I think the point about the single is figuring out what would have the widest possible appeal and provide the widest exposure. I see the logic behind "In Your Dreams" as that kind of track moreso than "Secret Love"--which of course does not account for which song is better but does account for what audience might be alienated by choosing IYD over SL.

But also the simple fact is that older artists do not get the promotion nor the buzz that younger artists (have) generate(ed for them). Example: I defy anyone to name a finer work of pop(art) in the 00s than the Pet Shop Boys 2009 Yes album, but that got 0 radio play in ENGLAND much less the US. And they are a national treasure in England. And the album was pure radio-ready bliss from beginning to penultimate track (the final track was a MAGNFICENT but not a radio-type song).

I think I agree with those who have said that almost any track from IYD could play well on the radio (in that sense, this really is Stevie's Rumours)--and many invite innovative music video concepts (though not directed by Dave Stewart, lordhelpusall). However, that won't happen: I'm not sure if it's because the artist doesn't have youth appeal or because of the industry's arbitrary--self-congratulatory--promotional dictates (Plant-and-Krauss is not about art but is about pure commercial calcuation, while Stevie-and-Dave is, ultimately, genuinely, about art).

Imagine paying $1000 to hear "Don't Dream It's Over" instead of "Go Your Own Way"

Fleetwood Mac helped me through a time of heartbreak. 12 years later, they broke my heart.
