Mmm...I love a good french dip. That au jus--despite being all sodium--is great for dipping french fries in, as well!
Right now, I'm preparing a smoothie with banana, granny smith apple, wild blueberries, dark cherries, peach, OJ & soy milk.

Oh, uh...I just woke up/rode to work so I'm having my little can of pineapple juice and a half cup of coffee.
I found this bag veggie/chicken I like a lot, guys (I'm having it for lunch). I usually don't like bag foods, or whatever, but.
It's Contessa brand, and the thing is, it has this really good chinese sauce that comes with it, teriyaki or...I'm not sure.
It has a lot of different kinds of vegetables in it, which is unusual. I mix the bag of it with a bag of frozen broccoli florets (to make it even more veggiebroccolicious) then stir fry.
It's the sauce that makes it.
Also, I don't like rice or pasta much, and those bag meal things usually come with rice or pasta. Which is double good because rice/pasta is just extra carbs with little to no nutritional value.
The chicken breast in it is good, too.
Yummy!

Ever thought of substituting Hummus for mayo? It's good, if you like hummus. I hate dry sandwiches. I also really like mayo. So when I skip mayo, I have to have something. Often I use guac, but you already had 'cado on your 'wich.

Oooh...no I've actually never considered hummus as a moisturizer on a sandwich!! But I'm so going to try that..it sounds good!
Lately I have been putting on tomatoes for the moisture, because I also hate dry sandwiches...but I'm gonna try the hummus thing.

That's odd.
Um, I found the taste of hummus is pretty overpowering, so i just put a little.
Another thing that is good is, if I toast the bread, I brush a little coconut (or olive) oil and sprinkle a smidge of rosemary on one side. If I have pepperoncini, I cut some up and sprinkle a bit on there, too.
I love making sandwiches.

That is another of it's great properties is that it doesn't go bad; it has antibacterial properties in your body, as well. How is it prepared? Does it say "cold pressed" or "expeller pressed"? That is kind of important. It should melt at room temp. If room temp is like...75? Just put it on your stove for a sec, it'll be fine. I keep mine in one of those bottles that has the skinny nozzle to spread oil.
You know what is weird? I was going to buy more at safeway today, but they don't have it. At all. (I had a safeway coupon, get 50 dollars worth of food for 40 dollars.)
So, I'll get it next week.

ACK!!! I just took it out of the cupboard & it's liquified! Which is normal, according to you, but still freaked me out.

You'll like it, it's totally flavorless. I put it on my popcorn. I don't like the flavor of olive oil. I always had to get the olive oil that doesn't taste, but it still did, a little.

I sure wouldn't mind losing 25-30! Although I've all but given up. My body INSISTS on that extra 25. I can lose it, but NOT keep it off. Not without constant starving, and constant exercise. I like to eat, and I like to drink. IMO, life's too short. I'll just carry this 25 around with me. It keeps me company!
Carrots, to me, just taste like NOTHING. The only way I can eat them, is when there's veggie dip involved(thus, probably negating any caloric savings).

That sounds delish. I like lots of veggies on my sammiches, too. And I like salsa a lot. Fresh salsa.
I just had a double ciabatta bacon cheeseburger. :distress: My cats shared the beef with me, and I didn't quite finish it. But, I only had that because I drank last night, and haven't eaten all day. Plus, I was back down to 145 lbs. this morning, so, you know....

Veggies....me too! Subway's got nuttin' on me! I usually have to eat it with a towel, because the tomatoes are dripping everywhere. I like to go pick a warm one, then straight to the sandwich with it! Tomatoes are my REASON for gardening.
Salsa. Fresh is the only way. I "can" about 25 quarts of it every year, but it still isn't NEARLY as good as it is fresh. But, in the winter, whatcha gonna do?

Subway sandwiches are eww, pale shadows of sandwiches I make. But something about their bread tastes weird.
You just can't beat a homegrown tomato for flavor. It's one of those simple things that is actually an exceptionally delicious experience.

I had a reduced fat hot dog, the kosher ones, I can't remember the name right now. Plus Bush's onion baked beans. Then cherries for desert and a couple of Newman's Own organic cookies, the ones that are like Oreos only better.
I had coconut oil in my hand at the grocery store today, Amber, and realized I had no idea what I would do with it so I put it back. What do you do with it? Gah, I just realized I could've scrambled my eggs in it. How do you use it?

I use it for whatever I stir fry, I use it instead of butter on popcorn. I just use it like everyone uses oil. Also, when I get tortillas and ground boca for burritos, I use a little on the boca when I cook it, and then I crisp fry the tortilla in a little of it.
You can also just take 2 tablespoons a day. In the coconut diet cook book, they had a lot of smoothie recipes, you just put a tablespoon in or whatever. I don't make many smoothies so that's not my thing. You can fry or scramble eggs in it.
It doesn't taste, so, whatever you normally cook with oil, and some things you don't normally (smoothies).
:wavey:
I cook a lot of things in a pan on my stove, so that is pretty easy for me. Sometimes I don't use it every day, though, no big. It doesn't go bad like Olive Oil.

It's going ok, although it was difficult to eat healthfully on the roadtrip, esp. because my mom has become a borderline fast food junkie. also nearly impossible to get any exercise, except when we were at the grand canyon. when i'm being really good, though, i notice a marked difference in my mood, and my desire/cravings for unhealthy food have decreased greatly. I couldn't even finish a small ice cream cone tonight because it just seemed too sweet and too much. I'll have to go find that contessa stuff because it sounds really good.

I've been noticing that, too, about reduced cravings. I was like..."I want to eat veggies and apples!" All last week I didn't have any food except apples, those veggies I just said, and popcorn with coconut oil. Except that one day when my boss bought me a burrito, which is rice, beans, chicken, guac. Not exactly unhealthy.
But I had so much energy, I couldn't go to sleep, and I totally felt good, mentally. And I lost weight.
I ate crapfully finally today, and it isn't cool. I feel lethargic, I took a nap earlier. Back to veggietown for me. But the Contessa is kind of expensive - when I first bought it it was on sale for $5/bag, but it went back up to $8 this week. :( I bought one bag anyway, but I was going to get two.

Oh, that is good! Insomnia sucks. I've heard yoga helps with insomnia, too, but it also gives me more energy. But calm energy.

That burrito is good. A bunch of days a week - my boss does a lot of delivery errands - he says "okay, I'll be back" and I'm always all "you're going to get burritos, right?" and basically try to mention burrito as much as possible. He gets a big one and we each have half. The best part is, next to the actual burrito, is that he buys it. I would say average once every two weeks, sometimes more. :woohoo: It's like, 6 dollars.
Edit - that coconut site is kind of expensive because it's really high quality. You can find cheaper, I'm sure.

There are different types of tofu, but the only real difference (at least that I've noticed) between them is the texture. Some are really soft and gooey while others are more firm. I've never actually cooked with it myself (I hate cooking in general) so I can't really offer any advice on it's uses. But besides being used in Asian dishes, I've often seen cubes of it offered at salad bars and I like to top my green salads with it.
I'm sure our resident health food nut, amber, may have some suggestions for actual recipes.

I have finally achieved Sandwich, and the ecstasy is even greater than I thought it would be.
Oh, crab salad on fresh baked sourdough, Sandwich of my dreams, thank you for fulfilling my fantasy. Lays, as always a faithful and delicious - shall I say perfect? - sandwich side.
It was a long five days, but the pain has been worth it just for these few moments. And the moments again when I have the other half for Dinner.
Genova's Italian Delicatessen - I love you most of all. And thank you for allowing me to discover your lower-than-the-store brie prices. I bought a little block of heaven for three dollars.

yes. sandwiches are known to be status seekers with delusions of grandeur, mostly because they imagine the food world revolves around them. (must have their Sun in Leo!!) but dont tell them. they couldnt handle the truth. For in truth, a sandwich is only a hodgepodge of components, it cant stand alone as a true LEADER should. It has to be constructed (built, if you will) of various disparate parts, most of which do NOT get along.
Oh and btw, I'm eating sunflower seeds and penny candy. For dinner.

All the world loves McDonalds and Coca Cola. The whole world acknowledges the superiority of Taco Bell. And Jack in the Box. (thank you Purina!) The world LOVES Kentucky Fried chicken, and Pizza Hut. (not to mention Burger King)
if Sandwich appears anywhere, it is as a supporting member. AS IT SHOULD. Sandwich knows its place is one of cooperation..........Sandwich wishes AMber would get her Sun in some OTHER sign as Leo is too egotistical for Sandwich to coexist with its neighbors.

Sandwich has two choices: be eaten or get stale. neither of which is very conducive to world domination. Thus Sandwich's days are numbered no matter how patient it is. And Sanwich's patron saint peeked, thus the ignore feature is of no consequence. Alas. Eventually the lowly TWINKIE will triumph by virtue of its scientifically validated superior shelf life.
Sandwich wishes it were a twinkie.

But speaking of sandwiches (you all had me rolling w/ that banter) - I had one of my cravings satisfied earlier this week - the chicken salad sandwich from Central Market. NO! It doesn't. It tastes like sour expired gatorade or something. It's in a skinny red can, so sickeningly sweet/sour. I LOVE to cook. AND I'm quite good at it if I may say so myself. My specialty is indian curries. Built up from the bottom from fresh ingredients and those wonderful palets of spices, with whom I can perform magic.

Thank God Theresa reminded me that I haven't posted about food yet today.
I had a Michelina's Lean Gourmet frozen meal for lunch- beef pepper steak & rice. It f*cking sucked. I know, I know, frozen dinners are bad. I was in a hurry & had nothing else to take to lunch. I am still not full (I swear there was about 3/4 cup of food total) and not satisfied. Dammit.
Well, at least I had some fruit, yogurt & nuts earlier. May have to pop some popcorn in a bit. Dinner tonight - don't know. I have gotten really lazy about planning meanls & it's taking its toll. Spagetti & meatballs maybe...

A Hoodsie is a little plastic cup of ice cream. I think I had a generic one, not the Hood kind. It had psuedo strawberry sauce on the sides and bottom. The pic above is a hoodie.

I just had a big bowl of ice cream my favorite way: with hot fudge sauce & powdered sugar sprinkled all over it.
I'm trying to put on the pounds in a major way for the next Lindsey Buckingham rock tour.

Oh, thanks for clearing that up  I was thinking that a hoodie would be rather dry ,yet quite filling.

^ I love you for reviving the food thread.
Today I've had: raisin bran with a splash of 1%, yogurt, walnuts, a fruit cup & a few slices of turkey & ham. Mini peppermint patty to take care of the sweets craving. Tonight will be chicken breast (I found a kickass recipe for grilled BBQ Pepper Jack chicken) and a baked potato & some broccoli.
Tomorrow I'm going to the fair - I will try to control myself. This one place always has these awesome pita wraps - a tad better for me than anything fried. Fried dough is a given though, so I will force my ass onto the elliptical to try & combat it.

yumm, that chicken recipe sounds great. and i love broccoli. i still have, uhhh ... 3 meals ahead of me, since i'm eating 5 300-calorie meals a day. for breakfast i had vanilla granola stuff with almond slices in it with 1%. then i went to the gym and mostly did weights, but i also did 20 min on the elliptical. then i had aforementioned soft taco, and i just had a spoonful of PB and now i'm eating a bowl of spinach with coconut oil & red wine vinegar dressing. i also sprinkled some oregano, garlic, & basil on it for taste. tonight i'll probably have an apple & some almonds & half a bag of broccoli & cauliflower, then split a ham sandwich between two meals.
good luck at the fair. don't be too hard on yourself about the fried ****, because it's not like you go to the fair every day, or even every month.

"Paula, you've already had french fries, baby buttered spuds, fried dough, cotton candy, pizza, a few beers, a fried bologna sandwich, Italian sausage with peppers & onions, a wine slush, and a candied apple. Do you really need to eat that pita wrap?"
"Yes. Carrie said I could, since I don't go to the fair that much." :p
