Madonna is over 25, and thus will not get radio airtime in America.

You are right.Cher and Tina Turner were very lucky to get airplay with their come backs. That was the 80's and 90's.Today .Like you said .The over 25 limit is the rule .

I'd say maybe 30ish to be generous..Kelly Clarkson is almost 30 and just had a number one pop single.Madonna however is a rode hard and put away wet 53 so it is doubtful.

I like this cd alot more than Hard Candy, which was a low I think for her. Love Spent is an amazing pop song, why wasn't this the single. Gang Bang is cool and very dark. Some of the songs don't grab me as much, but as a whole I feel it worth a listen and repeat playing. F&ck Up is such a different song and very personal. Give Me All Ur Luv I feel is not the highlight of the cd at all. It doesn't even represent the sound on the cd either.

It's staggering that Madonna has had - what - 89 singles in the course of her career, since 1984?

Here is Billboard's all-Madonna Top 40; with a video for every track. It's like getting in a time machine.

Default Great article from CNN

This made me chuckle a few times.

http://www.cnn.com/2012/04/06/opinio...nna/index.html

CNN) -- I thought she was over. Madonna, that is.

I thought she was too old to be referring to herself as a "girl." I thought pop music passed her by. I thought Lady Gaga had killed her.

And then I look at this week's Billboard chart and I see I thought wrong.

Her 12th CD, "MDNA" debuted No. 1 on the album chart and she has two singles on the dance-chart Top 10. She's 53 and the clubs are banging her new stuff, including "Give Me All Your Luvin," which became her 38th top 10 hit on the pop chart. For those of you keeping score, that's more than Elvis, more than The Beatles. I'm not saying she's better, but clearly she's done -- correction -- doing more.

This year she won another Golden Globe and her halftime performance at the Super Bowl drew more viewers than the game itself, according to Nielsen. I know the perception is that only gay men care about Madonna, but if that were true, given the 114 million viewers who tuned in to watch her at halftime, maybe "don't ask, don't tell" should have been called "just assume."

The reality is it's hard for pop music to leave behind someone who keeps leading the pack. Madonna had the highest grossing tour ever for a solo artist (2008) and has sold more than 300 million records worldwide. She's an '80s child whose 2005 single "Hung Up" holds the Guinness Book record for topping the charts in 41 countries, while 2012's MDNA was No. 1 on iTunes in 40 countries.

That's not "over," that's now.

When you look at where Madonna's career is today in the same week we learned Whitney Houston drowned in a foot of water, you're reminded that God truly does work in mysterious ways. The two pop icons released debut albums within two years of each other, Madonna in 1983 and Houston in 1985.

Of course, Houston was the former model with a voice for the ages, while Madonna was the thin-voiced tart rolling around on the floor of the MTV music awards in a wedding dress proclaiming that she felt like a virgin. If anyone might have been expected to meet a desperate, tragic end, back then the safe money would have been on Madonna. And yet Houston's gone, Michael Jackson's gone, Prince is semi-retired and everyone else, with the exception of U2, is making their money off nostalgia.

Meanwhile, Madonna has methodically become, arguably, the greatest recording artist of all time. Who would've thunk it?

As for the music, her latest CD is not breaking any new ground, but it does remind everyone who owns the ground Gaga, Rihanna, Beyonce and others are walking on. In fact, each time they receive a royalty check, they should be sending Madonna a cut.

While MDNA is about three songs too long for my taste, I will tell you the first five songs make it very difficult not to want to dance, and that the track "Gang Bang" is pure genius. As you could probably figure out from the title, it's not radio friendly, but likely not because of what you may think. And that, in a nutshell, is why Madonna is who she is.

You can tell you're watching a Woody Allen film with the first five minutes of dialogue. You can identify the beautiful prose of Toni Morrison within a couple of pages. But my 15-year-old came home one day and asked who I was listening to. I told him Madonna and my son, who loves techno and hip hop, thought I was joking.

"Seriously... like your Madonna?" he asked.

"Yep," I said.

"Well, she's still old but that song's not."

The song was "Gang Bang" and I'm glad he left the room before she started singing. As I said, it's not radio friendly. But then again, it wouldn't be Madonna if a song like that was.

Exclusive: Madonna "MDNA" Will Have Biggest Second Week Drop in Chart History

http://www.forbes.com/sites/rogerfri...chart-history/

Madonna‘s “MDNA” album had the biggest second week drop in chart history last week, I am told. When all the numbers are in on Tuesday night, “MDNA” will have fallen from number 1 by 88%–from 359,000 copies in its first week to roughly 46,000 the second week. Wow. The first week’s sales, as I revealed exclusively (and then the New York Post lifted it from us), most of Madonna’s first week sales were CDs that were included in the sale of concert tickets. That promotion artificially inflated Madonna’s numbers, putting her first before Lionel Richie and his “Tuskegee” album. In the second week, Richie fell only 47% and sold about 110,000 albums–which is normal. “Tuskegee” will now finish much higher than “MDNA.” I do think that all the people involved in the Madonna ticket-CD deal should apologize to Richie for denying him his rightful place at number 1, starting with Billboard and SoundScan. But Richie’s consolation is that he has a major hit, while “MDNA” is a total dud. So far, “MDNA” has not produced anything like a hit single either, no radio play or anything to provide organic promotion. But Madonna’s concert tour with Live Nation will be a big hit, so it’s not like we have to worry about her financial situation.

It's a shame she won't promote it and is concentrating on the tour. (obviously the tour will be huge) but this album is brilliant it needs the recognition it deserves but Guy Oseary said they are trying something different promotion wise. Well Guy it's not working so get your arse in gear. rant.over.

Admittedly Madonna's album practically promoted itself without any actual participation from Madonna herself. All of the major print and online news media posted reviews. Her album was marketed heavily online on flash sale websites at hefty discounts. She's launched the Truth or Dare fragrance with the commercials playing music from the new album, the Schmirnoff commercials (yeah, as if Madge has ever drunken that cheap-ass vodka) are everywhere, plus there was the concert ticket promotion. Her new album was pretty much unavoidable except when it came to radio. Ironically, broadcast radio is a dying medium, yet, Madonna's catchiest new song, "Turn up the Radio," is like a rallying cry for them. Alas, radio has this strange aversion to Madonna for some reason...

I agree that the album has kind of promoted itself but she needs to get out there do some interviews (not just in America) The UK has always been one of her strongest audiences but we have nothing. Masterpiece is getting a lot of air play but they aren't releasing it as a single. It doesn't help that the singles (physical copy) are being released months after the mp3, a lot of her fans are collectors who like to buy the stuff just to add to their Madonna collection. Although the UK is getting GGW as a picture disk sometime this month (date keeps changing) so maybe they are upping their game.I think they have gone about this all wrong tbh. We had a few adverts on TV and an appearance on Graham Norton months ago to promote W.E but that is all. Fans seem to be trying to promote it more than them which is stupid. And yes the radio do seem to have some kind of problem with her (apart from masterpiece I have heard nothing on the radio at all)

Well, clearly saturating the press and making appearances are no guarantee of success. Look at Adele. Her 21 album is the the modern-day equivalent of Rumours in terms of commercial success in America. Astronomical success. And she managed to do with it with minimal U.S. television exposure, minimal press and only a brief tour of theatres. She does not play to "the streets," doesn't do slick dance moves or wear outrageous outfits. Although she is still very young, she reads as a much older woman due to her sophisticated styling and her big voice. And most obviously, her physical size puts her at a huge (so-to-speak) disadvantage in terms of her marketability. She seems like a very sweet girl but she's not exactly going to be a Mensa member anytime soon. So what could it be about Adele? Beats me. But I suspect it has something to do with the fact that she presents herself as the antithesis of everything else going on around her; she paved her own separate lane. Maybe that's why Madonna is not succeeding despite all of the marketing efforts; she's caught up in a traffic jam with Britney and Katy.

Speaking of marketing, who was the genius behind Lionel Ritchie's comeback? And how can we hook him up with Stevie? Seriously. Lionel Ritchie was beyond washed up for the longest time. Now all of the sudden he is at the top of the charts again despite the fact that he is well into his 60s. With a country album, no less. Does this mean any artist over the age of 60 has to record country music in order to become commercially successful?

I think Guy Oseary needs to get his sh*t together. Like I said though I think they are more concentrated on tour which is probably going to be one of her best..well hopefully anyway. TBH MDNA is a sucess but measured up against her other work it's not done as well. BUT part of me is kind of glad it is just a great album and far far superior to Hard Candy (Madonna what was you thinking with that album?)

LOL!!! I know I was wondering where he had come from again. He had a TV special over here the other day.
I think Stevie needs to get on the road but outside of America there is calling for her but she just doesn't see it. It baffles me, it really does.

I just think a Stevie duets album is inevitable. I just don't understand why she didn't do one sooner. I'm not too crazy about the idea, but it's a guaranteed formula for success, e.g., Lionel Richie, Carlos Santana, Tony Bennett, etc.
