Cool new music thread.

so i think it's time we have a new thread dedicated to music we're all digging. plus, it's a way for me to spread some philadelphia love. so, tell me what you're all rocking out to these days that may be underground or not totally mainstream...whether it be because they're currently unsigned or local or just totally random. i'm curious...and i want new music.

okay, for me. it's my boys from media, pa...jealousy curve.

Quote:
Initially formed as an informal recording project by high school friends Steven LaFashia and Michael Leavy, the immediate local reaction to the two friends' demos called for the formation of a proper band, with Shane Rozum and later David Sikorski joining on drums and bass. Building upon their growing following in 2004 with relentless local and regional shows, the band was simultaneously recording its work in its basement studio. January of 2005 saw the release of the band’s debut full-length album, Life as an Addict. Completely self-produced, recorded and mixed against all odds, LAAA’s 10 tracks are a testament to the band’s diehard, DIY attitude and is enjoying both domestic and international sales and exposure, in addition to regional FM attention, with great support from the band’s hometown stations WMMR 93.3, the sadly defunct Y100, 98 Rock in Baltimore and a growing number of regional college stations. Two of the album’s tracks, “The World is You” and “Appreciated”, were also licensed for use and included in the soundtrack to the direct to DVD Cruel Intentions 3 in May 2004 on Sony/Tristar, garnering legions of loyal fans who were instrumental in bolstering LAAA’s internet pre sale totals in the 3 months preceding its 1/25/05 release. To date the album has sold close to 3000 copies on word of mouth and live performances alone. The band's fall 2005 single "Don't Lie Down" was recently featured in an episode of Dane Cook's HBO series Tourgasm, and was included in the series' soundtrack, released in January '07 exposing the band to a great number of new fans.

Jealousy Curve was fortunate to be named the winner of the 2005 Zippo Hot Tour Contest, which further exposed the band to new listeners and markets as the band toured in the fall/winter of 2005 supporting The All-American Rejects, The Academy Is... and Rooney. Maintaining a rigorous live performance schedule, Jealousy Curve is fortunate to receive constant invitations for performances at the region’s best venues, having built strong relationships with both talent buyers and other regional touring bands. The band's internet following continues to grow exponentially. The band is writing new material and performing constantly, with the new this is for your own destruction ep due summer 2007.
i ordinarily wouldn't post full mp3's but i think you guys will dig so here is their song currently featured in heavy rotation on philadelphia's 93.3 wmmr and the wmmr album jaxon's local shots.

jealousy curve - black widow

also, i've done some research after seeing the new old navy commercial and i'm in love with a girl from toronto who calls herself lights. you can check out her video below...made for $500 with only two hours to shoot.

okay. your turn, kids

I was just thinking we needed a new music thread last week...it took forever for the old one to load.

NP: Jesus & Gravity | Dolly Parton

btw, I have a new music blog (pouttymouth.blogspot.com) -

ETA: I think I totally misread what this thread's about...carry on.

Okay, I need to preface this post with a disclaimer:

I HATE GREEN DAY. THEY HAVEN'T PUT OUT A GOOD RECORD SINCE 1994. I.HATE.THEM.

/disclaimer

On my way home tonight, I had the "alternative" station on in the car, and I heard this song come on, which sounded like a perfect fusion of The Buzzcocks and The Vibrators, with a hint of oldschool Green Day. I listened to it the whole way through, and could not get over how catchy and infectious this song called "Mother Mary" was. The DJ came on and announced it was a song from a band called Foxboro Hottubs. Uh, okay. So I googled them and learned that this band was supposedly a side project of the guys in Green Day. Huh. So, after feeling slightly nauseous knowing that I like a Green Day-related song, I decided to look them up on MySpace, and check out their other stuff:

http://www.myspace.com/foxborohottubs

Good ****. I'm impressed. And it takes a lot to impress me.

Also, I'm kind of on the fence about The Redwalls. I like some of the stuff on their MySpace, but other than that, I don't exactly know. They just played here in the 'Burgh a few weeks ago, but I decided not to go, since I hardly knew anything about them. Hopefully I'll remain indifferent, though, because I'd be pissed if I missed a band I ended up liking a lot. Haha.

I love the Buzzcocks so I had to take a look. You can definitely hear Green Day in there. I kind of like it, mind you I still like Green Day 'cause I loved there stuff around the mid 90s. I like this Ruby Room one a lot.

Stereophonics people. This country needs to wake up and realize how brilliant this trio from Wales really is!

YOAV! WORD! lol. l like this guy. He came out w/ a full feature album but I've yet to pick it up. Moody but delicious.
The Clicks. Not "new" anymore, but definately a great throw back to the 80's w/ a still new sound.

I'm also still in Siouxsie mode. Duh, I just came off seeing her a couple shows. That album wows me still. Took a few listens but for an "old fart" as so many critics like to call our aging favorites, she is kicking it up a major notch. (She also voiced a tune w/ a singer named Pam Hogg. She is the sh*t! I dig her, but I think her stuff is available only via her site or something.

Oh yeah, and The Downbeat 5. They played Little Steven's Garage Band Tour last year at Foxwoods. They're punk with a female singer. The drummer is a friend from my hometown. http://www.myspace.com/thedownbeat5

I’m also a bit surprised that they are not more popular in the US. They have all the ingredients to be a popular act in the US but it just isn’t happening. I tend to prefer the early albums - in particular, Performance and Cocktails. The lyrics are good, the riffs are great and Kelly Jones just sounds the real business. Since that album, everything is very accomplished and polished but I don’t quite hear the individuality/originality that struck me with the Performance and Cocktails album. Fine band and superb in concert.

I’ve been playing this a lot -

It’s by a guy called Jason Collett and is called ‘Idols of Exile’. I heard the track ‘I’ll bring the sun’ playing in a café and went out and bought it. It’s sort of a cross between Ryan Adams and Jack Johnson - if that’s possible. Interesting lyrics and a great voice, occasionally it gets a bit too melodic for me. However I like it, but I don’t know anything about him.

In my advancing years I have gone far away from commercial music, back into the metal realm which has always been my first genre choice of music:

Bullet for My Valentine "Scream Aim Fire"
Tobias Sammet's Avantasia "The Scarecrow"
Gojira "From Mars to Sirius"
Alchemist "Organasm"
Behemoth "The Apostasy"
Lizzy Borden "Appointment with Death"
