Stevie's vocals are great! Truly!

It's running around my head non-stop all evening, and I've only listened to it about four times. So catchy!

Can definitely relate to what you say about it being catchy!!! is it just me or in a weird way does this sound like the most liberating Stevie has ever sounded while still having a newer and more controlled vocal?

A similar arrangement could work really nicely for My Heart :)

Only if she changes the asinine "windows, like the eyes to the soul" lyric.

But back to the positive - I know the cold ending seems abrupt, but I like it. I think it's dramatic.

I'm in love with so many bits and pieces of this song ... especially the double "secretly, secretly died" at the end ... it just rounds it off so perfectly.
Does she sing "my secret loves" (plural) at the very end, actually?
Also, the breathiness on "paying the price" after the salvation verse -- not something we often hear from Stevie, but I love it to bits.

I couldn't have been more shocked myself when I heard the full song. I immediately teared up... it's been such an ugly, ugly decade... and we've had no new Stevie music to escape into. Honestly, this might just be the best single Stevie's released since Rooms On Fire (including the Mac). Even my other half totally digs the song... and Stevie doesn't do much for him. This is the reassurance I think we've all been waiting for for so long :). I can't believe what Dave did with what was a very lackluster demo. I can't wait to hear what everything else sounds like now since this is the safe radio friendly cut :D.

I have catching up to do with this thread- Can someone give cliff notes? IS the song available for full download now, or do you have to wait til February to get the download?
If it's only a short clip right now, I see no reason to pre-order a cd 4 months in advance of release, I think it's ridiculous. I may just do it anyway!
I can't believe I thought she'd sing anything other than freakin 'Stand Back' on Ellen. She must earn a ton of publishing by singing that song on tv every time-
It reminds me of a skit a comedy show did about Irene Cara when 'Fame' was a big hit single:

"Baby look at me, the girl who's on TV
Sings the same song ev-ery time
I'm sure by now you know every rhyme...
It's always The Same!
I'll sing this same song forever"

I think the song is better than Rooms on Fire

I sorta agree as far as radio singles go. Rooms on Fire is another one of Stevie's songs in A minor. It comes off a bit moody and slow buiding. This song leaps off the speakers in a happy friendly way like Talk To Me. TISL singles (POTU & Everyday) were good, but a bit muddy sounding, thats why I always thought they should have released Love Changes off TISL 1st.

My opinion of the song is improving. I still don't see it as a supersingle, but I think it's classy, and some of the things I didn't like at first seem more ok to my ears now.
Maybe I'm getting over the initial shock -the demo vs this version, and I can appreciate this one as a fresh new song.
The subtle arrangements (Dave's I suppose) are growing on me also.
This will be a very interesting album to listen.

It didn't grab me when I first heard it, but the production certainly sounded very modern and crisp. After hearing it a few times, it did start to grow on me. Far superior to "Every Day," and better than "Say You Will" too.

If this first song is any indication, we all owe Dave Stewart a big round of applause. He seems to have really given her a "new voice."

That little guitar riff someone commented on a while ago reminds me of Book of Miracles. Just a little.

Did you guys notice the piano line from the original demo is in there. Right around 2:15 when she sing "We're already paying the price", it's like a little nod to the original demo because for just a moment it's just her voice and that electric piano we're all so familiar with. I wonder if that just happened or it's actually a little nod to those of us who have been fans of the demo for so many years. I made a remix of The B-52's song Legal Tender and while I layered a new drum track over the whole thing I did a breakdown at one part and let the original drums play for a few seconds because to me they were such an iconic part of that song. That's what makes me think that about this moment in Secret Love.

I'm really just buzzing today. This is so awesome. I love this soooo much.

Whats so great about this song is the demo is really "ehh" and now is awseome. When you think about it, it's way more bang for us hard cores bucks for Stevie to improve and officially release her more bland demos then the ones that are already great in demo form. Why do we need her to put All the Beautiful Worlds, Baby Doll, If You Were My Love and Space Needle on an album, when they are basically already perfect to my ears. Would I complain if they end up an album, Hell No but do you get what I'm trying to say.

I now have hope that Anabel Lee will be listenable and maybe even good!!!

ITA with what you're saying
prob why i have such distaste for TISL ... sorry i don't like it
because all of those OLD OLD demos are beautiful they dont need SOMEONE tweaking it to death.

if someone touches ANY of those songs you mentioned, i'll KILL THEM
they're all my faves. add a little something exquisite & prettiest girl and BAM
that could be a whole new record.
she could RE record them and keep them basic for a new record, that will be fine
but re transforming them ... no no no

I can't get over how great she sounds. She really sounds like she's selling the song in a very confident, sexy way. Like she has a smile on her face while she's singing. Maybe the innovations in telephone technology have helped; she's been phoning in her vocals since 1989.

Got the full version with the preorder. I think her vocals are amazing! I rank this song very high in her solo catalogue!! I am beyond thrilled!!! :D

Yeah, this is one of those songs that belongs on her greatest hits or best of. Besides the great production, it's got a lot of meaning, which just adds to it completely. It's kinda deep.

For some reason it reminds me of "Sara" and "If You Ever Did Believe" in that both had sort of a aching-heart feeling in the vocals with a lushness in the melody.

At first I was not pleased with my precious demo being destroyed. But after forcing myself to listen to this version for about 45 times, I now have to say that I like it. Sometimes these songs have to grow on me.
I have had the demo for 29 years. I will consider this new track just another version. In most cases I usually prefer the demo to the finished product.

Just gonna jump in and say I LOVE IT. I can't stop listening to it. Seriously, it's on loop.

BUT.. I wish I could hear the ending! :( Don't want to buy the album on pre-order because I'm in a ridiculous amount of debt and will only be able to buy it once - I want to go out and physically buy my copy.

But I think I might be able to live with this rip for a while ;)

I keep listening to it over and over as well! I just love the changed lyrics on the second verse. "Come on, it's time to go outside...I can't go be in that world alone" and "I am not asking SALVATION from you", etc.

The harmonies are sooooooooooo tight!!!

She really does. She has her voice back. She's singing higher and clearer than she has since the 1980s. She sounded like a 90 year old chain smoker on TISL. Just listen to Everyday and Secret Love back to back... it's shocking. She sounds like she's had a freaking awakening or something on Secret Love... she's found her muse and reason to care again. It's so hard to believe we're hearing a 62 year old rock veteran... she just radiates youthfulness and passion on this track. God, I haven't gushed in so long... it's not freaking natural anymore!

I think the difference is. GaGa's single will be huge and shoot straight to the top of the charts, so everyone will know she has an album out in May, and eagerly anticipate it.

While Stevie will release her single in February... it probably won't do anything on the charts. BUT. People will hear it, and if it keeps getting played on the radio, by the time May rolls around, more people will be aware of the fact that Stevie has a solo album out than they would have if she released both the single and album in March. So it's a slow burner.

While GaGa will shine immediately, Stevie will slowly build up momentum.

Or something like that.

Uh oh... I detect a vague whiff of flop sweat in the air. I'm afraid that WB is at its old shenanigans again, i.e., botching the promotional campaign for a new Stevie/Mac album. "Secret Love" is not appropriate for a lead single. I can usually hear the potential for a Stevie demo in my head- changing the rhythm, changing the instrumentation, etc. This is one song that I simply cannot see turning into a hit single, let alone a lead single. Yes, it's a charming, intimate little ditty. But it's flawed, e.g., "oooh-wee, listen to me..." . It's too low-key. It doesn't say "hey bitches, guess who's back?" Rather, it says "hey, um... did y'all miss me?" And if a vault song is being pushed out first, what does this say about all of the newly-written songs? I'm starting to not feel so good about this...

For some reason, I don't feel this will be her lead single. I see it as someone posted earlier, as a promotional single. I think the point of it is to kinda say "hey, um... did y'all miss me?" to the older Stevie fans out there and slowly take the time to reach people who are more involved with their lives than being on top of the news of the music industry. I agree that it is supposed to be a "slow burner", but I don't think it is meant to act on its own. I think it is just the preparation. Get the song and the word about a new Stevie Nicks album out there, and then sometime around May 3, release a catchier/edgier/more rocking single from Stevie that will say "hey bitches, guess who's back!" That being said, I love it!

Listening to "Secret Love" kinda makes one think she jumped the gun with releasing "Crystal Visions" back in 2007. I can totally hear this song being included in a greatest hits package!

But then again, who are we kidding? We'll probably get another "greatest hits" CD in another 10 years. The Definitive Collection! ;)

I hope y'all are wrong... I totally dig this song, and think it just sparkles out of the speakers. It's upbeat, it's short, it's very accessible, and I think it's a good showcase of who Stevie is and has always been. Even my non-Stevie loving boyfriend is thoroughly impressed with the song.

I hope instead WB is taking a page from Adele's book... she released "Rolling In The Deep" as a single several months before her new album. I think it's built tremendous excitement for Adele's new album, which is slated to be released in 2 weeks. I just hope this song doesn't get swept aside for some middle of the road crap the way Planets essentially was for Everyday. But y'all are probably right... that's exactly what will happen.

I love this song too, but I do think WB has ulterior motives. I think with it being Stevie Nicks, there is no way they can promote the new album on a three month old single. This isn't the only thing up their sleeve either. The single will be released Feb 3... right now the pre-order gives you a free download of the single, but in two and a half weeks, who the hell is going to be enticed by that when they can go buy the single from i-Tunes for $1.29? If I were to bet, I'd say they are going to change the pre-order package before it is released. Perhaps they will simply drop the free single and include a signed litho. Or they may come up with new packages, such as a deluxe edition which contains the documentary and a signed litho, or a vinyl with a signed litho and mp3 downloads the day of the release. The point? To make all of us who rushed out and pre-ordered it today to pre-order it (or a different package of it) again!

Wow!! I'm just amazed. This song even sounds good on a crappy laptop speaker!! Does anyone know the back story to this song? I would be interested in knowing about it.

She has defied the law of degeneration and has pushed out beyond the clamor of the 60ish rock legends to an actual evolution of her voice...fresh, crisp, rippling across the flowing fabric which is her song...her beautiful song.

This is glaring sunlight in an otherwise overcast winter. I just love it...

I think you've hit the nail straight on its head! I was wondering why they've given the single with the pre-order, if you buy the pre-order you're not going to spend out on the single again when it's released on Feb 3rd (unless it's a 3 track one with other album/non album songs). Usually with these pre-orders they give you an album track with it, then release a different track as the single.

I heard the full version olny once and I'm not sure how it even happened but the one we are all hearing now is clearly cut off ..the song picked up again with more guitars and an appropriate fade out..very nice too ..looks like WB still may have a glitch sending out a cut off song.

I think its the album version, maybe it segues in to the next track? If they are calling it a single they really should have mixed it to end correctly!

To my ears, this tune is quite nice, it proves that she still can write a good tune. The only thing it lacks is warmth. I'm totally unhappy with the production. And that ooowee listen to me irritates the heck out of me. She sings great, but her voice sounds cold. For me, that's unforgivable with such a lyric. Good work, Stevie, but Stewart, go away!

I am still not a fan of the production. I think it's very "2000-late," and will sound even more dated in a few years. I wish Stevie would work with someone who took a more stripped-down approach.

HOWEVER, and more importantly, here is what I love:

1. Her voice. Who knew she still had this in her? She reaches higher notes without sounding shrill. She's forceful sometimes, feathery-soft at others. The vibrato is rich and warm. And I love the crack in her voice on the first "leaving you here..."

2. This couplet:

I am not asking for salvation from you
I'm just asking to be safe for a while.

That's wonderful writing. It's sad, it's smart, and it's succinct.

So I quibble with the production, but all in all I'm excited.

The more I listen... the more goosebumps I get. I am appreciating Stevie's subtle vocal nuances. Going from loud to soft, without sounding harsh at all. If her vocals are this controlled and emotive on the rest of "In Your Dreams", this will be her best record vocally since RAL. From OSOTM on, I have found her vocals to sound very strident and flat, with a few exceptions. Also this song sounds like classic mid 80's Stevie to me (with a fresh updated crispness) and doesn't sound out of place alongside Stand Back, If Anyone Falls, Talk To Me & I Can't Wait. This is the Stevie I think the world wants to hear.

It's "saved". The word refers to the term "salvation" from the previous line. I think it's a very seductive line and I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't Dave's influence. Remember Missionary Man? His stuff always had a sexually spiritual side to it. Salvation and being saved are both classically religious terms but to use them in the context of being "saved" by being held in the arms of someone you love, even for a little while, is very provocative and really sweet.

Having listened to this song now a half dozen times, I can honestly say that it's a "solid" song, not necessarily a "great" song. Her vocals are ok, but like so many of Stevie's songs, I often feel her vocals are much too loud in the mix compared to the music levels.

I don't hear top 40 material here folks, sorry. I think the excitement of having new Stevie music after so many years of nothingness has maybe clouded the judgement of some of you here. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice song - but listening to it critically, without bias, it's really just average in my opinion. Looking forward to hearing the rest of the CD though. Really hoping the rumours about 'China Doll' being on there are true.

It is likely that Secret Love is the demo with the "child's voice" that was referenced by Stevie last year so China Doll is pretty much out IMO.I agree with those who classify Secret Love as a promo single..i'm still betting on the title track as the first single proper. It would have to be an uttter fluke for Stevie to ever see the top 40 Billboard pop singles chart again no matter how good the song I'm sad to say.

How could Dave have influenced something she wrote before she even knew him??

Come on it’s time to go outside

I am still not a fan of the production. I think it's very "2000-late," and will sound even more dated in a few years.

I will totally give you this. The production will date fairly quickly. But you can say that about all of Stevie's albums. They're all highly produced, and implement the most ripe style of production at the time they were recorded. Outside of Fleetwood Mac, Stevie doesn't seem interested in pared down, simple, or straightforward production styles though. I think she actually likes playing with what's hot in the world of sound at the moment, because Lindsey always has his own motives of what he thinks FM should sound like.

It took me a long time to come to this assumption, but I think Rock A Little is one of Stevie's best albums... and it's EASILY her most dated and overproduced work. TISL dated pretty quickly, but I'd argue it's still a very good album as well. I think it's pretty cool Stevie's in her 60s, and has no qualms going for this very youthful production style we hear on Secret Love. Good for her!

I disagree with you. I love the Wild Heart but it's her most dated work to me. The song sounds a lot like 10CC "I'm not in love", especially the ending and that song did not date fairly quickly. I think it was produced this way because of her voice. Anyway, I'm happy.

The production is boring. The orchestration is dull. It sounds like an Idol contestant's first single. But: The lyrics are wise. And her voice exudes experience.

I don't know why you keep saying this. To me there is nothing about TISL that screams "this is so 2001 ." Agreed. To my ears the production on TISL sounds just as contemporary today as it did when it was released. I feel sometimes people may confuse their opinion that TISL was a bit over-produced with it sounding dated as mutually exclusive. However If you compare TISL with most songs/albums on top 40 today, It sounds like a stripped down acoustic outing;)

And "Rock A Little" is the MOST dated of all. I think TISL sounds great. It would've sounded better and more cohesive with only one producer, but all in all it's a great album, one of her best I would say.

True - but we don't know how long this original poem/song was even if it wasn't in the original demo. Dave's influence may have been to tell her to add something or to look at what she had written before and say use that or she could have told him she couldn't figure out where to place it. I'm sure he did advise with structuring, etc.

The thing that bothers me most about the song is this:

But you need some rest
My darling, it's best
"But we've already passed it," I cried
Ooh, wee, listen to me
My secret love secretly dies

******
Passed what? A test? Well, it seems obvious that word is missing throughout the whole song. Also, would it have made more sense to say something like:

But, you say "This test
My darling is best"
"But, we've already passed it. I've tried."
"Ooh wee listen to me", my secret love secretly cried

Eh. It's Stevie, I'll get over it. I still think it sounds great. :)

I actually really like the production of this song. The end (right before the drop out on the "single" version) reminds me a bit of early U2.

And little things make me smile, like the last half of the 2nd verse when she starts with "I am not asking salvation..." and in the background you hear an acoustic guitar strumming one chord over and over again, kind of helps build up the song a bit and makes it hopeful (I don't know anyway else to describe it, but that's just what I feel when I hear it).

Also the electric piano part during "..still we're already paying the price..." that hearkens back to the original demo.

It's definitely not boring to me. :)

Guys... dated does not have to mean BAD. It just means it's a moment in time... a snapshot, if you will. And I'm sorry, you can't have an album that's progressive that doesn't date itself. By the virtue of something being progressive, that means it's different than what came before it. Progressive in 2001 is not going to sound progressive in 2011. Regarding not being able to think of one song that sounds like it couldn't have been released today: Love Changes. Trust, I love TISL. At the time, I thought it was the best album she'd recorded since Bella Donna. I still think it's great, and not nearly as dated sounding as the Dance, for instance. My biggest beef with the album is the production, and especially the mixing, is soupy. But I truly adore the album. And for the billionth time, I adore Stevie too. ;)

I, too, hear strains of U2 in the production, which helps give it that modern feel. As for being dated, many, many popular albums sound dated. Doesn't ruin the appeal for me.

As for her being over-produced, that's certainly not the case on this single. Her voice is sharp and clear. You certainly can hear feeling in the notes. Her voice is distinct but has never been considered the best ever. Her strength is how she uses her voice to blend with the production. I would never classify anything from Fleetwood Mac as minimalist. If anything, Say You Will was way over-produced and murky in many of the areas. Lindsey has done far better, as has Dave here with "Secret Love."

I love the demo so much. I have often said that Stevie goes into the studio and spends thousands of dollars to destroy her songs. In most cases the demo blows away the album versions.

I love the demo song No Light and John Shanks did a wonderful job producing that jem and turning it into Planets Of The Universe.

Secret Love was one of about 10 songs that came with the very first demo tape I ever aquired back in 1982. It was titled Almanac.

Unlike most of you I do like the snippet for Everybody Loves You. I look forward to songs of Stevie that I've never heard the demos of. I'm already dreading what she might have done to Annabel Lee.

Very true! Thus why most of the Stevie collection I have on my iPod consists of demos. They're so much more raw and emotive than the over produced end products. I love Stevie's work to bits, but more so for her writing style and her demos than ever her released work. If you have to keep playing a song over and over to get it right on an album, it loses its original soul.

I most cases, I've loved other songs on Stevie's CD than the lead single. I really hated "Every Day" but other songs on TISL were very good. "Talk to Me" was very contrived (though sung like hell) on an album that contained many other gems.

"Secret Love" I actually quite like. So it only raises my expectations as to what the entire CD will sound like! One of the "news" reports I read said "In Your Dreams" would consist of 11 tunes, so all 14 produced will probably not make the final cut.

Well remember Stevie had recorded 14 songs for her album and that at a later stage, she decided to also include "Cheaper Than Free", which was originally only slated for Dave's album. Therefore, that means there have been at least 15 songs recorded and considered for inclusion. If the tracklisting is to be cut down to just 11 songs, let's hope she has second thoughts about including "Cheaper Than Free" as it will simply be duplication at the expense of potentially superior songs.
I realise Dave has mentioned that the excess tracks will come out one way or another (bonus deluxe and additional download opportunities etc.) but I would just love Stevie's album to be comprised of the strongest material possible (although I realise this is at the end of the day entirely subjective).

When did that happen. The 14 songs included Cheaper than Free and that song is a single they are filming a video. It won't be kicked. Infact, from what I heard, it's a really strong song. I would agree that the production on TISL does not sound dated and that's largely because most of the tracks don't have a melody or beat. It's more just continuous with swells, rather than beats.

That's what took me longer to get into it, but once I did I took a pretty deep plunge. It's more about emotion than hummability. I think the less hooky a song is, the harder it is to pin it to a particular era.

I was thinking about Secret Love last night and its mood makes me think of Love Changes, although I think Secret Love is a better song. The way something momentous just fades away is heartbreaking in itself, the quietness of it.

That's what got me about "Love Changes". The sudden emptiness, that washes over you without war or roar. There's no big collision, just a break down on the side of the road.

When there's a traumatic event, a big fight, passionate outbursts, they are cleansing in a way. Cathartic. But when great love has a softer, lingering death and the ending comes amid other trivial matters, the every day, anti-climatic conclusion of it is sad. Secret Love is sing-songy and juvenile on one hand, but I think the music and Stevie's voice do capture the pain of what "secretly died" very nicely.
