Agreed. We are all in glass houses, here. I haven't read so much as a sentence of the Twilight books, but I'll put money on the probability that they are really, really strong on story. And story is so powerful that it can overcome almost any limitation in style.

For example, when I read The Da Vinci Code, it was mainly because I couldn't stand not actually knowing what it was that I was heaping disapproval on, but lo! When I started reading it, I hated the writing but I had to finish it because I was hooked on the story. There's no shame in that, and I think Stevie Nicks has always been able to spot a narrative hook.

Even still, a little of the immoral can be just as fun haha. Anybody who thumbed through my book collection would probably make a few harsh judgements of their own, especially when they come across my deep love for Sylvia Plath and Byron lol.

Ahhhh...dear Sylvia.......love her and Anne Sexton. Both of them heavily influenced my poetry writing.

Yeah, she called it the garage second - cracked me up. I know we can hardly ever be nit picky with her but it's still fun... She would hate me - I would correct her all the time. lol

Interesting that Stevie said that the movie people will know that she's written a story inspired by the Twilight series. Makes you wonder if there's some collaboration cooking. I know there have been hopes and rumors along those lines, but nothing concrete.

I've read the Twilight books. The books aren't great, but they're a lot better than the movies. What I found most engrossing was not the forbidden love aspect, but the unconditional part of it. However, for me the romance was marred by the fact that it was a triangle. There can be a third party in a relationship (i.e. Wuthering Heights), but only if it's clear that the feeling for the third party doesn't rival the "great" love shared by the hero and heroine. In the Twilight series, Bella's feelings for Jacob seemed just a shade less passionate than those she had for Edward and Edward was selfless to the point of being willing to share her with Jacob, if that's what she wanted.

That kind of undermined the whole thing for me. But I can't write it off as just a badly written Harlequin romance that meant nothing to me, because I have very strong criticisms about Eclipse, to the point where I felt reflexive dismay when Stevie said it was a great book. An involuntary gasp of disappointment escaped from my lips upon reading that sentence. So . . . whatever talent she lacks, Stephenie Meyer did get under my skin. I can't deny that.

As far as liking the performers who portrayed the characters. . . THEY CAN'T ACT. There's nothing to like and I don't think any of the three are physically attractive.

I hate she bashes True Blood, and says the show has no romance. That's patently untrue... Bill & Sookie have a grand romance which very much fits the same parameters of Edward & Bella on Twilight. There's a whole forbidden thing with a human being involved with a vampire, the vampire protecting the human from all the craziness of the supernatural, etc.

I'm more disturbed that Stevie doesn't seem to notice how pathetic Bella is. The character is simply unable to function without a man. I think these books are terrible for young girls, and I don't understand how any adult can like them. That said, I still really like the song Moonlight, much to my chagrin!

I'm a big fan of True Blood. Both the show and the books. I agree with you Louie (although I prefer Eric and Sookie).

Yeah, and these kids are very injured, and the last thing they're going to be able to do is download music, and almost every single one of them had an iPod that got blown up in Iraq or Afghanistan. So I put everything on it...

That is such bizzare, wacky statement/thought! But I don't expect anything less from her. Stevie's reality and her way of thinking are uniquely hers. Oh the tragedy of one's own iPod!

I teach seventh grade and lived through Twilight mania. For the record, I am willing to support just about anything that will get my kids to read a series of big, fat books. Yes, they're trite and Bella kind of sucks, but those books are right up a twelve-year-old's alley. As an adult, I think vamp-lite is terrible and the last book was *literally* the worst book I've ever read. Eclipse was decent. But consider the audience...

They really are terrible, but I swear they must be laced with crack, because while I was reading them, I couldn't put them down. After, I couldn't believe I didn't see the true lameness right away. I was on drugs at the time, though.
