Not sure about tonight.

Last night, I polished off a bag of Sun Chips, a half-pint of Ben & Jerry's Half Baked, and a bad of Chex Mix. OH, and then I felt guilty so I ate a salad. Speaking of veggies, I wish the temps would cool down and give my garden a reprieve from the windy heat.

My boyfriend is out of town for work and so dinner hasn't been much of a priority.

A peanut butter sandwich with the crusts cut off and a low-sugar fudgesicle. Braces still suck.

I have always liked bread crust, and have never understood why people cut em off.

I don't like them, but I'm cheap, and don't like wasting food, so I eat them. Now, if I won the lottery, well, I'd still be cheap, so I'd probably still eat them.

Because I can't chew them right now! That's how bad it is.

A few kinds of beets (golden, Chioggia and red), a carrot and radish mix...herbs, and yellow & purple beans, tomatoes, a few kinds of peppers, three different cucumbers...and peas. I have squash plants to go in the ground as well, but I don't know where they're going. yet. But I'll make a space. Oh, and I'm growing okra as well.

I'm going to plant some greens in the fall; I missed the early spring season because of moving.

Last night I made creole style crab cakes drizzled with a garlic/lemon/butter/spicy mustard sauce; sauteed asparagus & wild rice. It was yummy, but a lot of work. I took tonight off from cooking!

Sounds delightful. All such yummy choices. I have only herbs this year.

Thanks! Herbs are great, each plant is so different and fun to use.

This is pretty much how I did mine:

http://www.bhg.com/recipe/seafood/creole-crab-cakes/

And if you don't wanna do all that, grocery stores like Earth Fare have some really amazing pre made crab & crawfish cakes in their fresh seafood sections.

I just kinda winged the sauce I drizzled on them: I melted butter in a bowl, added fresh chopped garlic, squeezed some fresh lemon in, added spicy brown mustard, a little bit of olive oil to bind it all together, and then I used a wisk to make it the right consistency. It really could have used a bit more complexity of flavor, I need to figure out what else to throw into it. The sauce tends to separate by the way, so don't make it until you're about to serve the crab cakes.

As far as rice (be it wild, white, brown, etc), I always cook it in some form of broth vs water. Makes for much better flavor.

Asparagus is easy: just throw some butter, olive oil, garlic, and whatever other flavors you want in a pan & saute. Oh, and I always cut the bottom inch or so off my asparagus stalks: you know, the tough/fibrous/white part on the bottom. They seem to be more tender & soak up flavor better that way

I actually really wanted to make crawfish cakes last night, those are my true favorite. But I couldn't find crawfish at the 4 grocery stores I went to yesterday. It's weird, crawfish was easy to find in Charlotte... but I struck out trying to find it in Austin yesterday. And we're much closer to Louisiana & the Gulf here!

Wow! I'm impressed - That's a lot. I have six, which is a lot for me.
