Oh tell me about it. When I saw the full title of the song I kind of thought "Really....?" , but I can look past the lame title because I think it turned out amazing!

Me too. I think this is the best her voice has been in a long long time.

I'm one of those people who isn't a big fan of this disc, so....

Songs I Like

Secret Love
For What It's Worth
In Your Dreams (I don't like the verses but the chorus is very catchy and the song is chorus-heavy, so I'm kind of liking it more and more)
Annabel Lee

Songs I Kind of Like
Wide Sargasso Sea
Ghosts Are Gone

Songs I'm Indifferent To
Moonlight

Songs I Have Issues With
New Orleans (if seeing a little kid saying "Why don't you help us?" inspired this song, then how can she write lyrics that totally ignore how the federal government delayed for sooo long to even begin to help those poor people? )

Soldier's Angel (I get that she is trying to help alleviate the suffering of soldiers, but to me it seems like completely ignoring the suffering of all the non-military people involved in this war, including Iraqis, is either naive or insensitive, and the lyric calling the war righteous really pisses me off. Musically I really really like this song and I would be able to get past it if not for that one line.)

Songs I Don't Like
My Heart (boring pop schlock)
Everybody Loves You (boring pop schlock part 2...I can hear Annie Lennox singing this and maybe making it slightly less boring)
You May Be the One (this reminds me of Somebody Stand By Me, which I can't listen to)
Italian Summer (I was really looking forward to this song, but it's just boring. The melody of the verse is very monotone and I don't like the background vocals at all)
Cheaper Than Free (Stevie belittles Lindsey for asking her to be consistent in what person she uses in a song, she tells him that no one every criticized Bob Dylan's lyrics, and then she writes this. )

Anyway, I'm listening to it a lot, hoping it will grow on me. But even if it doesn't, at least there are a few new Stevie songs to listen to

Kevin

I'm not overly thrilled with Dave Stewart's production. I feel like the vocals are too loud and so is the lead guitar and in a way where they stand out in their own space far too much, feeling distant from the rest of the band. My track list pretty much highlights the songs where that isn't the case. I also think the songs where Stevie wrote her own music end up being the strongest in all cases except Italian Summer. Italian Summer's production is yummy. I'm a sucker for strings.

Secret Love is a known quantity. It's a pop song. it's well produced, sounds like it should have been on TISL. It sound like nothing else on the album, which is a bummer.

Soldier's Angel I have the most to comment on. As much as I want to love Soldier's Angel, and I think as a poem, it's a beautiful piece with a great message, musically I think it sounds like a half-done demo, and the meter really should have been edited from the poem to fit more into song structure, rather than sounding forced into parts of the song. If I could get ahold of the raw tracks for this I'd show you how I'd love it

My top 5 in order are:
Secret Love
Italian Summer
Moonlight
Annabel Lee
For What It's Worth

Not a fan of:
Ghost are Gone
In Your Dreams
You May Be The One

Finally got around to ranking these--I'd been waiting for My Heart. Used 30 Rock quotes to describe my true feelings.

Tier 1: "Just like a bird, like a friendly bird that embraces all ideas and shoots out of its eyes all kinds of beauty" (Life-changing levels of greatness)
Moonlight
My Heart
Wide Sargasso Sea
For What it's Worth

Tier 2: "I want to take it behind a middle school and get it pregnant." (Love these)
Italian Summer
In Your Dreams
You May Be the One
Soldier's Angel
New Orleans

Tier 3: "Always smiles-time" (Like them a lot, some nitpicks)
Everybody Loves You--great verses, not a fan of the opening notes or the word "caahn't"
Cheaper Than Free
Ghosts are Gone

Tier 4: "It's like an owl without a graduation cap" (Off, somehow. Do nothing for me)
Annabel Lee
Secret Love--UO, but I would cut this from the album entirely and move the title track to the opening.

Default The Stevie Nicks Ranking Thread

Now that we have IYD...rate all of Stevie's solo albums in order of favorite to least favorite

01 RAL (tons of memories with this LP....to me her best achievement so far)
02 Bella Donna (simply classic...with only one song I skip)
03 IYD (11 brilliant songs and 3 duds...her vocals are excellent here)
04 TISL (3 bad songs on the LP...the rest is fantastic..."Planets" is still one of my all time favorite tracks by her)
05 Wild Heart (Spotty...some duds...)
06 Street Angel (not as bad as some say...some great material here)
07 TOSOTM (rarely listen to this one...overproduced)

So you're calling out duds on other albums and putting up Rock A Little as flawless.. um okay

I think the chorus evades me as though it doesn't exist when I listen, and the one note melody that begins the verses doesn't really agree with me either. I do like the guitar riff and the overall production has a very nice early to mid-70's folk/rock sound, which is probably the reason why I want to like this one so much.
I like it, but does sound rushed at times in the verses, and her vocal on the chorus is a bit too deep for my taste.

Yes!

Tier 1 - Contenders for the Pantheon
Annabel Lee
Moonlight (A Vampire's Dream)
Everybody Loves You

Tier 2 - Superb! Scratching at the Pantheon's Door
Soldier's Angel
You May Be The One

Tier 3 - Getting Better with Each Listen, scratching at the door of "Superb"
In Your Dreams
Ghosts Are Gone -- Biggest climber. I've dubbed it a "white-trash version of my favorite Kate Bush track: 'Get Out of My House'"
Italian Summer

Tier 4 - Pretty!
For What It's Worth
Secret Love

Tier 5 - Mercilessly Cut for a Perfect 10-track Album
Wide Sargasso Sea
New Orleans
Cheaper Than Free

Imagine paying $1000 to hear "Don't Dream It's Over" instead of "Go Your Own Way"

Fleetwood Mac helped me through a time of heartbreak. 12 years later, they broke my heart.
