Silly. Don't you think people here would've seen the little birthday reminder? ;)
what birthday reminder? I found that calendar once, with everyone's birthday, but now I don't know where it is.

On the ledge index page, if you scroll all the way down, it has a little box that says "Today's Birthdays."

Amber, I <3 you. That's where I was all day. At my sister's tournament. She's in 14U now, but they played in a 16U tournament (Nationals is next week ~ gotta prepare for those presure-cookers. ;) ). To no one's suprise, they destroyed pretty much all of the 16U teams. ;)

Yeah, she's a really good pitcher. A lot of times coaches will get mad when they find out that their team just got their asses handed to them by a bunch of 8th graders and a 7th grader.

I'm sure you were the better shortstop. ;)

That's awesome, pitching is really hard. Do you guys know her speed?

mmmm, we were about equal. She was older, though. She was really good, and pitching at, like, 70 mph when she was 12... I was a bit quicker, but she had a bit better arm. ;)

She throws about 55 mph I think. She's got average/above average speed for her age I guess.

Was this girl you played with named Lisa Fernandez by any chance? 70 is hard to throw for college girls, much less a 12 year old.

This is my new baby. I got her when she was about 10 days old. She could barely walk, eyes just opened, and her ears was just starting to pop up. I'm introducing her to the outdoors now a little at a time. But I worry about her to much. We have had alot of laughs messing with her.

Aw, thanks, but unfortunately, it's not. I have to blowdry it straight and then use a curling iron with a very large barrell to get it to look like that. It's naturally just plain unruly. The hair that grows off the top of my head is wavy in a way that's inconsistent and hard to control, and then the hair that grows out lower down, closer to the nape of my neck, is pretty much ringlets of curls. When I was little I looked like frickin' Shirley Temple, but that was cute. Then random parts of my hair decided to straighten while the rest of it stayed curly. So I never know what to do w/ my hair. It usually doesn't look as good as I have it in the pictures I've shown, . My sister (who's a hairdresser) is always encouraging me to straighten it. But sometimes, if I just let it airdry, it looks good, while other times it looks like ass. It's a crapshoot.

Japanese straigtening varies in expense depending on hair length and hair type but it works really well. If not, you could always try a variation straigtening which is more temporary than the Japanese if you wanted to straighten it (but I think natural curls look very nice). < / salon talk> I chopped my hair today--somehow one inch turned into a little more than two and long layers

Thanks for the advice--despite my griping, I do like the waves, so the idea of a chemical straightening scares me a bit--also I'm not sure about it since any chemical treatment damages the hair, and I already get dyejobs so I don't want to overdo it. But thank you! :)

Oh, and I think your new 'do requires another posting! I bet it looks really good!

I know where all those places are! I grew up in Camden, TN, which is in between Nashville and Jackson. I went to college in Knoxville at UT. Now, I live in Newport. My brother married a girl from Cleveland---Katie Watson. She has an older brother, Buck. Her mom was a teacher, and her dad owned Watson's Grocery Store in Cleveland. I bet you know them. They still live there. Well, except for Katie, she and my brother live in Knoxville. That is so cool that you used to live here. I feel we have a connection other than the Mac now. :xoxo:

Very cool. I got pulled over for a speeding-ticket one time in Jackson. Had to go to court over it, and it took me an hr to find the courthouse in that town. I felt like I was in the backwoods! The judge took one look at me and said "You drove all the way from Athens to contest this?" It was about 8:30am and I said "yes sir I did, I..." he cut me off and said "get out of here and go home, boy!"

Jackson is about 45 minutes west of my hometown. I used to go there a lot. It is a nice town, but I will agree that the courthouse/downtown is hard to find. :p I'm glad that the guy let you out of that ticket after you drove all that way!

I love TN too, but I will have to agree with your small town mentality comment. I have lived in large cities in TN though, and it wasn't like that. Now, I'm back to small town mentality (because I live in a small town again), but instead of excepting it, I'm trying to change it. I always let my voice be heard when stupid stuff goes on or stupid comments are made. I don't know if it is changing anything, but at least they know not to do it around me.

Yeah battling those Tennesseans and their mindset is tough. But, I have fond memories of living there. It's a great place to have a family and shelter them from the rest of the world...but that can be a good or bad thing. Bad thing about TN is there isnt too much work there either. There are a lot of haves/have nots in that state. But for the most part there are some sweet people.

they aren't that big, but I'll tell you.

they're in photobucket, right? ok. once you're on the main page looking at all your pics, click on the one you want to resize and when that page loads there's be a series of button above the picture and one says resize. click that and a drop-down menu appears where you can select how small you want it. choose carefully cause you can't "undo" -

Tiggers are wonderful things—their tops are made out of rubber, their bottoms are made out of strings.

I had all that orthodonture, and pre-orthodonture as well, and now my mother checks to make sure I take care of my teeth, because it was an investment (an a monetary sacrifice) for her.

So I found an old picture from my Bettie Page costume:

I love that ****ing wig. I wish I had the balls to cut my hair like that, but I just don't. My camera sucks, though, so excuse the crappy lighting.

PS: Marissa is so pretty<3
It's a haunting photo, maybe because of the lighting, and you have the perfect lip-shape especially for the vintage look. I think you could look like Clara Bow, with a different wig.

Thank you so much, I love Clara as well :) I've always had a thing for the vintage vixens. They were all so classically beautiful.

any dentist will tell you you need to get it fixed. I'M telling you-a few crooked teeth adds personality  I used to work with a girl who had one little tooth protruding out. I loved it. I was SO mad at her when she got braces  sometimes "too" perfect teeth look fake. I like just a few flaws-makes the dental world go 'round.

You can get them at any age. It depends on what you need fixed as to how long you wear them, I have no idea about fixing a gap - I shouldn't imagine it would be long, unless they need to bring all your teeth forward some...

I agree with you. For instance, I have always liked Patricia Arquette's crooked smile, although my mother's teeth were like that, and then her dentist told her that the facets on her teeth were too advanced, and she got braces. One thing I regret in my orthodonture is the repair of my overbite I had. There are so many singers pronounced overbites:
Anita O'Day, Diana Ross, Dinah Shore, Freddie Mercury, Dionne Warwick (had it fixed, I think), and scores more.

My teeth were straight, but still gapped  And I've got spaces in my bottom teeth because I'm missing two (like I was born without them - they never grew in at all).

But I hated the gap so much that I had my teeth bonded. Luckily I had a nice dentist who claimed the bonding was to fix a chip...therefore insurance covered it - it wasn't a complete lie, I did have a chip in one tooth..but it was no pronounced.

I've never been happy with my teeth - but I'm also too cheap to consider cosmetic dentistry :p

^ My dentist wanted me to get braces when I was a kid. Then he said I didn't really need them, once all of my adult teeth grew in... They were pretty much optional at that point. I switched a number of years back, and now the new guy "highly recommends!" that I get 'em. I like my supposedly crowded teeth, okay? They're actually pretty nice, even if the bottom ones are a little screwed.

I'm fairly good about keeping up with my retainers now, to be honest, I'm too vain not to and like RagandBone said, it's an investment. I've also had microdermabrasion done on my front two teeth because of hyper calcification and I had some sort of procedure where they cut one of the tendons holding my front tooth while I still had my braces on so that it would grow back in the correct position.

They were going to do that tendon cutting thing on me too..and I was scared out of my mind. But it never happened - perhaps because my front teeth never moved too far to join one another.

I wish I had been more religious with my retainer..I didn't wear it, I was irresponsible and think it great that you can look at it as an investment - which it is.

you are correct. If the frenum is too short (or tight) when you talk, eat etc. It constantly pulls and causes your front teeth to separate. I'm surprised it didn't work for you :( its usually pretty successful

I know! I have always liked laterals (the ones that are next to your two front teeth) to protrude out just a little. I can't really think of anyone off of the top of my head who has that, but I think it is so cute...OH!! i just remembered-Katherine Heigl has them. They are slightly rotated (hers are almost a little much though)
http://www.ebeautydaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/08/katherine_heigl_emmys.jpg

Sometimes orthodontics is necessary for reasons other than cosmetic, so that may have been why your mother needed them. And I had a terrible overbite (that's when the top teeth cover the bottom teeth..or overlap them) but not so much an overJET (when they protrude out like freddy and diana ross, etc :) )

I'm 38 and dying to get braces to fix the gap between my front teeth. Can you get them now and only have to wear them for nine months?

You can get them at any age!!! I have an 80 year old who went through ortho recently!! There are definitely other alternatives to braces, and pm me if you want to talk more about it :) I was only in them for 9 months because I was getting married and there was no way I was going to be in braces on my wedding day  I wish I had waited though, to get them altogether. Moving your teeth that fast will allow them to move back to their original position more rapidly. Bone moves with the teeth-the slower you move the teeth, the more time the bone has to fill around the spaces where the teeth moved. If you move them quickly, it doesn't do that, and you don't really have anything keeping them from going back. Unless you wear your retainer. Problem is-if you miss one or two days (after you've moved them in a short amount of time) you're screwed  I would recommend having your dentist refer you to a good orthodontist and have an evaluation. They will be able to tell approximately how long you should expect to be in them, and I would follow their advice. Not only do your teeth move back faster, you have to go more often to have your wire changed/tightened and more PAIN!! I would think with just correcting a diastema (space) you shouldn't be in them that long though

Did you wear your retainer?? I didn't. I couldn't. That thing GAGGED me :( Don't hold me to this, but you may see the gaps start to get less noticable as time goes on. There is a thing called "mesial migration" it's basically, as you get older, your teeth tend to migrate toward the midline (forward). This bothers most people because that causes crowding, but if you have diastemas, that shouldn't be a problem. Of course what to do about now...Other than ortho again (and wearing your retainer), the only other option would be the bonding (which you did) or veneers would be a really nice option. But you said you're too cheap, so :p I personally wouldn't get veneers, just because I'm pretty happy with the SHAPE of my teeth, I just wasn't happy with their postioning. That's why I went went braces. I know I won't have to worry about replacing them every 7-10 years

You have very lovely teeth!

I forgot to mention - I may actually lose my two front teeth in a matter or years anyway - so at that point my dentist says implants are a nice way to go.

Backstory: I was six or sevenish and my adult front teeth had just grown in - and then at tee-ball practice one day they were knocked loose by a ball that someone threw at me...all I remember was lots of blood (all over my coaches shoes) and me screaming.

The dentist basically shoved the teeth back into place and stitched them in - saying I was young enough that either they'd re-root or something - OR the teeth would eventually fuse to the bone...

Neither happened apparently, and recent x-rays show that the roots are lessening....:distress:

This scares the **** out of me - I've always been über sensetive about my front teeth, and afraid of losing them - but at least I know now that there are some good dental alternatives out there....

honey you just typed up my worst nightmare. I have jumped out of bed in the middle of the night. Most the times it involves my boss being out of town and no way to fix them  I guess when I'm sleeping, i don't take into consideration that I could fix them myself (temporarily at least) so your roots are resorbing?? that is tragic, but it happens. They ARE expensive. I had to have a tooth pulled, about a year ago(root canal gone bad....the tooth broke while he was drilling, so he couldn't save it). Anyway, I got a price of $2800, for one. That was 2K for the implant, and $800 for the crown that goes on the implant. But, Cash's vet bills were such that I couldn't really afford it, so I didn't have it done(you're supposed to do it within a year, because your other teeth start growing together). At least it's towards the back, so you can't see that it's gone....

I'm in the middle of the implant process for a back tooth. Mine will be well over $3K when it's all done and none covered by insurance except pulling the bad tooth.

So far it's been a relatively painless process and I hear the actual implant procedure isn't too bad.
