So I'm not here all weekend & the food thread practically dies. :o Hmmmmm.......
OK, I didn't do too badly at the fair. :D Here's the rundown:
Panini (how weird is that, David?! OK, not that weird I guess.) It was a veggie one - roasted red pepper, spinach, portabello mushroom & mozzarella cheese. I've had them before, and they can be greasy, but this one was great.
Fresh cut French fries with vinegar, salt & ketchup (shared with friends.)
Baby buttered spuds (tiny white taters drowned in butter. So bad, yet so good.)
Philly cheese steak (I wanted the chicken Philly, but they were out of chicken - how do you run out of chicken?) it was OK.
Fried dough brushed with butter & sprinkled with powdered sugar on the way out. Fantastic!
Not too bad for 7 hours, but I did end up sick to my stomach later.
Today has been raisin bran, a peach and some colby jack cheese.

What kind of fast food? Last nite for dinner I had a cheeseburger I made at home because I have so much food left over from my cookout. I had a no show and none of my maybes showed up. But the good news is I have enough for another cookout!
Sometimes you just gotta satisfy those cravings. Eating it once every few mos is not bad at all.
I had Kashi cereal with soy milk for breakfast and a salad for lunch. I am having a big sugar craving though which I will likely indulge.

I'm still obsessed with making my own shrimp Pad Thai. Last nite's batch was darn good, I think I finally found the perfect sauce, Central Market's Satay sauce. I just bought bean sprouts last Thursday and they were already too yucky to use last night. If I'd had fresh ones, it would have been perfect.

you're goddamn right it is! i've never tried the mix stuff before. maybe one of these days i will. usually i either make my own or i buy a container of it from the grocery store.
Homemade is the best. You really need a food processor though otherwise it is just way too much work. Besides the avocado my recipe calls for lemon juice, garlic, tomato, onion, salt and pepper, and a jalapeno. It's pretty simple for something so good. Mmmm...

I just ate a "big salad" (like Elaine on Seinfeld). I made a Greek salad, with black olives, feta cheese, purple onions and added artificial lobster meat. With bacon dressing that you'd normally use on a spinach salad. It was yummy, and I'm full.
Mmm, I just had some delicious sushi for dinner, tuna and salmon sashimi and a kamachi roll. Deeeee-lish!

I love big salads. There isn't anything I like more than big salads. That bacon with the feta sounds really strong. Probably both were in smaller amounts.
Black olives are one of my favorite foods.
Livia wins the "food I want to eat" prize for today.
I am making a corn tortilla, crispy, fried in coconut oil (and laid on paper towels after to absorb) with Salsa from the mexi place, romaine lettuce, cheese, and a mix of ground turkey and ground boca, flavored with green onions.
That's all I have to fix, so I've also been making homeade tortilla chips, fried in coconut oil, and they are really good. I mean, they just taste like mexi chips. they take like five minutes to cook. That's your tip of the day, kids.
Not as nutritious as I'd like (I would love some tomatoes and guac to go on them, maybe a nice side salad, some fish...) but so very cheap, and pretty tasty. You're f*cked if your salsa runs out, though, unless you have taco bell packets laying around. I can't eat burritos that don't have salsa, and tomatoes too. One or the other.
I just realized if I smidged a few drops of Caesar dressing on my burrito, it would be even mo better. Plus, I'm almost out of salsa.
Let's not forget, a bunch of the reason we work is to eat. To eat the best we can to make us feel strong. We work for shelter, and other things. But we always need food. So take some time to use your money for something that will help you thrive. That is the whole point of money, right?

Do corn kitties have guilt in their eyes, or does the glow make it indiscernable? Hmm, could make it hard to tell.

Aw, see, you're eating something all healthy. This is not making my choice easier.
Whatcha do, is you take your air-popped popcorn, add some sea salt and some deeeeelicious melty butter..but before adding the butter, you mix in about a teaspoon (maybe a little more for some added indulgence) of white truffle oil. Dear God, it is absolutely exquisite and had taken popcorn to a whole new level of fabulousness. Trust me, you will never be the same again.

Oh, I've never had truffle oil, but the other stuff is what I do anyway. I usually use coconut oil instead of butter, but not always.
Hmm, I'm totally going to try that. Sometimes I eat a lot of popcorn. It sounds like it will probably be good. I just got an air popper.
Do I really need to be even more addicted to popcorn? It's so cheap, too. *shakes fist at delicious truffle oil snack!*
I also like to sprinkle (and I mean sprinkle/light spray, very light, because you can't eat soggy popcorn) pepperoncini juice on my popcorn.
Damn, I totally want to try that now! And I can't believe I've never had truffle oil.
Now I'm having Rooibos Vanilla Red Tea. Relaxing. Yet delicious.

Truffle oil has a distinct aroma and flavour all its own, very recognizable once you've had it. It's pretty expensive, but a little goes a long way and can last you quite awhile so a small bottle is all you need. Other than the heavenly popcorn treat, it's magnificent on scallops and risotto and a great addition to cheese fondue. You see where I'm going with this? Truffle oil is totally made for rich foods and a perfect indulgence. Seriously buy yourself a wee bottle and you'll be the happiest lass in the land.:)

Feta cheese rocks. I used to really hate it, but now I rarely eat a salad without it. Fresh cukes & tomatoes with a dash of S&P topped with feta, vinegar & a splash of oil is the best.
We had a goodbye brunch for one of my coworkers. I was able to limit myself to 1/2 bagel with a tiny bit of cream cheese & a bunch of fresh fruit. Oh, and a cup of French vanilla tea.

Wow! That is super! Okay, maybe I just think that b/c it is something I would make, because I'm hella poor and usually just have random ingredients in the house, and then just make weird stuff. Dopple.
But, it was nutritious, for sure. :blob2:
Spinach is great b/c it has a lot of iron (among other great properties) and can significantly reduce your cravings for red meat. The main nutrition thing of red meat is iron, and protein.

Of course. :D I love that you love food as much as me. It was 1/2 serving of shredded "Mexican" (which I think is cheddar & Monterey Jack...) And I drink OJ fortified with calcium NO pulp. The Eng. muffin, btw, has 8G of fiber. I probably eat 1 or 2 a month. One brand (Lean Cuisine maybe?) doesn't use preservatives, so I usually buy those. Obvioulsy not the best choice, but great if you're in a hurry. I usually fortify with some steamed veggies on the side so I'm not hungry again in an hour.
Dee - the points thing is overwhelming at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's easy. And after a while, you remember how many points are in certain foods so you won't have to keep looking everything up. I actually think it's kinda fun balancing my meals out. Yeah, I'm a loser. Anyway, I've been following it pretty strictly for a week (with one "free" day - I didn't go crazy, but I didn't count the beers I drank) and I've lost about 3 pounds so far. I almost wept when I stepped on the scale at my first meeting - I'm not far from where Stevie was at her heaviest (or at least what she claims her heaviest weight was).
But I feel good that I'm finally doing something about it - and putting money behind it really forces me to follow through and do this thing.
I'm just basically re-learning how to eat/ how MUCH to eat etc - so far so good - though I was hungry ALL DAY yesterday....and had to go to the bathroom every 2 seconds...
I'm going slow though - this week diet - next week I'll add the exercise :D

^ Oh, yeah, you'll feel like you're starving for the first few days. No joke - keep busy & find somethig else to do so you don't keep saying "damn, I'm so hungry!" You said you did WW before, right? Then you know it gets easier, you don't feel as hungry after a few weeks. God bless the "zero" foods (tomatoes, cukes, mushrooms, pickles...) If I really need something to hold me over, a nice crisp dill pickle does the trick.
The great thing is that after I get used to eating that way for a while (healthier foods, smaller portions) eating junk food (or too much of anything) literally makes me feel ill. It's gradual, but after a while it just becomes natural & I don't have to pay such close ateantion to it - it becomes second nature. Just takes a while to get into the habit initally.
I've been exercising like crazy too. 30-40 minutes of cardio 5 days a week - I'm alternating brisk walks with the dog with the elliptical, and 2 days a week I'm doing light weights/stregth trainging exercises too. In a couple weeks I start a yoga class one morning a week too.

Yes, I did WW before - but it's been about 10 years - so everythings different  I like this points thing better though - and keeping track of veggies, oils/fats and such is really helpful.
Yeah - the "free foods" i predict will be a lifesavers -as will those 35 weekly flex points. I know things will get easier - and actually this initial start hasn't been awful - I'm not craving junk food like I thought I would - so I've really excited and hopeful...

cardio's great, but i really think that doing weights is key, too. the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn just sitting on your ass. building muscle will also help keep your metabolism up. i've also noticed that doing weights has really improved my performance with cardio exercise, which makes it more enjoyable imo. if you don't like doing weight machines, you can do interval training on one of the cardio machines and it'll help build muscle, too. i've been doing weights m/w/f and cardio t/th/s with a free day on sundays, and it's been working out great.

Well since I love it - and since the one I buy at the store (which is delicious) is only 1 point per serving..I'm finding several uses for it.
My favorite so far is a substitute for salad dressing. I'm not big on salad dressing anyway and of course the one I do love is 3984738 points - so I tried Guac on a spinach/romaine salad...and it's WONDERFUL. SO good -a nd so refreshing.
I've also been putting it in my sandwhiches, but the bread I found that it low in points is also horrid - so even the Guac isn't helping...
Lets see - I dip my carrots in it....but mostly I've been doing the salad thing :D

I love the guac. I make black bean burritos with low fat sour cream, fat-free tortillas, low fat shredded Mexican cheese blend, black olives, and Cholula sauce (WAY better than Tabasco).
Guac is good on a turkey sammich too, instead of mayo. If I make a turkey/ham omelette, I'll add some guac on top.
If I do eat it w/ chips, I like to add some Rotel to it. Gives it a little kick!

Really? Isn't 1 slice of regular bread like 2 points, but 2 slices of light/high fiber only 1? I don't eat that much bread anymore anyway, I've become a huge fan of those low carb wraps. Light bread never toasts well either, so I usually splurge & eat regular if I make toast.

I don't know - I need to point check the regularl bread I used to get. If it's 2 points per slice then forget it! That's craziness! Guess I'll just have to get used to the light breads - I only eat bread maybe once a day when I have a sandwhich...

I've tried to eat something for breakfast that won't make me sick, but everything I try ends up being a bad choice because it has too much sugar. I need something quick and on the go. any suggestions?

I just ate oatmeal. I'm not usually a breakfast eater, but lately I've just been way too hungry by the time lunch comes around - so I've started bring those variety pack packages of oatmeal. It's quick, 2 packs, a bit of water, heat it in the micro for a minute and just add milk.

I don't know - I need to point check the regularl bread I used to get. If it's 2 points per slice then forget it! That's craziness! Guess I'll just have to get used to the light breads - I only eat bread maybe once a day when I have a sandwhich...
Either way I've entered the extremely bitter phase where I curse all those who can eat crap and not get fat. I don't care if they're still not healthy -I want those genes!!!
Have y'all tried Nature's Own bread? They have several varieties, most are low sugar, low calorie, etc.

They took a little getting used to - they're thinner and a bit more "grainy" than others. But I was already eating a fat-free light variety - and the WW yogurt isn't that far off. I don't eat it that often - when I do it's not bad.

No I didn't - because I (stupidly) went to Wal-Mart and usually I will NOT buy produce there - now I remember why - anyway they didn't have green onions. I hope to make it this weekend :)
And - yeah Wal-Mart produce is awful - it's usually bad and/or minutes from going bad. Maybe that's just the case in the places I've lived - but ew. I almost always go elsewhere for produce :D

yippee! good job, j. that's awesome. for me, it's the opposite - the middle is where my weight loss is most obvious, esp. my boobs. they are seriously a cup smaller now. i'm really happy about that, though. i hate having big boobs.
oh hey, you were asking about breakfast food somewhere. i meant to reply, but now i don't know where it was. probably in this thread, but whatev. i can't handle really sweet food in the morning either, and the best cereal i've found so far is kashi go lean - the warm kind. it's called simply vanilla or something ... anyway, it's not very sweet at all, but it's got a hint of vanilla, which i really like. it's really good & filling & only 150 calories & only takes 90 seconds to heat up in the microwave. i stir a T of flax meal into mine before adding water.

That is so sweet, having a birthday dinner for your brother. And I hate Applebees. Really. I've been there 3 times in my life & it was subpar every time. Maybe I'm overcooking it? It just always tastes so gross - and then the consistency is all weird. I can't handle it...I'm exploring ways to cook it.
I've previously just been throwing it in the microwave w/ a bit of water.
After last night I'm thinking zuchs are my new favorite veggie.

I have a rice cooker/veggie steamer someone bought me years ago that I like to use. I like my broccoli tender, but not mushy. And it must still be a pretty bright green - if it's dark or dull, it's overcooked, IMO. I won't eat it if it's too hard though.

Most granola bars I've seen are pretty high in carbs & sugar, not much protein though. Not sure about this particular brand - they're pretty popular with some "healthy" people I know, so perhaps they're better? Maybe they throw in some vitamins? What's the label say?
