Default IYD TV Commercial?

I was on the updated Warner Brothers SN page today, and played the IYD preview video. Just before the video started there was a like 20 second commercial that looked like a TV ad showing star ratings from critics, etc. I went back to look at it again, but it was gone. I couldn't get it to work again and the stream went straight into the two minute preview. I'm guessing there will be TV ads soon.

Good. She is geating mostly really good reviews, except by people who want her back with the mac or hold up TISL for some reason.

It didn't though. Trouble In Shangri-La came out to very positive reviews. It only started taking a hit on whether its a "good album" when it became apparent that it wouldn't go Platinum, which as I've argued before has more to do with people re-assessing an album because of reacting to sales than the album itself.

You're forgetting about The Dance and how after The Dance everyone was singing Nicks praises. People were looking forward to this album because of The Dance and Sheryl Crow, and Courtney Love... RS gave TISL 3.5 only because of that. And many reviewers did NOT follow suit. If there had been no Dance, that album would of been panned.

And it got terrible word of mouth. I remember it well, because eventhough I didn't like the album, I tried to get others to and they did and didn't like it.

The album wasn't a total miss for me. It was a step up from some of the god-awful previous albums. This album is the real deal.

That ad plays before her videos on her youtube channel as well.

But you're confusing your own opinion with The Way Things Are. It's fine if you don't personally like the album and it doesn't work for you, but you're projecting that out by insisting the album was a failure when it wasn't.

Like "RS gave TISL 3.5 stars only because of The Dance". You have no basis for this assertion at all other than your own opinion. There's absolutely no proof of this being the case. The album may have *sold* better initially because of The Dance, but then again The Dance was 1997 and TISL was 2001 so even that assertion is arguable.

"Many reviewers did NOT follow suit". This is flat-out false when you look at the Metacritic reviews. In fact, TISL was the first Nicks album since Bella Donna that *didn't* get absolutely panned somewhere. The Metacritic reviews show a mix of glowing reviews and average reviews, which is a step up from some of the scathing reviews some of the earlier albums had received.

Your recollection of word of mouth is again based on your own personal experience. My recollection was that the word of mouth on The Ledge was that this was an exceptional album, that critically it was very well-received, and that many people were singing the albums praises. This was a much different vibe from previous Nicks releases (Rock A Little and The Other Side of the Mirror) that definitely got some criticism heaped on them.

It's only since coming here to the Ledge two years ago that I ever heard any of this hatred for Trouble In Shangri-la. Out in the Real World of Stevie Fans, TISL has always been well-praised and appreciated.

ONLY on The Ledge is this wonderful album so slammed. The Ledge is already turning on In Your Dreams... Big surprise.

It does seem like there's a heightened sense of criticism on here. Like if an album isn't absolutely perfect then it must be awful. It's a high level of demand on the artist.

It's all a matter of opinions and some music is going to really work for some people and really not work for others. I don't have an issue with that, but I do have an issue when people start confusing their own opinion on something with "absolute truth". I think you have to realize that while you have your opinion there is also a way to objectively scale things too: chart positions, sales, number and success of singles, critical reviews.

Example: This doesn't mean that you have to love Bella Donna cuz it hit #1. You can still hate it. But you have to realize that although you may hate it, many other people obviously didn't, and therefore it was a successful album even if it doesn't work for you personally.

Point 1: TISL came four years AFTER The Dance, and with a boxsett in between. They hype had died down by then.
Point 2: RS gave IYD 3.5 starts out of 5 and yet you're singing the praises of IYD...this would make RS wrong, yes? So what's to say they were RIGHT in 2001?
Point 3: Terrible word of mouth? By you, maybe! All my close Stevie-fan friends love it and always have.
Point 4: You seem to be forgetting that your opinion is not FACT. There are many people on here who love TISL and always have, your opinion is not going to change that.

There is not a thread goes by these days that I do not see a single thread go by without SOMEONE turning a perfectly reasonable discussion into a TISL bashing session. Voice your opinion by all means, but don't shove it down people's throats as fact.
